>> summary: jade and floyd have eyes that arent a societal norm

>> warning(s): bullying (?)
Never, in the history of ever, was glowing eyes considered to be normal. It was considered to be quite the contrary, in fact. Floyd and Jade both knew that, they actually welcomed that unnerving fact when they learned that on land, not everyone had that capability. It was easy to make themselves more alienated than before after learning that fact; it made it easier for the two of them to do their jobs in the Mostro Lounge. The easier they can scare customers when they don’t pay their tabs or don’t tip well.
But as children, they were never fully accustomed to the god-awful stares they would receive from the entire community of merfolk wherever they went. It was why they usually stuck to the outskirts of town, kept themselves away from prying eyes when not in school. Luckily, their eyes weren’t noticeable until night, so they just had to keep themselves out of the sight of others if they were playing outside when not near any lights. Which was a lot. And that made it exceedingly hard to keep themselves hidden.
And once one person saw, everyone else knew. The parents kept their kids away from them, but the meaner parents willingly pushed their kids towards the eel twins. And pushing wasn’t just a one time thing.
The twins were beaten: slapped, punched, whatever the merkids could do, really. And the twins couldn’t speak about it to anyone. If they told the administrators of the school, nothing would be done about it. They deserved it, at least, in the adults minds they did. If they told their parents–especially their father–they would most likely go ballistic and get them kicked out of their house.
Their father noticed, though. He taught them how to fight back, how to defend themselves so he didn’t have to see his two sons come home with bruises anymore. But he was never sure if his efforts did any good. Not until they came home at the end of their elementary school career with six sturgeon scales. Their father was immensely proud of them. But pride in someone could mean fear in another.
Middle school was rough for the twins. The halls cleared for them, which on one account was nice. But on the other, they weren’t able to talk to anyone other than each other, which didn’t bother them in particular. It just… infuriated them. Infuriated them that they weren’t accepted by society. It seemed that they were going to be their own pack–of course with the addition of their mother, father, and grandmother–but they were all they had for each other, and damn if one of them lost the other, then everything would spiral.
Azul was a late addition to their little group. Somehow, he wasn’t unnerved by their eyes. Maybe it was because he was a thief to others, and had assumed he had seen it all. Or maybe he really just didn’t mind. Either way, both Jade and Floyd willingly accepted Azul to join them with anything.
Their second year of middle school, the three of them had decided to join the school band. But, they were almost outright denied by both the children and the director, saying, “You three just aren’t the right fit for the band, I’m sorry.”
Which was code for: We don’t like you and are disgusted by the abomination of how you were created.
The twins knew that. Azul figured it was a different reasoning to why they didn’t let him join, but he didn’t bother to push the subject.
Instead, Floyd wanted them to make their own band. So, he stole some equipment from the school band room, repainted it, and hit the drums like no one's business. His disease of happiness was infectious, and Jade and Azul both caught it.
The Leech parents watched the children make ratchety, unmelodic music with each other. And it was awful, but they all loved it. The tweel’s parents swelled with pride. Pride that their boys had made something when the word–or what felt like it–was against them.
But one person's pride may be another's fear.

Hola! Alright, It's been a while since I've been on here. School has had me pretty busy.... Now I'm back to continue on with character name analysis!
Octavinelle
First up: Azul Ashengrotto
Now for one thing, his first name means blue in spanish. His eyes also happen to be blue. His last name consisting of the two words ashen and grotto, reminds one of the dimness of the holes or caves in the ocean. Additionally it may harken back to Ariels' secrete grotto from the first Little Mermaid film.
Now onto the tweels
Jade Leech
When I think of the word jade, I'm reminded of the precious stone. I'm not really sure why this would be chosen as his name. His hair colour is similar to the stone, but that's about it. Now the last name for he and his brother being leech...I mean... do I really need to say anything here? When I think of leech, yes I think of leeches,
but I also think of a person or people who "leech" off of others for their own benefit no matter what that may be. And like Ursula with her eels where would Azul be without the help of the tweels?
Sorry for the terrible rhyme.🤣 kind of.....
Okay, so Floyd!
Apparently the name Floyd is a Welsh name meaning grey haired.
Hey! I never noticed that! Jade= the greenish blue part of the hair and Floyd= the dark greyish piece of hair they both have... we have learned this just now together.... or is it just me? If you had already noticed this, then kudos to you. You catch on much faster than I.
Alright, well that's all I have for ya this weekend. Till next time. Hopefully next week.

OK
So
Like I adore sea monster!Octotrio.
It's a fantastic thing. However
What if
Instead
They had a monster friend. The funniest part? That monster is the sweetest one out of them.
Azul uses it to his advantage obviously (we love our capitalistic octo)
Floyd is happy cause he can squeeze them as tightly as possible.
Jade.. Jade feeds them poisoned mushrooms.
Yes I will write more on this if I feel like it.

"Be careful venturing too deep, darling, things aren't always what they seem in the dark..."
I remember reading a note in one of the art books that the eels' body is luminescent since they live in the deep sea and I just...went a little out of control again and my victim is Jade.
This was so HARD, I don't draw underwater things, but I think this turned out really nice <3 I especially had fun adding the speckles to Jade's body.
