First of all The Frame is not my definition of sci-fi, it’s more magical realism. More importantly, it’s an onion: layer upon layer of meta and meanings.
You can watch this follow up to Ink as a fan fiction writer and enjoy the struggle with canon.
You can watch it as a philosopher and ponder the questions of determinism and free will. ( the writer indicates they were exploring Nihilism and whether we’ve been abandoned by our Creator)
You can watch as a reality impaired individual and see someone else question whether your life is actually The Truman Show.
Or you can simply enjoy the power of stories and music, the way they reach across seemingly impossible chasms and bind us together through those core things we share as human beings.

oooohhh for the writer asks: 14, 25, and 29 (for dulce et decorum est) 👀👀 (also hi 💖)
Hello hello! <3<3<3
14: Are there any tropes you would only read if written by a trusted friend or writer? - Noncon is a big one. I don't enjoy reading graphic rape tragedy, which does shut me out of some very good recovery fic, unfortunately, but if it were written by someone I knew and trusted I'd be much more inclined to give it a try. Somewhat similarly, character death/extreme angst, especially without a happy ending. There are some kinks I'm not PARTICULARLY into (humiliation is one, some others) that I'd give a go for someone I know! But overall I tend to be pretty keen to try most things at least once!
25: What other websites or resources do you use most often when you write? - Oh gosh, right now it's the Middle English Compendium maintained by UMich, THE resource for Middle English translation. I also find myself on Pinterest a lot for fashion inspiration, and wikipedia in general for research.
29: What songs would be (or are) on a playlist for Dulce et decorum est? Explain your choices if you want! - Legit just cobbled this together based on Vibes so feel free to interpret how you want lol
The Day the World Went Away - Ramin Djawadi (Westworld Soundtrack)
Adagio for Strings - Samuel Barber
All the Landslides Birds Have Seen Since the Beginning of the World - Kaki King
Who You Were - Jamin Winans (Ink Soundtrack)
Fire/Bombing London - John Murphy (28 Weeks Later Soundtrack)
Hand Covers Bruise (Reprise) - Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross (The Social Network Soundtrack)
Manipulated Living - Michael Andrews (Donnie Darko Soundtrack)

Ayg - The Atomless | Playlist
Kill a Stone - HUMANWINE | There's a fair bit of Humanwine on this playlist so let me explain that first? HUMANWINE is an acronym that stands for "Humans Underground Making Anagrams Nightly While Imperialistic Not-Mes Enslave". And overall, I feel like the tones of The Atomless, particularly the way Matt has built Saga, are in line with the ethos that Holly (the brain behind the band) is exploring.
Kill a Stone in particular makes me feel like folk music on The Lower Decks might sounds like this.
Her heart was hard to please
It was some kind of disease
We found her body there
beneath the Dragon Market
Script Language - HUMANWINE | Ayg in early Atomless is so deluded into believing the lie of Saga, and despite every bad feeling she's ever had, she imagines this grandiose life that she'll have one day. The juxtaposition between the fanciful ballroom tone of the song and the cynical lyrics feel spot on to me.
We objectify and sell the earth
Until the other side of birth
And to each other jagged pins
Out of our mouths
The Liars Club - Coheed and Cambria | Early weeks aboard the Patchwork feel like this to Ayg. Lying, or at least obscuring, is so normal on the Upper Decks. Frankly, with most people. So, meeting new people that she has to depend on feels even scarier. And they all seem to be hiding something of their own so, why not.
Or do you want me to lie?
'Cause I can do it baby
I can do it, lie to you
I'm begging you
'Cause life feels so much better
When we just avoid the truth
Drones - Jed Whedon | Just, Ayg, please wake up you sad little dummy.
We're drones
Happy as we are
Thinking our sustain
Lies in love
The flow
Tearing us apart
Follows the unchanged
Ancient sun
All the Same - Julia Nunes | Ignoring the romance overtones of this song, this pretty accurately describes Ayg's relationship with Quinn, and earlier relationships she's had in the Lower Decks. Being an asset to people rather than a person to them is a fear that she repeatedly manifests through her own actions.
Am I pre-programmed to live for somebody else?
I'm always standing at attention in the event that you might need my help
Rock Bottom - The Prize Fighter Inferno | Getting closer to the Patchwork crew hasn't exactly relieved any anxiety. Every step closer is a step towards losing them. Theriac talks about leaving more every day. Skye never wants to return to Saga. Azhaam, she's not sure yet.
This is all that I've got
Just remember to stop and love all the ones around you
Cause they won't stick, cause they won't stick around forever
Soliton - Steam Powered Giraffe | Right now, this is how Ayg feels about her connection to machines, computers, and the energy within them. People keep disappointing her, or leaving, or using her (and then leaving). But the machines stay constant. This feeling has been increasingly strong since speaking to the crystal they found on Leviathan's Eye. In my wildest hopes and dreams, Ayg gets to feel this way about a person someday.
Space and time could come undone
Then particles of light could seethe
and burn rainbows across the galaxy
The moon could crumble before our eyes
then break apart and vaporize
The stars could explode and boil Earth’s seas
and rip the fabric of reality
Well I don’t care if all that happens
everything is fine as long as there’s a you and me
Better Than This - Julia Nunes | This song is bitter sweet. Ayg feels like everyone can be their best selves. But there's no one she holds to the standard quite so hard as herself. Maybe learning what it means to be your best self through helping her friends will help her realize that there's a tempered version of this ideal.
I was cold
I was angry
Now I'm gone you should thank me
But I hear it in your voice
It's like you don't have a choice
But you are better than this
Recognize - Jamin Winans | This is an instrumental song. In it's original context, it accompanies a man waking up from a very literal delusion. I want this for Ayg.
Pique - HUMANWINE | In my wildest dreams, Ayg and Skye realize who the real enemy of Saga is. Feeling rage in the right direction would be good for them both.
The tenders of the soil aren't loyal to the royal
The bubbles reached a boil
These seeds are ours
We'll take what we grew
We didn't plant it for you
Work for once cause these seeds are ours
We'll Never Have Sex - Leith Ross | If Ayg gets to fall in love someday, this is what I hope it looks like. Love that doesn't put demands on her and is just sweet, and simple.
You look perfect
You look different
I don't wonder about your indifference
If I said you can never touch me
You'd come over and say I looked lovely
Oh, you kissed me just to kiss me
Not to make me cry
You Are Free - HUMANWINE | This is the end goal for the Patchwork crew for me. Being free, the Atomless sea all theirs to roam, healing the life that's been wronged where they find it, whether it's planets that have abused their wildlife and atmosphere, their people, or both.
The sky is so much bigger when you're free
The stars are so much brighter out at sea
You think you'll get a chip in my head?
Well i'll fight you to the death
I'm no good to you dead
The last several songs on the playlist are all instrumental, including many more HUMANWINE songs and the entire Outer Wilds OST because....yeah obviously that's the vibe.
