Today's advice from your Goth Auntie
Take a few deep breaths, your meds, and drink some water.
Washing your face won't fix things, but it'll make you feel better.
The Distant Ominous Music is eagerly watching weather reports in hopes of thunder*.
❤️Auntie Jilli
And now I'm earwormed with "Waiting for the Sound of Thunder" by Duran Duran.

I'M WICKED, I MAKE VIDEOGAMES AND I'M NEW IN TOWN
Hi - here are the videogames I've put out so far and/or am working on.
Tumblr media
1968 (Available on itch.io) – 2020
You’re a child whose mother has locked herself in her room. Explore your house, talk to your siblings, find mom.
I made this game during the first COVID-19 lockdown, where I felt an incredible sense of loneliness. I set it against the background of the invasion of the Warsaw Pact Forces of Czechoslovakia, though it has much less to do with the invasion than I thought it would at first. In hindsight, it’s a game about family - something near and dear to me.
It's available on itch.io for 3 bucks, but if you reach out to me via DMs, I can hook you up with a code. You shouldn't spare money you don't have, please.
Tumblr media
PARASITE CYCLE (Demo available on itch.io) – TBD
When the seaside town of Ichishima becomes the target of a new PARASITE CYCLE, it is up to a schoolgirl possessed by an earworm to save the world as we know it.
The game I'm working on right now - a horror RPG-slash-visual novel-slash puzzle game. Don't know when it's gonna come out, but I think it'll be cool. Hopefully. Engage in conversation with hands, occult enthusiasts and yourself (g-guh?!) as you engage invaders from beyond.
And... that's about it! I hope you'll consider following (I guess this is how it works on the Tumblers?), I have much to share about PARASITE CYCLE and other upcoming games :)
Your friendly neighbourhood tumbler bumbler, - R.

@endreal tagged me in a fun reblog game.
Post a selfie
Tumblr media
[they/them]
am currently just getting snuggled into bed. the truculent lump i am so lovingly nuzzling is my neurotic cat, mara. i tried to get a pic of her with the sheet off, but she kept burrowing back under it. my sweet little love.
Music you're listening to and/or current earworm
currently listening to a sleep story from some podcast i just looked up on spotify. no idea yet if it'll help me sleep, but fingers crossed! current earworm is all i know by screaming trees.
Last movie/show you watched
not sure, i rarely watch anything. probably either she-ra or centaurworld with my very lovely good friend, Eden.
Current go-to ~fancy drink~
i call it "jet fuel". fill an 18oz solo cup with ice, fill half with cold brew and half with 94 proof kraken rum. top with some sweet creamer. it's tasty and refreshing like an iced coffee and gets me drunk out of my fucking gourd. PLEASE NOTE: i am 41 and have been drinking like it's my job since i was sixteen. DO NOT make one of these for yourself without STRONGLY adjusting the rum content (maybe make up the rest of the space with milk or cream?), this WILL put your ass in the hospital with alcohol poisoning if you're not a career alcoholic. also don't try it if you've got heart problems.
Fave color
shimmer, the platonic ideal of sunset.
Currently reading
nothing. i really need to get back to reading again.
What's to your left?
my big fat gently toasted marshmallow of a cat, amelia.
Anything exciting?
i was outside smoking earlier, and two juvenile raccoons kept trying to come on the porch for water and cat food but i kept calling out to them so they knew i was still there and then they would scamper off. please enjoy that mental image. 💜🩵
now i am supposed to tag people but i don't like doing that. so, if you see this and you want to do it, consider yourself tagged by me!

So at the end of every year, I always find it interesting to see how my music taste has changed throughout the year. Which is why I LOVE Spotify Wrapped day and seeing what my top 5 songs of the year were. And this year, I was actually kinda surprised.
Tumblr media
Now, it’s not wrong, I absolutely played these songs a bunch, but I wouldn’t say they were my FAVORITE songs this year. They just came out very early in the year and were able to add up plays before anything else. So that got me thinking, what were my FAVORITE songs this year? Not the ones that I played the most, but what had the most impact, whether it just be an earworm or the meaning of the song. So why not write and list them out! I like analyzing my thoughts too much.
I’ll keep my choices to just one song per artist. It'll be however many songs I wanna add. Details don’t really matter, it’s my list, I add whatever I want. Expect a VERY long posts and a lot of links to songs if you want to check them out. (DO IT. I swear I have good music taste.)
