without getting into it too deeply, since the cog liker/toon hater discourse keeps springing up with no end can we at least make an effort to not automatically assume that people who do focus on or prefer cog characters are illiterate and need to be lectured to about the harmful effects of capitalism? it's deeply condescending and pretentious. i'm not saying there aren't people with uninformed or even regressive views that seep into how they analyze their favourite medias, but go to any other fandom and you will find this. there will always be outliers with opinions on the extreme ends of any given topic. seeing those select examples and then deciding that everyone must think this way except you, then putting out a bunch of PSAs abt how every cog fan needs to check themselves, really doesn't do anyone any good.
#toontown corporate clash#ttcc#sorry if this sounds harsh. i can't deny i'm a bit annoyed by this point#the commentary tt reflects is important and relevant yeah#but part of media literacy is analyzing the fictional world as it presents itself#it's own rules and parameters#tt is a game where the bad guys take away your toys and send you to your room when you lose a battle and you fight said battle with pies#and water balloons#i think maybe just maybe it might be okay if people want to draw the cogs having a tea party or something

“Show, Don’t Tell”…But This Time Someone Explains It

If you’ve ever been on the hunt for writing advice, you've definitely seen the phrase “Show, Don’t Tell.”
Writeblr coughs up these three words on the daily; it’s often considered the “Golden Rule” of writing. However, many posts don't provide an in-depth explanation about what this "Golden Rule" means (This is most likely to save time, and under the assumption that viewers are already informed).
More dangerously, some posts fail to explain that “Show, Don’t Tell” occasionally doesn’t apply in certain contexts, toeing a dangerous line by issuing a blanket statement to every writing situation.
The thing to take away from this is: “Show, Don’t Tell” is an essential tool for more immersive writing, but don't feel like a bad writer if you can’t make it work in every scenario (or if you can’t get the hang of it!)
1. What Does "Show, Don't Tell" Even Mean?
“Show, Don’t Tell” is a writing technique in which the narrative or a character’s feelings are related through sensory details rather than exposition. Instead of telling the reader what is happening, the reader infers what is happening due to the clues they’ve been shown.
EXAMPLE 1:
Telling: The room was very cold. Showing: She shivered as she stepped into the room, her breath steaming in the air.
EXAMPLE 2:
Telling: He was furious. Showing: He grabbed the nearest book and hurled it against the wall, his teeth bared and his eyes blazing.
EXAMPLE 3 ("SHOW, DON'T TELL" DOESN'T HAVE TO MEAN "WRITE A LOT MORE")
Telling: The room hadn't been lived in for a very long time. Showing: She shoved the door open with a spray of dust.
Although the “showing” sentences don’t explicitly state how the characters felt, you as the reader use context clues to form an interpretation; it provides information in an indirect way, rather than a direct one.
Because of this, “Show, Don’t Tell” is an incredibly immersive way to write; readers formulate conclusions alongside the characters, as if they were experiencing the story for themselves instead of spectating.
As you have probably guessed, “showing” can require a lot more words (as well as patience and effort). It’s a skill that has to be practiced and improved, so don’t feel discouraged if you have trouble getting it on the first try!
2. How Do I Use “Show, Don’t Tell” ?

There are no foolproof parameters about where you “show” and not “tell" or vice versa; it’s more of a writing habit that you develop rather than something that you selectively decide to employ.
In actuality, most stories are a blend of both showing and telling, and more experienced writers instinctively switch between one and another to cater to their narrative needs. You need to find a good balance of both in order to create a narrative that is both immersive and engaging.
i. Help When Your Writing Feels Bare-Bones/Soulless/Boring
Your writing is just not what you’ve pictured in your head, no matter how much you do it over. Conversations are stilted. The characters are flat. The sentences don’t flow as well as they do in the books you've read. What’s missing?
It’s possibly because you’ve been “telling” your audience everything and not “showing”! If a reader's mind is not exercised (i.e. they're being "spoon-fed" all of the details), your writing may feel boring or uninspired!
Instead of saying that a room was old and dingy, maybe describe the peeling wallpaper. The cobwebs in the corners. The smell of dust and old mothballs. Write down what you see in your mind's eye, and allow your audience to formulate their own interpretations from that. (Scroll for a more in-depth explanation on HOW to develop this skill!)
ii. Add More Depth and Emotion to Your Scenes
Because "Show, Don't Tell" is a more immersive way of writing, a reader is going to feel the narrative beats of your story a lot more deeply when this rule is utilized.
Describing how a character has fallen to their knees sobbing and tearing our their hair is going to strike a reader's heart more than saying: "They were devastated."
Describing blood trickling through a character's fingers and staining their clothes will seem more dire than saying: "They were gravely wounded."
iii. Understand that Sometimes Telling Can Fit Your Story Better
Telling can be a great way to show your characters' personalities, especially when it comes to first-person or narrator-driven stories. Below, I've listed a few examples; however, this list isn't exclusive or comprehensive!
Initial Impressions and Character Opinions
If a character describes someone's outfit as "gaudy" or a room as "absolutely disgusting," it can pack more of a punch about their initial impression, rather than describing the way that they react (and can save you some words!). In addition, it can provide some interesting juxtaposition (i.e. when a character describes a dog as "hideous" despite telling their friend it looks cute).
2. Tone and Reader Opinions
Piggybacking off of the first point, you can "tell, not show" when you want to be certain about how a reader is supposed to feel about something. "Showing" revolves around readers drawing their own conclusions, so if you want to make sure that every reader draws the same conclusion, "telling" can be more useful! For example, if you describe a character's outfit as being a turquoise jacket with zebra-patterned pants, some readers may be like "Ok yeah a 2010 Justice-core girlie is slaying!" But if you want the outfit to come across as badly arranged, using a "telling" word like "ridiculous" or "gaudy" can help set the stage.
3. Pacing
"Show, don't tell" can often take more words; after all, describing a character's reaction is more complicated than stating how they're feeling. If your story calls for readers to be focused more on the action than the details, such as a fight or chase scene, sometimes "telling" can serve you better than "showing." A lot of writers have dedicated themselves to the rule "tell action, show emotion," but don't feel like you have to restrict yourself to one or the other.
iv. ABOVE ALL ELSE: Getting Words on the Page is More Important!
If you’re stuck on a section of your story and just can’t find it in yourself to write poetic, flowing prose, getting words on the paper is more important than writing something that’s “good.” If you want to be able to come back and fix it later, put your writing in brackets that you can Ctrl + F later.
Keeping your momentum is the hardest part of writing. Don't sacrifice your inspiration in favor of following rules!
3. How Can I Get Better at “Show, Don’t Tell”?

i. Use the Five Senses, and Immerse Yourself!
Imagine you’re the protagonist, standing in the scene that you have just created. Think of the setting. What are things about the space that you’d notice, if you were the one in your character’s shoes?
Smell? Hear? See? Touch? Taste?
Sight and sound are the senses that writers most often use, but don’t discount the importance of smell and taste! Smell is the most evocative sense, triggering memories and emotions the moment someone walks into the room and has registered what is going on inside—don’t take it for granted. And even if your character isn’t eating, there are some things that can be “tasted” in the air.
EXAMPLE:
TELLING: She walked into the room and felt disgusted. It smelled, and it was dirty and slightly creepy. She wished she could leave. SHOWING: She shuffled into the room, wrinkling her nose as she stepped over a suspicious stain on the carpet. The blankets on the bed were moth-bitten and yellowed, and the flowery wallpaper had peeled in places to reveal a layer of blood-red paint beneath…like torn cuticles. The stench of cigarettes and mildew permeated the air. “How long are we staying here again?” she asked, flinching as the door squealed shut.
The “showing” excerpt gives more of an idea about how the room looks, and how the protagonist perceives it. However, something briefer may be more suited for writers who are not looking to break the momentum in their story. (I.e. if the character was CHASED into this room and doesn’t have time to take in the details.)
ii. Study Movies and TV Shows: Think like a Storyteller, Not Just a Writer
Movies and TV shows quite literally HAVE TO "show, and not tell." This is because there is often no inner monologue or narrator telling the viewers what's happening. As a filmmaker, you need to use your limited time wisely, and make sure that the audience is engaged.
Think about how boring it would be if a movie consisted solely of a character monologuing about what they think and feel, rather than having the actor ACT what they feel.
(Tangent, but there’s also been controversy that this exposition/“telling” mindset in current screenwriting marks a downfall of media literacy. Examples include the new Percy Jackson and Avatar: The Last Airbender remakes that have been criticized for info-dumping dialogue instead of “showing.”)
If you find it easy to envision things in your head, imagine how your scene would look in a movie. What is the lighting like? What are the subtle expressions flitting across the actors' faces, letting you know just how they're feeling? Is there any droning background noise that sets the tone-- like traffic outside, rain, or an air conditioner?
How do the actors convey things that can't be experienced through a screen, like smell and taste?
Write exactly what you see in your mind's eye, instead of explaining it with a degree of separation to your readers.
iii. Listen to Music
I find that because music evokes emotion, it helps you write with more passion—feelings instead of facts! It’s also slightly distracting, so if you’re writing while caught up in the music, it might free you from the rigid boundaries you’ve put in place for yourself.
Here’s a link to my master list of instrumental writing playlists!
iv. Practice, Practice, Practice! And Take Inspiration from Others!
“Show Don’t Tell” is the core of an immersive scene, and requires tons of writing skills cultivated through repeated exposure. Like I said before, more experienced writers instinctively switch between showing and telling as they write— but it’s a muscle that needs to be constantly exercised!
If I haven’t written in a while and need to get back into the flow of things, I take a look at a writing prompt, and try cultivating a scene that is as immersive as possible! Working on your “Show, Don’t Tell” skills by practicing writing short, fun one-shots can be much less restrictive than a lengthier work.
In addition, get some inspiration and study from reading the works of others, whether it be a fanfiction or published novel!

