Last week, v335, was an important update. If you are updating from v334 or earlier, please go read that release post for your special one-time update instructions and update to v335 before you try this week. Once you have updated to v335, updating to anything newer is back to normal.
I had a good week. A bunch of py3-related bugs are fixed, and I improved some heavy-load throttling.
py3 fixes
Overall, last week's update went well. CPU and memory use and overall jank is down for all users, and afaik there weren't any permanent disasters in the update. This was a big relief for me.
That said, as expected, several unusual bugs related to py3's new unicode handling slipped through. Thank you for the reports. A common one was related to windows logging, another was in pixiv searching with kanji tags, another with videos with unicode metadata. I believe I have cleaned most if not all of it up. There may be a couple more out there, so please let me know if you get anything new. Otherwise, please resume any broken subs or retry any broken webm imports.
I also fixed the numerical tag ui, which was coercing all clicks to to zero or max stars, and which I messed up by accident!
better heavy workflow
The client now has a strict thread-level throttle on the number of importers that can work at once. It seperates the different sub-parts into their own max limits, but the overall total limit is about 20-40. This is in an effort to stop ui hang after accidental heavy import situations such as pasting 100+ queries into a gallery downloader. This is a 1.0 throttle and doesn't have any ui to report 'waiting on a slot' or anything. I don't expect 99% of users will even notice it, but if it affects you seriously, please let me know.
In a related note, for advanced users, gallery downloaders now have the ability to 'bundle' mass-pastes into one downloader, queueing up all the different gallery queries sequentially in the same object (rather than in many in parallel, which is what previously cluttered the ui and boshed the CPU). If you sometimes paste a bunch of single-file md5-queries at once, please check this new check menu item under the gallery downloader's cog menu.

added an advanced check item to the gallery downloader cog icon menu that will 'bundle' multiple query-pastes to the same single gallery downloader (this is helpful if you are pasting a whole bunch of md5 queries in one go and would rather one downloader work through them sequentially than 50+ separate ones blat your CPU simultaneously)
the different kinds of importer worker threads now have several limits on the max number that can be working at once, to stop accidental ui overload when a hundred or more are in memory and all want to work at once (like after a big paste event or resuming after computer sleep). during periods of heavy import activity, the importers will now naturally space themselves out to smooth out the spike. the limits are hardcoded for now, let me know if it noticeably bottlenecks your situation
made some menubar update code a bit less complicated and reduced how often it'll spam during heavy update
the 'what to do?' buttons that appear in manage tags sometimes on a tag action got a simplification pass and are now on the new dialog system
simplified my new dialog code significantly, clearing out redundant code and classes and pushing all okable/cancellable/vetoable closing checks through one single method

How to Rename an Azure Storage Account
If you’ve ever wondered about this question, here’s the answer: yes, you can rename your Azure storage account! But there are some rules you need to follow to do so. This post will tell you how to rename an Azure storage account and will go over the rules you must follow in order to complete this task successfully.

  Can I rename my Azure storage account?
You can’t rename a storage account once it’s created. You can delete and recreate it with a new name, but you lose all data in your existing storage account when you do that. If you need to change your storage account name, follow these steps: (rename)
Step 1: Make sure that all of your files are saved on Azure Blob Storage or another location outside of your current storage account.
Step 2: Delete your storage account. Don’t worry, we’ll show you how to get any lost data back if necessary in Step 3 below!
Step 3: Re-create a new storage account with the new name.
What is the easiest way to rename a storage account?
Since Azure makes it easy to create a storage account, it is also easy to rename one. To do so, log into your Azure portal and navigate over to All Services->Azure Resource Manager->Storage. Select your desired storage account and click Manage at the bottom of your screen: From here, select Rename from your displayed options on the right hand side of your screen. Your Storage Account will now be renamed accordingly. You can confirm that everything was updated by refreshing or navigating back into your Settings within Azure. Note: Changing or renaming a storage account has no impact on any of its data stored in said account; only its name and URL will change/update respectively upon completion of these steps.
Why should I care about renaming a storage account?
There are a few reasons you may want to rename your storage account. Maybe you accidentally made a typo in your resource group name or maybe your business has changed and you need a new brand. Whatever it is, if it’s impacting your Azure customers then you should learn how to rename it as soon as possible.  Unfortunately, though easy to do, there are quite a few steps involved so let’s take a look at how I did it using my DevTestLab2016RG sample Resource Group.
What if I want to use the same name again?
If you need to assign a name that is already in use by another storage account, you will need to first deactivate your existing storage account. Once deactivated, rename your storage account and reactivate it using Azure portal. To learn more about how to deactivate and reactivate storage accounts in the Azure portal, please visit our support page.
Can I change the region after renaming my storage account?
No, you cannot change your storage account region after you rename it. If you need a new region, create a new storage account. Do not delete or rename your existing storage account; if you do, any data that is stored in that account will be permanently lost. You can, however, move your data to another storage account before deleting your current one. Please see Moving Data Between Azure SQLdatabase Accounts for more information on moving data between accounts.
When will the change take effect?
This change will take effect immediately. To see your new storage account name, you will need to sign in and refresh your browser window. Note that your configuration values are not changed by renaming a storage account; however, if you wish to update them please do so now. If it's been a while since you configured any of these values then we suggest reviewing how to get started with Azure Storage for details on setting up your connection string for any service except for blobs (this process is slightly different). It's important that these values be accurate or else accessing your data may become challenging or impossible.

