After my son left it behind, Derek towed it in, thinking it was probably beyond repair. But then he opened up the hood and he pulled off all the duck tape Stiles had stuck on it. And he managed to fix it. That Jeep, no matter what’s been done to it, it just keeps running. He could never figure out why it wouldn’t break down and stay down.
And I don’t think he ever realized that that’s exactly the way we saw him. I have never seen anyone take that kind of punishment that Derek Hale took, and kept taking, in order to protect the people he loved.

if we are using the jeep metaphor for their love. why was Lydias dream about a car crash, why was their love a car crash that ended in his death, and stereks love one that broke down sometimes but never stoped running, it always ran a little funny, but would always be fixed when Derek put in a little effort

Aight I feel like I should go ahead and officially say this! I probably won't be drawing much of sun and moon anymore! I'll still reblog art and fics of them but I will no longer be a creator! Just a consumer!

Analyzing the Jeep Metaphor TM dialogue in Teen Wolf: The Movie:
“After my son left it behind” (after Stiles left Derek)
“Derek towed it in, thinking it was probably beyond repair.” (he still held onto his feelings, despite knowing their relationship couldn’t be salvaged)
“But then he opened up the hood and pulled off all the duct tape Stiles had stuck on it, and he managed to fix it.” (Derek unpacked the internalized homophobia that Stiles failed to confront)
“That Jeep, no matter what’s been done to it, it just keeps running.” (their love will always endure)
“Your dad had complicated feelings about that Jeep” (about Stiles)
“But it doesn’t mean it needs to be complicated for you.” (ally Sheriff Stilinski encouraging Derek’s son to be out and proud)

Derek hates Stiles' Jeep. Stiles comes to the shop almost every week with it. He doesn't hate it when Stiles brings food with him as payment and argues with him while he picks between the reams of duck tape holding the impossible car together. He doesn't hate speaking to Stiles, sometimes about nothing and sometimes about things they can't speak to anyone else about. He hates that the jeep makes Stiles sad.
Stiles loves his Jeep. Stiles and Lydia argue about it all the time. Stiles loves Lydia but with each week that passes he looks a little more tired, smells a little more depressed. One day they break up. Stiles loves Lydia but hates that that wasn't enough to keep them together. Stiles loves his Jeep but he hates that he can't rely on it to get him out of Beacon Hills.
Derek loves Stiles but he hates that staying here is killing him inside. One day Stiles calls him because the Jeep has broken down again, he sounds angry and close to tears. Instead of taking his usual car Derek gets into a vehicle he hasnt used in a long time. When he eventually pulls up beside the Jeep he tugs Stiles into a brief embrace, then wordlessly works the keys of his old Camaro into Stiles hand. Stiles understands and Stiles leaves.
As Derek sits with the Jeep waiting for the tow truck he thinks he'll probably end up scrapping it. Derek hates Stiles' Jeep.

Something something about the rescue that endangers the 118 being a camper van and how campervans suggest transience and impermanence- of constantly travelling and exploring and searching for something.
Something about it being ‘disabled’ - not broken down but disabled and how Buck hasn’t broken down, but has been disabled by his trauma.
Something something about Buck being highlighted as the one trying to save members of his found family (his brother and sister) and how Buck has been on a journey this season his search for something - for happiness.
Something something about Lev figuring it out in the rubble at the beginning of the season before dying and how Buck will figure it out in the rubble too - after he has died.

look i don’t wanna talk about teen wolf in 2023 any more than y’all wanna listen to it and i swear this is the last time but guys i could have SWORN the jeep was a metaphor for the pack. like it breaks down when they’re not communicating/accuse their best friends of murder etc like are y’all SURE dereks complicated feelings about the jeep aren’t in fact just a representation of dereks complicated feelings towards the pack. and maybe eli stealing it is bc he wants to be in a pack but it’s just him and his dad. like just food for thought