ciel & sebastian w/ servant!reader around ciel's age ✧・゚
.
Hello! My writing blog was always meant to be multifandom, but recently I have had many twst requests. To keep up with my personal interests, here is a Kuroshitsuji/Black Butler post about my childhood bias/crush (when I was 11-12): Ciel Phantomhive.
While this post is tagged Sebastian x Reader, their relationship is platonic in this particular work because of the reader's design.
Please note that while requests are open, they will not be posted until after the 27th of December or more accurately into the new year (January 2025). Feel free to request anything within the parameters of my rules, but keep this scheduling fact in mind! Thank you!
.
Summary: [Name] is a recent addition to the Phantomhive Staff, gathered by Sebastian and Ciel. They are around Ciel's age and this leads to some... shenanigans.
TW/CW: canon-typical darkness, manga compliant
Notes: pre-relationship (Ciel), explicitly platonic (Sebastian), the reader is human, the reader is 12-13 years old, they/them pronouns for the reader, take place explicitly pre-Campania
Guest Stars: Phantomhive Staff, Elizabeth Midford (mentioned)

Ciel Phantomhive
Ciel is initially indifferent to [Name] similar to his feelings toward his other servants about half of the time (even Sebastian).
He doesn't see himself as a child so does it matter?
He honestly tries to avoid [Name] at first because he wants to be seen as an equal to the adults. Baldo commenting to "play" with his "friend" really doesn't help the early stages of the relationship.
Being persistent but not forceful will work well.
[Name] needs to prove their worth and use in the household.
[Name] will quickly prove themselves with "clean-up."
They will kill in the name of Earl Phantomhive.
Ciel notices their willingness to serve.
He admires their dedication to protecting him/the estate.
He is impressed if they do not hesitate to strike.
The more he realizes their use and loyalty, the more likely he is to speak to them or even allow [Name] to speak freely with him.
He doesn't like when Sebastian teases him for it, though.
Sebastian might be the biggest obstacle.
If Ciel feels that [Name] is being overbearing, they get sent to spend time with Finny (16) who is also relatively close in age to them. Though Finny is similar to a child brother at times.
Once they are closer, Ciel may become a bit irritable if [Name] gives Finny too much attention or coddling.
"He needs to act his own age."
Ciel cannot do anything about any possible feelings.
[Name] hesitates to do anything either.
They both understand the betrothal between Elizabeth and Ciel.
Finny had given them a suggestion that they weren't sure what to do with. Was it a good idea? No. Was it a curious one? Yes, indeed. They wanted to know what the master's response would be, but they feared it would only be anger for their disrespect. Still... tempting.
[Name] considered their options as they helped Finny in the garden.
"Do you really think that would be a good idea?" they asked him.
Finny nodded as he attempted to gently weed the garden. The last time Finny did this he ripped out some important plants and Sebastian had been ready to skin him. Since that happened, and after the events of last night's clean-up, maintenance was needed and Sebastian chose [Name] as "Finny Watch."
[Name] accepted it as it was.
"I think it would do the young master some good to have a friend his age who calls him by name! He doesn't have any friends..."
Finny seemed sad about it. [Name] wondered why Finny did not try to be a "friend" to their master, but Finny seemed to sense their curiosity. He shook his head.
"It can't be me, I'm older than the young master for one," he explained, "And the young master doesn't think of me like that."
"And he thinks of me as a friend?" [Name] chose to ask.
Finny nodded.
"I can tell he thinks differently of you!"
The gardener beamed at them and they didn't want to crush whatever whimsy and joy this was giving him. They sighed and gave in, knowing they wouldn't hear the end of it otherwise, especially after Finny told Baldo and Mey-Rin about it.
"I'll try and see," they agreed.
[SEVERAL HOURS LATER]
At the end of the day, Sebastian asked [Name] to report to the young master directly about their supervision of Finny and the state of the estate's gardens. [Name] walked into the room and bowed to their lord, nodding to Sebastian a moment after.
"Good evening," they spoke, not making eye contact with either.
"Good evening, [Name]," Ciel greeted, taking a sip of his tea as he watched them, "I trust you kept Finny under control?"
[Name] nodded.
"Yes, he took care of replanting and weeding. There were no, ah, plant deaths," they explained in as succinct a way as they could, "We talked as we worked and completed everything Sebastian told us to."
They had to ignore the soft stifled laugh that came from Sebastian when they fumbled for a phrase and chose "plant deaths."
"I see, very good then."
He seemed pleased. The master was in a good mood? Hm. This might be their chance so they took it without hesitation.
"Master, if I may speak freely for a moment?" they asked him
Ciel raised an eyebrow but he nodded slowly after a moment of contemplation.
"You may but whatever about?"
[Name] felt bad for confusing him but it was somewhat refreshing to hear the master speak without that underlying darkness in his tone.
"Finny suggested something to me. I would like to try something," [Name] explained, hoping this wouldn't ruin whatever relationship they did have with the master.
"Something. Very specific," was Ciel's comment, "Go ahead."
Ciel seemed certain [Name] wouldn't hurt him and even if they tried, Sebastian would handle them swiftly like he always did.
"Ah, thank you for your permission... Ciel."
There was a silence that fell over the room as neither child spoke. Ciel was frozen in place, Sebastian seemed to be holding back another laugh, and [Name] was unsure if Finny's theory was true.
A faint hue of pink dusted Ciel's cheeks as he averted his gaze.
"Was," he began, "Was that all you wanted?"
"Yes," [Name] admitted, "I'm sorry, sir."
Ciel was silent once again and [Name] worried they really had crossed a line, but then he spoke again, softer this time.
"It isn't as though I care what you call me when there aren't guests around," he said, waving the hand that wore his family's crest, "Do as you like with the estate's image in mind... I suppose."
[Name] couldn't disguise the smile that took over their features.
✧・゚: ✧・゚: ✧・゚: ✧・゚: ✧・゚: ✧・゚: ✧・゚: ✧・゚:
Sebastian Michaelis
To be quite frank, Sebastian thinks children are brats.
He didn't want another child around but it cannot be helped because [Name] is useful for the estate's security.
Despite not liking them at first, Sebastian is always "nice."
He is never without a polite smile, it's a bit unnerving.
As [Name]'s work proves proficient, he eases up.
They make fewer mistakes than the others.
Because of this, they are not so annoying to him.
"Child, you would do best not to hinder my work. But if you would like to lend me your help, you may."
He refers to [Name] more often as "child" or "littlest one."
He means they are the youngest of the servants.
He often lets [Name] off easy with punishment, similar to how he never scolds Tanaka the way he does with Baldo, Mey-Rin, Snake, and Finny.
Sebastian likes to make fun of [Name] and Ciel's similar ages.
He allows [Name] to sit in for Ciel's lessons at times.
In the end, Sebastian might be fond of the human.
Still, he won't say that kind of thing. What use would kind words be from someone like him? He doesn't much care for anyone.
He is bound to his master until the end of their contract.
That is all. Right?
"What in the world are you doing?" Sebastian asked as he came up to them, essentially appearing from thin air.
The young servant jumped at the sudden voice in the silence of the cellar and whipped around to face him, dropping their cleaning rag on the floor in the motion. Noting it was Sebastian, they let out a relieved sigh and bent down to pick up the rag.
"Sebastian! You startled me!" they told him, brows furrowed, "Why do you like to sneak up on me like that?"
Sebastian chuckled softly, a slight smile playing on his lips.
"I don't mean to. Perhaps you are just easily scared, child?"
"I don't think so," they said softly before they moved to continue their task, "And, I'm not done with this task yet. Did you have something else for me to do?"
They couldn't believe they had more work to do now. That was always why Sebastian came to see them, to give them a task someone else had botched or enlist their help with something else entirely.
"I did," the butler told them, "I seem to require your help with a lesson for the young master."
[Name] paused.
"A lesson?" they asked him, giving a skeptical look though they tried their best to mask it, "Would I be expected to come with you now?"
They were unsure if he was telling the truth. Sebastian enjoyed messing with them, just a little. But it was enough to make [Name] wonder every time the butler told them much of anything. They wanted to go to the lesson, though. Learning was... fun.
Sebastian noticed the look, being a demon and all, but said nothing about it. Instead, he simply nodded and smiled at them as he always did to the guests the manor received.
"Indeed. I would need you to accompany me to the study."
They weighed their options. Sebastian was probably not lying.
"Alright," they agreed a moment later, "Do I need to finish this task first? You did give me a list of things to make certain of here."
Sebastian shook his head.
"No, that won't be necessary. I will take care of it."
They almost bowed to him but caught themself. It was hard to treat Sebastian as a butler when he held himself with as much pride as any man would. Still, the one time they had spoken too highly of him, the young master had gotten upset with them (and Sebastian too).
It had been an... ordeal.
"I see. Thank you, then," they told him curtly though they couldn't help but smile.
A lesson! How fun! They wanted to cheer but didn't.
Even if they were only cleaning the room to spectate, it was a chance to learn things. They would learn something and earl was learning! It seemed like a fairly good deal in [Name]'s opinion.
Too focused on rushing to put away their supplies and head toward Ciel's study, they did not see a softer expression adorn the butler's face as he watched them move past him.
Perhaps they would never know his true affection for his littlest one.
.
.
Imagine the rest yourself~

Pairing: Nanami Kento x Black!Fem Reader
Rating/CW: Just a fluffy drabble of Nanami Kento loving you.
Summary: Early morning musings.
a/n: I've really been suffering from writer's block these past few months. The words come and go at a pace that's maddening, but thankfully, they stayed long enough for me to write this little piece.

