Robusta Espresso. If gods have a coffee, its probably a robusta. Gives a rich and full bodied espresso drinking experience that I will relate to as drinking a heart warming chocolate syrup. As far as Indian Speciality coffee is concerned, that was the goal from the very beginning. To promote good Indian Speciality coffee, a train of thought in which we could not disregard robusta. So, we decided to give it the centre stage when it came to it. From my previous experience with robusta this was an fun dial-in. As far the caffeine high is concerned it just elates you, to the point where you feel floating and fleeting. Coffee found enormous popularity with Turkish sultans in the Ottoman courts. Royal coffee makers, known as Kahveci usta, conducted elaborate coffee ceremonies. Forty assistants were needed to properly serve coffee to these sultans. Think of that next time you’re queuing for your quick morning wake up cup. It wasn’t only sultans who were treated like royalty. Turkish men would also be presented a cup of coffee by prospective brides. The woman’s suitability as a wife would be judged based on the quality of her brew. As time went on, though, it wasn’t just the women who were being judged. Potential brides would still offer their cup of coffee, but a twist developed: a sweet coffee meant she was happy with the choice, but bitter coffee showed she was decidedly unimpressed. Talk about leaving a bitter taste in your mouth… Coffee was integral to the social life in Turkey. Wealthy families built special rooms that were only used for coffee drinking. Coffee houses became common locations for business meetings and socialising, particularly for men. Although this didn’t mean women were excluded from drinking it—in fact, a married woman was legally allowed to divorce her husband if he didn’t provide her with a daily quota of coffee. Washed Arabica (2020)

This year, Josuma's spot inventory includes Washed Arabica (all single variety lots) from these featured farms. All lots 20+ bags in size.

Badnekhan Estate: Located high up on Merthi Mountain in the Chikmagalur growing district, Badnekhan is blessed both by altitude and ample shade. In 2018, this farm won Best Arabica at the Flavour of India/Fine Cup cupping competition (i.e. the Indian equivalent to Cup of Excellence) held each year during the European Specialty Coffee Expo. Cupping Notes: caramel, caramelized citrus, chocolate, toasted nuts.

Bettadakhan Estate: Located on the northern slopes of the Baba Budan Giri Hills, this is one of two Mammen family’s farms that supply us with Arabica beans. In 2018, Bettadakhan won regional Best Arabica at the Flavour of India/Fine Cup cupping competition. Cupping Notes: caramel, chocolate, caramelized citrus, orange, lemon.

Kerkeicoondah Estate: The Mammen family has grown coffee on this former British plantation, located in the Chikmagalur growing district, for three generations. Always a solid producer of S-795 variety beans, this farm’s beans have been displaying more distinctive cupping profiles as the family scales up successful washing process experiments from previous harvests. Cupping Notes: citrus w/ berries, red apple, caramel, chocolate, nuts.

Monsoon Malabar puts Indian coffee on the map🌍 The whole concept of imitating a seafaring ship for 6 month, is exquisite but difficult to score by CQI standards.🤔 Our filter roast has a bittersweet taste of tamarind, with a cinnamon aftertaste. 🤩 Note. Brewing this coffee might be tricky, the bloom shoots up quickly and flattens.