A Real, Legitimate Summary of the Teen Wolf Movie's Plot:
(I'm not joking, but you're going to think I am)
also, spoilers obviously...
Tumblr media
Scott McCall works as a rescue dog saving victims from building collapses in LA
Mr. Harris, the long DEAD biology teacher for school somehow magically comes back from the dead and decides to get his revenge on Scott
Mr. Harris flies to Japan and robs a ramen shop that Liam & Fake-Kira Hikari own, because they decide to keep the nogitsune locked in a spice jar on a spice rack
The nogitsune brings Allison back to life, who has been dead for 15 years, and uses the oni to kidnap everybody to hold them hostage in a magic spirit realm located underneath the lacrosse field while scott & eli play a lacrosse game
The nogitsune's plan is to make the entire pack watch Allison shoot Scott in the heart and kill him, so that everybody will be sad and he can drink their sadness to become more powerful
Scott pretends to die, so the Nogitsune gets made and turns into a WEREWOLF-NOGITSUNE HYBRID MONSTER and attacks
The pack decides that the only way to kill the nogitsune (even tho the nogitsune was previously established to literally be unkillable) is to have Parrish hug him and set him on fire to death
For some reason, the werewolf-nogitsune hybrid monster won't stand still to die, so derek decides to literally SACRIFICE HIMSELF by holding down the werewolf-nogitusne and letting Parrish burn BOTH derek and the nogitsune to death
Derek literally burns himself to death right in front of eli and orphans him
Scott and Allison decide to adopt Eli and run a dog shelter in LA
The End.
(no, i'm not joking.....this actually happened. this was the movie. some of the worst fanfiction that I ever read watched in my life)
P.S the only good part of this really bad fanfic movie is that for the whole movie derek keeps saying that he hates stiles' jeep (and he doesn't explain why) and then at the end of the movie at derek's funeral, sheriff stilinski gives Eli the jeep and says that derek secretly didn't hate the jeep.
then he explains that after Stiles left it behind, Derek towed it back to his auto shop (because derek is a mechanic now btw????) and fixed up stiles' jeep literally so he could keep it for himself. and I'm pretty sure this is supposed to be some metaphor for derek not realizing he's in love with stiles until after stiles moves away and now all that he has left is the jeep????
so, canon!sterek yay!

one more thing about the teen wolf movie, because i’m still not over how bad it was, and i’m taking these few things i liked:
there’s no evidence which would say that derek and stiles aren’t communicating together, on the contrary. when i watched this scene:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“you should be calling your son”, it sounds like a thing derek says more often, - possibly hearing it from stiles, (for my headcanon part - it could be that stiles and his dad had some small argument and aren’t speaking to each other, or avoiding talking.)
And later we even see sheriff's phone, where it seems the past few days hes been in contact with derek and other people, but there’s no stiles -
Tumblr media
and that’s why it would be funny to think derek has to listen to both of their sides of their whatever-disagreement,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
stiles would be every time like, “he still hasnt called”, so derek could be telling sheriff hes tired of his shit and “can you just call your son? not any fbi agents but specifically your son? thanks, yeah he will be visiting next week, im not gonna say more, you both need to sort it out, at least for eli, so you dont argue in front of him”.
-
and another thing is the jeep, of course, the jeep.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
which ofc, derek doesn’t hate it at all, and we find out in the end how much he doesn’t hate it.
Tumblr media
(istill can’t believe this is a real line they said in the movie, but given what other things they’ve said and done in this movie, okay..)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
-
this part in 4x1 is probably the last thing i watched and remembered from the plot, so i will take it as stiles’ decision to never abandon the jeep, and how much it means to him, even with whatever happened in the other two later seasons:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
like, tell me stiles knew he wasn’t going to be around in the town for a while bc of his internship, so he left it at home, thinking it will just.. stay there.
but derek thought otherwise - he wanted to keep it running, to fix it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it’s like this important thing, the jeep, that connects their family, and now it’s eli’s, and derek is still annoyed about it (because he’s alive), but also amused that really that car is eli’s favorite thing just like it was for stiles (and just like derek in that metaphor, it won’t stay down, it keeps running, because again, derek is alive in this version, and everyone is happy and okay. ♥)

