Page 1 & 3. ---- Two Youthful Bandits May Have Used Dummy Guns At Oakalla. --- PRISON OFFICIALS HAD BEEN WARNED ---- Guards and Police Constable Forced to Lie on Office Floor. --- VICTORIA, March 6 - Attorney-General R. H. Pooley announces he has not yet had an opportunity to discuss the Oakalla Jail break with heads of the provincial police force, but will do so during the day. Until then, he has nothing to say regarding the prospect of an official investigation. --- ONE of the most dramatic jail Columbia occurred at 7 p.m. Thursday at Oakalla Prison Farm when Ellis Wilcox, 21, and Fraser McDougall, 25, hold-up men, suddenly produced revolvers with which they cowed two guards, and escaped.

The break took place when Wilcox and McDougall were in the jail office while en route to their cells from the Assize Court in Vancouver. Wilcox was found not guilty on a charge of robbery with violence. McDougall was found guilty on one charge Wednesday, and both men were awaiting trial on other charges. Wilcox was defended by Mr. Walter Owen, son of Mr. Walter Owen, warden of Oakalla Jail,

Possibility that the revolvers were "dummies" is being investigated, for it is known that Wilcox while in Vancouver jail awaiting hearing was found in possession of a revolver cleverly carved from a bar of soap. It was covered with tinfoil and at a distance had all the appearance of the real article. 

Oakalla officials had been warned by Vancouver police that Wilcox and McDougall were desperate, the former having been known to have planned a break from the city jail on several occasions.

VAN UNGUARDED: PRISONERS LEFT ALONE. Provincial police state that both men were searched on their arrival from the Oakalla jail at the Courthouse, and again before they left the building to return to prison. The officers are satisfied that guns were not passed to the prisoners during their stay in the Courthouse. Both men were under constant police supervision.

It has since developed, however, that the police van in which Wilcox and McDougall were returned to Oakalla stood unguarded outside the police of offices. Friends of the prisoners, it is believed, could have easily entered the van and secreted guns to be picked up by the prisoners. The latter were handcuffed together. The officers, including driver and escort, out in front. The prisoners had the main portion of the car to themselves.

Police have been unable to find any trace of the men. They are believed to be hiding in Vancouver. Officers are searching for a man from Seattle who received permission to visit both Wilcox and McDougall in jail at Oakalla. GUN TAKEN FROM VICTORIA CONSTABLE Good luck favored the bandits As they were preparing to leave the prison office, where they had forced Guards W. Brown and C. Rutledge to lie on the floor, there came a knock on the door. 

Wilcox took the keys from Guard Brown while McDougall brandished two revolvers at the prone, men Wilcox walked along the hall to the door and admitted Constable W. Andrews of the Victoria police force, who was bringing In a prisoner. 

"Stick 'em up," he commanded as the constable, prisoner and William Shaw, 3434 Dundas street, taxi-driver. stepped inside the door. 

The bandit calmly took Constable Andrew revolver and marched the three men into the office where they were forced to lie down beside the guards.

PRISONER REFUSES TO BE RESCUED. "Shall we take this bird' with us?” McDougall asked as they were preparing to escape. 

“Nothing doing I'm only in for two months," the prisoner from Victoria said. 

The holdup men then forced the taxi-driver, under the threat of four revolvers, to drive them into Vancouver. As they were speeding along Kingsway, Constable A. Jeffery of Burnaby police force signaled them to stop, but Shaw, mindful of the revolvers trained on him, kept going.

 Constable Jeffery commandeered a passing car and gave chase, but the bandit car escaped from sighs near the corner of Twenty-second avenue and Rupert street. 

The tax-driver reported to police afterwards that he was forced to drive up and down several streets in the East End and Grandview districts. Near the corner of First avenue and Semlin drive one of the bandits pumped out of the car while his companion ordered Shaw to "keep going". 

BANDITS HAD CAR READY FOR ESCAPE A few moments later a car drove alongside and the second bandit jumped from the taxi into it. The machine then sped away. Burnaby and Vancouver police warned of the jail break while the men were still speeding along Kingsway had every officer on the lookout but failed to find any trace of the escaped prisoners.

MAN IN PARKED CAR ORDERED TO DRIVE ON. A. E. Welch, 2561 Alma road, reported to police that he was seated in an auto In the 2000 block, Graveley street. shortly before a pin. when a young man corresponding to the description of McDougall accosted him Producing a revolver, the man ordered him to drive on.

