You don’t like a lot of things, like early mornings, school, tomato soup, and slow people on stairs. But the thing you hate the most is the alarm clock. You are sure that you already have PTSD from it because everytime you hear it, your body wants to shut down. Like right now.
You whined as your ears were met with the most annoying sound on earth. After turning it off you turned your face deep into the pillow. For a couple of minutes, it stopped but you knew it would soon come back.
With a groan, your legs fell onto the cold floor. You don´t have many lessons today, just one but you still couldn´t convince your body to wake up.
Slowly doing your morning routine, grabbing things you need for your lesson and you left. As you were locking your apartment´s door you saw Tara by the elevator. Quickly putting your keys into the pocket of your jeans you started to make your way to her direction.
Every morning you and her were practically overruning to the elevator, making the other one behind to wait.
Your flats are high and the elevator is unfortunately just one. The only way to go down would be to go down the endless stairs or to swallow your dislike towards the Carpenter and go with her. And that´s exactly what you were going to do.
Sadly Tara saw you, and as you were halfway toward her the elevator door suddenly opened. This was her chance, her chance to pay back you from yesterday.
The next thing you saw was Tara quickly going to the elevator and sending you her most annoying grin you have ever seen through the elevator doors that were slowly closing right between your face.
You ran as fast as you could but your body was met with the tough metal doors. And the next thing you could hear was Tara´s echoing laugh.
„That little-“You let out a groan as you punched the closed elevator door.
Forget about the things that were said in the beginning, the thing you most hated was Tara Carpenter.
-
„Hey Y/N! Why so late?“
Chad asked you with a curious face. Everyone was now sitting by the cafeteria in your university. Every morning you would meet there and start your day together, then split up for lessons if you didn´t have them together.
Your eyes shot to the Carpenter who was sitting by the end of the table, far from you. She was smirking to herself, trying to hide her laugh. You knew and she knew too.
„Nothing serious Chad, just some morning issues.“ You let out as you sat opposite Chad. His twin sister looked trying to figure out the cause of it but as soon as your eyes met Tara´s she understood.
It bothers Mindy, she wants all of her close ones to get along. How come you can´t just bury the war axe and at least accept the presence of one another? If not for you then for your friends.
Mindy can´t imagine the situation of having to choose between the two of you. She doesn´t even want to think about it, the thought of splitting your group into two camps.
You have all been friends since the first years of school. You would share all your classes and after school, you came to each other's houses and played till your parents called. As you got older your hobbies and behavior changed but your friendship stayed the same. Only there was a little problem, you two.
The thing is, despite you both hate each other you are almost the same. Tara has a short temper and you have anger issues. Just a small tinke from you or her and the volcanic eruption is born.
So Mindy took the role of the mother of her two stubborn kids.
-
Days went by and everything was the same. You were feeling like a mummy this past week because of the schoolwork. You were working your ass off because of the finals and wanting to do as great as you could you needed to pay with your sleep.
Right now you are in civics class. You don´t hate it but you don´t like it either. It is somewhere in the middle. You took this class partly because your friends were there but also because it wasn´t so hard. Yeah you are an idiot. But hand on your heart, who has never done that?
Unfortunately one of the things the students needed to do to pass the class besides the final exam was a group project.
You didn´t like this kind of stuff, especially with someone you barely know but thank God this won’t be your case.
Sitting in a chair one hand was supporting your head and the other was playing with a pen in your hand, spinning it around. You were sitting alone in the back of the class. Mindy diagonally to your left with Chad beside her. Tara was diagonally on your right sitting also alone.
„And for the upcoming project, you will be making groups of two people. Each group will have a different topic and it will be up to you how you will elaborate on it and how you will split your work. The next thing-“
You moved your eyes to Mindy but her back was towards you. The girl was talking to her brother who was nodding at something she was saying. She wouldn´t do this to you, right? Mindy was your partner, your friend, and your only hope for this class.
The class bell rang and with that, you stood up and made your way to her. „Will you pair with me on this project?“ you asked, almost sure that she would say yes.
„Sorry Y/N I´m already with Chad.“ You kept looking at her with open eyes. Did your best friend just betray you? „But you can be with Tara.“
The both of you turned to the spot that was occupied by the brunette and your gazes met.
No no no no no.
-
Looking up at your roof with a softball in your hand, not paying attention to what going on but also praying it will end as soon as possible. You were currently lying on your back in your bed while throwing the ball against the ceiling.
Your teacher gave you not much time on your project despite how large it needs to be. Unfortunately, there was no other way other than to do it fast. For the sake of both.
„Human rights are fundamental rights and freedoms that all individuals are entitled to regardless of their nationality, ethnicity, religion, gender, or other factors. They are inherent to all human beings and-“ Tara stopped. „I won´t do this all just by myself.“ She said without turning her head toward you.
Since she came to your apartment you were just quiet, keeping yourself on a leash. Tara was sitting on the ground of your room with the books and notebook around her. You refused to let her use your game computer or your chair, not trusting her with it which she called you crazy.
„You know if you keep doing this it will take much longer.“
You sighed and sat up. You were pretty calm today, Tara was almost enjoying it, only almost. You took one of her books and started to look for something useful to put into your project.
Tara shook her head at your behavior and continued. „An individual rights end where the other individual rights begin-“
„Something you infringed a long time ago.“ You muttered under your breath, reacting to her words. The short girl took a deep breath in and out.
Dick.
„It can be affected in a way of violence or abuse, meaning of physical, emotional, psychological abuse-“
„Damn, they should lock you up.“ Again you let out softly barely noticeable.
„Can you shut up?!“
„You wanted me to help!“
„But not with being an absolute ass!“
You stood up from your bed and pointed your finger at her. „Listen here, little lady.“
„Oh yeah? Come on tell me.“ She stood up from the ground and made her way toward you. Your angry faces were just centimeters from one another and your hands were formed into fists. Her big brown eyes were staring right into yours with rage. How badly you just wanted to-
You were cut off by the doorbell of your apartment. Both of your faces turned from the way the sound came to each other again with a confused look. Tara pushed you by your shoulders.
„Go! It´s your house!“ she whispered yelling at you.
As you opened the door you were met with the faces of your friends. They wanted to laugh at how weird and at the same time cute it looked, how Tara was right behind you, trying to see who the new intruder was.
„What are you guys doing here?“ you asked inquisitive. Not like you didn´t want them here but it was unexpected.
„Ha! Look at them! They don´t even want us here!“ Chad laughed. „Were you two in the middle of something?“ he asked as he kept raising his eyebrows up and down.
You and Tara looked horrified at the thought of something similar. „What?!“ „No!“
„I didn´t even say what I meant!“
Mindy shook her head and punched her brother in the back of his head before coming into your apartment with the rest of the group. She had a feeling that your meeting about the school project wouldn´t end up like she wanted it to. That’s why she called Chad and Anika to your flat to hang out.
-
A couple of days now passed by and your focus on study was growing every day. It was not like you were good at it, you didn´t like studying but also you enjoyed learning about new topics that were interesting to you.
Your father called you, asking how you were. You plan to see him in some close time. You missed him. Since started university, he was left almost alone in your hometown. It was not like he was complaining about it, or at least he didn´t say anything about it, but you knew him.
The thought of visiting him unexpectedly made you excited and at least that was something that made you look for something. Not thinking about school only.
Your friendship with Tara was also changing, without your notice. You didn´t argue like you used to. Yeah, still there are times when you two jump into each other's hair, like every day, but not so often.
It´s like an unspoken task that has to be fulfilled. The day wouldn´t be complete if you didn´t fight at least once a day.
The only people that noticed the little changes were your friends. It was really fun for them. When Mindy told everyone about you they couldn´t believe it. So they started to observe and yeah, she was right.
There was still some bickering between you two but it just has to be there. That wouldn´t be you.
Right now you were standing at someone´s party. Your back towards the wall, cup in your hand just looking around the people in the room. You weren’t that much drunk, almost sober. Your friends were somewhere scattered around.
You came together but as the alcohol was coming down the throat more and more they went everyone on their own. You didn´t feel like babysitting your friends today.
The house also wasn´t that big, there were people from your university and they were adults so it wasn´t like something would happen to them.
You were talking with one of your friends from the class, Ethan. He was a good guy, he grew close to your heart.
Then you catch Chad lying on the couch with his drink in hand and something across his face. You squinted your eyes at him and started to come a little closer and as soon as you were beside him you broke into a fit of laughter.
„Oh my God Chad.“ You laughed at your friend who had barely opened their eyes. He saw you and smiled wide at you.
„Y/N! I´m so glad I see you.“
He had some signs drawn with markers across his face. He had big circles around his eyes like glasses and mustache. On his forehead was written, “Even a little wizard can do big magic“.
„How do you feel buddy?“ you tapped his shoulder as you were looking at him with a smile across your face. He was hilarious.
„I feel super great Y/N, will you drink with me?“ he asked as he sat up on a couch and was now trying to get some bottle of alcohol from the table.
„Nah I don´t think-“ You wanted to decline his offer but he cut you off.
„Please, just one.“ He gave you big puppy eyes and you sighed. Chad was one of the guys that when they were drunk they weren´t aggressive but affectionate. How could you say no to him?
After your shot with Chad, you saw Mindy coming to her brother to take him home. She didn´t forget to laugh at his face as she saw him.
In a moment you also saw Tara chatting with some guy. She was smiling up at him as he was flirting with her. You suddenly felt goosebumps running down your spine, you shook your body at the disgusting sigh.
You didn´t care about who was Tara with, it was her life and her body. She could do whatever she wanted. It just made you disgusted in some way. Maybe because she was in your friend group? You didn´t know.
You threw your cup into the trash can and left the party.
-
Tara was walking to her home. When she didn´t see anywhere her friends and was starting to get bored she also started to make her way home. The girl saw what state Chad was and she knew he wouldn´t be able to go home by himself. So that was minus Chad and Mindy with Anika. You were also there but she barely saw you so she figured you went also home.
As she was getting close to her apartment she was trying to find the key.
No. Please no.
She doesn´t have them. The brunette must forget them inside. When Tara was leaving her house Sam was still home getting ready for work, she closed the door behind her.
Tara breathed out the air from the lungs and slid down the door. Sam will surely kill her when she finds out. But what now? She can´t just sleep in a hallway. Maybe she could try to go in by the window-
Of course not, she isn´t in a movie and their apartment is high. That would be dangerous.
Her eyes fell on the apartment´s door beside her. She hated the idea, it would crush her ego and everything inside of her. Tara was already really embarrassed by the situation she put herself into. It couldn´t be worse, right?
With heavy steps and heart, she was making her way toward your door. She knocked a couple of times, it was late so it was a big possibility you were sleeping already.
Just when she wanted to go back to her door you opened it. Your hair was a bit messy and you were wearing a big white shirt with some pants. Big sleepy eyes of yours were staring at her, processing what was happening.
Tara´s words were stuck in her throat. Like she was caught doing something that was forbidden.
„Hey- I forgot my keys and- I just wanted to ask-“
The girl sighed, she didn´t know what to say. She already regretted her decision to knock on your door. This was so embarrassing.
„If you could sleep over.“ You ended her sentence with crossed arms across your chest.
Despite how you and Tara act towards each other you would never let her sleep somewhere. Maybe also because you appreciate Sam and you know how Sam loves and adores her little sister.
„Come in.“ You opened your door wider for her to come. Tara couldn´t believe you. Really? Just like that without any comebacks and mocking words? Maybe you were too sleepy for that.
You made your way to your room brought a pillow and blanked with some of your clothes that are already small on you. You threw it on a couch and gave the clothes to Tara. „Here, you can change into this.“ Was this even you?
„And you will sleep on a couch. Don’t bother me.“
Yes, it was you.

