Idea for a tv show that only works if it’s a tv show. The first season: it’s set up like any typical crime show, doesn’t matter what level of law enforcement, just that the main storylines of episodes weave between the cases and LEOs’ lives, nothing too unusual, but maybe a few of them have family members who work in the legal system (magistrates, public defenders, juvenile advocates, etc.). The trailer and all the episodes, at least at first, present the show as a pretty typical crime show. Then you hit the midseason finale, and the trailer for 1b is the vaguest video you’ve ever watched in your life. You’re curious, so you turn into the midseason premiere, and you’re hit with wall to wall legal cases, instead of the investigations of 1a. But the characters are all from the pilot episode, including the offender, witnesses, investigative officers, and one (or more) of that family members who work in the legal system. Basically, the show brought back characters from the pilot so that you could watch the trial play out, months after you first met the characters. And sure, some irl trials take longer to get to on the docket than others (years as opposed to months), but we’re going for a basic timing effect here. You’re an audience member, but you’re experiencing the trial as if you were involved in the investigation or the crime yourself. You may not have spent months thinking about the outcome of a trial (at in season 1, bc let’s face it, this show would be ground zero for some HARDCORE parasocial relationships), but you’re still caught up in the reminders of that time period in the show and in real life, just on a smaller scale than the characters.

SVU (and probably other shows in the L&O universe, I’ve never seen them though) do something similar where the second half of the same episode is the trial part of the case, but I think it would be really cool to have the case play out across an actual reasonable timeline irl too! And if the show were renewed, people would likely assume the second half of the second season would do the same thing, and would be waiting for the trial of offenders or victims they liked in particular. Just think about the Twitter (and hellsite) chaos this would bring, there would be people talking about the cases and trials like they’re real, trying to argue for the prosecution, or come up with the defense’s playbook. And if we really wanted a plot twist, there would be a case every season where the defendant really IS not guilty (and I don’t just mean in a “the prosecution couldn’t stick the landing,” I mean, don’t get too up in arms over the LEOs being the best at their fictional jobs, because they’re getting the wrong person for a crime once a season, and the audience is actually going to see it! There’s so little of that in the world, where the show tells the audience that yeah, the LEOs WERE wrong, and real criminal might get away with it! Could go either way after that, another investigative episode for the same case in the next season (with matching episode numbers with the original case episode, of course), or absolutely nothing else about the case, because sometimes, the ambiguity is what makes the story so compelling. Argue it over online!

How would you ever know whats true?

I wish you would write a fic where Rafael (or another Raul character) has a secret S/O and everyone ends up finding out in some weird way (or specifically Rafael his S/O gets threatened by a stalker and he has to tell Olivia) or something and everyone sees that he is a teddy bear with her but an ass to everyone else

You'd both been running late that morning, Rafael leaving just before you, everything forgotten apart from his phone. A quick call to his office told you he'd be at the precinct all morning working a case with the detectives, that was on the way to your job, so you'd just make a stop, maybe text him to meet you in the lobby.

Grabbing everything you needed, you made your way to the 16th precinct. Once there though you figured he must be in the middle of something since he hadn't responded to you text, so you rode the elevator up to the right floor.

"Can I help you ma'am?" The officer on the outside of the elevator asked.

"I'm looking for ADA Rafael Barba, I was told he'd be here."

He gave you a look before telling you to follow him.

It took about 2 minutes before he was in the bullpen, surprise on his face when he saw you.

"Amor--what are you doing here?" He moved to you, giving you a small kiss and a hug.

"You forgot everything this morning." You responded with a chuckle.

Offering his briefcase and the bag with lunch you had picked up on the way to him, you looked back up at him, his face softening as he gave a small thanks.

"I'd be lost without you."

You were in your own little bubble until someone cleared their throat, making you both turn to face the group of shocked detectives.

"Who are you?" You guessed she was Olivia Benson, Rafael's close friend, and the boss at SVU.

"I'm Dr. y/n y/l/n--Rafael's girlfriend."

Keeping the relationship a secret had been his idea, not cause he was ashamed, but because he was worried for your safety with the kinds of people he put away.

"What kind of doctor are you?" The blonde-haired detective, Amanda Rollins you guessed, asked.

"Psychologist." You explained, a hand wrapped around Rafael's waist.

"Can we not play 20 questions with my girlfriend please--You should be at work by now amor." A smile reserved only for you appeared on his lips when he turned to look at you.

And you returned it, leaning up to kiss his cheek, "it's okay, it's not far from here, and one of my clients didn't show up for their appointment, so I've got a chill morning."

