You know, due to the fact that I love taking on immense projects that I’ve never done before and expecting them to turn out amazingly, I’m thinking about submitting a piece or two as arrangements for the orchestra.  Something from Shadow of the Colossus (probably just The Opened Way tbh (unless I did a battle suite or something)), maybe something from Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch (like Drippy’s Theme (also consider looking at The Fairyground (but maybe don’t swing it bc we know what happened the last time the orchestra tried to swing)), the Battle Theme (or the second one??), the Main Theme or World Map maybe?  probs a mashup of sorts bc the main theme is real repetitive lol, like start and end with the main theme and have those two others in the middle somewhere (AHHHH THERE ARE LYRICS TO THE MAIN THEME???  I AM CRYINGGGG)), or even Blinded by Light from FFXIII NOPE NOPE NOPE I’m listening to it right now and I simply don’t think it would work.  I mean I’ve been thinking about an arrangement of The Opened Way for years.  I could probably pull one together over winter break.  Problem is that I don’t know how to really write for piano, percussion, or guitar.  I suppose I could look at old scores for help.

Again, I’d just have to know from the get-go that I’m not expecting to get selected.  It would be an accomplishment just to make something.  And we have some really talented arrangers in this group, so I can’t expect my first tries to be The Ones.  But they could be starts.

Well, I did end up starting an arrangement of The Opened Way after all.

So my puzzle-friend showed me a bunch of cool sites that analyze your Spotify music and I’ve only done two of them so far.  This simple one told me that songs from Austin Wintory’s Abzu OST made up 90% of my top ten songs over the past six months (the very top one was Jhariah’s Flight of the Crows).

This more complex one told me that my current music taste is 97% more obscure than the Spotify listener base (my overall taste is 95% more obscure).  Primarily due to my taste in video game OSTs, but apparently showtunes is fairly obscure as well?  Walker and Wylde is my most obscure artist which totally makes sense (followed by the Spelling Bee cast, Chris Remo (composed the Firewatch OST), Shady Cicada (who I barely listen to these days), and Vincent Diamante).  It also told me that I’m 12% sadder than average, 20% less danceable than average, 25% more atmospheric than average.  They also gave me recs which I appreciate.  Wild.

ALL A’s YALL WOOHOO

I... I mean I literally don’t know how I ended up with an A in physics.  Did I deserve it?  I mean, yeah, probably.  I just wish I knew what the full curve ended up being.  Oh, also, I got a 69% on my final hehe (nice).

Brings GPA ever so slightly up which I am certainly thankful for.  Yeah, that’s what I’m thankful for today.  I’m thankful for straight A’s in a semester that did not quit.  I’m thankful for the lil mini GPA boost (I mean if I fall below 3.9 I won’t cry... but I will be upset.).

Over the past few days I’ve spent time with friends, had Christmas, sewed a dress for my mom all in one night despite having the fabric and pattern for six months, was lectured at for not flossing by my dentist, went on a strenuous 10 mile hike which included a mile or so of bouldering, watched The Matrix 4 (I really enjoyed it!!), stressed out over what on earth I was going to have the saxes do in my The Opened Way arrangement, and overall it’s just been really chill.

And yeah.  That’s been the past few days.  Arranging is hard.  I really thought that having the melody and baseline down pact would be enough.  Pah!  No.  Luckily, this piece has been arranged (well and poorly) by many different people, so listening through those has given me some ideas and also clarified some tricky bits.

I’ll probably go for the Ni No Kuni arrangement next.  The cool thing about it is that the melody gets passed around to the different sections, so that adds interest.

Pattern - Pink Tabby Largo

I tried to make the pattern easy to read but do let me know if there is confusing/unclear stuff.

Please don’t post this pattern to other places without my permission.

