Shitty Lake aesthetic: when i was a kid i used to really want to polish bald people’s heads with one of those machines where it’s like. a big fluffy circle and it spins super fast. and see if i could see myself in the reflection on their head. the way that i could not spend more than five minutes in lake’s presence without rightfully receiving the mother of all punches to the sternum...

Premiere outfits in my teen fame dr/better cr ⋆౨ৎ˚⟡
pjo, seasons 1, 2, and 3 respectively
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For seasons one and two, I'm merely a plus one, so I have no need to have a personal theme. However, the third dress inspired by my role as rachel, the flowers reminiscent of her artistic talent.
Gravity falls seasons 1 and 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
mabel inspired, of course. the first dress is meant to have more of a girlish aesthetic, showing the innocence and lack of seriousness she shows in the first season. The second dress symbolizes the darkening themes, along with the fact that the twins are becoming more mature the closer their birthday gets.
A-Force
Tumblr media Tumblr media
sticking to the theme of using my characters colors, both outfits for the American and British premieres use the purple of Medusa's hero costume.
Infinity Train season 1 & 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
once again inspired by my role, Tulip Olsen. Since she wears a green hoodie for the first entire season. Second dress is inspired by Lake/Mirror Tulip. Infinity Train is such a huge part of my childhood, both in this reality and in my desired reality that I am in awe that I got the role as main characters of two seasons.

this was very fun, I thoroughly enjoyed coming up with these.

Infinity Train! Portal AU where the IT characters are Portal characters
Tulip: Debating between Rattman or Virgil. I know Virgil is a fanmade Core from Portal Stories MEL but y’know it would be cute! Y’know with the orange, engineering, floral aesthetic, slight sass. BUUT with Rattman is also good because the companion cube can be OneOne and with Amelia as Glados I feel Rattman can fit her in that context.
Mikayla: MEL if Tulip is Virgil. Other then that, Fact Core
Jesse: idk exactly, some sort of core or test subject probably
Lake: That one turret that goes “i’m different” and you save it from the conveyor belt going to the furnace.
Grace: Chell definitely
Simon: Wheatley!
Hazel: Companion Cube
Ryan: P-Body
Min-Gi: Atlas
Amelia: Glados
Alrick: Cave Johnson because I can’t really think of anybody else who could be him
Extras
Kez: Space Core. (Simon has to deal with her rambles for eternity lol)
Atticus: Adventure Core/Rick
The Steward: The Turrets
Alan Dracula: The defective turrets

Hsksgwkwgka yeah, its 100% not a nice expirience but the aesthetic of it is just *chefs kiss* i need to draw what i see when in trance cause its like, its a big infiniti forest with only trees, pine trees and normal trees, everything is in black pallets and dif shades of black, that contrasts with the neon yellow cyan and magenta river that leads you towards a lake where you can find The Hypnotists and it doesnt matter if you follow the flow of the river or not, you will always find the lake at the end of it
(Would lobe to hear about that medical stuff if you ever want to talk about that 👀 /nf)
@gender-mailman
Oh holy shit the river sounds like a gender to me. The vibes are just awfully good fl;kdsl;ag. Plus the concept of places that always lead to one place no matter where you go is also fucking good. What the hell f;lkd;lgskdgo;pd
So about that medical stuff. We have medical field that specializes on memory and processor core (brain in like... personality and stuff). And there's like a billion of things that can go wrong.
First is that mnemosurgeons are awfully aware of their own end, which is holy shit dude. Plus when they examine last memories of what happened to the dead one - they experience pain, and the worse death the more painful the reading is.
Second is that cerebrosurgeons are able to fucking use their abilities to actually perform shadow play. One time they managed to delete EVERY piece of emotions to one bot, who then almost FUCKING KILLED THE UNIVERSE?? Plus they had a huge institution underground, and offered body exchanges (like oh you don't like being a car? how about we change you into a plane? but with usage of other donator HUH?) Which is cool and all, but like, if you are a car you can't control a plane properly if at all. Also I think it's they managed to break my sweet co-host (character idk) to make him such a mess.
