THEIR LOVE LANGUAGE
Tumblr media
ZUKO
Physical touch - Zuko is still learning to openly express emotion, but physical touch comes naturally to him as it means of connection. Expect casual affection like hand holding, cuddling with you on the couch, and lingering hugs whenever you're together. Making love is also his way of showing all the feelings he still struggles to put into words.
AANG
Acts of Service- Aang happily handles household chores you don't like so you have less things to care about. He remembers the small things that make your life easier like cooking your favorite meal ,Little pampering back rubs when you're stressed are his love language. His support is unfailing, he'll help you with anything, no request is too small or big.
SOKKA
Physical Touch- Sokka is always finding excuses to be near you, with an arm around your waist or holding your hand. Casual physical intimacy is how he shows his love. Cuddling and lazy morning kisses in bed are some of his favorite ways to bond with you. He gives the best hugs warm, comforting and making you feel completely cared.
KORRA
physical touch and Words of Affirmation - Korra regularly expresses how much she cares through compliments, words of encouragement, and expressing what she admires about you. She's generous with affectionate nicknames that make your heart melt. She also likes to be as close to you as possible, so physical intimacy is very important to her, resting her hand on your waist, holding hands, cuddling, she enjoys each if it's with you.
IROH II
Words of Affirmation- Iroh makes sure to tell you how beautiful, intelligent, and talented he thinks you are every day. Compliments come easily to him. After passionate moments together, he whispers words of adoration and care into your skin. Iroh writes you little cute letters expressing his feelings when he can't see you.
MAKO
physical touch - Mako is surprisingly very affectionate. He enjoys wrapping you in his arms, holding your hand, gentle caresses, kissing your lips/forehead, playing with your hair. Cuddling and intimacy are big for him. Physical touch helps him feel connected.
BOLIN
Acts of Service and physical touch- Bolin secretly enjoys doing thoughtful things to take the load off your shoulders. He'll tackle household chores without being asked or cook your favorite meal. Small gestures to showhe cares. He is naturally affectionate. He loves holding hands, giving you full-body hugs, stealing sweet kisses whenever possible, and finds simple pleasures in little acts like brushing your hair or massaging your shoulders after a long day. Physical intimacy between you is a must.
TAHNO
physical touch -Tahno is very physically affectionate, especially after becoming intimate. He loves holding hands, casual touches, kissing, cuddling, and of course more passionate embraces. Public PDA doesn't scare him,Physical touch is how he feels most connected and shows his deepest affection.
KATARA
Quality Time - Katara is a fantastic listener and gives you her full attention when you're together. Date nights in are romantic - just curled up together talking for hours means the world. She loves learning about your interests. the time you spend together is always meaningful.
ASAMI
Receiving Gifts - Gifts from Her always feel personal ,something she saw that made her think of you. She pays attention to little things you mention in passing just so she can surprise you later.
JET

The funniest bit of the entire Fire Nation royal family is how stupid some of their decision are, yet somehow they keep working out in their favour?? Like Sozin loses his boyfriend (the Avatar. The one who keeps the balance) by suggesting the Fire Nation goes to war, and then the Fire Nation goes to war anyway. Ozai’s nephew dies in a presumably horrific way and he believes that’s a brilliant moment to ask his dad to make him next in line to the throne, and when that backfires, his wife saves him and their kids and he manages to become Firelord anyway. Iroh decides the best place to lie low and start a life outside of the war is to hide in the city he, personally, laid a 600 day siege on and become a renowned tea maker, and this would’ve worked out had his niece not taken over the city. He also wants tea SO BADLY while on the run that he canonically takes his chances on a potentially incredibly deadly plant (it’s the deadly plant) and he survives. Zuko’s numerous Impulsive and Arguably Bad Decisions that Somehow Work Out Anyway compile into a list so long I’d have to add a readmore to this post. Iroh II proceeds to prove he really is Zuko’s grandson and thinks it a good plan to firepunch a bomb, before deciding to take down a whole squad of airplanes by like, figuring out how to fly one as it’s flying and doing some good firebending to destroy the planes, and he somehow manages to make it work.
Azula appears to be the only one in the family who didn’t get the strong version of the “Make Impulsive and Dumb Plans that can Never Work Out but Do Somehow”-gene (thanks to Ursa’s DNA probably) and she still lost, largely because of elements outside of her control. Imagine being the spawn of the family who fosters all of the ‘best’ traits present in the line (resourceful, highly intelligent, physically powerful) and you still lose to the uncle who thought it brilliant to become popular in a city that hates him and the brother whose plans can all be summed up as “fuck around; find out; success”, because you didn’t plan for something that ended up occurring but you couldn’t ever have expected. I, too, would cry.