1) First off, I gotta start with DO BETTER by Ab-Soul off of his latest album HERBERT. Ab-Soul has been in my top 5 rappers probably for the past decade and my second favorite of TDE other than Kendrick. HERBERT was his most personal album to date, and nothing shows that better than DO BETTER. A lot of his album is inspired by the events that happened in his life during the pandemic including one of his best friends dying and his own failed suicide attempt and his subsequent trip to rehab. You can easily hear all the pain and survivor's guilt he has, but also the determination to turn around and come out stronger. The instrumentation is both extremely haunting and calming. I always come out of this feeling inspired to deal with my own issues. The line "I gotta do better, I gotta do better, I guided you better. There's nothing they can do that I can't do better. Better yet, there's nothing I can do that I can't do better. Yeah, I'm better," never stops giving me chills.
youtube
2) I've been slowly getting into EDM these past couple years. And one big part of my learning of the genre is Skrillex, who came back and surprise dropped TWO albums in TWO days. And both were really good albums that showed multiple different styles of EDM. Whether you prefer more dark and grungy beats like the songs in Quest For Fire, or if you rather have more bright, poppy sounds in Don't Get Too Close, there will be something for you in these two albums. The song that most stood out to me though was a good mix of the two with the opener for Quest For Fire, Leave Me Like This. The standout part of this song is the earworm of a vocal hook, which gives a wonderful strong melodic element to the song. Combined with the synths creates a strong hypnotic pre-drop section for the song. Of course the drop contains the more grungy parts of the song, especially the growly bass the introduces the drop of the song. But my favorite part of this section tis the repeated, pitched up "left, right, left" chant helps keep the rhythmic center in the song as the drums get more complex in the drop. Even if you don't enjoy EDM music, I'd listen to Skrillex's new releases because you get such a different arrangement of sounds and really see his versatility.
youtube
3) Anyone who knows me knows that I have been horribly addicted to hyperpop these past three years and it is definitely unhealthy to my ear drums. And 100 gecs has absolutely been in my top 3 hyperpop artists since they came out. So when they announced they were releasing an album this year, it was instantly one of my most anticipated albums of this year. And they absolutely delivered with 10000 Gecs. They continue to create inventive music with the same brashness, humor, and insanity that drew me to them in the first place. And I'd say this album is just slightly less abrasive to new fans than their past album. Nothing anywhere near as crazy as Money Machine, but all of the tracks contain the unique brand of energy and mix of hip-hop, rock, and pop, with and added element of ska on some songs like I Got My Tooth Removed and Frog On The Floor. But my favorite has to go to the opener of this album, Dumbest Girl Alive. Right away with the first 15 seconds, you can tell they're back on their bullshit with the opening guitar riff and gunshot impacts. And as soon as the drums come in, you get their wonderful blown out sound where I can't help but turn up my speakers to the max. But the obvious standout of this track is Laura Les's performance of this track. A super catchy melody, an earworm of a recurring phrase, "I'm the dumbest girl alive," and multiple quotable lines create a great verse. Plus the bouncy bass continuing with it creates such a wonderful short track that makes me just want to keep repeating it over and over again.
youtube
4) The more music I listen to, the more I am drawn to the weird, more eclectic styles of music. Especially with hip-hop, with so much getting made, only the really unique stuff sticks out to me now. Luckily that's the exact type of music Danny Brown and JPEGMAFIA make and together they made one of the best hip-hop albums of this year with Scaring The Hoes. And this music will, in fact, scare the hoes.
JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown are already well known in the Abstract Hip-hop genre, each being strongly characterized by their unique self-production and unique delivery respectively. Both of them have their own unique strength and coming together, they create a landscape of sounds and tracks that you will not hear on any other hip-hop album this year. As has become pretty evident, I'm a sucker for intros. And this album is no different because the intro, Lean Beef Patty, is easily my favorite from this album and was also in my top 5 songs played this year. Even though this song is just 2 minutes, it contains my favorite things about both artists. A sped up sample almost drowned out by the rest of the production, a signature of JPEGMAFIA production. Brash, bold lyrics from JPEGMAFIA such as "Fuck y'all niggas, I feel like Papa John," and "Fuck Elon Musk, eight dollars too much," which honestly just became the slogan for the year. Finally Danny Brown's energy and delivery give an exciting final verse to this song. And wonderful way to start one of the best albums of the year.
youtube
5) A group that came out of nowhere for me was grouptherapy. grouptherapy. is a music group consisting of Jadagrace, TJOnline, and SWIM. Their new album "i was mature for my age, but i was still a child" popped up randomly in my Spotify and I was surprised by the quality of there sounds, their charisma, and their chemistry. Each artist clearly has their own style that fits well with the other two and they all trade off so well in each of their tracks, which is essential to a good group dynamic.
