I present to you this idea:

Everyone is now ready to protect this kid with their lives. The brothers, the dateables, the undateables. That’s their kid now. A kid who was formerly missing one parent now has a bunch more parents.

ok this sounds insane but in 2018 i went to a few carnivorous plant talks at the botany conference in minnesota. i got caught up in conversation with one of the guys there who was a huge nepenthes guy who told me a story about another collector in the pacific northwest who'd been buying poached plants, like a huge amount, and eventually got staked out by the fish and wildlife service and arrested and had all his plants seized and went to prison for it. idk if i ever talked about this on this blog before-- i know i liveblogged a lot from that conference but cant remember what all i posted-- but ive avoided talking about it since then because i was never able to find like, news articles or anything covering it, but behold.... we now have proof it was real, and im like 80% sure this was this guy he was talking about. the raid happened in 2016 and they'd been staking them out since 2013. he had nearly 400 plants and had been sourcing many of them from poachers in indonesia and borneo.
remember folks: poaching happens with plants too! it's a huge problem not only in carnvirous plants (nepenthes especially, which this piece is dedicated to talking about) but also in native plant populations in the US, including native carnivorous plant populations (north and south carolina's venus fly traps, california's darlingtonia, and sarracenia from the east coast), native orchids (historically one of the most poached categories), desert plants/cacti/succulents, and slow-growing woody ornamentals (cycads, for example). never buy bare-root plants off ebay or facebook! your best bet is local nurseries (which usually purchase farm-raised plants that do well in a wide range of conditions, and as a result have a healthy population in the wild) or specialty greenhouses (more expensive, but at least in the case of carnivorous plants offer young plants bred from established adult plants in-house, raised in captivity).

CAN WE TALK QI RONG?
And the fact that
Donghua team performed an OUTSTANDING JOB of a character study through animation
Like I’m watching him insult Lang QiangQui
And it suddenly hits me that I kinda understand and feel him???
Like Ke Mo
Even though he is wrong
He has a right to hate Yong An
Xie Lian has much more of it, but-
Have you ever thought that
We never get to know
How Qi Rong died?
Even though he didn’t care for XianLe, it was his only home
So when you see him talk about this-
You can see that underneath his arrogant hateful craziness
There is genuine pain
Which he HIDES BEHIND SMILES
HIS EXPRESSIONS KEEP SWITCHING
AND I APPLAUD THE DONGHUA TEAM FOR THIS DECISION
He laughs in one second
AND IN THE NEXT YOU SEE THIS
This GENUINE ANGER
and a RIGHTFULL ONE AT THAT??
No matter how deeply twisted everything about his mindset is
At its core it’s a lack of any established moral guidelines in his upbringing
And the worst coping mechanism of fighting pain, insecurities and fear of abandonment
By going batshit crazy in defense and grabbing onto everything that makes him seem “important”
Yet by doing so he succeeded in becoming so unimportant
That even his remaining family thought about him so little
That we never got an explanation of how he died
He definitely died alone
And at least for this
He has a right to feel angry
Because anger is just helpless pain

is it ok if i ask what fallahi and madani are i googled them and got results about dialects i guess they are specific communities in Palestine?
of course its ok. so yes dialects do have something to do with it but fellahi means "peasantry" and medani means "city-folk". these are i *guess* "different" communities in palestine but it has to do with the way of life of palestinians within different regions.
medani, like my dad's family, live in cities and are considered "richer" (though after the nakba this is relative to within Palestinian communities). they work in tijarah — which the english word escapes me but i think its trade — and culture. glassmaking is famous from my dad's hometown which is Al-Khalil/Hebron. medani also do a lot of textile arts (think of hirbawi which is in Al-Khalil).
now this isn't to say that fellahi aren't major contributors to culture, i'd argue that fellahi are the biggest contributors to tatreez/embroidery. but they make the most of their *income* from farming. women make *their* unique income (which was especially useful for widows) from embroidery/dressmaking, though.
there's also bedouin which are nomadic but a lot of bedouin in palestine settled in one place after the nakba. i cant say i know too much about bedouin unfortunately but if bedouin followers want to provide more input.
now regarding accents: my mom for example is fellahi and she has a different accent (she says the "k" sound as "ch" when talking to her family) and my dad has more of like.... a "standard" palestinian accent (as in something people categorize as "palestinian" when hearing it). but khalaelah (which is what we call people from alkhalil) have a unique accent that people describe as "singsongy." my cousins tease me sometimes because apparently i have a soft accent despite my dad not speaking it and my grandfather getting rid of it after a while.
but yeah this is just a quick overview of the difference between medani and fellahi.