Third is actually my own experience with one mnemosurgeon. This bastard became a serial killer and started to eat everyones memories just by looking at them without these needle-finger-things that other's use. He literally controlled everyone he saw, that when he was caught he made that every single guard on that ship forgot to close the door. Then I trained him like a dog, because he doesn't use his eyes for that extraction oh noo, he's just able to access memories just by existing. And that wasn't very... great for me as I am now his hostage. So i trained him to think that he needs his eyes to read other's processors, while using his eyes to get better at my own job in an exchange of feeding random people to him.
And one time when I got to that, I actually got into his way (someone pushed me we don't talk about that) and he turned me inside out. Ouch? Yes, THAT WAS THE MOST PAINFUL THING A BOT CAN EXPERIENCE. How he did that? Well... He forces your brain to think that transformation is the best defense mechanism, but also makes you FORGET how to transform, which in turn... turns you inside out into a ball... Thought it can be repaired I swear this is traumatic and painful as fuck.
I think I had something else to say about that, but alright. You see how cerebro- and mnemo- surgeons are very personal to me? And now you see how they are very torture, gore and mental pain and whatnot.

Hello everyone! For those of you who don't know, the Infinity Train fandom has decided to start a movement on Twitter. We plan on making the #finishinfinitytrain hashtag trending in the United States. Of course, all reigons may join but the main focus is the US. We will also try and get the hashtags #renewinfinitytrain and #infinitytrain trending, but mostly just the #finishinfinitytrain one. The event starts at 10 am EST (Do reseach on your timezone difference) and will last for many days. Here are ways you can help!
1. Use the #finishinfinitytrain by tweeting memes, theories, and talking in general about the show. Of course, don't spam tweet it without anything!
2. The main focus is the US, so if you are outside of it, make sure to use a VPN that can change locations to the US. If you need recommendations, I recommend Express VPN, but if you don't have any means to pay then ThunderVPN should work nicely as well!
3. Do not spam #finishinfinitytrain in posts unrelated to the show. You can use the hashtag to get posts related to it trending of course!
4. Do not slander any other show. If you use negativity then others wouldn't want to watch the show. Make sure to fill the hashtag with positivity!
5. Promote official links to watch the show. Using pirated websites will not support the show whatsoever.
6. Have fun!! Hope I helped!

• Hello!! You can call me Lays or Vinnie, I'm a 19y/o brazilian artist! I really love cartoons (mostly Infinity Train and The Owl House) and the autumn aesthetic, so this is what my art is usually about! 🦉🚂
• If you want to ask something or talk to me, I would love to!! Also my main account is @pumpkin-deer
• Lake, Jesse and Nate Cosay and Eda Clawthorne are my current comfort characters! 💓
• Jesslake is my comfort ship, which means I make them romantic in all my drawings and AUs. If you prefer them as platonic that's super cool, just don't bother me about it!

So, uh, apologies in advance for the randomly sized images because I have no goddamn idea how image sizing Works on tumblr, or if it’s even possible, and this is gonna be kinda long, But That Said:
Imo one of Infinity Train’s biggest strengths is how skilled the artists are. The art style isn’t just consistent, grounded, and aesthetically pleasing, it’s also very expressive. You can glean a lot about the characters solely from watching their facial expressions. This is especially prominent in S3--a lot of Grace’s character development is noticeable more through her expressions than her dialogue.
That’s a post for another time, though. The facial expressions I’m currently losing it over are the series of faces Lake makes as she experiences the systematic “passengers get preferential treatment” bigotry in the lucky cat car. Because damn, the animators really fucking nailed the emotions that every oppressed person goes through when unexpectedly experiencing bigotry.
Tumblr media
First: Shock and confusion, the realization that it’s not safe for you here.
Tumblr media
Second: Settling discomfort and that “it’s happening again,” sadness.
Tumblr media
Third: Becoming almost choked up, with rising anger, disgust, and fully-realized pain. It’s happening again.
Tumblr media
Fourth: Intense anger. A moment of fury that people think they have any right to do this to you. She literally growls at Randall here. And then she swallows it back down and walks away, because what else can she do? Most of the time, oppressed people are in no position to so openly confront their oppressors--especially when the oppressor in question is a single cog in a larger machine, and attacking them directly won’t do anything for you.
