international kpop fans not understanding why the first snow has been receiving so much attention in korea the past few winters is mostly due to the fact that they don't read korean comments and because they joined kpop in 2018 or later

the first snow, the xoxo album and even love me right receive so much attention by k-audiences because that period of exo is very nostalgic too many ppl.

many ppl who stream the song now, 10 years after release, were in middle or high school when it was first released. the song reminds them of a different time, when they were younger.

in that 2013-2015 period there was 1 super popular boygroup (among the young bgs) who got most of the attention, exo. (at the time exo's "competition" were the big seniors, not the ppl who debuted around the same time they did.)

(2016/2017 was the hight of EBS (exo, bangtan and seventeen).

if you read korean comments about the first snow, the xoxo album or love me right, you'll find many koreans who say "exo, my youth" and other things of that nature. the love that old and ex-exols in korea have for peter pan and don't go, is a love that doesn't exist to that degree among international exols (at least not for peter pan. international exols didn't speak too much about don't go in the first few years until it was performed with choreo during the exoluxion concert in 2015).

people newer to kpop love to joke that "exols are stuck in 2013" but trust me, it's old casual and ex kfans who keep that period of exo's career relevant. in the case of many international exols xoxo isn't even in their top 3 of exo albums.

exo at this point in their career also has quite a few fans who don't even know that period of exo.

the people streaming the first snow are a bunch of people who are very nostalgic.

the first snow isn't even in the top 5 of best winter songs exo has.

Happy STS! Which of your characters do you think would be most popular among cosplayers? If you had to pick one of your OCs to cosplay, who would it be?

So, I loooove cosplay as an art form/means of having fun! I used to do it more when I was younger, and I still dress up for cons/fan themed events. I also follow a lot of cosplay content online. I must admit that I think about the cosplay-ability of my characters a LOT. Like, every author wants a screen adaptation/a fully VA'd audiobook/whatever, but I specifically want silly creative ppl on the internet to dress up as my lads!!

That being said, I have many opinions on this front.

Taking a broad look at the Heart of Lead universe, I think it would offer a lot of different options to cosplayers. I could see the extended cast catering to people of all skill levels and interests, at least in terms of character design. You got regular-ass humans with one or two defining physical traits (although someone could always go in for more detail, because of the Victorian-fantasy clothes)! You also got characters with A.) complicated armor/uniforms/gowns, B.) wings/fangs/assorted fantastical traits, and C.) like,,, props?? Like there is a very large, somewhat evil sentient sword in this universe, and I would die happy if someone made their own for cosplay purposes. I would DIE.

All that in mind, here are the characters I think would be the most popular to cosplay, based on my observations of present-day cosplay communities online. I've given all them "most ___" awards, for funsies.

Dale Porter – most popular. No contest whatsoever. Sarcastic, evil, conventionally attractive white man. People love to cosplay characters with this profile; it's inescapable, and somewhat obnoxious. He's also fairly easy to cosplay, I would argue, as long as u got a white wig. (I would not personally cosplay him. He is my pookie but he can go ROT.)

Rosalind Lake – most sexy. If you want to wear an ostentatious dress and look hot in a femme way, here ya go. She's not the most important character, but her look is distinctive and fun. (I would definitely cosplay Rosalind.)

Wren Dorian – most steampunk. Listen, if you love steampunk/gaslamp fantasy/cabaret rock aesthetics, she is your GIRL. Big curly hair, big boots, massive belt full of tools, potentially goggles if you're feeling really fancy. Wren also gets some interesting design variations throughout the series that make her even cooler. (I would cosplay Wren. I have closet-cosplayed her before.)

Nicolas – most edgy. At least, that's how I think people would cosplay him. He wears a black trench coat and fingerless gloves for like half of the series; he has emo boy hair; he lowkey looks like Dream of the Endless. I'm not going to spoil his magical abilities, which make him EVEN EDGIER, but those exist, and they also impact his physical appearance. He's a sweetie boy baby who cries a whole lot, but he LOOKS very cool to one's inner 13-year-old. (I would cosplay Nicolas, and I have closet-cosplayed him before!)

