I started listening to inkwyrm for the funsies but now i'm crying why there's colonialism in my fun gay stupid comedy and the interplanetary fascist corporation isn't even the scariest part

so here’s the thing,

i listened to where the stars fell a few months ago and absolutely loved it. i started to admire newton schottelkotte as someone who started in the fiction podcasting industry quite young and is now trying to impart wisdom onto the future generation of creatives.

i felt compelled to believe them over rusty quill because:

1. rusty quill has been known to do shady things in the past and it’s not so hard to believe they would do it again

and:

2. i generally trust the word of independent creators over companies (though of course newt is not as “independent” as they first presented themself in the article)

but god this whole thing is a mess. other people have articulated way better than i ever could why newt’s article is just bad journalism all around and i appreciate the critical thinking coming out of the podcast community at this time.

i’m mostly just afraid that magnus fans will see this as an opportunity to look down on independent fiction podcasts. most people reading newton’s article have never heard of them or their work before. maybe it’s the gatekeeper in me but i’m worried this may lead to negative attention on the fiction podcasting community as a whole. of course that’s not rusty quill’s fault, or magnus fans’ faults necessarily, it’s newt’s, and that’s what makes it so much worse.

that’s just my two cents as someone who’s a fan of both camp’s work. i don’t think it’s worth anything but none of my real life friends know what the hell i’m talking about when i bring up podcast drama and this is my blog i’ll do whatever the hell i want.

I haven't been super in the podcast loop for a time, does anyone have a list of aro ace characters from audio dramas? I'd love to prove my friend wrong whi was going on about how "none exist, especially happy ones".

Mini Marconis is a been-there-done-that miniseries from Newton Schottelkotte for the next generation of audio drama creators. In 2020 and 2021, the fiction podcast industry was flooded with a crop of young high school and college-age creators, excited to take advantage of the medium’s low barrier to publication and take on producing for the first time. Audio drama veteran and “baby” “genius” Newt Schottelkotte knows how that feels. After starting their first fiction podcast, Inkwyrm, at fifteen, Newt came of age in the industry, and wants to share their tips, trials, and experience with young creators to arm them with not just concrete advice, but the confidence to get started and tell incredible stories. From overcoming imposter syndrome, to networking, to finding a work-school-more-work-life balance, this is a been-there-done-that series about how to be a fiction podcaster while still being a kid– in every sense of the phrase. I can attest that there is so much great knowledge in this show that would benefit audio drama creators of any age. I was interviewed for an episode about crowdfunding!