Regardless you said your goodbyes, and as you made your way back to the elevator you could hear them hound him with questions, making you smile to yourself.

ooft, okay. there's probably more than this but the following have major character death warnings that could very well be classed as angsty lmao:

i wrote this little ficlet: Gone (SVU, bensler/EO) in which a raid goes wrong and it's just pain from start to finish and then there's Until Long After She Takes Her Final Breath which is a Good Girls/brio fic in which their reunion at the beginning of season 3 goes very differently.

Why don't we go to Venus? is another Good Girls/brio fic in which the summary is: Rio killed her and that was supposed to be the end of it but Beth doesn’t seem to be done with him quite yet.

that one is probably my angstiest overall but the ending is probably the least angsty bit about it??? haha

honestly? i have no idea and i have no clue how to check 😭😂

8. Do you get hate on fics?

there was someone going around the SVU/OC fandom leaving weird hate comments on people's stuff (anonymously) and i got one but while it felt rude, it didn't feel like hate, but also it felt like it was supposed to be hateful, y'know? pretty sure i just deleted it though (i for sure ignored it) 😂

but generally, no. i'm lucky to say that i tend to avoid hate on social media and that includes fanfiction.

i have done and the variety isn't huge but it's there? i guess?

i have done! beyond the obvious (where shows, etc share worlds), i did a boondock saints/the walking dead one (which was also co-written) because norman reedus stars in both 😂

yes! the aforemention boondock saints/the walking dead fic was co-written on ff.net and i co-wrote (with the same person), a fast and furious fic.

14. What’s your all time favourite ship?

i lost myself a ton in writing olivia/elliot from svu/organized crime as well as beth/rio from good girls so they'd probably battle it out for top spot.

BUT

if i'm being brutally honest, my all time favourite ever to write were fast and furious ships 😂 especially the OGs (specifically vince and leon) with my OCs (although there were canon ships i loved to write too!). it was just so fun and freeing and i constantly think about it.

(i also loved when i wrote random marvel/mcu pairings, winterwitch was probably my number one for them and again, i think about it a lot)

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

i think it's unlikely i'll finish a lot but especially a degree of separation. i kind of hate it, i'm so sorry 😭😭😭

16. What are your writing strengths?

the thought of analysing my own writing right now sounds painful but two of the most common nice things people tell me is that: 1) they like how i write dialogue and 2) they like my writing style in general

Nowadays not really any, lmao, but BACK IN THE DAY I was obviously primarily an ASOIAF writer, but I've also written for Harry Potter, Law and Order SVU, Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Taken, and American Horror Story. And I loooooove talking about those fandoms that I write less frequently about so feel free if anyone had any questions, I would lap that shit right up.

5. Do you respond to comments?

I was/am good at responding when a fic is newly posted but I'm not very good at it now, which is a shame on me because I still read and love every comment and I think people who take the time to leave comments on fics that are years old are super super rad. Usually I see it and get all giddy and then forget to respond and then feel weird responding much later, which is silly of me. I don't get a ton of comments anymore but I'm going to try and be better about answering because I do appreciate them!

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Definitely Measures, that one is just an angst fest in general. Or hmm, A Myth of Devotion is a close second.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Aahahaha this is just making me realize how death is involved in like...all of my fics? So maybe Rivers and Roads since Ned and Cat get to be together at the end, despite the DEATH AND WAR around them? Or maybe that my lips would build a castle which finds Jon and Sansa together in Winterfell despite all the DEATH AND WAR THAT WAS AROUND THEM. Or maybe Wedding Bell Blues which is a fun modern AU despite the fact that Lyanna is unhappy in it. What can I say, I enjoy my angst.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not a lot, although I did just recently get someone angry that I tagged Ned/Ashara in 'Wedding Bell Blues', and honestly they weren't completely wrong but they were so obnoxious about it that the tag is staying there out of spite. And of course I used to get the requisite Catelyn hate but even that was pretty few and far between. My stuff is usually what it says on the tin and AO3 is a little bit more self selecting than other sites of the past.

9. Do you write smut?

Awwwww yis especially SMUT WITH FEELINGS.

10. Craziest crossover:

I'm not really a crossover babe, alas.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Yes, someone took 'Measures' and basically rewrote it word-for-word as a Downton Abbey fic and someone recognized it as my work (...actually was it you, @meduseld??) and brought it to my attention. Lmao also back when I was on a Desperate Housewives livejournal (BACK IN THE DAYS) I had a couple of ESL writers take parts of my fics and use them in theirs and the mod of the LJ community got SO MAD at me when I was like "...hey please don't do that!" But the incident with 'Measures' was definitely the most blatant.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes, and I think it's very cool! I would never attempt to translate it back though lol. But it is very touching to me that someone would like my work enough to want to take the time to translate it so others can enjoy it. I'm always fine with it as long as proper credit is given. I have also had a podfic done on a Lyanna comment fic and that was also extremely cool! The person who did that had a lovely reading voice. =)

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Not a published fic but I've done roleplay-y writing with a few friends before which was always fun!