Their new album has multiple standouts that show all of the groups' talents such as American Psycho and FUNKFEST. But my personal favorite off of this album is "club song :(" where Jadagrace takes the front stage in a mainly acoustic guitar song. Her voice is allowed to take a front seat and it creates a striking and kinda haunting melody. TJOnline joins in the latter half of the song to add some well added harmony to the song. This was the song that I kept coming back to from this project. Check this group out, cause they should have much more buzz than they have now.
youtube
6) Every once in a while, you'll be at a concert and you'll see an opening act that completely surprises you. And then afterwards, you slowly see them gaining more and more clout as they slowly grow to superstardom. That happened to me with Jordan Ward. I had the opportunity to see him perform and a JID x Smino concert as the opener and he absolutely impressed with his energy and singing.
I forgot about him until he released the deluxe version of him latest album FORWARD. I remembered his name and decided to listen finally and he has everything to be one of the next RnB stars. Since then, his album is one a bunch of top albums of the year lists and has even had a NPR tiny desk concert.
My favorite of his so far is MUSTARD. The guitar arpeggiating the chords, the slightly pitched up vocals, and live played drums on this track just work in the best way. 6lack also joins and adds a great second verse. Listen to him, he's gonna be up next soon and you'll want to see his rise.
youtube
7) Finally, there's the artist of the year for me, Underscores. I've known of them for a while, but only REALLY got into their music this year. I devoured their last two albums and have been playing them on repeat all year until she announced her new album Wallsocket. It was easily my most anticipated album this year and luckily it exceeded all expectations.
Underscores is a very hard artist to describe because she was one of the hyperpop classic artists but has evolved her sound beyond that. There is still some of that overblown hip-hop, dance pop sound around her music, but there is also more of what I'd say is folk rock in there now with this album. Either way, she still manages to produces some of the most unique soundscapes that I've heard this year.
All three of her singles that she released were in completely different areas. The rock focused "Cops and Robbers", the creepy, slow, and uncomfortable "You don't even know who I am", or the dance EDM focused "Locals (Girls like us)" had be so confused about what the sound of the album would be like. All it did was build up the hype and so I HAD to watch the livestream of the album on release day. And that is easily on of my favorite memories of the year, freaking out with the chat as we uncovered how good of an album this is.
While every song on this project is wonderful, the song the immediately attached itself to my brain was "Uncanny long arms". The song structure here is just hypnotizing to me. The quiet opening of the song going into the first chorus and the first "I can touch my toes" belt is forever into my mind. And the vocal stuttering and breakdown afterwards let me know this song was special immediately but it only gets better.
Jane Remover has a standout second verse on this song and her voice sounds angelic and just floats over the guitar. She had an amazing year in her own career and this song is a standout moment. Her turn on the chorus is even better with added instrumentation and the pure emotion you hear in her voice.
But easily the favorite part of this track to me is the outro, which to long underscores fans will be no surprise. The song being stripped down before jumping right into a bombastic, more rock version of "Kinko's field trip" brought me right back to 2021 and I damn near screamed hearing this on the live stream. Easily my favorite music moment and favorite song of this year. Listen to underscores everyone, you won't regret it.
youtube
HONORABLE MENTIONS
I don't have anywhere near as much to say about these songs, but I still want to bring them up because they're fun and were big parts of this year for me.
Stasis - leastfavorite!: Discovered her this year and she is another hyperpop artist that I think deserves more recognition. She released her first EP late last year so listen to it!
nothing2say - Jay Kim: Another artist I discovered this year but released an EP last year. Not really hyperpop, more midwest emo vibes with a little bit of brakence vibes with him. But another album that I'm excited to see grow after listening to them this year.
youtube
Damage Gets Done - Hozier: I shouldn't have to say this on this website, but Hozier is a pretty good artist. I listened to the new album he dropped this year and this duet was a standout to me and just couldn't get out of my head.
youtube
Maybe Man - AJR: As we now know, I'm a sucker for openers, and damn, is AJR good at them. They always make them fit the themes and sounds of the albums so well. "Maybe Man" is no exception. Probably would've made it onto the favorites list is it came out sooner.
youtube
Alright that's it. This post is long enough. Please listen to them! I swear they're good! And I promised not to always talk about music this long! (It's still gonna happen sometimes though. I'm sorry, I can't stop myself.) Also please share your favorite songs! I love seeing people's music tastes and what really connects with them!

Dora 2024 first(ish) listens!