I know you most likely already realized this, but I was just thinking about Aang as a father in LOK, and realized something. If Katara ended up with Zuko and eventually had children together, Zuko would likely end up being a better father than Aang. Aang never even met his parents, and only had instructors as parental figures. They're like parents but mostly just in the way that a school teacher would be. But Zuko understands what good parents and what bad parents look like because he knows what his own parents are like. His memories of Ursa and Iroh would be his guide to what you SHOULD do for a child, and Ozai is an example of what you should NOT do. Zuko doesn't have the pressure of repopulating firebenders because firebenders aren't virtually extinct, so there wouldn't be as much (if any) pressure to pay unfairly extra attention to one child over the other. Zuko knows what it's like to be neglected by a parent that's supposed to love because of something you can't control. Aang clearly doesn't, hence why he neglected Bumi and Kya II in the first place. Zuko also has experience with Azula, and would know to recognize any bad signs of sibling jealousy and/or hatred, and put an end to it because he knows what bad sibling dynamics look like.
I feel like he would also be a better husband to Katara. He's not as naive as Aang when it comes to marriage; Zuko has the experience of growing up with two married parents, and would know what not to do. Katara would relax better because the distribution over who watches the kids would be more fair, as Zuko would give them ALL attention. While Aang made Katara jealous from always being around the Air Acolytes (in the comics), I feel like Zuko would not give polite attention to women who are rude to Katara/flirting with him because in the show, Zuko knows exactly how hurtful it feels for a romantic partner to flirt with/give polite attention to people who are obviously pursuers. Imagine being in an alternate dimension where Zutara was the main endgame couple, and we get to see their parental dynamics in LoK. There would probably be a flashback of Katara getting worked up about one of their children, and Zuko would ease her into calming down because he sees a solution that she didn't.
Tumblr media
Aang's issues are more than he doesn't know. He is selfish by nature. Selfish parents aren't good parents. I know this for a fact. It's an endless cycle of 'It's your fault' or 'what about how I feel' every time you try to say something. It's not fun, and it's damaging. I can totally see Aang using this behavior as a way to get what he wants. As far as him being naive... yes. He is very naive and doesn't take anything seriously.
Like the war, for instance. He was only there for the last year of it. He wasn't born into the war like Zuko, Katara, Sokka, Toph, and Suki. They aren't naive. They know what war is like. Toph is the same age as Aang, and she is much more mature than he is. He's got this idea that killing anyone is bad, but he is responsible for a lot of deaths. Honestly, he has a kill count from the Fire Nation attack on the NWT, and a lot of people overlook that for some reason. Actually, the show overlooks it because Aang is the Hero, and it's okay if he killed people. So, when all is said and done, all of the things that he does afterward is overlooked too. It's a huge writing flaw with the show. So how does this translate to him as a parent?
It makes him a hypocrite.
Plain and simple.
He's so focused on reviving the Air Nomads that he has little knowledge on what they actually believed. What we are given is a few Taoist, Hindu, and Buddhist proverbs to go off of. Then, it's completely disregarded (disrespected as well) for 'Love'. This 'Love' is actually deep infatuation fueled by jealousy and possessive behavior. Which is actually frowned upon by the three religions mentioned above. It is a 'poison' to the spirit. And disconnects you from being enlightened (I think that is what the proverbs/scriptures are eluding too, if I'm wrong, please do not hesitate to explain, I'm super interested in cultures and eastern religions) or granted a place in Heaven (or their version of it). Letting go of all earthly possessions is common place in most religions. Aang does not do this. But I digress.
So, while there is the Nature vs Nurture aspect of parenting... where Katara does most of the Nurturing because that is how her character is written post-war and LoK. Notice how is said Written. Written by two misogynistic men who stripped her of a lot of her characteristics from the original run of the show. This is the problem. And it's the same with Aang. I can't take him seriously because he doesn't take any of it seriously. Especially with his children. He's not a serious character. He acts like he's serious, but he never really left the 12 year old boy behind to mature. Probably because in his fictional relationship with Katara, she enables him to keep doing what he always does. Which is to not grow. Relationships grow sour when the two people in them do not grow. It's not really about who grew up with parents at that point because it's the current parents that are the ones that should be to blame.
Now on to Headcanon space...
Zutara is a Headcanon ship. Did it almost happen? Oh yes I believe it did because the writing supports it heavily and Bryke's actions post show also scream 'lairs'. Sorry, but I have a pretty good Bullshit metor and Bryke set it off big time by their immature behavior.
But I digress.
Zuko grew up with a Narcissistic Sociopath as a Father and a Mother who was caught in the middle of a choice she was essentially forced to make. Ursa was also forced to forget her own parents never existed after she married Ozai. This is all canon, by the way. Her life before her marriage was great, but then it was taken away so she had nothing left but her morals and beliefs. However, while she loved both of her children, her influence on Zuko is essentially what made him who he is. Ursa didn't get to influence Azula like she did Zuko. Why? Because of Ozai.
Ozai pit his children against each other. This was apparently a Fire Nation Royal Family tradition because it sounds like Azulon did this with Iroh and Ozai as well. This kind of parenting style is abusive to its core. What Ozai did to Zuko isn't neglect... it's straightforward abuse and control. How do you make a child do what you want? You hurt them, or you take something away from them. Ozai both hurt Zuko and took away his home by banishing him. If Zuko wants to go back home, he has to find and capture the Avatar. It's that simple, but at the same time, it's also near impossible.
Flash forward to Canon Zuko and we see he has one child and he is a very loving father. Actually, he's the best father in the show. His experiences with growing up as the not so favorite child has made his choice to have one child easy. Probably because he and his spouse had a less than perfect relationship. This also may have influenced him to be protective of Izumi (as we can see he's still protective over her even at 90 years old) because of the loveless relationship his parents had. It was enough to damage him deeply when it came to relationships. This is likely also why he had trouble with Mai as well.
Headcanon space now...
Zuko loving Katara is what makes the difference here. Love is giving your partner the freedom to make their own choices and support them. As long as there is good communication, trust, and honesty. Something Maiko does not have, by the way. So it stands to reason that even with Nature Vs Nurture in the way of parenting, both win here. I'll tell you why Zuko's relationship with his parents here have no effect on why he would choose to have more children with Katara.
Because if written well, it's a very good relationship between them. We already know they work well as a team. The show gives us this. We know that Zuko absolutely cares about Katara. The show also gives us that. We also know they become lifelong friends. So why do they make great parents?
Because they rely on each other.
It has nothing to do with how they were raised individually, but everything to do with how they support each other narritively. They trust each other to make good decisions together. They rely on being honest with each other. They also communicate with each other. This by itself is the building blocks for a healthy and stable relationship. With that in mind, parenting is easier. There is no need to be afraid of becoming a bad parent because they hold each other accountable. It's a deep relationship. Having multiple children is easier because it is a loving relationship. There's no conflict besides the silly little arguments over simple things that happen all the time. It's just an overall healthy dynamic.
And that is what appeals to Zutarians.
While it was almost canon, I'm glad it isn't because Bryke would definitely not get it right. They tried to make Korra and Mako happen out of spite because they believe Zutara is toxic. It's not. Their children would turn out absolutely fine because Zuko would not change a thing about Katara. It's in the show. He doesn't try to change her because that's not his job. His job in TSR is to let her find closure. He offers it to her because he cares about her. Bottom line.
Anyway, I probably forgot what you said at this point because I just tend to go on and on, but I tried my best to stay on topic... ADHD is both a blessing and a curse.

Bumizumi hc about Iroh II?
Iroh only exists to me in relation with Bumizumi 😔
He was a very unplanned pregnancy if we go the route of Bumi being his dad.
Iroh's father or not, Bumi was always against him being named after Uncle Iroh, because that name would put much pressure on Iroh to live up to his family's expectations.
Iroh is very much a momma's boy. Like he can be found sleeping with head in Izumi's lap at almost all times when he's home/free.
Iroh is a nepo kid in UF hehe which Izumi doesn't mind as much as Bumi does. Loads of fight over it before Bumizumi comprise by not talking about jobs at all with each other. Bumi mostly avoids Iroh at work because they're in different branches lol.
Bumi and Iroh get drunk together often, father-son or mentor-son.
In a case where Bumizumi get together later in life Iroh definitely finds out after walking in on them. Is it traumatising to see your uncle in bed with your mom? Yes. Is it funny? Very

I can nottttt keep up with the fn royals sooo.. how many of them are there? that are actually canon, whether shown or mentioned?
I GET TO INFO POST ABOUT THE FIRE NATION ROYAL FAMILY YAY!!!!
the amount of fire nation royals are actually pretty vague unless you search through the walls of text on the online wiki page. (i love you atla wiki contributors) so i feel like i should just list off the fire lords and their immediate family for convenience
- the first fire lord
Shown in the second Smoke and Shadow comic, no known family, shared power with a council of fire sages, is not named :(
- fire lord yosor
mentioned in The Shadow of Kyoshi, no known family, allies with avatar szeto
- fire lord gonryu
mentioned in The Dawn of Yangchen, no known family, had beef with the Earth King of his time
- fire lord chaeryu
mentioned in The Shadow of Kyoshi, a man whore with multiple lovers, two of them being Sulan and Huazo, also had two sons named Zoryu and Chaejin, his reign was apparently a good time for agriculture
- fire lord zoryu
actually has dialogue in the Kyoshi novels (holy shit), the fire lord directly after chaeryu, had diabolical beef with his brother, and centralized the power in the fire nation
- fire lord taiso
has dialogue in The Reckoning of Roku, the father of zeisan and sozin, husband to hazei, oversaw a growth of industrialization and prosperity in the fire nation, and the outer islands pissed him off to the point he sent the fire navy to sit them the fuck down
-
The fire lords succeeding these ones are otherwise well known, with them being fire lord sozin, fire lord azulon, fire lord ozai, fire lord zuko, and then fire lord izumi. Its also safe to guess that Iroh II would be the fire lord after izumi