Vesper – most fantasy. They're a faerie. He has wings. Their magic turns their eyes and fingers black. He wears sickass gender-nonconforming outfits, including such articles as capes and tiaras. If I was actually going to pour tens of hours into creating a cosplay from the HoL universe, I would 100% cosplay Vesper. They look cool as hell. (Also, fun personality – he's very outgoing and sweet!)

I'll leave it there for now, but I genuinely have SO many more opinions about HoL cosplay potentiality. There are options for the ppl who only cosplay evil dilfs,,,, for ppl who like to play princess dress-up,,,,, for ppl who incorporate gore and horror elements into their cosplays,,,,, we've got it all!!

(Now to get about FINISHING and PUBLISHING these books, so ppl can feasibly do this. Lmao.)

Do you have any tips on how to get a job? Cause I don't know where too look me it has the bw within a walking distance and if no jobs are hiring within this walking distance I won't be able to work

I'm still in highschool (but I'm 18) and I wasn't able to get a job over last summer (had to babysit and I had rehearsals for a musical I was in for my theater)

However I do have some tips! So basically I have crippling anxiety and before I got on meds I wasn’t really able to go out of the house much and when I needed to look for a job it had to be within the distance of my house

So where I live even though jobs aren’t hiring they have an option to send in an application if you want to be contacted when there’s a position open! It won’t be shown on recruiting sites you have to go to the shops/ restaurants etc own website to find that option! The chance isn’t huge that you’ll be contacted but there’s still a chance !

Another thing you can do if you feel comfortable is to ask shops and what not if they’re hiring and when they say no you can just ask when there might be positions open sometimes they say it themselves

I know Facebook isn’t that popular among us younger people but Facebook has groups full of ppl who are offering and searching jobs so like I’m part of a group that’s called “jobs in (city name)___\” usually managers will go there first rather than use recruiting site to save money on advertisements so legitimate shops etc will put an ad there for jobs

I know jobs aren’t hiring now because of the holidays but I’d go job hunting as soon as the holidays have passed!

I also know my neighborhood like the place I live on has a group on fb and 15,16,17 years old will be like anyone need a dog walker etc

and again, this is NOT and NEVER WAS a critique on yuzuru. he is AMAZING, as a skater and as an individual. this is a critique on how these ppl will only care for asian people when they are attractive to them. if you can't fetishize them, they won't care for them at best, and despise them at worst.

the poets but aussie and lifeguards

todd is a transfer lifeguard from a place further north and the newest there ! he's the sweet but shy lifeguard and that, unfortunately for him, attracts him a lot of attention.

he's the only one that children will talk to when they're lost. lost children love him sm and he just ends up with a lil kid on his hip until they can find any parents. on one occasion, a child bit knox when he tried to give poor todd's arms a break.

for minor injuries or stings, he's pretty good for them. todd's just kind of got that comforting (nervous) energy that soothes ppl when he does first aid.

he's also one of the strongest swimmers bc he's from an area with stronger currents and waves !

neil is one of the favourite lifeguards, he's always smiling and checking up with ppl and everyone loves him. him and charlie started a long time ago and they're still going strong as a loveable duo.

he's probably the best surfer out of the poets and loves to put on shows for the public while he's on break, and he also does the most surfboard rescues.

ppl tend to go up to him for help with directions or to report anything bc he's very approachable and has a smile most of the time.

cameron is known for most frequently working in the tower, he uses the goggles and scans the beach or takes any calls. he's more strict but is definitely able to make a joke when it's needed.

to be honest, they would all be left for dead without cam bc he's constantly at work in the tower, and ready at the radio at a moments notice. he calls the police or paramedics in more serious cases.

cam is also the person to go to for first aid and handles both non-serious (when todd is busy) and serious cases in the tower after he calls in emergencies.

he also loves marine biology and somehow it lead him here, so he loves anything to do with the animals in the water.

