This gorgeous book—which features both contemporary and archival photos of architecture, interiors, style elements, and celebrities—stunningly reveals the vibrant aesthetics of the Côte d’Azur, the Italian Riviera, and the Amalfi Coast. Following the fabled coastline as it unfolds from St.Tropez to Capri, it offers a glimpse of life in some of Europe’s most glamorous locations: St. Tropez, where Bardot posed for Picasso; Cannes, where Hollywood beauties have paraded their charms; Positano, where Jackie held court with Aristotle Onassis; and Capri, the playground of Sophia Loren and a host of others. Alongside images of the people, places, and landmarks that have come to define the Riviera,  contemporary photos of architecture and interiors provide rich evidence of its enduring appeal.

I wanna make a post about the Lake retreat scenes on Naboo because they were filmed in Italy (pretty close to the French border iirc) and I'm feral over them just for the fact that it's all SO FAMILIAR. It's all Mediterranean plants and trees and stones and architecture (and green screens lmao). I'm not from right next to the border but I'm from Southern France and if I go run in a field it's those exact same weeds and flowers! If I go in a park it's those exact trees! If I look at a mountain it's the same rock face!! It's the same shades of plants and wall paint and the same giant stone flower beds and I'm just in love with those like three scenes just for that reason. It incidentally takes me right out of the story for a while because obviously it looks nothing like an alien planet to me. It's just a sappy and corny feeling but idk it makes so very happy seeing a plane tree in a movie without immediately hearing La Vie En Rose or another insufferable song play over the scene.

Wonderful Things That May or May Not Be Wonderful!!! Ah, Disney's Riviera Resort. The Most Magical Place on Earth's take on the French and Italian Riviera is gray on the outside but super elegant on the inside. Paintings of Disney characters and lands done in the inspired local style line the walls. The lounge is built as a dark wood library filled with European memorabilia.  The broader décor is a fusion of modern and classic architecture with sounds of accordions and European covers echoing through the halls. Might sound kitschy but it doesn't feel like it. On the practical side, you have a very enjoyable counter service location (plus a coffee counter, pool bar, and upscale rooftop restaurant), gondola access to Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios, a white sand beach, three pools, bocce greens and much more. If this is sounding like a sales pitch, it's not. Staying here costs an arm, a leg, and a spare kidney. But if you are in the area (or staying at the nearby Caribbean Beach Resort), a visit is certainly on the Wonderful Things recommendation list...and some parmesan garlic fries.
