Have you seen Return to the Bunker? it's a Gravity Falls fan episode by Keyan Carlile and it was posted to youtube today. the voice acting is spot on and it feels like watching an actual episode

I did not enjoy Return to the Bunker, personally, and had a lot of issues with the writing and characterizations of the main cast, so I don't think I appreciate it in the same way a lot of other fans seem to love it. Certain scenes bothered me, a lot of the jokes fell flat, a lot of the actions taken by characters felt out of character or even completely contradictory to what we've seen in the series. The script just had so many issues, and I suspect it was written by someone who has a completely different interpretation of this series than I do, or even dislikes many of the main characters. Still, we all connect to media in different ways, and I am not trying to sour your appreciation for this fan project.

Still, I thought the VA work and the storyboarding was actually really solid. My issues were with the script, but the voice actors and artists did a wonderful job and I can tell a lot of love went into the project.

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again

this is just my opinion but i think any good media needs obsession behind it. it needs passion, the kind of passion that's no longer "gentle scented candle" and is now "oh shit the house caught on fire". it needs a creator that's biting the floorboards and gnawing the story off their skin. creators are supposed to be wild animals. they are supposed to want to tell a story with the ferocity of eating a good stone fruit while standing over the sink. the same protective, strange instinct as being 7 and making mud potions in pink teacups: you gotta get weird with it.

good media needs unhinged, googling-at-midnight kind of energy. it needs "what kind of seams are invented on this planet" energy and "im just gonna trust the audience to roll with me about this" energy. it needs one person (at least) screaming into the void with so much drive and energy that it forces the story to be real.

sometimes people are baffled when fanfic has some stunning jaw-dropping tattoo-it-on-you lines. and i'm like - well, i don't go here, but that makes sense to me. of fucking course people who have this amount of passion are going to create something good. they moved from a place of genuine love and enjoyment.

so yeah, duh! saturday cartoons have banger lines. random street art is sometimes the most precious heart-wrenching shit you've ever seen. someone singing on tiktok ends up creating your next favorite song. youtubers are giving us 5 hours of carefully researched content. all of this is the impossible equation to latestage capitalism. like, you can't force something to be good. AI cannot make it good. no amount of focus-group testing or market research. what makes a story worth listening to is that someone cares so much about telling it - through dance, art, music, whatever it takes - that they are just a little unhinged about it.

one time my friend told me he stayed up all night researching how many ways there are to peel an orange. he wrote me a poem that made me cry on public transportation. the love came through it like pith, you know? the words all came apart in my hands. it tasted like breakfast.

Trans men, you have the right to be "scary": to be intimidating, imposing, loud, and angry. It is not a crime or a sin to be any of these things. It does not make you an inherently unsafe or predatory person. You did not lose your right to be loud and angry upon transitioning. Trans men of color, especially, you are allowed to be any and all of these things. People who insist you must be demure and polite, to not frighten people, are racist and transphobic.

People in general are allowed to be "scary". People are allowed to exist and be interpreted by others as intimidating or imposing. Being interpreted this way does not mean you should lose your right to be speak loudly and angrily. Being interpreted this way does not mean you are a danger to women or to other people in general.

The assumptions that people choose to make about you based on your appearance are just that - assumptions. They are prejudice, and biased. The idea that you must make yourself presentable and civil is white supremacist, hegemonic bullshit. Anyone who touts this idea or it's derivatives is upholding hegemonic values.

You are allowed to just be, no matter how others view you.

The Survivor (Their full, scavenger-given name includes the 'The') was separated from their family while traveling between colonies and stranded in the dangerous unpopulated wilds. Against all odds they managed to survive (and wander) far longer than they should have been able, but rather than reconnecting with their (or another) slugcat family, they instead made contact with one of the many wandering scavenger troops- But unfortunately not one that had ever met a slugcat nor had any idea what to make of a stranded one. Regardless the group gave it their best, ended up committing to the role of slugparents, and The Survivor and their troop still consider themselves close family long after Survivor finally reconnected with their sibling. (They're a bit of a mess though, understandably)
