I'm reading a lot of things about Hidge's sexuality canon wise. So taking account on what Nick and Matt Lang said (as much as I remember it without rewatching the video proof lol) my argument on why the canon sexuality of Prof. Henry Hidgens is that he is bisexual and Objectumsexual.
Well I think canon wise he is not polyamorous. I can accept that (i have no problem with him being poly canon wise. I am not anti-poly, just faithful with canon) but I remember Nick Lang or even Matt did not specify it. They said, within along the lines/paraphrasing: Henry loves his six boy friends, they are special to him, but Chad IS the apple of his eye. The last sentence they meant romantically.
So why bisexual and not gay? To make it clear, I have no problem with him being gay. I'm willing to be corrected. But since I'm arguing that he's bisexual, well let me start. Of course we haven't seen Hidge talk about or falling in love with specific women characters in the saga so far, however he did say in TGWDLM " Alexa, I love you like every woman flesh and bone", so there ya go. If he can find a woman that is subordinate to him like Alexa and Siri, then he can have a relationship with a woman. Come to think of it, i think he loves Chad the most because I hypothesize Chad always goes along with his plans/ideas. Yes I believe if I were to analyze his relationship personality, he wants to be the dominant in the relationship. He's very controlling and spirals when he doesn't get his way. Which why this is a good segway to...
And with the mention of two famous AI virtual assistants, I think it's enough to say that Hidge has objectophilia. More so in NMT episode Time Bastard where he shared his sexual rendezvous with either one of them to Ted and implied how he did it (some imagination and a little elbow grease or any lube lol). Not to mention that he talks to Alexa and Siri like they're humans. Fun fact, I read somewhere that people who have this sexual orientation cant handle keeping a relationship with another human because they're too controlling hence having a relationship with an object is easier because it has no thoughts, no opinions to consider. Also, this can also be a result of a trauma. Him losing his friends, especially Chad, during a lightning strike attack did not just lead him to isolation and practicing survival instincts, but also drove him to loving objects instead cause at least they won't experience terrible human deaths. Here is the source: https://www.hindustantimes.com/sex-and-relationships/decoding-objectophilia-5-reasons-why-people-fall-in-love-with-objects/story-LMvWWzhs257dD47yxNGC9H.html UPDATE: these facts are more connected to the character that is Prof Henry Hidgens whose personality reflects the generalizing views of the orientation better. Real life Objectums are a lot more complicated than that and can act against stereotypes/generalization. Thanks @fork-bork for reminding me.
Also further explanation:  ur friends can be ur life partners (hence there are old people living with friends in their twilight years) and some people like calling their friends as boyfriends or girlfriends. Hidge is just comfortable with his sexuality and closeness with his friends that he can call his male friends as his boyfriends. I think that's just Jeff's word play and humor going on as he wrote the song. And according to the song "it takes balls": Steve was a priest, Leighton was in a relationship with a person named Gary, and Greg was seeing/dating Steve's mom. Plus all of the boys, sans Chad and Henry, were attracted to females while at college based on their locker room talk acted by the Workin Girls cast.
I'm not like Unhidge Hidge, so tell me about ur thoughts/opinions/rebuttals as long as ur taking account of what I wrote here. Especially proof from the Langs with ur rebuttal. Of course in head canon or fan fic world, anything is free reins and you can experiment with Hidge's sexuality there. Just make sure to specify if it's canon or head canon so to avoid confusion and arguments.
Update:
I have the urge to check my HHP Working Boys screen recordings where Nick and Matt discussed Henry's relationship with the boys if it's poly or not. Update 2: Okay I watched it and Nick just says that Chad is his favorite so get out of that as you wish. But since the boys did their locker room talk about girls without Henry and Chad, I don't think the boys were making out with each other unless maybe just Henry and Chad if it's not unreciprocated from Henry's side.
I can understand if most fans think Henry is gay and not bi since Nick and Matt have not given more concrete proof of his attraction to human females. My only arguments with him being bi is that he loves and has done sexual acts with Alexa and Siri, AI virtual assistants with female names and voices. (NMT episode: Time Bastard).