Tumblr media
Fifth: Sadness, discomfort, becoming closed-off, feeling rattled and unsafe. The kind of feeling that sticks with you long after the situation has ended.
It’s definitely at least a little stupid to make an entire post analyzing a few screenshots of Lake’s expressions from, like, a 20 second scene. But I’ve seen so many cartoons/animated movies where the characters hold the same face for half a minute straight or barely emote at all, so like!! It’s honestly really amazing how expressive every single character in Infinity Train is, and how frequently they emote. Sometimes I just gotta make an appreciation post for that ♥

Musical Car!
What’s interesting is that the musical has a sign advertising Jesse’s name; Did he stop by the Musical Car at some point and inspire the denizens there with a speech about empathy, and how differences are okay? We know that had to have taken place prior to him, Lake, and Alan Dracula entering the Carnival Car, meeting The Cat, etc. Either way, I’m not at all surprised that someone as open and friendly as him would say such things, especially with an unconventional friend like Lake; And obviously he stuck by his words in the end, didn’t he?
Lemme tell you though… I was legit disturbed by that raid, as well as seeing those poor denizens get legitimately hurt and injured for no reason at all, and that ONE decapitated dude almost getting wheeled, only to be converted into Simon’s thing; Like, screw you Apex. That’s what makes Simon and Grace interesting; I’ve always imagined the concept of more problematic protagonists for this series, so it’s not much of a surprise to see Book 3 dive into this! Given how much more, well… WORSE Simon and Grace are, pehaps it’s not all-too surprise that their arc was confined to HBO Max, given the even more mature tone set by them and their actions!
Honestly, those two rapidly switch and range from terrible, nasty jerks I want to punch, to misfits with banter and chemistry, and plenty of comradery; Especially for people they DO care about! It really drives the point home that not every bad person is PURE evil, like they don’t spend every waking moment plotting how terrible they can be, and most don’t even consider themselves as bad! It’s disconcerting, but a good look into their mindset; With Grace genuinely trying to be nice and caring to the kids and not hurting their feelings, but also repeating Amelia’s lies about the train denizens being there for the passengers’ benefit, and… More on that later.
Also- Glad to see Grace make fun of Simon’s fashion sense and acknowledge it, but at the same time… Either he was ten when he began to wear socks with sandals, AND/OR he was ten when he first met Grace; Presumably on the Infinity Train, although the idea of two individuals knowing one another PRIOR to boarding it is also fascinating! Especially given how Book 2 discussed the idea of fate and pre-determination in one’s paths and all…
It’s interesting to see that not all Apex kids are against the denizens, like some DO want to make friends with them (albeit in a very invasive manner), but Grace and Simon just shut them down. I have to wonder if they themselves also had a similar moment with Amelia, only to be brutally shut down; And Amelia is objectively worse than those two considering how much higher her number is, and how SHE was the one who started this dumb ideology in the first place (instead of just being taught it at a vulnerable moment in her life like everybody else)!
What’s worth noting is that Simon has a device that can detect the presence of other passengers, which is both VERY cool and VERY useful; I have to wonder if it’ll detect Hazel in the Jungle Car however. Given the speculation of her being a train denizen, it’d serve as neat, subtle foreshadowing as to her true nature, and I can see the show touching upon this! Also, the aesthetics of that device reminds me of what The Cat would own; Given how she’ll make a return this Book and has had a run-in with at least Grace in the past, I can easily see it being something she’d own. She IS a collector of useful things, after all… And I have to wonder if maybe The Cat was even a companion of Simon or Grace; Or maybe even Amelia! Perhaps the Passenger-Detector was a ‘gift’ from Amelia…
(I mean, they HAVE to bring her back in Book 3, given how her ideology and actions are a direct consequence of everything that happens, and would fit nicely into her eventual redemption arc. Not to mention it’d give a fascinating insight as to what was going on in her mind when she indoctrinated the Apex.)
Neat detail seeing the Unfinished Car with those corgi diplomats, and nice joke with that one turtle talking to what’s later revealed to be a phone with a line that’s already cut anyway! Grace breaking her Harpoon Pack makes sense; She wasn’t seen with one in the trailer and posters, and I guess it’d help ‘balance’ things if only one protagonist had a Harpoon Pack; So they can’t just skip over cars on their way back!
