The Japanese word "itadakimasu" is the politely humble form of the verb "to receive"; so, in a literal way, it means: "I humbly receive." People who speak Japanese say it right before starting to eat.

But "I humbly receive" sounds kinda weird, so in my tales only fictional characters whose core personality includes politeness say it. Everyone else simply say: "Thanks for the food!!" or "Thank you for the food."