it's a Darren Criss song if the lyrics are serious but the actors are just having fun with it
it's a Jeff Blim song if the lyrics are insane but the actors are taking it completely seriously

Anybody else notice how in the songs Nerdy Prudes / Dirty Dudes Must Die, Max and Grace are both singing about saving the world in parallel demented ways?
“You think I seek revenge?” / “You think I’d stop with him?” = they both could sing the same line here and it would make sense in their own song
Max says he “could give two shits” that the nerds “defiled my body” / Grace implies that her “being chaste” was part of a plan and giving up her chastity (which her family clearly views as defilement) was not a big deal
“I’m on a new crusade” / “I’m the girl you thought you knew” = their characters, and others’ perceptions of them, have changed dramatically since the story began
Both have the ensemble in the background at the end, singing and emptily looking on as the Max/Grace loses their goddamn mind - but in DDMD, they do that part twice and walk forward (as if warning the audience? Who Grace is pointing at threateningly and turns on at the end, unlike Max focused on Richie) and end with the “darkness will spare my soul” tag (btw Max said he brings light to darkness during one of his god complex monologues…so spare them from him too?)
Notable difference: Unlike Max, Grace is never worried about “will you pray for me” - just “who will pray for you?”
You probably caught this but in both, the piano plays the Hatchet Town riff at the end, and the “I’m not a loser” section quotes the lyrics/melody from “Cool As I Think I Am”
HYAAAHYAHA MWAH HAH evil cackles
Anyways I’m obsessed, these 2 assholes are so compelling, props to Angela and Will for their acting and singing, and JEFF BLIM YOU ARE A GENIUS

‘YOU TIED UP MY HEART’ IS A GOOD ASS SONG
I know it’s literally rated the second worst StarKid song ever but NO, I WILL DIE on the hill it’s overhated to HELL!!
I see four main reasons people hate it, (ALL VALID!!!! /gen) but not ones I agree with.
“Jeff Blim sings weird.” Yeah, he does. And that’s GOOD in my opinion! His voice isn’t something everyone likes, but his high swinging tone and his pitch shifts really itch my brain. ^^
“It’s weirdly choreographed.” Yeah, it’s a sexual scene for a lot of reasons - but I feel like if this upsets people, we shouldnt also be rating Dirty Girl so high since it’s most of the same moves but worse. The sexual element is important to the context here.
“It’s forgettable.” This is objective and I disagree, but I see why it’s a point. It’s sandwiched between a few large events and songs, and Sam himself wasn’t a super large focus at this part of the musical. I personally liked it a lot though, it’s an earworm. :)
”The lyrics are weird.” We’re throwing the ‘W’ word a lot, yeah? I think this is intention and does its purpose WELL. He’s trying a lot of strange private things to convince her, and it also adds to the fact this song is meant to be funny in most ways.