Welch replied that he could not drive and the thug ran to a car parked behind it. He stepped into the car. which was later reported as the property of C. Hill, 306 East Twenty-sixth. and drove away. 

Hill's car was recovered shortly before 11 pm. In the unit block East Sixth where it had been abandoned by the bandits.

The jail break occurred just after Wilkes and McDougall had been returned to the prison from Vancouver where they appeared in Assize Court. The escorting officers, Corp. R. Simms and Constable H. Greenhough of the provincial police, had turned the men over to the guards and left for Vancouver.

"I started to take the men back to the cell block," Guard Brown declared. "As we were going up the corridor 1 felt something pressed against my back and heard Wilces say, 'Stick 'em up'. 

At the same time, Guard Rutledge declared, McDougall turned back into the office and covered him with two revolvers. A jury of twelve men, after two hours deliberation on Thursday after- noon, found Wilcox not guilty of holding up S. Nakamoto, Japanese proprietor of a tailor shop at 441 at Hastings, on December 1, and robbing him of $8. The defense was an alibi.

Wilcox was defended by Mr. Walter Owen. Mr. R. L. Reid. KO, prosecuted.

Dorktown: Why didn’t the NFL want Rueben Randle?

The Giants’ Rueben Randle was an overachieving wideout who elevated his quarterback’s numbers. At just 24, he seemed to have a long career ahead of him. But then, for reasons we can’t explain … he never played again.

The New York Giants invested a second-round pick on LSU wide receiver Rueben Randle in the 2012 NFL Draft. He had a relatively anonymous rookie season as his team’s No. 4 receiver behind Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks, and Domenik Hixon.

The next year, Hixon signed with Carolina and Randle moved up a rung as Big Blue’s No. 3 wideout, and he responded with over 600 receiving yards while scoring six touchdowns. That was better production than any other No. 3 wideout in the league outside of Jerricho Cotchery and Wes Welker (who, like Randle, was catching passes from a Manning bro – only Welker’s was league MVP). In fact, the Giants’ youngster had a stronger season than the majority of the league’s No. 2 WRs:

In the 2014 offseason, they said goodbye to Nicks and drafted Randle’s former teammate in Baton Rouge, a fella by the name of Odell Beckham Jr. A torn patellar tendon suffered by Cruz in Week 6 created a larger role for Randle, and he responded with over 900 receiving yards, which trailed only T.Y. Hilton and Alshon Jeffery among his fellow 2012 draft classmates. It also would’ve led the Saints, Titans, Chiefs, Dolphins, Chargers, Cardinals, Seahawks, Browns, Rams, Vikings, Raiders, and Jaguars:

That brings us to 2015, the final year of Randle’s rookie contract. In that season, Randle produced a tick under 800 receiving yards and was one of just 20 wideouts to haul in at least eight scores. The average NFL pass attempt during the 2015 season gained 7.3 yards; the average pass attempt that came Rueben Randle’s way yielded 8.9 yards.

When that outstanding 8.9 yards per target is combined with his 8 receiving touchdowns, he joined a group of just 10 other players that hit both those marks that year. To join such a limited club at something as fundamentally relevant for a wide receiver as efficiently generating yardage and finding the end zone’s certainly nothing to sneeze at. Here are the 137 players that were targeted on at least 50 passes in 2015. Randle’s in blue, the only others with as many yards per target and receiving TDs — a list constituted by the likes of Antonio Brown, Julio Jones, A.J. Green, Gronk, and Randle’s star teammate, Beckham — in green:

His passer rating that season across the 90 times he threw to Randle was 102.9, a number that was a bit better than Tom Brady’s 2015 passer rating. But on his 528 non-Randle passes, that figure plummeted nearly 11 points to 92.0, a number that was a bit worse than Jay Cutler’s 2015 passer rating:

Randle emerged from this season primed to hit the open market as an unrestricted free agent in March 2016, alongside fellow wide receivers such as Cincinnati’s Marvin Jones and Mohamed Sanu.