charlie is one of the oldest lifeguards and definitely among the most popular, he's funny and charming ! he loves swimming and the jet-ski more than anything.

he's most commonly doing patrol or going out on the jet-ski but it's honestly more usual to find him with his feet up in the tower, flirting messing with cameron.

he's known for being the mastermind behind most of the pranks and he spares no one.

meeks is probably one of the most chill lifeguards but always quick on his feet, he spends his time either repairing any equipment or helping out cameron in the watchtower.

he's helpful as well due to his varied language skills so anyone that is struggling with their english can usually be directed to him.

he and pitts use their radios constantly, even when they are in the same room and it drives cam up the walls he hates it sm.

meeks also shares cameron's love of marine life so when they're chilling inside there's a constant stream if chatter apparently.

pitts is more of an awkward lifeguard, known for his banter on the radio and his love for surfing ! he occasionally teaches younger kids or inexperienced surfers when he has free time but he's overall rlly dedicated.

he's most commonly found on the buggy patrolling and ready at a moments notice. he's quiet however, and won't rlly go up to ppl until they go to him.

he likes to chat w todd (when children drag him along to the surfing class) and they're both rlly chill together.

he's the best w coffee runs and the poets would be dead without him

knox is known as the worst flirt ever known to lifeguards, and he won't hesitate to flirt with girls (and occasionally guys) when he's not doing anything.

he had a "thing" for one of the volunteer lifeguards, chris, when she was volunteering one summer but she rejected him enough times that they're just strictly platonic friends and occasionally go surfing together.

overall, he's himbo. he's definitely trying his best and he's pretty harmless but it's always entertaining for the other lifeguards when they see him trying and failing to flirt with beach goers.

he might also get pretty excited to challenge chris' ex boyfriend, chet, to a race or catching the bigger waves whenever he shows up.

mr keating is the oldest lifeguard there and he's meant to be retired by now but he's here to supervise. him and cameron man the tower together.

he's team dad and they boys would all die for him. he's the supportive figure for them but can and will keep them in shape ! he's the bane of todd's existence as he constantly makes him do drills (and the boys love it bc they get time off to watch)

I've always felt like there should be an upper age limit to be able to take office as president or even voting (though that one probably not as much) because let's be real, anyone who's in the last decade of their life does not have as much a vested interest in keeping the country/the earth going as a younger person with multiple decades left to live in said country. Idk. Just smth I think about when I see both our presidential candidates being so fucking old that we talk about what would happen if they were to die in presidency or if they have onset of like degenerative brain disease. Ik some ppl say that older age = wisdom and experience but like I think that being in an age group that can actually relate to most of the population is very important. Opinions?

I don’t have a strong view on this issue, so I find your points interesting and worth thinking more about. Some thoughts I have:

On one hand, everything you said is intuitive. Older people don’t have a long-term stake in politics. Older politicians won’t be alive to see the repercussions of their actions. Politicians who are experiencing a disease that impairs their thought-process and rational thought is also a legitimate concern. 

However, I think there are several slippery slopes. First, and perhaps the most obvious, is age discrimination. While there are many occupations where a mandatory retirement age exists, it is often difficult to justify that if it doesn’t pertain to physical ability. In Congress, of course that’s not very necessary. The mental fitness argument is fair, but that doesn’t only pertain to older politicians - it should pertain to all of them equally.

Second, I think it’s very easy for young people, including myself, to label older Americans as out-of-touch conservatives. On average, they are. But just as there are exceptions to young people being progressive, there are also exemptions to older Americans being conservative. Take Bernie Sanders for example. I bring him up because politicians are elected for their platform and the message they bring to the table. Despite Bernie’s age, he was unequivocally the most popular presidential candidate in both 2016 and 2020 among young Americans. What do we make of politicians like him in this discussion? By all means, if you can find me a candidate with the exact same message and platform as him, I’d probably choose the younger candidate due to the lower chance that they would suffer from age-related health problems. But when that young alternative candidate doesn’t run, should we not be allowed to vote for the older candidate simply because of their age?