Data Recovery
It is the process of retrieving data from secondary storage, removable media, or files that has been deleted or lost, or that has been corrupted, damaged, or formatted when the data held in them cannot be accessed in the normal way. Internal and external hard disk drives (HDDs), solid-state drives (SSDs), USB flash drives, magnetic tapes, compact discs (CDs), digital video discs (DVDs), and other electronic devices are the most common storage media from which data can be recovered. Physical damage to the storage devices or logical damage to the file system that prevents the file system from being mounted by the host operating system may necessitate recovery of the information (OS).

For example, on a single-drive, single-partition, single-OS system, the most common data recovery scenarios are: an operating system failure; a storage device malfunction; storage device logical failure; accidental damage or deletion; and so on. The ultimate goal in these scenarios is simple: copy all important files from the damaged media to a second, new drive. This can be performed by booting directly from a ROM instead of the corrupted drive in question while using a Live CD or DVD to restore functionality. Many Live CDs or DVDs provide the ability to mount the system drive as well as backup drives or removable media, as well as the ability to transfer files from the system drive to the backup media using a file manager or optical disc writing software, among other things. These types of situations can frequently be avoided by dividing the hard drive and putting valuable data files (or copies of them) on a separate partition from the replaceable operating system system files.
Another scenario involves a breakdown at the level of the drive, such as a corrupted file system or drive partition, or a failure of the hard disk drive itself. In any of these scenarios, the data stored on the media devices is difficult to retrieve. In some cases, repairing the logical file system, partition table, or master boot record is required, while in others, drive recovery techniques are required. These include everything from software-based recovery of corrupted data to hardware- and software-based recovery of damaged service areas (also known as the "firmware" of the hard disk drive) to hardware replacement on a physically damaged drive that allows for data extraction to a new drive. If a drive recovery is required, it is usually because the drive has failed permanently, and the focus is on doing a one-time recovery and rescuing whatever data can be recovered from the drive.
Another possibility involves individuals mistakenly "deleting" files from a storage medium without realizing it. As a general rule, the contents of deleted files are not instantly wiped from the physical disk; instead, references to them are removed from the directory structure, and then space occupied by the deleted data is made available for later data overwriting. End users may believe that deleted files are no longer accessible with a typical file manager, yet the data is still technically present on the actual hard drive. The original file contents are still present, frequently in a number of disconnected fragments, and may be retrieved provided they have not been overwritten by other data files during this time period.
As well as in the context of forensic applications and counter-espionage, the phrase "data recovery" is used to refer to the process of recovering data that has been encrypted or hidden, rather than damaged. Data stored on a computer can become encrypted or hidden for a variety of reasons, including virus attacks, and can only be recovered by certain computer forensic professionals.
Damage to the physical body
Data recovery hardware is another option.
Physical damage to storage medium can be caused by a wide range of failures, including human mistake and natural calamities, among other things. A variety of mechanical problems, such as head crashes, PCB failures, and failed motors, can occur in CD-ROM media; tapes can simply break due to the scratching off of their metallic substrate or dye layer.
In the event of physical damage to a hard drive, even in the event of a head collision, it is not always the case that the data would be lost permanently. A large number of professional data recovery businesses have developed ways that can typically recover the majority, if not all, of the data that had been lost when the loss occurred.
It should be noted that there are some exceptions to this rule, such as circumstances in which the hard drive platters have been severely damaged.