"How did I get so lucky?"
It's the question that surfaces in Nanami's mind as he watches you sleep beside him, early morning light casting gentle shadows across your features. Your breathing is steady, peaceful, a barely there rumble with every inhale that he’s memorized over countless mornings like this one. Just as he’s done many times before, he traces the outline of your form, fingertips ghosting over your skin without disturbing you.
In those first few mornings of your relationship, your eyes would flutter open just from the proximity of his touch, catching him in his admiration. He wouldn’t bother to hide the blush, you would throw him a sleepy smile, then succumb to sleep again. Now, many mornings later, you’ve grown accustomed to his gentle exploration, allowing him to follow the curve of your shoulder, reconnecting the constellations that pepper your brown skin without stirring from your dreams.
In this position, while you sleep on your stomach, he can admire the subtle roll of skin on your neck where it meets your shoulder—a gentle landscape formed by the angle of your head against the silk pillow. It may be his own imaginings, but he can already smell the Shea butter from your neck, warming from the rising sun and wafting to tickle his nose in a half-remembered dream that lingers many hours into his work day.
Your diamond earrings glint in the morning light—beautiful studs you refuse to remove despite his concerns. He’s learned to love this small token of rebellion, unafraid to admit that the way the jewelry complements your skin makes you look particularly ethereal in the waking hours. The sunlight hits these diamonds at the right angle, splintering light in a mix of purple and green that plays across the curve of your cheek, as if nature is adorning you herself.
Even while unconscious, you are beautiful.
He traces up, fingertips brushing your lobe before smoothing through edges that have smeared on your skin like delicate wisps of morning fog. They’re perfect, tiny coils and curls that defy rule and frizz along your hairline, peeking from the cream satin bonnet. That bonnet, somehow still attached to you despite how wildly you sleep, showcases to him all the care you take with yourself, all the traditions passed sacred to you that he’s been allowed to learn, to witness, to cherish.
And god, how he cherishes the uninhibited abandon in which you sleep—the complete trust spoken in the way you sprawl across a mattress that was once solely his. Your cheek is creased from your pillowcase and hands, the corners of your lashes crystallized with evidence of your dreams, and your lips—slightly parted, pillowed with relaxation—glisten at one corner with moisture you have long stopped being embarrassed about in his presence.
It’s you in your purest form—unguarded, unfiltered, displaying a beauty more profound than anything the waking world gets to see. It’s you without makeup, you without measured words, underneath social performances, practiced smiles, and expectations—the raw truth of you, morning breath and all.
Just his. It’s a privilege so deep that it makes his chest ache, the gratitude overwhelming.
"How did I get so lucky?"
Nanami remembers the strict parameters he once set around relationships—the necessary boundaries, the premeditated time commitments, the emotional distance he maintained without thinking. Work—for as firm as he is about clocking out on time—came first, then necessities, then, if time allowed and he had the mental stamina, connection. For him, it was efficient. But terribly lonely.
Naturally, you shifted it all without trying.
The memory of seeing you for the first time still replays in his mind—fresh as the day it happened, enhanced by his own untempered affection that grows over time. He’s carried an unspoken envy for his parents’ love-at-first-sight story his entire life, a curmudgeon of his own making that could also speak of self-sabotage in relationships that never lasted. Surely they were exaggerating? Love at first sight? As if the cosmos aligned at the right moment to bring Mr. and Mrs. Nanami together? Nanami refused to believe it.
And yet he’ll tell anyone who will listen that every grievance he held about the concept evaporated the moment he saw you. Surrounded by greenery and the stifling heat of a plant nursery, perfect textured hair framing your face that pursed with contemplation, neck curved over a large Monstera Deliciosa. A sage sundress that fluttered over your form like gossamer wings catching the sunlight, the shimmer of your sunscreen across the expanse of your shoulders like dewdrops, a cock in your hip as you studied the plant only made you stand out as sublime elegance amongst the foliage.
Admittedly, he remembers feeling only embarrassment when he reached for the plant before his mind could truly register your presence—his original quest into the nursery solely to find a gift for his secretary, who was becoming a new mother.
He remembers the embarrassment flaring liquid hot in his chest when your eyes flashed with surprise and indignation that he would take something you had mentally staked claim to. He remembers how disorienting it all was—the sudden awareness of you as if the rest of the nursery had faded to shadows. Your brow had lifted in disbelief as you rolled your eyes and brushed past him, the subtle scent of what he now knows as Shea butter lingering in the humid air. Nanami found himself frozen, the Monstera forgotten in his hands, his perfectly ordered thoughts scattering like leaves in a sudden breeze.
He remembers how that white hot embarrassment quickly morphed into something unfamiliar, fleeting in previous relationships but never as prominent as in that moment—a flutter in his stomach, a tightness in his chest, and a desperation that he’s thankful to have embraced.
“I’m buying a gift for a new mother, but maybe I can find something that would not require so much care,” he’d said, the words tumbling from his mouth like a wobbling newborn calf as he watched you stop, turn to face him, guarded eyes taking him in. “Do you have any suggestions?”
He remembers how his heart hammered against his ribcage as he waited for your response, how the simple act of breathing seemed almost impossible. How utterly mortifying it was to realize that in thirty seconds, you had changed everything for him. How unbelievably confused he felt when the cosmos he mocked aligned for him when he ran into you at a bookstore days later, giving him the courage to ask you for coffee, for your number, for a date, and the many that followed to create the perfect cacophony of love.
"How did I get so lucky?"
It’s almost ridiculous how fortunate he is. How he gets to hear you laugh—genuine and unrestrained, choked around a snort when he’s said something particularly dry. How he gets to hear your musings in the comfort of your home—the melodic cadence of your humming when you bake, the unprecedented sailor mouth that would make his mother faint, the conversations you have with your dog as he follows you to the backyard. Every day, despite being subject to it many times, it feels like the very first time.
The novelty of it will never fade, because Nanami still calculates how to make you laugh so hard your lashes bubble with tears. He still asks what song you’re humming, knowing you’ll always reply “I made it up”. He still pretends to be shocked that the way a curse word flies from your mouth doesn’t make him unnaturally turned on. He still raises both brows when he hears you conversing with the dog, even though he has embraced the same habit.
"How did I get so lucky?"
The variation of thought comes naturally as his fingers fall back to his side, careful not to disturb you. There was a time when luck meant nothing to him—when grief was the only emotion he allowed himself to fully embrace, a painful reminder of his humanity when everything else felt hollow.
There was only one person who had truly seen him—experienced and witnessed the raw parts of the awkward growth through puberty, commiserated over failed crushes, shared late nights playing video games, and made him laugh until his stomach hurt. When that person was ripped away before their life could truly begin, it left Nanami in denial for so long that isolation became his sanctuary.
Each subsequent attempt at connection through romantic means only reinforced what experience had taught him—that opening a sliver of himself inevitably led to another goodbye, another confirmation that vulnerability was simply an invitation for devastation.
So it’s odd how that worry sprouted in the youth of your relationship with him but was never strong enough to take root. He was healthier, stronger even, and intelligent enough to know that you would not settle for someone who only loved in half-truths. For the first time, the fear of losing someone by not trying, outweighed the fear of the pain that might come with trying and failing.
When Nanami had the choice between protecting himself and never knowing you completely, or risking that devastation for the chance to build something real, he found himself making a choice that his deceased friend would have encouraged with a smile that could make the sun rise.
His efforts have paid off.
As the world wakes up and the noise of cars increases from the cracked window, Nanami counts his lucky stars that he tried. As he watches you sleep, he feels something swell in his chest—a fullness that once scared him but now feels like coming home after a long day.
Soon, he’ll slip out of bed like he does every morning, each day a ritual of thankfulness for the life he almost denied himself. Soon he’ll walk into the kitchen and measure coffee grounds with the same precision he applies to everything, his eyes drifting to the mug you always use—chipped on the handle, crafted from an impromptu class you dragged him to as a second date. He’d been so focused on not embarrassing himself with clumsy hands that he’d missed the exact moment you decided he was worth keeping.
Soon he will slide a fresh cup to you across the counter, taking in your ruffled form—bonnet still secure, eyes heavy with sleep, a blanket wrapped around you because you’re always cold, even in summer. The sight will catch in his throat like it always does, you trusting and vulnerable, showing a version of yourself that transforms his once sterile apartment into a home where love blooms in every corner.
But for now, he watches as you grumble and smack your lips, rolling over until your head is resting on his chest. He blooms with heat, an iridescent sensation that radiates outward from that exact spot, like your memory lives beneath his skin and thrums to life when you’re close. You wrap an arm around him, whether it’s to test the firmness of a pillow or to make sure it’s still him, he’s not quite sure. But it means nothing when you fall back into slumber, snoring softly against him, your breath a metronome that’s synched with his over time.
The rush of it all settles into his bones like it does every morning as he relaxes, his hand tracing the column of your spine absentmindedly.
You chose him. From the moment you rolled your eyes in that nursery, some invisible thread connected you both, and despite it all, that thread held tight. Out of all possibilities, out of all potential paths, you chose this one—with him. Not out of necessity or convenience, but with deliberate, purposeful love that continues to choose him, minute after minute, hour after hour, day after day.
"How did I get so lucky?"
“Kento,” you slur against his chest, voice gravelly with sleep, “stop thinking so loud so I can sleep. It’s too early.”
It’s almost eleven in the morning. But Nanami can do nothing but chuckle softly, pressing a kiss to your forehead, marveling as your curls tickle his nose before his fingers return to their pilgrimage across your body. Each brush of him against you comes with an unspoken promise—that he will never take this for granted, that he will chose you every morning just as purposefully as you chose him.
"How did I get so lucky?"
Who knows. But Nanami will spend every day making sure he deserves it.
Thanks for reading!

Rules below the cut:
This event will be centered on characters with disabilities and chronic conditions, both visible (ex, paraplegia; limb differences) and invisible (ex, migraines; CFS). For writing to qualify, please have one or more disabled/chronically ill characters as the focus of your story, rather than a side character/cameo in a story about abled characters. Prompts are meant to facilitate stories about disability and disabled characters in the genres of hurt/comfort and whump (also known as hurt-no-comfort).
"Disability" can have a broad definition, and many conditions can be disabling. The moderator will not be filtering or rejecting submissions based on what medical conditions "count"; the only parameter is that the central character lives with a chronic condition of some type which is disabling for them in some way. Disabililties which come about in a fantasy or sci-fi setting are welcome as long as they are portrayed as being disabling in some way which is anaolgous (eg, a permanent problem caused by magic, or vampirism as a fantasy-disability).
Please do not TAG your posts/links with the names of disabilities you are writing about, or with “disability” or “chronic illness”, as those tags are used by disabled folks to talk about our RL disabilities and in the past there have been issues with writers inadvertently clogging those tags with fiction/writing advice.
Please DO tag your posts and links #disabledwhc2025 and, in a second tag, the day (eg, #day 1: established disability) so the mod can find and reblog them to the blog!
Original work and fanfic are both welcome; anything goes in terms of settings and genres (fantasy, sci-fi) as long as it’s h/c or whump.
You do not have to write for every prompt (that’s why there’s a mix of hurt and comfort!) or every day to be featured. If you don’t have time for 30 days, do as many as you feel like. If you only write either H/C or Whump, you can do a 15-day challenge, reinterpret the hurt prompts to include comfort, and/or find a whumpy spin on the comfort prompts.
If you write prompts out of order please still tag which day you are writing for and the title of that prompt set. So if you decide to post the prompt “frustrated ambition” from the set “Loss”, which is day 21, on April 3, please still tag your April 3 post “day 21: loss”.
There are no restrictions on what content can be posted, but please use content notes for the following topics: "Rape/noncon" "Underage" "Graphic Depictions of Violence" (ie gore), and "Major Character Death" before the start of your piece. You can also use the warning "Creator Chose Not to Use Content Warnings" if you do not want to spoil fic. Please use a "read more" for these pieces.
Please tag any NSFT works (explicit sexual content) as "NSFT". Please use a "read more" for these pieces.

