Give me all of your headcanons about uncle Jace + the Malec kids

Yes! This is a great idea!

Max and Rafael love their uncle Jace very much. When they have sleepovers at the New York institute he lets them stay up as late as they want eat all the junk food that their little hearts desire and when Clary is not around he takes them up to the training room and let them pick out their favorite weapons to play with. Even though Max is a warlock and not a shadow hunter jace treats him and Rafael exactly the same giving them both the same amount of in his words guidance and his special junior shadow Hunter training program. Whenever he and Alec go out on patrol Alec always checks Jace for stray children that he’s trying to sneak out of the apartment to come along. Claries background picture on her phone is of Jace on the couch with Rafael on his shoulders watching cartoons and Max on his lap while Rafael is watching TV Jace and Max are both asleep. Jace teaches Max and Rafael about some of his ancestors like James Lucy and will Herrondale. Max and Rafael are convinced that Kit and Jace are brothers not cousins so whenever they see kit they run up and bear hug him yelling uncle kit! Uncle kit! Jace thinks this is hilarious and after a while kit stops protesting that he’s not there uncle to. Jace usually lets Max and Rafael watch whatever they want but he never! Ever! Let them watch DuckTales! He teaches them about what he calls feathery demons from hell Jace explains that they are the worst and nastiest demon out there. Four Raphael‘s seventh birthday magnus and Alec get him a blue pajama set with little ducks on it Rafael and Max run screaming into their room and lock the door when Alec ask Jace why he’s tearing up he says because he’s so proud. Simon and Jace are constantly having who’s the better uncle battle which involves a lot of different presents and fun activities for the two boys. But their aunt Isabell always seems to win. Clary was on the fence about having kids for a while but after seeing how much their uncle Jay’s meant to Max and Rafael and how much he loves them she decided that maybe it was time to start popping out little Herrondale’s after all.

Speaking of edmund herrondale, what's up with Jace and Kit being emphasized as related when the blackthorns and lightwoods are more closely related to Jace and the same degree away from kit? I'm not saying anything important I'm just very confused/annoyed at trying to understand why last names matter so much...idk

I have been waiting to rant about this whole last name business for a while now so thank you.

First of all, I think Shadowhunters are obsessed with last names because for them family and lineage is kind of a big deal. As we know, names like Lightwood and Herondale have more power  and privilege, so that’s why they are kind of serious about it. 

BUT.

This whole last name thing, very similar to mundane world, is quite heteronormative. Like they always take the man’s last name and what happens to the woman’s line???? For example, since Robert’s children took his last name, what happened to Maryse’ family??? Are there any Truebloods out there???? I love the blackthorns but why do we not know Julian’s mom’s last name?????? Which family is she from???? Do the blackthorns have cousins?????

If last names are so important to nephilim, then why can’t they just choose whatever the fuck they want????? the answer is they are stupid 

Fun fact - Both Charlotte and Alec changed the system in how shadowhunters take their last names. Charlotte made her children take her last name instead of Henry’s and Alec hyphenated his last name with Magnus’. I stan two (2) consuls who get shit done.

My unpopular opinion about this character:

He really did deserve better than canon did. He got kicked so often by the writers with no time to recover. Such a good character arc at its core, such a shoddy execution. *sighs*

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:

So many things. So, so many things. Makes my brain shut down.

Okay. I wish he hadn’t forgiven Maryse. I wish he had managed to stand up for himself. I wish he wasn’t as love-starved as he is so he kept forgiving so he wouldn’t lose them.

So like, I’m not gonna be any more coherent than a lot of other people have been. But I’m raging over Shadowhunters’ cancellation. Sure, it’s trashy at times and I have to advise people to endure the first few episodes because some of the acting is cringeworthy. But it’s also decent at times and it’s decent with a motley array of races and sexualities. 

I’m asexual (in case anyone could have missed it) and there is exactly one character in all the shows I watch who is like me. ‘But what about BoJack Horseman?’ people ask me, a lot. I don’t like BoJack Horseman, it’s not my style of humour. That shouldn’t disqualify me from being able to see people like me, to see people going through story arcs that I can relate to. So I’m fucking pissed off, because Raphael came along and for the first fucking time I could take a character and go ‘This one’s mine’ and it’s canon. My brother and best friend both watched the show long before me, and they both messaged me after Raphael was revealed to be asexual, saying ‘Hey, so I just saw a character who’s like you.’ And I like Shadowhunters. It’s got all the fantasy and the angsty non-romantic relationships all over the place and a decent amount of women who don’t all dress up sexy (it’s not a problem, it’s just common and I hate it) and guys, swords. 

It’s Pride month. It’s been a rough year, personally. And I’ve been seeing a lot more ace exclusionists around, a lot of anti-queer people in general and I am so tired of it. Because we’re supposed to be getting better, but people seem to take that to mean they can be as shitty as they want and I am tired. Shadowhunters is the one fucking show where I can see not just a token queer, however well written, but an ensemble. Fucking Jace Herrondale admitting he’s got a family history of psychosis- not one of the nice, family friendly mood disorders, actual impaired reality psychosis- and he’s afraid. That meant something. Platonic relationships mattering as much or more than romantic ones, unhealthy behaviours being called out and addressed by both friends and romantic partners, I was living for this show. Healthy, happy, powerhouse queer relationships. And I haven’t even touched on the racial diversity, mainly cuz it bugs me as a feminist but this is about what hurts me personally. Although, while we’re on that, it sure rubs the wrong way that I’m losing the most racially diverse show I watch. But it’s Pride month, it’s supposed to be the month we’re able to feel a little more happy about being openly ourselves. And I don’t. I just feel...cut. Tbh, I feel a bit like all the dickheads I’ve been arguing with all year just scored something. Even though they probably had nothing to do with this. I’ve fought hard to be where I am with myself and now? I’m back on my own.

Not again

Title: Not again Fandom: Shadowhunters (TV) Ship: Clace Word count [Approx.]:230 Notes:  I haven’t slept, this drabble came to me in the early hours of the morning.  Also Clary didn’t loose her memories. - Clary, Jace, Isabel, Simon, the two Mr. Lightwood-Bane’s, Maryse, and Luke sat at an unsurprisingly large table in a coffee shop.  There was no occasion particularly, just a rare moment in which the world wasn’t collapsing in on itself, and so they all spent time together, as a family.   Maryse and Luke were telling the group of a recent trip they had gone on, giving funny anecdotes, and grossing out their kids.  When they turned to kiss, a thought occurred to Clary, that she couldn’t help but giggle out loud at. “What’s funny, Fray?” Simon asked, sipping his coffee, his arm resting on the back of Izzy chair.  Clary composed herself to explain, “oh, just some god awful symmetry.”  All eyes turned to her looking for explanation, which she offered. “Man who raised me being in love with the woman who raised Jace...” Her eyes danced up to those of her boyfriend’s, who pinched the bridge of his nose.  He exclaimed, “No.  No no no , we are not being related again.  Nope.” Before long the whole table was howling.  It was such a ridiculous idea, and eventually they had agreed that this was okay because neither time will they have actually been related.  Magnus tried once again to help by reminding them that siblings are often attracted to one another, causing all the other people, pardoning Maryse, to reply something like “gross” all of them having siblings of their own.   Ultimately they decided that as long as everyone was happy, that little detail didn’t matter this time.