Hi mel!! I hope you're doing well and as always love your work 💖💖 if requests are still open, I was thinking hopefully another iroh ii and kya's daughter piece? 🙈🙈 I would love for korra and the gang to meet iroh and his family somehow! ❤️
a/n: for you my dear i would be happy to write about iroh and kya’s daughter 🫶🏼
summary: the family comes together to celebrate Bumi’s birthday
~ based off of these hcs ~
Tumblr media
“Tara, Azula, I better not find little fingerprints in your Great Uncle Bumi’s cake when I get over there,” Kya warns over her shoulder to the two little girls that peer over the table in awe at the perfectly decorated dessert before them. The frosted roses that line the edges are tempting, but the two girls know better than to disobey their grandmother’s words and instead opt to watch the woman prepare another batch of steamed dumplings.
“What are you two troublemakers up to?” A voice teases as strong arms wrap around their figures and hoist them into the air. Delighted squeals escape from their mouths as they meet the loving gaze of their father and are each gifted a kiss to the cheek.
“You better keep an eye on those ones, Iroh,” she jests before removing the cake and setting it away on a higher counter to sit undisturbed. “They’ve been eyeing that cake ever since y/n finished frosting it.”
“Now girls, we wouldn’t want to ruin your mother’s hard work, would we? I promise there will be time for cake later,” he assures the two before carrying them out into the yard where the festivities are taking place.
It’s Commander Bumi’s birthday today, and you and Iroh have graciously offered your home to host his celebration. Family and friends have been invited to partake in the festivities and enjoy the food you and Kya have spent hours preparing. It’s an intimate affair, but Bumi is grateful for each and every person that has come to celebrate.
After setting the girls down and allowing them the chance to run and play with their cousins, Iroh turns his attention towards you and your Uncles that sit admiring the newest addition to the family.
“I couldn’t be prouder to see how wonderful of a mother you are,” Tenzin compliments with a careful smile as he peers down at the babbling infant nestled in your arms.
“You did good, kiddo,” Bumi agrees with an affectionate ruffle to your hair. “He’s absolutely beautiful, a real Bumi if you ask me.”
You laugh softly at the way Tenzin rolls his eyes at his brother’s comment before looking down at your newest bundle of joy. Bumi the Third was born just a few months ago, and you and Iroh were thrilled to welcome your first son into the world. He was beautiful, with your eyes and Iroh’s nose, he was the perfect image of your love.
“General Iroh!” A voice calls, breaking the man from his thoughts and turning his attention to the group of guests that had just arrived.
“Avatar Korra!” He greets with a smile as he meets her and her friends halfway. “It’s so nice to see you all.”
“I hope we’re not terribly late,” Asami says apologetically with a remorseful smile.
“Someone had to stop and use the bathroom on the way here,” Mako retorts in annoyance while casting a judgmental glance towards his brother.
“It’s not my fault I didn’t have to go before we left!” Bolin defends adamantly only for Korra to shake her head and change the course of the conversation before they can embarrass themselves any further.
“Where’s Commander Bumi? We brought him a gift!”
“He was just here, but I think he went inside to check on the food,” Iroh explains before his eyes light up in excitement. Gesturing for the group of young adults to follow, the General leads Korra and her friends towards the guest area. “But there is someone I’d like you to meet.”
You sit alone now with baby Bumi, your Uncles respectively having wandered off to mingle with other guests and leaving you to your own devices. The child is as alert and happy as ever, letting out content coos as he grasps at the fabric of your dress. Noticing your husband approaching with the Avatar and her friends in tow, you’re quick to rise from your seat so you may greet the group.
“Y/n,” Korra greets with a respectful bow and a kind grin, “it’s nice to see you again.”
“It’s been so long since I’ve last seen you all, I’m so happy you’re here,” you agree with a pleasant smile. “It means the world to my Uncle that you all could make it.”
“I brought Korra and her friends over so they could meet the newest addition to our family,” Iroh explains to you with a grin before gesturing towards the newborn in your arms. “Korra, Asami, Mako, Bolin, I’d like you all to meet Bumi the Third.”
“He’s beautiful,” Asami gushes with a delighted smile as she extends a finger towards the baby and lets out a quiet laugh when he immediately latches on.
“You guys had another baby?!” Bolin exclaims in surprise only to earn a nudge to the side from his brother.
“We haven’t seen her in over a year, Bolin,” Mako reminds him before giving the two of you a polite smile. “Congratulations on the new family member.”
“Would you like to hold him?” You ask to an apprehensive Korra.
“Oh, I don’t know if I-“ she begins to protest, but she isn’t able to argue further as you wordlessly nestle your son into her arms. She looks panicked at first, but when he looks up at her with his wide eyes and gifts her a gummy smile, she realizes it isn’t so scary after all. “You’re a cute kid, aren’t you?”
“I call holding him next!” Bolin exclaims only to receive a harsh shush from the Avatar. You hide your laughter behind your hand before melting into Iroh’s side when he wraps a careful arm around your waist.
“Our children are lucky to be part of such a wonderful family,” you sigh wistfully as you watch the group fawn over the infant. It’s nice to know how loved your family is by all that know you and your husband, and you couldn’t be more grateful.
“I couldn’t agree more,” Iroh beams before pressing a kiss to the crown of your head.
How lucky you are to know such a wonderful group of people.

Yes Irosami is an aesthetic ship because they're both hot but also consider that Iroh II has spent his whole life being the child of someone Very Important and the grandchild of The Guy who Saved the Whole-Ass Fire Nation/World and named after HIS bona fide hero and is now the youngest person ever in his career field and also consider that Asami lost her mother and her father and her boyfriend and her cushy life and is alone in the world except for a team that uses her money and her cars and her airships and her intellect and even when she's jump-kicking people off motorcycles she knows she'll never bring what a bender brings and can't even play her favorite sport and then think of the pressure they feel and how much they each must secretly yearn for someone to gently cup their face and whisper that they're loved for who they are and that they are enough and can finally stop proving themselves and rest and just let themselves be held and then imagine that they can do this for each other because they know what it's like. They know.