Twst as yandere brothers?
Hey… How y’all doing…?
These are headcanons for the Housewardens. Also, GN! Reader who is not Yuu. Platonic, for obvious reasons.
Warning: I do not condone Yandere behavior in real life.
Riddle Rosehearts
Ever the perfectionist, you get the brunt of it, unfortunately
No time is spent outside of classes or Heartslabyul or any extracurriculars you took up just to make sure that no one ‘corrupts’ you
It sometimes seems like he doesn’t love you, but he does
He’s trying to protect you from the wrath of your guys’ mother when you both inevitably return home for breaks
When he overblots, his first instinct is to protect you and shield you away from everyone
Once everything is restored, however, he gives you an apology
That doesn’t mean you can go hanging around anyone aside from his trusted list of people: Trey. Just Trey.
Leona Kingscholar
For the longest time, his only source of joy was seeing himself as above you
Since you are the youngest, he essentially wanted you to worship him since he is your older brother
He’s not exactly strict, but he doesn’t want you messing around with the wrong crowd
This means that you have a detail of Savanaclaw members following you around
When he overblots, he realizes how horribly he has treated you… to the point that you would turn against him
After he recovers, he makes more of an effort to be a better older brother to you
The detail does not go away, though, because he needs to make sure you are safe
Azul Ashengrotto
He definitely depended on you for validation during your entire childhood
A lot of your time was spent in the Mostro Lounge, working so that Azul can keep a very close eye on you
Jade and Floyd definitely watch you closely as well, but only because Azul threatens to deduct their pay if they don’t
It’s hard for you to make friends because you have two scary eels trailing behind you at all times
When he overblots, it definitely opens up a lot of conversation between you two, especially when you don’t defend him.
Instead, you stand up to him, fed up with his treatment of you over the years
Once he recovers, he calls off Jade and Floyd, but he still makes sure any friends you make know that he’s more than willing to ruin them
Kalim Al-Asim
You were his favorite sibling out of the 30+ siblings that you both share, and for that, you regret being born
Sure, he acknowledged how unique you were, and often supported you in your interests, but he was very clingy all of the time
Jamil would often distract him so that you could have a moment to yourself
To say you were glad when he was accepted to NRC would be an understatement, since his affections were suffocating
After Jamil overblotted, and they decided to return home for a bit, Kalim was even more clingy… especially since he realized that everything he believed about Jamil was a lie
Now you have to constantly reassure him that you won’t betray him, especially since he’s the one set to inherit everything since he’s the eldest
Jamil is no longer a saving grace for you
Vil Schoenheit
Assuming that you are not a celebrity in your own right, he is working hard to make sure the public and the paparazzi know very little about you
He also makes sure that you are not a fan of Neige LeBlanche, nor that you ever become a fan of him
Uses you for daily validation, essentially, and it’s hella annoying for you
To retaliate, you team up with Epel or you ask Rook about Neige’s newest film so you could further piss Vil off
When Vil overblots, he also feels betrayed when you take the other side in opinion
Unvoiced emotions and feelings on both sides are definitely made known afterward during his recovery, where you told him that you were your own person
Thus, he lets you be your own person under very strict parameters… though, you are still unable to consume Neige LeBlanche content
Idia Shroud
After the death of your guys’ brother, Idia definitely grew more attached to you
There were new rules implemented at home in order to keep you safe, but you were forced to stay near him anyway due to the family curse
Of course, in the meantime, you were allowed to do your own thing, as long as he was able to keep a close eye on you as you did it
When Ortho is rebuilt, Idia lets off of you for a bit, but when you are accepted into NRC, it gets bad again
His overblot was bad, especially since you couldn’t do anything to help Yuu and Grim because of your need to stay near blot (family curse)
During his recovery, he gave a tearful apology, and you forgave him since he was your older brother
Unfortunately, because he’s your older brother, your still watched closely via Ortho and the school cameras
Malleus Draconia
We all know that Malleus grew up extra lonely, so if he had a sibling, he would definitely be very attached to them
All day, every day… you were trailed by a detail of guards because Malleus needs to make sure that his younger sibling is safe
Not only that, but the kingdom needs to make sure you’re safe in the case that something happens to Malleus or he abdicates the throne
At NRC, Lilia tries to convince Malleus to let you go out and have some fun and join clubs that weren’t the Gargoyle Club, but he refuses
His overblot made his clinginess worse as it was caused by Lilia leaving… and he thinks he would die if his sibling left Briar Valley to do something else
Once he recovers, he realizes that you’re going to find a way to get the freedom that he’s been depriving you of, so his first olive branch extension was allowing you to join a club apart from the Gargoyle Club
Slowly, he is getting used to the idea of being apart from you, and while it hurts, he knows it's necessary.

Question for the artist, whats the parameters for drawing fusion fanart? Because a lot of people see it as a romanic thing, but it isnt always that. For example, are you okay with fans drawing steven fused the crystal gems? Are you okay with fans drawing any fusions including CG, or is that an ick?
Okay, SO. I apologize for answering this late - I was trying to find the correct way to reply to this ask without coming off as someone extremely senile and jaded.
First things first - I really appreciate you taking my feelings into consideration on this! I can tell it comes from a place of genuine kindness and caring, and I think that's awesome.
I'm not unfamiliar with the fact that some artists feel very protective of their characters, and sometimes try to lay down rules about how they are to be viewed, how they are to be drawn by others, etc. So I don't blame you at all for assuming this is something that needs to be done, given the current fandom environment in certain spaces.
That all being said.
This idea that drawing characters in Situations Which May Be Uncomfortable To Someone With A Specific Interpretation Of The Media (which is not at all supported by canon text) is transgressive is..... boy...... that's not a good one.
It is..... Extremely Evangelical in its conception.
Guys. GUYS. Thought crime isn't a crime. ART isn't a crime.
But to answer your question -
Yes, you can absolutely draw Steven - WD!AU Steven - fusing with the gems or CG.
Yes, you can absolutely draw CG fusing with Steven or the Crystal Gems, etc.
Because
Even if someone DID assume fusion was romantic primarily, that doesn't mean it should be the default, and in fact it ISN'T. Many, MANY fusions in the show are not representative of romantic relationships.
Canon Steven, in the Canon show, fused with TONS of people he didn't have romantic feelings for. Most of the people, outside of Connie, for a start.
Even if imagining CG in a romantic relationship with the Crystal Gems DOES give me the 'ick' (which, actually, yeah, it kinda does I guess, given that I can't really see that thing happening given that she's effectively (not LITERALLY) a child) that doesn't mean YOUR art has to be limited by my presumptions of what fusion means in this context, if we disagree on it
And not to put too fine a point on it but
Fusion ISN'T inherently about romance.
Fusion ISN'T inherently sexual!
No part of the show supports either of these ideas. Fusion is and always has been explicitly about various types of RELATIONSHIPS - including things like sibling bonds (Smokey Quartz), parent-child relationships (Steg, Steven and ANY of the CGs), friendships, Unhealthy Control-Seeking (Malachite) and just straight up collaborative murder (a la Aquamarine and Ruby).
Yes, some fusions ARE inherently romantic in nature, but that does not mean ALL fusions adhere to these rules. In fact, MOST fusions aren't even about that.
And even if they were.............we're all allowed to express our OWN interpretation of things using art. That's not an Ungood Thought that you should be shamed for.
thank you for coming to my ted talk
#chekhov answers#this ask made me a little feral sorry#nothing against the OP#just this attitude that has become Normalized in fandom#is NOT healthy

TOP GUN
…is part of The Bookshelf.
⇨ This is a collection of my favorite fanfics/oneshots on Tumblr I love to re-read once in a while. None of those works belong to me! Feel free to use it as well.
⇨ My own works are here

