Note: First head canon type thing I am putting on here (yay!). This is something I have thought a lot just myself in my lonesome so Id thought Id share it here! If you have any other ideas of what certain characters would listen to I would love to hear!

Nina

-> I think we as a fandom have collectively decided that Nina would 100% be a swiftie (and I agree). Her favorite album would be either Speak Now or Folklore, however, her fav song would probs be "London Boy" off of the Lover album though (for obvious reasons)

-> I can see her listening to some other softer artists like beabadobee, Clairo, and Boygenius (shes a softie at heart what can I say)

-> "All American Bitch" by Olivia Rodrigo is her confidence booster song for sure

-> Her and Amber have 2000-2010's pop music dance parties in their room together (which make annoy some of the housemates from them jumping around and dancing; also get in trouble with Victor about it but its worth it to them)

->Ok I need you guys to HEAR ME OUT with this one, but...Nina definitely is a little (just a little bit) of a theatre kid. I mean let's be real, she wrote an entire play for the school AND performed in it,,,my girl def is a little bit of a theatre girl. So with that being said, she listens to some show tunes from musicals (mostly Waitress and Mamma Mia)

Amber

-> She would so be a Y2k pop listening type of girl

-> Marina and the Diamonds. IDK IT JUST MAKES SO MUCH SENSE TO ME I CANNOT EXPLAIN. Some of her songs just give that "it girl" energy and if there is an "it girl" of the Anubis house its miss Amber Millington. "Bubblegum Bitch" is blasted in her car with the top down (because she def has a convertible and its pink)

-> Ariana Grande stan. Probably had a stroke when Ariana came out with a makeup line and bought ALL OF IT.

Fabian

-> Fabian def listens to alternative music old and new.

Sparkstember Day 6: Big Beat (Big Boy)

Wooohoooo, Big Beat! Our favourite little "questionable lyrics" album. Anyway, this one's lots of fun. Full of unrefutable bangers and hard rocking that's not like anything else that Sparks have done for the most part (and it's still very Sparks despite that). But yeah, this is a very strange era for them that I find pretty charming actually, and I think that for the full Big Beat experience one must watch the Capitol Theatre concert from this era (funnily, my favourite bit of it isn't even a song from this album... it's Equator, and, well, this is the exact type of theatricality that I'm a really big fan of, haha)

While I undoubtedly DO like this album, there must also be a reason I don't revisit it all that often. And I think, well, is it just just me or are lots of songs here just kind of... way too simple? Musically speaking (too), and while I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to this type of music that's much more on the rock than pop side of things, and my first impression here was very positive, well, afterwards... I either forgot about it altogether or often had a feeling of "can we move on now" when songs from this album came on shuffle and such. Even listening to this album today I had lots of those moments, like it's not that I don't like these songs... I guess they're just less engaging than I'm used to from Sparks (cause I don't want to call them boring, I think it's a bit of a different thing...).

Also interesting, because despite all this, the 21×21 Big Beat concert is actually a pretty big fav of mine. So I guess my thesis for today is that it's the type of album that works better live maybe!

Favourite songs (and other highlights):

Big Boy: just a good opener and fun song all around, and here's a fun fact about it: about a half of this song's length is just its title being said. Which means that the song Big Boy consists of 50% pure Big Boy

I Want To Be Like Everybody Else: sadly, a bit of a victim of Spotify Shuffle really wanting me to listen to it over and over and it getting a bit old fast

I Bought The Mississippi River: my fav here by far and also the most interesting and memorable, I really like the call & response part, and the guitar solos, the whole atmosphere is great, reminds me a little bit of High C even now that I think about it... Not sure though, I JUST thought about this

Confusion: one of the only songs here that I could see as part of some other album from around this time without it sticking out too much. Makes sense if we keep its origins in mind...

Screwed Up: it's fun to imagine sometimes that the 60s just happened

I Like Girls: COME ON, GIIIIIIRLS!!!

Tearing The Place Apart + Looks Aren't Everything: I love all the bonus tracks here but these two especially are a nice (and unexpected) return to the Indiscreet style which I really love

okay so like. i’m so very down bad for my best friend. like it’s BAD. as in i’ve never felt this strongly towards someone EVER (unless it’s platonic, because i love my (other, not the one i’m in love w) best friend sm she puts up w my shit and i love her) and it’s like. ever since i came out as a lesbian the yearning goes CRAZY!!! never knew it would be this. intense. but i confessed to them back in feb (we were each other’s valentines (i got so many things for them,, like 15 ish. they wrote me a long note which i almost cried at) would talk for hours about pointless things, talked about getting a garden together and naming stars (and galaxies) after the other and them telling me that one day they’ll spoil me, and we’re basically attached the hip) but like. they didn’t rlly have any time for me (they had theatre and it took up a lot of their time, and my love language is quality time. aka: not a good mix!) and even tho we’re back to more than friends less than lovers my brain has NOT calmed down. at all. but at least i have los camp! to keep me (somewhat) sane 😚 but like.. any advice or something .. i need my brain to stop thinking abt them because i need a fucking. lobotomy or something . and i’m like in my healing era so im finally being like nuh uh im doing what i want instead of doing what other people want all the fucking time!!!! but how’s ur day! hope its going well! but. on another note. if u checked out los camp! how’d you like it?? any fav songs? :D i love recruiting new listeners

Disney Channel Original Movie Ranking! #1: High School Musical

Again, I feel like I’m against the grain when I put this one above HSM 2, because the sequel is arguably bigger and better in most ways.