First off everytime you draw Kyoko it gives me life. Second off the Naegiri art has me thinking if you have any thoughts on them or any particular hc you'd like to share?
kyoko is the one who actually proposes in blunt words (but they sort of co-op'd up to it)
Once they get engaged it's s quiet but fierce affair (people quietly screaming) (friends silently freaking out(
The honeymoon is just family and a few friends, nothing official or fancy, so sorry, nothing to attend.
It happens on Jabberwock and is 3 days straight party of dr1 and dr2 survivors everyone crushes it
It's not just naegiri it's their closest familyfriends and friends and secret terrorist friends none of them leave them alone this relationship is COMMUNAL

"I should've seen the signs" I feel like Stoick was basically reliving the way he lost Valka.
To him, after a lifetime of wanting nothing but to kill a dragon, Hiccup's suddenly and inexplicably changed his mind. To him, Hiccup saying he can't kill them is just like when Valka refused to and tried convincing others as well, then as a result was 'killed' by one herself.
To him, way Hiccup tossed his weapon and shield to the side then approached Hookfang while speaking about how dragons aren't what people think they are probably bares an uncomfortable resemblance to the way Valka put down her weapon and stared a dragon in the eyes and as a result was taken.
To him, attempting to do anything but preemptively defend yourself against a dragon will only end in tragedy, so he has to do anything he can to stop Hiccup before it's too late.
(And just like with Valka, he unintentionally escalated the situation by trying to protect Hiccup but only agitated the dragon, causing it to panic and react, inadvertently putting someone he loves in danger. again)
Stoick of course, wasn't acting rationally, but it makes sense when you think about how traumatizing Valka's 'death' must've been for him (and how much Hiccup reminss him of her); he watched her get taken, presumably killed, and couldn't do anything about it.

anyway re: “would Wake be a good mum?” That's not even a question, imo. She simply would NOT be a parent.
If, for some reason, lil Gideon had ended up raised by BOE, I strongly believe it wouldn't have been Wake raising her. She had a war to fight, an Emperor to kill, Lyctors to fuck and fuck over. #justWakethings

Donna KNOWS that whenever Alcina texts her “I’m on the way” she actually hasn’t left her castle yet.
Like, she’d be patiently waiting for her nieces because they’re coming over for a visit and she tries not to get too excited but it’s hard because she looks forward to this kind of thing but at the same time it’s Alcina so who knows when they will actually show up.
It’s just the text gets her feeling all excited but she remembers that it’s Alcina so she will probably be waiting for A WHILE before her favorite people arrive.

aough it always makes me feel such a way when u longtime follower folk say stuff in the tags abt watching d&s grow up in real time :')))) it's true with splat3 i think of them as a bit older and draw accordingly ofc.. but like wow they really are such special creations to me in the way i've had them so long and they have seriously grown as characters over the years alongside the games in a way i would have never foresaw back in 2015!! guess im getting nostalgic considering the sad news about the wiiu network and so splat1 shutting down next year. but they've also grown with, well, much of u guys' input, which i have much fun working off of and has always pushed me to develop them further so thank u!
anyway. i assure you despite how grown up you or even They think they are they'll always be my silly billy kiddie squiddie widdies
