Lupin Week 2024 Day 4: AUs and Mythology

Goemon's face looks like he's seen a ghost.

ahhhh god ok my stupid stupid silly au i made a year ago.... this will be a bit long so get ready

tldr: lupin died, the gang is alive. goemon finds lupin but he's a shark merman!? and lupin remembers nothing!!!

long version:

so this AU follows upon the story of shin lupin, which basically, the gang gets killed off by zenigata because he rigged an island full of explosives.

instead of them all dying however, lupin decides to knock the gang unconscious and find a way for them to escape off the island safely, leaving only him in the island to die.

the rest of the gang had no idea how they escaped and assumed that lupin had sacrificed himself for them. they woke up adrifted on the ocean until they eventually got picked up by a ship where the invisible captain from new adventures returns. but ah ill spare the details for another day

2 years have passed and the gang just kinda separated to do their own thing. we'll only focus on goemon cuz he's the featured character of this comic.

goemon decided to escape the life of crime that has burdened him for years living as a part of the lupgang. he's mostly a wanderer now and tries to do good and help people along the way

funnily enough, goemon is not the first person to find lupin, but I'll talk about this later. but goemon is definitely very mixed about seeing his friend who he thought was dead for years. he doesn't know whether to be happy or worried.

lupin, at the brink of death after the explosion, plummets down the ocean and wakes up one day, feeling like he's been rebirthed!

essentially, lupin became a merman because right before he could die, his body (i mean what's left of it 💀) interacted with a magic crystal that has the ability to grant life to a living being.

It's really rare, but it exists in clusters deep in the ocean floor or- deep under the rocks of an island :) you can say im bullshitting, which i am but i dont think exploding an entire island down to every rock has happened before, so it can kinda make sense why something so coincidental about these crystals could happen. (I AM TOTALLY MAKING EXCUSES I JUST WANTED TO MAKE LUPIN A MERMAN.)

and so these crystals used whats left of lupins body and reassembled him back, and idk other essences of the ocean to make him a merman!

the memories of his past life have definitely been buried deep inside his brain to the point he can't remember any of it though, so he thinks that he was born under the ocean and has lived there for his entire life. other than that he retains almost everything about himself, down to stealing stupid shit and messing with humans just for the fucks of it. he's kinda seen as like a nessie.

living a life with only fishes around means lupin's kinda lonely and likes to stalk humans sometimes. the interaction with him and zenigata did not end well though, and lupin has no idea why zeni wants him dead so much.

after that he's way more cautious around people that look like zenigata- hatted big men with guns. its gonna be fun once he sees jigen.

It's been two weeks. He's been home for two weeks. You know your boyfriend was - is - busy. You knew that. From the various shows and performances, to practice and him living in his studio, you knew you weren't going to see him often.

But two weeks?

A few messages have been exchanged, but no real conversation, no meaningful conversation and you missed him. He knows you did, you tell him everyday.

'Does he not miss me?' Your mind wandered, spiraled with thoughts. He forgot about you. Or maybe he didn't love you anymore. Why would he, he's just going to keep getting famous and forget about you, right?

No. You couldn't allow this. You shouldn't think like that, not about him.

Sliding off your couch you turned off the tv and grabbed your coat, phone and wallet. You were going to see him and tell him to his face. You left your apartment and headed down to your local 7/11. After grabbing a few beers and a couple snacks, you headed towards his studio.

You arrived 20 minutes later, walking up to the studio door, knocking on the door. The soundproofing of the room didn't help, was he not here? You grabbed the knob to check and felt the rattle of a locked door, he was here alright.

You pulled out your phone and sent Hongjoong a text. Not even a second later the door swung open.

"My love, what are you doing here? Come in, come in." He grabbed your hand, took the bag from it and pulled you inside. After leading you to the spare chair and setting the bag on the desk, Hongjoong closed the door and sat down next to you.

"What brings you here?" He asked, excited to see you, but confused by your presence.

You scanned the room and realized that he's practically been living here. Honesty, him cheating would've felt better. At least it was an excuse. Your feelings aroused quickly as you begin to cry.

Hongjoong quickly got up and grabbed some tissue. He knelt down in front of you and grabbed your hands. "My love what's wrong? Why are you crying?"

"Because-" You choked out, trying to keep your composure. "You've been back for two weeks and have seen me. I've missed you so much, but you didn't. You don't love me anymore. You-"

Hongjoong pulled you into his arms, cutting you off,and rubbed your back. "I am so sorry, y/n. I didn't mean to leave you alone for so long. I meant to visit, but then a song came and- I'm sorry. I do love you, I still do, that hasn't changed."

"I've missed you so much Joong. You're not gonna have time for me anymore. You're just going to become more famous and-"

"I always have time for you. I will ALWAYS have time for you my love." He took your face into his hands and wiped your tears from your check. "Should I dedicate a day to you?"

You nodded your head but started to shake your head no. "You don't have to, you're busy enough." It was too late, he grabbed his phone and opened his calendar, deciding Wednesday evenings are for you, blocking it off every week.

"There, see. No matter what I'm doing that day, I'm coming to see you or inviting you over."

"But-"

"No buts. You deserve my attention, I'm giving it to you." He kissed the top of your head. "If you have to yell at me to get it, do it."

"I'm not going to yell." You laughed at his conviction, but were happy. He really did love you. "I love you Joong."

Your family was in trouble.

Your family business was doing well, until one day it all fell down. Your family was in debt. In a last ditch attempt to save your family business, your father borrowed a loan from the Northland Bank.

Unfortunately, things didn't work out and your family debt was even larger now.

However one day you and your mom were eating dinner in the kitchen table when your dad came in with a letter in his hand.

It read :

"I see that you are in huge debt after borrowing money from the Northland Bank. I'm here to offer you a deal; come to Zapolarny Palace at 7:00 for a match of chess. If you win, your debt will be paid back."

It was too good to be true. That's what you were thinking when you read the letter that your father handed you. Why would someone pay back your debt without wanting something in return.

"The letter has a fatui symbol on it" Your father murmered, "it wouldn't be a wise idea not to show up"

And that's how you got here. Inside Zapolarny Palace being escorted by a fatui agent who lead you into a room.

A fatui harbinger greeted your father

In the middle the long and empty quiet room was your father and the 1st fatui harbinger going by the name of "Pierro".

The air in the room felt intense as you had sat down on the chair and watched the chess match between the both of them.

You could hear the snowstorm howling outside as you tried to focus on the match. You were getting nervous and scared. All sorts of thoughts were running through your mind such as "what would happen if your father lost" and "what will happen to our family now if your father didn't win".

"You never told us what would happen if we lost" You said voicing out your thoughts.

You almost fell out of your chair as Pierro gruff voice boomed through the room.

"You'll see what happens my dear."

You gave him a horrified look.

"Hmm cute" Pierro thought as the both of them continued on with the match.

Pierro's face looked calm and his gaze was cold while your father was trying to keep it cool. You could tell he was nervous.

You noticed the move your father made but then you realized something wasn't right. Pierro was a fatui harbinger. The strongest one in fact and the leader of all of them. He couldn't lose that easily right?..

You prayed that your thoughts were wrong. You prayed that your father would win the match so all of your debts could be paid. Ywere so nervous that you closed your eyes in anticipation. In your head you counted to 10 to 1.