Sterek really is the lasagna of queerbait. It's essential to the shows narrative. It is never jossed, they just add more and more layers as to WHY Derek and Stiles should fuck nasty. At every opportunity, Jeff adds more and more.
Why make Derek a goddamn widower, endlessly toiling on Stiles' most prized possessen?? It's insane. At every turn, more and more sterek piles up!!
sterek is so complicated because it's used as queerbait but it's also in the narrative.
derek and stiles's arc are intertwined.
derek doesn't achieve growth without stiles nor he does he learn to trust others or himself again. derek's role in stiles's arc becomes the most prominent when derek is absent. it's no coincidence derek return to the narrative is with stiles and it bookends how it began. full circle.
than there's the stupid goddamn movie.
there was no reason for the jeep metaphor. none. jeff chose that. he chose to break lydia and stiles up unceremoniously too. it's not like just because stiles wasn't there meant they had to break up. he also chose to put the jeep with derek.
there wasn't any real reason for it. last we knew stiles had given it to scott.
which.....knowing derek was meant to be in radio silence gives me some added perspective because the jeep was stiles's relic. like we know the jeep was so associated with stiles it was in the opening credits with him for two seasons. the jeep is a connection stiles had to his mother and it represented his emotional state in season 5. he literally declared in s4 (while searching for derek) he wouldn't ever leave it behind.
but he gave it to scott and yet somehow it ended up derek's hands and derek kept it, worked on it and fixed it.
we've discussed the significance of that already. the sheer unhinged maddness of derek doing this.
the physical manifestation the show used to represent stiles's soul, his connection to reality and to his life is in the care of derek hale and derek refused to give up on it even if he has a complicated relationship with it.
which just goes back to stiles being essential to derek's emotional growth and healing throughout the show.
giving up on stiles would be derek giving up on himself.
because they're each other's anchors and they're in love goddamn it.

You're not imagining things - they had Derek's eyes transition from a blue glow to a red glow
Alpha Derek is confirmed
S4 death = evolved to full wolf shift Movie death = evolved back to an alpha
Or were the alpha eyes always there, just dimmer and hidden by the bright blue?
Regardless, he didn't stay dead in S4 so why should he now. The question is, WHERE is he? We don't actually see him when he's dead. There's no body and no ash left behind, he just vanishes in that ball of fire like he was teleported.
-------------
There were tons of hints about death not being the end and characters being able to come back so they're clearly leaving that possibility open.
Allison died and was cremated (fire) then resurrected 15 years later, appearing naked in the woods. Derek sacrificed himself to get rid of the nogitsune and went up in a ball of flames (fire), is he going to appear naked in the woods next?
Peter calling Stiles: "So my nephew went and died, again… want to help me bring him back?" Stiles: "I was wondering why he showed up naked outside my house. Did you know he's an alpha again?" Peter: "Oh, well that makes things easier"
Did I mention that Derek sacrificed himself in a spirit realm thing ON THE FUCKING NEMETON. HELLO BIG MAGIC TREE STUMP. BARDO AND JACOB'S LADDER ARE VERY MUCH PRESENT. Not to mention Jennifer used it to revive herself...
A line from before about people who are supposed to be dead not being dead (cough Allison, Peter, etc)
Sheriff Stilinski telling Eli that Derek was like the jeep, beaten up more than anyone and still surviving. Stiles had left his jeep because it died then Derek brought it back to life for sentimental reasons because STEREK. He ends the metaphor with until one day Derek couldn't or something like that but the jeep is still there and Eli should keep it running. EXCEPT by his own metaphor, Derek is like the apparently dead jeep and can still be brought back to life.
Oh, and Lydia broke up with Stiles a while back in order to stop her banshee screams from predicting Stiles's death. Also no mention of Eli's mother so both Stiles and Derek are confirmed to be single.
Did I miss anything? I'm not sure.
TLDR
Derek ends up being THE big hero of the movie, easily a thousand times more of a hero than Scott could ever be, they're making it very clear that characters don't stay dead in Beacon Hills, Derek would be an alpha if he comes back, Stiles and Derek are single, and Derek is still showing his feelings for Stiles by keeping the jeep running.
It's a super easy setup for if there's another movie and if they can get Hoechlin and/or Dylan in.
Even if that doesn't happen, they've made fix-it fics super easy to write.