But HSM 2, as the movie is now, came from the overwhelming success of THIS movie. And it’s THIS movie that pulled me back into watching DCOMs at all.

I’m just gonna list some things that I like in this movie compared to its sequel

- It’s not aware of its hype yet so I feel it took more risks and was more genuine and humble of a movie

- Troy and Gabriella both had parallel arcs in the movie which brought them together in the first place

- it actually takes place in the high school (hence high school musical)

- There’s a real lesson and moral in the movie that feels more tangible than in the sequel.

- It was a bit more emotional and serious (just a bit)

- you get more of Troy and Gabriella’s amazing chemistry

-it’s an amazing callback to Grease with being almost nothing like Grease

And that’s all I can think of just off the top of my head. This movie just means a lot to me especially when in high school I did stage crew and was in the choir so I worked a lot with the theatre dept. It brings me back to a really special time in my life where I really did what I loved. Before college, jobs, getting married, etc. When all you were worried about was if you wanted to play basketball or sing in the school musical.

Plus the songs are still good in this one. Yes the HSM songs overall are much better, but that doesn’t mean the songs in this one are bad. Stick to the Status Quo is undoubtedly my fav.

As far as story goes, you just get sucked into everything so easily. I really can’t think of a flaw that’s justifiable enough to being this movie down from its #1 spot, at least in my eyes. Troy learns that it’s okay to be different and Gabriella learns to face her fears. Both are changed people for the better and was necessary for them to be together. You gotta love it.

I could talk all day about this movie but honestly I am BEYOND ready to move onto my next ranking! This DCOM list has literally been 2.5 years into the making and it’s the reason this blog even exists. It’s been an incredible journey that I never want to do again. So I’m very happy about that.

Luckily I already watched and ranked everything for my next series so this won’t take long :) See you soon!!

though he may prefer light novels over anime most times

he will totally sit down at watch the new season of an anime you two enjoy together

which bmc scenes make you the softest bc for me it's gotta be most of the stagedorks scenes ESPECIALLY a guy that i'd kinda be into. mostly bc of christine cause her and michael are my favs (i love them all sm though) but also bc of jeremy because he is a close second to both of them. also vimh but vimh makes me cry a lot although nowadays i can hardly watch one scene without at the very least tearing up. anyways yeah which ones make you soft

i simply rewatched bmc and took notes for this and really got off track at points in the sense of sticking to What Makes You Softest but that’s how it goes babey

Which are your all time favourite stories / characters and why??

You are so sweet to send me this! I write about 6 paragraphs in my head to the last ask you sent every day about my OC's and then when I sit down to actually write it at my laptop I... don't. So this one I will answer right away!

How do I choose between all my fictional children . . . I suppose the overarching umbrella I love the most would be fantasy! Having wings or magical powers, fairy dimensions or enchanted castles -- we don't have those reality, so it's lovely to escape to! One reason I love CGI's development is that every day it gets more and more advanced and we really feel like we're there!

I grew up immersed in a "nerdy/geeky" world because of my dad. His whole house is mar.vel, d.c, star tr.ek and star war.s, with comics everywhere and lots of movie statues! (now he's in an airplane phase... there's no space in this house...) Was I brainwashed from an early age? It's funny because while people are very die hard "THIS company, ride or die, I hate the competition" my dad loves them all, so I grew up in a very neutral household. I love D.C. and M.arvel, Star Tr.ek and Star Wa.rs and... even some really aged tv shows like The Flas.h from the 80's or Won.der Woman with Lynda Carter because they are fun, goofy and contain the "pure heart" aspect of heroines and heroes (without all the angst of these modern dramas). Was I brainwashed from an early age?

The first Harr.y Potter movie came out when I was a child and I devoured the series as I grew and more books/movies were released. Although it certainly has its problems (most of which I feel like come with J.K.'s "after facts") I learned so much from the characters and world. It's corny... but sometimes I had those books when I had no one else. They inspired me to become a writer and an actress. I remember thinking: how can I escape into these places like a Triwiz.ard Tourn.ament? Or a quiddi.tch game? I'd have to be an actress and get on set! There's still FB.AWTFT movies coming out... my time to shine is AT HAND . . . I also admire Emma SO MUCH and really look up to her as a person and an actress. The third movie and third book are my favorite. The spine of POA is completely broken and a whole chunk of the book comes out.

I am a huge Disn.ey fan as a side branch of my love for fantasy. Everyone in my life knows this, but as I'm older now and more educated I've learned to take all the movies with a grain of salt, both past and present (Ok, but 2015 Ci.nderella might be the darn perfect exception). The Little Mermaid is my favorite (hence why I use her as my mun icons!) But I mean, she was sixteen and if she knew how to write why didn't she read the fine print in that contract?!

The Little Mermaid was huge for me. I knew all the words to the songs right away. I think it really inspired my love of fantasy (my fav creatures being mermaids and fairies). I think it also spawned my love of redhead characters like MJ Wat.son, Firestar, Jean Gr.ey, Kim Po.ssible, Natash.a Romanov and Thumbelina! Ariel shows how following your heart is a good thing, even if it's scary and takes you away from your comfort zone and safe people. Love can cross worlds so that a mermaid and human can be together! ROMANTIC AS HELL.