Alen Đuras - "A tamburitza lullaby" I'm not sure how I feel about this. I'm always biased against songs in English, but I have to admit that it's pretty catchy - I'm also a big fan of the actual backing. It does feel a little bit more special than a pop song, so I'll give it 7/10
Baby Lasagna - "Rim tim tagi dim" I'm immediately taking back my English bias, this is SO fun. I think the staging will be really important to sell this as a winner, but I can hear the Cha Cha Cha influence so I already adore it. 9.5/10
Barbara Munjas - "Nepobjediva" Not a fan of her vocals... I assume they're a stylistic choice? The song feels like a mishmash of several genres and not in a cohesive way. I mostly zoned out of listening to it, so it's not bad background music if nothing else! 4.5/10
Boris Štok - "Can we talk" I'm not sold on this song. Sad white man singing about a break up without the Taylor Swift pizzazz I like in my breakup songs. Useful lyrics to steal for fic titles, but that's about it. 5/10
Damir Kedžo - "Voljena ženo" Song five and FINALLY some Croatian! That said, it's not my personal preferred style. It's definitely got strong vocals, and with the right staging it could do well. I'm not sure how the Dora votes are split, but if it's 50/50 Jury and Public then it'll do well with Juries! 8/10
Erna - "How do you love me" Immediately back to singing in English... I hate the breathy whisper-singing, and the song itself doesn't really have anything special about it. Sorry Erna, but this is not a song for me. 5/10
ET - "Pametnom dosta" Time for the (apparently) mandatory club song! It doesn't really build or climax the same way similar Eurovision songs have (thinking Lights Out), and it doesn't feel like there's anything particularly special about it. 6/10
Eugen - "Tišine" Not my style again, however I am reaching for my phone to turn the light on and wave my arm slowly back and forth. I think it could do well with Juries, and well with the Public too. It's got a nice build toward the end. 8.5/10
James Night - "Nebo plače" This is definitely just a pop song. The vocals don't seem as strong/polished as some of the others so far, however these are all recorded rather than live, so there's no telling how they'll sound on stage. It's not super special, but it's an earworm and I'm enjoying it. 6.5/10
Lana Mandarić - "More" This song is definitely a builder. I'm not a huge fan of the style, but I can understand the appeal behind it. Staging will really make or break this. 7.5/10
Lara Demarin - "Ne vjerujem ti" I was enjoying myself and then some guy started rapping over Lara's lovely singing. I don't feel like that added anything - more it just detracted from what was a nice song. 6.5/10
Let 3 - "Babaroga" Let 3 are already back! This song isn't anywhere near as good as Mama ŠČ!, and having heard them live the autotune stands out even more than it does just listening. They sound more like dolphins than humans. However, I love the weird shit in Eurovision, so this is right up my street. 8/10
Lu Dedić - "Plavi leptir" This is not my vibe for listening to on a regular basis, however as a standalone song for one night it really could be my winner. With the right staging, lighting, costumes, choreography I could want this to win. It gives me the same vibes as I get during the wedding in Miss Saigon (this is an AMAZING thing, it's so soft and beautiful). 9/10
Marcela - "Gasoline" I do really enjoy this song. It is in English, and it is just a pop song, but the vocals are really strong and the lyrics are very catchy. It might not do well, but it'll be going onto my playlists. 7.5/10
Mario Battifiaca feat. Robert Ferlin - "Vodu piti trizan biti" When a song on eurovisionworld has a 1.5 star rating you're either in for a treat, or you're going to listen to something truly awful. This is just boring, and slow, and the longest 3 minutes of my life. 2/10
Misha - "One day" This song isn't very special. It's a pop song, but without the really upbeat and fun nature of a pop song. It's catchy, but that's about it. 5/10
Natalie Balmix - "Dijamanti" This is a fun song! I think the current rating is maybe a little bit high, but there's a lot of potential and I think it could be a contender with the right staging. For now, 8/10
Noelle - "Baby, baby" It's just a pop song. It's nothing special, there's nothing that makes it a real Eurovision entry, but there's nothing overtly bad about it either. 6/10
Pavel - "Do mjeseca" I am SO upset at the low rating for this. Sure, the vocals aren't the best, but the song has such an ABBA vibe to it! It's so fun! This is the guilty pleasure song of the 2024 NF season, I'm calling it now. 7/10 and everyone giving it less can (affectionately and light-heartedly) go fuck themselves! (My vote on the website took the song from 1.6 stars to 1.8 stars my power omfg)
Saša Lozar - "Ne plačem zbog nje" The song isn't very memorable to me, it doesn't really stand out. The only noteworthy thing I can think of saying is that this guy looks like if Fred from KEiiNO got hit by a car. Which is maybe quite rude but oh well. 5.5/10
Stefany Žužić - "Sretnih dana dat' će Bog" Another fairly unremarkable song. A lot of the songs later in the list online seem to be rated quite lowly. Another 5.5/10
The Splitters - "Od kad te sanjam" I'm quite conflicted about how to rank this song. I feel like, even as I continue to listen to it, it's growing on me and I'm wishing I gave it a higher rating on Twitter than I did - but I've already sent the tweet and submitted my vote. The song is, objectively, not the best, but it makes me feel more than the other pop songs I've rated similarly so I feel like I should've ranked it higher? But it's not that good! Argh! I'm conflicted! 6.75/10
Vatra - "Slatke suze, gorka ljubav" This song is like exactly my taste, however I also recognise it's not objectively the best in this line up and that it's not a Eurovision song in the slightest. I'm going to enjoy it, but I'll give it a hopefully unbiased 6/10
Vinko - "Lying eyes" In the least insulting way possible, this sounds like Lin Manuel Miranda trying to cover a Coldplay song: Fix You specifically. Honestly, the guy even looks like a Coldplay/LMM lovechild. I'm not a fan. 5/10

My second round of Power Rangers Wild Force: Disc 2
-....yeah, I'm a little startled to realize Zen-Aku isn't more popular with the monster fuckers amongst us. Why settle with Merrick when you have that walking werewolf porn euphemism?