I think a more appropriate topic to discuss is term limits. This prevents politicians from getting into office and remaining so long because the system that brought them in and kept them there is rigged in their favor. This forces change and demands that incumbents listen to their constituents’ views.

Jaehyun doesnt hate jungwoo, he just doesnt like the image jungwoo goes for on camera. Jungwoo came late and got alot of hate from the kfandom and even ifandom for taking away winwin's place in 127. He needed a personality quick and he chose the clingy annoying younger member, yuta can control him so he ist that headstrong. The whole I'm going to ship myself with 127 members is also a way of him getting those members fans to like him and it works.

Dowoo is the reason I adore jungwoo, his talent is what made him one of my favs in all neos.

Jaehyun hates him trying to push jaehyuns boundaries on camera, when I've a feeling he doesnt off camera at all. The boy doesnt even stay in his room, rather he goes and crashes with mark all the time.

The awkwardness is what makes jaewoo so fun to watch, u can sense when jaehyun is pissed and jungwoo looks at the management to get his hype or thumbs up. As for the jungwoo show, u can see that both sungchan and shotaro also can make him shut up. Jungwoo isnt cunning like some ppl want to paint him and neither is he a baby like his fans want to portray him. I love his dynamics with taeil and johnny the most. He is very cute with them coz hes younger than them, while being aggressive with his personality.

SM goes with ships that seem like they can last(sorry I'm giving shinees example again but onew and taemin are the best example), I guess they have to adjust jaehyun somehow and make him seem friendly and approachable. But jaehyun being his usual self has stopped responding to taeyong who he was closerish to since predebut and doesnt respond well to jungwoo or johnny at all. Jaemark has died, I just dont get why they dont push yujae. These both somehow click very well with eachother.

Yuta prefers to stay away from the trouble, maybe. Now that Yuta is a hot stuff himself, YuJae can get a go. YuJae's fight scene in Kick It was popular among fans. However, both DoWoo and JaeWoo are fans' choice, and both have some history of programmes and photoshoots, so why not continue.

im going to define what i think of as a fetishist: a non-mlm person who overly sexualizes gay men/men they think are gay/gay ships, and forces them into heteronormative roles for their own pleasure. its not even limited to cishet women. plenty of non-mlm lgbt people do this too and its like disheartening. so anyways

i may be incredibly biased here because one of the most affected members [of bts] is my favorite kpop boy, but oh god is the ‘personality change/simplification’ thing AWFUL here. i do not go out of my way to find fanart or see fanfic threads, but being in the bts fandom, u will inevitably see it and i REALLY wish i didnt

so anyways. my favorite boy ever is hoseok. he is sweet and hardworking and very passionate about dance and he can be serious when needed, but ultimately he tries to be very lighthearted and will consistently laugh or make jokes or do something funny when the other members feel uncomfortable or awkward (mostly during english-speaking interviews). he kisses the members on the cheek a lot/hugs them a lot/cuddles them a lot [this is important for later okay]

of course, theres a lot more to him because he is a multi-faceted real life human being, and i don’t know him personally, but that’s a general idea of what he’s like, okay?

How about a reversal of the selkie!au? Galahd has legends of selkie. But those on the islands are like Fae. You have to be very careful to cook me out of meeting them more or less intact. So Galahkari treat them with due caution and keep the hell away.

On the other hand, in Lucis skin changers have a moderately benevolent history. Helpful, if you treat them well but break a contract or harm an innocent around them and YOU. ARE. DONE. There are many stories of a queen or two shedding feathers of a Swan (one black and one white, guess who was more beloved) to settle down with her beloved. Countless more romanticised versions among the literature - all of which the refugees from Galahd scoff at with derision. But most of Insomnia treats those like fairy tales or sth, believing it even less than the takes of the Astrals and their Messengers.