Last but not least I must absolutely give a shout out to the REAL world by marking the Austen Era. Granted her works are non-fiction, but they take place in our world in a historic time of lovely flower printed dresses and ribbons! (I'm actually reading an Austen-esque book right now!) I definitely inherited my romantic 18th century whimsy from my mother (who was SEATHING that The Tenant Of Wilford Hall did not result in happy matrimony). Also in historical fiction: Doctor Zhivago! It is my favorite book and I am a SUCKER for the Keira adaptation for Masterpiece Theatre.

To sum up, I love tall dark handsome broody boys mostly with brown eyes and shaggy hair (with a few exceptions), but I love strong female characters the most. Those like Gwe.n Stacy, Lizzie Benn.et, Sab.rina Spell.man or Elizabeth Swan.n who adapt, grow and stay true to themselves. Soft glitter heart girls like Sail.or Moon, Tohru H.onda and Catherine Mo.rland are just as important and loved!

Childhood characters I grew up loving: the velveteen rabbit, the steadfast tin soldier, fairytale princesses and princes, chrysanthemum the mouse, the kissing hand raccoon, marshmallow the white fluffy bunny, Madeline, pooh & friends and peter rabbit.

Hercules is Bursting At the Seams With Potential

or, It’s Roger Bart’s World and We’re Just Living In It

Short Version: Right now it’s good but not great HOWEVER with some work this could be really spectacular

Long Version:

The production of Hercules presented by Public Works did exactly what it was meant to do. It brought in crowds, put the entirety of the Public Works community (all 200 of them) onstage and showed producers this is a viable project worth pursuing, be it on Broadway, a Disney park/cruise ship or simply available for licensing. 

In all, I liked it. But I didn’t love it, which was a little disappointing to be honest, especially because Hercules is my all time favorite Disney movie. But it is easily (easily!) fixable and could be amazing if they put the work into it.

I’m gonna divide this review/commentary/whatever into three parts:

1. The Good

2. The Bad

3. What I Think They Should Do Moving Forward 

So here we go. And I guess I should say there’s going to be a bunch of spoilers here, but if you’re reading this I’m assuming you’ve seen/loved the movie so you already know the plot. 

1. The Good

Every moment of this show is filled with an extraordinary amount of heart. You can tell everyone involved with this production loves the source material and wants it to soar. You can tell the entire cast is having a blast and loves being there. The material itself is full of heart because that’s exactly how it was written. The leader of Public Works made a speech at the beginning saying how Hercules is about what it means to be a hero and she’s exactly right. That message is the beating heart of the show.

The length of the show was also pretty nice. My problem with a lot of these film adaptations, Disney ones especially, is that they take a relatively short film and fill it with filler songs/moments in order to fill a 2.5 hour show. Frozen suffered from this. It didn’t need to be that long. However, Hercules was only 90 minutes with no intermission! There was little to no filler! The story, while at times a bit clunky in the beginning, doesn’t take any scenic routes to fill time. This kept the plot moving at a mostly good pace and I was never bored or looking at the song list to see how much longer we had left. I could focus completely on the cast and show without feeling like it was dragging on forever.

And the cast was so good too. Krysta Rodriguez has always been a fav of mine and I was thrilled to see her playing this role. She was fun and spunky and was in great voice. If anything, she didn’t have too much to work with. 

Jelani Alladin was FANTASTIC. He was the perfect Hercules. If producers decide to move forward with this show and take it to Broadway, Alladin better stay. He was charming and fun and funny and sang the hell out of “Go the Distance.” But what really impressed me about him was the dramatic moments and how personal and impactful they felt. There’s this great moment when Hercules talks to Zeus and Hera after becoming the hero of Thebes where he breaks down and has his wonderful moment with Phil and that whole scene was so good. He really lets you see Hercules’ insecurities at that moment and the way he was able to be subtle but still project to an outdoor audience of over a thousand was remarkable.

James Monroe Iglehart was great as Phil, as was Jeff Hiller and Nelson Chimilio as Panic and Pain respectively. 

The costumes were really cool (with one glaring exception but we’ll get to that later). I especially enjoyed Hades/the gods costumes, because they looked enough like their movie counterparts while still being unique to the show. The way they did Hades’ makeup was super cool, like they pulled him right into the real world. Likewise, the Muses had some really cool costume changes throughout and they all looked amazing. 

One of the more impressive aspects of the show was the puppetry and special effects, which felt grounded in a more Greek theatre kind of style and I thought it worked very well. The puppetry of the monsters specifically was super cool. The Hydra looked fantastic, as well as the three Titans. This production of course wasn’t given a lot of money, but much like The Lightning Thief, they worked with it. They were in these cool pieces that different actors held and when they came together they looked great. They were bright and bold and drew on older theatre techniques which I liked a lot. The special effects, especially in the latter half, were also good. How they did the Underworld was simple but effective and made a wonderful stage picture, especially the moment when Hercules saves Meg from Hades. How they made his life string turn gold looked really cool as well. 

In terms of musical numbers, what worked best was the songs we all know and love. “Go the Distance” was simply staged, which made the emotion of the song far more effective. “Zero to Hero” was a blast and took all the best parts from the movie and put them on stage. “I Won’t Say (I’m In Love)” was divine, just as I expected it to be. “A Star Is Born” was genuinely uplifting and joyous, since they brought out all 200 members of the cast and everyone was so happy to be there and it was the perfect way to end the show. 

There were 5 new songs, and while I wasn’t a fan of most of them, I really really liked “Bolts of Thunder” and thought it was a fun way to musicalize the big fight scenes with the Titans towards the end. The Muses also wore these incredible 90s girl group inspired jumpsuits that were spectacular. 