-Stop. Crying. About. The. Zords. Seriously; SHUT UP.
-Shayla taking care of EGGY. So stupid and yet, so sooooooft.
-What, no no no no no no no nooooooooo! GO BACK AND GET THE DOG!!!
-I see a future where I became very disenchanted with the sound of wind chimes because of the Shayla/Merrick soundtrack whenever they PINE for each other. It's an earworm.
-Hi, weird ode to Mufasa and continuation of Disney making nods to Lion King merchandizing potential. Could we stop, please?
-....okay, the Max/Danny is strong with the Zen-Aku introduction. Yes, do, please cuddle some more together in future episodes. Come on, it'll be our little secret.
-Toxica and Jindrax SINGING and doing a little dance and laughing about a fellow Duke Org biting the dust~ Being sassy when deciding not to help out Zen-Aku. Jindrax being the voice of reason when Toxica goads Merrick. These two continue to be the best part of watching this~

Btw I listened to the new Rancid album in full and I have to say...it slaps! Every song is catchy and the overall style reminds me of both Rancid's more rock n' roll tracks and the stuff Tim Armstrong has done with the Interrupters over the past decade. Still, it's new and fresh in places and has its own sound distinct from their other albums. Maybe I'm easy to please, but I'm a fan and I think it'll hold up well over time. The title track is still the biggest standout for me, but they're all earworms
No, you are so right! Their new album is absolute GOLD. I love it so much!!!
I think Road to Righteousness remains my favorite overall, but honestly, I don't think theres a bad track on it. They are all just so good!

Hey how do you keep the little kiddies attentions when you actively try to teach them something? I know kids love to learn so I wanna know if you've got any secrets
I'm teaching skiing to 3 and 4yr olds atm and they're awesome and I love it but it's so hard to keep them focused when we're learning something new
skiing what 🥺 i can't believe. okay im not sure the transferability to your specific material, but here's some tactics i use daily.
Big Group
changing voice inflection/facial expressions to keep things exciting. im sure you already do this because it's instinctual when working with kids this young, but specifically if they're talking over you, crouching down a little and dropping into a whisper (still making sure they can hear you tho obv.) it's weird to them and many times they'll wanna hear what you're saying so they'll pay attention lol
"okay ready? let's turn on our listening ears" *pantomiming twisting a knob by each ear* / "lemme see your eyeballs" *pantomiming binoculars in front of your eyes* <- the wording of this one is weird but my kids know im weird and respond to it lmao. not sure if they're returning for are multiple classes or just one, but when they hear these phrases recurring, they recognize it's time to listen to something extra important.
lots of verbal repetition. especially if it's a specific word they need to remember. after repeating it a bunch, using it in a open ended sentence that they all answer. (ex. "and then we use our sticks, which are called ouuuuur ___?" *they answer* "nice! yes.")
One on One
obviously differs with each kid's learning style, but again lots of repetition. i assume theres a lot of physical movement going on with you, so not only repeating the motion, but using the same voice inflection with the motion each time. (ex. "we snap our boots onto the ski - snap! snap! - and we STAAAAAND UP)(<-everyone catching me in 4k for not knowing how to ski.) if it's the same noises/inflection and they're repeating it with you when they do it, you'll find it's easier for them to compartmentalize the motion. it'll also earworm back into their brain as reference when they're doing it on their own. it's kinda like a lil mantra they can follow.
a touch of what i like to call The Dumbass Method. personal favorite. it's not used a lot, but every once in a while, you pretend to forget what the next step is. if they know it and offer it freely, hit em with a "OH yeah - you're right thank you for reminding me." they'll feel awesome and powerful and their confidence will be boosted.
