headcanon requests!

i’m feeling like trying my hand at some headcanon requests! send in some general ideas/prompts and i’ll probably do a bunch for different characters :) definitely for dragon age, but also check out my request posts for other fandoms i vibe with.

Dragon Age 2, between Acts 1 and 2. Mage!Hawke, Fenris, Varric, Aveline + whoever else you would like to include. FenHawke being the main focus:

Hawke faints while they’re all walking through Kirkwall, surprising everyone, eventually they find out Hawke has been starving themselves to make sure their family has enough to eat… I headcannon that magic and spellcasting consume a lot of the bodies natural resources, so mages need to consume more calories, hence why they like bread and cheese so much

Fenris - he’s freaked out when Hawke/you collapse!! Rushes immediately to your aid. Once you/Hawke reveal to him what curtailed your fainting spell, be prepared for the lecture of a lifetime. Fenris sympathizes with your efforts, but is frustrated with your stubbornness given how he feels about you.

Varric - he would be entirely concerned for your/Hawke’s well-being, telling you you’re no good for your family (or him) if you’re half-starved. Saying all this while he’s preparing a whole homemade feast for you

Aveline - she would also lovingly chastise you/Hawke for not letting her know, but also demands you rest while she tends to you

Drivers License

A/N: a song fic based off of the legendary song “Drivers License” that I bet we all know is by the one and only Olivia Rodrigo, this is an Isabela x fem!reader. I was crying and listening to drivers license on repeat while writing this. (Also bold are lyrics, Italics are memories) also just a quick disclaimer, I kinda skipped some parts of the song and moved it around a stuff. Also, this is set in an AU where there is a need to drive in Encanto I guess, thanks!

Summary: Isabela and reader were in love, but Abuela didn’t approve so they had to date in secret, but when she was arranged with Mariano so they had to have a messy break up

I got my drivers license last week, just like we always talked about

“Great job (Y/N)! You’re doing so well! You’ll get your driver’s license in no time!” Isabela told her girlfriend who was sat next to her in the black car. And she was right, she had gotten it a week after they broke up, but to her it felt like only a few days ago.

‘Cause you were so excited for me, to finally drive up to your house, but today I drove past the suburbs crying ‘cause you weren’t around

She remembered their messy breakup like it was just yesterday, and to her it felt like it was.

“You don’t understand! I have to be perfect for my family, and they don’t think you’re good enough for me!” Isabela told (Y/N), ignoring the tears that were falling from (Y/N)’s face. “But aren’t we worth more than an arranged marriage you aren’t even happy with?” (Y/N) tried to say through her tears. “It doesn’t matter what I want or if I’m happy or not in this relationship, it’s all about what my Abuela wants!” Isabela said, clearly not happy about this but still too blinded by her own need to be perfect to think about what she really wanted. “Just leave before my Abuela finds you, she had made it very clear she doesn’t like you,” Isabela said, (Y/N) turned around before spinning back around, “Goodbye Isabela Madrigal, but just know that to me, you were always perfect,” she said before walking away.

(Y/N) still lived in the place of Encanto, so avoiding to famous family was almost impossible, but the thing that broke her the most was the fact that she always saw Isabela and her new husband Mariono, although she was a girl and he was a guy, she was still really insecure about him, his slick black hair made her (Y/H/C) look bad and his whole personality always made (Y/N) doubt herself.

“Hey Isa, will you ever leave me for Mariono?” (Y/N) would ask at a random time of the day, “No of course not, you mean everything to me.” Isabela would whisper in her ear, but now she realised that it was all a lie.

Yeah, today I drove past the suburbs crying ‘cause you weren’t around

(Y/N) tightened her grip on the steering wheel as she passed by a giggling Isabela with her new husband Mariono, she let a silent tear fall before trying to look away. She realised, though, that she had to just accept this, that fate didn’t want them together. She was happier with her new husband, leaving (Y/N) all alone. So that day, (Y/N) decided she would try to move on.

5 Questions Meme

I was tagged by @joufancyhuh​ (on my main) so here we go! I never know who to tag in things so if you see this and you’re a writer, steal it!

I am going to be answering this about my upcoming Sebastian x Bethany fic, which is going to be titled “My Sweetest Downfall”!

1) What was the idea that started the story?

While preparing for my replay of DA2 over the summer (the second time I’ve ever finished it), I was reading through the DA wiki to make sure I got the approval I wanted so I could keep Isabela and actually successfully romance Fenris. I remembered enjoying Sebastian and wanted to get more familiar with him in particular so I read his wiki page very thoroughly. And saw a note that he and Bethany had been planned to become a couple under the right circumstances but that was scrapped.

I had vaguely shipped them since the first time I played, but after reading that and watching videos of their (only two, sadly) interactions in Mark of the Assassin and Legacy, it turned into a full-blown obsession. So, I decided that I’d make them become a couple in my personal canon and started working on that mostly canon-compliant idea.