Speaking of 90s girl group Muses, there were two moments when they heavily channeled this vibe and I wish they did more of it. “Bolts of Thunder” with the jump suits and the reprise of “Gospel Truth” after “One Last Hope” where they wore these late 80s/early 90s workout video outfits. Those moments were artistically bold and really emphasized what worked in the original movie, but I’m gonna talk more about that later in part 3. 

Of course my favorite part of this production was Roger Bart. He stole the entire show. Whenever Hades is on stage he has the best lines and the funniest moments and he just has a way of making every line feel both biting and passive aggressive. He was absolutely incredible and the perfect choice for Hades. This production gave us more Hades than the original movie, but I wanted even more Hades. Bart has always been an actor near and dear to my heart (Young Frankenstein was my jam) and I was so glad to see him onstage again. 

2. The Bad

Unfortunately, a good portion of the show feels clunky, both stylistically and in content. The book was perfectly serviceable, taking a good portion of its lines from the films. But it felt too slow in the first half and too fast in the second, which was also when things got more interesting. For example, there’s a whole song about Hercules not feeling accepted at the Agora and there’s a long scene after that song but later on when Hercules defeats Hades, that takes literally 2 seconds. Likewise, the show over explains certain exposition points (and is not subtle in any way, shape or form) and doesn’t explain other things. Though really there isn’t much exposition at all, as this show assumes you’ve watched the movie dozens of times. 

That doesn’t always work well.

I went with a friend who hadn’t seen it in a while and afterwards he asked about what happened to Meg that made her sign her soul over to Hades. I knew because I’ve seen the movie so many times, but the show kind of brushes right over it. If you’ve never seen the movie before, which will definitely be the case with some people, it might be a little difficult to keep up with. 

Stylistically, this show was all over the place. 

In my opinion, Public Works presented three versions of Hercules:

1. The gospel version

2. The 90s nostalgia version

3. The Greek inspired version

I’m going to go more into this later, but these three versions would have worked if they could have seamlessly blended into each other. As of now, it’s incredibly jarring and distracting and would sometimes take me right out of the show.

For example! Hercules wore a traditional toga. Meg wore this

Yes this is Mal from Disney’s Descendants and yes Meg wore basically this but she had shorter hair and purple heel boots instead of gray. Hercules’ toga and this together looked almost absurd to be honest. 

And side note: Disney has been on a kick recently where they think pants equals feminism? Someone needs to tell Disney that women can wear dresses and still be feminist

Anyways

The choreography was pretty basic, but it’s hard to fault them this when the choreography is meant to be for a crowd of 200 people with ages varying from 5 - 80. There were a lot of step touch and wave moments. There was one really cool dance break in “Zero to Hero” that made me think about how cool some of these big production numbers could be if they got some good dancers in there. 

I wish the Muses were better. They were so low energy during “Gospel Truth,” which made the evening start off on a lower note than it should have. 

The pop culture references were really weird and out of place, mostly because of their specificity. The pop culture references in the movie are purposely vague and more “modern” references than pop culture, which makes the movie timeless. The pop culture references here might date the show in the future. There’s two that stood out specifically, one being when Hercules says “I know the Wobble!” before doing it, the other when Panic starts doing the Hercules Mulligan rap (you know the one) from Hamilton when Hades asks him if he knows Hercules. 

The rest of the new songs weren’t great either, and I’m gonna talk about each of them separately

“To Be Human” - This one definitely felt like a first draft of “Go the Distance.” Interestingly enough, I feel that an edited version of “Proud of Your Boy” from the Alladin musical (also written by Alan Menken) would have worked a lot better. 

“Uniquely Greek Town Square” - bad

“Forget About It” - I’m all for giving Meg more songs, but this was decent at best

“A Cool Day In Hell” - I desperately want Hades to have a solo, but not this. It was cheesy and felt out of place. Roger Bart sold the hell out of it, but of course he did cause he’s Roger Bart and incredible and amazing

“Uniquely Greek Tough Town” - not to be confused with “Uniquely Greek Town Square,” this song didn’t feel uniquely Greek at all and was, well, bad

“To Be Human (Reprise” - fine, I guess. Jelani Alladin made it good but the lyrics weren’t great. They rhymed “fail” with “frail.” 

3. What I Think They Should Do Moving Forward

Like I said before, this show has so much potential! I think it could be so good! This is my favorite Disney movie so I really want it to go to Broadway! If they do, there’s a couple things I think they could benefit from.

The best Disney Theatricals productions draw heavily from the culture/country the story takes place in. The Lion King, which draw heavily from Kenyan culture and reinvents the source material is the best example of this. I think drawing on Greek theatre conventions/styles would work well here, especially if Disney threw some of that good Disney money at it. I’d also like to see them lean into the Greek myth aspect of it a bit more. 

However, what also made the original Hercules movie so fun was its modern flair that felt both timeless and very 90s, which was fun. In this way I think the Muses and all the supernatural characters should draw more on this 90s flair while the mortals draw more on the Greek theatre conventions. I think with incorporating some Greek into the 90s and some 90s into the Greek, this could work really well. During “One Last Hope,” all the ensemble members wore those fun workout video outfits. I think it would have been fun if they wore togas still, but with sweatbands and leg warmers. Something like that to blend them together more. A theatrical beauty blender, if you will. 

In all honesty, I just want something bold and inspired. Give me something interesting! 

The show would also benefit from heavy edits to the newer songs and a good troupe of dancers, but that would of course happen in a possible commercial transfer. 