"it's okay to mess up!" obviously your material has more dire consequences to them messing up, so you'd have to narrow that down to whatever you think applies. but like.....just letting them fuck up. ya know? letting them fuck up and then reassuring them that it's okay and then helping them correct it with a smile. if they know it's okay to fuck up then they're usually more willing to try/do great shit!
through the course of writing this i have become absolutely obsessed with the concept of teaching 3s/4s how to ski, so if you ever have stories PLEASE i beg you share them lol. hope some of this is helpful

1998 Birmingham - Number 12 - B.I.G. - "Ingen annan väg"
youtube
What do you get if you cross the anthemic Beatles worship of Oasis with something far more clean-cut and Melfest friendly? Why B.I.G. of course! It doesn't get b.i.g.ger that B.I.G. They are a band formed in 1996 from the ashes of several previous bands. Led by Peo Thyrén (previously of Noice) they entered Melodifestivalen 1997 and came fifth, but still had a hit single with that song.
They're back in 1999 with Ingen annan väg (No Other Way). It is a simple singalong pop-rock song, here orchestrated with rich strings. The lyrics suggest a vague but uplifting number, celebrating the delights of knuckling down and getting on with it. There's a guiding star, a single path to walk down, a destination in the distance. It'll all be worth it in the end. What's that? You're telling me this is religious?!
Yes. B.I.G. or Brothers in God to give them their full name have harnessed stadium pleasing pop-rock to push generalised uplifting messages to their large audience and promote religion. It doesn't sound nearly so churchy as some other less religious songs in Eurovision, but there we are. It's all highly inoffensive. In fact it's kind of hummable. Look, you caught me humming it.
This was hummable enough to finish second in Melodifestivalen. It wasn't particularly close to winning, but it was well clear of third. Sweden liked it and they liked B.I.G. enough for them to release another four albums and several singles over the next four years or so. Ultimately they split up. Peo went back to Noice to play bass and everything went back to how it was before. All that remained were the earworms.

m @yesiamanerd tagged me in ten songs on shuffle !! I did all my downloaded songs on shuffle and it turned out an interesting spread
1) my backwards walk/manchester orchestra. well this was a lot to get hit with at 10am! this is one of my favorite songs by frightened rabbit, covered by another band I love. I've loved this song a long time. this cover is very special to me. rest in peace scott hutchinson your memory lives on 🖤
2) opening from company. such a fantastic setup for Bobby's character. raul esparza sexy voice. and who doesn't love a nice harmony
3) superpower by beyoncé ft. frank ocean. godddd still one of my favorite beyoncé tracks ever. sooo sexy and romantic and the lyrics are so delicately wrought.
4) 10,000 year earworm to discourage settlement near nuclear waste repositories by emperor x. extremely cool song that does exactly what it says on the tin. very very catchy + appeals to my interest in future proof signs.
5) Eleanor Rigby by the Beatles. a classic! I used to act out a music video to this with my Barbies it was very tragic and strange
6) empty spaces by pink floyd. one of those tracks off the wall that I don't really think about too much bc it's more of a transition. but it's got great atmosphere.
7) black velvet band by the dropkick murphys. I love to listen to dm and connect with my Irish roots my culture 🫶 and yell and scream in the car. great for that. favorite version of this is still definitely grace from peaky blinders but this one is good too. it'll break your heart. already broken!
8) shining (thank you) by beyoncé. this is the last official track off homecoming where she's thanking the dancers and musicians. it's unremarkable by itself but I just want to say. I love the homecoming album so fucking much. it is so good. I listen to it all the time. especially the first half is like. nonstop shake your ass music. love u queen
9) hypertension by nicolas britell. if Beale street could talk soundtrack my beloved... if I'm remembering correctly this plays during the confrontation with the white guy ? it's a distortion of the main theme. I don't feel strongly about this track but that main theme. oh it kills.
10) crushcrushcrush by paramore. a classic and a banger. big dancing in the kitchen song.
I tag @obeetlebeetle @sophelstien @phosphorusandpetra @olreid !!

director's cut? any and all insights into 'move it to the exits' and 'living in a rhythm where the minute's working overtime', please!