2) Did you make an outline? Did you stick to it?

I have an outline in my head but it’s a pretty straightforward story (slowburn romance with details from my personal canon mixed in) so mostly I just throw things at the vague skeleton of it and usually they stick.

3) What’s the favorite part of your story?

Of what I’ve written so far, Bethany and Sebastian’s first kiss. It’s deliciously angsty:

I’ve been working on it out of order so there’s another scene toward the end that I’m super proud of but it’s not something I want to spoil because I want to see if people get what I’m going for with it.

4) Who is your favorite character and why?

Bethany is a wonderfully complex character to write. Exploring her feelings of duty to the circle despite wanting to leave and have the life she wants is so fun. She’s coming to terms with the fact that both Meredith and Orsino used her to try to influence her sister and also with the fact that Sebastian is possibly the first person to actually ever care what she wants, even more than Hawke.

I do also adore an OC who will feature in the first few chapters: a fisherman named Lennox who has a daughter in the Ostwick circle.

5) Did anything happen that surprised you as you were writing?

Other than how deep my obsession for this ship got? That scene I mentioned toward the end that I don’t want to spoil. I accidentally stumbled onto something way more meaningful than I initially intended and I want to scream about it but I’d rather it be a surprise for readers as well.

1.What inspired you to write the fic this way? I’ve always been a sucker for Merribela, and when I got a fisting prompt from @irondeficientbull I knew I needed to ease into it (hur hur, ease into it) because fisting’s not usually a first date activity! So I wanted to expand it and add some other scenes, plus show the depth of their relationship developing across the various acts of DA2.

4.What’s your favorite line of dialogue?

“I think that’s the trick about forgiveness— it’s never earned. It’s only given.” Another pass, another sip. Merrill lifts her leg, slides and half-crawls her way into Isabela’s lap, nestling into the curve of her arm. “It’s in the name.”

Oh man. This line still makes me sigh a little (a lot) because I was thinking a lot about forgiveness and redemption, the way that fandoms and culture decides which characters and people are worthy of either. We can hold individuals up as ‘pure’ before they topple into ‘problematic,’ and ‘problematic’ can be used to cover for everything from ‘they have done X, Y, Z things that inflicted serious harm on people’ to ‘they have an Incorrect Opinion on bagels.’ I like complicated, messy characters, and am (generally) dissatisfied with what passes as redemption in most fanfics. Some characters don’t need to be redeemed to interesting, some aren’t sufficiently redeemed in the narrative as presented because suffering=/= redemption, and sometimes a character can do their best to redeem themselves without having earned forgiveness from those they’ve harmed.

Obviously, this is still something I’m thinking about.

But in this context, I like it because all the companions (and Hawke themself) in DA2 have different moments where they can betray each other. Their forgiveness is a matter of perspective.

6.What makes this fic special or different from all your other fics? This was the start of my more recent effort to combine smut with longer character arcs. I love writing smut, but also realized that a lot of the stories that really resonated for me were ones that involved more character development and emotional narrative. I was (and still am, to a certain extent) used to a kink meme or PWP formula where the sex is disconnected from the story, or where the sex is used as a happy ending or ‘reward’ for when the characters finally get together.

(Side note: I don’t mean ‘disconnected’ in a negative sense, but to mean that it can be an isolated one-off that doesn’t reflect a change in the characters or how we view them. It can be one scene from an established relationship or something that’s a quickie get-together, but the sex itself is not used to advance or develop a story because the sex is the story, and can be read in isolation from the rest of the canon or narrative. Obviously not all PWP or one-offs match this description, but it’s a pattern that I have seen and that I know I myself have fallen into.)

When I was outlining this, I knew I wanted to have more than one sex scene, and I wanted each scene to be at a pivotal point in the characters’ lives, a way of either draining tension (as after Merrill and Isabela both betray Hawke in the Fade) or to show a transition in their relationship, like when they first become lovers or to provide one last warm fuzzy before the Chantry explodes. I also wanted to make sure it wasn’t ‘just’ sex scenes, so there had to be other bits of banter and camaraderie, plus showing Merrill’s developing relationship with the alienage. I still wanted to keep the sex integral to the story though. Someone who skips the sex would miss a lot of key points in the fic, and someone who tries to skip only to the sex would also miss a lot of key points.

So that’s it! This is still something I’m working on.

14.Is there anything you wanted readers to learn from reading this fic? Merrill’s not naive, just inexperienced. She might not understand all the dirty jokes and innuendo because she lacks context, but it doesn’t stop her from thinking dirty thoughts or wanting in on the innuendo. :P

Also, friendships are complicated and sometimes friends can hurt each other without meaning to. Endless forgiveness doesn’t work for everyone, but the Kirkwall crew at least knows that they’ve got each other’s backs they’re against the wall.