Dante Basco will return to voice Fire Lord Zuko as an adult in the untitled animated adult Gaang movie coming to theaters on 10.10.2025!
It’s so exciting to be making a casting post for a new project so soon and who it’s for is even more exciting!
Dante Basco, the voice of young Prince Zuko in Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005-2008), is returning to voice adult Fire Lord Zuko in the upcoming untitled animated adult Gaang movie (say that 5 times fast) coming to theaters from Avatar Studios in 2025!
Dante also previously voiced Zuko’s grandson Iroh II in The Legend of Korra (2012-2014), and you may also know him from his iconic role of Rufio in the 1991 movie Hook.
Of course, we didn’t forget about the rest of the Gaang...
A global casting call for Asian & Indigenous voice actors in their 20s is going out to find the adult voices of the Gaang!
Specifically, Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Toph are currently being sought out, with Zuko already being found as we mentioned above, and Dante is officially attached to the movie.
They’re looking for Asian actors for Aang and Toph and Indigenous actors for Katara and Sokka (that’s not an exact quote, just the idea relayed to me), matching the characters’ cultural inspirations and the live-action casting process from across 2021-2022. All the roles are for the 20s age range, which matches up with our exclusive report that the Gaang would be young adults in the movie, and the exact in-universe year the movie takes place in which we’re not allowed to reveal yet.
Speaking of live action, I want to specify again that this is VOICE casting for ANIMATION, separate from the live-action casting for the live-action series. There will be a lot of characters overlapping but as far as I know right now they should be different time periods, for example Dallas Liu was cast as YOUNG Zuko in live-action while Dante Basco was cast as the voice of ADULT Zuko in animation. (Also speaking of them, did you know Dante mentored Dallas on playing Zuko?)
I can already see this getting confusing, so I thought about doing black backgrounds for voice roles or something but I decided against differentiating them too much-- at the end of the day it’s all acting and vital to the creation of the world of Avatar! I settled on putting that “voice role” label on the voice actor’s photo to hopefully avoid confusion because while Dante also visually looks like he could be Zuko, all the voice actors won’t necessarily physically look like their characters (I believe for example they just have to sound like they’re in their 20s, not strictly be in their 20s themselves). We actually already had two voice roles cast: George Takei as Koh and Randall Duk Kim as Wan Shi Tong, both voicing non-humanoid spirits in the live-action series.
Another thing I wanted to mention is that while these casting calls are specifically for the 2025 adult Gaang movie, I presume the actors will be the new voices for the characters at these ages across Avatar Studios’ whole animated universe. Specifically of relevance is the Zuko movie. Right now I have no idea what time period it’s set in, but if it’s also when Zuko and the Gaang are approx. in their 20s then it’s likely it would be the same voice cast!
But yeah, this definitely feels like deja vu. It feels like just yesterday I was posting the live-action casting calls for the young Gaang. 🥹 They grow up so fast... 😂 Jokes aside, I also want to mention ***I DON’T have insider connections for the casting process this time, so don’t ask me where/how to apply or anything like that because I don’t know.***
Today’s news comes from Avatar Studios’ closed casting process via DanielRPK, thank you for the major reveal dude!

