this may be a bit of a cop out, but i think i'm just gonna quote the staff directly on this:

“Instead of simply surviving in a desperate situation, we offered the player choices through with they could interact with others, overcome various experiences, and decide for themselves what they should do about their situation. The keyword behind the main concept of ‘Devil Survivor’ is ‘Choices’. Personally, if I was put into that situation, I’d probably head to the nearest emergency shelter and try not to move. Despite having choices, my reality would be nothing like the game. [laughs]” - Shinjiro Takada

#answered #devil survivor #desu #desu rambles #it's been a hot minute since i wrote anything desu related i felt kinda dejected bc [redacted]#and i'm trying to hype myself up to write something again :s #getting a desu ask is definitely the best way to kickstart those gears again thank you aahh #and i love getting any asks about desu dfajklds;#anyway these themes really resonated with me a lot #bc the first time i played the game was when i was in the hospital for stage 3 cancer #i was so bored since i was just laying around all day doing chemo so i picked up the game on a whim bc i thought it looked interesting #and not to pull an otacon and be like 'wow just like my japanese games!!' but like. playing as characters who were on death's door?#and still managed to pull through as exhausting and difficult as it was and just survive?#it definitely helped a lot.