You sat emotionless on the hospital bed as the doctor finished stitching up your shoulder. They had done the wound on your side first, the doctor said you got lucky, the knife had just barely missed your ribs. Luckily it only hurt when you breathed or moved. You let out a hiss as the doctor did his last stitch. He smiled at you and told you when to come back to get the stitches out, not that you really heard him, you couldn’t stop replaying what happened in your head, you couldn’t stop seeing Dewey’s face.
You looked down when you felt a squeeze on your hand, then lifted your gaze to see Tara watching you with a worried expression. You wanted to offer her a smile, something to comfort her, to show you were okay, but you couldn’t even manage that. She stood up as best as she could with her crutches and carefully wrapped her arm around you. You just let your head drop to her shoulder, you didn’t even have it in you to break down. The only good thing to come from the attack was that Ghostface didn’t touch Tara, he didn’t get her again, you kept him away long enough, that was the one thing you actually did right. You couldn’t protect Dewey, you couldn’t run to his aid, but you saved Tara, you were just trying to hold onto that, you weren’t a complete failure at least.
Tara leaned back, caressing your face as she stared into your eyes. “What’s going through your head?” she asked softly.
The death of the father you just learned about. That’s all that was going through your mind. The death of the man who gave you chance after chance, the guy who finally smacked sense into you and made you get your shit together.
“Can we just get the fuck out of here?” You asked.
Tara nodded and sat back down in her wheelchair, laying her crutches across her lap. You got behind the wheelchair and began to push her out the door despite her protests that you could rip open your stitches already. When the two of you got to the waiting room you saw Sam talking to Gale and some other woman. When Gale’s eyes landed on you, she pushed past Sam to make her way towards you and Tara.
“Are you okay?” Gale asked as soon as she was close enough. “I’m so sorry, I-”
“Just stop,” you said harshly. You didn’t miss the way Gale flinched, you just didn’t care, just like you didn’t care that her eyes were red, she probably just stopped crying not too long ago. “Don’t pretend to care.”
“I do care,” she said softly.
“Well, I don’t, so if you don’t mind, we’re getting the fuck out of here.”
“What?” The woman who had been standing with Gale and Sam asked. “You can’t just leave. Look, you’ve been through a lot recently,” she flicked a glance at Gale. “I can’t imagine what you must be feeling, but I do know what it’s like to be targeted by this asshole.” That’s when it clicked for you, this wasn’t some random woman, it was Sidney Prescott. “We could really use your help taking him down.”
“Fuck that,” you shook your head. “Sorry, but no. This,” you gestured around the room. “Isn’t about me. So, I’m taking Tara and we’re getting the hell out of here.”
“Okay,” Sidney nodded. “Be careful.”
“Thank you.” You looked at Sam who seemed conflicted. “You’re welcome to join us,” you directed at her. “Your Tara’s sister after all.”
“Let’s get the fuck out of here,” Sam said instantly. She texted Richie to pull the car up.
You were sure Sam had the same thought as you, now that Tara got attacked twice there was no way she’d stay in town. Sam might not have been your favorite person, but you weren’t about to keep Tara from her sister, especially if Sam was actually willing to stick around this time.
“Alright let’s get the fuck out of this town,” Richie said as he pulled up. You rolled your eyes as he quickly started apologizing to Gale and Sidney.
You glared at Richie when he tried to take over helping Tara, but he quickly let go of the wheelchair and backed up. “I’ll get the bags?” He said it more like a question as he took Tara’s crutches and backpack to sit in the back seat.
Tara gave you a disapproving look, but you caught the small smile on her face. She might not have been happy with you straining yourself already, but she appreciated it. As gently as you could you wrapped one arm around her and helped her slide into the back seat. You spared Gale and Sidney one last glance as they finished talking to Sam.
You were pressed against the door on the right side in the backseat to give Tara as much room as she needed to stretch out her injured leg. As much as you would have loved to be on the other side of her, with her leaning on you, that was her injured side.
“What’s wrong?” You asked when you noticed Tara searching her backpack in a panic.
“What’s going on?” Sam asked, glancing back from the passenger seat.
“I can’t find my inhaler,” Tara said. Her breathing was already getting shallow at simply the idea of not having her inhaler.
“Can we stop somewhere?” You couldn’t blame Sam, the last thing you wanted to do was turn around. You wanted to get out of town as quick as possible and stop somewhere outside of town if you could.
“I need a prescription,” Tara shook her head.
“There’s a spare at my place,” you offered. You always kept a spare inhaler at your place, you never wanted anything to happen when Tara was staying the night or if she was at your apartment alone while she waited for you to get off work or come back with dinner.
“That’s on the opposite side of town. Wait,” her eyes snapped up. “Amber, I have another spare at Ambers.” You wanted to roll your eyes but even you had to admit Amber's place was more convenient, it was actually on the way out of town.
“No, no way,” Richie said, shaking his head. As much as you didn’t want to stop you knew how much Tara needed her inhaler.
“It’s on the way.”
Richie started to shake his head until his eyes landed on Sam. “Please?” She pleaded. “She needs it.”
“Fuck it, where does Amber live?”
A few minutes after Tara gave Richie the address, he was pulling up outside Amber’s house. You helped Tara out of the car and handed her her crutches, making sure to stand close by as you made your way to the front door, which was wide open. Amber was having a party, typical, of course she’d have a party when a psycho was on the loose.
Tara entered the house instantly after Richie and Sam, you couldn’t help but hesitate at the door. You knew where Amber lived because you had picked up and dropped Tara off multiple times, but you had never been in her house. With Ghostface looming in the darkness you couldn’t help but be on edge as you slowly stepped into the house.
You lingered in the background watching as Tara talked to Amber. You furrowed your brow when Amber started yelling that the party was over, Amber wasn’t usually the type to end a party early, especially one she was throwing. You then watched as Tara followed Amber, as everyone else in the house slowly filed their way out the front door.
You waited in the entryway with Sam, having no desire to wander around Amber’s house. Richie wandered off towards the kitchen, saying he was going to find something to drink. You just leaned back against the door and waited for Tara to come back while watching Sam pace back and forth.
You pulled out your phone when you felt it start to vibrate, you furrowed your brow for a second when you saw it was Gale calling you. You ignored the initial confusion and tapped to decline the call with an eyeroll. Almost as soon as you hung up on Gale Sam pulled out her phone.
“Who is it?” you asked.
“Unknown,” she said, holding up her phone for you to see.
“If it’s Gale hang up.”
Sam raised an eyebrow at your request but swiped to answer the call. “How do you know where I am?” Sam asked whoever was on the phone making you furrow your brow.
“Who is it?” you whispered.
Sam’s eyes widened at whatever the person on the phone was saying. Then she took off, yelling up the stairs for Tara. “What’s going on?” you grabbed her by the shoulder and spun her around.
“We’re in Stu Macher’s house,” Sam said. Your eyes went wide as soon as she said the name. Your eyes started darting around the house, you knew Tara lost her inhaler but there was no way all of you ended up at Stu Macher’s old house was a coincidence.
You stuck closely to Sam as she went around the house searching for Richie until the both of you ended up in the living room. “Holy shit,” you said when you saw Mindy bleeding out on the ground.
Sam instantly ran to Mindy’s side, pressing her hands against the wound. “Do something!” she yelled.
You nodded, your fingers stumbling as you grabbed your phone to call for help. You had just brought the phone to your ear when Tara and Amber came into the room. “What did you do?” Amber yelled, running over to Sam and Mindy, making Sam back away from Mindy.
“We found her like that,” Sam defended.
“Oh my god!” Richie said as he came into the room. You narrowed your eyes; you and Sam had gone through the entire bottom floor of the house and didn’t see him anywhere.
“Where were you?” you asked.
“The basement.”
“Alone?” Sam asked.
“Tara and I were together, but all of you are suspects!” Amber said, cutting off whatever Richie was going to say to defend himself.
“I was with Sam,” you said. “You’re the only one unaccounted for,” you looked at Richie.
“You and Sam together isn’t really a solid alibi,” Amber snapped. “Maybe you’re both the killer.”
Everyone continued arguing back and forth until Liv came into the room, hands raised and covered in blood as tears streamed down her face, smudging her mascara. “Liv,” you said slowly. “Why are you covered in blood?”
“I-I-” Liv sobbed. “I-I found Chad.” You could swear everyone held in their breath as you waited for what Liv was going to say next. “He-he was stabbed.”
“You’re the killer,” Richie said.
“I’m not the killer.”
“You’re the killer,” Amber repeated what Richie said.
“Amber, I’m not the fucking killer!” Liv snapped, tears still falling from her eyes.
“I know,” Amber said emotionlessly.
The next thing you knew Amber pulled out a gun and fired a bullet right between Liv’s eyes. She instantly pointed the gun at Sam, but Tara dropped one of her crutches and grabbed Amber’s hand, making the bullet go into the wall. While Amber was occupied Richie grabbed Sam’s hand and dragged her out of the room.
You ran towards Amber and Tara but as soon as you pulled Amber off Tara, she stabbed you in the gut, giving you a twisted smile. You heard Tara scream your name as you collapsed to the floor. You pushed yourself up and began to scoot back away from Amber, Tara was clinging onto her arm, making her unable to aim the gun still in her hand.
Amber whipped her hand back, knocking Tara into the wall. Amber raised her gun at you but as quickly as you could you crawled to the side of the couch, ducking as a few bullets entered the couch just above your heard. You pressed your hand to your new stab wound as you listened for more shots.
You weren’t sure how long you waited, it felt like seconds, but you were sure it had been longer than that when you realized you didn’t hear gunshots anymore, you didn’t hear anything. You risked peeking your head out to see Amber was gone, as well as Tara. You gripped the back of the couch, trying to use it to help pull yourself to your feet. As soon as you were standing someone appeared in the doorway, aiming a gun right at your head. You raised one blood hand, keeping the other on the wound as you stared down the barrel of a gun held by Sidney Prescott.
“It’s Amber,” you said, your eyes unable to leave the gun still pointed at you.
“I know,” Sidney said. “Stay here.” She gave you one last suspicious look before slowly making her way up the stairs.
You don’t know how long you stood there, leaning against the couch, you closed your eyes, meaning to just focus on your breathing but when you opened them again Amber was standing in front of you. You didn’t have time to process what was happening before Amber held her knife to your throat and shoved you in the direction of the kitchen.
When you stumbled into the kitchen you saw Gale, nursing a wound of her own, and Sidney already there. A couple seconds later Richie came in, shoving Sam to the ground. You grabbed Sam’s arm, quickly helping her to her feet and pulling her back towards the counter.
Richie and Amber looked at each other smiling, before pulling each other into a kiss. Richie kept his gun pointed at Sam while Amber dropped her knife to her side, the second Sidney tried to get around them though Amber broke the kiss and stabbed Sidney in the side.
You should have seen all this coming, you never liked Amber and Richie was suspicious from the moment you met him. You never imagined they would be in it together though, and definitely never could have imagined them dating. You always assumed Amber had a thing for Tara and was jealous of you.
“Why are you doing this?” Sidney asked.
“Because the latest sequel to Stab sucked!” Richie snapped.
You lifted your eyes to look at him, you were hoping you were bleeding out and a consequence was hard of hearing, there was no way these two assholes killed a bunch of people all because they were pissed about a movie.
“Richie and I met online,” Amber said, smiling up at him. “We quickly realized we shared similar ideas.”
“Didn’t take us long to come up with our own movie,” Richie said. “Wasn’t hard to find you in Modesto,” he shrugged, looking at Sam. “But you,” he pointed his knife at you. “You were a surprise.”
“But you can find out anything if you dig deep enough,” Amber said. “It’s a small town, secrets aren’t exactly secret,” she chuckled. “One whisper of someone saying Gale Weathers was in town,” she looked at Gale. “And didn’t take much after that. Going back,” she nodded to herself. “Your old interviews, your old episodes, it was clear something was off.”
“So, what’s the plan?” Sam asked. “Kill everyone? Make me your little hero?”
Richie burst out laughing at Sam’s suggestion. “Oh, you’re serious?” he said, clearing his throat. “Oh, sweetheart, you’re the villain, he gave her a devilish smile.
“Think about it!” Amber screamed; her eyes wide with excitement like you had never seen before. “What better movie is there? The secret daughter of the original mastermind,” she pointed her knife at Sam.
“And the secret daughter of two of the original survivors,” Richie continued, his smile matching Amber’s.
“Lied to her entire life,” Richie said, taunting Sam. “Until she discovered the truth,” he gestured with his hand at Sam, a glimmer in his eye. “And decided to exact her revenge.”
“Thrown away like trash, abandoned, never to be thought of again,” Amber continued, looking you directly in the eye. “Then learns the truth,” she smiled, pointing her knife at you. “And decides to get revenge.”
“It’s a revenge story!” Amber squealed. She actually did a little jump, as if she were giddy about the idea of you and Sam teaming up to kill a bunch of people. “Agh! It’s so good!”
“You’re insane,” Gale said.
“No!” Amber whipped around, raising her knife as if she were going to stab Gale again. “We’re fans! We just want to save the movie that inspired us.”
“You’re crazy,” Gale shook her head.
“And you’re a bad mother.” The next thing you knew a knife was shoved in your side. You lifted your head, opening your mouth only to cough up blood. “You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to do this,” Amber whispered, twisting the knife that was still in you. “After we rid ourselves of you and Sam,” she wrinkled her nose in disgust. “Tara will be all mine.”
Despite your current situation you laughed, you couldn’t help it, Amber said the funniest thing in the world after all. “You really are crazy,” you rasped out, coughing up a bit more blood in the process. “Tara will never love you.” You made sure to stare Amber directly in the eye as the words left your mouth, the consequences be damned.
Amber let out what you could only describe as a snarl before pulling the knife out only to shove it back in again, and again, and again. You started gurgling on the blood in your mouth, you weren’t sure when you lost count of how many times Amber stabbed you. When she finally stepped away you just collapsed to the floor.
You were only partially aware of the others trying to come to your aid, only to be met with a knife or a gun to their head. You tried to pull yourself to your feet but as soon as you got up on wobbly legs a sharp pain ripped through your knee, sending your straight back to the floor. Your hand went to your knee, instantly being met with the wet stickiness of blood. You rolled over, holding your knee, your eyes pinched shut, you didn’t even have it in you to scream.
When you opened your eyes, you were instantly met with a gun in your face. Amber let out a scoff and walked away. You weren’t sure what happened after that, you decided maybe just bleeding out on the floor was the best-case scenario. You saw blurry figures going back and forth, you were in and out of consciousness, every time you blinked it took you longer to open your eyes again, you could barely hear the muffled sounds of what you assumed was the others fighting.
Everything was silent, you could barely keep your eyes open, you just wanted to close them and rest. You felt a weight hit your chest, forcing you to open your eyes again. You could just barely make out the blurry image of Tara, it almost looked like she was crying, you weren’t sure why, she was safe, she was alive, there was nothing to be sad about. You saw her lips moving but couldn’t hear the words she was saying. Tara’s face was the last thing you saw before everything finally went black.

Tara x Fem!Reader,
They have been together for over a month now, laying in Tara's bed, watching a movie then Tara starts teasing R with cheesy pick up lines.
Like:
• Are you a camera? Because every time I look at you, I smile!
• That shirt looks great on you… as a matter of fact, so would I.
• There must be a light switch on my forehead because every time I see you, you turn me on!
• There must be a light switch on my forehead because every time I see you, you turn me on!
• If your upper lip is Christmas and your lower lip is Thanksgiving, can I come visit any time in between?
Then R teases back
• I’m an adventurer and I want to explore you.
And.... don't know about the ending! I just thought this would be a fluffy/funny one shot!
Thank you so much for taking requests, it's totally okay if you don't want to do this!

Tara Carpenter x female Reader
Summary: You and Tara can't help but be silly.
Masterlist
Word count: 1.1k
It was official, you should never pick a random movie to watch. It was cheesy, over the top acting, so bad it was actually kinda funny, oh, well, at least you were having fun laughing at how ridiculous everything was. And then it happened. The main character, whose name you'd very quickly forget went and said it. The cheesiest pick up line of them all. "I swear someone stole the stars from the sky and put them in your eyes."
The poor girl he was trying to seduce was wearing sunglasses...
Tara leaned on your shoulder, shaking with laughter as she slapped your knee. "On no! Why would he say something like that?!" she laughed so loud you were afraid Sam would barge in, and let's just say Sam wasn't all that ready to accept you and Tara were together, even though it's already been a month since you and Tara confessed your feelings for one another and started dating. It’s not that she hated you, she was just very, very careful and you still didn’t get the chance to prove you were trustworthy.
Well, considering what the two sisters went through you couldn't say you blamed Sam, if you were in her place you'd be suspicious of anyone new as well.
You worked to get Tara’s trust, and that took a lot of effort, and you’d work for Sam’s trust as well, because you were head over heels for the girl next to you.
"That was awful," you laughed with Tara and hugged her, pulling her down on the bed, the awful movie forgotten. It peaked, that was it, nothing could top the ridiculousness of that line.
"Y/N," Tara began once she caught her breath.
"Yeah?" you turned to look at her and saw the mischievous grin on her face.
"Are you a camera? Because every time I look at you, I smile!" she said it all proud and eager to see your reaction and you just lost it.
"Damn it, Tara!" you snickered, burying your face in the pillow to muffle the sounds.
"I have more," she leaned in while you were still snickering. "Are you an inhaler? Because I need you to breathe," she whispered, making sure she whispered it right in your ear.
Your breath hitched for a moment as she lightly bit your earlobe. "Yeah? Are you an alarm clock? 'Cause I want you to wake me up every morning," you replied, causing her to giggle in your ear, and though you loved hearing her giggles you turned around and brushed her lips with the tip of your thumb. "Your lips look a bit dry, let me be your lip balm."
Tara grinned but leaned down to kiss you gently, she kissed you a few times, going from soft, innocent pecks, to a slow, sensual kiss.
"Mhm, if your upper lip is Christmas and your lower lip is Thanksgiving, can I come visit any time in between?" she tugged at your lower lip gently with her teeth and then kissed you again, this time slipping her tongue inside your mouth.
"No wonder the sky looks so dark, all the stars are right here," you said when you separated and moved to kiss her freckles. When you pulled away you saw her blushing, her eyes wide and lips parted slightly.
"That shirt looks great on you… as a matter of fact, so would I." she said, her hand sliding up your stomach underneath your shirt.
"Well, that escalated quickly," you grinned and pulled her so she was on top of you. "I must be ticklish, 'cause you tickled my fancy."
She snorted at that. "Got any more?" she poked your chest and smiled when you nodded.
"Apologize to polar bears. You're so hot their ice is melting," you said with a grin so cheesy you should put it on a pizza.
Tara covered her eyes, as if she couldn’t believe what you just said, but you could see the wide smile on her face. "There must be a light switch on my forehead because every time I see you, you turn me on!"
And you decided to match her. "I’m an adventurer and I want to explore you," you whispered softly in her ear and grinned as she blushed once more.
"Your battery is running low," she started laughing before she even finished saying whatever came to her mind. And with how infectious her laugh was to you you couldn't help but laugh with her. Tara laughing like this, so hard and damn near out of control, it was precious to you, and she looked even more beautiful when she laughed. "I think you should plug it in me," she exclaimed through laughter.
You choked, eyes wide and blood rushing to your face as she said that. She kept laughing but you froze completely, processing what she just said and then you just burst out laughing once more. "That was awful!" you laughed, flipping the two of you around and burying your face in her neck as you tried to stop your laughter only to fail miserably and laugh even harder.
And Tara wasn't doing any better as she gasped for air from how hard she was laughing. "Okay, yeah, I think I can't top that," she confessed as her laughter subsided.
"I can top you though," you said without missing a beat, sending both of you into another fit of laughter.
Neither of you knew that maybe, just maybe, Sam did wake up, and she was annoyed at first, but hearing Tara laughing the way she was right now... well, it made her accept you a bit more. You were making Tara much happier than she was in a long time, and for now that enough for Sam to at least stop glaring at you. She wouldn’t trust you just yet, but it truly looked like you loved Tara with all your heart.
Tara certainly loved you back. Ever since you and her got together Tara laughed more, and she laughed harder than she ever did before getting together with you. You were good for Tara, and Sam could only hope that it was genuine, because she could see it, she knew Tara let you in completely.
“I love you,” she heard your muffled confession and she could imagine Tara smiling, so, with Tara telling you she loved you too, Sam went back to her bedroom.
A/N: Damn, this was fun to write, hope you enjoyed this half as much as I enjoyed writing this 😁😁