Speaking of a way back; We have a set number of cars leading back to the Mall Car, so in other words we have a way of keeping track of the journey’s progress! It IS worth noting that the cars could always rearrange… It’s interesting to learn that cars apparently don’t move when passengers are inside; I always assumed that sometimes they might’ve and a passenger wouldn’t notice because all the cars look identical from the outside, and also being inside a pocket-dimension kind of skews around with the sensation of what’s going on outside. It’s possible that Simon and Grace actually felt the movement because of the Unfinished Car’s unusual nature…
Regardless, after that disturbing opening scene it makes sense that One-One is stepping in! Given how he values the passengers more than the denizens (as seen with his second and final interaction with Lake), it makes me wonder how much he actually CARES; Or if he can’t afford to have people ‘breaking equipment’, and/or is mostly doing this to lean the Apex towards becoming better people by confronting them over their actions! At this point, they may end up pushing One-One too much and he’ll have to send in his Steward…
Getting onto some existential crisis, the cruel thing about Simon and Grace saying that the denizens are made for them is… They’re actually kind of right? NOT that this justifies at all their wanton, senseless cruelty towards the train denizens… But it ties back to Lake’s existential crisis in Book 2, the realization and likelihood that she (and maybe even the Mirror World) was made purely for the character development of people like Tulip and Jesse! One-One himself outright says in the Book 2 Finale that, YEAH; Train Denizens are supposed to stay on the train because their entire purpose, their entire means of creation was just to fulfill what the passengers need!
…Obviously, using them for raids ISN’T what One-One (and/or whoever made the Infinity Train/the Infinity Train itself) intended… But the disturbing realization still stands that the denizens’ purpose and creation in life is for the betterment of passengers, to accompany them, aid them… In the past, I’ve speculated how some Cars and their inhabitants don’t seem to have much of a personality beyond being a basic caricature to fulfill the ‘theme’ of a car, as well as aiding in passengers’ journeys! And obviously they’re all PEOPLE, but again this ties back into just how real the pasts and worlds of denizens were, as discussed by Mace; The idea that entire histories and cultures have been fabricated, and pre-programmed into the memories of denizens.
Needless to say, it’s very disturbing… And if Simon and Grace ever change their stance on denizens and even start vouching for them, it’d be a brilliant reversal of their beginning attitudes to have them call out One-One for making sapient people for the sole purpose of serving others; Which could be a dilemma for him given how HE may have been made for the purpose of others! Given how Amelia taught the Apex her ideals, and she was Conductor for a time and thus had rather intimate knowledge of the Infinity Train… perhaps what she says about the denizens being just ‘toys’, made for the passengers, isn’t too far a stretch from the truth; Obviously a dark, twisted, and selfish distortion. But it’s emblematic, reflecting a deeper, underlying issue that could lie with the Infinity Train itself.
(Especially since Owen Dennis said that One-One and the Infinity Train can be wrong…)
Given how Amelia made cars with denizens that only ‘turned on’ once a car was considered ‘complete’ (or close to it), it suggests that she knows all about the artificial, pre-programmed nature of denizens because she’s made a few ones; Which when coupled with how she probably tried to make a Fake Alrick, and ultimately realized that a replica would never be the same… Eerily, it lends to the idea that part of what made Amelia realize this at the end of Book 1, was her mindset that denizens are just follow, fake copies of pre-existing things and aren’t even real to begin with.
THAT is a cruel twist; That the very ideas that founded the Apex and caused our issues in Book 3, were low-key what helped Amelia wake up from her fantasy and realize that she needed to confront her issues! Given how high her number is, it only makes sense that while she’s making progress, she STILL has some more fundamental problems to tackle; Specifically the idea that while denizens aren’t the same or ‘real’ as the original, they’re still people and whatnot!
All in all, a VERY fascinating watch! Just eleven minutes, but I’m hooked in; Sure this does tie a lot back to previously-established concepts, but what story-driven show doesn’t? It really recontextualizes and makes you think back about what WAS discussed already and how it changes with the more we learn and explore!

200925 Key Tracks: SuperM’s ‘Super One’
The members of SuperM - Taemin, Baekhyun, Kai, Taeyong, Mark, Ten and Lucas - are amongst the most skilled and experienced dancers, rappers and vocalists in the South Korean pop industry.