There are brilliant people who exist who have well thought out plots and intricate outlines laid out before they actually start writing. I am not one of those people. (David Fincher, I am not!) I tried outlining a very convoluted fic once with three different concurrent timelines, color-coordinated the thing, wrote 20k, and then gave it up. My process - if one can even call it that - is that usually I will get one line of dialogue or narration stuck in my mind like an incessant earworm until I have no choice but to do something with it. So a lot of times, the scene is built around that one line or the entire story is in the service of getting to that one particular moment. It'll be like 20k of words just because I couldn't get the image of someone leaning out of my head. There's an entire graveyard of unfinished google docs that occasionally get cannibalized into parts of other things that started off with one stupid thought incepting my brain.
living in a rhythm where the minute’s working overtime (The Batman; Bruce/Selina): I was back on my Bruce/Selina bullshit after The Batman. (To be fair, when am I ever NOT about them? I love them in almost all iterations! And having Bruce Wayne be a sad weirdo who smears on grease paint while overidentifying with Kurt Cobain? While Selina Kyle is objectively rad and played by Zoe Kravitz who can actually pull off calling a dude wearing bat ears "baby" every other line? Excellent choices!) It got me to write fic again after a billion years! The line that started this one off was "Think of how guilty you'll feel if I die without knowing you are," but I think originally I had pictured it as happening on a rooftop in the context of Selina having already figured out Batman's secret identity (I was - maybe still am - obsessed with that scene where she asks if he's hideously scarred under the mask) and trying to get him to admit it, but then it morphed into her milking a fairly benign injury to score a trip to the batcave instead and the rest is history. I think this one had room to be a longer thing, but I wrote it on the heels of having already written a 16k and 14k fic about these two idiots already (when historically I rarely used to cross 10k) and needed a break. move it to the exits (Roswell New Mexico; Kyle/Isobel): I really loved the idea of a drunk Kyle wrapping Isobel in his herringbone coat as the snow started to gently fall around them. In the back of my mind, that imagery was part of a very long-form story with them secretly dating but Isobel trying to hide it from her well-meaning mother because she doesn't want Ann Evans to get invested in case it didn't work out. In true Isobel fashion, she makes sure Kyle is on call when Ann comes to visit that weekend. In true Michael fashion, he accidentally lets it slip to Kyle that his girlfriend's mother is in town and it would be a great idea to surprise them at dinner. The dinner, already stressful because Ann is meeting Liz for the first time, is of course a disaster that starts with Isobel introducing Kyle as Liz's ex-boyfriend (which he thinks is kind of weird) and only gets worse from there. Ann Evans keeps trying to get Kyle to arrange a meet-cute between Isobel and a hot doctor in his hospital (which he thinks is really weird). And Max keeps choking on his wine because he's laughing so hard. And then Ann Evans finally asks Kyle why someone who is such a catch doesn't have a girlfriend and he finally gets that Isobel has been lying to her mother for six months when he convinced his own mother to invite her over for dinner even though she kept referring to Isobel "Max's sister with the sex toys" when he first told her they were dating. Naturally, Kyle's anger manifests as him punching Jordan Bernhardt in the parking lot of The Crashdown after he fakes a stat page from the hospital to get out of the dinner from hell, which leads to where this starts off.

For the handwritten ask: 🧁 favorite memory with a specific song/album?
How uspet would you be if I typed it, instead of writing it? (because yes, I've long reached the point where typing is faster than writing...) I do have a fun story (it's fun for me at least!) but it's a bit long.
So, depending how old you are, you may or may not remember the rise of peer-to-peer downloading. It was an amazing thing, suddenly putting all the content of the world a couple of clicks away! So we'd just very randomly search for anything that'd cross our minds. BUT we had sllllooooow internet connections and desktop computers with a full hard drive of 2GB. Still, the excitement of P2P, typing in a movie title, an actor's name, see what was available, pick one, prefencially short audio files if you didn't want to wait 2 days. Pray it wasn't porn-in-disguise... Anywho, I don't exactly remember (that was 20 years ago) but I guess somewhere between the Zorro movies, Shrek 2 and watching old Almodovar movies in Spanish class, I had a bit of a crush on Antonio Banderas (who didn't, then?). So, I suppose I typed in "antonio banderas" somewhere and here was a file of a reasonable size labeled "antoniobanderas.wav" which was, indeed, a song sang by Antonio Banderas. Cute song, sounded very Spanish to me. From what I could understand, it was a sweet love song. Morena de me corazon. Something about playing the guitar, the moon, love... I assumed he may have released an album or something (though I never found such thing back then). Happy with my discovery, I put it in my "music" folder, and it's been transfered from desktop to laptop to mp3 to iPod over the years. It was just to me "that old Banderas song" that would pop on my playlist every once in a while.