Jake "Hangman" Seresin
This Isn’t What It Looks Like Summary: Hangman is totally, 100% over his ex… he just needs a fake girlfriend to prove it.
Baby, you down? Summary: 5 times Bradley was blissfully unaware of who you’re dating and the 1 time he wasn’t.
Saviour
Major Mistakes
Clock Don't Stop Summary: After a big fight, you need some time away from Jake. A song that you are listening to reminds you of a very important lesson. Can you and Jake fix things?
Try Losing One Summary: After a big fight, Hangman takes a drive to clear his mind. A song that comes on the radio fits perfectly.
Karma Summary: The fight that leads up to the events of "Try Losing One" and "Clock Don’t Stop".
It’s Not Me, It’s You Summary: Your ex is back in town and that might be the kick in the ass Hangman needs to change the parameters of your situationship.
Aw Honey Honey Summary: Jake isn't sharing his sugar.
Sleep Tight Summary: Jake Seresin knows he’s a good pilot. But what happens when skill and luck run out and you find your husband in the hospital for the first time?
You're Not My Type Summary: You only spent one evening with Jake, but it was enough to leave you wanting more and also have you hoping to never see him again.
Just Friends Summary: Everyone seems to think you’re Jake Seresin’s girl. It’s easier than explaining to them that you’re just friends with benefits. But that arrangement doesn’t seem to be working for either of you anymore.
Married? Summary: After Jake is called back to Top Gun for a mission, him and the Dagger Squad go out to the Hard Deck one night where Javy gets absolutely hammered and lets it slip that Jake has a wife.
I Just Want You To Like Me Summary: You’re a bartender at the Hard Deck while completing grad school, which is how you met Jake Seresin. You and Jake began a “friends with benefits” type deal, using Jake’s aviation obligations and your education as reasoning why things couldn’t get too serious. Over the months, you have started to harbor deeper feelings towards him, afraid to speak up about it and potentially ruin everything you have with him. But when Jake returns from a two-month mission, your feelings for him reach a turning point in a moment of self-consciousness.
The Beanery Summary: Jake goes from drinking the base’s stale coffee to bringing in cups from the cafe down the road from the hard deck, and the Dagger Squad is determined to find out why.
Opposites Attract Summary: How can Hangman, cocky, arrogant Hangman fall in love with a girl who is so different than him and raise a family completely opposite of him?
Rule Number One
Long Time Gone (Series) Summary: Penny Benjamin’s niece works at The Hard Deck, saving the money she earns to get out of the west coast and put herself through Graduate School. What happens when a pretty boy pilot ends up as her fake boyfriend?
Coffee For Mrs. Seresin?
Never Knew (That I Could Fall So Hard) Summary: You and Jake are friends. Just friends.
Ice Ice Baby Summary: He knows he annoys you. You know he annoys you. And he’s made it his mission to melt your cold, dead heart.
Right Back To You
A Ghost Playing Hangman (Series) Summary: Ghost was one of the most recent graduates from Top Gun quickly making a name for herself. When she gets recalled with the best of the best, she realizes her work is cut out for her if she wants to make the team. And one of her biggest obstacles is a blonde hair pilot with the world’s most annoying smirk. Will she make the team? And if so, at what cost?
Touch and Go Summary: You and Jake had been sleeping together for months, and as sure as you were of your feelings for him, you were unsure of his for you. He, however, certainly knew how he felt about you, and after you decide to go on a long trip without telling him, he lets you know just exactly what’s on his mind.
Wants and Needs Summary: Jake "Hangman" Seresin sets his sights on you, Rooster's best friend, but it doesn't take long for you to understand what type of man the cocky, blond pilot is. Unfortunately for Hangman, you have no interest in a womanizer.
Who Did This To You? Summary: In your most vulnerable hour, Jake "Hangman" Seresin is the one to find you, and the one to ask you the ultimate question: "Who did this to you?"
Until Him Summary: He's all bronzed confidence, a stupid fly boy you should hate. Yet, you can't help the little thoughts that plague your mind.
Hooked From Hour One Summary: He watched as Rooster took you around, introducing you to everyone and Jake's eye twitched. The two of you looked awfully comfortable around each other, with tons of physical contact. You and Jake hadn't been dating long, but he thought that you were on the same stage as him when it concerned your relationship. Were you cheating on Rooster with him? But you wouldn't do that, right?
Nightmares Summary: In which you were in an accident during a mission, and have a nightmare that night, but Hangman is there to help and finally confesses his feelings.
Split Summary: You break up with Jake because his actions make you question everything you've had between you, but he wants you to take him back.
You Left Me No Choice But To STay Here Forever (Right Were You Left Me) Summary: You and Jake have been best friends for years and eventually he becomes the love of your life - which makes it that much harder to cope when he starts pulling away with no explanation.
Tolerate It Part 1, Part 2 Summary: Things had been off with Jake recently. He wouldn’t do anything to hurt you. Or so you thought.
Too Good to be True Summary: A handsome pilot has been making eyes at you all night and you can't even begin to wrap your head around it.
Forgetting Summary: Jake forgets to pick you up at the airport because of his ex, and for the first time, you think maybe you and Jake aren't mean to be.

Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw
A Nice, Big Rooster Summary: Rooster is surprised to run into you on North Island. He's not, however, surprised to find that he still wants you as much as always.
It's Only My Heart (Save Yourself) Summary: Rooster's very bad, terrible day.
M.U.R.P.H. Summary: An undisclosed pregnancy that you and your husband try keeping a secret ends up being the reason you end up in hospital during a PTI session with the Dagger Squad.
Webb Of Unfortunate Events Summary: Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw was and always would be the love of your life. When the pair of you are brought back to Top Gun, neither of you expected Pete Mitchell to be your instructor — a series of unfortunate events leads to your hospitalisation, with Rooster by your side.
The Ironies of Life Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4 Summary: A few weeks after breaking up with her long-term boyfriend because he wouldn't commit to marriage and kids, Naomi finds out that she's pregnant with his baby.
I Would Never Hurt You Summary: Bradley saw the bruises and knew what was going on, but he also knew you didn't need him the way he needed you.
Red Flags, Green Flags Summary: Hangman complains about his date's red flags, but Bradley thinks this girl sounds amazing.
I Still Want You Summary: Bradley had been an idiot when it came to you. He still wanted you, but did you still want him?
My Future In You (Masterlist) Summary: Bradley’s twenty-two years old and not where he’s supposed to be. He’s supposed to be out of the academy by now. Instead, he’s retaking his senior year of college and praying to god that he gets into flight school. Mav’s gone, his mom’s gone. He’s mad at the world. Then, a hook up at a Halloween party changes his future even more than he could have imagined.
You don’t want this, do you? Summary: Reader is pregnant, but it's not Bradley's baby.
Misinterpretation of the Heart Summary: With Rooster away on a mission, you're left feeling lonely and missing him. That's when a past love comes back into your life just as Rooster returns home.
A Misinterpreted Loss Summary: Bradley finally asked you out, but what happens when he walks out with another girl? Running to your best friend seemed like the only logical answer.
This Is Me Trying Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 Summary: Bradley Bradshaw was the bane of your existence back at UVA. You practically burnt yourself out trying to outdo him. Now, you've quit your big shot engineering job in search of something more meaningful. The wind blows you across the country and into fightertown, where a familiar, sandy haired jackass is crooning away at the stupid piano in some naval bar. And you're not sure if you should wait for the next gust or plant your feet down.
Protective Summary: "He would've just kicked your ass... now he's gonna kill you."
What Have You Done? Summary: Pete's daughter is as wild as him, she's also as passionate as him. However, an incident during high school drove them apart until they were called back to Top Gun. The uranium mission too, took them from each other, leaving her helpless as she couldn't do anything to make the situation better and save the people she loves.

Beau "Cyclone" Simpson
The Admirals Strike Back Summary: Maverick knew that his somewhat estranged daughter was married. He just didn't know who she married.
Banished
Do I?
Mav's Daughter Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4

Tom "Iceman" Kazansky
The Engineer Summary: You're just the engineer, a man like Tom Kazansky should have no reason to pay attention to you. Or at least that's what you thought.
Promise? Summary: You hear something that you’re not supposed to. Ice tries to explain himself. But is he too late?
She's His Girl Summary: Maverick has a talk with Iceman after the events in the locker room. Once you finally have a chance to explain yourself, Maverick realizes just how much you love each other.
Touch Summary: Ice notices that you have become more distant since you moved in together. When it’s been nearly weeks of you avoiding his touch, he confronts you about it.
Brothers Best Friend
Fatal Attraction Summary: Muchlike every other person that came across Tom "Iceman" Kazansky, you had developed quite the crush on him. What made you different, though, was that you were the niece of his direct superior. He knew it was wrong, and he knew he shouldn't entertain the idea in the slightest, but a little teasing never killed anyone, right?
Biggest Regret Summary: His biggest regret was that argument. It escalated beyond anything he wanted, but he gave you what you wanted. Would you still be waiting for him 6 months later?
Who Would've Thought Summary: When Iceman gets a pleasant surprise during the Top Gun training, it’s safe to say he isn’t the only one surprised.
Dash Summary: Being Slider's little sister is anything but easy, especially when you are placed among the best of the best.
Best Behavior Summary: Iceman has never been known as one to lose his temper. Secure in every single thing in his life, you, his girlfriend, happened to be no exception. During a night out at the bar, he witnesses a man with an ego almost as big as his try to flirt with you. Naturally, he contemplates murder.
Love of my Life Summary: Tom hadn't told his fellow pilots he's a married man. There's great satisfaction when he witnesses their reactions after you do it for him.
For What It's Worth Summary: Sometimes all it takes is a RIO who likes to gossip and some friendly competition to help you understand what you feel for Ice.
Wrong Answer, Sweetheart Summary: This man? Jealous? Possessive? Wherever did you get that idea?
Hurry Back to Me, Soldier
My Doll Summary: Who knew that Mister "Ice Cold, No Mistakes" could be with literal sunshine personified?

Nick "Goose" Bradshaw
A Little Gosling Part 1, Part 2 Summary: Some frantic goodbye sex with your secret boyfriend Goose yields a little surprise. Four months later, Goose comes back stateside to attend Top Gun. Now, all you need to worry about is telling him before your brother Maverick finds out.
You Know Why Summary: You're a sexy sweetheart with a past and a toxic boyfriend. Goose sees that and wants better for you. Why? You know why.
Family Is What You Make It Summary: When Goose and Carole decided for a mutual divorce after realizing that they worked better as friends and co-parents rather than as Mr. and Mrs. Bradshaw, they knew that along the line they would meet new people on their journeys — and now Nick wants Bradley and Carole to meet you, because he really likes you, and he wants them to like you too.
Gold Rush Summary: All the years of silent pining and anticipation between you and Goose are put to test when he realizes that if he doesn’t make his move, he's going to lose you — and maybe Maverick and Bradley help a little.
Head over Heels Summary: Goose goes on a bad date and wants to give up. Maverick tells him that he just can't sit around and wait for the perfect girl to come around. Except fate has other plans.
Saunter Summary: As Viper's secretary, you encounter a new set of hotshot pilots every 6 weeks, but a certain WSO catches your eye, and you can't help but fall for him... and his mustache.
You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin' Summary: Goose meets you at the Miramar Officers’ Club and after a drink and a brief conversation he wished would never end he believes that he’ll never see you again. Little did he know while this may have been your first meeting, it would not be your last.
The Perfect Weekend Summary: Reader is Maverick’s little sister. Goose and her have been in a secret relationship for a while and finally get a weekend to themselves. What happens when Maverick returns early.

Robert "Bob" Floyd
King Of My Heart Summary: An accident during training and a little liquid courage has Bob finally making his move.