Dubbed by their label upon debut as the ‘Avengers as K-Pop”, ostensibly for this formidable combination of talents, Super M went on to prove equally powerful on the charts. Their eponymous debut EP, released last October, landed at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 200 and No.19 in the UK album chart.
Out in a matter of hours, their first full-length album, ‘Super One’ (preceded by the singles ‘100’ and ‘Tiger Inside’) brings with it, says the group, a message of unity in a time of pandemic and uncertainty.
Earlier this week, SuperM partook in a global, roundtable interview live from Seoul, unpacking the elements that lie within their sound and behind their teamwork. Here’s everything we know about K-Pop’s latest supergroup, and their brand new record.
Key track 1: Infinity
Beloved by Mark and Ten’s for its “dynamic and storytelling”, ‘Infinity’ is nothing short of a space opera, fired up with choral bursts and a demanding wub-wub bass that twists beneath the harmonies. “Like a blaze of glory, going overdrive / Going to live my story, everything I do to feel alive,” they declare, more victorious than defiant.
Even a supergroup needs motivation and, no matter how long they’ve spent being pop stars, SuperM are still constantly learning and honing their craft Rapper Mark calls reaching No.1 on the US charts an “honour. To have our fans combine their strength to help us really felt great. It motivated us and we put in double the amount of effort [on this album], so we believe the quality went up that much as well.”
If there’s any pressure on them to repeat the success of their EP, then they’re not outwardly displaying it. Instead, Baekhyun, the group’s eldest at 28, looks at their growth as performers. “One of the things I learned in preparing for this album is we were able to stretch our limits even more. We’ve released ‘100’, ‘Tiger Inside’ and now, the title track ‘One’. Each of these songs has such a great concept and choreography and putting all that together was really challenging.”
Key track 2: Big Chance
“I personally like taking big chances and opportunities so this song, just the title itself, captured my attention,” says Baekhyun. “It’s a good song that showcases our individual charms.” Sung in English, this western radio-friendly cut is frothy with a falsetto hook and bouncy instrumental, triggering a yearning for simpler times, fun summer nights and the press of a warm hand into your own. One key ingredient to SuperM’s appeal is their yin and yang charms - consummate professionals on stage, the epitome of chaotic good off stage.
Though only just clear of a year as a group, their connection is infallible; during the 40-minute roundtable they cheer like sports fans after their every reply and so frequently get the giggles mid-answer that, at one point, they’re hushed by their staff and sit scolded like naughty schoolboys. Hong Kong-born Lucas, whose Korean isn’t fluent, sends his bandmates into fits of brotherly laughter as he enthusiastically attempts to summarize their “different but connected” aesthetics but there’s a telepathy between all seven and Kai and Mark patiently, warmly, elucidate for him.
Taeyong, in halting but near-perfectly inflected English, recalls Taemin’s detailed work on their choreography and calls their performances “really dope and great, and untouchable”, and Mark and the group’s second English-speaker, Ten, beam.
But SuperM’s funniest moments are unintentional, often born from juxtaposition: Kai politely discussing his love of the “energising” ‘Tiger Inside’ but there’s Mark and Taemin distractingly pose like circus tigers, or Baekhyun revealing their sonic maturation as - “We wanted to relay the message of positivity rather than just focus on the performance” - even as Taemin thoroughly amuses himself by practising the severed thumb trick.
Key track 3: Better Days
The ballad with underrated beginnings, according to Ten. “When I listened to that song, I was like, ‘does it sound kinda old, seriously, it sounds like [from the] 90s’,” he says. Although the verses are perhaps more Macklemore than Mytown, its sweet, retro chorus blooms over a simple piano line, and the message, adds Ten, “is healing. When we’re together, we can make a better day.”
From tanks to supercars, SuperM are known for their use of vehicles in their videos, but there’s more to it than being a petrolhead Their debut single, ‘Jopping’, featured a helicopter and a tank, ‘100’ gave us CGI cars and a futuristic train, and ‘Tiger Inside’ sported a garish fur print motorbike but, according to Kai, this affinity for things that go vroom-vroom isn’t merely an aesthetic. “We can’t really travel right now because of the pandemic but we really hope that, just like these modes of transportation [can] take you somewhere, that our songs and music and album can take you to a place of hope, that higher place where everyone can be happy.”