Wider Lucis is a different story. Ppl there still have the Shifters appear from time to time. Tales of ppl with slightly wilder look around them are common. They all try to exercise their hospitality and manners especially well around those individuals.

And if that annoying herd that keeps destroying crops suddenly moves away or the Thunderocs that try to nest on the antidemon lights disappear they keep it to themselves and just smile extra warmly at the stranger should he appear again. Cor is a skin changer. Not many (beyond the Retinue) are aware of that. Mors certainly was not despite using the feral child as a soldier/guard. He feels like a wolf or a bird of prey of some type.

Regis knows the lore, some of the skin changer blood flows through his veins, he understands the urges. (Hmm, maybe Ardyn's mother's ancestor had phoenix blood in their veins? Maybe Somnus was just his half brother?) and knows that Cor's instincts are much sharper. Trusts that whenever Cor deals away with a member of his court, there is something wrong. Hell, even his suspicions are usually enough to start an investigation.

(That's why Titus irks him so much. He has trouble finding evidence between being run ragged by the war, something just /itches/at him in that man's presence. Drautos on the other hand just does not believe in folk tales) And then come the Galahdians.

And Nyx Ulric.

And Cor's every instinct just screams at him to get close to the man. That he is Important. (Doesn't help that he smells nice beneath all the spices, Cor can smell the fragrance even hours after the Glaive finished Guard duty in Citadel. Regis just laughs at him and starts mercilessly teasing his friend. It's only because Cor considers him family that the King does not end up with his throat torn out.)

Okay, first off: This is wonderful. And I love it very much. Also for everybody’s sanity I’ll put my answer under the cut.

Let’s say the term fae is used in Lucis to describe all magical beings that aren’t humans, animals, daemons, the Astrals or their messengers. When they say “A fae must have done it”, it means something very strange is afoot that shouldn’t bee too closely looked into.

Because benevolent or not, the fae like their privacy. Old children’s tales say that you should never tell anybody you saw a fae or that one helped you. Otherwise they will play cruel tricks and after they’ve had their fun you’ll never see them again.

Lucian tales go along the lines of helpful sprites that protect homes when milk and food are set out, of the Titan’s folk (read dwarves) that first taught humans how to mine, of the lindwurm that was blessed by Bahamut and gave the person who solved his tasks secret knowledge.

But the most popular tales are the ones about shape-shifters. Animal-walkers. It is said you can recognize them at the glint in their eyes, the sharpness of their teeth, the something that is different from what a human face should be. Their stories are most popular with hunters and people outside of Insomnia.

On the swan queens: Maybe the white swan could actually be a human that got cursed, and the Lucian King (then prince) broke the curse. The black swan was a shape-shifter, and only shed her feathers permanently after her man who wanted her, solved three unsolveable tasks.

Let’s say the white swan queen was considered very imperious and hysteric and inconsiderate, while the black swan queen was very beloved for her generosity and benevolence.

Which is around the time romanticised tales about shape-shifters and humans crop up like weeds. And they keep being popular into the modern times.

Now for the Galahkari.

Their word for magical beings like that is fihrie. But they are far less benevolent. For them fae/fihrie are beings that dance in the twilight when sun and moon share the sky and their music and laughter drives people mad. They are the beings that twist trees into wrong forms and trap freshly departed souls in their dead bodies. They are the ones that ride on the winds of winter and steal the unwary. It’s also said that they steal the first breath of a newborn baby because that is the most precious thing to them, and if the child survives despite that, it stands with one leg in the fihrie world.

Their stories aren’t about beings that are nice.

But then there are the selkie. Stories tell that they once belonged to the fihrie until one of them once stole not the first breath of a newborn, but the second. And that changed them into something that was just tiny bit more human and less fihrie.

So when the Galahkari come to Insomnia and see all those romanticized tales of swan queens and the lindwurm and sprites and tiny people with butterfly wings?

They think they have lost their minds. And wonder why these people are still alive. Because those Insomnian stories would insult any fihrie down to their bone. Which literally means the offending party will die a slow and gruesome death.