Most of you don't realize the limits of creating pjsk ocs are literally just "Hatsune Miku has bestowed you with a world from your feelings. Enjoy." So, I've come here once again to remind you guys to be creative.
Here are some parameters I rarely see being played around with while creating pjsk ocs:
Age: project sekai was created for a younger audience. However, characters in project sekai are a representation of the music producers (as in they create songs for Virtual Singers to sing), and a composer can be any age desired. This is not a limitation.
Character nationalities: yes, it would make the most sense for your setting to be Japan. However, seeing as vocaloid are international idols, that is not a limitation. 99% of those that read this have listened to vocaloid, only 1% if not less are Japanese. This is not a limitation.
Speciality: a common misconception is that, in order for Miku to become interested in you, you have to be a singer/composer. This makes sense, but had been proven wrong by canon itself: Rui is a director, Ena is an artist, Mizuki is a capcut editor. Heck, it's never even specified anyone outside of Nene sing in wxs. This is not a limitation.
People per unit: FOUR IS NOT A LIMITATION. PLEASE. If you're a perfectionist, you might want to have your card sets make sense, but I've seen people figure it out with groups of 3 or even 6. This is not a limitation.
I'm so tired of you guys saying it's not possible for an Urdu 70 year old lady to discover Hatsune Miku and go "oh! I like this :)" and then wake up in a parallel pocket dimension with a Japanese man pretending to be a cowboy, a Samoan Mozart-in-the-making twelve year old and Kagamine Rin.
It IS possible and if it's not, it would be FUN AS HELL, and that is PRIORITY.
Fuck shit up. Go crazy. Cringe is dead and you'll be too in a few years. Carpe diem til it kills you.
We don't know what a Sekai is, and we don't know what a fragment is. How are songs made? We don't KNOW! And even if you would like to abide by the pjsk worldbuilding rules, there's still so much you can play around with!
And don't even get me started on what you can do with SEKAI!! It's a world created from your feelings, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE, especially because we don't know ANYTHING about them!
By the rules we're given in pjsk, Sekai could solve world hunger. By the rules we're given in pjsk, you can technically bring an unlimited amount of cats into your world. And if you take in the Miku Lore about her being from the future, A TIME TRAVELING SEKAI IS SOMEWHAT POSSIBLE.
This post you might know me for was actually a recycling of my own ocs! And guess what, by the rules we're given in the game, THIS COULD VERY MUCH WORK.
#mine ☜#project sekai#pjsk#pjsekai#prsk#project sekai oc#project sekai ocs#pjsk of#prsk oc#pjsekai oc#something went wrong and i had to repost this sorry guys

yan aventurine stresses choice and consequence.
you aren't given set parameters to work with. who you can talk to, for how long, and what about — these are variables you must parse out yourself. rules can be contorted, they're the ideal fabric for weaving loopholes. understanding is the first key to undoing. you're able to operate at your own discretion, unobstructed from the many obstacles he could easily dole out.
it's up to you to gauge risk and reward.
you can unlock the door to the quarters you share with him. yes, there are IPC grunts on the other side, but they're like statues, remaining immobile as you flit about. corridors respond to your biometrics and unseal, granting you easy access. his approach is decidedly laissez-faire. he wants to see what you'll do, how you'll go about undermining him. will you bet it all on one daring escape? or will you bide your time, concocting an elaborate web of little schemes meant to ensnare him?
the endless possibilities excite him.
for you, it's far less fun.
aventurine never outright says you can't leave. should you work up the courage to ask, his answer is enigmatic and induces dread, encapsulating the theme that'll go on to shape your foreseeable future:
"you can do whatever you want," he says. then, resting his chin atop his steepled fingers, he adds, "but so can i."
you don't get it until you amass some experience.
flirt with the waiter serving you dinner to try and needle at him, he won't interrupt. steal evidence that incriminates the IPC and begin a dialogue with a journalist, his internet access is all yours. kiss him while waiting for the chance to use a knife concealed on your person, he'll act like he never saw you swipe it.
the next time you play roulette with aventurine, he later reveals the number you chose went on to decide how many hours that waiter has left to live. the day you collect all your evidence, you'll find him playing with the USB, fully willing to hand it over... if you don't mind the IPC obliterating the publisher you've been contacting. aim for his heart with your hidden blade and he'll pin you, along with the hand holding it, to the wall whilst never parting from your lips.
he meant it when he said do what you want. still, don't mistake a lack of explicitly established rules for total impunity. rules might impede you, but they lend a degree of consistency. you know what to expect, how the punishment fits the 'crime.'
without them, though, every choice has never been such a gamble.

pretty as a vine (sweet as a grape)

pairing: luke castellan x reader summary: luke castellan might be everyone's favorite councilor over the summer. he might be a little too sweet for you in the fall. word count: 1.7k warnings: none
authors note: thank you to @wlntrsldler for letting me steal this concept from you even if making luke a real tried and true loser was a struggle. hope y'all enjoy!!
It was rare to see Camp Half-Blood’s golden boy without his signature smile on his face; always ready to help, always ready to please.
You’d only had a handful of conversations with Luke Castellan, passing words in the height of hectic summer heat. Most of them in the middle of the night, when all the campers should be tucked away in the cabins, but you’d take the brief moments of quiet to wander the grounds with a lit cigarette hanging off your lips.
Luke would approach you every time, always the same way, a pink flush on his cheeks and a quiet, timid voice telling you that he had to enforce the rules, that he had to send you back to your cabin because it was past curfew.
You’d roll your eyes, lick your lips, wave the smoke obscuring your view of him away playfully and promise to head back after this one. He’d nod and walk away, and you’d pretend not to notice his silhouette hidden behind one of the trees, not quite obscured enough by the lack of lighting to go wholly unnoticed, waiting for you to make your way back to where you’re supposed to be.
He was sweet, too sweet, sometimes. Making sure you were safe, that nothing bad would happen to you even after taking his supposed leave. It was cute, really, how he acted around you underneath the starlight, always so nervous and flustered, like he’d never seen a woman before. You supposed, confined to the parameters of camp for so many years, he really hadn’t seen many of them.
It’s something you carry with you this year, watching as summer fades into fall, how camp suddenly empties. You’re not sure what to make of it, how still everything seems now, how the usual noise dampens into almost nothing and you itch for the hurriedness of July to return.
You’re lucky, really, to have spent so long exploring the world beyond camp, seeing what growing up had to offer as if it were normal. A lot of the kids you see now, they haven’t experienced a half of what you have, trading high school for battling dragons at someone else’s request, and it shows each year like clockwork.
If you’re honest, hidden behind the treeline near the lake, camp makes you uneasy like this. Less busy, less extreme - walking the thin line between a place to train and a place to live - and it has you more on edge than before. It could be that you’ve grown accustomed to the bustle of the Boston streets. It might just be that Luke has been hiding just beyond view since you lit your cigarette.
“I know, I know,” you say when he finally approaches. He stumbles, familiar flush blotching the skin of his neck, climbing the tips of his ears. “Just let me finish this one.”
He nods and you wait for him to walk away, follow his usual path back into the forest. He doesn’t, standing on the damp grass nearby without saying a word, and you look at him again.
You’re used to seeing Luke Castellan in different forms - it’s part of how he lives. Nervous and unsure and so confident with a sword that it’s a little insane that he’s the same person during training as is standing in front of you now.
He’s got this little dip to his shoulders, fingers tapping against his own thigh as you stare at him. His curls are slightly longer than when summer started, curling around his ears and resting just above his brows. He’s got a sweatshirt on, dark green and oversized, and his teeth sink into his bottom lip the longer you take to look away.
“You can head back,” you say eventually, flicking ash to the ground at your feet. “I promise to be good and go straight to bed.”
It’s not meant to be anything, merely an assurance. But there’s this way Luke reacts to it, how his fingers stop tapping in favor of clenching his first, how he breathes deeper for a few breaths, how he swallows around nothing, that ignites something under your skin. Makes you want to push that little bit further.
“You really need to stop coming out after curfew,” he mumbles in the end, tucking his hands into the front pocket of his sweater. It’s soft and a little warm and you wonder if it’s the humidity or Luke himself that’s responsible. “I don’t want to get you in trouble.”
“You’re sweet, Castellan,” you crush the butt of your cigarette out, brushing past him to start the trek back to your cabin. “It’s kind of adorable.”
You hear him suck in a breath. You don’t hear his footsteps directly behind you as you walk through the foliage. You kind of wish you’d turned around to see the blush rise on his cheeks.
Maybe you will next time.
*
Next time doesn’t come for weeks. It gives you space to observe Luke now, when he’s being pulled in fewer directions, when there’s lower expectations. You learn that neither of those things exist where Luke is concerned; that he has this inability to not be helpful, to not put himself forward when no one else will. He somehow takes up more responsibilities as fall gets underway, smiling wide when you know you’d be stretched thin.
It’s admirable, to a point, and you want to know how he does it.
A few years ago, you convinced yourself Luke was only on when the sun shone brightest. Watching him demonstrate a throw to a young Athena kid, you think he might be the sun itself.
“Nice arm,” is what you greet him with when the little girl runs off, ball in hand. He pauses his hands where they rest on the fabric of his pants, still slightly bent at the knees from helping and lips parted as he glances up at you. “She seemed happy.”
“She just needed some help with the technique.”
He shrugs and stands to actually face you.
Mid-afternoon at camp has never really sat well with you. Always slower, sun burning and campers left to fill their own time before dinner. You’ve never really known what to do with it; Luke squints at the grounds before you as if he’s searching for who needs him next.
“Do you ever take a break?” Is what you say when the silence drags on for too long.
Luke blinks, lips parting. A group of Hephaestus kids laugh from down by the lake. You wait.
“I go to bed at midnight.”
“And what time do you wake up?” You kick at the grass below your feet, taking in how Luke stumbles for an answer, brown eyes darting each way as if it’ll fall from the sky.
“The apollo kids really love watching the sunrise,” he chokes out in the end, digging his hands into his pockets. You wonder if he thinks it makes his nerves less obvious. “It’s a really nice sunrise.”
“Come watch it with me tomorrow.”
You say it partly for the reaction itself. That same quick breath Luke takes each time you say something that shocks him, the red tint to his cheeks, the tip of his nose, the harsh movement of his adams’ apple. You kind of also really want to see how Luke Castellan changes between day and night - if it’s a version of him you just haven’t read yet.
You don’t mention that you’ll have to force yourself out of bed, unused to early rising.
He nods, three quick nods like he thinks you’ll take it back if he’s not enthusiastic enough.
You smile then. “I’ll see you later, Luke.”
*
He meets you where he usually does, further north than anyone tends to go at any hour, let alone this early. There’s less hesitation to his steps than a few nights ago, your invitation dangling between you both something like a promise.
“I’m not gonna bite,” you say when he stops just short of the rock you’ve claimed. You glance over at where he’s just feet away, bright orange camp tee peeking out from his grey hoodie. “It’s too early for that.”
“Oh.”
There’s some shuffling before Luke is perching himself on the stone next to you. He’s close enough to touch from here, the makeshift seat just barely big enough for two people to share, and you take in how he tucks his hands into his pockets, makes himself take up as little room as possible.
Outside of his swordsmanship, you’ve never seen Luke take up much space at all.
“This is nice,” he says eventually, the sun starting to peer over the lake.
There’s something almost beautiful about what the sunrise does for him, you realise. Neither of you have moved, Luke’s gaze still locked on the horizon, but you’ve transferred your attention to him. You’ve seen the lake enough times. You’ve never seen Luke Castellan’s chest rising and falling with each steady breath, or the way his eyes turn a little gold when the sun hits them just right. How he relaxes in the autumn chill.
“You’re really pretty, Luke.”
It slips past your lips before it fully forms in your mind. His head snaps to the side, cheeks flushing and lips parted. You hadn’t meant to say it, too caught up in the slow start to the morning, but it’s out there and you don’t want to take it back.
“Such a pretty boy,” you mutter, shaking your head.
“I-“ Luke starts, before clearing his throat. You see his hands twitch in his pockets. “What?”
You twist on the rock underneath you, lifting your legs so they’re crossed, knees brushing the edge of Luke’s thigh. His eyes drop at the movement.
This should feel weird at camp. You’d fallen into the habit of flirting back in Boston, something to fill the gaps and score you a cigarette when you really needed help to get them. Never like this though - like the moment was delicate and its shattering was solely in your hands.
The ability to shatter Luke Castellan, Camp Half-Blood’s golden boy, rests on your shoulders in an early sunrise.
When his breath hitches as you push yourself closer, you think you’d like to watch him shatter in the sunlight.
Pretty doesn’t even come close when it happens.