Her Falling and Her Legacy *Part 3 ( A ATLA and LOK Imagine)
Been away for so long cuz of college. But I am HERE! and I am not leaving! Part 1/2/
Tumblr media Tumblr media
General Iroh II arrives at the Air Temple and Zuko has a dream.
Ba Sing Se
100 AG
Y/N smiles happily that her mooncakes have come out perfectly. It was the first time she had made them, and she was proud of how they turned out. She even gave them a little dragon design on it, circling a jasmine flower.
She took a careful bite to taste the flavors and smiled.
“Mmh, not bad!” She says to herself and makes a small plate for her and her roommates. She just wished that Zuko would wake up soon.
After Zuko released the Avatar’s flying bison, he became sick.
Iroh said that his aura is changing drastically and was the reason for his illness.
She sighs in worry but puts on a brave face before placing the plate on the kitchen table.
Iroh took one and tasted it. A smile was presented on his face. A clear sign that he was happy by the taste. “Incredible! You have outdone yourself, Y/N.”
“Thank you, Iroh. It’s my first time making these.”
Zuko entered the room and Iroh presented the mooncakes to him.
“Look, nephew, Y/N made mooncakes. Try one!”
Zuko looks at the hopeful gaze on Y/N’s face over his uncle’s shoulder and takes one.
After taking a bite, he hums lightly. “Pretty good.”
“Really?” She asked, worry washed away.
“Yeah. Really good, actually.” He takes another bite.
“Maybe we should add them to the menu of our tea shop.” Iroh suggested.
“Okay, but only I get to make them, I don’t want anyone stealing my recipe.”
“Deal!” Iroh finalizes their ‘business’.
Northern Air Temple
171 AG
Tenzin watched his pupils, yet again, with frustration.
It had weeks, but he still has ye tot manage to shape them into the ideal air nomads that he and his grandfather had dreamed of for as long as he can remember. After the close call with the bison herd from getting stolen by animal traffickers, if Kai and the other airbenders hadn’t interfered, he had expected they would at least become more serious about their training.
He winced as another was hit and out of the spinning paddles.
Not a lot, but at least a little.
He sighed once again and continued to watch until one certain pupil caught his attention.
At least one of them had expected those expectations.
“Don’t just stand there, Rookie! Be the leaf!” Meelo orders her as he pointed at the gates with his chest puffed up.
She looks down at him and then back at the paddle with a steady gaze. She watches as they spin and spin and then something just clicks.
“A leaf. . . I get it.”
She took her position and started moving her feet and walked onto the course, eyes closed.
Tenzin watched in tense, nobody had done it the first time with eyes closed before.
Yet she did the impossible, and moved like Meelo has instructed, like a leaf. But it wasn’t just dodging, it was like she was dancing. Like the leaf, she redirected any impacts that she stumbled upon her way through the grates and let the wind guide her to safety.
She finally arrived at the other side, unharmed and lowers of hands together.
The others looked at her with amazement and envy as whispers broke out.
“Wow.”
“She’s amazing.”
“She makes it look so easy.”
Bai-La was an incredible pupil. The most attentive, the most graceful and hard-working student that he has ever had the closest joy to have.
Other than the poor man that he had to demonstrate to shave, Bai-La was the only one who willingly volunteered to have her hair shaved. Technically, she asked for a half-shaved look to not lose all of her hair. He hesitated, but she was the only one who volunteered.
She passed every test and breathing exercises as well as understanding his lectures and stories, excluding.
If she kept it up, she would be at the same level as his children and Korra.
And . . . another thought had haunted his mind ever since he saw her eyes.
Y/N. The girl who would’ve been the Fire Lady.
Zuko’s first love.
Though he was not sure if it was just a coincidence, Bai-La's eyes and face were the exact copy of the girl who would’ve been his aunt.
Everyone knew the story. How Y/N The Gentle fought and aided future Chief Sokka, his would-be wife, Suki and future Chief of Police Toph to stop Fire Lord Ozai’s invasion.
Only Y/N was sacrificed for the cause.
His mother once told him of how broken Zuko was when he heard of the news of his beloved’s demise, but he had to remain strong as he was the next Fire Lord. He managed to find happiness in Mai, but even she knew that she couldn’t compete with the girl who had stolen her husband’s heart, their respect for each other is unreal.
In fact, the now Fire Lord, name, Izumi was half of Y/N’s name, Y/N Izumi, to honor her in memory.
Which brings him to another situation.
“Alright everyone, that’s enough for today. We’ll continue tomorrow after our morning meditation.”
Most of them sighed in relief and even went on their separate ways in groups or alone. Bai-La jumps done and lands on her feet gracefully.
As she was about to leave, Tenzin stopped her.
“Just a moment Bai. There’s something I want to talk to you about.”
“Yes, Sifu Tenzin?” She looks up at him.
“Follow me.” He says, and they made their way out of the training grounds.
They reached one of many balconies of the temple and he took out an envelope from his robes.
“Here.” He hands it to her. “Letters from your family. I’m sorry I couldn’t keep my promise of bringing them here, but the letter that you sent to them was most helpful.”
Bai-La smiles gratefully and bows to him. “Thank you. These mean more a lot to me than you can think of.” She opens one and immediately begins to read.
Tenzin nods. “I’m glad. . . there is something else that I need to bring up.”
“Yes?” She looks back up at him.
“As you know by now, our situation with the world leaders have been a little. . . strained with the idea of airbenders being back to society.”
“You mean President Raiko?”
Tenzin didn’t reply. “Our first impression was not . . .impressive, per say. Two days from now, General Iroh will come visit by to write a report on our activities and how fair we are doing.”
“You mean spying?” She teases lightly.
“Yes.” He couldn’t help but to comply with her humor. “But General Iroh is a good man. The one he’s working above him, however.”
“No need for more explanations.” She raises her hand to stop him. “But I still have yet to understand what it has to do with me?”
“Well, other than Kai and my brother, you Bai-La have the greatest potential out of all the other airbenders. In fact, you’ve become a sort of prodigy. Which is why I want you to be a representative of the airbenders once the General arrives to build his report.”
“I don’t know what to say.” She says in surprise. “I am . . .”
“Just don’t get it to your head.” Tenzin teases as he places a hand on her shoulder. “You should prepare, the General will be here next week.”
“Yes, and thank you, Sifu Tenzin.” She bows with her fist connected to her palm.
He returns it and they began to walk away until Bai notices something.
“Is that an old oven?”
Tenzin looks over his shoulder and sees a familiar oven that brought up wonderful memories.
“Why yes, the air acolytes use it, but they’re a little old fashion these days. I used to make cakes with my father here once, Bumi did not like them.”
“Were they that bad?”
A secret smile made its way up to the corners of his mouth. “Not exactly.”
“Well, then, can I use it? I would love to make some mooncakes or some sweetbread.” She had sparkles in her eyes as she explained.
Tenzin raises an amused brow. “I don’t see why not. Here, let me show you a recipe my father taught me.”
***
Bumi was happily taking a stroll until something fell from the sky.
His head was suddenly covered in frosting and cake bits. He shouted at the sky in anger, knowing exactly who was responsible.
“TENZINNNNN!”
Tenzin and Bai-La looks down from the balcony and they both laugh. They then bow to each other.
“Your aim is perfect, my bright pupil.”
“Thanks, Sifu Tenzin.”
***
The Fire Nation.
The winds brushed his hair wildly as he stood there in the courtyard where the fountain lay, the exact one from Ba Sing Sae. The one where she took him there by accident.
Cherry blossom petals suddenly fall from the sky. Where did they come from? He doesn’t know.
“Zuko.”
His eyes widened and he slowly turned. The wind blowing through his hair as the owner of the voice that had called out to him was full in his sight.
There she was.
Young and beautiful as he remembered.
Her dress was the one she wore on their first date.
He felt his youth coming back as he suddenly morphs back into the young lad he used to be when they were still together.
He ran to the other side of the fountain, where she was and crashes her into a hug. She let out a giggle as he twirls her around until he settles her back to the ground. Her head burry on his chest as he hugs her.
“I missed you.” He whispers into her hair.
“I missed you, too.” She muffles into his chest.
“This is another dream. Is it?” His tone of content did not waver.
“I’m afraid so.” She confesses. “But it’ll be over soon.”
His hold on her tightened at those words. This dream always ended the same way. He begs her to stay longer, but she always says no.
“Please. Just a little longer. A minute even.”
“You don’t understand, Zuko. It will be over soon.”
He frowns, this was different. He pulls away to look down at her. “What will be over soon?”
She raises a hand to cup his cheek, her thumb caressing the edge of his scar.
This was different too.
But he didn’t care, he leans into the touch and grabs it to kiss the palm of her hand.
“You’ll see.”
He suddenly wakes up.
He sat up and looked at the morning sky from his open window.
It has been days since he arrived at the Fire Nation to protect Izumi. She was reluctant to take the decision, saying that she didn’t need any protection, but he insisted. She has only heard of Zaheer and the Red Lotus, never seen them of what they are capable of.
His hands clutched the silk duvet as he imprinted the words of his first beloved.
It’ll be over soon.
But what did she mean by that?
***
Bai-La sighs as she wipes the sweat on her forehead with the back of her hand after setting the last batch of mooncakes on tray. She smiled at her grandmother’s signature design on the treats as fond memories began to unfold. She looks at the ready mooncakes that were packaged in boxes. At the sight of it, there was enough for a whole fleet. Which was what she was going for.
Ikki was there too, sitting near the baker on a rail of the balcony munching on a cake that Bai had given her. “Mmh! This is the best mooncake I ever tasted.” She pauses. “Don’t tell my mom I said that.”
Bai only smiles. “I’m glad you like them! It’s my grandmother’s recipe, never changed and never left eaten without a single crumb behind.”
Ikki looks at the number of mooncakes. “But why are you making so much? Is there a party? Are we having a party? Is it someone’s birthday?”
“Nope,” Bai answers quickly to cut off any remaining questions that the little girl has. “These are for the Air Acolytes as a thank you for helping us settling in the temple and for the Fleet of the United Republic of Nations as a welcome present.”
Ikki looks at the many boxes. “That’s a lot of mooncakes.”
“Ooh!” Meelo made himself known. “Mooncakes! Score!”
He was about to touch the ones that were already packed but Bai lightly taps his hand with a wooden spoon. “Apbububu- No touchy. Those are for the Air Acolytes and our guests tomorrow.”
Meelo rubs his hand in dismay, but his mood suddenly changed when a plate of mooncakes was in front of his face.
“These however are for airbenders.” Bai smiled.
He gladly takes one and takes a bite. His eyes sparkled as his tastebuds sings his mood. “Whoa! It’s like I’ve been taken to Flavor Heaven!”
He then takes more and more to stuff in his mouth, but Bai pulls that plate away from him as she laughs. “Hey! Save some for the others, Little Sifu.”
Little Sifu was a nickname she had given him since she started her training, Meelo didn’t seem to mind since the word Sifu is being used directly to him.
“Alright, since you two are here. Mind helping give these out till’ dinner time? I’ll put in a good dozen of mooncakes for you once we’re done.”
“You trade in a hard bargain, lady.” Meelo comes by and takes a few boxes with Ikki.
“But the temple is so big. How are we gonna take these to everyone by dinner? I’ll be tired from all the walking.”
“Who says anything about walking?”
Ikki and Meelo shared a look.
***
An air acolyte was done cleaning the windows, when suddenly, he hears the familiar sounds of wind whistles.
Before he could look behind, three figures passed by him, and he felt something in his hands. He looked down and was surprised to see a white box in his hands with a sweet aroma coming from it.
He squinted to the culprit that gave him the box and see Bai-La with the airbending children on air scooters with other boxes balanced on the top of their heads.
“Thanks for your hard work!” Bai shouted.
The air acolyte raises a brow but opens the box, nonetheless, he takes out a mooncake and smiles to where the benders headed before taking a bite.
“Mmh!”
***
Like Bai had hoped, they managed to deliver the mooncakes to every acolyte at the Temple by dinner. Some were surprised but mostly happy by the thoughtful treats.
Everyone finished their meals and the airbenders were surprised by Bai’s mooncakes waiting for them.
“So, this is what the commotion was about within the acolytes.” Tenzin said as he takes one.
“I wanted to thank them for helping us settle in the Air Temple.”
“How thoughtful.” Pema complements as she takes a mooncake as well. She noticed the design and admired it. “What a lovely touch.”
Bai smiled. “Thank you, it’s my gram-gram's signature.”
“These are delicious!”
“I know right!” Ikki was happily eating them.
Bai sat in her seat as she was being thanked and asked for making mooncakes again from airbenders and acolytes alike. One even asked for the recipe, but she shakes her head.
“Sorry guys, family secret. My grandmother would haunt me if shared the recipe from outside of the family.”
The mood in the room changed drastically after hearing the comment.
“Oh, I’m sorry to hear that, Bai.” Tenzin apologizes.
The young woman only smiled and shakes her head again. “It is fine, Master Tenzin, it was a long time ago. . .” She fiddles with something that tied around her neck that Ikki seemed to be the only one to notice.
“What that?”
Bai pulls it up a bit to show it. It was a half pendant that shined brightly in the light.
“It’s an heirloom, it belonged to my grandmother once, before she passed away. “
“Pretty! But where’s the other half?” Ikki tilted her head.
“I don’t know, my grandmother never really explained it to me.”
As Bai tries her best explain the mystery, by mere sight of the necklace, Tenzin was suddenly pulled into flashback, a memory that he had almost forgotten.
When Lord Zuko was telling them the bravery of the only fallen friend during the war.
Y/N the Gentle.
The portrait the Fire Nation Palace displays for her honor was made with as much detail as possible, the beautiful smile and kindness showing in her eyes. But what really stuck to young Tenzin the most was the necklace that the young girl was wearing around her neck.
One that took a similar resemblance to the one that Bai-La has in her hands.
And if he remembered the tales that Iroh had told him when he became older, Lord Zuko had the intension to marry Y/N after they brought peace to the Four Nations. But that promise was taken away from him when Y/N sacrificed herself to save his uncle and Toph Beifong.
He frowns at the sight of the necklace as the possibility ran through his mind.
After dinner, he stood up and announced that he had something to take care of in his study.
Once there, He rummaged through the bookshelf until he found what he was looking for. He opens it and flips through the pages until he stops at a chapter where the first page shows a picture of the same portrait, he’s seen in the Fire Nation Palace. He takes a small magnifying glass from his desk and moves it around the portrait until it stops to the model’s neck.
A pendant around the girl’s neck gave him the clue he needed for his question.
***
Tenzin and the acolyte elders watched as General Iroh’s fleet had docked the port on a blimp. The General himself was walking down the ramp and he saluted.
“Greetings, Tenzin.”
“General Iroh, it is good to see you.”
They shake hands.
“You as well.”
“I’m sorry you have to be put up with this assignment.”
“No trouble at all. It’ll be a short visit, but at least me and my men have a time to relax, away from Republic City.”
“And the President.”
Iroh smirks. “Especially.”
They began to walk and catch up, they have not talked since their ordeal with Unalaq. Once they reached the outskirts of the Temple where they were airbenders training on top of the poles. Iroh and Tenzin, and Iroh’s first mate, who was taking reports and writing them down on a clipboard, watched as they all worked through their training, some have fallen but few have managed to stand their ground on top of the poles.
“As you can see, they have a long way to go until they become proper airbenders.”
He winces as another pupil falls.
“Very long. Also, if you have the time, there’s something that I need to discuss with you.”
“What-” Before Iroh could even finish, a voice call from above.
“Look out!”
One of the pupils jumped with a powerful gush of wind by accident and suddenly fell on the General himself with a loud thud.
“Ow.” Iroh croaks as the pupil gets and apologizes repeatedly and bows many times, knowing who exactly he had dropped on as Iroh turns to his back.
A gasped was heard from above.
Suddenly, a sound of soft wind was heard, and a pair of legs was delicately floating down to the ground with airbending and lands in front of Iroh. He looks up to see that it was a woman close to his age.
The stranger leans and offers her hand.
“Are you alright?”
He took it and almost froze when he looked up and caught her eyes with his own. They were so bright and beautiful.
But his admiration was brief when she tugged his arm up and he snapped out his gaze and stood.
She was a short woman with long hair, yet the side was shaved off, it was styled in a very delicate way as well as edgy.
He clears his throat, remembering his manners. “Thank you.”
She smiled as Tenzin came to her side.
“Iroh, this is Bai La, one of the freed airbending prisoners from Ba Sing Se and finest pupil in the temple.”
“Hello.” She bows. But when she straightens her posture back, she moves her hair away from her face when a breeze passes by.
Iroh then had a look of realization but was able to hide it from the woman before him. A look that Tenzin had predicted.
“I hope you and your men are hungry. The air acolytes and I prepared a welcome dinner in honor of your visit.”
“Yes. Thank you.” Iroh could only answer as his mind was plagued with possibilities because of her face.
“Hey, Bai!” Kai from above calls for her. “I thought we have a bet going on?”
“Coming!” She turns back to the General. “See you at the dining hall.”
She then jumps with the help of airbending to set herself back on top of the poles.
Tenzin finds himself back at Iroh’s side.
“She’s. . .” He hesitated, yet Tenzin knew already what the Crown Prince was going to say.
“Yes. Exactly.”
Iroh had returned from his military training from the Northern Water Tribe. His mother took him on a walk, and they suddenly found themselves in the hall where all his forefathers and mothers portraits hanged, including the heroes of their nation.
His mother, who suddenly stopped at one specific portrait that which she had mentioned was one of her favorites because of the story behind the person’s cause and bravery.
Yet, she had surprised Iroh then with a single sentence.
“You know. . . I used to hate her.”
Iroh’s eyes widened a bit as his mother confesses.
“When your grandmother Mai told me of Y/N, I grew angry at your grandfather, wondering why he could ever disrespect the woman who gave birth to me. Whispering her name in his sleep and she cried every time.”
She closed her eyes and opened them, filled with wisdom, yet despair. “But she explained to me that on the day of Sozin’s Comet, when Y/N was lost, he became a broken man, almost unrecognizable. That’s when I knew that I couldn’t hold on to that anger anymore, especially on a brave woman who gave her life to save the world.”
Iroh places a hand on his mother’s shoulder. “I‘m sorry you had to go through that, mom. It must’ve taken a great deal of strength to accept it.”
She smiles and looks up at him. “Thank you, my son.”
They both continued to look at the portrait. Admiring the woman who could’ve been Fire Lady.
The general continued to watch Bai as she jumps from one pole to another circling with Kai to see who can stay the longest.
“But. . .are we even sure?” He asked.
Tenzin whispers to him. “Look around her neck.”
Iroh squints and sees what Tenzin is referring to watch for. It was a pendant, broken in half. A pendant he was all too familiar with.
“We can’t know for sure. Have you talked to her about this?”
Tenzin looks at Bai with a conflicted gaze. It was clear that she had become his favorite student. He tried to keep all equal feelings for his airbenders but Bai was a kind and bright being that had the potential to become one of the greatest Airbending Masters.
“I just don’t want to overwhelm her.”
“You might now have a choice.” Iroh states in a calming manner. “With things going on at Ba Sing Se and the Red Lotus, there might not be a chance to tell her. Or . . . him.”
Tenzin looks back and watches as Bai laughs to whatever Kai was saying. Lord Zuko was
“No, there might not be.” He sighs. “I’ll arrange a private meeting with her. Will you join us?”
Iroh nods as he continues to gaze Bai. “Of course.”

