hey trans red guy enjoyers here is a fun fact: red guy is technically canonically trans. im fully /srs. i call this the “otis from barnyard effect”

by definition the word, “transgender” means you identify with a gender separate from what you were assigned at birth, aka, whatever the doctor assigns based off your parts. well red guy has no parts to be assigned at all, but despite this, he is still a man. this means he is literally transgender by definition of the word.

I like it a lot!! I’m admittedly not like a giant 1989 fan, but the songs I do like I vibe with. And tbh, I think these might be my favorite set of vault tracks? Like I like all of them 100%, each other set of vaults there’s one or more im not big on (sadly bc I’m a speak now stan but I can’t get behind foolish one)

totally respect that hozier’s not really your thing! i think that he’s really great but ultimately his (mostly white) fans sell him so short by describing him as like “the bog king” or whatever when his music is inspired by jazz, blues and soul singers like nina simone and otis redding. feels very much like him and mitski go through the same treatment of white teens boiling them down to an aesthetic rather than their actual art yk?

oh 100%. i think coopting any artists work to fit a preconcieved image of them that you and the internet has made is never a good thing but it feels especially insidious when done by white fans towards non-white singers and their influences. it makes it seem as though many fans are only in it because they like the person and "aesthetic" but are not trying to connect with the actual meat of the content. plus i think hoziers recognition is one of the many results of musicians of color being ignored by mainstream audiences in favor of white artists who copy or take inspiration from their sound - not to accuse hozier of anything, i dont think its something he can really control. disclaimer that im white so that obviously affects how in depth i can really go on the topic