16. “Why? Because I’m in love with you, that’s why!”
For the valentines day prompts if you want 💕
“hey, firefighter—buckley.” the sultry voice pauses for a second as the woman reads the name on his turnout jacket, and then she goes right back to full force flirtation. “i’ve got one more fire you could put out.”
somewhere to his left, chimney snorts so loud buck’s surprised he didn’t spray pieces of his lunch everywhere. as much as he’s tempted to turn to look, he sighs and turns to the woman beside him.
“ma’am, i’m on duty,” he says. “i don’t flirt when i’m on duty.” he doesn’t glance over at eddie when he says this. really, he doesn’t. “are there any fire-related things i can assist you with?”
“only the fire in my—” she starts. buck’s eyebrows fly up, and he hastens to cut her off with a loud “okay then!”
it’s not that she’s not cute. gorgeous, even, with long dark hair and piercing blue eyes. it’s just that—
he’s on duty.
the girl sighs, then tucks a piece of paper into the pocket of his turnout jacket. “maybe you can call me when you’re off duty,” she says, and turns to leave with an impressive flip of her hair.
he climbs into the back of the engine, and the air is tighter than a newly tuned guitar string until buck sits down and everyone explodes.
“i’ve got a fire you could put out,” chimney croons, while eddie reaches into buck’s pocket. he’s too caught up in the feeling of eddie’s hand fumbling around to realise what he’s doing, until eddie holds up the piece of paper with a flourish.
“pay dirt!” hen cries when she sees what eddie’s holding. “go on, buck, call her.”
“i’m not going to call her,” buck says. he tries to sound resolute, but it mostly comes frustrated. “why would i call her?”
“well, buck,” chimney says in his patented big-brother voice. “when you call women, sometimes you can go on dates with them.”
“who says i want to go on a date with her?” buck asks.
“it’s valentine’s day,” hen says. “isn’t that what you’re all about? i seem to remember a whole speech about how valentine’s day is the best time to go on a first date.”
buck sighs. “that’s not me anymore. that was buck—i don’t know, i forgot how the numbering went. buck 1.0? i’m not that guy anymore.”
“i know,” eddie murmurs beside him, nudging an elbow against his. “but you could still call her. she could be nice.”
the engine pulls into the app bay, and everyone climbs out. hen and chimney head towards the ambulance to check on stocks, and buck aims a moody kick at an unrolled pile of hose. “i don’t care how nice she is,” he mutters. “i don’t want to call her.”
“buck—” eddie starts, and when buck turns to look, he sees eddie has his sincere face on. the buck i really think this could be good for you face. the buck please just give it a try face. which—isn’t that just a kick in the pants.
eddie sincerely wants buck to call this girl. which would be fine, except for the part where buck kind of really wants to marry eddie and have his babies.
in a metaphorical sense, that is. he’s open to it if eddie is, but he’s pretty sure christopher is enough kid for the both of them.
except none of that is happening, because eddie wants him to call this random girl he met ten minutes ago.
“i’ll think about it,” he mutters, and stalks off in the direction of the bunk room.
and he does think about it. he thinks about it for the rest of the shift, and in the shower, and in the jeep on his way home. he stews about it, to be exact. he thinks about it all the way to getting his phone out and opening the dial pad, and then he puts his phone back in his pocket and grabs his car keys and drives to eddie’s house without thinking about much of anything at all.
“i’m not gonna call her,” buck says as soon as eddie opens the door, wearing cutoff sweats and an old LAFD t-shirt they’ve stolen back and forth from each other so many times buck no longer remembers which of them it belonged to first.
“who?” eddie says, blinking, and buck pushes past him into the house, brushing against him as he walks by, and it takes everything in him to take three more steps and stand in the middle of the living room instead of just attaching himself to eddie.
“the girl from the call today,” buck says. “with the—” he makes a gesture that’s supposed to encompass all of the flirting, but he doesn’t think the meaning really carries. “she gave me her number. but i’m not going to call her.”
“i—okay,” eddie says, still blinking. “and you drove out here to tell me?”
“yeah,” buck says. “i’m—i needed to tell you. you needed to know.”
“that you’re not going to call some girl?” eddie asks. “why?”
“why?” bucks repeats, and chokes out something that might have tried to be a laugh. “because i’m in love with you, asshole, that’s why, so you can just stop trying to talk me into calling—”
he’s cut off by eddie’s hands cupping his face, eddie’s mouth on his, clumsy and eager. “oh, thank god,” eddie murmurs against his lips, then kisses him again.
“eddie—why—” buck mumbles when they finally break apart, eddie’s forehead resting against his. buck’s hands have found their way to eddie’s waist and he clings to him now like a lifeline, trying to understand what just happened.
“why did i kiss you?” eddie asks, and it’s all buck can do to nod.
“because i’m in love with you, asshole,” eddie says, a grin forming at the corners of his mouth, and kisses him again.
this time, buck gets with the program.
valentine’s day prompts 💗
