I don't post wips enough anymore here's something of Viv and Vex, deciding if I want to put thier pony clothes on them or not . I feel like the coats look wacky in this one and I mean. What's a little bit of unsafe practices in the office (not like they gaf /lh)

Also I love seeing the comparisons between my original first sketch to get the idea down and my second "ok time to try and make this make sense" I draw faces alot better quickly than I do bodies and thats interesting to see I think !

I wanted to post a bit about my process while drawing, so here we go!
1.Okay, so I begin with a basic sketch - that the stick figure you can see in the background of the drawing - and then draw the basic shapes of the drawing out
Tumblr media
As you see, those don’t fit exactly over the first sketch anymore, because usually that first sketch is just to get a first idea of the drawing with no regards to proportions and such.
However, the proportions of this second sketch are still pretty skewed, (except for the hands in this case, because I didn’t take a screenshot of the first draft of them and I usually work pretty detailed on hands)
For example look at the right elbow: it’s too short and too much of a straight line, and also it points in the wrong direction. Also the arm is too short and too thin.
But since this is only the base sketch, that’s fine.
2. Next step is sketching out the *actual* drawing - those will be the outlines I’ll use as a guide for coloring.
Tumblr media
As you see, I’ve fixed the right arm and elbow and now it already looks A LOT better than before. I also added details on the hands, like fingernails and folds, and drew out the body.
In this stage im trying to keep the lines as clean as possible, because they might already be good enough as a base for coloring. For example, the familiar (that’s the winged snake) is already good, after I’ve fixed the wing span and actually drew the feathers, and because I’ve kept my lines clear I don’t have to draw over it again.
However: while the familiar and the arms and shoulders are pretty much done already, I noticed that the torso and legs not only have quite wrong proportions, but also look very stiff and kind of ruin the flow of the drawing and make it look awkward and unnatural.
So instead of erasing them and making the drawing just a bust, I fixed them in ..
..Step 4:
Tumblr media
Looks a lot more natural, doesn’t it?
I’ve shortened the upper body, as well as widened the lower half of it, and put in a slight movement to compliment how the other elements of the drawing all show bows that go to the lower left corner. I also moved the legs so it looks more like she’s actually standing instead of being suspended mid air like some kind of doll.
I also changed the neck a bit to follow that flow more :)
Here next to eachother for a better comparison:

You can see that the second one looks way more natural and dynamic
Then step 5.: I add the head shape and the hair
Tumblr media
And step 6:
Adding clothes and guidelines for facial features (here the circles for eyes and brows where the eyeholes in the skull would be, and a line for the mouth - as you see the ends of the mouth can be found by drawing a line through the middle of each eyehole vertically and connecting them. The horizontal lines are for the eye placement ).
Tumblr media
And of course the flames :)
And this is where I’m at now, I’m gonna update this short tutorial as I finish the drawing !