Lastly, as with just about anything, throw some Disney money at it! Make it shine! 

Normally I’d end this with a “Go see it!” or a “Don’t waste your time on it!” but this run is already sold out and lottery winners have been predetermined. So if you’ve won the lottery and are going, you’re in for a treat! The show is so fun and so enjoyable. I only critique it so heavily because I love the movie so much and have been wanting a musical adaptation for a while now. But I also know it’s Public Works and it’s free and it’s in the park and it’s fun and you can eat ice cream while watching it. If you didn’t win but live in NYC, give the lottery a go! I saw the lottery crowd waiting for winners to be drawn and it was incredibly crowded, so be aware of that. 

Or, if you didn’t win the lottery/don’t win standby lottery, go over to the Belvedere Castle and you can listen in on the show. You’re only seeing their backs, but I saw a bunch of people there watching/listening the whole time!

what accomplishment in your life are you most proud of? Uhh i got dux of english a few years back? I was in the top 10 of 4 subjects last year so that’s pre cool? But tbh the accomplishment i’m most proud of is probably just going to the school I go rn.. OR surviving last year lol 2018 was a mess 

What’s one piece of advice to yourself a year ago? GIRL things are gonna be tough. Like really hecking tough. But it’s not worth it to hold grudges, there’s no point letting fear of what could happen stop you from doing things you want to do and you will survive and you will be stronger because of it. Don’t let what other people say about you get you down, yes, it sucks to hear people speculating about you and your private life, but they have no idea what’s actually going on, and they’re just curious . No one has anything against you. You are loved, and you are worthy, and you are strong. You got this.

what is a skill you wish you had? To play guitar!! Or to be able to sing!!

What’s your degree/favourite subject? Uhhh it was drama but i dropped that and the 2019 school year hasn’t started yet so.. Who knows?

What motivates you to study? The fact that I gotta do well and get good marks in order to get into a good uni course… and the fact that i just want to keep getting better,, and i don’t want to disappoint people and i also don’t want to do badly bc yikes its real competitive at my school so like lowkey fear of failure

What time do you do your best studying? Tbh it really depends, it’s either the morning not long after i wake up (esp if it’s holidays or the weekend), right after i get home from school, or like late at night if i get a burst of motivation (like sometimes i’ll end up studying from 10:30 to 1am which isn’t sustainable if i have to get up at 7 for school) 

Best self care tip for exam season? Don’t spend your time around people who get really stressed out. It only makes you more stressed, and you don’t need that extra worry. Positive vibes only. Stay chill!

Do you listen to music when you study? Yeah. I just listen to music with no lyrics and I’ll use @studyquill​’s playlist :DD

Where do you do your best studying? I do pretty much all my studying at home so.. home?? but i have this spot at school that i like to go to in the mornings when no one’s at school yet because it’s super quiet and i can get some quality work done there 

What’s your go to thing when studying? Write notes, do practise questions, draw summary mind maps and try to recite my notes from memory

aight ive been getting super emo over my favourite sunny eyed dreamboat boy mr sir van mccann so im just going to record my catb concert from three years ago here so it doesnt “wisp away with the sands of time” as i wrote in seventh grade (not after the catb concert) disclaimer i kno that some catb fans say that catb arent the same as they were way back when and im not here to counter that but this is what happened to me when catb were still small and it was 2015 and i know that things mustve changed but im here to document my own experience my hands are shaking btw

June 9 2015 - Varsity Theatre, Minneapolis MN

We got to the venue super early cos we wanted front row or something super fuckin close to front row and yeah man there were maybe like 5 people ahead of us super cool i had my clear backpack, my classic clear concert backpack, and im not really sure how we passed the time but eventually i was “sent on a mission” to see what lies in the alley between the venue and the adjacent building and so i walk over as casually as possible and i pass by the alley and turn my head and lo and behold tall boy Van is standing there in his green reflective sunglasses and dark outfit and i fuckign STOP cos van just he radiates this wonderful energy of that classic leo magnificence but hes smiling, hes friendly and he waves to me and i, being socially inexperienced, am too afraid to approach him so i wave back and WALK BACK THE WAY I CAME. so van watches me pass by the alley, wave at his wave, and then go back. super weird. i regret it but i think its funny. all i know is van smiled at me and he waved at me and i did something clumsy

concert: fuckin grand man i love the balcony, i love the red lights, i loved being second row dead center in front of dreamboat boy i love hourglass i still have my all time fav catb song rango on video fuckin class tops every concert ive been to so far bc i was second row (but am was so good too)

post concert: we were waiting s o l o n g for catb to come out. they didnt come out. I again was sent another mission back to the alley and there i saw a Very Tall Figure and was like fuck. somehow we approached and somehow I got pushed to the front so alas im standing in this narrow fucking alley at like midnight w a very tall man (whos beaming at me, sunglasses OFF) and since im in the front vans like approaching and i was yellin at myself like dont fuckign stand there bihinch so i muster the courage to meet him halfway and he greets me and holds out his hand for me to shake (I shake it) and here things start getting a little blurry in terms of order so here it is, most likely out of order but who will ever know for sure:

Somehow we hug. I forgot if i asked or if it just happendd but we hug. Hes very soft and very warm and he smiled.