15.What did you learn from writing this fic? I’ve learned (and am still learning) to outline my scenes, to try and make it have an actual narrative to it beyond ‘and then stuff happens.’ It also forced me to be more strategic, trying to compact more history and character in every moment, so I would try to track the smut scenes, but also moments of character growth and when other characters (like Hawke, Aveline, Sam) made appearances, to help remind the reader of the people important in Merrill’s life.

Looking back, did you expect to write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected?

I did write less than I wanted, overall, but I learned so much about myself as a writer, that I really can’t complain.

What’s your own favorite story of the year?

Letters from Orlais (NSFW f!Trev x Cullen) - This series is just too too much fucking fun to write. It’s pretty much a sexual exploration for Cullen & Trev, as prompted by dirty Orlesian love letters. The best part though, is that most of the letters featured are written by readers, so those that enjoy the story have really had a hand in shaping it. 

Did you take any writing risks this year?

Letters from Orlais - The first chapter, is the first piece of fic that I ever shared publicly in any way. Even my husband had never read any of my writing before that. So I’m incredibly proud of myself for finally feeling like writing was something I wanted to share. 

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year?

Write moar. That’s the jist of it. Still gonna keep my focus on Letters from Orlais, and The Journals of CSR, but in the other unpublished WIPs I’ve got are... Dorian x Cullen | Plus sized f!Trev x Cullen | Anora x Alistair | Warden x Morrigan x Alistair | Bull x Dorian | m!Lavellan x Bull | Cullen x Meredith | Solas x f!Lavellan | Tabris x Zevran x Isabela | Fairbanks x Clara

Best story of the year?

Imho... The Journals of CSR (f!Lavellan x Cullen) at just over 700 hits, it’s got very low (A03) readership, but the response to it has been (proportionally) the greatest.

Most popular story of the year?

Letters from Orlais  - It’s also the longest, 11 chapters + a pt. 2., but it blows away every other story of mine in terms of metrics. (Kudos, hits, comments, bookmarks, subscriptions)

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:

The Recruit (f!Trev x Cullen) It has the lowest hit count of any of my fic (413), and remains the only completely SFW piece of fic I’ve written, but it was my first fic request, and is just glorious mabari fluff, and I get very warm hearted when I re-read it.

Most fun story to write:

Letters from Orlais - I mean the subtitle to the story is “A sexual exploration for Cullen I-didn’t-know-I-was-into-that-kink Rutherford.” So, yeah. Pretty damn fun.

Story with the single sexiest moment:

In all honesty, this should go to my WIP of Cullen & Dorian, because I got myself so hot and bothered, I had to stop. But Anders - Dirty Secret (NSFW Fenris x Anders x m!Hawke... kinda) is a close second. Fenders = sexy. Handers = sexy. Fenhanders = My mind explodes from the heat and melts away.

Most sweet story:

Fenris - X Ray (NSFW Fenris x m!Hawke) - It’s probably strange that I consider this story “sweet” since it’s ultimately about how Hawke & Fenris deal with each other physically post Fenris’ sexual abuse, but there is SO MUCH DAMN LOVE between those two.

“Holy crap, that’s wrong, even for you!” story:

Alistair - Aftercare (NSFW f!Warden x Alistair) Dude... I kink all the kinks, so there really isn’t a “wrong” for me. BUT... this does feature my (so far) dirtiest kink: come eating. Because I have major headcanons about what having sex in the deep roads is like.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:

(Aside from my Cullen x Meredith WIP) The Captain (NSFW Isabela x Cullen) - I’m not actually sure why I wrote this one. It’s tertiary backstory for Journals of CSR... but I had the idea that Cullen and Isabela got to know each other real well between DA2 and DAI, and whelp. Now I headcanon this so hard I can’t stop, and I’ve got another 2 parts planned for what was supposed to be a stand-alone ficlet.

Most unintentionally telling story:

The Journals of CSR - This is THE story guys. The one that I HAVE to get out. It’s overall been the most difficult, it’s the most ambitious story I’ve ever attempted, and the one in many ways, that means the most. 

Hardest story to write:

It’s a tie! She is Calm (NSFW Bull x f!OC) / One, Two, Three (NSFW Alistair x f!Cousland x Leliana) Bull is one of the hardest characters for me to write, I don’t know why. So I STRUGGLED with She is Calm. On the flip side, Threesomes are tremendously difficult. I really love the connection part of smut, and it’s hard to show that someone is equally interested in two different parties without the build-up a longer fic can give, so One, Two, Three  probably felt the most difficult overall.

Biggest disappointment:

Fenris - X Ray - I really don’t have a disappointment, I’m really proud of all the fic that I’ve put out. But this one has the only section that I’d legit re-write. There was just a bit about Fenris & his cock ring where I didn’t explain the character’s rationale, or motivation really well, so I’d like to go back (eventually) and amend it.

Biggest surprise:

Letters of Orlais: Prequel - This one started as an anon-tumblr prompt for the beginning of Trev & Cullen’s relationship, and turned into a 5 chapter smut bonanza that was terribly, terribly fun to write. :)