If you aren’t handy with crocheting (and don’t have anybody near you who can do it for you) and would like to buy a crocheted slime, feel free to ask if I’m able to do commissions at the time (I try to update my commission status to my commissions page, found under the links). =)

And I’d love to see pictures of the slimes you have made. ^_^

Some specs:

I used 3mm hook and acrylic yarn on the slimes. (Usually just whatever I have in those colours)

On the left, the stripes are sewed on in 3 stitch long parts (approx), couple rows together to make them fuller. On right, the stripes are crocheted using both sides of the stitch. (Compare to Tabby pattern pictures for different kind of stripes)

The eyes I use are 8mm glass beads, but I think one can use different sizes as well, or safety eyes, buttons, felted eyes, or sewed knots, what ever you want or have. ^_^

I follow the beginning of the rows with a yarn in the back of the plush, it helps when doing the stripes, I lose count often. If you plan to sew the stripe later, it’s good to put markers as you crochet. =)

Abbreviations: sc = single crochet inc = increase dec = decrease hdc=half double crochet (sequence to repeat) x how.many.times [Total of stitches at the round in the end]

Pink Tabby Largo body (basic largo body with or without stripes)

I’m not a professional, so the pattern might not be too good, but this is how I make my slimes. ^_^

(11sc, dec) x4 [48] Here I place markers for eyes and mouth between rows 15 and 16 (I  use just pieces of yarn) so that I get the height right. Do experiment if you like the face higher or lower than I do. =)

I usually do the Largo mouth 6 stitches long, and put the eyes 3 stitches from the sides of the mouth. To keep the shape of the mouth, I use sewing thread  of the same colour to stitch it to shape gently. The open mouth I made from felt, and coloured the outer lines with fabric marker, making it easier to see against the pink body. I sewed it on with couple small stitches, but glue or felting needles work as well. See more expressions in my other slime patterns. =)

I try to keep mouth and eyes about on the same height (or on the open mouth the upper lip on the same line with the eyes) But do try out different positions to see what you like. ^_^

When I feel good on the head shape I pull the yarn through 2nd, 4th and 6th stitch and pull tight, then secure the end and hide it inside the slime.

Pink Tabby Largo Ears

Here you can do both ears with the Right ear pattern and just leave out the final step of the pattern (8th step). I like to add small ear lobes to shape the ear, but they work well without them too.

(3sc, inc) x4, 1sc [21] 7. 2sc base colour, 8sc stripe colour, slip stitch  ending the stripe here 8. With base colour, Start from the 6th stripe stitch with one chain stitch. Do sc on the stripe stitches 7 & 8, do hdc to the 9th and 10th stitch, sc to the end (11-21 sc) end with a slip stitch Leave a long yarn to sew the ear with.

Pink Tabby Largo Tail

The open mouth slime has the tail stripes moved forward one row, but I like more of this pattern for them seen in the closed mouth slime. Do experiment to make it look good to you. ^_^

I put the ears a little back from the middle point of the body, looking at the face that they are somwehat even. The lower corners are one or two row above the stripes.

Sew a patchwork quilt with Next in Fashion’s Daniel Fletcher

Creative director and star of Netflix’s Next in Fashion, Daniel W Fletcher has plenty to get on with while in social isolation, designing a collection for Fiorucci as well as one for his own brand. In his down time, he is taking up a DIY challenge to make a patchwork quilt based on a dress he made during the filming of Next in Fashion, using other designers’ leftover scraps. The design – inspired by concerns over the melting polar ice caps – is an arctic landscape.

“Ever since the show, I’ve been inundated with requests to make similar quilted items, so I thought this was a good opportunity to show people how they can do so themselves.

“You can make it from any leftover fabrics you have. This time, I used some leftover damaged denim from my studio as the quilt base. I don’t imagine everyone has that lying around so use what you have.

“Heavier is better for the base so it can hold the appliqué – maybe some old curtains or an existing blanket that needs some love. If you don’t have enough to do a blanket, you could use the same technique to make a cushion. For the appliqué, it could be old clothes, tablecloths, tea towels – anything you can get your hands on.

“I went quite abstract with my pattern, but you could come up with a more elaborate design.

“Mine took me five hours on a sewing machine. You could hand sew it instead. It’s going to be a much longer process but could be very therapeutic, which is something we could all do with right now.”