Announcing Avatar: Year of the Dragon Weekend!!!
Tumblr media
What is Avatar: Year of the Dragon?
Avatar: Year of the Dragon is a fun, casual, very unserious three-day 18+ NSFW shipping event for any Fire Nation or firebending character from the Avatar universe in honor of the Year of the Dragon and the "dragons" in their pants.
When is the event?
February 9-11 to coincide with Lunar New Year on February 10th.
How does it work?
Mods will release some sexy prompts in advance of the date to get your creative juices flowing. Use these to make something steamy with any eligible Avatar character/ship to post on the date. Tag this blog and #avataryearofthedragon and we'll reblog it. That's it!
What counts as a creation?
Anything! Fics, art, playlists, moodboards, screencap edits, headcanons. As long as it's your own work (no AI please) and fits the theme, we'd love to see it.
Who counts as a Fire Nation character?
We're erring on the side of inclusive for this event so that everyone gets to play. As long as your ship involves somebody with some justifiable connection to the Fire Nation or firebending, you're good. Yes, Avatars count as firebenders. Yes, United Republic citizens with Fire Nation heritage count as Fire Nation. Yes, characters you headcanon as being in whole or in part from the Fire Nation count as Fire Nation. Yes, your fanon and OC characters with Fire Nation roots or firebending can be used. And yes, if you have two waterbenders make passionate love on the Fire Nation throne we'll probably sigh, roll our eyes and look the other way as we reblog that, too. Just embrace the spirit of the event and have fun.
Does my content have to be smutty?
This is an 18+ NSFW event run by silly horny people who want to see more silly horny things in fandom. If you want to bring your gen fic in here I guess you can, but why would you?
Do you allow Legend of Korra and characters from the comics?
Sure do. I guarantee you General Iroh II gets laid in this event.
What about WLW ships or characters who don't have a "dragon"?
That's fine! Bring your lovely ladies and let them get it on. All genders welcome. No actual pants dragons need be involved.
What about single characters having some alone time with their "dragon"?
Yes.
What about single characters having some alone time with an actual dragon, like Ran and Shaw or Druk?
OMG just write smut you guys it's not that hard. Dragons can play matchmaker but not be part of the ship unless they're human. No bestiality please.
So do you guys actually have any rules then?
We do!
Don't be a dick. This means ship and let ship, don't like don't read, no kink-shaming, no forcing your headcanons on others, etc. We want this to be fun and positive experience for all.
Like the event says, 18+. This means you and your characters both. Aging up is fine as long as it's stated/tagged. If you have a problem with that, this isn't the event for you.
No incest or non-con. We all love consenting adults here. Background mentions are fine as long as it's not between the main ship. Actual dragons cannot consent, sorry.
Tag accurately and spoiler/label all NSFW content using tumblr's community labels.
Schedule and prompts TBD - stay tuned! Follow this blog for more details soon. Didn't answer your question? Our ask box is open!