do you have anything on syntax? i'm currently in the middle of writing a story that uses old and modern magic, and i want to emphasize the differences in syntax. thanks 🫶
Writing Notes: Syntax

Syntax - the study of sentence structure.
In spoken and written language, syntax refers to the set of rules that determines the arrangement of words in a sentence.
Along with diction, it is one of the key ways writers convey meaning in a text.
Comes from the Ancient Greek for “coordination” or “ordering together.”
Syntax is the part of grammar that pertains to a speaker’s knowledge of sentences and their structures.
Any speaker of any human language can produce and understand an infinite number of possible sentences.
Thus, we can’t possibly have a mental dictionary of all the possible sentences.
Rather, we have the rules for forming sentences stored in our brains.
Essential Rules of Syntax in the English Language
The rules of syntax can be quite complex and vary greatly by language (as well as by time period and place). Depending on the language you are speaking or writing in, these rules might be very restrictive, or quite flexible.
There are 4 baseline rules when it comes to English syntax:
A complete sentence requires a subject and a verb and expresses a complete thought. This is also called an independent clause. A sentence without a subject and a verb is considered a fragment.
Separate ideas generally require separate sentences. A sentence containing multiple independent clauses that are improperly joined is considered a run-on sentence.
English word order follows the subject-verb-object sequence. (It’s usually the same in French and Spanish.)
A dependent clause contains a subject and a verb—but it doesn’t express a complete thought.
The Rules of Syntax. Combine words into phrases & phrases into sentences.
They specify the correct word order for a language. [Example: English is a Subject-Verb-Object (SVO) language. ✓ "The President nominated a new Supreme Court justice." ✗ "President the new Supreme justice Court a nominated."
They also describe the relationship between the meaning of a group of words and the arrangement of the words. [Example: "I mean what I say" vs. "I say what I mean"]
The rules of syntax also specify the grammatical relations of a sentence, such as the subject and the direct object. [Example: "Your dog chased my cat" vs. "My cat chased your dog"]
Syntax rules specify constraints on sentences based on the verb of the sentence. ["Zack tries to be a gentleman" ✗ "Zack tries Robert to be a gentleman"]
Syntax rules also tell us how words form groups and are hierarchically ordered in a sentence. [Example: “The captain ordered the old men and women of the ship”]
This sentence has 2 possible meanings:
The captain ordered the old men and the old women of the ship.
The captain ordered the old men and the women of any age of the ship.
The meanings depend on how the words in the sentence are grouped (specifically, to which words is the adjective ‘old’ applied?):
The captain ordered the [old (men and women)] of the ship
The captain ordered the [old men] and [women] of the ship
These groupings can be shown hierarchically in a tree:
These trees reveal the structural ambiguity in the phrase “old men and women”. Each structure corresponds to a different meaning.
Structurally ambiguous sentences can often be humorous:
Catcher: “Watch out for this guy, he’s a great fastball hitter.”
Pitcher: “No problem. There’s no way I’ve got a great fastball.”
UG Principles and Parameters. Universal Grammar (UG) provides the basic design for all languages, and each language has its own parameters, or variations on the basic plan.
All languages have structures that conform to X-bar schema*
All phrases consist of specifiers, heads, and complements
All sentences are headed by T**
All languages seem to have movement rules
However, languages have different word orders within phrases and sentences, so heads and complements may be present in different orders across languages
*The internal structure of phrasal categories can be captured using the x-bar schema:
**All sentences contain information about tense—when a certain event or state of affairs occurred, so we can say that Tense is the head of a sentence. So sentences are TPs, with T representing tense markers and modals:
Sign Language Syntax. The syntax of sign languages also follow the principles of UG and has:
Auxiliaries
Transformations such as topicalization, which moves the direct object to the beginning of a sentence for emphasis, and wh movement
Constraints on transformations
That UG is present in signed languages and spoken languages shows that the human brain is designed to learn language, not just speech.
Ways to Use Syntax in Literature
Besides being critical to conveying literal sense, syntax is also one of the key tools writers use to express meaning in a variety of ways. Syntax can help writers:
Produce rhetorical and aesthetic effects. By varying the syntax of their sentences, writers are able to produce different rhetorical and aesthetic effects. How a writer manipulates the syntax of their sentences is an important element of writing style.
Control pace and mood. Manipulating syntax is one of the ways writers control the pace and mood of their prose. For example, the writer Ernest Hemingway is known for his short, declarative sentences, which were well-suited to his terse, clear style of writing. These give his prose a forceful, direct quality.
Create atmosphere. By contrast, Hemingway’s fellow story writer and novelist William Faulkner is famous (or infamous) for his meandering, paragraph-long sentences, which often mimic the ruminative thinking of his characters. These sentences, which often ignore the standard rules of punctuation and grammar, help create an atmosphere as much as they convey information.
That said, all writers vary their sentence structure from time to time. Using a variety of sentences is one of the key ways writers engage and maintain their readers’ interest.
Sentence Types in the English Language
The English language is extraordinarily flexible when it comes to building sentences. At the same time, all sentences in English fall into 4 distinct types:
Simple sentences. Consist of a single, independent clause. For example: “The girl hit the ball.”
Compound sentences. Consist of two or more independent clauses joined by a coordinating conjunction. The coordinating conjunctions are “but,” “or,” and “so.” For example: “The girl hit the ball, and the ball flew out of the park.”
Complex sentences. Consist of an independent clause and one or more dependent clauses joined by a subordinating conjunction. Some subordinating conjunctions are “although,” “because,” “so,” “that,” and “until.” For example: “When the girl hit the ball, the fans cheered.”
Compound-complex sentences. Consist of multiple independent clauses as well as at least one dependent clause. For example: “When the girl hit the ball, the fans cheered, and the ball flew out of the park.”
Syntax Examples in Literature
To get a sense of some of the ways writers use syntax to express meaning, it’s worthwhile examining a few famous examples from literature.
Moby Dick, by Herman Melville (1851). Melville begins with this famous line: “Call me Ishmael.” This first line—one of the most famous in literature—is short and direct. The sentences that follow, though, are significantly more sophisticated. In the fourth sentence, Melville uses a number of dependent clauses (“Whenever I find myself growing grim about the mouth,” “Whenever it is a damp, drizzly November in my soul,” and so on) to create a sense of anticipation.
Anna Karenina, by Leo Tolstoy (1877). Tolstoy’s novel begins: “Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.” This is actually two simple sentences joined by a semi-colon. Tolstoy could easily have just written them as separate sentences, but by joining them into one sentence he shows that these two thoughts are related and balanced.