Part 2?
Tara Carpenter x G!p!reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A fight between Tara and Sam is always hell, both trying to always be right which made it all go in a constant circle. You were usually the main cause of them and because of that they seemed to be getting more and more frequent as Tara healed over time after Woodsboro. The aftermath was always you having to listen to Tara rant in your own apartment not too far from their shared one.
And every time you took it upon yourself to tell Sam she was with you knowing the older carpenter was probably freaking out each second Tara was gone. She tried to hate you for it — how you would rage along whenever she would sneak off to parties or sneak into their apartment or sneak Tara out — but it was no use, you were too sweet and always protected Tara so she settled for subtle glares and small comments whenever you were near.
The relationship itself confused Sam and many others around you. While you were quiet and reserved, Tara was out going and wanted to be out there. Which made her wonder why you just followed her where ever she decided to go.
Let’s not forget the size difference. How could she? When she first met you at the hospital she had to admit, she was both surprised and intimidated but you seemed to be far more intimidated by the older sister. Your personality was completely different from your looks which made everything far more confusing to the girl.
How can someone so big be so soft for her grumpy short sister? She had no clue.
But here you say on the couch at a random costume party hosted by some chick you’ve never met with a red solo cup full something you didn’t dare ask when Chad gave it to you in your black tank top and orange cargo pants dressed as a prisoner, per Tara’s request to match her. It was Tara’s way of rebelling against her sister and to prove that she was her own woman.
Music blaring loudly, the entire house dark with flashing lights, and people moved and danced closely. Something you weren’t fond of but still went along with the group because Tara seemed so excited about it.
In the dark room you catch sight of Chad in his zombie football player costume, a classic and boring one but then again it was last second. And not too far behind him was Ethan in his… Yoshi costume… the large hat stuck out and you began to realize why he didn’t have a girlfriend, he made up for it with his awkward charm though.
You had a few shots with the two and allowed Chad to make you a drink mixed with different things you dare not drink out of before slipping away onto the empty couch.
That left Mindy, Anika and Tara who were most likely somewhere playing a game having something to do with alcohol.
Suddenly, a girl in a Mario costume takes a seat next to you. At least she could have made it look cute, it was just a red t-shirt with an ‘M’ on it and black shorts.
Another group stood nearby watching and giggling. You notice another girl who wore the same thing but as Luigi. Oh great.
A few beats of silence goes by before she speaks. “Hey, do I know you from somewhere?” she asks with a smile before leaning in and as soon as she does your nose is filled with her excessive amount of body spray. Not even the good kind.
“Uh,” you start before looking through out the dark room to see if you can find any of your friends but not even Ethan’s Yoshi hat was in sight. “No, I don’t think so?” You say, slightly scooting away from the girl and sipping your drink, face scrunching up after taking your first sip not knowing how strong it really was.
Another best of silence, the music sending vibrations through your body. “Oh, I know!” She yells and you flinch slightly, not sure how she managed to make her voice louder than the music that shook the house but she did.
“You’re that cute tall girl in my astronomy class!” She says and your eyes snap to the side giving her a side eye glare. You didn’t recognize her from the class but then again you didn’t exactly pay attention to the people, not trusting anyone enough to make new friends.
Now you see what Sam meant when she called you ‘anti-social Godzilla’ the other night when Tara made you stay the night with her.
“You, like, sit in the back of the class.” She says excitedly and scoots a little closer. Too close for comfort, your face scrunches up slightly from the mass amount of perfume wafted into your face as she gets closer, saying something you could no longer hear as the music suddenly got louder and the DJ spoke into his mic.
“Huh?” You call out as her mouth continued to move but nothing really comes out or rather you don’t hear anything. This seems to make her move closer, a bad choice in the eyes of the brunette who watched not too far away.
Anger couldn’t describe what she was feeling as she watched the girl lean closer toward you. She would never admit to being jealous out loud but here she was, watching your face scrunch up as you tilt your head at the girl.
It wasn’t often she felt this way, not at all. Even before you started dating you didn’t show any interest in anyone else but her and that’s exactly how she got you to ask her out so she didn’t have to. And even now she trusted you never to betray her trust but that didn’t stop others from pursuing you anyway.
And that made her blood boil. How could they not know your taken with the necklace that had her initials on it? Or the fact that you had faint hickeys on your neck left by her? Maybe they just took advantage of the fact that you were a push over or they were just dumb.
That’s what this blonde bitch must have been. Straight up dumb.
She had seen her staring at you on campus and made it her mission to show that you were together by being all over you. Holding your hand, hugging you, kissing you, sitting in your lap, all of it. But apparently that just wasn’t enough.
“I think we should jump her.” Mindy says out of no where, face close to Tara’s to see what she was looking at. She was slightly crouched down and looked stupid doing so in her miles morales spider man suit as it bunched up in different places.
“Me too.” Tara huffs out as she crosses her arms, a small smirk appears on her faces as you pull away as the girl gets closer.
“Or you could just intervene without getting physical by pulling Y/N away.” Anika interjects in her spider Gwen outfit as she takes a shot.
“I like Mindy’s idea better.” Tara says, narrowing her eyes as the girl gets closer once again. “I’ll start by pushing her down and we can start kicking, Anika can record.” Mindy gums out as she stands up straight.
Tara definitely liked the idea, and even more so when the girl placed her hand on your arm.
“Don’t instigate, you’ll make her want to lock up Y/N for the night.” Anika hits Mindys chest as she gets closer, holding another shot before gesturing to Tara’s police costume.
Tara’s eyes light up at the idea and suddenly she was glad she went full cop mode with her costume. Taser and pepper spray that Sam forced her to carry around on her hips along with a radio, fake gun or rather it’s holster, and a pair of hand cuffs.
Oh, she definitely liked that idea and Anika smirked at the face Tara made when she suggested the idea.
Tara quickly took the handcuffs out of her belt loop and cuffed one of her wrist before making a beeline for you and just in time for the girl to get even closer. This fueled her speed of getting to you.
“Shoot me a thumbs up if you change your mind and want to go with plan A!” She heard Mindy’s voice faintly as the music blared in her ears.
As soon as she was close enough she hooked the other half of the hand cuffs onto the wrist the was holding your drink and locked it in, she then let go and stood up proud of herself as she glanced at you.
A confused look was spread across your face as you stared down at the hand cuffs connecting the two of you before looking up to her.
She couldn’t help but smile as a dark shade spread across your cheeks as you stared up at her, eyes wide and confused.
Her eyes snap to the girl before narrow at the annoyed look on her face. Why was she annoyed for flirting with her girlfriend. Tara felt the growing need to look back to Mindy and give her that thumbs up.
“Oops,” she says, voice sharp as she glares at the girl. “I slipped.” She sarcastically through gritted teeth as the girl rolls her eyes.
Who did this chick think she was? She couldn’t have thought you would even think about her with that basic ass costume and paint for make up.
“Don’t you have a key or something?” The girl says back, voice full of annoyance. She knew what she was doing and that was enough to make Tara want to be ghostface herself.
“I left them at home.” Tara replies before yanking your hand up to pull you up but it only caused you to drop the drink onto the floor.
“I’m thirsty and you’re all out.” She says her eyes snapping back to you as your eyes focus on the red seeping into the carpet on the floor. “Let’s go get a drink.”
You quickly got the memo when Tara pulled again but less harshly before standing up.
She smiles slightly up at you before sending the girl one last glare before slipping her bandaged and cuffed hand into yours and pulling you away.
“You slipped, huh?” You ask in a teasing tone as Tara pushes through the crowd with a huff. You apologize to the people who look back at her with a glare and move past them without bumping into them as Tara continued to shove her way through with slight resistance but she got through eventually with enough force.
“I am quite clumsy.” She replies as you near Mindy and Anika who have started a game of cup pong with two boys.
“Y/N! Great to see we didn’t have to jump a few girls to save your socially awkward ass.” Mindy replies before looking down to you and Tara’s cuffed hands.
“I didn’t take you for the kinky kind of couple.” Mindy says wiggling her eye brows before laughing when Anika hits her chest.
Tara’s eyes lightly up for a moment before quickly hiding it and smiling. Another idea for later.
Another wave of heat fills your face as you look down at Tara. Her police her was too large for her and was tilting slightly as she smirked not bothering to fix it. You would have thought it was adorable but at the moment you were a little embarrassed. “Did you actually leave the keys at home or we’re you joking?” You lean down and whisper into her as the music continues to blare, the action made her shiver lightly as her ears tinted with a pink hue.
“Oh, I have them.” She says casually as she picks up her drink she had before rushing off to get you. “But I’m not unlocking the cuffs until we get home.” She says as she holds up a red solo cup to her lips as leans into your front as she watches the game of cup pong.
You sigh out before smiling at her sudden possessiveness. It was often you got to see it but every time it always made you feel special that she wanted you all to herself.
You chuckle lightly before wrapping your arm around her and watching the game yourself as you rub her skin and bandage soothingly to help calm the girl down.
————
“Wait, just slow dow-“ you start as Tara pulls your wrist harshly as she climbs up her fire escape as quietly as possible before letting out a hiss as the cuffs pinch you lightly.
“Shit! Sorry, sorry..” she says as she lowers her wrist so you no longer felt the force of being pulled up. She had insisted on keeping the cuffs on and you were beginning to wonder if she actually had the keys.
You had been pulled around all night so your wrist weren’t exactly fond of the smaller girl, especially when she made you fall a few times through out the night and pull herself down with you.
“Why didn’t you just take them off before we started crawling up?” You whisper yell as she continues her way up, her back side pressed up against your front now and you can’t help the blush the forms as her ass presses up against your pelvis area.
“I wasn’t thinking!” She whisper yells back as you both make it up to her window. “Plus, it’s cute when you blush like that.” She giggles as your face grows redder before pulling you into her room.
The lights were off in the hall around the apartment as you slipped in and nothing seemed disturbed other than the fact that you and Tara would have a hangover in the morning but you could cover that up easily.
You sigh out as you take a seat on the bed and Tara fumbles into her pocket before pulling out the keys and unlocking the cuffs with a small frown.
You rub your wrist as you watch her make her way toward her closet, peeling off clothes as she did so.
You smile lightly as you watch her pull down one of the hoodies you gave her and pull it over her head before pulling down your cargo pants and letting them hit the floor.
She quickly makes her way back to you as you scoot up the bed before straddling your waist and burying her face into your neck and letting out a soft but long sigh. You chuckle lightly as you wrap your arms around her
She felt exhausted after pulling you around most of the night, keeping you close as you danced and drank the night away. But now she was regretting it slightly as her wrist aches and her body relaxed into you as you scratched her back.
She let out another sigh before her mind wandered back to the girl who had the audacity to try her shot with you. She slowly felt the jealousy creeping back up into her and her exhaustion left as she bit you lightly.
Your body jolts slightly as her teeth connect to your skin and she can’t help but smirk as she feels something move on your lower abdomen.
“Tara…” you say in a warning tone as she eyes the hand cuffs on her bed side table. “It’s late and everyone’s asleep, so we should be too.” You sigh out as your grip tightens on the smaller girl, blush creeping into your face as you feel your own erection push against your boxers and onto her.
To this day you are astonished by this small girls strength and speed as she pulls out of your grasp and grabs something off the table. You let out another before a loud clinking catches your attention as she slides up from your waist to straddle your stomach.
Your eyes snap to her hands as she grabs your wrist and pushes them against her bed frame, slipping one cuff on and sliding it behind the railing and slips it onto your other.
You stare up, shocked by the sudden movements and their results. You yank lightly onto the cuffs and the bed frame moves, hitting the wall gently making a small noise.
Tara quickly grabs your hands and holds them still, a glare on her face as she looks down at you.
“T-tara..” you sputter out as blush once again forms across your cheeks.
“Shh,” she says leaning down, hands still on yours as her lips graze yours. “Wouldn’t want to make too much noise, now would we?” She says teasingly as a smile stretches across her face as her lust filled eyes look down into your worried ones.
“What if we get caught?” You ask, eyes locking onto the door where same could walk in any moment and catch you in such a state.
She presses her lips against yours harshly, one hand moving the your jaw as the other stays on your bound hands. Your lips move in sync as the kiss deepens further, her body pressed against yours and she slowly feels your cock harden as she does so and she can’t help but smirk lightly at how easy it was to get you going. She hadn’t even touched you and yet here you were, ready for her to start.
But there was no doubt in her mind that she was still going to touch and tease you first before starting.
The thoughts of Sam walking In immediately leave as you let out a small whine and pull against you restraints, desperate to touch the girl above you. Tara’s hand tighten on yours and her teeth nip your bottom lip. You open your mouth slightly from the sudden intrusion and she takes the opportunity to slip her tongue into your mouth.
Oh, this was going to be fun. Will it cause yet another fight between her and her sister? Yes. Does she really care at the moment? Absolutely not.
She’ll just use this as another excuse to rebel against the older Carpenter.

A girl and her crush!
Part 1
Tara x Ethan
In the quiet town of Woodsboro California, 18 year old Tara Carpenter is at home cooking a big meal after hearing that Sam, her older sibling is coming over for a visit. It’s been about 5 years since Sam left for college in Modesto. It took a while but she managed to get a bachelors degree in law firm. She now works as a lawyer and a “damn good one too” as Tara quotes it.
The little sibling herself is almost about to finish high school and her father Stu Macher couldn’t be more proud. Ah yes, ever since her mother Christina Carpenter died of cirrhosis (a result to the past drinking) Stu made it his mission to raise his only daughter and her half sibling. The word “half” shocked the young sister when Stu told her that Sam’s father is his former best friend Billy Loomis.
From the stories she heard from her dad and Sam, Billy was an awful parent. He was always high on drugs or messing around in clubs rather than help take care of his own family and when he was home, he always lashed out at Christina over small things like someone taking the last orange or something not being cleaned.
Sam was no exception and has too suffered Billy’s wrath to where Christina would use makeup to cover up Sam’s bruises. Eventually Billy left the family and never came back. Stu used to check up on them every now and then, even berated Billy for beating his own family. He once got into a deadly fight with the said friend but despite Stu being taller and more fit, Billy’s strength tripled with drugs in his system and sometimes it took even Christina’s help to stop him.
Nevertheless, Stu and Christina kept each other company. One thing led to another and eventually Tara was born.
Tara didn’t realize how much she zoned on until she heard the smoke alarm go off “Ahh! Oh no, no!” Tara quickly turned off the oven and took out the garlic bread. It was a bit overcooked and looked very crunchy.
Stu ran into the kitchen “Tara What was that? Are you overcooking the food again?” He said with a sly smile. Tara giggled, her dad has always been a goofball always up for fun and jokes. “Um the garlic bread might be a little crunchy. But at least the pasta is ok.”
Stu smiled “Look at you already cooking meals by the age of 18.” He stared off into the window “If only your mother could have seen you now.” Tara nodded. She knew Stu was still grieving along with her as well. Christina wasn’t as bad as Billy was if you take away the bottles.
‘It’s actually Billy’s fault that mom started drinking heavily, eventually leading to her death’ Tara thought.
Then the pair hear the doorbell ring. Stu picks up the spoon and seasons the pasta “There’s your sister! I’ll take it from here sweetie, why don’t you show the guests to their table?” Tara nodded “Sure thing Mr chef.” She said before heading to the front door.
Tara opens the door where she’s greeted by Sam and a tall man with a beard. “Sam!!” Tara said hugging her as Sam hugged back. “Tara!! It’s been so long.” She takes another look at Tara. “My gosh. Look how much you’ve grown.”
The bearded man speaks up “Grown as in more mature right?” Tara shot a glare at him “Ha,ha. I may be small but I can still bite if I need to.” She said making a bite gesture at him.
Sam lightly slaps his shoulder “Richie!” Then turning over to Tara “O-K before this gets awkward. Tara this is Richie, my boyfriend. Richie this is my sister, Tara”
“Pleased to meet you “little” sister.” Tara got mad again but shook his hand a little rough “If you call me little or short one more time, I’ll tear your arm off.” Richie smiled “Well we don’t want that to happen now do we?”
Tara led the couple to the table as dinner was just about ready “I’ll go get the plates, don’t get too comfortable at dinner you two.” Tara said laughing as Sam tossed a napkin ball at her.
Tara gathered the plates with the food ready to go as Stu turned off the stove. “Um dad…we kinda need one more plate.” Stu hung up his kiss the cook apron “Oh? Did Sam invite a friend over.” Tara had to stop herself from laughing “Y-yeah a friend…I guess you could say that.”
Stu was confused for a minute but took another plate out and filled it, handing the dish to Tara. The sibling brought out the plates to the couple who shared a kiss “Um. Mr bearded man, you might not want to do that while my dad is here. Richie looked a little nervous but Sam held his hand.
“It’s ok sweetie. Our dad is nice one you get to know him.”
Tara smirked “Really? Because I saw him go wide eyed when you brought up having a “boyfriend” years ago. “Tara!” She shrugged “What? It’s true…Oop here he comes.”
Tara quickly takes her seat as Stu brought out the last two plates for him and Tara. He sets them down as his eye caught a man sitting at the table next to Sam “So you must be the “friend” Tara was talking about.”
Tara covered her mouth, snickering. Sam looked down for a minute then back up to her father. “Dad this is Richie….m-my boyfriend.”
Stu almost went wide eyed but kept a calm expression as he walked up and introduced himself to Richie which he did the same “it’s a pleasure to meet you sir” he said. Tara shook her head at Richie like saying “Good luck man, your gonna need it.”
As the family eats the well made dinner Tara prepared, Stu asks everyone what their future plans are, mostly Richie. “Well sir. I do like movies and writing in my free time. Im hoping to be a movie writer one day.”
Stu nodded “I’m a movie guy myself but writing one has always been a challenge for me.”
Tara looked over at Sam and Richie “Well dad I think these two can help you with that and make your dream come true.” Sam shook her head and nudged her boyfriend “Nope that’s all him. I’m just here to make sure he doesn’t get roped into a lawsuit or save him from one.”
Stu clapped his hands as he turned over to Tara “what about you sweetie? You going to follow in your sister’s footsteps or mine?” Tara smiled “Neither. I’m going to study to be an actress. It’s always been my thing ever since I was a kid.”
“I think I remember you begging me to buy you a stage.” Stu said, laughing “You wouldn’t let up so Sam and I had to make one out of cardboard.
After that, you asked me to be the cameraman while Sam was your co-Star on stage.”
Sam grinned “I still remember that all too well.” Then the family continued to talk to one another while finishing off their food.
(Later) “Sam you can take the guest room.” Stu said as he went to wash off the dishes. Richie was about to join Sam in the room but was pulled back by Tara. “What gives?” He said. Tara raised a brow and gestured over to her father in the kitchen. “Ohhh right, right.”
Tara called from the kitchen “Dad. I think Richie wants to stay the night is that’s ok?”
“Sure. Just make sure you get a blanket and pillow for him. You know where we keep them.” While Tara went to get a blanket and pillow for Richie, Sam went to the kitchen to chat with her step dad some more.
“So you got a new boyfriend huh?” Stu said as he was putting the clean dishes on the drying rack. Sam nodded as she put the drying towel away “Yes I do but….please don’t scare him away dad.”
“I won’t pumpkin. Your an adult now free to make your own decisions. I’ll have to respect them but you know I only want what’s best for you and Tara.” He looked out the window
“God knows I wouldn’t want you girls to end up in your mothers position because of….him.”
Sam didn’t say anything except hugging Stu from behind, letting tears fall from her eyes.
Afterwards, the family turns in for the night. Richie takes the couch much to Tara’s dismay as she wanted to play video games in the living room.
(The next morning)
Tara woke up later than her family as expected but she finds the guest room and couch empty. She heads into the kitchen to find Stu cooking breakfast “Hey dad, did Sam and Richie leave?” Stu shook his head. “Oh no they are just heading out to get groceries, they’ll be back shortly.”
Tara nodded as she decided to play video games in the living room as it was the weekend yet again. She invited Mindy and Chad game to play back 4 blood with her.
They all got excited to play another round and try to get further in the game. As they started up the game, Tara got lost in her thoughts.
The last week and chapter of her school life is drawing to a close and Tara was sweating bullets. She has yet to decide on what university to go to and if she would get accepted in.
‘Stop it Tara! You’re worrying too much about the future. I mean yes my career relies on me getting into the right school and making it in the big city.
“Damit! Noo. We were so close” Mindy said. Chad then spoke up “Tara? You still there.” Which the small girl snapped out of her thoughts and answered back.
“Sorry guys. I-I just need a moment. I’ll be right back”
Tara sets her headset down and does a quick skim through the photos on her phone. She smiled by how many pictures she took when hanging out with her friends. But her heart sank when it was her and a certain bleached haired boy she knew all too well. Tara also asked herself why she still kept them.
Seeing those pictures of him on her phone caused Tara to bury her face in her hands and sob. (though the mic was still on)
She still remembers that text and the girl with him all too well.
To be continued