Nerdy Prudes Must Die; musical motifs
i have so many thoughts about Nerdy Prudes Must Die and specifically the musical motifs used throughout. so buckle up, i want to talk. (theres a whole breakdown under the cut.)
so, if you didn't know already, Jeff Blim is a musical genius. and in the Hatchetfield universe, theres so many musical motifs that get used in every show. but there's one in particular that i don't know what to call it, but i'm gonna say it's 'the nerds' theme'. it's this one right here;
i've heard some call it Pete's theme, which is wrong. this specific melody is the theme of Pete, Richie, and Ruth's self worth and their inescapable tragedies. when we meet the three friends, it's very obvious that they see themselves at the bottom of the high school food chain. the nerds have accepted that they are worthless and will amount to nothing in school, because that is where society has placed them. it's as simple as Pete's song Cool As I Think I Am. he very literally does not see himself as valuable as the other students. but when that idea shifts from Cool As I Think I Am to Cool As She Thinks I Am, suddenly we have Pete realising his self worth, and the motif shows up;
and right after that, Pete is beat up in a parking lot by Max Jägerman. Pete's own self worth can only go so far when you have people like Max denying it constantly.
so now there's lyrics to this motif, and yes, Pete is the first one to sing it. But that doesn't make it any less Ruth and Richie's.
just like Pete, Richie finds his self worth in the acceptance from others. Once Max is gone and Richie makes friends with the football team, he realises how great it is to be alive. he realises that he deserves to be alive.
when Max comes to kill him, Richie justifies his self worth with the motif that returns for him this time, not Pete;
now they're not his final words, but Richie dies after declaring, "I'm Not A Loser". when he finally gets some self worth, he is murdered and never gets to fulfil that worth.
Ruth's self worth is a little different. she views her worthlessness as unfair. she believes that if she was different, she could be something great. unlike Pete and Richie, Ruth really shows that she has bigger dreams. Ruth wants to be the star of the show. she wishes to be appreciated, and her ungodly horniess can honestly be seen as a metaphor for wanting to be loved. Ruth sings about her self worth in the most Ruth way, with her own number in the BBQ Monologues.
the climax of the song (which Lauren kills, btw) the motif comes back again in the background. This time, it's for Ruth and her self worth;
does the fact that Ruth's version of the motif doesn't include the 'im not a loser' lyrics have to do with Ruth having more belief in herself? that she doesn't need to explain she isn't a loser because she knows she isn't a loser and deserves to have a chance in the spotlight? i sure as hell think so.
but Max kills her immediately after. he stops her from ever living out her big dreams of being a star.
the motif comes back again, obviously, in the reprise of Cool As I Think I Am;
the lyrics change this time around, and Pete sings 'you have to do it', which is him telling Steph that she has to be the one to kill him. despite Pete learning how to have self worth throughout this whole show, he still views himself as expendable. could this be justified with the fact that his two best friends just had their hopes and dreams shattered in death? probably. the point is, at some point during Max's killing spree, the death of his best friends, and the summoning of the Lords in Black, Pete has managed to convince himself that he's worthless again.
now. in the end, it feels like a happy ending due to the nature of The Best of You, but there are still a lot of loose ends to be explored. and on top of all that, the Nerds' motif comes back one last time;
because Grace kept the Black Book and continued to use it, and the Lords in Black are far from fair, i think Pete's torment and tragic narrative is not over by the end of NPMD.
so yeah. Pete, Richie, and Ruth are 'doomed by the narrative', as are most people in Hatchetfield. but these three characters are specifically doomed by their own self worth, and the narrative will never let them truly become their true selves.
and Jeff Blim wrote a banger melody to tell that story.

how did you think of the musical performances in cinderellas castle?
Overall, I really enjoyed them! You can tell Jeff Blim wrote the music (I mean that as the highest compliment btw)
The solo/character focused numbers stood out more for me than the ensemble ones simply because I liked the sound more but I really did like them all. I have very few notes or critiques about the show as a whole and the musical numbers themselves are not one of them. I do think that Sir Hop-A-Lot and Crumb deserved either a duet or a trio song with Ella though, that would have been lovely to see. However, if that meant another song would have to be cut then I’d hesitate to say a song featuring them was super important.
I do think that Cinderella’s Castle is what Bad Cinderella wishes it was though 👀 the music is very lively and pop-rock inspired and the lyrics are very modern without being too on the nose or stereotypical. If you’re looking for a reference in terms of Blim’s other works, I’d say it’s a cross between Black Friday and Trail To Oregon, with the solos (Ella’s songs) leaning more towards BF and the ensemble numbers more towards TTO
Ella has an incredible solo in Act II that’s her Defying Gravity and it may be my favorite song out of the show. None of the songs are too “jokey” save for the song that introduces the Prince. The opening number, Castle on a Hill (the demo is on SK’s YouTube), sets the tone well for the rest of the show’s musical vibe and all of the songs showcase each actor’s vocal abilities very well., ESPECIALLY Bryce’s! I need the album asap! I’d love to do a more in-depth review of the music once it’s available or once I get the demo soundtrack in from the Kickstarter
Also, the band? Was incredible? The music itself is very good but having an entire band perform it live made it even better and the band members are so kind. I’m glad my audience appreciated them! Give them their flowers!