TONIGHT- Lunar Eclipse in Virgo Horoscope - Rising Sign Edition
♈ Aries Rising
You’ve pushed yourself past the point of exhaustion before, convincing yourself that if you just kept moving, you would outrun your own restlessness. But this eclipse in your 6th house wants you to confront the way you treat your body, your routines, your mental patterns.
Have you been moving with purpose, or just moving to feel less lost? Have your daily habits been nourishing you, or draining the life from you? Virgo demands precision, not perfection, a fine-tuning of how you live, how you show up for yourself, and how you honor your limits.
Your body is speaking louder than your mind tonight. Are you listening?
Release: Overworking as a distraction. The guilt of resting. The belief that you must always be in motion to be worthy. Reclaim: Your rhythm. Your right to slow down. The power of intentional action, rather than constant movement.
♉ Taurus Rising
You’ve spent so long protecting your heart, building walls of practicality, setting unspoken conditions for love and joy. This eclipse in your 5th house shakes that foundation, making you question: Are you truly allowing yourself to love and create freely, or only within safe parameters?
Virgo’s meticulous gaze picks apart your expectations of happiness, the unconscious rules you’ve placed on pleasure. Love does not always arrive in a form that is familiar. Joy is not something to be micromanaged. This is a call to soften, to risk, to let yourself feel fully, even when it terrifies you.
Your heart is aching for something real, something messy, something alive. Let it in.
Release: The need to control love. The fear of vulnerability. The belief that joy must be earned. Reclaim: The freedom to love boldly. Your right to create without judgment. The rawness of feeling without fear.
♊ Gemini Rising
There are ghosts in your walls, the kind you don’t see but feel, the kind that whisper in the quiet moments between thoughts. This eclipse in your 4th house is a reckoning with the past, with the foundations you’ve built your sense of safety upon.
Are you carrying burdens that were never yours to hold? Are you still bound to stories of who you were supposed to be? This is a moment of deep, ancestral clearing. Not all roots deserve to keep you tethered.
It is time to release what weighs you down, to let go of inherited pain, to build a sense of home that belongs entirely to you.
Release: Unfinished grief. The need to carry family burdens. The belief that you must stay small to stay safe. Reclaim: Your space. Your right to redefine home. The power of severing ties that no longer serve your growth.
♋ Cancer Rising
Your words have been calculated, careful, or perhaps withheld entirely. This eclipse in your 3rd house is a force of truth, shaking the foundation of how you think, how you communicate, and what you’ve left unsaid.
There are conversations you’ve avoided, emotions you’ve swallowed, but silence is no longer a refuge. Tonight, your mind is restless, your voice aching to be heard. What have you been too afraid to say? What stories need to be rewritten?
Let the words spill. They will set you free.
Release: The fear of speaking your truth. The weight of unspoken words. The need for external validation. Reclaim: Your voice. The power of honesty. The ability to communicate from a place of self-trust.
♌ Leo Rising
Your worth has been measured in currency, whether literal or metaphorical. This eclipse in your 2nd house asks: Have you been attaching your value to what you produce, what you own, what others see in you?
Something must fall away, an outdated belief, a financial cycle, a way of defining yourself by external means. You are enough without the proof, without the excess, without the validation. Let the world take what it must, what remains is your truth.
Release: The belief that security must come from outside of you. The fear of loss. The idea that worth is transactional. Reclaim: Your inner stability. The freedom to exist without proving yourself. A new definition of abundance.
♍ Virgo Rising
You are standing at a crossroads with yourself. This 1st house eclipse is a mirror, a confrontation, an undoing. You’ve tried to perfect yourself, to mold your identity into something refined, careful, right. But who are you outside of the expectations, the labels, the curated version of yourself?
Something in you has reached its limit. A mask must slip. A piece of your identity must be reclaimed, even if it disrupts the balance you’ve worked so hard to maintain. Let it break. Let yourself breathe.
Release: The version of yourself that exists for others. The need for constant self-improvement. The fear of imperfection. Reclaim: Your raw authenticity. The courage to exist unapologetically. The power of being without fixing.
♎ Libra Rising
This eclipse pulls you inward, deep into the caverns of your subconscious. The 12th house is where endings happen in silence, where past versions of you dissolve, where hidden truths rise to the surface when you least expect them.
There is something here you’ve been avoiding, a grief, a habit, a self-sabotaging cycle that lingers beneath your awareness. The distractions that once numbed you may no longer work. You can’t outrun your own shadow; this eclipse is proof of that.
But what if facing the darkness is the only way through? What if surrendering to it is the key to your freedom?
Release: The need to suppress pain. The fear of solitude. The patterns that keep you asleep to yourself. Reclaim: Your intuition. The strength found in stillness. The clarity that comes when you stop resisting.
♏ Scorpio Rising
You once had a vision for yourself, a clear path, a defined goal. But what happens when that vision no longer fits? When the future you imagined feels foreign, when the communities you once felt aligned with no longer feel like home?
This eclipse in your 11th house brings a reckoning to your dreams, your hopes, your sense of belonging. Some people and places cannot follow you where you’re going. Some aspirations were built on an old version of you.
Let go of the timelines, the rigid expectations. Let the unknown shape itself without interference. Your purpose is evolving—make space for it to unfold.
Release: Outdated dreams. Friendships that no longer nourish you. The pressure to follow a predetermined path. Reclaim: The courage to embrace uncertainty. A future that feels authentic. The freedom to change direction.
♐ Sagittarius Rising
Your world is shifting under the weight of something bigger than you. The 10th house rules career, reputation, legacy, and this eclipse shakes the structures you’ve built. Are you truly aligned with your path, or have you been walking it out of obligation?
There may be a career ending, a redirection, or a deep realization about what success actually means to you. You are shedding a role that no longer fits, yet clinging to it will only prolong the inevitable.
This eclipse asks: Who are you beyond the title? Beyond the expectations? When all else fades, what remains?
Release: The fear of professional failure. The belief that your worth is tied to external achievement. Reclaim: A path that excites you. A career that aligns with your soul. The right to redefine success.
♑ Capricorn Rising
Your beliefs are being tested. This 9th house eclipse exposes the cracks in your philosophies, ideals, and the way you make sense of the world. Some truths you once held close now feel distant, irrelevant. The places, people, and perspectives that once felt like home may no longer resonate.
Are you resisting growth because it feels like a betrayal of your past? Or are you brave enough to step into a wider, wilder understanding of yourself?
A door is opening. It leads somewhere unfamiliar, maybe even uncomfortable. But staying where you are would be the real loss.
Release: Outdated belief systems. Fear of leaving your comfort zone. The need for certainty. Reclaim: The courage to seek new wisdom. The freedom to change your mind. A sense of purpose beyond what you’ve known.
♒ Aquarius Rising
The 8th house is where things end and begin again. This eclipse drags you into the depths of your own transformation, forcing you to release something that no longer serves you, a fear, an attachment, a version of yourself that existed only in survival mode.
There is something unfinished here, something you’ve avoided grieving. But grief is not just for loss, it is also for the parts of yourself you are ready to outgrow. Let the past decompose. You are not meant to stay in the decay, you are meant to rise from it.
Release: Emotional baggage. Toxic attachments. The belief that transformation must be painful. Reclaim: Your power. A sense of inner renewal. The ability to let go without guilt.
♓ Pisces Rising
Love is a mirror, and right now, you can’t look away. This eclipse in your 7th house brings stark clarity to your relationships, where they thrive, where they suffocate, where they ask for more than you can give.
A dynamic is shifting, perhaps through endings, revelations, or deeper levels of intimacy. How have you been showing up in love? How have you been holding yourself back? Virgo demands honesty, and this eclipse is showing you the places where you have settled, over-sacrificed, or built walls too high for anyone to climb.
The reflection may be uncomfortable, but within it lies the truth: you deserve the kind of love that nourishes, not depletes.
Release: Relationship patterns that drain you. The fear of being seen fully. The need to overcompromise. Reclaim: Love that meets you where you are. The power to set boundaries. A connection built on truth, not illusion.

I was somewhat surprised to see that Eureka's inspirations didn't list any World of Darkness or Chronicles of Darkness games - they're pretty significant games to ttrpgs as a whole, especially within the genre of urban fantasy horror. Is there any reason why they aren't listed?
Well, we just weren’t really inspired by them.
Sure, they’re hugely influential, but I kinda consider them influential in the same way that D&D5e is influential, influencing people to resist the very artform of TTRPGs. In fact the World of Darkness games are one of the major origin points of the whole “the game says it’s about X and the players want X, but absolutely nothing about the RAW(Rules-As-Written) produces X, so just ignore the RAW.” as well as those God-awful “narrativist/gamist/simulationist” parameters everyone still has to put up with like 20 years later.
As far as urban fantasy goes, yeah, technically, I guess, but that isn’t really what I think of when I think of “urban fantasy.” World of Darkness really has more in common with, like, (sign-of-the-cross) Harry Potter than Eureka in that it’s not really about a completely separate world from our own that just exists beside with the “normal” world rather than being a part of it and I, personally, just hate that kind of setting anyway.
I also personally think that Eureka does vampires way better and more meaningfully than Vampire: The Masquerade. Vampire: The Masquerade claims to be all about the angst of losing one’s humanity to vampirism but really, RAW, it is just about superpowered goths arguing and fighting with each other in their secret lairs that hardly interact with humanity except eating them. You can apply angst to that quite easily but it isn't actually what the game is about or engages with textually.
Eureka’s vampires exist within the society they drain, experiencing first-hand and textually exploring what it’s like to be a fucking parasite who can’t live off anything but the pain and suffering of one’s neighbors. And maybe this doesn’t make them inhuman.

This seems to be a minority opinion, but I think Hal Jordan becoming Parallax (for real, not because he was possessed by a "fear demon" or whatever dumb bullshit Geoff Johns came up with to hand-wave it away) and then sacrificing himself in a demonstrative way in FINAL NIGHT was, in the main, a pretty logical and organic development for the character.
In THE COMIC BOOK HEROES, Jacobs and Jones (and yes, I know about Jones, don't @ me) describe Hal Jordan as the ultimate "organization man," and that's stuck with me because I think it identifies an important feature of the character. Hal first appeared in 1959, but he was the quintessential Kennedy-era hero, a charismatic individualist who drew strength from the conviction that he was part of a just liberal order in a rational, knowable universe.

This was true even in his early appearances, when he had a very limited awareness of the Green Lantern Corps and no idea who they were working for (which is something that has, regrettably, been retconned from latter retellings, although it was an important part of the earliest issues of the series). What made Hal so successful as a Green Lantern was not that he was especially clever, imaginative, or even strong-willed — it was that he respected the parameters of the role, even when no one was looking, and worked creatively within the rules by which he was bound. If he were more intellectual, he would have been a great lawyer.

The side effect of those tendencies was that, like many liberals, Hal could not cope gracefully with challenges to his world view, and his response to such challenges was authoritarianism. Denny O'Neil called Hal "a crypto-fascist," and that was evident in the 'Hard-Traveling Heroes" stories with Ollie, where Hal faced a series of crises challenging his deeply held presumption that laws and institutions are basically good. His reaction to those crises was panic and rage — lashing out in an attempt to reestablish his own rules of moral order through force, as authoritarians do.

That was the driving force of his disintegration in "Emerald Twilight," where his reaction to being told that he couldn't just use his power to forcibly return things to the way he thinks they should be was an explosion of power-hungry rage. That escalated more quickly than I think felt credible, especially in Hal's sudden willingness to kill his own comrades, but the gist was consistent with his previous trajectory, as was his goal in ZERO HOUR, to go back to the Dawn of Time and rewrite the rules as he thought they should be.

What gave ZERO HOUR's climax its (admittedly very limited) emotional weight was that Hal still saw himself as a right-minded reformer who was still ultimately serving the cause of moral order. That I think could have been Hal's most significant legacy as a character: an actual cautionary tale, not confined to an Elseworlds Annual or Imaginary Story, about someone who used to be a hero until he went too far. (Often, in modern Elseworlds-type AUs, that narrative centers on Superman, but Hal was, and remains, a more credible choice because it didn't require making him into anything he wasn't already.)

The finale of FINAL NIGHT then gave Hal a grandstanding opportunity for redemption: He sacrificed his life and his remaining power to destroy the Sun-Eater and save the world one more time. Probably the most interesting aspect of that story was that some of his former comrades — notably Batman — were not sold, recognizing that it was really just Hal continuing along the same path that had been his moral downfall in the first place, and it didn't make up for the things he'd done or the people he'd killed.

I can see how for a Silver Age Green Lantern fan, that was something of a bitter pill, but I *don't* think there was a way back for Hal from being Parallax, and so ending on an ambivalent note was most appropriate. If it had been up to me, they would have left it there.