i told him how great the concert was and how much i loved his music and how his concert “made my night.” He said something (while smiling) and then he said “youve just made my night” and of course i insist that hes made MY night cos like... no ones ever told me i meant something before so i told him again “you made my night” and HE SAYS “YOUVE MADE MINE” AGAIN LIKE BOY...... TAKE MY COMPLIMENT (he won the argument i left it at “no, you made my night”)

i remember that i got him a gift and a letter so at some point i pull it out and hand it to him. He smiles and says thank you, “i’ll be sure to read it” and tucks the letter into his chest pocket meanwhile i also hand him a little stuffed turtle and i, being a Weakling in social situations, quickly explain that i hope he likes it and that “im not sure if you like turtles, but-” and he cuts me off and reassures me that h eDOES like turtles and he takes the Little Turtle in his hand and bends down next to me (cos im small and van is Tall) and tells me about the time a fan gave him a little turtle bracelet ehich he wore almost all the time and pointed to his wrist of the arm he wore it with (i forget, oh dear. i believe it was his right?) (”but it broke”) and he looked at me and smiled while we were in that position his presence is very warm and then he straightens back up and holds the little turtle in his hand up against the golden streetlight where he “promises to take good care of it” and i swear the pure joy on his face the entire time made me fall in love (though it fell dormant until 2018)

At soe point i take a very bad, very poor quality selfy with van but to this day it remains on the back of my clear phonecase becasue we looked so happy despite the terrible lighting and it reminds me of him. van had to bend down next to me to take the picture, and his arm was around my shoulders. He was hesitant to stand back upright cos he thought i wanted ot take more. i didnt (another regret but boy do i treasure the one selfy)

I hand my phone to catbs old manager for group pics. He (the manager) and van take selfies on my phone, which i dont discover until later

we take group pictures. we r all happy. i havent looked at those.

i know its time to leave because i want the other fans to meet the band. I dont want to leave obviously. I ask van for another hug. I hold on to him very tight, and he does the same. i can only reach his collarbone, despite him bending down to reach me.

Van has an endearing way of hugging, ive noted, where we hug at the side (my right, his left) together while the other sides are kinda separate, not touching, but u have ur arms wrapped around eachother, my right arm underneath his left and onto his back while he can quite literally put his entire arm around me, the opposite arms are kind of around each other. I try to go onto my toes to hold on to him closer because he feels like a safe haven and he makes me feel like i belong somewhere and he makes me feel tranquil and warm and everything positive but not in the jittery excitement kind of way, just peaceful. I hold on to him very tight. its the last time.

We wave goodbye. its very cold without him despite being warm enough to wear a skirt and short sleeve

I go home and remember that i have another little turtle, but this one is blue and a bit worn (thus i gave van the green one). I name it Van and keep it on my bookshelf.

Embarrassing story:

It’s actually not so big but like, I was chilling with my friend Karyn (@noxiim) inside a lecture building, waiting to go into the theatre for my medsci lecture. I was just on tumblr when my mutual who loves to attack me with rude Taehyung (@prettymochi) tagged me in this post. It was the first of its kind that I ever saw and when I saw it my hard stan senses activated and I literally spasmed and made the loudest pterodactyl screech LIKE SO LOUD IN FRONT OF GOD KNOWS HOW MANY OTHER STUDENTS WERE SITTING THERE AND I SCREAMED SO LOUD AND STARTED HYPERVENTILATING I’M…. EVERYONE WENT SILENT AND JUST STARED AT ME AND AT THIS POINT I DIDN’T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH MYSELF I WAS SO EMBARRASSED DO YOU SEE WHAT TAEHYUNG DOES TO ME I HATE HIM

How I got into BTS:

Okay so as I said I got into them through FBE, because I lost the “Try Not To Move While Watching” challenge when the snippet for FIRE came on. I thought it looked cool so I wanted to check out the full version and I did. Coincidentally my friend rang me and she’s super into kpop, so I picked up the call and she heard the music in the background and started freaking out that I was listening to bts cause that’s like her ult fav group. So I just started listening to FIRE and at this point I knew absolutely nothing, no names no faces just that the MV looked cool and the music was good. My friend then said listen to DOPE next, and I did and I really liked it. Super different to what I normally listen to but what I loved about BTS was the R&B/Hip-hop element in their somewhat EDM-infused tracks so that really caught my attention. In this process I discovered how quickly I fell in love with Seokjin, he is my first bias. When his hook came up in FIRE I literally smashed the spacebar to pause the video and yelled into the phone “WHO IS THIS MAN WITH BLOND HAIR” and she told me his name is Jin. When I listened to DOPE I saw that heart-melting smile and I paused the MV again and I asked my friend “Who’s the one in the doctor costume? His singing is beautiful” and she said “That’s the same person Jin” and I was like :o wow. I guess I kept watching MVs for him before I knew about their vlives and bombs and whatnot. But it wasn’t until my friend said “Listen to Save Me, it’s my favourite song and I know it’ll be yours too,” and she was right. I listened to Save Me and I guess that song is what officially made me a fan of BTS, it’s still my favourite to this day :) I was on call with her for 3 hours that night, googling up the members learning their names trying to recognise faces without judging by their hair colour :’) ahhh it was a mess, it was such a hectic night too cause everything was so new to me and I loved the thrill of getting to know them.

I FORGOT TO MENTION! They had intro music for ONLY ONE and it was really kakkoi!

And also about Shoutan's hair! You can barely see in photos, but one side of his hair was partly braided, one braid had green infused in it!

So, I know I scared a few of you by saying how I noticed Shoutan was off with part ① of my report. I never seen anyone else mention about it at all, so I really wondered if it was only me who noticed? So I asked my Japanese Shoutan friend, who, if there was anyone, would notice for sure. And she said she did notice he was off too. She said it could also be the technical difficulties they had which may have bothered Shoutan. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed, I knew I wasn't imagining things!