iii.
she finds him One day, serving tea, a week after her friends were to retUrn. they fight in angRy whispers and ugly sneers. his uncle perSuades her, with tea on the housE, to hold off on reporting them to the earth king.
iv.
katara never does report them to the earth king, but her reports of missing friends go nowhere. The dai li won't let her out of the city, though she makes an admittedly impressive effort. her house burns down, and zuko swears (honestLy) that it wasn't him. uncle ofFers her shelter (of course he does).
v.
the three of them conspire to escape the city, to find the avatar and her brother and toph. in what zuko swears Is a compLetely unrelated coincidence (not honestly), their house burns down. lee entered the city a singLe man and slips out with papers for himself, a wife, hua mei, and his uncle mushi. he is old enough now to Be head of their little household. the comet is threE years away.
vi.
they wander between villages, hoping for news of the avatar, but the last time anyone had seen him was near the last time katara herself had seen him. she notices new shAdows under zuko's eyes as his old punishment returns to haunt him. worry lines furrow iroh's brow. katara can never quite shake the tension in her shoulDers or the nausEa in her throat.
vii.
they fall into some kind of rhythm on the road, even after ba sing se falls to the fire nation. unCle disappears for days at a time for pai sho and news, leaving lee and hua mei to find work in the villages they pass through. they spend the time alone talking about mothers and fathers and homes and destinies, and lee learns to braid hair.
viii.
word of the avatar travels south from pouhai and they pack up their lives and chase down the rumor but it's a trap, all of it. Azula picked off sOkka and aang and toph, one bY one. she's been waiting for katara. zuko's appearance, she says with a sharp, toothy smile, is an unexpected bonus (and then zuko is looking at katara like lee looks at hua mei but he's standing next to his sister and poised to throw fire at her and katara wants to scream).
ix.
kataRa wanted to fight, bUt her infaNt son stRapped to her back was a liability, and AzUla knew it. she escaped wheN zuko, too eager, fiRed at her, and his fire collided with his sister's already well-aimed blast, and none of them coUld see iN the aftermath; the comet, then, was a year away.

I wonder whart older Zuko is like with Izumi and Iroh II...
(yes this is a plea for more headcanons)
Zuko has a real problem with his daughter and grandson. They don't believe a word he says.
Well, okay, that's an exaggeration, and he'll admit it if you press him. They're actually very attentive and respectful, and are always looking for lessons in what he says, always asking him for advice. One time, just to test them, he tried the 'silver sandwich' speech again, or at least what he could remember of it, and they accepted it with eager nods. He had to persuade them not to have it written down in the Annuls of the Fire Lords.
What they don't believe is that he used to be an imperialist bully who took his anger out on the rest of the world. Oh, sure, they claim that they understand this, but as the discussion goes on they'll talk about how Zuko was raised in a different society where aggression was encouraged and imperialist racism was normal. With low, even voices to convey the seriousness of the matter, they'll talk about the abuse Zuko suffered from his father and what that does to a person, and how fortunate he was that he was able to find his way out from the negative emotions it buried him in. They'll even talk about the war and how children in the Fire Nation were prepared to be warriors and soldiers starting as toddlers.
Izumi, at least, needs these excuses in order not to really think that her father was A Bad Dude at one point. It's not that she's in denial or anything, or can't handle her father making mistakes. To her, Zuko is a doting father, a true and proper simp of a husband, the stiff awkward member of a heartwarming friendgroup, and a righteous leader who complains about corrupt politicians and inefficient meetings like any proper Hero King. Sure, he gets angry like any person, but she just does not have an imagination expansive enough to really picture him betraying Uncle Aang and Aunt Katara under Ba Sing Se. If she really tries, she imagines a confused, regretful look on his face. She just cannot properly meld Her Father with these facts that sound like an antagonist in a children's fantasy story.
With Iroh II, he just does not know his Grandfather well enough. He never saw Zuko in a truly angry moment. He has to picture some kind of noble, knightly figure with a furrowed brow from trying to work out the thorny, contradictory honor system of the old Fire Nation. If you told him that his grandfather once screamed, "I DON'T NEED ANY CALMING TEA!!" he would challenge you an arm-wrestling duel for spreading such filthy lies about a hero.
Zuko has tried to convince Izumi and Iroh that he could have become like Ozai, had it not been for some fortunate interventions in his life, and they nod appropriately, but he can see it's not landing. It's all theory to them, some philosophical stuff about the dichotomy of man. They don't get it. But, he supposes, they don't really need to. Izumi is a master of politics and has a firm grasp of how hazy morality can be sometimes, as well as a good sense of the delicate balance required of the Fire Nation given its power and legacy. If she can't quite believe he was as bad as he was, that's fine. And, he ha to admit, it makes him feel pretty good, that he really has gotten better.
Iroh II, though, is more of a problem. Or, at least, Zuko thinks he is, intellectually. On the practical side, Iroh II has done so well in his life that Zuko isn't sure his grandon needs to understand this stuff. Zuko is a bit worried about how well Iroh II will do as Fire Lord, but he admits that maybe he doesn't really understand his grandson, either.
Especially that part where Iroh II is such a fan of coffee. Zuko is no tea fanatic, and still believes it's basically hot leaf juice, but he thinks that's far more appetizing than hot bean-dirt stew.