Hunting Ghosts
Sam Carpenter x Wick!Reader
For @tokufighter
Tumblr media
Sometimes the past comes back to haunt you when you least expect it. For you and the Carpenter sisters it was a mixed bag. On one hand, they had to deal with the serial killer known as Ghostface. For you it was the festering wounds that the Continental Hotel had brought on. You find yourself loading up on guns and any assortment of gadgets you needed to combat the dollar store slasher villain. You holster the P30L pistol and pack your grandfather’s tactical rifle into a duffle bag. The attachment that Winston mentioned was a secondary shotgun barrel retrofitted for dragon’s breath incendiary rounds.
You snuck out, having Sam and Tara in the safe confines of the Continental Hotel. You even took Sam’s cellphone that way whoever this Ghostface was, they would be hunting you and not them. You made your way down Times Square, walking around just waiting for a call from the killer. On the cue the phone rings. The caller ID reads Charon. You pick it up, “tell me the girls are safe” “Oh we’re safe.” Sam answers back. “Where are you?” “I’m ending this. Today. I won’t let you or Tara get injured again” “This one’s different. I can’t lose you too. You come back right now. You hear me?!” Sam begs you.
“I will…when Ghostface is six feet under” you hang up. Another call rings, you pick it up without even looking at the caller ID. “Sam, baby, I’m sorry I-” “Oh I’m sure you are” the slimy voice of Ghostface answers back. You stop dead in your tracks. “you look snazzy in that suit. I’m sure if you weren’t with Sam, Quinn would’ve gobbled you up in an instant.” “I might’ve let her. She was smoking hot till you gutted her like a fish” you retort, “of course Sam wouldn’t have minded sharing” “Tempting that would’ve been. Honestly that outfit is missing something…”
“Yeah what?” you say, your instincts kicking in at that moment. “It’s not stained red!” the voice shouts from behind you. You duck and weave, narrowly missing the blade of Ghostface. You counteract the next swing of the blade and stab your own blade through the assailant’s arm. A shriek that sounded feminine in form rings out from the mask. You knew who it was in the moment. “Hello Quinn” you smirk. You hear a growl under the mask. You give your assailant the finger and run off into the crowd. You can feel her give chase. Your mind runs wild - if Quinn is under the mask, who is her partner in this? There’s more than one, as always.
You run into an abandoned building, Ghostface is hot on your tail. You run up the staircase of the complex, you can practically hear the boots of the killer right behind you. You reach the top of the staircase and roll into a shooting stance. You fire off several shots which ricochet off the robes of the killer. “It’s amazing what you can buy on eBay” Quinn retorts “Someone sold out the tactical tech.“ you huff. She drives her knife towards you. Quickly rolling again, you pull out your own bowie knife and swipe at her, landing a few jabs at her left knee and elbow.
She screams before driving a knife into your right calf. You grit your teeth to muffle any scream. “Funny” she retorts, “I always was hoping you’d stab me. Over and over again” She gets real close, removing her mask. She licks your face, a sign of mockery, or maybe that was just her sex positive attitude leaking through. She slips her mask back on and readies the knife over your heart. “We’re in the endgame now” Quinn whispers, readying to run you through with the knife. “You know what I love about a franchise’s endgame?” you smirk as your hand reaches into your duffle. “What?”
“It always ends in fireworks” BLAM! You fire off the dragon’s breath attachment. Quinn’s robes catch fire and ignite. She screams, trying her best to dampen the flames. BLAM! BLAM! Two shots ring out, bouncing off her robes. The masked Quinn slams into the railing and tumbles down the staircase. And with that, she disappears. “Chasing ghosts, kid?” A gruff voice rings over you. “More like being hunted by them” you respond as a hand reaches down to help you to your feet. “Apparently one’s helping me now” You get pulled up to your feet by John Wick, who offers you a weary smile and a hug. “It’s good seeing you again” he says, rubbing your shoulders reassuringly.
“Good seeing you’re still kicking, Dad” you respond, “I thought you died in a duel in Paris with Caine” “It’s the city of love, not death” Wick responds. “let’s go” Your dad guides you out to a jet black Mustang. Sam jumps out with her own shotgun a second later. “I thought i lost you for a second” Sam runs up and hugs you. “Wicks are hard to kill” you retort. “And even easier at resurrecting” John finishes as he shakes your girlfriend’s hand. “Come on” Sam smirks “lets kill a ghost”

Killer In NYC (Tara Carpenter X Reader)
WARNING: Possible Spoilers (I haven’t seen the movie yet so this is my own interpretation based of trailers and the franchise)
Tumblr media
Part 8- Finale
3rd Person POV
"Sam?! Tara?!"
"Gale?!" The Carpenter sisters both watched in horror as another figure in a Ghostface costume appeared next to them. Both holding the girls by the back of their heads.
"Police don't move!" Detective Brooks pointed his gun as he and Gale surveyed the scene before them. He began to laugh lowering his gun. "Now why don't we play a little game girls? Let's see how long it takes the infamous Gale Weathers to die!"
A gun shot followed as the reporter fell forward blood pooling around her as Y/N began struggling to get out of her seat eyes meeting Chads as he began to do the same. Tara and Sam crouched near her body. Sam grabbing the older woman's hand in support.
Gale squeezed slightly as she looked to the two, the pain radiating through her body as the she felt the blood leaking out of her.
"Sam...." she coughed. Sam leaned closer so she wouldn't strain herself as much. "Tell Sidney I'm sorry."
Tara looked up at Detective Brooks who put a hand on the shoulder of one of the Ghostfaces.
"And I'm sorry to both of you too." The Carpenter Sisters shook their heads as she continued speaking her breathing getting heavier.
Sam cut her off.
"Stop apologizing you're going to be fine." The reporter laughed.
"Not this time sweetie." Tara swallowed the lump in her throat as Sam shook her head in denial. "It's ok Dewey's waiting from me."
She laughed in bittersweet sorrow. “A lot of our family is waiting for me.”
"How sweet..." The detective sneered before he shot her again a harsh wet sound escaping her lips as they coated themselves in blood.
"I hate sweet."
"Why are you doing this?!" The older man smiled.
"Ah ah ah we're not there yet..." he smiled slowly at the two before pointing over to the balcony. "We have plans."
They all looked over to see Chad and Y/N's chairs knocked over as David was slowly inching towards the edge of the stage. Detective Brooks rolled his eyes before shouting.
"ARE YOU ALL DONE?!" The three froze as he began to laugh. Ghostface number 1 and 2 walking towards them. They had gone to grab Chad but Y/N kicked one in the back of their knee as David's chair fell and broke. His eyes wide in realization.
They're stage props!
He went to push Ghostface off quickly breaking one of the legs of the chairs before running up the stairs towards Sam and Tara. The second Ghostface going to chase him before they heard another noise. Y/N had broken Chad's chair.
Detective Brooks quickly grabbed Tara knife tucked under her neck as he gave Sam a gun. David had run up but froze at the scene before him.
"New game Samantha shoot your boyfriend or I shoot your sister."
"Fuck you!"
"You wanna know why I'm doing this?! I want to take everything you love like you did to me!"
Sam just stared at the man.
Chad tackled Ghostface 1 as Y/N swung on Ghostface 2. The latter dropping to the ground as the barista went to help Chad. She grabbed the serial killer and threw them to the ground. They began to kick them sure that at least a few ribs were broke in the process.
"NO!" Both of their heads snapped up as they ran recognizing that scream anywhere.
"Sam..." David began before he looked at Tara. He turned back to his girlfriend nodding. "Shoot me." Sam looked at him with wide eyes.
"Are you-"
"Sam you came back for your sister. I know how much she means to you, so shoot me." The man took a deep breath. "I love you it's ok."
He stepped closer to the girl who had the gun pointed towards the ground. He pushed her arm up gun pointed at his chest. "It's ok."
Tara hit the detective with her head running forward and knocking into Sam. A single gunshot ringing through the air.
"NO!" Tara grabbed Sam as they began to run nearly crashing into Chad and Y/N.
"Where's David?" The two shook their heads as they tried to find a way out.
As they ran the boy would continue to throw objects to slow the murderer down. Ghostface 1 appeared again, Chad cocking his fist back and swinging making them fall back as they ran into what seemed to be an abandoned theater lobby. Tara kicked him before she was pulled back by Sam. Caught off guard Chad was grabbed by the second Ghostface knife driven into his right pec.
"CHAD!" You went to help when the boy shook his head blood leaving his mouth as his eyes darted to Tara.
She comes first.
"Run." He choked out.
You pushed the two girls through the lobby not looking back as Tara continued to cry. She watched as the two took turns stabbing into various parts of the boys body.
The smaller girl pushing you once you all stopped.
"Why didn't you help him?" She kept pushing you until her hands balled into fists. She stopped pushing once she felt her tears come back.
"I'm sorry Tara."
You didn't move as she cried into your shirt eyes locking with Sam's before they widened in horror. A sharp slice made to your back as you fell to your knees, a boot pushing you down and a figure stepping over you. Two more following to surround the girls.
Detective Brooks stood tall as he was flanked by the other two killers.
They removed their masks making the girls gasp. Tara broke the stunned silence first.
"Mom?!" Sam stared at the woman in contempt.
"Hello Tara, Samantha.”
Tara then began to stare into familiar blue eyes too disgusted to look at her mother.
“Why?” Sam whispered.
“Why?! You can really sit there and ask why?!” The older woman came closer to her daughter eyes slightly dazed. “YOU TOOK EVERYTHING FROM ME! YOU AND YOUR PSYCHOTIC FATHER HAVE DONE NOTHING BUT RUIN MY LIFE!”
“NO ONE MADE YOU OPEN YOUR LEGS!YOU DECIDED TO BE A SLUT ALL ON YOUR OWN!” Before she could register it a sharp ring sounded throughout Sam’s ears. Her mothers hand still raised.
“Because of you my husband left me, because of you my daughter left. My only reason for living left me for you!”
“Evan.” The boy smirked.
“You know she’s not the only person you stole family from Sam.” The older girl turned to the boy. “My brother went to Woodsboro to make a movie…except he never came back.”
“Richie.” Tara whispered under her breath.
Evan nodded as she had yet to take her eyes off him.
“When my dad suggested his plan I almost didn’t want to go through with it. But when your mom came to us and showed me you kissing Y/n in the club and finding a note about Chad in your apartment, it was an easy decision.”
Detective Brooks inched behind Sam lips slightly grazing her ear. “Do you know what it’s like to lose your first born son?”
She held back a shiver of disgust. “No and you don’t either because you son was a pussy!” He smacked the butt of his gun to the back of her head.
“My son was a man of his word and I’m here to finish what he started.”
“Your limped dick son was a baby back bitch who let his girlfriend do all the dirty work.” Detective Brooks pulled Sam back up as her mother inched forward.
“Any last words?”
“Fuck you!” She closed her eyes preparing for the worst when she heard a yell.
“EVAN!”
“Y/N!”
She opened her eyes in time to see you pushing Evan off the balcony railing using him to cushion your fall. Both of you still as they all looked on, Tara smirked.
“Guess you lost another son.” He went to hit the girl when he heard shuffling.
“I’m gonna fucking kill you you bitch!” Evan was huffing from his position trying to get back up. You stood cracking your neck as you grabbed his knife.
Detective Brooks began to aim his gun at you when Tara shoved him making the gun begin to loosen in his grip.
Sam tackling their mother as things grew more chaotic.
You stabbed Evan multiple times before you fell to your knees in exhaustion. Gun shots rang in the distance and you looked up to see Tara fighting an older man.
She was pushed over the edge making Sam push away her mother and go to help. The blood on their hands not helping. Down below you began to position yourself.
Sam cried as her grip on Tara loosened her younger sister falling only to be caught by you both of you falling to the floor.
The smaller girl looked to you bewildered as you both heard a scream. You turned to see Sam throwing her mother over the balcony as well. The only ones left were her and Detective Brooks.
“I’m going to kill you Carpenter even if it means I have to die with you.”
“I’ll tell you the same thing I told your son..” she glanced to his gun on the floor making him dive for it as she pulled out the knife she stole from mother. She surged forward stabbing him in the head as he went to shoot her, his gun clicking as he realized he was out of ammunition.
“Don’t fuck with the daughter of a serial killer.”
It was silent for a moment before Sam heard footsteps running towards her. Her shoulders sagging in relief and exhaustion as she sees her boyfriend coming to her. He pulls her into a hug. The girl crying softly into his shoulder which seems to be bleeding.
“SAM?!”
“TARA!” She looks over the balcony at her younger sister who’s sat firmly on your lap. Another scream breaks their moment as Evan runs to you both. You push Tara behind you as you get ready to face him. She slides a knife into your hand as he comes closer. It takes a few seconds but he stumbles when you plunge a knife between his eyes making sure to slit his throat after he falls. You drop the knife as he stops moving, turning back to Tara.
Sam and David coming down to you.
“Can we please get the fuck out of here?”
You chuckle lightly at the small girl nodding as the four of you leave.
.
.
.
“Can I get-“
“An iced matcha latte with oat milk and a vegan wrap?” You smiled at the smaller girl with freckles as she looks surprised to see you.
“Oh and an iced chai with oat milk.” Your eyebrows furrow as she orders your favorite.
“Who’s the chai for?” Tara smirks.
“You. You’re going on break in two minutes so you can make our order and sit with me.” You chuckle shaking your head.
“Yes ma’am and since I’m joining you, it’s on the house.” She looks at you annoyed when you shrug.
Sam and David wave at you once you notice them sitting in Tara’s usual booth. You slide in next to her placing down your order.
“Hey Y/n.” You nod politely at the two turning to Tara who’s staring at you.
“What?” Mindy scoffs as she walks up to the table.
“Can you guys just go out already and save us all the trouble?”
Everyone laughs as Tara blushes. You rub the back of your neck before turning to the smaller girl. You didn’t want to make the same mistake.
“Would you wanna go on a date with me tomorrow night?” Her nose scrunches up as she smiles at you eyes crinkling at the sides.
“I thought you’d never ask.”