Winter Blossom

There was a piano on stage and a silhouette next to it. IS THAT SHOUTAN?!?? ITS HIM!!

Maeno had the cane. He walked to the left side and got on the platform, he got raised up.

Then, HE PULLED OUT THE 3RD STAGE RING AND PUT IT ON!!!!! He got lowered down, walked to the middle of the stage, AND PULLED OUT THE 5TH STAGE RING AND ALSO PUT THAT ONE AND YOU GUESSED IT, HE PULLED OUT 4TH RING AFTER AND WORE THAT TOO (Yes, it was in that order)

He's so... Maeno. 😂

Starlight Memory

They sang and danced with mic stands and they were so kakkoi!! Shoutan stood on the right side. They made hearts with their hands If I remember correctly, Shoutan seemed fine from this song onwards.

The Dice Are Cast instrumental ver was played in the background. Footages of QN during 5th Stage, 4th Stage Making of pamphlet shoot and op movie They caught Maeno practicing his dance steps XD Tatsun and Maeno posing with the cakes, celebrating God's S.T.A.R getting number 1 Shoutan and Morikubo with the cakes too.

The first song that starts was something I didn't recognise at all??? The doors opens up and we see something huge with the live logo on it. IT'S DJ MORIKUBO WITH A DJ SET OMFG LMAOO He changed clothes and his outfit looked fitting at a DJ with sunglasses, leather jacket He also had a inbuilt maracas mic!! 😂 He introduced each of the dancers as the DJ

Double Face

The first thing I noticed is that Maeno wore the bangle light!! XD There was 2 dancers who wore a masquerade mask, one was dressed in white, the other in black, they were on either side of Maeno This performance was amazing. Maeno performed while changing from butler Camus to Count Camus Everyone freaked out every time he changed to Count Camus

NO. 1

During the end part of the second chorus: “aijou kanjou shinjou joushou koujou ZENBU nose de shirane KAIKAN kanjitē daro Baby?” they showed a video of Ranran saying the words to the song and the lyrics plastered on top of each other, one after another (it was graffiti-like) It looked so badass The venue and the cinema was really heated up with the fan chants.

Mune No Koudou

Seeing how everyone changed to a more rock like outfit, I had a lot of expectations with Shoutan's outfit. As soon as he appeared I was so star strucked (*_____*)

He looked so kakkoi and beautiful AND it's Mune No Koudou (my fav song along with Futari No Monogram) FINALLY I can hear him sing it!!!!!!! I never expected it at all, but he danced to the song!! The dance was kakkoi and sassy at the same time lol It suits Ai-chan! Throughout the whole performance I sat up watching him in awe He was definitely fine during this.

WILD SOUL

The choreography was just like 4th Stage, except you can see the huge difference from then and now. Tatsun was so much more confident this time round.

Morikubo sang with maracas mic and held another maracas in his other hand. The dancers had maracas too, everyone shaked them along with the song. All the fans shook along with them using their light sticks.

Something crystal/snowflake like came down and Maeno held it on the top of his palm and then it flew away The effects were so beautiful!! During the instrumental part, he pointed the cane towards us along with the beat, as if he was casting magic on us Confetti fell.

Marriage

While Maeno was still on stage, the door opens just like in 4th Stage and the rest of the members came walking out They were SOOO kakkoi!! They all stood still, posing until it was their line to sing The did the hand circle thing again

God's S.T.A.R

AHHHH!!!! WE ALL WOW WOW'D WITH THEM JUST LIKE SHOUTAN ASK BEFORE!! I'M SO GLAD THAT WE DID THAT IN THE THEATRE TOO!!!!!

Definitely the best song of the night, everyone was fired up from it!

They were all on the stairs and then walked down a little and they sat down in the same order as QN did in the car in the anime!!!!

As Quartet Night, even this time, compared to everyone else I'm still the newbie after all

When reading the script, I'm always watching Ai's back, thinking, how can I catch up to him? I must catch up to him. I feel like, even just a little, I've finally caught up a bit with Quartet Night and Ai.

After their emotional talks I started tearing up and crying from time to time listening to this song. Also, I always get emotional hearing this song because the episode aired during my very first trip to Japan and it always reminds me of Japan.

They made hearts and did hi5′s again but this time, Morikubu & Tatsun, Shoutan & Maeno. They added a break to the song and did the solo dances again!!!!!!

We started calling encore but changed to calling out "Quartet Night" pretty soon afterwards. Me and Yukina chanted too Not everyone in the theatre chanted which was understandable

Ai-chan: It was really a fun live, it's thanks to everyone, we'll surely meet again. Camus: You've done well following us up till now, this is certainly not the end. I can't remember what song it was anymore, but the camera caught a wink from Shoutan EXTREMELY briefly!!!!!

They mentioned us live viewers A LOT which made us all feel so included! But since they never knew which camera was on them, they always looked and pointed at the wrong direction 😂 It was really cute though

Although this is posted really late, I realised it's actually pretty good timing after posting the translation to Shoutan's 6th Stage blog. He talked about the love they felt at this live, and really, the love was unreal, I've never felt it this much at an event before. You can really feels the fans' love and the Seiyuus' love, they were equally as strong! Obviously I am a huge QN fan, so I am biased, but I felt it more here than in 5th and 6th Stage Because it was purely QN and their own fans. Even though I was in a cinema and not at the actual venue with them, I can say for sure the feeling was all equal. I can still remember the pure satisfaction and happiness I felt after watching this Live. Words can’t really explain it, but it was amazing!