Watched Cinderella’s Castle and had a very underwhelming experience. Review and LONGGG rant under the cut.
Minor spoilers.
First of all, I thought the pacing was really, really bad. I also thought the tone of the story was really weird??
Obviously it’s Starkid, they love putting things in odd tones, but there was not one song or moment that really made me feel anything for these characters. In fact, the most I felt for any of them was Lauren’s throwaway cousin character, who was killed pretty much immediately.
This was not at all the fault of the performers, who were doing The Most with the script they were given. Performance-wise, in fact, it was very good. Aside from Jeff Blim, who honestly made me completely dislike him due to this show. I’m sure he’s a fine guy, but he constantly writes music for his falsetto which he seems very proud of but is …never… on pitch. I’ve grown increasingly bored with his score and lyric writing through Nightmare Time and this show was the embodiment of that.
The absolute worst part of the show was the incessant background music—something they carried over from Nightmare Time as if we enjoyed that. I certainly didn’t, it made Nightmare Time a tough watch for me. Plunky little notes like synth improv, absolutely separate in tone from the dialogue, plague every scene. This is especially bad in the second act to the point that I actively stopped trying to understand or care about the scene because the background music was suggesting that I shouldn’t. Keep in mind this was during what I think was an important exchange between Bryce and Curt’s characters. Honestly, I could not tell you. I don’t watch musicals with subtitles on so I can be surprised by dialogue and make it more akin to watching the performance live. This was a mistake. This was a long stretch of dialogue, too, completely nullified by the dumb background music. I mean, think Nightmare Time improv synth but with none of the recognizable motifs. That’s what it was. For almost the entire show.
As I mentioned, the music was again by Jeff Blim. I was worried when this was announced because of how boring, same, and uninspired his stuff has become, but I wanted to give it a chance. When it was announced as a pop rock musical, I got more pessimistic. I was unfortunately correct.
There are about 2 songs that I enjoyed, and one that was very good for the first 15ish seconds. Almost every song’s tone was completely wrong for the scene/what they were conveying. And not in a fun, we’re-doing-something-unconventional way, which Starkid has done really well in the past.
Angela fucking killed as the stepmother, but her singing range is very limited. Everyone knows this and that’s fine!! I’m begging Jeff to stop writing music for her that’s outside of her range. It’s not like they didn’t know who they would cast. I think it’s been stated that Starkid still have to audition for their roles, but with such a small cast I’m sure Nick/Jeff/Matt have an idea when they’re writing.
Mariah and Lauren did great performances as the stepsisters. I wasn’t expecting Lauren’s elf voice and thought that was a little off the mark. She still slayed, it’s Lauren.
The problem is, these characters had so little depth that none of them really had an arc at all. There was not much for the actors to do or build on to make me care about them. Let me be crystal clear: I LOVE STARKID. Fucking love it. Even I couldn’t give a fuck about anyone’s character in this show but Lauren’s throwaway character and Angela’s villain—and probably mostly because I’ve grown very fond of Angela’s acting and performance recently on Smosh.