the beginning | stu macher x reader
Tumblr media
summary: alternate version to the end 😉
warnings: murder, gore, knives and guns, swearing, blood, think that’s it? she/her pronouns used for reader.
he was seeing red. everything was suddenly quiet.
he pulled his knife out of chad meeks’ heart, his body dropping right next to his already dead sister. poetic.
the man turned to face his remaining three victims, but they weren’t there. he rolled his eyes to himself, knowing he’d be bleeding two of them dry in the next few minutes.
but then he heard blood curdling screams.
he ran in the direction of them, and found the most confusing scene he’d seen so far. a person dressed in the same black robe as him was standing over tara carpenter’s body, a knife in their hand. with their other hand, they were pointing a gun at samantha carpenter and sidney prescott.
so this is the mysterious ghostface that had been killing beside him. pathetic. he’d kill them too in a few minutes.
he pulled his gun out and shot the intruder in the shoulder, forcing a loud groan out of them. they looked at him with an annoyed look he couldn’t see.
“i mean really, the first thing you do after all these years is shoot me? thanks a lot, stu.”
he froze when they spoke. he knew that voice. it was the same voice that had been haunting his dreams for years. the same voice that let out cries of disappointment and terror on the unfaithful night in 1996. the same that’d scold him whenever he did something innocently stupid, and praise him because she loved him more than anything.
“what the hell..”,he trembled as he spoke. for the past 30 years, he thought she was dead. and he thought it was his fault. he never stopped blaming himself, and he always wished that she was alive.
“surprise, stu.”,her gloved hand reached up to the ghostly mask on her face, dropping it to the floor. y/n loomis’ face was revealed with a sly smile on her lips.
he was in so much shock he couldn’t speak. he just stared at her. he wanted to cry but dismissed it, not wanting to seem soft in front of her. after all, he’s not 17 years old anymore. he can’t be so sensitive.
sidney’s face twisted in puzzlement as she took in the woman in front of her. the same woman who’s name was never said during the news announcing the deaths on the night of 1996. nobody knew where she was, but they all assumed she was dead. i mean after all, her brother did injure her pretty badly. sidney had always thought that she had just bled out and died.
in reality, billy loomis never intended for his sister to die. but he couldn’t have her being the only person without any injuries. and when he stabbed her and stared into her eyes, he looked at her in a way that said you’re going to be okay.
and she was okay. physically at least.
what billy didn’t know was that his sister would go on and become exactly like him.
as soon as stu got back to reality, he ran over to y/n and clutched onto her shoulder, apologising for what he’d just done.
“how the hell are you alive…”, he whispered, holding onto her as if she would disappear if he let go. his heartbeat quickened as her face inched closer to his. she kissed him with so much desperation, he could feel how much she’d been longing to touch him again. his brows furrowed as he kissed her back. their lips moved in sync and passion, the same way they did when they were teenagers. they pulled away, uncomfortable with sam’s and sidney’s staring, and awkwardly look at the two women.
“the hell are you two looking at?!”, stu’s raspy voice spoke.
sidney quickly turned and looked to the ground, but sam kept staring.
“you just murdered my sister and you have the nerve to make out over her dead body?!”
y/n laughed silently.
“since you’re being such a brat, i guess it’s time we get this shit show over with.”, and with one quick motion she shot at sidney’s stomach, sending three bullets into her. she screamed as the pain pierced through her whole body, falling to the ground. y/n walked over to her and lowered herself so she could look into the woman’s eyes.
“after all these years, billy loomis’ sister comes back to finish what her brother started. wouldn’t that be a fun news title? oh sid, you and i and stu are gonna be everywhere.“
sidney’s eyes were teary as she spoke, “you’ll never get away with this.”
“yeah, yeah that’s what you say to everyone.”, she muttered before piercing her knife directly into sidney’s heart.
she gasped in pain and looked into y/n’s darkened eyes. she used to be such a sweet girl. her brother had ruined her.
“say hi to billy for me, yeah?”, she whispered with a smile.
“f-uck you..”
and she was gone.
it was done.
the last thing y/n and stu heard were sam’s screams and cries before stu knocked her out with his fist. i mean, they couldn’t have his daughter dying here.
they held hands as they walked towards a back door, proud of themselves for ending everything. every single person who was involved with this was dead. except sam of course.
y/n twirled her brother’s old knife between her fingers, thinking to herself. i hope you’re proud of me, billy.
7 days later
the news were still full of crime scenes and mysteries. sam had woken up in the hospital with amnesia. she couldn’t remember anything about the night. it wasn’t what stu and y/n were going for, but it was definitely convenient.
they’d never be able to catch them. they were still dead, right?
they laid together in bed in an old cabin in some unknown woods. they were close to a city. close enough to be able to buy groceries, but far enough so that nobody would bother them.
stu’s arms were wrapped around her waist, her head pressed to his chest. she listened to his heartbeat, grateful to have him in her arms again. he kissed the top of her head, brushing one of his hands through her hair.
he wondered how he managed to pull all of this off. he completed a huge murder spree, and his soulmate had returned to him. in his eyes, he was the luckiest motherfucker in the world.
and she felt fulfilled. the one person she loved the most in this world was her’s again. and she couldn’t ask for anything more than that. she would do anything for him.
they fell asleep in each other’s arms, their bodies warm against each other. their hearts were full and their minds were clear for the first time in thirty years.
this was their new beggining.
//notes//
i hope you guys like this different ending, it’s not that good but i think it’s okay 😚🪼

⚠️POTENTIAL SCREAM IV SPOILERS⚠️
my theory on THAT scene from the trailer
Tumblr media
Okay so we can clearly see that this is TARA and SAM (Tara’s hand scar on the left and the nails while Sam has black nails) I’ve seen a lot of people say the image could be flipped but if you look at the bannister at the top it’s definitely not flipped and Sam is holding Tara up.
Tumblr media
Once again we can see the banister here with ghostface holding the knife. I believe there are definitely at least 2 ghostfaces here and that this is the second ghostface taunting Sam as she tries to hold on and save her sister but knowing that ghostface is coming to kill her. I think at this point one of the ghost faces will have been revealed and this is the second one coming to finish sam and Tara off.
Tumblr media
I’ve seen to many people say that Tara is evil in this cone but I really don’t believe it. I think that Sam and Tara’s sisterhood and healing their relationship is the heart of the new movies and I don’t think they’d waste that for a big reveal. I think this smile could be Tara comforting Sam asking her to drop her so ghostface won’t win and kill Sam. If you look at Tara’s left eye (our right) you can clearly see a tear and by the way it’s fallen you can tell she is dangling. If you look at the bottom right of the screen there is a tiny bit of white, when watching the trailer you can see this white shape move a little so it’s being held in Tara’s hand. I believe this white shape to be ghostface’s mask and Tara is holding it after unmaking the killer and pushing them over the bannister but falling herself so Sam has to hold her up.
Tumblr media
Here we can see Sam falling from the same bannister where she was holding Tara up. I think she refused to let tara go and references the “I’m gonna hold your hand the whole way there” from the end of the last movie telling Tara she won’t leave her again and is willing to die with her rather than lose her . I think ghostface stabs Sam forcing Tara to fall and pushes Sam off. I think we could get a shot like the one from fear street with the two carpenter sisters reaching out to eachother unconscious (but seemingly dead) on the ground and when ghostface goes down to check they’re dead their bodies disappear and this leads to the scene with Sam smiling and holding the gun after outsmarting ghostface. Anyways this is JUST my theory and probably not true at all but I though it would be fun to share after seeing a frustrating amount of theories about Tara killing Sam.

