#its the infantilizing and almost fetishizing thats hurtful
Text
Fun facts for those of you that follow my peachy chronicles (not that I update abt my life recently but lmao): But I went from being upset i wasn't being treated well/right by people to now putting down my foot and stating my needs/wants clearly without room to misunderstand me.
And I think that's super important progress! The problem is is that now I'm seeing p clearly how and where people treat me and it's not very fun! I'm v good at compromises and am super patient! And I'm realizing people take that hella for granted and it's like. Dude.
Im just happy I'm figuring it out! Being autistic and people being my special interest is,,,hard bc I know where ppl perceive me and how ppl can use that and it's just,,,
Gosh idk! I think it's great progress but strange.

Dude its like??? One of my biggest pet peeves when ppl try to infantilize characters (especially traumatized ones) to try and make them as pitiful as possible like thats the only way that someone can be sympathetic??? While completely ignoring the more destructive and violent symptoms???? It always made me feel kinda sick to see like that its almost like fetishization??? In a way??? Of mental illness??? Like “oh no theyre an uwu soft bby now and mentally ill so everybody forgives them and anybody who doesnt is awful” THATS NOT HOW IT WORKS IRL PPL CAN BE SYMPATHETIC AND REDEEMED WITHOUT SUDDENLY ACTING LIKE AN UWU SOFT BBY WHO CAN DO NO WRONG AND VICTIMS DONT HAVE TO FORGIVE THE PPL WHO HURT THEM can you tell I have a bone to pick?
you’re so valid anon HSKSBK,,, i think it’s definitely prevalent in a lot of fandoms and it’s pretty weird to see ,, mental illness should never be vilified or romanticised and there seems to be an over abundance of both in some people in the fandom