Liam Hodges has recently moved house, so his time in self isolation has been spent unpacking and making rugs.

“I learnt to crochet last October and have found it really relaxing. For our AW20 collection, we crocheted a lot of squares as embellishments. I’ve kept it up and even tried to make a skipping rope when I first went into isolation.

“I had been wanting to make some rag rugs and started working out how to crochet graphics into them. I made the graphic in Photoshop so that each pixel represented each crochet stitch.

“I thought doormat-size was perfect. I have mine by the door to remind me to keep positive and take the [government] advice about staying in seriously.

“It took me around two and a half hours to complete and is made up of old, shredded T-shirts for the coloured section and yarn made using Wool and the Gang offcuts for the main black areas, so it is entirely made from waste.”

Sew a shark mascot with designer Christopher Raeburn

Designer Christopher Raeburn’s team are adapting to the current situation by releasing weekly creative tasks via their #RaeburnAtHome initiative.

“This project is to make one of our shark mascots. We have always featured animals in our collections, initially as a way to highlight and support endangered species through our WWF UK partner. The Shark is one of our most popular animals; we keep it in our collections each season, but it always evolves.

“You need no more than one square metre of fabric – even less if you are conscious of pattern placement for waste reduction. Using a variety of smaller cuts of fabric is encouraged though as this adds pops of colour and texture to the final shark.

“Not only is reusing and repurposing old fabric a more interesting way of working, but extending the lifetime of garments is instrumental in reducing planetary impact. When people are spending more time at home than ever before, now is the chance to pull out those bits that we no longer use and give them new life.

“Unless you are an absolute master, it should keep you busy for about 10 hours. We only recommend a sewing machine for ease and speed – top marks for effort go to anyone tackles it by hand.”

Designer Edward Crutchley’s lockdown aim is to set himself a project each day. His first was to cut a pattern for and sew a one-piece kimono-inspired garment. Next up is making miniature sculptures of the kings and queens of England using modelling clay.

“How to make Japanese clothes by John Marshall is a book I have on my shelf that I thought it would be great to lose myself in during isolation.

“I love traditional Japanese clothing and now is the perfect time to study. What I love about kimonos is that they are traditionally dictated by the fabric – they are the width they are because that is how wide the looms could weave. For a fabric geek like me, that’s a dream.

“A traditional kimono pattern looks like some different-length rectangles put together, but nothing is ever that simple and it takes a lot of skill to construct a traditional kimono properly. The one I made is much, much easier.

“I used three metres of fabric left over from the last collection, but you could make it with two metres if it’s 150cm wide, or you can easily add seams to the patterns or patchwork fabrics together. Repurposing old curtains or a bed sheet would be perfect.

“It took me around four hours to complete – there are only three seams and three hems. I tried to make it as simple as possible.”

Difficulty level: advanced Equipment needed: a sewing machine, two to three metres of fabric, thread, scissors, paper and dressmaking pins.

Make a shrunken crisp-packet necklace with Tatty Devine

While social distancing, Rosie Wolfenden and Harriet Vine, the designers behind Tatty Devine jewellery, are doing daily making challenges.

“It’s amazing for your mental health and the perfect antidote to these strange and unsettling times. This so-called shrinky necklace is something we did as kids. We first made one as Tatty Devine in 2001. It was very early days, when we made jewellery from whatever we could get our hands on. We enjoyed having to eat crisps.”

Difficulty level: beginner Equipment needed: old crisp packets (not foiled or metallic, such as Chipsticks or many supermarket own brands); a chain necklace (whether new or something you already own); greaseproof paper, a baking tray, a damp tea towel (for safety reasons), an old tea towel, a hole punch, a regular jump ring and two pairs of flat-nose pliers.

How to:

Set your grill to medium.

While the grill is warming, fold the greaseproof paper to make it into rough envelope shapes and pop your empty food packets inside – one wrapper per envelope.

Put the envelopes on a baking tray under the grill. The packet will start to shrink and curl up. You don’t want them to burn or blister so watch closely.