Morphin Time: A Boom Studios Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Retrospective: Issues 0 and 1 (Patreon Review for Brotoman.exe)
Tumblr media
It's Morphin Time all you happy people! Yes folks it's time once again to launch another respective! And this time we're looking at a series i've only glanced at. Yes it's time to let the power protect us as we look at the BOOM Studios! Power Rangers Comics.
If your reading this post you probably DON'T need an introduction to the mighty morphin power rangers, but the short version for those of you who stumbled into this because you like kermit the frog, because you have good taste and deserve good things: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is the first in the long running massively popular Power Rangers Franchise, a cheesy series that followed five 90's as hell saved by the bell looking teenagers with attitude who were picked by a blue tube man and his nerdy robot son to fight the evil sorceress rita replusa, who tube man zordon had left on the moon in a dumpster which astronauts found. Our heroes would spend the days with various teen shenanigans, fight a monster, then Rita would MAKE HER MONSTER GROW, they'd get in a super fighting robot using stock footage and the day would be saved. The teens also reguarly delt with bumbling dumbasses and everyone's faviorite characters bulk and skull. Rita eventually remembered she had a shiny power coin of her own, so she turned new kid and franchise icon Tommy Oliver into her own green ranger. After a dope as hell 5 parter, the rangers defeated their new counterpart, freed him and turned him to his side. There's a bunch more including peace confrences, australian cat women, failed kamen rider spinoffs, aliens, flying cars, robot ninjas, ooze men who aren't canon sadly, skydiving that also isn't canon, marriage being the greatest evil scheme of all, baby carraiges, many a cast change, and explosions. And that's just the first series, but for today's comic we really only need to get up to when Tommy joined as that's when this story began.
The comic came about during Boom's big mid 10's liscensing boom period, with tons of licenses from Adventure Time, Regular Show and Steven Universe, to Rocko and Rugrats, to John Fucking Carpenter himself co writing a Big Trouble in Little China comic. It was really the companies golden age as big hits like Giant Days were also out and about, though the companies mildly pivoted more towards the indies these days. Not a bad move given their backlog includes Giant Days, Once and Future and Lumberjanes. The former two are some of my faviorite comics period with Giant Days possibly being my faviorite comics run period, while the latter is something I badly want adapted but keeps getting jerked around in that regard.
BOOM is kinda the middle child of the big indies. Image is the big shadow looming over all, regularly churning out era defining comics like Invincible, Radiant Black (A comic I badly want to read from the same creator as this book and it's sister book go go power rangers), Saga (Which I haven't read but have heard good things) or the Wicket + The Divine, as well as smaller stone cold classics still close to my heart like Chew and Farmhand, with it now getting into lisensed work with the Energon Universe. IDW was at least for a long time ahead lisensing wise and tends to recover quickly there and still has both Sonic, which has had an impressive and healthy run and TMNT, which ran for 150 issues and has had nearly that many alongside it in mini series, crossovers, mini series for other continuities, and one shots and is about to relaunch next month, and Dark Horse which while fumbling for a bit has steadily rebounded becoming both a lisensing juggernaught once again. In contrast boom used to lean heavily on it's lisenses while allowing it to take risks on indie titles, oftne paying off with stuff like again Giant Days.
Still Power Rangers , likely like TMNT at IDW, provides a nice stable backbone overall, with this very book having ran for 8 years ending this year, and it being clear Hasbro isn't leaving BOOM. In addition to a long as hell main book, the series has had two diffrent companion series: GoGo Power Rangers, my personal faviorite, which covers the teams adventures just after getting their powers up to right before green with evil, and Mighty Morphin, which followed a second team I can't get into much but you've probably heard about. And that's not getting into the mini series, graphic novels, and other various power rangers spinoffs, alternate universe things, etc. Boom has been good to the franchise, this franchise has been good to him and despite wondering if the end of the mighty morphin series means the end of power rangers, it's clear the company has no signs of loosing their cash cow even after Saban sold it to Hasbro.
So that brings us to this series. The Boom Continuity is a soft reboot of the Mighty Morphin era: It's now set in modern day with modern fashion and Bulk and Skull naturally running a youtube channel, more on that later, but a lot of the event sof the show still happened. No word on if they fought the rapping pumpkin still but i'm inclined to go with "Yes". So the series picks up right after green with evil but dosen't take place in the same universe as the live action shows, something they seemed to bounce back and forth about for a bit before deciding "Nah".
They also decided to start right after green with evil instead of adapt it though I expect it's part an audience thing, most people picking it up or reading this various article know the broad strokes, and part simply wanting to tell their own stories, as that's more attractive to fans than an adaptation anyways.
So our series picks up with the team having a new member and decides to play with that a bit, with our first arc having Tommy adapting to being a ranger, having a tight knit friend group, and the voice of the woman who brainwashed him in his head voicing all his insecurities. So you know, high school. It leads into a larger arc with a big beastie, world destruction and an evil tommy I haven't read, having only read this first 6 issues and thought they were fine. I later read gogo in full and read through the necessary evil era by writer Ryan Parrot, so I haven't dove into this era of rangers that deeply. But now thanks to brotoman i'm going in deep, from the start to at least the massive shattered grid crossover. Wether we go on AFTER that... is up to him, but i'm fine wither way and curious to see if this series improves a bit in my eyes on a second look. So get out your morpher, shout tyransaurus or doot on a flute, however you prefer and let's look at MMPR #0 and #1
We start at 0. This was, as far as I can tell so they could release an issue before the proper run to hype the series up at conventions and such, something I can't blame them for: Power Rangers had had a history in comics, a marvel series at their height, a few others after, and most recently before this a few graphic novels by papercutz for samurai, mega force and mighty morphin itself. Nothing bad, but not really the big nostalgic rollout other franchises had had in comics and nothing aimed at older fans of the franchise like this, so they had every reason to hype it.
Picking mighty morphin was also a good call. It's what the public knows as power rangers, it has a simple enough setup to explore with some depth while stilll getting that nostalgia pop that makes money. I do hope they move on from it as while I like MMPR, I grew up with it and all the franchise has had a MASSIVE life after it I've discovered thanks to history of power rangers. MMPR isn't bad and some projects kinda HAVE to be this: launching in it was the right call as is the upcoming brawler rita's rewind, which I intend to buy as soon as it comes out, being set there as MMPR had a smorgasbord of games in the 16 bit era, I just think expanding a bit beyond one arc covering a team made up of legacy rangers and a few graphic novels isn't a bad idea and i'm glad ranger academy exists for that. At the very least i'm mistified they've only done the dream team concept once so far.
We begin the issue with the green ranger having.. killed everyone with Rita praising him and him willing to serve and please make it stop. '
Thankfully it does as this was all just a dream by one Tommy Oliver, the ranger among rangers. Jason asks what ya dreamin about bud but can't really get through to him, with Tommy deflecting it's just nervous it's his first day. And I do like the response a lot. It's one of the better scenes in these first two issues
Tumblr media
It's simple but it really works for me and shows the sheer pressure they have. YOu may of also noticed rita. This isn't the real her but a voice in the back of tommy's head voicing all his doubts. I hear you tommy, my anxiety also resembles a witch. WOn't stop rhyming or talking about that bear and bird. It's exhausting.
I like this concept: That Tommy dosen't get over his guilt at what he did while mind controlled or his doubts easily and has trouble fitting into the gang: while Jason and Kimberly warmly welcome him, it's clear they already have a vibe going, with the gang being blindsided by a test they thought was next week. It's hard to crack in and Rita may be all of tommy's insecurities manifested as his greatest enemy.. but she has a point: do they even want him too. And as we'll find out next issue while most are open to it, one of them very much dosen't.
That said while I like this concept.. it has flaws. For one focusing so heavily on Tommy.. means the others don't really get to do much this issue, bantering a bit about Billy's push notification obession and setting up who they are for new readers, as well as hinting at Zack not liking tommy much, but otherwise it's mostly on tommy and most we get from him at least early on is he's a sad boy. I'm not saying he has no reason to be.. but it may of not been the best choice to do this story arc one. It would've been better to have some time to get to know our six, let tommy's unease and zack's tension build.. but instead at arc one tommy is at a pretty low point, and the story goes up to 10 right after this with a huge crisis. There isn't time for our characters to settle before the world gets flipped upside down.
Part of this is being spoiled by later series GoGo Power Rangers, with Ryan Parrot having a more relaxed take: There's an ongoing story to it, but it's more focused on fleshing out the five teenagers with attitude (minus Tommy as it takes place before Green with Evil). It's why his later run with necessary evil, while also starting with the rangers in a tight spot as it takes place just after the transfer of power and has team adjusting to three new recurits and tommy adjusting to leadership... flows better to me. It let the characters build so when it puts them in a tight spot, you feel more. Here it feels like Kyle Higgins has a LOT of plot he wants to get to so he lets the characters hurt a bit. We do get more character intreractoin next issue that helps a bit but i'm hoping this arc has more than I remember.
At class we get a talk about counter intellegence before i'ts morphin time: Rita has evil plans, as we see iwth a cutaway to her moon fortress which looks as cool as ever, and she sends Bullzer down.
And look I don't want to make this review "Oops all gripes".. but we have another problem right away: the monster design.
Tumblr media
As you can see... Bullzer.. is really generic and trying to be scary. And i'm not against making a monster intimidating, tha'ts fine. But it dosen't look.. power rangers. I'm not asking the artists to imitate cheap rubber or have it be a skeleton with a fancy hat. I would prefer bones but I love skellingtons. I just do. But the monsters were creative. You had guys like my guy eye guy whose just made of eyes or pudgy pig whose a pig head in a roman soldier helmet. I mean sure looking thorugh a gallery of season 1 monsters there were duds
Tumblr media
But even mr ticklesneezer, and yes that is his legal god given name, is at least creative being trini's childhood doll made into this abomination. They even had, to my shock a better looking gamera knockoff
Tumblr media
Is he a tad goofier? Yes. Does he still have dope claws and the name shell shock. Yes. Im not saying you have to be as campy.. but it's weird to have no camp when the costumes and zords aren't changed. You didn't update the zords to look more realistic, thank god, why are the monsters suddenly trying to be more down to earth? I'm not asking for rapping pumpkins or pudgy pigs or that fucking elf, please for mr ticklesneezer's sake
Tumblr media
But it put me off the book instantly that the first monster they fight and most they do , if my memory serves..a re just bland generic monsters. I like a good turtle boy, but this is just... trying too hard to be "ADULT" and "EDGIER". I"m not saying power rangers can't tackle complex topics but I am saying you can't forget that it's still power rangers
To contrast this I went to look up gogo's first monster and I do wish he was a tad campier too
Tumblr media
But while Flog here is also generic.. he at least dosen't stick out as much like a sore thumb. He's still perhaps a bit too hyper realistic for this universe, but details like the simple mildly goofy name, the earring, the bhoots.. it feels like they put a bit more effort in. I get Bullzer is just a one off.. but so was most every other power rangers monster. The people at super sentai put hard work into these things.. most of the time and the people on saban's end had to come up with new names and gimmicks. Sometimes they were horrible ideas but it feels like more effort was put in. Hopefully this gets better.
The fight itself thoguh is neat as the team has to use strategy as gamera's angsty teenage son has thick armor, while Tomm'ys ptsd anxiety ghost rita causes him to freeze up at points. he's able to beat the monster, giving it a drill that will pierce the heavens.. but freezes when trying to save a bridge. Tommy blames it on technicals and Jason.. is a bit of a dick and blames it on tommy not following orders, as he rushedin at the start of a fight. Zordon tells them both to cut that shit out: Jason needs to help loop tommy in better and Tommy needs to ask for help. And they both need to prepare: while getting Tommy back from rita was a big victory, Rita is petty.. and her revenge is coming. Rather than possess a teenager struggling with his sexualityt hough her plan is instead to have Scorpia fish a crystal out of a river. A new era begins.
We then get a backup story that was in the back of my trade so I only read it as I wrote this, but boy it is fun: The Ongoing Adventures of Bulk and Skull. Since BOOM! knew who the real heroes were, we got this backup feature with our heroes in all their glory, written by gay icon Steve Orlando. Orlando's been easily one of my favoirite comics writers, currently writing the phenominal scarlet witch ongoing at marvel and formerly having reinvented midnighter at dc before taking on the justice league with his own nicely mismatched team.
It's a short two issue gag story as Bulk and Skull deal with Principal Caplan: Caplan is an excessively minor power rangers character who as far as I can tell mainly showed up to be a foil to our faviorite goofuses. It's still a nice deep cut and I love the joke about him having taken up glassblowing for the stress, made a scream jar and somehow filled it. "Screams have no mass! Your not supposed to fill it!". They use a large deli lunch order to escape and then try to hit on some girls unsuccessfully who are more intrested in the rangers. It's there Bulk gets a terrible idea: if girls like the power rangers, then they'll BECOME power rangers. A truly perfect bulk and skull shenanigan.
There's another backup that's beautfiully drawn, but i'll mostly skip as it's just a one off fight with goldar. Not bad at all, lot of fun, but not why we're here. Granted Bulk and Skull isn't either, but it's both a dedicated backup and a nice bit of levity after all the emo.
Speaking of which our proper first issue opens with the dynamic duo giving a recap of events up to the start of this series on their youtube channel RANGER STATION. Ranger Station is a fantastic concept: our doofy heroes always had some shenanigan or hustle going and later zeroed in on finding out who the rangers were... this just combines their two schticks perfectly. I love Skull interjecting, Bulk saying every episode is someone's first and their gateway to susbscribe which is how I approach my blog so, respect, and we have Skull plugging their premium content which would be on a patreon these days, just like the early days of this blog. My patreon is still active by the way and 5 dollar contributors get a 5 dollar review a month. If they can shill for themselves so can I.
They recap the events so far: how the power rangers came about when rita did, green with evil and now the shocking development from the 0 issue: The Green Ranger has joined the team. Bulk is naturally super pumped but asks the average citzen what they think. Some think due to the bridge mishap, Tommy's still evil, the first woman theya sk has the very valid point of wanting the rangers to you know, explain why the guy who tried to kill everyone is now on their side. And given the Rangers DO have the valid explination of "the person behind the monster sbrainwashed them"... yeah probably shoudl've done a press release. And one guy thinks it's too many colors. He later died of cardiac arrest when we got up to 8 ranger teams.
Bulk and Skull end up talking to tommy, who is awkard and Kim luckily is able to ward them off. Tommy plans to get some training in after school so Kim joins him to spend time with her crush then hopefully get a coffee date. Kim has game.
Issue 1 is step up in tone. I complained a lot and likely will again about the sries sometimes bleak tone... but this issue ballances the every day stuff better with the teenagers with attitude. Since Tommy isn't seeing PTSD Rita EVERY second, we get a chance to breathe, still feel him doubting himself and wallowing in self loathing, but not be strangled by it.
We then get Jason and Zack in class where an assholish teacher wakes Zack up from his nap and puts him in detention for it. Now you might say "Jake that's not exactly a dick move, he shouldn't sleep in class" and to that I say... captain beard has no idea WHY Zack did. He could have a job, of had an emergency. All Zack says is "I didn't get enough sleep", but given how stressful teenagers lives are, there's a LOT of reasons for that beyond "Ranger Stuff". I"m not saying it's good to sleep in class but i'm saying maybe talk to your student. And when Jason tries to stand up for him... he also gets detttention.
The rangers have lunch and break down their plans; Kim's hanging with tommy, Jason and Zack are in a dettention Zack boldy assumes he could get out of.. though then again I do have this pet theory that like zack morris he can freeze time because all zacks have that power, so maybe Jason jumped in too soon. Tommy tries to join in but they all gotta go, diffrent lunch periods. We then get Bulk interviewing Jason who stands up for Tommy.. but it's clear Zack's a bit more hesitant.
Meanwhile we go to Rita's Moon Castle, where she's working on her vauge evil plan: the mystery crystal what Scorpina dredged out of the river is charged a bit thanks to the bullzer but it needs more energy... apparnetly too much green energy can be dangerous too.
In class Jason clearly knows SOMETHING'S up with Zack and why he can't sleep no good, and tells zack he's ready to listen when he's ready to tell him. IT's a nice friendship moment. After Zack asks if Jason's SURRREEE all this okay. Jason admits that Zordon adding tommy to the team without asking them sucks.. but Zordon picked them. If he has faith in tommy, they have to trust that. I do like this tension, that adding someone who just attacked them, brainwashed or not isn't easy. I also like that, as we'll get later, ther'es more to Zack's issues than just being the token douche. His backstory behind this is still a TAD douchey but it's intresting.
Tommy and Kim are up next running a training sim. Unfortunately for them... it's a kobiashi maru bitch. The survivors their leading from some putties.. get lead straight into some and if they hadn't, they would've gotten squished. Tommy.. can't accept that and Kim sadly accepts she's not getting a date... but dosen't you know.. TELL him she's upset. "Sigh" Teen Angst, I do not like reliving it.
We end the issue with Tommy mopnig at home.. only for Scorpina to hav ea knife to this throat.
TO BE CONTINUED
We continue bulk and skulls antics before we go: the two race to the scene of a battle and accidently knock out a putty thinking he's a guy asking for directions. Good stuff. Bulk decides he can use this. He'll fight the thing for a raging crowd! or something.
So that ends our first look at boom and while I had a LOT to gripe about the first issue the second.. is much better. It feels like the characters have more room to breathe and thus get fleshed out. Granted issue 0 was just supposed to be a slow start.. but given there was a backup story thrown in there to fill the issue, it would've made more sense ot just.. do a full issue teaser since issue 0 still kicks off events. Still so far the series isn't bad and might be better than I remember. Either way this is going to be a long trip and I thank you all for coming with me. May the power protect you.

The Great Hunt, Chapter 12 - Woven in the Pattern
(THIS PROJECT IS SPOILER FREE! No spoilers past the chapter you click on. Curious what I'm doing here? Read this post! For the link index and a primer on The Wheel of Time, read this one! Like what you see? Send me a Ko-Fi.)
(Flame icon) In which most of what I'd say is just in the text, there to be interpreted and remembered.
PERSPECTIVE: Egwene follows Nynaeve toward the Amyrlin in the direct aftermath of the arrow shot. She hears the Amyrlin tell Agelmar that she will leave presently, and if he finds anything about the assassin, he can notify her in Tar Valon. She turns her attention to Egwene and Nynaeve, evaluating them like the carpenter back home looked at his tools. Egwene curtsies, but Nynaeve stays standing straight. Shortly, the Amyrlin declares that they should all horse up, so they can get moving. Egwene keeps looking back, until Nynaeve reassures her that Rand is perfectly safe with Ingtar and twenty lances, and there's nothing they can do for him in any case... not yet, at least.
They camp late each night. The Aes Sedai get tents, separating by their Ajah. The warders sleep outside the tents of the women they're bonded to, so the Red tent looks lonely, and the Green tent looks festive, as the two Aes Sedai brought four Warders between them, and they stay up late chatting.
Moiraine hardly acknowledges Egg and Nyn, but other Aes Sedai come to give them lessons in the evenings. The first is Verin. She tells Egwene she's not been wrong, exactly, but she's been channelling and that in itself can be dangerous. Egwene protests that Moiraine... that is, Moiraine Sedai had been giving her lessons.
Verin held up her hands for quiet, and they fell silent. She might seem vague, but she was Aes Sedai, after all. “Child, do you think Aes Sedai immediately teach every girl who says she wants to be one of us how to channel? Well, I suppose you are not exactly every girl, but just the same. . . .” She shook her head gravely. “Then why did she?” Nynaeve demanded. There had been no lessons for her, and Egwene was still not sure if it rankled Nynaeve or not. “Because Egwene had already channeled,” Verin said patiently.(1) “So. . . . So have I.” Nynaeve did not sound happy about it. “Your circumstances are different, child. That you are still alive shows you weathered the various crises, and did it on your own. I think you know how lucky you are. Of every four women forced to do what you did, only one survives. Of course, wilders—” Verin grimaced. “Forgive me, but I am afraid that is what we in the White Tower often call women who, without any training, have managed some rough control—random, and barely enough to be called control, usually, like you, but still control of a sort. Wilders have difficulties, it is true. Almost always they have built up walls to keep themselves from knowing what it was they were doing, and those walls interfere with conscious control. The longer those walls have to build, the harder it is to tear them down, but if they can be demolished—well, some of the most adept sisters ever have been wilders.”
Egg asks what that has to do with her, and Verin says her predicament is quite the opposite: once she learned she could channel, she kept at it, never wondering if there was a bottomless pit at her next step forward. Once Egg started channelling, there was nothing for it but for Moiraine to teach her the control necessary. Did she never explain that? Well, she's never believed in telling anyone anything they didn't need to know. Egg asks if there is a pit waiting for her. Verin compares it to someone who has learned to run up hills without learning how to check if there's a cliff on the other side: you haven't found one yet, but you may well find one if you keep running, especially as strong as Egg could be one day. It’s nothing on what the men do, but accidents can still happen. As she says this, Egg notices that her gaze looks less vague, and Egg wonders if Verin knows about Rand. However, Egg discards the thought, as surely Verin’s the sort who would never let Rand go off on his own if she knew he could channel.(2)
Nynaeve tries to excuse herself, and Verin points out that she won't need much training before being raised to Accepted. Nynaeve still tries politely to leave, but Verin offers her some information. Typically, the younger the novice, the better she’s able to cope, to do as she’s told without question. Accepted must know enough to know when to question lessons and orders.(3) She asks which Nynaeve would prefer. Nynaeve grumbles a bit but sits next to Egg and says she might as well start learning.
Verin leads them through a meditation, focusing on a flower bud.(4) Egwene reaches a sliver of the Power, and reaches for more...
In an instant it was all gone, rose and light. Moiraine had also said it could not be forced. With a sigh, she opened her eyes. Nynaeve had a grim look on her face. Verin was as calm as ever. “You cannot make it happen,” the Aes Sedai was saying. “You must let it happen. You must surrender to the Power before you can control it.”(5) “This is complete foolishness,” Nynaeve muttered. “I don’t feel like a flower. If anything, I feel like a blackthorn bush. I think I will wait by the fire after all.” “As you wish,” Verin said. “Did I mention that novices do chores? They wash dishes, scrub floors, do laundry, serve at table, all sorts of things. I myself think the servants do a better job of it by far, but it is generally felt that such labor builds character. Oh, you are staying? Good. Well, child, remember that even a blackthorn bush has flowers sometimes, beautiful and white among the thorns. We will try it one at a time. Now, from the beginning, Egwene. Close your eyes.”
Verin continues this late into the night, eventually dismissing Egwene for one last try with Nynaeve.
“Feel the flow through you,” Verin was saying. Her voice did not change, but suddenly there was a gleam in her eyes. “Feel the flow. Flow of the Power. Flow like a breeze, a gentle stirring in the air.” Egwene sat up straight. This was how Verin had guided her each time she had actually had the Power flowing through her. “A soft breeze, the slightest movement of air. Soft.” Abruptly the stacked blankets burst into flame like fatwood. Nynaeve opened her eyes with a yell. Egwene was not sure if she screamed or not. All Egwene knew was that she was on her feet, trying to kick the burning blankets outside before they set the tent on fire. Before she managed a second kick, the flames vanished, leaving wispy smoke rising from a charred mass and the smell of burned wool. “Well,” Verin said. “Well. I did not expect to have to douse a fire. Don’t faint on me, child. It’s all right now. I took care of it.” “I—I was angry.” Nynaeve spoke through trembling lips in a bloodless face. “I heard you talking about a breeze, telling me what to do, and fire just popped into my head. I—I didn’t mean to burn anything. It was just a small fire, in—in my head.” She shuddered.
Verin apologizes for working them so late, but hopes that this shows them why control is so necessary. Not only could you hurt yourself, but if you draw more than you can handle at once, you can burn yourself out, destroy your connection to the Power entirely, or worse.(6) Then, as if she hasn't told them they're walking a knife's edge, she cheerfully wishes them a good night.
After that night, Verin pays them no more mind than Moiraine. Egwene thinks of how her mother had always told her that Aes Sedai are cold manipulators, merciless destroyers, the Breakers of the World. She knew now that the latter had just been male channelers, but how many Aes Sedai were like the tales, and which?
The Aes Sedai who came to the tent each night were so mixed that they did not help at all in clearing her thoughts. Alviarin was as cool and businesslike as a merchant come to buy wool and tabac, surprised that Nynaeve was part of the lesson but accepting, sharp in her criticisms but always ready to try again. Alanna Mosvani laughed and spent as much time talking about the world, and men, as she did teaching. Alanna showed too much interest in Rand and Perrin and Mat for Egwene’s comfort, though. Especially Rand. Worst of all was Liandrin, the only one who wore her shawl; the others had all packed them away before leaving Fal Dara. Liandrin sat fingering her red fringe and taught little, and reluctantly at that. She questioned Egwene and Nynaeve as if they had been accused of a crime, and her questions were all about the three boys. She kept it up until Nynaeve threw her out—Egwene was not sure why Nynaeve did so—and then she left with a warning.
They arrive at a river town, and load onto boats to take them back to Tar Valon. When Egwene asks Anaiya Sedai where Moiraine is, she's told that Moiraine left, Liandrin close on her heels, and then Verin. The Amyrlin is in quite a mood about it all. Anaiya also says she bundled Nynaeve onto a ship herself. They'll be traveling with the Amyrlin, so Egwene had better find a boat to transfer her to the River Queen, quickly.
Egwene is troubled by this and decides she has to tell someone, so she says to Anaiya that Rand is in trouble. Anaiya says boys that age are always in one trouble or another, but that's clearly not it.
Egwene thinks about the dream she had. A man with a mask over his face and fire in place of his eyes, who had seemed surprised to see her.(7) Then he vanished, and she saw Rand sleeping on the ground, wrapped only in a cloak, with a woman standing over him, her eyes shining like the moon,(8) and Egg knew she was evil somehow. Then they both flash away, and what Egg remembers most is a sense of danger behind it all, like a trap about to spring, but she knows the danger is for Rand, not herself. She says she had a dream, but doesn’t relay the details to Anaiya.
“I—I don’t think they’re in the Blight, or back in Fal Dara. I had a dream.” [...] She could not bring herself to tell Anaiya. Formally, she said, “Anaiya Sedai, I know it sounds foolish, but he is in danger. Great danger. I know it. I could feel it. I still can.” Anaiya wore a thoughtful look. “Well, now,” she said softly, “that’s a possibility I’ll wager no one has considered. You may be a Dreamer. It is a small chance, child, but. . . . We haven’t had one of those in—oh—four or five hundred years. And Dreaming is close linked to Foretelling. If you really can Dream, it may be that you can Foretell, as well. That would be a finger in the Reds’ eye. Of course, it could be just an ordinary nightmare, brought on by a late night, and cold food, and us traveling so hard since we left Fal Dara. And you missing your young man. Much more likely. Yes, yes, child, I know. You are worried about him. Did your dream indicate what kind of danger?” Egwene shook her head. “He just vanished, and I felt danger. And evil. I felt it even before he vanished.” She shivered and rubbed her hands together. “I can still feel it.”
Anaiya says they'll talk more on the River Queen, and if she is a Dreamer, then Anaiya will see to it that Egg gets the training she needs.
Egwene peered into the dark, toward the south. He was out there, somewhere. Not in Fal Dara, not in the Blight. She was sure of it. Hold on, you wool-headed idiot. If you get yourself killed before I can get you out of this, I will skin you alive. It did not occur to her to ask how she was going to get him out of anything, going to Tar Valon as she was. Snugging her cloak around her, she set out to find a boat to the River Queen.
=====
(1) Did we see Egwene channel, back in the Emond's Field sequence? Moiraine only said she could sense that Egwene was close to the first time she would channel. The phrasing was tricky, it's the end of EOTW 12 if you want to check for yourself. (2) Third! Person! Limited! Each POV is absolutely limited by the knowledge, experience, and assumptions of the character in focus. A great reminder that everyone is working on limited, faulty information in these books, and never to take any observation or assumption for granted. (3) Real healthy relationship to authority, has the White Tower. This is where we start to see the more mundane aspects of RJ's military experience: novices go through boot camp and do better if they can learn to be obedient soldiers. Though, the Aes Sedai are forbidden from making weapons of the Power against any but the Shadow, but there are all sorts of roles that make up a military force. (4) It's a good thing I don't live in this world and have to learn how to channel, 'cause neither the flame and void nor the flower bud would work for me. I seem to have total aphantasia. I say seem to because, well, when your experience is the absence of something others take for granted, it becomes REALLY difficult to judge if you're lacking that sense or if others are exaggerating. Anyway, I am not unaware of the irony that I love this series so much when so goddamn many words in it are descriptive and meaningless to my brain. But, it DOES make it faster to read when you learn to skim the descriptions and get back to the important bits. And, if I had to see, really see and feel and smell a rose bud to develop this sense of the Power, I'd be absolutely lost. (5) Yep, women must submit to the Power to be able to use and control it. RJ might have tried to make a world where original sin belonged to men, but he certainly Made Some Choices along the way. As for Nynaeve… well she's a bit of an exception, but you could say she's surrendering to her anger when it bursts out of her. Do you recall in the Ravens prologue for book 1, when the previous Wisdom undid Nynaeve's bandage and shook her head, disappointed in Nynaeve? She was testing Nynaeve's ability to Heal, because this was after she healed Egg of the breakbone fever (EOTW 21). But, Nynaeve seems to have built a wilder's block with her anger. It started when Egg was sick and Nyn felt lied to and angry she couldn't do anything more to help, and here with Verin it's clear that she couldn't do anything until she was frustrated by her inability to do anything. (6) We can guess this probably happens more often than stilling, given that novices learn the names of every woman stilled in the Tower since the Breaking, but this is news and Verin, she of the many tangents, doesn't offer numbers. (7) Huh. Could Egg have actually met The Big Guy in a dream? We know he was able to draw the lads into dreams, but she says he was genuinely surprised to see Egg in hers, and she has no other way to know what he looks like for the reader to recognize. What could that mean? Is Anaiya right, and Egg is a Dreamer, capital D and all? (8) What an oddly specific description. Eyes like the moon, huh? Egg thinks she could have been Moiraine, or Liandrin, or Alanna… but none of those feel right, either. The night and the moon are inseparably linked despite the fact the moon cycles through the day and back again the other side. Who's to say. Wasn't there someone feminine associated with the night recently? (Hint: chapter 7. Told you you'd want a bookmark.)