Key track 4: Together At Home
The aim of ‘Super One’, says Mark, is to bring hope and unity to a world gone dark. “For ‘Together At Home’ (Taeyong’s favourite track), we really felt, like, ‘we’re all staying together at home so what are the ways we can connect through our songs?’” It’s one of the album’s finest moments - joyous, high gloss synth-funk with a chorus that steals the show with pure panache. Making an album that not only highlights each member’s skills but also creates a definitive SuperM is not an easy task.
The members’ respective groups - SHINee, WayV, NCT and EXO - already have such defined sonic identities that creating an entirely new one for SuperM would have been wildly ambitious. Instead, SuperM is a lake into which four rivers flow, and ‘Super One’, which takes an individual leaf out of each group’s playbooks (EXO’s glorious harmonies, NCT’s bonkers bass lines, and so on) and wilfully sews them together, is that aspiration realised.
For SuperM, their album is a leap forward; Taemin points out that ‘Super One’ harmonises the member’s skills “way better than we did initially [on the ‘SuperM’ EP], with this album we’re able to experiment more and try out different genres and see how it comes together.”
Key track 5: Wish You Were Here
“This would have been a great title track,” says Taemin, who chooses it as his favourite. “It’s one that’s kind of unexpected because audiences expect performance-heavy songs and the message within this brings the whole album together.” Faintly tinged with the flavour of steel drums and 80s percussion, the longing woven into the rhythms is dream-like and hypnotic.
No matter how successful you appear, there’s always seemingly wobbly career stepping stones… and you just have to take them, one haircut at a time Between them, they possess over 40 years of experience as performers yet Taeyong admits that not everything they work on feels clear cut. “I’m sure everyone feels the same way but, when we started our careers, a lot of the moments we go through feel like we’re still trying to get there. We’re not fully there yet.
There’s a lot of moments where it might have felt like a failure but everything was a step to build up to what we have now.” Such pragmatism means that their keenest regrets are, quite fortunately, follicle related. “When I debuted,” recalls Mark, “my hair was very short so my bangs were above my eyebrows and I honestly hated it. But coming back to it now, it was cute, it was appropriate for that age, that time of my life.”
Ten agrees wholeheartedly: “Like [for] ‘7th Sense’, when I saw my hair, I was like, ‘this is not going to work out’ but now I miss it so much!” It has to be said that it’s just hair but Mark, his own faded from being magenta into a cotton-candy pink, and as a K-Pop veteran, cheerily protests such a claim. “Hair is an important factor!”

Café Rischioso
Word: 2k+ Dedicated to @taetaesbaebaepsae

Hearts of gold are hard to come by, especially within the anthill that is your university - each person focused on their mission, side-quests be damned. Still, there are those who appreciate deviations from their mundane routine. They relished in the oddest hours of the day, nursing their own thoughts and temptations in the wee hours of the rising sun, when the moon still warred with full force for its rightful territory in the sky. You found one in the man standing opposite the café where you worked.
There he stood, under the golden blaze of the street light, waiting for the last bus; that blessed soul ferrying souls to their final destination whether it be their own bed or the painful solace of someone else's.
On his watch, the number three blinked in the dim light; a timer counting down, but paused as if understanding the infinity that existed in this moment. The world seemed different when he was limited to only the energy left to him. The ghosts of the day left to join their families in desolate graveyards as he continued to stand under the lamplight, waiting with bated breath for a stranger to carry him home. Across the way, his eyes fell on another source of light, this one eliciting much more warmth that his current shelter. It flowed in rivers out of a jazz bar, the familiar melodies providing the soundtrack for his conversation with .... who was it again that he was talking to?
It could have been anyone, but he remembered a voice, throaty and pristine, that he had listened to for hours. Her voice was not beautiful by any standards, but it had character to it. Between muttered profanity and biology, he read wonder and pain, anger and compassion, and all sorts of paradoxes that only existed in the minds of the elderly. Yet here they were, swirling around in dark coffee he had held, both hands, interlocked at the fingers; the only proper way to hold a coffee.