As soon as they are shrunken enough, remove the baking tray, quickly place a folded tea towel on top of the envelope and slam your hand down to flatten your “shrinky”.

Use a hole punch to make a hole somewhere on the packet.

Open a regular jump ring with the pliers and thread the packet on to the jump ring, then put the jump ring on to the necklace and close it.

You can stop with one pendant or layer up for a charm effect.

Knit a scarf with dancer Meshach Henry

Despite having no previous knitting experience, dancer Meshach Henry has made three scarves in as many days, documented on Instagram by his partner, the Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw.

“I always said I would learn a new skill like plumbing or plastering if I ever had a lot of time on my hands. But they aren’t ideal skills to practice in this current situation. So, having seen knitting supplies in a craftshop window recently, I thought, ‘Here’s my new hobby.’

“I purchased a thick wool because it looked easier to use and less fiddly. I bought 10mm knitting needles, which I thought were an average size but later found out are strangely big – but I’m really happy with the chunky effect they produce.

“What I like about knitting is that you can see your physical product. As a dancer, I rarely get to see my own work, so to be able to see and hold this tangible thing is a whole new world for me.

“My intention is to move on to knitting jumpers. I want to create a matching jumper for every scarf, just to keep things interesting.”

Lucinda Chambers is co-founder of fashion brand Colville and online shopping platform Collagerie and was fashion director at British Vogue for 25 years.

“I was in Paris six months ago having a glass of water in the Bon Marché and I noticed the glass looked suspiciously like the end of a wine bottle.” When Chambers investigated she found a world of home crafters making their own tumblers from pre-used wine bottles.

“I found an inexpensive kit on Amazon,” she says. “Each glass is a labour of love as I sand them by hand; it’s strangely therapeutic.”

Difficulty level: medium Equipment needed: empty glass bottles, a glass cutter kit (available online, for instance from Amazon).

How to:

“The kit has everything you need to make the glasses: a stand, saw and markers that you place on the empty bottle at the height you require your finished glass to be. You can make French-style low tumblers or something taller. Once you’ve cut the bottle you need to sand the cut edge smooth.”

Helemaal hip, deze pencilskirt. Je kunt ‘m formeel of zelfs een beetje chic dragen met met pumps of geef ‘m een sprtief tintje door de gestreepte tailleband en draag ‘m met sneakers. Het rokje is nauwsluitend maar heeft achter een split. Je moet er natuurlijk wel mee kunnen fietsen.

Totally hip, this pencil skirt. Great for the office with high heels or give it a sporty edge with a striped waistband and some sneakers.

The skirt is has a snug fit but the slit in the back makes it easy to move in. Offcourse you should always be able to cycle in it!

Nodig:

*Ongeveer 80 cm tricot. Voor de kortere rok gebruik je 70 cm. Er staat nog een lijn op het patroon om eventueel een kort rokje te maken zonder split. Dan heb je aan 50 cm genoeg. Ik raad aan een stevige tricot te gebruiken voor het beste resultaat. Een goed rekbaar jaquard breisel werkt goed, een Punto di milano of tricot jeans werkt perfect. French terry is ook geschikt mits er elasthan in zit. 

*Een strook uni tricot voor de piping en eventueel voor ceintuur en lusjes.

* Een strook plakkkatoen voor de ceintuur.

* Nestelringetjes en tang voor de ceintuur.

* Elastiek 4 cm hoog en breed: voor maat 36: 67 cm voor maat 38: 73 cm voor maat 40: 76 cm voor maat 42: 79 cm voor maat 44: 86 cm

You need:

*About 80 cm/ 31 1/5 inch jersey fabric. For the shorter version about 70 cm/ 27 1/2 and the mini skirt about 50 cm/ 20 inch. On the patterns you will find cutting lines for three different lengths.

I recommend a firm quality with a lot of (two way) stretch. A punto di Milano is perfect, jersey denim works great as well as a French terry with elastane.