Hate and revenge | Ethan Landry
Tumblr media
We were walking in the direction of the subway that would take us to the cinema, but going down the stairs was impossible due to the number of people pushing us, I was behind the brunette when I saw how the doors closed leaving me together with Mindy.
I touched his shoulder but only caused a startle on his part and a simple, "Get away from me, Ghostface." As she walked away from me.
I sighed, looking away.
Until we boarded the next train separately, acting like we didn't know each other. I discreetly watched every move she made but at one point I lost sight of her and simply began to remember her.
His sweet voice.
Her beautiful bright eyes that once looked at me with love.
His soft lips, which fit perfectly with mine.
The beautiful smile with which I fell in love...
She…just her.
When we got to our stop, I looked around for her until the crowd of people left, exposing Mindy at the bottom of the subway, bleeding. I walked quickly towards her then back from her as she yelled for her help.
In the theater where I was already with the Ghostface costume on me, and a few steps from where I was I saw Chad ready to throw something at my sister's head, who was on the floor from the blow that Tara had given her. Quickly nail the knife on him and it didn't take long for the cries and screams of the younger Carpenter to be heard.
My hatred was not with him, although it would not hurt me to kill him and see Tara suffer. And that only meant more pain for Sam. While my sister kept stabbing him, I turned in their direction and in a quick movement I stabbed him in the throat, causing a huge spit of crimson blood to come out of his mouth. She fell to the floor dead, before going after the sisters we cleaned the knife at the same time to run away, she leaving the other side and I the other; leaving them cornered like simple animals.
I could finally get revenge after all the shit he did to me.
When we heard the blonde woman's shots we hid and when I least realized it she was on the floor like Chad, dead from the shots my father gave her.
I came out of my hiding place and stood next to him and on the other side was her.
"Well, you both did well" — she spoke, while the two only had looks of confusion.
"You," Tara said.
"Yes, of course it's me." He looked at her with contempt — I expected more from you after what you did to us.
"Did they?" I ask, confused.
I removed my mask with a triumphant smile, never taking my eyes off Sam.
"Mindy didn't lie, the room was easy and to get to know you it was only necessary to share it with that idiot Chad, how good it felt to stab him in the throat!" - I laughed.
I lifted the mask and looked at her.
"This was from your grandmother, Nancy Loomis. It's something that runs through your veins."
My look at her was nothing more than hate and rancor, I couldn't think of anything else but killing her.
"And speaking of family… my name is not Ethan Landry" —- I commented, looking sideways at my father with a smile. He did nothing but laugh out loud.
"So if you guys are there who is that?" He pointed in the direction of the Ghostface that still had the mask on.
He got rid of her, revealing Quinn, to which Tara and Sam looked at each other in disbelief.
"You were dead" — Tara spoke.
"No, well something like that."
They started talking between them while I just walked by staying next to a glass shelf that was covered by a white sheet.
Seeing that Sam threw off the mask roughly I cut him on the shoulder, which didn't take long for the blood to occur.
"Did you do this as a family?!" — Sam, he looked at each one desperately.
"Of course stupid" — Quinn approached her.
"You still don't understand. Come on you know exactly what happened, bitch!!
"It's not what you think — he turned to my father — "I didn't kill anyone in Woodsboro." — I explain.
"I know".
My jaw was clenched and the knife in my hand was so strong that it could even hurt me.
"You are a murderer."
"No, I'm not"
"Of course you are, you killed our brother!!"
"And it wasn't just him, Sam."
"I do not understand".
Saying nothing, I took the long, floor-length cloth revealing a cream-pink dress, with a small butterfly in the center.
"Do you recognize that dress?" —. Talk, without taking my eyes off the dress.
A silence invaded the cinema, I'm sure my breathing was the only thing that could be heard.
"They're Richie's family and Y/n."
"No." my father commented with a breathy voice, "I'm just Richie's father."
I looked at her at the same time that she looked at me, from the expression on her face she seemed even more confused, not understanding what Y/n had to do with this.
"She was my girlfriend" — I expressed hurt. — And you took it from me!!
"That?
"She was everything to me, and you killed her" — I said, pointing the knife in her direction "She had nothing to do with all this crap!!!

Note:
Hi, honestly I only came up with this when I was going to sleep and I couldn't help writing it at that moment. A sad story with a sad ending. Oh yeah... I hope you like it anyway. And maybe I'll start writing more Ghostface stories :)
Do you want part 2?

Arcturus's birth XD
December 19th, 1900
"Keep up that tapping and see what happens, boy. Married man or not, you're still my son—and not so old I won't put you over my knee."
Sirius' head shot up at the rebuke, and, his cheeks flushed red in mortification.
"Apologies, father," he said, uneasily, taking a not insignificant sip of brandy, and promptly choking on it.
"Oh my," Sirius wiped off the droplets of brandy from his sleeve, "That'll put hair on your chest, eh?”
“The way you’re drinking it, you’ll have a Persian rug on yours by the day’s end—Do you want your son’s first impression of his father to be that of a lush?”
“Father, his son won’t bloody remember any first impression,” Arcturus groused, far too impudently. His second son, still holding that grudge over his parents deigning to conceive him after his elder brother, was in something of a mood today. The brandy hadn’t helped much to curb his tongue either.
Phineas narrowed his eyes. “Speak to me that way again, boy—Go on, do it.”
Immediately looking contrite upon realizing he’d actually said that out loud, Arcturus bowed his head. “Forgive me, father—I’m afraid the brandy’s taken hold of my tongue.”
“See that it doesn’t take hold of any more of you.”
His son gave him a sharp nod, obediently putting down his glass of brandy onto the table.
Idiots.
As if on cue, the drawing room door opened to reveal Belvina, his only daughter, as well as the only one of his children he actually liked. Well, Cygnus was passingly tolerant on occasion, but other than that the boy was dimmer than a burnt out lamp.
His girl, he thought, his chest swelling with pride as she walked in—Only fourteen and she’d grown as beautiful as her mother, and just as dutiful. Ursula would’ve been proud, God rest her soul.
“Papa,” Belvina leaned down to kiss him on the cheek, then proceeded to do the same with all her brothers, though far less enthusiastically. His children got on with each other about as well as he did with the underbred professors he was forced to employ at Hogwarts.
“Bev,” He smiled up at her, indulgently. “Any news from upstairs, dearest?”
Belvina shrugged, haughtily. The girl seemed to find the mere idea of Sirius’s wife a grave offense against their family, and had remained cool and detached from any talk of the pregnancy. “As far as I know, nothing. Just more moaning and groaning from Lady Gamp.”
“Don’t call her that.”
At the retort from her eldest brother, the girl of fourteen turned her nose up in a perfect imitation of her paternal grandmother. “I’ll call her what I please, seeing as this is my house, after all. She’s only a visitor.”
Sirius sputtered, indignant. “She’s giving birth to my son!”
“I wasn’t aware that made her a resident of this house,” The girl replied, smirking in that way she knew got Sirius’s back up.
“Still, dear,” Phineas said, as if every word were being forcibly pulled from his mouth—he hated having to defend the sickly girl his son shamed them all with, but whether he liked it or not, she was the wife of the family heir. That earned her some measure of respect, however miniscule it was. “Hesper is your brother’s wife—meaning she’s part of the family.”
Belvina, embarrassed at the rare rebuke from her father, however light it might have been, pouted.
“Just go upstairs and play with Phin, Belvina,” Arcturus said, ashing his cigar. “All this smoke can’t be good for a young girl such as yourself.”
Belvina huffed, lazily twisting a black curl around her finger as she indecorously plopped down onto a wingback chair. “All he wants to do is read that muggle rubbish those mudblood friends of his gave him—and even if he didn’t, he’s eleven. Not a terribly interesting age, I’m afraid.”
Sirius rolled his eyes. “You’re fourteen.”
Phineas chuckled, warmly. “An old soul, our Bev,” He leaned in close to Arcturus, who jumped as if he’d only just remembered his father was sat next to him. “Go upstairs and tell Phineas that the next time I see him reading something, it’d better be his schoolwork. Don’t think I’ve forgotten that ‘A’ in transfiguration.”
Arcturus nodded, curtly, before shooting up from his seat and briskly making his way out of the drawing room. He’d be married soon, his second son—the marriage contract with the Yaxleys had been finalized only last week. He wasn’t overly fond of his intended, but at least he was doing what he was told. If Phineas had to deal with another scandalous marriage this lifetime, he’d wander into the forbidden forest and let whatever manner of eldritch beasts lurked in those woods put him out of his misery.
Before long, the doors of the drawing room once again opened, this time to reveal the portly healer that had been assisting with the new heir’s birth.
“Well, Mr. Black—congratulations are in order: You have a son.”
Sirius shot up from his seat on the chaise, sending his glass of brandy toppling to the floor, where it shattered into hundreds of pieces. Belvina, seeing this, rolled her eyes before brandishing her wand and muttering a quick reparo.
Sirius, too ecstatic over the birth of his son to notice either of these things, rushed to the healer’s side. “Hesper, is she—“
“The birth went swimmingly—about as well as these things go, in my line of work.” The healer smiled, kindly. “Mrs. Black is fine—tired, of course, but the process was much less difficult than we thought it would be for her. All she’ll need is a few day’s bed rest.”
Someone could’ve walked up to his son and told him he’d won all the gold in the world, and the smile on his face wouldn’t have been comparable to the one he was sporting now.
Phineas pursed his lips—At least Sirius was happy with his wife, questionable match aside. And the girl had given them an heir after only two years of marriage.
He shook his head at the abnormally softhearted thoughts—his first grandsons’ birth must have been making him especially sentimental.
“Congratulations, my boy,” Phineas graced his eldest son with a rare smile, raising his glass of brandy to him. “Now, what are you still doing in here? Go see to your son!”
His eldest didn’t need to be told twice, and he all but sprinted from the drawing room, leaving only Phineas and Belvina for a few minutes of an actually comfortable silence, until Arcturus came back with an irate Phineas in tow.
His youngest scrunched up his nose at the smell. “Do you need to smoke those every time one of us is born?”
Phineas shrugged. “It’s part of being a man, boy. It’d be prudent of you to educate yourself in that instead of whatever muggle dreck you’re engrossed in.” He smirked when he saw Belvina nod in approval at his words from her seat, sparing her younger brother a smirk of superiority.
His namesake rolled his eyes, imprudently. “It’s not dreck, father—it’s Blake.”
Phineas raised his eyebrows, surprised—the name was known to him. “Poetry? Well,” he shifted in his seat, “I suppose there are worse things. Still, you’ve no business getting wrapped up in poetry of all things when you damn well know you’ve schoolwork to do over Christmas break. I should know,” he took a sip from his glass, “I am your headmaster, after all.”
The younger Phineas snorted. “As if I could forget.”
Before he could even form a response to that supremely insolent reply, Sirius chose that moment to peek his head through the doorway, his newborn son in his arms.
“Everyone,” Sirius said, practically preening, “I should like you all to acquaint yourselves with my son: Arcturus Sirius Black.”
Arcturus—the elder now, apparently—who’d been moodily poking at the ash that had gathered with his cigar, spun around to face his elder brother, his eyes almost comically wide. “Arcturus Sirius?”
Sirius smiled at his younger brother—for all Arcturus’ resentment of his elder brother, Sirius had never minded overmuch, even sympathizing with him to a degree. “Yes, ‘Rus. I named him for you, my dearest brother.”
Arcturus, still gaping like a fish, could only open and close his mouth repeatedly. “I—You—Why,” he let out a harsh breath, then flushed scarlet to the tips of his ears, clearly beyond uncomfortable. “Thank you, Sirius. I’m...honored,” he finally said, though it sounded more a question than a statement.
Belvina, meanwhile, had taken advantage of her older brother’s stammering and gone to stand beside Sirius, evaluating the newest Black with her sharp eyes. In the light of the fire, he could see them soften slightly, and she even graced her nephew with a small smile when he let out a slight coo.
Sirius, called to attention by his son, finally took notice of his sister and started slightly.
“Merlin, Bev—announce yourself next time, why don’t you?”
Belvina shrugged, carelessly, before looking up to meet her brother’s eyes. “Well done, brother—every inch a Black, he is.”
Sirius blinked, then smiled, his face not dissimilar to a master carpenter’s when congratulated on his newest project. “Thank you, Bev. He takes after his mother more, though,” The fact seemed to please his son even more, even Belvina’s slight sneer at the mention of his wife wasn’t enough to dampen his spirits.
“Father, Phin—won’t you come meet little Archie?”
Phineas stood up from his chair, and after directing a glare at him—got his insolent namesake to do the same.
Peering down at the bundle in Sirius’s arms, Phineas smiled—a perfect Black specimen, indeed. The boy’s face was red and his features had yet to make themselves known, but the grey eyes and the thin wisps of black hair were more than enough to tell who he was. Rather strangely, the boy barely fussed—aside from the occasional coo, he didn’t look to be on the verge of tears at any moment. In fact, if Phineas didn’t know any better, he’d say the child was outright scowling.
“How odd,” Phineas Nigellus said, continuing to stare down at the strange babe.
“Is he always this quiet?” His youngest son asked, petulantly.
Sirius raised an eyebrow, dryly. “I wouldn’t know, Phin—I’ve only known him for ten minutes, after all. But he is rather quiet, isn’t he?” He turned to his father. “Would you like to hold him, father?”
Phineas Nigellus nodded, and accepted the boy into his arms, with the added benefit of his eldest having the temerity to try and instruct him on how to properly hold him.
As if he hadn’t already had five children.
“You’re an odd one, aren’t you?” Phineas Nigellus told the scowling boy, then, while he was brushing his finger alongside his cheek, the boy opened his mouth and clamped down on it—hard.
“Merlin’s beard!” Phineas Nigellus cursed, to the immense amusement of his sons if the childish snickering he heard around him was any indication. Hell, even Belvina was laughing.
Sirius, on the other hand, was mortified, and moved to take the boy from his father’s arms while the Black patriarch nursed his pride.
“The boy bit me!”
Sirius’s face was pale as a ghost. “Father—I’m so sorry, I’m sure Archie didn’t mean it. He’s only a baby after all.”
Phineas Nigellus narrowed his eyes, still smarting. “I suppose,” he spat out the words with the utmost venom, and he could swear the boy was actually glaring at him. “Be sure to teach the runt some manners—or he’ll run roughshod over you and that slip of a mother he’s got.” He glared at the baby in Sirius’s arms. “Impudent whelp.”