I’m not saying anyone did a bad job. They did their best with what they had. My issue is entirely with the writing, the music writing particularly, and the pacing, which was god-awful.
Now, the puppets.
This was the part of the show I was most excited for. Starkid hasn’t done puppets for a while! And I loved the Starship puppets! Horror/weird looking puppets?? Sign me up!
Unfortunately, this also left a lot to be desired. I enjoyed the puppet for Crumb and the frog, and Joey is an especially EXCELLENT puppet actor. But the troll puppets were really lack-luster. Seeing the actresses so clearly beneath them, still in their elegant dresses when they were supposed to be fully these ugly monsters, was very immersion-breaking. Even attaching a dark cloth to them to hide their bodies and a screen over their faces would have done A LOT. This was really disappointing. So was the weird voice effect on Angela’s troll. Only because she was already doing a voice, and it was delayed just long enough for it to be jarring and disrupt my ability to follow what she was saying. (Fyi, I do not have any sort of processing disability or disorder.) Still, her performance was really great and I’m happy to see her in a main role.
I didn’t find James’ character charming or funny, which may be an acting thing or may be a writing thing, I’m not sure. I’ve never been a huge fan of his, and I found his interpretation of the character to be pretty bland and literal. I would have liked to see some hints of a real person under all the crude jokes the prince makes—but this is likely due to writing issues/tone issues.
Curt was great, there was not a lot for him to do. Kim SLAYYYYYYYED her song and it was the only one I really liked. But she did not act in this show and was really underutilized, as probably the most vocally talented person in the cast. JLB was not in this show, which I didn’t realize and was saddened by. I think she would have brought a great energy to it. Jon’s performance was sweet and he was obviously having a good time. Let the man sing more often. Bryce slayyyed the vocals but the acting was ehhh. Again, not a lot of depth. Her whole thing felt really rushed due to writing and pacing. The fact that I can’t remember if anyone else was even in this, without looking, is a little sad.
Overall I’m very disappointed. The tone, pacing, and background score were quite bad. The set design, music, and characterization was bland. The costume design was good—I found myself commenting on the outfits frequently. Some of the puppets were good, others confusing. After watching it, I’m really, really not excited about “The Lands That Are” and am terrified for another Hatchetfield wearing out its welcome.
In conclusion: To watch this for $15 is fine but I’m certainly glad I did not fly to see this in person, which I had considered doing. I will always support Starkid, but if they keep hiring Jeff for the music, I am going to continue the decline in passion I have for it, which started when Nightmare Time did. I’m hoping that they’re able to mix the background music to non-existent or extremely quiet in the YouTube version after enough feedback, and that the next musical is more inspired and—GOD—not fucking pop rock again.

