This rain will not cease.

Charles pats off his hat, entering the front. His lips thoughtfully twitch.

How horrid it must be to travel in it…

"Welcome home, Mr. Bingley." One of the estate's servants bows her head, and Charles offers a plaintive smile. "Sir, a Miss Bennet has been staying with us for the earlier part of the day with a fever. She has been given a room. Is there anything else you would wish for us to do?"

It feels as if his heart stops entirely.

"Yes, show me where," Charles says briskly, no longer smiling, marching on when the servant leaves. He keeps at her heels.

Jane…

The moment the door is opened, the moment he rushes in.

Another servant dabs off Jane's brow, murmuring reassuringly as Jane fretfully apologises though unable to move herself. Charles waits for the estate's servant locking eyes with the other as they hold down giggles, leaving the door open.

Jane turns her head on the pillow in his direction, shyly casting her eyes away. 

Oh, he dearly wishes she wouldn't…  …

"Forgive me. I do believe it is a cold."

"Do not worry. You are a most welcomed sight, Miss Bennet," Charles announces, forgetting himself while grinning. With her ruddy complexion, and sweat-dampened arms, and Jane's light yellow hair uncombed… he couldn't imagine anyone more beautiful walking into the room.

However this may appear 'improper' of him, Charles dismisses the suggestions to retire for the evening, keeping Jane company.

"I shall leave when you wish for me to leave," he says from a pale-blue upholstered chair, nodding. The doctor informed him of her sore throat, fever, and aching head from traveling in the cold rainy weather. 

Even while being bedridden, Jane's temperament has been agreeable.

Jane's eyes quietly light up.

Despite the rain, it seems to be a warm, eternal summer living inside of her.

"… and if that day does not come, Mr. Bingley?" she rasps.

"Ah, well, I suppose…" Charles leans forward eagerly, his bare hands settled comfortably on his knees. "Then I haven't a care otherwise… as long as you are happy. With me." He lets out an awkward, stuttering laugh, and Jane smiles kindly. "Being here with me, I mean. Are… are you happy?"

He hopes so.

With all of the spirit making him, Charles hopes so.

Jane, Jane, Jane…

"I could not ask for a more sensible and good-humoured companion to remain with me," she whispers feebly. "Thank you."

Charles blinks, startled for a moment as Jane sneezes daintily.

Offering out a handkerchief, he laughs again, his cheeks as flushed as Jane's.

"Truly… the pleasure is all mine, Miss Bennet."

recently finished watching My Lady Jane (a great show, if you ask), but since my Dead Boy Detectives hyper-fixation won't let me go for a second, I can't watch other shows normally without constantly noticing some episodes that makes me think about these ghosts in love.

so tell me this scene isn't so Edwin coded. I mean, when him and Charles go further than just kissing, Edwin will definitely be the one to do tons of research and read dozens of books to be ready to dive into this new level of intimacy. cause that's like he is such a stubborn nerd who likes to know everything.

This is a joke... I wake up (from a fucking nightmare) and find out that The Acolyte is canceled ?! The Acolyte ?! A Star Wars show is canceled and it has to be the one I really watch while I mostly skim the others ?! The first time I finally got interested in Star Wars again, they're canceling it ?! How soon after Lady Jane's announcement ?! But what ?! Is this actually a fucking joke ?! They've never canceled a Star Wars show before and it's precisely when it appeals to female audiences (and with actors of color who have coincidentally received tons of hate) that it's canceled?! A return of postlogy in fucking force! Specifically the reception of Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi (although The Acolyte was far from being that good there were nods to that film especially with episode 6). It literally reminds me of the case of Rose's character but worse! It hasn't even been 3 months since she was arrested?! It’s the end of August and she finished in mid-July ! For what ?! FOR WHAT ?! I was going to make my mother watch it! She couldn't wait and planned to start it tomorrow ! Fuck them, I'm sick of it. I'm basically getting a new Reylo, but worse... because there's not even an ending ! I didn't take well to the cancellation of My Lady Jane (and at least there's the book to have an ending!), but this ?! Go ahead, I want to fucking cry... The big shit joke. Be realistic, the show blew up because of racists and misogynists because the audience was far from bad. And they prevented it from further improving its audience by abruptly canceling the show. It's shameful. I will never get involved in Star Wars again, it's over and for good this time. After My Lady Jane and The Acolyte (two shows about which nothing objectively predicted cancellations), I no longer have any hope for The Dead Boy Detectives.