A theory says that the Lucians are loosing the war because the fihrie are so unbelievably furious.

Which leads to a lot of strange behaviour from the Insomnian point of view, when sigils appear everwhere along with salt lines and talismans and flower/grain/grass wreaths.

There is more than one loud discussion of how none of the Lucians seem to realize just how dangerous the Other Folk is. How you give offerings when having to walk through their territory, and while there you don’t eat or drink anything that comes from there. How you make sure a newborn’s first breath is takes as close to a fire as possible, because in their mind it is better to belong to the fires (to Ifrit) than to the Others.

And Cor stumbles into one of those discussions without anyone noticing. Let’s say Nyx isn’t there for one reason or other.

What would Cor think about this?

He would obviously know from Nyx’ aura alone that Nyx is a fae. (Just like Nyx knows Cor is not human. But Nyx keeps his distance because this is not his territory and he has not been invited to Cor’s hearth. Normally Nyx would have to make the fist move and he tried to, but this is not Galahd and things are done differently.)

Now he also knows what the Galahkari think of fae. This would make Cor’s protective instinct go into overdrive. Because Nyx is fae - obviously the only one that came from Galahd - and he’s younger then Cor. Which makes him one of Cor’s now.

And this is how not only human cultures clash, but also fae/fihrie culture.

hi! thank u sm!! i wouldn’t say i like lok more than atla, i love them both for different reasons!! it just depends on the vibe i’m in (recently i’ve been in a lok vibe can you tell). i think there are parts of atla that lok is much better at portraying and vice versa, but i don’t like comparing the two shows bc they are v v different (which is where a lot of the hate comes from). i’ll b honest, i was v hesitant to watch lok bc atla was the most formative show for me growing up but now i love it so much! i can’t say whether you will like the show bc everyone’s different but i will say if you go into the show hoping for an atla pt. 2 you won’t like it. if you are open to change in the atla universe and want something that feels familiar but also v different you will love it. i agree with the idea that lok is a more ‘grown up’ version of atla, and for that reason i want to (as objectively as i can) give a brief breakdown of the differences b/w both shows:

PLOT:

this is the first HUGE deviation: atla is very character driven where lok is very plot driven. 

each has it’s pros and cons, but bc the plot changes with each season of lok while the show remains plot driven this leads to some characters feeling underdeveloped. this wasn’t necessarily the writers’ faults, they went into each season not knowing if it would be the last, so there isn’t a whole lot of time to have character driven episodes like atla’s ‘tales of ba sing se’ or ‘appa’s lost days’. which leads me to! 

CHARACTERS:

here’s the honest truth - lok has much deeper, complicated, and developed female characters than atla. both in numbers and in growth, lok succeeds at this. 

lok is v woman-centric with many women of all ages who have complicated relationships with themselves, their family, their loved ones, etc. they don’t try to make their women likeable or perfect, they are all allowed to be loud and angry and right and wrong and they’re allowed to make mistakes and grow. they’re people. even if a character doesn’t have entire episodes dedicated to them, they still have arcs that span seasons and make them feel like real people. the women of lok made me realize how much more we could have had from the women of atla (not that they aren’t amazing or well developed, it’s just deeper characterization)

korra has an arc that rivals zuko. i could go into it but i don’t want to give spoilers :^) and even parallels him in an episode in book 4 called ‘korra alone’ (the best lok episode sorry).

for this reason every woman in my life who has seen all of lok has loved it (actually i am the only woman i know who doesn’t have a preference of lok over atla) 

VILLAINS:

the villains in lok are much more complicated than in atla. they all are compelling and make us ask questions about ourselves as the villains hold ideals that we all believe in but take them to extremes. for example:

if a group of people feel they are being persecuted and demand equality, how far is too far? what if a group has genuine grievances but resorts to violent guerilla warfare and terrorism against innocents as that is the only way to gain equality?

what if a new leader arises who wants to take down a monarchy that has only brought pain and suffering to a country? what if this new leader truly loves their country and will do anything to ensure everyone prospers after centuries of the rest of the world allowing them to be degraded by idiotic monarchs? what if this new leader who is wildly popular among the masses becomes a dictator? do you replace the dictator who loves their country and has made true strides in progress for an airhead monarch with no idea of how to rule a country? 