* A strip of jersey for piping in the side seam, optional

* A strip of jersey for the belt and loops, optional

* A strip of cotton interfacing for the belt, optional

* Eyelets and pliers for the belt, optional.

If you want to add piping in the side seam you cut a strip of 2 cm/ 3/4 inch high as long as your skirt length x2.

Now we are going to sew the pencil skirt. Copy the darts from the pattern on the inside of your pattern piece. I always make a little hole on my paper pattern where the dart ends and connect it to the outer ends of the darts.

Lines on top of one another, pin the lines.

Stitch the darts in the front part and the two back parts.

Now the slit in the back: Lay the pattern pieces down with the inside facing up.The outlines of the split parts finished with an overlock stitch. Fold over the slit parts and press. As you can see the slit part of the left part sticks out.

Clip where the line starts to angle.

Als je een pipingrandje in de zijnaad maakt vouw dan de strook uni tricot in de breedte dubbel en speld langs het langs een van de zijnaden van de rok.

If you are making a skirt with piping in the sideseam fold the strip of fabric width ways and pin along the side seams of the from or back parts of your skirt.

Stik de piping op 5 mm van de kant.

Sew the piping 5 mm/ 1/5 inch from the edge

Speld het andere pand er tegen, goede kanten op elkaar en stik de zijnaden met de overlock machine. Als je de piping nog wat smaller wil of voor wat etra stevigheid kun je hiernaast nog een rekbaar stiksel plaatsen.

Pin your skirt parts together, right sides on top of one another and stitch with the overlocker/serger. If you’d like the piping to be a little narrower and/or make the side seams a bit sturdier you can add a stretch stitch next to it.

Ik heb voor deze rok in tricot jeans de achterkant van de stof gebruikt voor de piping. Een rood streepje had ook leuk geweest, of goud..Gebruik wel altijd rekbare stof voor je bies of piping.

For this jersey denim skirt, I used the inside of the fabric for the piping.Red would have been cute too or gold..  Always use stretch fabric for a piping band.

Stik nu het elastiek dicht door de uiteinden op elkaar te leggen en een dubbel stiksel te geven. Stik ook de uiteinden van de tailleband dicht.

Close the elastic band with two lines of stitching as indicated. Also, close the waistband.

Vouw de tailleband om het elastiek heen en geef met spelden aan waar middenvoor komt (middenachter is het naadje) en de zijnaden. Geef ook op de rok aan waar middenvoor komt.

Fold the waistband around the elastic widthwise. Mark mid front with a pin (mid-back is the seam) and the two side points. Also, mark mid front on the skirt

Speld nu de band tegen de bovenkant van de rok en stik vast met de overlock machine. Let op: als je een rokje maakt met ceintuur moet je  meteen de lusjes meestikken. Zie bij de werkbeschrijving van de ceintuur onderaan hoe dat moet.

Pin the waistband to the top of the skirt. Attach the waistband with a serger/overlock machine. If you make a skirt with a belt attach the belt loops as well. Scroll down to see the belt/beltloop tutorial.

Als het elastiek niet direct tegen de bovenrant van de rok zit kun je er nog een extra stretch stiksel naast plaatsen. Ook kun je de naad nog een keer doorstikken op 7 mm van de kant aan de goede kant van de rok.

An extra stretch stitching can be placed above the overlock stitch for extra strength. You can also topstitch the top of the skirt appr. 1/4 inch from the edge.

Nu alleen nog de zoom. Vouw de zoom naar binnen op 2 cm. Stik door aan de buitenkant met een tweelingnaald in je naaimachine of een coverlock. Voor de coverlock:omdat dit geen doorlopende zoom is begin ik met stikken op en apart stukje stof en dan naai ik door tot ik bij het begin van de zoom ben. Dit begin stukje haal ik dan uit en de draadjes werk ik weg.

Almost done! Only the hem. Fold in the hem 3/4 inch in and press or pin. On the outside sew the hem with a twin needle or a coverlock machine. When using a coverlock: start on a separate piece of fabric, sew the hem to the end, then take out the first stitches from the separate piece of fabric and neatly finish these threads by hand.