Cue, over 20 years later (a few months ago). France.tv (free TV and streaming service) informs me that they have Desperado available. Sometimes my heart is weak. I'm not a Rodriguez fan, but I was longing for my old Spanish amigo, so I'm like "well, it's Sunday, the movie is free, it'll make a good background thing while I spend too much time on Tumblr."
10 seconds. It took about 10 seconds and 3 guitar stroke for all the bells in my brain to ring. I know that song. That's THE SONG!! My god that song is from Desperado?! Desperado?! That innocent love song?
So, there. A 20 years-old mystery solved. Totally by chance.
And 2 weeks ago, during a trip to Spain, I was telling this story to my friend and because that was the only Spanish song I had on my phone and it's a bit of an earworm, it became the hymn for our trip and we've been singing in all week. And suddenly, a group starts playing and singing it in the streets of Granada, and here I am, singing along, very proud of knowing la Canción Del Mariachi!

I'm *going* to post a proper write-up for TBC Remix, probably, at some point, but I'm still working on my personal notes for it and it'll take much longer to write and polish something public.
But here are a few of my top highlights:
- Coming out into Mycenae, the first major change being the phone call to Agamemnon: the Nokia ringtone.
- Watching everyone else hear the reset music - not recognising it myself, but knowing deep down what it was, from their reactions
- Closer (I Wanna Fuck You Like an Animal) in Peep. Mallory to Ali.
- (only intending to pop into Peep for a moment, but hearing that and then deciding to spend the better part of the loop there)
- Moana DDR
- Polyxena hanging to Heart of Glass
- Luke Murphy's Neopt breakdown in the klub, knowing it's probably the last time I'll ever see it, and it's to Blinding Lights by the Weeknd.
- w i t c h. r a v e.
- The party 💖 Running around in Troy! Photoshoots on the DDR! A wild band of roaming Orpheuses! My perpetual earworm for the next 365 days, "Working as a Waitress in a Cocktail Bar". All the love in that building, all the costumes and the camaraderie and the joy.

how would you describe your taste in music?
Hm, this is a tough one!
I guess I would describe it as eclectic but shallow.
That is to say, I don't limit myself to specific genres, languages, or even "taste levels" (like I'll straight up thrive during someone's sell out era making generic earworms) but I will admit I do tend to go for "easily digestible"/more mainstream music.
So like... I'll listen supposedly niche music but listen to the most accessible/popular groups. Not intentionally, it's just a trend.
Like, sure, I listen to industrial music but it's like... NIN and Rammstein, not exactly a deep cut. And even then, I'm likely just listening to their most popular songs. Like, yeah, I love Engel and Ich Will or whatever... if you asked me to name many more Rammstein songs, I would struggle lmao.
My playlists are a mess of genres but it'll go from like Rammstein to Carly Rae Jepsen to Tinashe to King Gnu. I tend to like the most pop-adjacent version of whatever genre I'm into because I tend to enjoy energetic yet not hostile music (like if I'm listening to screamo, I prefer for it to also have a melodic voice to balance it out). Even the classical music I listen to... I tend to go for like remixes with electronic elements (like Vanessa Mae) or something a bit more upbeat/uptempo (is that the right word).
So, I'm a fake fan... for many genres. I tend to just listen to singles and rarely investigate full discogs or even full albums. If an artist sets out bait for general audiecnes with a catchy but ultimately misleading single, I WILL be biting but then will not give chase to the rest.
I suppose my phone is full of bands and artists most people have never heard of but probably could get into, at least on the level I am (ie a handful of songs)
I suppose a lot of people have a similar approach to music. Being eclectic isn't exactly a rare trait, so I've wasted a lot of words saying "Probably just like you and everyone else, besides the few that have one singular niche they refuse to leave."

Just dropping in to say hello, I hope your week was good and you’re doing well! Also curious what the group chat thinks of Fake As Hell! lol
Hey! This is so sweet, thank you. I had a pretty good week. Work was crazy for most of my colleagues, for some reason, but not me lmao. When the weather changes, the students go nuts. The slightest breeze and all hell breaks loose. I'm at teacher training all day and I have had a very strange atl connection here (which I'll tell y'all about later when I can talk to that person more lmao). And tomorrow, I'm going to record a podcast for a friend of a friend's series on stories from Arkansas. Which is kind of fun and interesting, but also incredibly nerve-wracking.
The group chat consensus for Fake as Hell is that it's kinda boring and we don't really get why it was released now, but the chorus slaps and it's an earworm. Also, we're all fairly confident that it'll grow on us. Except for Torri, who has not listened yet lmao. Bless her.