WORLDBUILDING 

this is where lok loses a lot of people who are atla purists (this and the plot driven nature of the show where they are attached to atla being character driven)

lok takes place 70 years after atla and it shows! the world has grown! it has changed! the places that look the same (ba sing se and the earth kingdom villages) are shown to be poorly led and in political disarray. they didn’t evolve in the last 70 years because there was no leadership to move them forward.

the first thing i noticed (outside of the snazzy 20s music) was the bending. i’m gonna be honest, i did not like the bending at first. atla shows bending as a very classical art form, so to see it has changed so much in lok worried me at first. once i began to appreciate the attention to detail as to how a world evolves, i realized that the changes in bending are one of the coolest parts of the show. 

it’s not completely different. it’s just different enough where you can see the logical progression of time that would come through in the real world. it makes sense for lightning bending to become more common! it makes sense for more people to know metalbending as toph teaches a new generation of earth benders who continue to pass it on to others! it makes sense for the styles of bending to have changed in places because it’s a living art!

looking back on it, the bending feels like this: atla bending is like reading a classic like jane austen or shakespeare where lok bending feels like reading a contemporary novel. you can see the resemblance, you can see where the younger generation gets their inspiration, but the language has evolved. it’s so cool.

EDIT: just wanted to add real quick that bc they have the same creators and writers the writing of lok feels v similar to the writing of atla! it has the same charm and depth while also showing growth. so you don’t need to worry about the writing styles/characterizations feeling totally unbalanced. anyways!

Yep! So the Masculine Magic styles aren’t exactly comparable to the feminine styles/transformations. They’re closer to the witch practices than fairy but Masc magics depend primarily on how they channel magic rather than what they specialize in but there are some commonalities. They can also mix and match styles as they need (also i didn’t want to draw a whole new figure so i just genderswapped my winxsona lmao)

So much like fairies and witches the first three stages of a masc magic user are basic building blocks, slowly increasing the mage’s power. Masculine magic styles are very loose with the “uniform” aspect, most of them just wear whatever they want, but one of the common aspects is a sash. first three stages are white, gray, and black sashes, and once the mage chooses their specialty or just gains a little more confidence they usually have a sash that matches their core color. It’s also common for masc magic users to dress a little more traditionally(according to whatever their culture is) once they reach the black sash stage but it’s not necessary. (my winxsona is from Koyu so traditional koyu clothing will be featured here)

Wizards are characterized by absorbing magic from where-ever, and storing it/channeling it through a signature item (examples: wizards of the black circle, tritanus originally, Acheron partially) often their attack magic isn’t as strong because they often have a weapon for their signature item and rely on that to deal damage. they are also known to have a decent grasp of elemental magic as they deal a lot with physical substances. One of the most common styles.

Sorcerers are characetrized by absorbing magical energy from where-ever and storing it within their own body. which this gives them certain advantages, like always having their magic supply within reach and being able to pour magic out in incredibly powerful and direct bursts, it can sometimes overload the magic user and leave them drained. Sorcerers often deal a fair amount with consciousness, in themselves and others, as their magic is grounded in their own body. One of the most common styles.

Alchemists are a very rare style to pursue, they absorbs their magic from potential energy in minerals/chemicals, and from the magic expelled from chemical reactions. they are expert potion makers and can pursue healing, building, destructive, or research careers. due to the unstable nature of some of their elements, the danger is relatively high, though your mostly at risk if you don’t take proper precautions. they usually wear thick clothing and gloves/boots, and when seriously working with have a physical mask but if working in the moment will generate a mask with magic. they also carry a kit personalized to their element preferences with them. 