Complete the pencil skirt with this belt:

This buckle you can cover with fabric. The maker is Prym. It comes with a template with two adhesive sides. You remove one part of the paper en stick it to the inside of a piece of fabric.

Vervolgens knip je langs het sjabloon. Neem ook de knipjes over.

Cut out along the line of the template. Also, copy the cutting lines.

Nu verwijder je de andere laag papier en vouw je de stof om de gesp heen en plak je het vast.

Now remove the other layer of paper and fold the fabric around the clasp.

Zorg dat de stof mooi glad om de gesp heenzit. Knip desnoods nog wat overtollige stof weg.

Smooth out any wrinkles. If needed, cut away some excess fabric.

Nu klik je het achterkantje tegen de gesp. Het pinnetje moet je even vastknijpen met een nijptang.

Now you can click the back part of the clasp in place, The pin needs to be attached with some pliers.

Voor de riem strijk je eerst de plakvlieseline tegen de binnenkant van de stof. Vouw de strook in de breedte dubbel (goede kanten op elkaar) en stik op 7 mm van de kant. Vergeet niet het uiteinde in een puntje weg te stikken (hoeft niet). Laat een korte kant open.

For the belt, you first need to iron a layer a cotton interfacing to the inside of the fabric strip you’ve cut to make the belt. Fold the strip widthwise, right sides together and stitch 1/4 inch along the edge. Don’t forget to stitch one end of the belt into a point. Leave one short end open.

Keer om (ik gebruik hiervoor het komme pincetje die je gebruikt om garen in je overlockmachine naalden te rijgen) en strijk plat.

Turn out the belt using a pair of tweezers. (you usually get one with an overlock machine to thread your machine). Once turned, press flat.

Door dit gaatje gaat het pinnetje zodat je de rand kunt omvouwen naar binnen en vastzetten. Nu even meten om je taille waar je de rest van de gaatjes wil. Deze maak je met de gaatjestang en een pakketje om zelf nestels te maken.

The pin on the clasp will go through the hole and you can fold in the open end of the belt and close it with a topstitch. Now measure on your waist where you want the holes. Puncture the holes with a pair of puncture pliers. Use an eyelet kit for the eyelets and follow the instructions.

Nu nog de lusjes: Vouw het strookje stof voor de lusjes aan beide kanten naar binnen en strijk plat.

For the loops: fold in the strip of fabric towards the middle. press flat.

Nu kun je met de brede tweelingnaald of je coverlock ( ook de setting gebruiken met twee naalden die het verst uit elkaar staan, deze gebruik ik later ook voor de zoom) aan de goede kant doorstikken.

Stich with a (wide) twin needle or a coverlock with the needles in the widest setting ( you can use this setting later on for the hem) on the right side of the loops.

Knip er nu 6 lusjes van.

Now cut it into 6 pieces.

Je speld de ene kant tussen de bovenkant van de rok en de tailleband.

One end will be sewn between the waistband and the top of the skirt.

Vervolgens zet je de tailleband met elastiek aan.

Then you sew your elasticated waistband.

Dan vouw je een randje van het lusje in en stikt het vast aan de bovenkant op de tailleband. Maak het lusje net iets wijder dan de ceintuur.

Fold in the top of the loop and fasten with a topstitch on top of the waistband. The loop should be just a little wider than the belt.

Now, the group is ready to release the eagerly-awaited concluding parts of the Phanerozoic journey.

For a preview of ‘Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic | Cenozoic‘, a video for the new single “Oligocene” (filmed by band members Loic Rossetti, David Ahfeldt, and Robin Staps, plus edited and animated by Craig Murray) can be viewed at the end of this article. The video was shot in the Aragats mountains in Armenia, during the band’s “Siberian Traps” tour in the summer of 2019, which brought them to Russia, Kazachstan, Armenia, Georgia, and Japan.

