hello party people, the sizing survey is back! for real this time!!

as many of y’all know, we are a small business dedicated to creating ethically made, size inclusive clothing! and as we continue to branch out into more kinds of apparel, particularly garments that are more fitted, we need your help to ensure that our garments fit the best they possibly can.

unfortunately, publicly accessible sizing data is horrifically fatphobic and just down right inaccurate. and if our measurements are inaccurate, then the clothing we make won’t fit right. and that’s where you can help!

we want measurements from people of all sizes

all data is completely anonymous and will not be shared

we will only use this data in the pursuit of making the best-fitting garments we possibly can

Morning Witch - Flora and fauna prints. I've purchased multiple midi skirts (with pockets!) and T-shirts, and one fantastic sweater. My datemate @fortangel loves their button downs, which have hip buttons to allow for more room.

Fresh Hot Flavors - Gorgeous prints and patterns, from floral to fantasy, anime-inspired to mythology, and of course pride colors. I've got their maxi and midi skirts, plus petticoats, all of which are super comfy and gorgeous and, again, pocketed.

Maya Kern - I've had my eye on her skirts for AGES, and now that I've got a few of my own I couldn't be happier! Once again, flora and fauna prints, plus some other neat options. These seem to fit a tad bit more snugly than the first two, so keep that in mind with sizing and be sure to pay attention to the measurements.

Witch Vamp - More skirts with pockets, skater, midi and max! A slightly darker/more edgy style, and some solid colors available too. My spider lily skirt from this shop may be the single most comfortable piece of clothing I own.

Vetiver Fox - Admittedly I don't have one of their skirts yet, but they're absolutely gorgeous and I'll be getting one as soon as they're in stock this summer. Truly stunning patterns, flora, fauna, and mythological.

Sealkie Cove - Source of my ridiculous, beloved, neon pink furby button down.

Crowlines - I don't have any of their clothes yet either, but the patterns are SO cute! Skirts and button downs. The best kitten prints ever, I think.

Cheek Boss - Odd shop out here, this one sells underwear and socks. The designs are lovely, they're ridiculously comfortable, and these are the first underwear I've ever looked at myself in and thought "Wow, I look cute!" The socks are also super cute, but I've had quality issues. Then again, they were from their first batch when they first started selling socks, and may have improved.

YESSSSS they're from an indie clothing company based in UK!! Here's the link to the specific ones I have, but check out the rest of their collection cause they have sooooooo many prints to choose from!! I am also by no means a small person (I wear a size L/US 10) but in Run & Fly's dungarees I wear a S, and they go all the way up to 4XL!! They're advertised as unisex too which rules

thinking about how I had a few folks at my last market suggest to me (kindly and with good intentions) that I make and sell some versions of the hand knit cardigan I was wearing because people would "totally pay $300 for that!"

I appreciated the sentiment, but people don't understand what goes into handmade clothes! I don't use a knitting machine. Every stitch in that garment is created by hand on needles, and the sleeves were brioche. Even using inexpensive acrylic yarn for the whole project, and accounting for the HUGE sleeve stitches (saving me time making the sleeves)—the material cost was $55 and the labor was well beyond that.

Let's conservatively estimate the cardigan took me 30 hours to create. Currently, when pressed to put a dollar amount to my time, I use the living wage as a baseline and then go up from there $1/hour for every year I have been actively practicing that particular skill. In the case of knitting that would be 11 years, and the current living wage in my area is approximately $23/hour. Setting aside the fact that this is calculated based on a 40 hour work week and I don't believe that is ethical or sustainable, we'll just leave it at $34/hour. That would make labor alone $1,020.

This brings the "production cost" to $1,075.

Items are not sold at production cost because that would leave your profit margin at 0%. This is not sustainable because it costs money to run a business (think things like paying for computer repairs, buying tools, the tablecloth you use at markets, paying for a website, etc.). Realistically to cover business costs and still come out with a 7% "net" profit margin, which is just a number pulled from averages in the clothing retail business...

... I'd have to sell that cardigan for $1,350.

So yeah! Something to think about when you see the price of clothes that are handmade. :o)

are you guys ready for some ✨ whimsy ✨ presenting: the magnolia cloak!!

✶ cotton twill exterior fabric, tencel inner lining. the (non detachable) inner vest also has 2 zippered pockets and may have an optional waist belt in the final version.

✶ for now the sizing will probably be s-3xl - this will be our own sizing, which is unisex, and ill have the size chart soon!

✶ gauging interest for this is super important so if youd like one, please consider signing up for a restock notification so we can see how many people are interested! dont worry about which size youre signing up for right now, the total number is whats important at the moment :)