I just got home from seeing closing night of Team Star Kid's new show, Cinderella's Castle.
I loved it! Wow it was so good!!
The set, the lighting, THE PUPPETRY.
As far as the story goes, this is one of the tightest shows Starkid has ever made for sure. Both me and my partner think this is one of the better Cinderella retellings we've ever seen.
The sound mixing was a bit off and basically every song was hard to understand and the singing got drowned out by the band. I'm hoping that can be fixed in the digital ticket/YouTube release, because from what I could tell the songs were great, very Jeff Blim lol, but I just couldn't parse a lot of the lyrics.
Random fun thing:
I sat next to Jon Matteson's girlfriend, she was absolutely lovely. And was asking us what all our starkid favorites were lol. I was absolutely cackling at Jon's character Sir Hop-a-Lot and I hope she didn't think I was crazy 😅
Overall I really loved the show and I can't wait to have the cast album and YouTube version. Honestly I will probably get the digital ticket too just so I can see once or twice more before the wait for YouTube begins lol.

I watched Starkid’s new musical Cinderella’sCastle. I have some thoughts:
- I’m very unimpressed by the music and lyrics. It’s possible the electro pop style isn’t for me; at least I definitely don’t think it works for a whole musical. It sounds too samey and very few of the songs are memorable. The lyrics feel slapdash and nonsensical a lot of the time. More importantly though…
- A lot of the live singing is very, very rough, especially all of the Narrator’s falsetto. Jeff Blim could make those notes sound okay with autotune in the demos (I actually really liked the demos), but he cannot hit the constant high notes at all in this filmed live performance. I should not be cringing at the vocals in a musical. That’s a big problem. I think he needs to either write to his actual vocal range or cast a different actor who can go that high and still sound clean live. I also think the stepfamily’s Facade song sounded really rough at parts, and I know those women are good singers, so maybe it’s the vocal direction and their character voices dragging them down.
- The book has problems with incorrect word usage, like the writers were trying so hard for fantasy dialogue and cadence that they forgot to make sure their sentences made sense. You and your forebears will rule there forevermore” is wrong. “Forebears” means “ancestors”. The word you meant to use is “descendants”. And the stepmother saying, “I worried you’d befallen some awful fate” is incorrect usage. It should be “I worried that some awful fate had befallen you”. Get a copy editor on that script! (I say this as nicely as possible. I know that I’m more sensitive to usage and grammar issues than most audience members because I am a copy editor, and I don’t usually correct people without being asked, but professional musical books don’t usually make these mistakes. Not a great look.)
- I agree with the reviews I’ve seen that say the book relies way too much on un-funny sex jokes and crudeness. I didn’t laugh once. And I’ve enjoyed and laughed at many a previous Starkid show, so that’s saying something. The prince specifically is deeply obnoxious, and not in a fun way. James Tolbert deserves better material.
- I dislike that the troll forms of the stepmother and stepsisters all look exactly alike. Make the stepmother puppet bigger, a different color, let her keep her wig or give her a funny hat, anything. She should stand out as the biggest and scariest troll. In general, a troll should feel larger than life; these troll puppets have no character. The actors are trying, but these puppets are stunting their great performances.
- Things I liked: The actors were all trying their hardest with rough material, and they did a great job. Bryce Charles has a great voice and makes for a likable lead, and I wish I could see her in a better show. I’m in love with Kim Whalen as usual. Sir Hops-a-lot and Crumb are adorable and everything Joey Richter does with his puppet characters is a delight. The costumes are nice!
- The adaptation of Cinderella is very predictable, of course, but there’s one twist on an element of the tale that’s extremely creative and I liked a lot (even if it gave the stepsister the theoretical power to foil Cinderella’s comeback just by taking off her shoes, which seems like a plot hole).
- The fairytale “East of the Sun, West of the Moon” already did the evil troll princess bit and did it better, and I wish that story would get adapted more often (and Cinderella a bit less often, LBR). Castle isn’t all bad, but I don’t think ALW has to worry- modern musical theatre has sadly still not given us a Good Cinderella.

Jeff Blim on the lyrics "there's gotta be something that'll keep my hands off you" sung by Davidson in TGWDLM. Had to ask cause I read a lot of fan interpretations about the lyrics. The answer is straightforward.

if you had a time machine and could go back in time to anyone writing any song, which one lyric would u force them to change, and bonus points: to what would you change it?
Hmmm, hard one... First thing coming to mind is I'd make Jeff Blim change "nowhere to turn" in High School Is Killing Me to "there's nowhere to run / for the class of 2021"

Send me a 🎧 and I will put my music on shuffle and give you a song and my favourite lyric from it
Workin’ Girls Medley - Mariah Rose Faith Casillas, Bryce Charles, Angela Giarratana, Lauren Lopez, Virginia Vass, Kim Whalen, & Jeff Blim
“A sprinkling of Bermuda! We watered it everyday. With some elbow grease and can-do-ya, our field was ready for play.”
I love Mariah’s vocals there!

Wait, I might just make it. I found my second wind. The pain's not bad I can take it. I think I can hold it in. Help me to my feet. You will have to carry me. No! Put me down. My limbs are growing weak. Is this the end I seek?

Every time I hear the line 'god let my brush strokes become interwoven, keep me alive, clarified and unbroken, let me ascend into steady emotion, give me the strength against all my erosion' my soul leaves my body,,,, what a powerful line, IM SO FUCKING ALIVE