Michael Myers in John Carpenter’s Halloween (1978) - Part 2
I personally think that John Carpenter’s Halloween in general puts most of the later entries to the franchise to shame for one reason or another, but mostly in regards to Michael Myers as a character and the way he’s both portrayed as well as utilised throughout the movie.
(That’s not to say no other movie has done the character justice. I enjoy most of Michael’s iterations throughout the franchise, though admittedly some more as a guilty pleasure and others only to simp for rather than because they’re genuinely good portrayals.)
1. Michael’s presence throughout this movie is constant - yet we don’t actually get a good, close-up look at the mask until very late in the movie
For most of the movie we get to see Michael from one of two “perspectives”: we stalk his victims with him from behind his shoulder (I talked more about this in my post about the voyeuristic subtext of Halloween 1978) or we see him standing somewhere off in the distance. Especially the stalking scenes persist throughout almost the entire runtime of the movie, the last one occuring at around 57 minutes when he watches Linda and Bob make out on the couch.
Tumblr media
And yes, technically we can see the mask while he stalks Laurie around Haddonfield, but with the distance between him and the camera and the short length of those scenes it’s hard to really look at it, especially if you watch the movie for the first time and aren’t on, like, the 20th rewatch in the span of a month - not that I’d ever do something like that, of course...
Tumblr media
As for when we finally get to see a close-up of the mask, I guess you could argue for one of three moments: Michael killing Annie in the car, Michael about to pin Bob to the wall or Michael picking up the phone after he strangled Linda. I personally would argue for the last, as the camera hovers outside the car in the scene with Annie, our view blurred through the windshield,  and the mask is half-hidden in shadow when he kills Bob. All of these scenes happen rather late in the movie, the earliest - Michael killing Annie - more than 50 minutes into the ~1:30hr runtime.
Tumblr media
2. The movie manages to make Michael creepy without having any actual on-screen gore
It’s the suggestion that scares us, the unnerving physical vocabulary established by Nick Castle, the way he lurks in the shadows or stands outside in broad daylight, slowly closing in on his mostly unsuspecting victims.
Tumblr media
We don’t need to constantly see Michael kill to be afraid of him (or simp for him...) here, it’s the anticipation of when he’s finally going to do it, the payoff of tension when he finally does.
The kills are shot in a way that don’t need shocking gore-filled imagery to be terrifying and poignant; with Michael choking all of his victims in some way and his vocalizations throughout they have a fascinating but horrifying sexual subtext to them that many of the later sequels sadly never returned to.
3. Michael as an ambiguous character
With enough scenes to support either a connection to the supernatural or a strictly human Michael - or both - this movie leaves the interpretation of his character mostly to the viewer. We can believe Loomis’ monologues about Michael being simply evil, not at all a man - yet Michael displays many small quirks and shows behavior that directly disprove this as well.
Michael
accidentally walks into the flower pot in front of the door when he spies on an undressed Annie
tilts his head at her in the background after she gets locked into the laundry room
tilts his head after killing Bob
dresses up as a ghost
sets up the ‘haunted house’ for Laurie
... and those are just the most obvious instances of him showing behavior that doesn’t fit the description of a consciousless, purely-driven-to-kill force of evil. (I’m probably going to come back to this topic in more detail at some point.)
It’s the small things like him stopping for a second when he notices Tommy after he grabs the wrong kid that make this portrayal so fascinating to me, those clear hints that there is a (evil, psychopathic, dangerous) human being beneath that mask, despite what Loomis tells us.
Tumblr media
With ambiguity I don’t only mean the “is or isn’t he supernatural”-debate, I also mean the question behind Michael’s motives or the lack of them, what his reasons for killing are. Take for example Halloween 2: it wants you to believe that Michael hunts Laurie because she’s his sister, which is not only much less interesting but also written really badly. This is a pitfall many of the sequels fall into for me personally; I feel like trying to explain Michael just isn’t a concept you can ever get to work in a satisfying way.
4. The un-masking scene
I could probably rant for days about the last 20 minutes of the movie, but I’m gonna keep it simple here: casting Tony Moran for the unmasking scene was a stroke of genius. It plays into an aspect that I feel sets the original Michael apart from many other slashers: there’s nothing obviously wrong with him. He looks unassuming, even handsome.
Add to that the contrast between his inhuman strength and his normal physical build as well as his way of moving throughout the rest of the movie (graceful, but also unnaturally still, unnerving to look at without steering into zombie-like or otherwise inhuman territory) - all of it proves him to be human without actually humanizing him too much.
Tumblr media
It’s a shame that most of the sequels didn’t try to do anything like this again (I know the Halloween 5 unmasking scene exists but I honestly wish it didn’t, so lets not talk about that here) - I’m very happy they went back to the concept of showing Michael both with as well as without the mask in Halloween 2018.
5. And finally - the end of the movie!
This is very biased as I’m a total sucker for open-ended movies, as long as they don’t leave any critical questions unanswered. But I think this also applies at least somewhat objectively to the Halloween franchise: most of the endings that had Michael die got retconned sooner or later anyway, most of them not in a very convincing way.
The movie’s last moments with Michael breathing in the background while  we revisit the locations we saw throughout the movie hammers home the thought that he could be everywhere and that nothing can stop him, and that - to me - is a very poignant and satisfying scene to end the movie on.

Her Own Worst Enemy | Chapter 7 | A Watchful Eye (Joel Miller Fanfic)
Tumblr media
Ada had pulled on the one dress she owned, she had managed to trade some meat for it a couple weeks ago on a whim that she might attend her first dance in Jackson. It was simple but it was still flattering, thin straps leading to a cream crochet dress, she didn’t know how dressed up people got for these things but she did her best. When she arrived at the Town Hall she was still pretty early hoping to arrive before Abby. She spotted Ellie and Dina across the room, picking up a drink from the bar Ada joined them. “Glad I am not the only one who’s early” Ada smiled.
“Well Dina always likes to get here early so she can fit in as many dances as possible” Ellie teased. After some more small talk Ada tried to quiz them on Abby, what story was she going by? Where did she say she came from? But before the words could cross her lips, Ada was distracted as Joel walked in, he seemed to notice her almost immediately. Ada couldn’t help but look at her feet, he looked disappointed at her response and b lined for the bar.
“He seems to really care about you, you know? I know he can be a pain but you seem to keep him on his toes” Ellie chimed in, nudging Ada.
“I don’t think so. We can’t stand each other”
“Doesn’t look like it from where I am standing or sound like it either, he always brings you up any chance he can” Ellie laughed but then she turned serious, “He was going to apologise today. I don’t know what for, but if it was anything to do with last week you should know he wouldn’t have meant it”.
Ada looked confused, “That week is always a bad week for him, he’s gotten better with it but it still brings back memories for him, of Sarah” Ellie elaborated.
“Sarah?”
“His daughter” Ellie sighed.
Ada’s heart sank a little at the thought of Joel grieving his child, who she didn’t even know about, she looked across the room to try and spot Joel. When her eyes found him, she saw that Abby was standing talking to him. ‘It was sick’ thought Ada, like some creature hunting its prey or a cat playing with a mouse. Before she knew what she was doing her feet were carrying her across the room in their direction. Joel seemed surprised that Ada would walk right up to him, he didn’t say anything.
“Dance with me?” Ada asked putting her hand out, to keep Abby away from Joel she was going to have to get closer to him tonight. He took her hand silently and followed her into the centre of the room.
Ada felt his other hand move to the small of her back, moving closer into him she could smell his scent, a mix of the outdoors and fresh soap.
“I wanted to apologise earlier before you ran off” he whispered, his lips were so close to her ear that she could hear it so clearly.
“I know, I didn’t mean to run off”. It feel quiet again for a moment.
“That dress really is something on you” He said his thick accent standing out, Ada could feel him smirking as he said it, she couldn’t help but blush and laugh slightly at the comment.
“Yeah it’s better than the usual muddy jeans for patrol”
“Oh I don’t know, they do it for me too” Joel continued suggestively, his hand traced a line up the curve of her back. She became acutely aware of them being around people, particularly Abby who kept looking at them every so often.
“Joel-“ Ada began, Joel could sense in her tone that he might not like what she was going to say so he spoke before she could finish.
“I am sorry about the other night. I didn’t mean any of it I was drinking and -” He whispered and held onto her hand tighter as he swayed her to the music.
She interjected, “You meant some of it but you weren’t wrong I do find easier to be alone, it’s harder to let yourself care”
“I want to - care that is and I think you do too” he pulled back slightly to be able to look down at her, she smiled at him but quickly pressed her head back to his shoulder.
Ada was completely torn, she had known Abby a long time but they left her behind without a second thought and she had found the young woman incredibly difficult to see eye to eye with back in Seattle. And then there was Joel: although he had committed a terrible crime, he wasn’t a completely bad person, he just did what anyone would if it was their child who had been on that operating table, she looked across the room at Ellie, maybe he saw some of Sarah in her. He had travelled across the country with her, protected her, grown to love her like his own, ‘Alliances change’, Ada thought and nothing was black and white, morals were a grey area in this new world. She didn’t know what she would do but she knew she couldn’t let either of them die now, not if she could prevent it.
The song came to an end and felt Joel lips lightly kiss the nape of her neck, it was so gentle no one really even noticed.
“Sit and have a drink with me?” Joel asked and Ada nodded silently.
Her eyes were fixed on Abby whilst Joel went to retrieve them both a drink. Abby seemed to be trying to acclimatise into Jackson, speaking with different people throughout the night.
“Here you go” Joel chirped breaking Ada’s eyes away from Abby.
“So about last week-“ he continued but Ada stopped him.
“It’s alright Joel… Ellie explained to me, she didn’t tell me everything but I know it must have been a tough week.”
“She told you?”
“She said that you had a daughter, Sarah and that, that week brings back some hard memories. I am so sorry Joel”
He was quiet for a while, “So what do you think about the new addition to town?”
‘Changing the subject’ Ada noted mentally. She looked over at Abby, “I don’t know, what do we know about her? Can we trust her?”
That made Joel laugh, “Well Miss Ada, the same could be said about you”.
“Okay that’s fair. What do you want to know Joel Miller?”, Ada turned her chair into face him directly, he matched her movement.
“So what is Ada short for?” Asked Joel, Ada explained her full name was Adelaine Abertnathy. “That’s a bit of a tongue twister together but Adelaine, well it really suits you” he smiled warmly.
“Fair’s fair. I should get to ask you a question”
“Alright then, shoot”
She asked about what he did before the outbreak, Joel explained he was a carpenter but when he was younger wanted to be a country singer, “You sing? Now that I have to see” she made him promise to at least play the guitar for her once.
“Is this classed as a date or an interrogation?” Ada laughed.
“Which do you want it to be?” Joel smirked taking another sip of his beer.
“Don’t answer my question with a question. That makes it my turn again, how is it that you and Ellie are like family? I hear people call you her old man but you’re not her father?” Ada knew what she was asking and part of her knew the answer but she wanted to understand Joel.
“I ain’t her father but I promised someone I would look after her for a while, and well after months together, protecting each other, picking each other up when we needed it. I decided from there on I would look after her as long as needed.” and what Joel meant by that was until his last day on this earth.
Joel seemed to pause for a moment, almost as though he wasn’t sure if he should ask the next question.
“What happened to your family?” His face earnest. Ada shifted in her chair and began looking out the corner of her eye, where to start. “Well I have parents but they moved away across state. Honestly I don’t know what happened to them but my siblings. I had a younger sister and brother, my sister she got bit and shot herself so she wouldn’t have to turn and my brother well we got set upon my this bunch of vultures. Would shoot you for the shoes off you feet… they shot him two rounds of ammo and a handful of fucking tinned food” her voice broke slightly, Joel didn’t know what to say, “You are lucky to have Tommy and Ellie” she smiled at him, he smiled softly back and took her hand giving it a squeeze.
“Well I think that’s enough questions for one night, what do you say I walk you home?” Joel suggested.
“I’d like that”.
They were standing at the crossroads between Ada’s and Joel’s houses.
“Well I guess this is where we say goodnight” Ada said trying to break the awkward tension in the air. Joel hummed in agreement, before Ada thought about what she should do next her fingers hooked onto Joel’s belt loops and pulled him closer to her. They kissed and this time she made no attempt to pull away. She felt his hands grab at the fabric of her dress, gather it in his hands.
“Come home with me?” Joel asked in between kisses, Ada couldn’t stop herself long enough to say yes but nodded and followed Joel.