Shamans are weird. They absorb their magical energy from their surroundings, and then channel it back through their environment (think earth or plant bending by those swamp ppl from that one episode). This route is primarily pursued by hermit types who live on their own in one specific place, but can also be used in semi developed villages as well. They have a decent grasp on the elements and natural/wild magic, but because of their intense connection to their environment they can run into problems. If a shaman is confronted on their own turf, they can seem to double their core magic output, and gain additional attack and defense capabilities (that magic bar should also be a little higher sry) but if away from their territory, they loose half their core for a while and loose some attack and defense. because of these limitations, and because of the inherit danger that comes with living in the wilderness the danger is a little high. Shamans usually dress to blend into their environment. They’re fairy rare.

Necromancer are also weird. Necromancers absorb their magic from death/decay and store it in their tattoos.(example: my nex get oc Aidan) Basically what happens is they take the potential magical energy from a thing before or as its being released, either causing it to die/decay or benefiting from it. Fungi are popular among Necromancers as they are a living embodiment of decay. Necromancers often lean towards Unconscious and time related magics but its not always the case. The tattoos also function as “dead material” being scar tissue and magically conductive ink. Some tattoos are specific runes that activate at a trigger word or action to do specific things (like a protection spell that is activated by physical force) but most are just personal symbols/imagery relating to the individual or their culture. Necromancers can go down a dark route pretty easily and using magic related to death often has side effects which is why the danger is fairly high. Though it’s not technically necessary, its traditional that Necromancers don’t wear sleeves, some prefer to go entirely shirtless but vests are also common.

Magicians are popular with the younger generation who tend to combine sorcery, wizardry, and necromancy as they like(example: Nabu). Their stats can vary wildly, and they often counteract the weakness of the other styles by mixing in the strengths of others. This requires a fairly flexible working style, as practitioners need to switch from absorbing into their body/tattoos to channeling out of their body/tattoo/signature item as the situation evolves. Magicians can tire out easy if they don’t keep up constant practice and meditation.

Ok, so I actually watched that show a couple years ago but only got through the first two seasons and then was too lazy to figure out where to watch the rest (especially since it wasn’t clear at the time if it was cancelled or would be cancelled or not) and then kinda... forgot about it? Also I think I remember I was pretty annoyed by Will’s angst after a while.

I mean, it’s valid ofc.

His therapist/friend/whatever they were by that point was a manipulating cannibal and he had these blood-smeared antler nightmares and shit so I’m gonna cut him some slack here.

So, uh, my honest opinion............. I... guess it’s a ship that exists?

I mean, if I had the hots for one or both of them I might be able to get rly into it, but the sexiest thing on the show was the food (ignoring what it’s made of ofc. i guess.) and the rly fancy ties Hannibal always wore.

I’m okay with most of them like. They have their place in the narrative, I guess? So iirc I’m not squicked by any of them?

They’re very tropey, especially the ones among the teenagers, but that trope density with these kinda archetypes n stuff wasn’t that run-of-the-mill common and fucking everywhere to that degree back when the show came out so while I would probably at least be bored if not hella annoyed to get all of that shoved in my face nowadays... it’s fine with me in the context of NGE.

It does get a bit more substance and becomes more interesting i you throw yourself down the rabbit hole of fandom’s timeline speculations and their related essays on that tho, in which all the NGE canons are somewhat linked in a particular order bc Shinji reset everything a couple times in previous Third Impacts XD

In this theory, Kaoru is the only one who remembers all these timelines, which explains why he starts out as a kinda emotionally incompetent bratty douchebag in the manga and only learns a human emotion or two and something resembling compassion through Shinji, which explains why he’s in instant flirty mode when he sees him “again” in the anime(s) and seems to know exactly what Shinji is going through and needs to hear (and how to hurt him by giving/saying it to him before making him kill him XD’) there.

Like, in the context of that connected timelines theory, this pairing is pretty cool and I can really get behind it and could see myself getting emotionally invested if I spent more time on it and/or maybe were a little younger.

But outside of that context, judging it by just one of the canons at a time...