14. All time favorite ship?

I don't know if I've penned more words, thought more thoughts, spent more time for any other ship more than Ned/Cat. <3 A close second to Elliot/Olivia in Law and Order SVU for goddamn longevity though. Still dragging me along, twenty years later.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Sadly I doubt I'll ever finish 'these are hard times for dreamers' because back in 2019 I only had the vaguest idea of where I wanted to go next and that has only gotten worse with time. I have also had a Lynesse fic half-written on my computer for probably like...five years at this point, BUT I think that's more likely to get finished at SOME point just because it is already around 4k words. But who knows WHEN.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Character work, especially internal thoughts, setting a mood/scene, etc.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Action scenes, getting from point A to point B to point C, especially concisely versus needing ten thousand words. I also think my dialogue is hit or miss, especially in a longer back-and-forth conversation.

18. Thoughts on dialogue in another language?

I'll reference it if need be but usually try and avoid because I don't speak any other language fluently and don't want to make any foolish mistakes.

19. First fandom you wrote in?

Lmao SAILOR MOON (Geocities 5ever) and also I wrote some Pokemon stuff. I'm not even a little sorry.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

I think it's 'we're men of snow (we melt one day)' which makes it especially gratifying that it is my most popular. There are still bits I would clean up if I were rewriting it but on the whole I'm so pleased with how it turned out and it was also really nice that it was a gift for a friend for FandomAid (@catelyngrant) who gave me pretty free reign to do whatever I wanted. So I'm glad I was able to deliver something that I'm very happy with because she deserves it! I am also very partial to my Lysa Heroine Big Bang fic, 'The Girl in the Mirror'. I love writing Lysa and this was the most complete thing I ever wrote about her, and I loved getting to flesh out her backstory. Much as it is super fun to play in the AU sandbox, it is also a ton of fun to examine a part of canon that is left uncovered in the source material. I like reading it! I think it adds to the atmosphere of the story, but I don't think I've ever done it myself except to copy and paste the German dialogue from Triangle😅

Lord of the Rings, I wrote a sequel featuring Aragorn and Arwen's daughter and posted it on Instagram back when I was active in the Tolkien fandom circa 2015 (posting fic on instragram probably sound super weird lmao but it was what people did, they'd post a pic corresponding to the fic and the chapter went in the captions)

Yes, I try to! It means so much when someone takes the time to comment on something I’ve written and I like to acknowledge that. Plus I’ve made some really good friends through conversations that started via fic comments (I think the formats of LJ and Tumblr were/are better for getting conversations going than Ao3, though). I don’t always reply to every single comment because, y’know, life etc, but I do try :)

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Mostly I cannot resist writing a happy ending, even if there perhaps shouldn’t be one, so I don’t have too many angsty endings. The Glassblower, maybe. That one is open to interpretation.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Maaaaybe Tango in the Night? Or bedtime story.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not so far!

I have a couple of Madam Secretary fics on ff.net that I think are resigned to eternal incomplete status.

Fakin’ it ‘til I make it.

I can be repetitive with language and word choice and theme/plot. I think my smut could be better. I overuse particular pieces of punctuation (currently em-dashes, previously semicolons). Not finishing all my WIPs. Writing definitively happy endings when something more ambiguous might be better (see above). Imposter syndrome.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Words or phrases, sure. But I am not sufficiently fluent to attempt anything more ambitious. Add that to my list of weaknesses!

M*A*S*H. Those stories are, uh, no longer available.

Some of my favourites are actually a couple of my least popular, kudos-wise – they’re ones I wrote to scratch very specific, weird itches and I really like how they turned out - how to raise the dead and The Glassblower. I also am quite proud of Testimony.

Are you telling me there’s people out there that consider all too well romantic????! Have they even listened to the song????? Payed attention to the lyrics???

Also I haven’t watch the movie about the gay prince and his bf (I just remember it’s something with blue and royal), but how can someone think he’s STRAIGHT???!!! just how???? He’s canonically GAY!!! I saw the movie in Prime’s catalogue and it was clearly tagged LGBT and also ROMANCE!!!

I’m speechless with both situations

lol last night was something else. i think what that person was attempting to say abt firstprince/henry is that to relate to/enjoy the relationship or character they have to pretend they're a heterosexual relationship overall which is weird and insulting to me and kinda took me by suprise bc firstprince isn't fetishized the way a lot of m/m relationships are sometimes.

and yeah i see a lot of all too well fan vids esp, but if i'm thinking of my ships to all too well at least it's me enjoying them being toxic (like elliot and olivia from svu!!)