“We found this place by accident: the dilapidated ruins of a soviet observatory & research station for cosmic radiation,” comments guitarist and founding member Robin Staps. “The building itself looked like a spaceship that had crash-landed up high in the mountains, but there were lots of interesting structures scattered across the landscape: concrete cubes, underground tunnels, rusted machinery, fallen power poles and watchtowers. It all looked like taken straight out of Andrej Tarkovsky’s ‘Stalker’ movie,” concludes Staps, referring to the ingenious classic that was also the backbone of The Ocean’s 2013 album ‘Pelagial‘.

The instrumental track was written by drummer Paul Seidel, but recorded with synth player Peter Voigtmann on drums. It serves as a transitional track from the busy and heavy first half of the record (Mesozoic) into the more relaxed, spacious and cold ambient vibes prevailing on the second half of the record (Cenozoic). For a preview of the ‘Mesozoic‘ part of the album, the previously released track, “Jurassic | Cretaceous” (featuring Katatonia’s Jonas Renkse), can also be heard below in audio via Bandcamp, along with pre-ordering options for ‘Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic | Cenozoic‘.

Widely hailed as their finest work to date, ‘Phanerozoic I‘ brimmed with moments of wide-eyed melodic brilliance, alongside the expected warping and weaving of post-metal conventions. “The first part of ‘Phanerozoic’ really is a ‘no-regrets’ album, which is quite rare,” says guitarist Robin Staps. “Maybe even the first time I can ever say that.“

In contrast with the compositional directness of ‘Phanerozoic I‘, the new album – ‘Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic | Cenozoic‘ – is a vastly more progressive and perverse piece of work. “‘Phanerozoic II’ is more experimental, more eclectic in musical style and direction, and more varied in terms of tempos, beats, guitar work and the use of electronics,” notes Staps. “This was an intentional choice: we wanted Part I to feel rather streamlined and to have a strong cohesion between the individual songs. We wanted to create a certain vibe to linger from the first until the last note throughout the whole record. We kept the weirder, more daring and more progressive material for Part II.“

Tracked in Iceland, Spain, and Germany and produced by esteemed studio guru Jens Bogren, ‘Phanerozoic II‘ is underpinned by some of the most imaginative and challenging music that THE OCEAN – completed by drummer Paul Seidel, keyboard maestro Peter Voigtmann, bassist Mattias Hagerstrand, and guitarist David Ramis Åhfeldt – have made yet. Divided into two sections – Mesozoic and Cenozoic – the album once again showcases the detail and depth that have become two of THE OCEAN‘s most enduring trademarks. While ostensibly delving into the extraordinary realities of the Earth’s shifting temporal tides, Staps and his comrades have long drawn hazy parallels between their chosen subjects and the emotional experiences that their music strives to convey. ‘Phanerozoic II‘ is essentially an album about time, with some very poignant and pointed allusions to the modern world woven into the new music’s spiritual fabric.

Staps explains, “The outcome is a record that is a real journey. It starts in one place, and concludes in a totally different place. In a way, it relates to 2013’s ‘Pelagial’, which was similar in that it was also a journey: but a more guided, focused and predictable one. ‘Phanerozoic II’ on the other hand is closer to the experience of free fall.“

So many memories are made during this intimate chore and so many bathtub photos are taken to document for prosperity. In addition to the bath towel, you are going to want crib blankets and blankets for the stroller with your child’s name or initials.

What little girl doesn’t want their name written all over in a fun font (plenty of colours and styles to choose from) in a super comfy pair of leggings! I Know My Alphabet (an Etsy vendor) has become my new favourite go-to gift to get when a baby girl is born. It’s especially wonderful for a child who has older siblings because it becomes extremely obvious then that she is not stuck wearing her big brother or sister’s hand-me-downs. There is no denying these clothes were purchased especially for her and no one else.

No matter how many bibs you stock up on, you will always need at least a dozen more. Bibs are necessary for spit-up, protecting clothes when eating solids, wiping drool, the list goes on and on…..Pick some up whenever you see one that catches your eye and is a reflection of your style.  Velcro fastening bibs are quick to put on/take off are the best design.