In the beginning, there was a butterfly. And on this chilly morning, where the winter air chipped at upturned collars and muslin scarves, Taehyung found himself leaning over a parking timer staring at it; the poor thing had gotten itself stuck on the cold metal. Thus far, the man’s morning had not been the greatest. He had woken up late, spilled his coffee, let out an undignified yelp, and missed the subway. At this point, he had given up. He was already late, would a few more minutes change much? Besides, he had never seen the park covered with snow like that, sparkling teardrops from Mother Nature accumulating over the trees and water.
With a minute smile on his face at the soon to come festivities, for snow always meant Christmas in his mind, he reached out a hand to the frenzied wings of the creature that flashed alternating colors of muted grey and vibrant orange. As delicately as he could, he allowed a single finger to rest on the ice, hoping his body heat would coax the solid to change. Soon enough the chemical laws of water had allowed the butterfly to be free. As it flew away, the man stared at it longingly, eyes trained on the small insect until it disappeared into the foliage alongside the lake. As most did - he too wished he could fly. Why did man want to fly? It was still a mystery to both the man and to the human species as a whole.
‘Why am I here?’ he asked himself an hour later sitting in his main class. The meaning is buried under the Mount Everest of morals and conflicting theories. Yet, this does not stop individuals from making their own call on the subject. The man does not know yet.
All he does know is that he wants another coffee, so during a break between classes, he dashes to the only café on campus; and a regular hub for those looking for their aesthetic fix for the day. It was late afternoon, and the café was vacant, except for a lone figure occupying an entire table. She was surrounded by an explosion of papers, each one marked with the rainbow as she pored over each one with meticulous detail.
Calloused hands rubbed at downy skin, not doing much to prevent the words from swimming before your eyes. It had been a long two hours of studying for you, but the information had stopped sinking in a long time ago. Feeling like you deserved a break, you tore your eyes away to stare at the menu, deciding that the best reward for a job well done was the overpriced food that this café offered. Standing in front of the only visible barista was a tall figure blocking your perfect view of the glass case of pastries. Scowling at the fact you would actually have to get up, you walked around his form, eyes searching for your personal favorite; coffee cake.
As you ordered, Taehyung chose to secure his favorite spot in back, his drink and food in hand as he searched for his own little haven among the tell-tale wood of the furniture. There was something ancient about the wood, which most likely had only been created a few years ago. Still among the imperfections he found the history of the world. Each impurity had a source and each source was the pure power of raw emotion.
An artist had the job of capturing these moments within their work, but seemed a daunting task for the dark-haired male. How was he supposed to capture something so vast in a single moment; it was evasive at it's core and as ambiguous as the fog that set in during the melancholy breaths of the city. How was he supposed to put these feelings on a piece not even a foot in length and width?
"Just my luck!" Hard eyes quickly glanced in the direction of the guilty party that had stolen the last piece of coffee cake. In your moment of distraction, the prize had slipped out from under your nose. Thus, you settled for second best and made your way back to your mess of a table with your consolation prize. There was something about the atmosphere that made today feel different for him. It could be the empty café.
Most of the time there was a steady stream of customers to provided the soft melody that he worked to editing his latest camera roll, ceaselessly scrolling through the park flowers until he finds the one. His intuition was not to be questioned; when he said that a photo was the one, there was nobody in the world that could convince him otherwise. Many times he had followed his intuition down the most unlikely of routes, only to find the proverbial pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. His most famous photograph was discovered at the end of an alley way, in the explosion of colors on the brick wall. Timeless in that it didn't seem to be dated and with the telltale signs of fatigue in the wrinkles of pain across the vibrant shades of spray paint.
But in the middle of the day, with only the bored worker and the other student, the moment felt serene. A coffee shop could be nice with the background chatter of the patrons that muted itself to a low buzz if you stayed there long enough. On the other hand, it could be silent in everything, allowing the select few who gained access to feel the building breath. The comforting scent of ground bean wrapping around the body with its musky tendrils, lulling you into the safe embrace of sleep.