And this was the thing that made this live more amazing than others, of course they were restricted to what they can do because of the venue (I.e. No flying, no driving on the stage lol etc) but even without all the fancy performances, this live was better.

Of course, if QN isn't your number one group then you most likely won't feel what I felt when you come to watch the DVD.

Wait! Maybe I'm not biased! QN Live was better than Shoutan's Prism Live ButnothingwilleverbeatShoutan’sBudokanLive!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me say this one more time.

I also want to say that I used to read everyone’s comments and tags (every single one of them), but I haven’t had much of a chance to do that recently due to life. I didn’t even look any other posts or anything, I only came onto Tumblr to post whatever I needed to and just go. I started to read responses just recently again though.

Sit your ass down, lemme talk bout my first concert experience

Guys so ytd was Party Baby in SG and i rmbed rushing to buy the tickets and i got the center stall which was nice and i was at a decent distance away from the stage. Then,i went really early ytd which was arn 12+ when it starts at 7.30(i basically went directly from school) Slowly but surely, more people started to come and fansites also arrived and they were having giveaways. I talked to a fellow fan and we just stayed tgt while checking what giveaways there were. As it drew closer to the concert, more fans were crowding arn the entrance of the place and it was really crowded and i was pretty worried that we were disrupting the place since the concert was held at a tourist hot spot basically the Mastercard theatre in Marina Bay Sands(we crowded outside thr) When the time came, we went in,queued for our autographed album,went to our seats and waited. Opening act came in, it was lit guys i just started to jam with my lightstick and all. He was really good! Then,when the counter started to count down, everyone started to get more excited.

 They came in, everyone was screaming(?) I was more of shouting since i knew screaming would immediately hurt my throat.they came in and then the lights and all the mist, it was actually rly hard to get a clear view of them but i was shouting along trying to fanchant as much as i can(i normally prefer to sing the whole thing somewhat).I didnt know who to focus on tho, i wanted to look at everyone so my eyes were flying everywhere. The thoughts that came to me was they are real, they are infront of me rn. When they finished performing the first section, the lights turned on and i could see them in their glory. They greeted us with singlish(they tried) except for yongguk. my mind just kept chanting they are real and infront of me,  these bunch of flawless perfect humans.What did i do to deserve them,i dont fking deserve them. and thats how i got fking emotional and i felt my eyes gettin teary the more the concert went on 

The lounge talk was nice, it was chill and all and the girl that got on stage was so lucky. I was so fking emotional for the whole thing my god just thoughts of seeing them right there and the fact that i dont deserve them, like i felt tears in my eyes and my face scrunching up, the feel when you are gonna cry but i didn’t but i was still jamming and all and at one point i was so hyped i swung the lightstick abit too much and hit the person in front of me, i immediately oh shit im so sorry I really hope she didnt get hurt by that. When it was coming near the end it was so fking fast i didnt realise at all. They kept lying tho, they were like this is our last song then after awhile they came back in. stop playing with my heart. There is this one part where Daehyun pointed at me and smiled while he sang and all (it was in my direction it could have been for anyone else but lets just pretend that he pointed at me) during Be Happy(if im not wrong, i dun rly rmb everything is so hazy)

I was smiling throughout the concert honestly like this fun, i havent had in awhile though it was emotional as well like after seeing them on screen for so long… Oh and they performed 1004 which is like one of my fav songs so i was rly happy and Youngjae got teary at the last stage with you which made me even more…

ok but there was a feeling that came to me, like idk is it because im so socially awkward and i can only be open arn people im close to but there was this foreign feeling, maybe cuz i only started to really stan them in like 2015 and its my first time seeing them live or its the realisation that im just a fan out of many and there were many other fans that were like so open and playful with them and were with them longer than i have and even learnt korean and all while i was waiting for the translator which apparently translated wrongly but i take what i can get. I mean no matter how much i love them and all, they are still strangers that you only just somewhat know. I guess seeing them live just made sure that we indeed are strangers.(ok that took a sad turn)

And the most important, the Hi touch. Guys guys i fked up like i entered, saw them up close and i could see how smooth their skin is, zelo was first so seeing him in all his tall ass,cute face glory, i dazed out,i honestly dun rmb the in between just hi-fived,thanked him and left. next was himchan, he had his hand down so i hi-fived him and looked up,made eye contact and fuck he was beautiful and then i completely blanked out, i wanted to tell himchan i love him but i fking blanked out after seeing his handsome af face and then sadly he didnt smile at me maybe just maybe cuz i fked up. Then i just continued on(my legs just moved on its own) in a daze, i dun even rmb whether i thanked youngjae and jongup, i dun even rmb their face during the thing cuz i was in such a level of dazed though i did rmb yongguk since seeing him smile his gummy smile in front of me kinda snapped me out of it for awhile, he gave me a small smile and nod combo and then daehyun, he was at the end of the line and he was so cheery with his smiles and eye smiles and i snapped out of it when he said bye and i quickly said an ‘i love you’ to him but i was already moving forward alr. My left hand is blessed now

But im so happy i could get to see and hear them live and all and this was my first concert tbh, everything was moving so fast and i feel like at least i accomplished something finally since i was nvr a fan of crowds and all. I know this was so long but thks for reading my first concert experience with B.A.P