So I learned about ati, which (I believe) is basically the concept of people born with the soul of their dead ancestor, and therefore named after him/her (regardless of gender). In-universe examples of ati in ATLA and LOK could be General Bumi II being named after Aang's friend Bumi I, Kya II being named after her grandmother Kya I, and even General Iroh II being named after his grandfather's uncle Iroh I.
BUT, I wondered, if all Avatars are reincarntions of Avatar Wan and are connected by Raava, does that mean the Avatar has his/her own ati? I headcanon that Water Tribe Avatars were still named after their deceased relative at birth (since their parents don't know their child is the Avatar yet) until they are identified as the Avatar (usually at 16). Then, the Avatar is given a new name unique to him/her, as not only does he/she have his/her own ati, but the new name is used to signify this new stage that would change their life forever. I imagined that the NWT and the SWT have both declared it illegal to name a Water Tribe child after a Water Tribe Avatar to respect their ati. This is why you wouldn't, say, find a single person in the NWT named Kuruk, or a single person in the SWT named Korra, other than the Avatars themselves.
I just want to know your thoughts on this headcanon I made.
Okay first off: i need to correct something here. The atiq is not necessarily an ancestor, just someone in the same community who has died. Your atiq can be related to you and it's pretty common that they are, but it's not always the case. (Also this is entirely stylistic preference, but the singular they is a lot more efficient than he/she either/or style pronouns. Not only is it faster to write but it's much easier to read, especially in a longer ask like this, includes those who don't use he or she pronouns, and doesn't put one gender before another. Just putting that out there.)
Second, yes, the atiq is a past life of a kind and your are considered a continuation of your atiq, but it's not your only identity. You are them, but you are also you. I could get into Inupiaq Christianity, in which the belief is your atiq simultaneously lives on through you and enjoys a peaceful afterlife just to underline this multifaceted sort "different versions, all true" approach to the nature of the soul and identity, but Inupiaq Christianity is it's own big topic and I'm not prepared to get into it.
So I'd say the concepts of having an atiq and being an avatar are not inherently the same or mutually exclusive, especially given how the series tends to play fast and loose with the idea of being an avatar. I think both can be true. Mostly because my culture's traditional spirituality, one i practice, which believes in the concept of atiq also holds the belief that just because there are two opposing concepts, that doesn't mean one of them is wrong.

Do you think Izumi would be a mommy’s girl or a daddy’s girl?
she’s a daddy girls to the present. I already posted a hc about this but like Izumi would the type to ditch her mom who’s playing with to just so she can be with her dad while she reads through paper work.
she is close with her mom but like not close like she is with her father. It was zuko who sneaked her extra fruittart after dinner after mai said she can’t have extras:
When Izumi was a baby her first words were mama but as soon as she figured how to say ‘dada’ it was her favorite word.
Toddler Izumi would be throwing a tantrum, kicking and screaming but as soon as her father walks through those doors, his arms widening she would run to him smiling through her tears and hug into his warm embrace.
this doesn’t really mean Izumi was close with her mother, Mai was the first to know about Izumi’s crush and boyfriends cuz Izumi was very much aware the moment she told her dad she had a crush/boyfriend, katara and aang would lose their eldest child.
mai was there as Izumi was preparing for iroh ii, from helping her out with the morning sickness to the birth (the guy Izumi married was a douche, she divorced him after she had enough)

I hope you are resting and feel better soon.
I remember reading an early draft that Iroh II doesn’t remember much of his dad other than the arguing, and his mother crying and apologizing to him. If that’s still the same for the new details, does Iroh tentatively ask his grandfather, grandmother or any of his family members why his mother is sad?
I hope you feel better. Rest well.
AGH i am not feeling better but thank you😔
TW: ABUSE
ok so here's the thing— most of what i wrote about that has changed as ive worked and developed Izumi as a character. i can still answer that question but we need to know the new stuff
so for starters i think Iroh wouldn't really remember almost anything because his father was around from ages 0 to 4, so like. not really able to remember much, and even if he could remember, there wouldn't be much to remember because if there was anything Izumi and Isao agreed on was not letting Iroh get involved in their dynamic, which sometimes turned out to be violent. of course Isao used Iroh but he wouldn't hurt him; he couldn't have him be afraid of him while Izumi just wanted to shelter him from everything
the only memories that he has are:
Isao slamming Izumi against a wall (like in the "I'm that cunt" scene in gone girl) which wasn't intended for him to see, he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time
not seeing him anywhere when his sister was born
panicking (as in screaming and crying) because his father forced him to leave the palace with him, without warning or explanation, in the middle of the night
as a teen, he started wondering more and more, but Izumi never went into too much detail, and it was evident she hated talking about him, so he never pushed. everyone else managed to fill the gaps, not entirely but enough, and he learned that the violence was a normal occurrence, that he hadn't been at his sister's birth, and that that one night he was being kidnapped
as an adult, he and his mother finally had a heart-to-heart and they finally talked about that period. and he was given more context on what he remembered: Izumi was willing and prepared to kill him as much as he was; he wasn't there when Ursa was born because cheated and the child of that affair was born the exact same day. when he was kidnapped, it was because the opportunity to end things with that man had presented itself, and in desperation, Isao had burned Izumi's shoulder and taken his son. those who came to his rescue were actually Mai, Ty Lee and Azula, while Zuko stayed with his daughter, who was absolutely distraught

Decided to think up some headcanons for the Air Kids:
Jinora continues to work with the new generation of airbenders. She’s an excellent teacher/mentor to them. Like her father, she’s determined to spend her life rebuilding their nation piece by piece. She even helps oversee the reconstruction of the Northern Air Temple, and occasionally acts as Korra’s spiritual adviser.
Ikki has very little interest in the traditional lifestyle of the Air Nomads. She wants to see the world like her Aunt Kya did, and maybe fall in love too. So when she turns eighteen, she leaves. This causes a big fight with her father, but she doesn’t care, she’s ready to live her life her own way. Eventually Pema talks Tenzin down and they part in good faith. Ikki develops a very strong friendship with Asami. The two of them meet up for lunch as often as they can.
In a way, Ikki’s departure inspires Meelo to join the UF. It’s his life-long dream, but he was a little hesitant as he got older, because he knew that Tenzin wouldn’t take it well. Sure enough, the day he announces his enlistment ends in a huge fight. Both men say things that they later regret and they go nearly a decade without speaking to each other. Iroh II promises Tenzin that he’ll watch over Meelo while he’s in the service, and personally ensures that Meelo is put under his command.
Rohan isn’t really sure if he wants to fully commit to being part of the Air Nomads like Jinora, or if he wants to leave like Ikki and Meelo. He likes to help people, and is constantly signing up to go on humanitarian missions. He’s also very close to Korra and the two of them train together often.