Perhaps it was fate, or it was the explainable powers of the shop, but you and the man with you let out a loud sigh at the same time. Both of you heard the other, forcing you to lock eyes over the edge of the table and let out a small smile. It was a language all on its own, one created by strangers that bridged the social barrier for just a moment. But then in the next moment, it was always lost.
You feared that like most of the other lingua francas in your life, this one would lose itself as the male was drawn back towards his own world. It was moment of disappointment whenever you fooled yourself into being hopeful that perhaps the conversation would continue past shared looks in the middle of crowed hallways, or in this case an empty coffee shop. Then all feeling faded as they went back to whatever felt more important to them, which from what you've seen could be a wide variety of things.
Turning back your messy biology notes, you tried to lose yourself in the world of protein formation. But before you could study a single world, a shadow fell over your papers. Scowling a little at the interruption, you turned your head only to find yourself staring up at the man who you had locked eyes with before. It was jarring, realizing that maybe he had not forgotten about you after the small connection the both of you shared over a mutual sense of fatigue.
You didn't even know his name, but it was a meeting of kindred souls. You didn't know how you knew, but somewhere in the crevasses of your bones, you felt that he was the type nurse a coffee into the small hours of the morning, or curl up in front of the fireplace with a book. He would accompany you on the times your spontaneity overcame your common sense and forced you into morning convenience store runs, scouring the aisles for ramyeon or sausages; something to keep you satiated as you finished the season of your current Netflix obsession. He was the kind that enjoyed the mere presence of someone, and didn't need anything fancy in terms of dates.
All these thoughts hit you at once, muting you for the mere second it took for him to turn his head and face you; shock and awe evident on his face.
"How?" It was like ice shattered around you, some kind of special effect from a movie. His voice was hot chocolate, dark, rich, warm, and comforting all at once. You were rendered mute for a moment. Perhaps that's why you were unable to form even a full word when you responded.
"Huh?" It was a sound existing somewhere on the edge of shock and awe, unable to fall of the white picket fence in between two neighbors. He didn't seem bothered by your lack of vocal cords. He just continued. That's all he had ever known was to continue, so that's what he did.
When his grandparent died, he continued.
When he became scarred with a leather belt, he continued.
When he was abandoned for a new son, he continued.
It was a dreary life, but it was his life.
"How do you manage to look so tired, yet so alive at the same time?" His voice faded out towards the end as the both of you locked eyes. And suddenly, he wasn't a stranger to you. The lingua franca the both of you had created moments before returned and the both you spoke it with such a ferocity that you nearly started at the experience.
It was the purest of connections between the both of you. No knowledge of the space you inhabited, only the universe that you had created with him. It was colored the warm honey of his eyes and spun to the beat of his breathing, timing itself with each rise and fall of his lungs. Through the far window you felt the rays of the sun on your face and watched how they reflected in his eyes, shifting the shade to more of a warm brandy. It was a bitter and rough taste that lingered on your tongue as you watched him.
His hand itched, fingers aching to press the shutter on his camera and capture the roaring waters in her eyes. The more he looked, the more he willingly drowned. And the more he drowned, the more he felt like he was alive.
"I really hope that what you said was just a really bad attempt at flirting." You let out a slight giggle, leaning away from the mess of notes on the table.
"Nope. That was me trying to ask if I can take your picture." The worst past was how serious he sounded. Taehyung fell in love during an infinite minute. Stretching impossibly long despite it being only a moment in time.
They were all a moment in time, controlling each second that stamped itself in history, whether or not the action or thought was recorded for later generations. The most beautiful idea was a the butterfly effect. Something so small and insignificant could create such a powerful effect on the world. He'd always wanted to find that butterfly for him. That one thing that he could look back on as a series of happenstances, randomized coincidences that brought him to the prime of his life.
He had never seen such expressive eyes in his life. Taehyung, a connoisseur and creator, had never found such inspiration, and he never would again. Among the swirling depths of her eyes, danced a storm; and he was caught in the middle. Between thunder and lighting, he existed for a minute in her eyes. Not just living to continue, but living to live for once. She was the perfect paradox to his life. The perfect person to take everything he knew and spin it on it's head.
He was the perfect logic for her mind to solve. Ingenuity flowed from his skin like a natural pheromone, tainting the air with his ideas.
They were infectious to each other. Yet, they were also each other's cure.