With all three operating in similar roles as secondary wideouts on teams with a superstar (Beckham, A.J. Green) leading the pack, Randle more than doubled Sanu’s receiving yardage total with the two Bengals combining for half as many TDs as Randle (while Randle generated about a yard more per target than both Sanu and Jones):

Let’s use fantasy points — with [(touchdowns x 6) + (yards from scrimmage x 0.1)] being their applicable formula for 2015 — as a loose indicator of productivity (which also enables Sanu to get credit for his couple rushing scores) to see the relationship between that and their ensuing contracts in 2016 free agency:

Within the first 24 hours of free agency, large deals were given to Sanu and Jones that had a combined value north of $70 million with over $34 million in guarantees. A full two weeks into free agency, Randle settled for a 1-year, $3 million contract with the Eagles that included just $500,000 in guarantees.

For reasons that lack a whole lot of clarity, Randle’s Eagles contract was just a drop in the bucket to what Sanu and Jones extracted from the Falcons and Lions, respectively. The discrepancy of how much more productive Randle was in his contract year combined with his guarantees amounting to a minuscule fraction of Sanu/Jones’ is nothing short of glaring.

Sanu’s stunning proficiency as a passer on gadget plays from prior years aside, Atlanta paid him handsomely for what he can do as a wide receiver. And the bottom line is that to this day, two of Randle’s four career seasons were more productive than any of Sanu’s eight career seasons, despite the latter moving on to play with an MVP quarterback in Georgia.

Randle also had zero medical red flags, having never missed even a single game in any of his four seasons; that’s juxtaposed against Jones who’d missed the entire 2014 season with foot and ankle problems.

And whereas Randle’s QB performed much better when throwing to him vs. not throwing to him, it was the opposite in Cincy:

Granted, Randle then had what was surely an underwhelming offseason and preseason in Philly. Having made a minimal financial investment in him, the Eagles decided to go another direction, cutting him in August ... and no one ever picked him up heading into the 2016 regular season.

No one even gave him a shot amid the non-stop roster churn during the season when players’ injuries and ineffectiveness have teams making constant personnel changes. Regardless of how lousy someone may look in the summer, that kind of regular season résumé has always led to, at the very least, a low-risk flier from someone at some point when the games become real. For the entire season, that never happened.

The Bears did sign him the following offseason, but they placed him on injured reserve with a hamstring ailment during the preseason before releasing him from his contract a few weeks later. The 2017 season came and went, again without Randle ever latching on to a 53-man roster for even a single week, which effectively ended his career.

Its final chapter -- that 2015 season -- saw him join just nine other players in reaching 700 receiving yards and 8 receiving touchdowns in their last season (with the circumstances behind their exit from the game listed):

Eight of those nine had their NFL careers end either voluntarily or via injury or arrest. The only other player to be so productive and then have his career end against his will while healthy and lacking legal entanglements was Terrell Owens.

And here’s the huge, obvious difference: age. Owens turned 37 during that season (to say nothing of his decade-long reputation as a distraction). Randle’s final year occurred at the still-extremely-tender age of 24. It’s that precocious youthfulness that really makes this especially bizarre.

All of the other nine players were at least four years older in their final season than was Randle. Not only has no player his age or younger for their final year in the NFL ever posted as many receiving yards or touchdowns as Randle did, but since 1970’s AFL-NFL merger, no one that young for their swan song has even had a particularly comparable season, as we can see with fantasy production being used as a barometer:

And Randle’s still the only one of them whose career ended for reasons other than injury or legal entanglements. On top of suiting up for each of his team’s 64 games while under contract, his seemingly worst relevant transgression as a human being was arriving late to a meeting in 2014, leading to clock colonel Tom Coughlin benching him for the 1st quarter of a November game in Jacksonville.

It’s theoretically possible that he had potential opportunities after his Chicago stint and wasn’t interested at that point. It’s unlikely, but for the sake of argument even if that were the case, that wouldn’t make how the contractual events of the 2016 offseason unfolded any less mystifying.

He’s been criticized at points for things such as route running or drops. But any sort of shortcomings in these areas would be reflected and accounted for in his yards per target and/or his quarterback’s passer rating when throwing to him. And as we’ve already seen, he still passed those metrics with flying colors.

Regardless, one can still believe he wasn’t quite as good as the numbers might suggest. That’s fine. But he wasn’t so much worse that he shouldn’t have taken the spot of one of these 180 wide receivers who occupied the NFL’s 53-man rosters as the 2016 season kicked off:

Carroll Curtis,  83

Mrs. Carroll Gerber Curtis, age 83 of Millers Creek passed away Sunday, November 10, 2019 at her home.

           Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, November 14, 2019 at  St. Johns Baptist de LaSalle Catholic Church with Father John Hannic officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:45 until 10:45 AM prior to the service at the church

           Mrs. Curtis was born December 23, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan to Milton Fredrick and Irene Helen Webster Gerber.  She served in the United States Air Force and was a member of St.  John's Catholic Church.

           In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband; Adrian Alvin Curtis and a sister; Lonah Greene.

           She is survived by two daughters; Maria Curtis of North Wilkesboro, Suzanne Hanlin and husband William of Millers Creek, three sons; Patrick Curtis and wife Dawn, Gregory Curtis and wife Stephanie Curtis all of Rutland, VT and Michael Curtis of Pittsburgh, PA, eight grandchildren; Sean, Alex, Quinn, Caden Curtis, Chelsea Centurioni, Erin Jones, Kyle and Jessie Hanlin, three great grandchildren; Sawyer, Samuel and Cassandra

 Rosa Rhoades, 87

Mrs. Rosa Lea Blevins Rhoades, age 87 of North Wilkesboro, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.

           Funeral services were November 12,   at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church with Rev. Travis Brown and Rev. Brian Auton officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.  

           Mrs. Rhoades was born February 16, 1932 in Wilkes County to Elmore Blevins and wife Epsie Wood Blevins. She retired from the furniture manufacturing business where she worked as a seamstress. Mrs. Rhoades was a member of Rose of Sharon Baptist Church.

           In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; John L. Rhoades, a son; Johnny Lee Rhoades, three sisters; Beulah Mae Perry, Bertha Lou Triplette and Jean Burchette and three brothers; AC (Tump) Blevins, Aldean Blevins and James Fred Blevins.  

           She is survived by two sons; Steven G. Rhoades and wife Vicki of Wilkesboro and Alan Eugene Rhoades and wife Betty of North Wilkesboro, five grandchildren; Carrie Mesinger of Illinois, Luke Rhoades of New York, Jason Rhoades of California, Derek Rhoades of North Wilkesboro and Nicholas Rhoades of California, eight great grandchildren, two step grandchildren; John Ansel Brown and Joseph Matthew Brown, two brothers; Ralph Blevins of Traphill and Marcus Blevins of Hays and a special caregiver; Ellen Irwin.

 Jimmie Walsh, 69

Mr. Jimmie Ray Walsh, age 69 of Wilkesboro, passed away Friday, November 8, 2019 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem.

           Burial was in Scenic Memorial Gardens.

           Mr. Walsh was born September 13, 1950 in Wilkes County to Zeb Clifton "Clifford" Walsh and Minnie Glass Walsh. He was Self-Employed as a Mechanic.

           He was preceded in death by his parents and a son; Timmie Dean Walsh.

           Mr. Walsh is survived by a sister; Linda Ayre and husband Bill of Evans, Georgia,

daughter- in- law; Heather B. Walsh of Wilkesboro, three grandchildren; Lindsay, Holly and Riley Walsh.

William Owens, 83

William Roger Owens, age 83, of North Wilkesboro, passed away Sunday at his home. Mr. Owens was born October 10, 1936 in Wilkes County to William Howard and Eula Crysel Owens. He was a member of Union United Methodist Church. Mr. Owens enjoyed gardening, truck driving and football. He loved to watch the Atlanta Braves baseball games. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Linda Bumgarner Owens; brothers, C.P. Owens and wife Betty, Calvin Hubert Owens; sister, Reba Mozelle "Cricket" Beshears; niece, Leigh Ann Owens; nephew, Robert Allen Beshears; and great niece, Jamie Crutchfield.

Surviving are his girlfriend, Marlene Ashley of Moravian Falls; sister, Geraldine Owens Miller and spouse Lloyd of Millers Creek; brother, William Howard "Junior" Owens and spouse Carol of Moravian Falls; step-son, Billy J. Howell and spouse Landa of Millers Creek; several nieces and nephews; several great nieces and great nephews.

           Funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at Union United Methodist Church with Rev. Derick Hodges and Rev. Sonny Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Union United Methodist Church from 2:00 until 3:00 on Wednesday, prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted. Memorials may be made to Union United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 2257 Boone Trail, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659 or to the family.

 Orman Walls, 74

Orman Paul Walls, age 74, of Wilkesboro, passed away Friday, November 8, 2019 at his home. He was born December 18, 1944 in Lincoln  County, West Virginia to James Franklin and Ollie Gaynell Wheeler Walls. Orman worked at General Motors in Detroit, Michigan and as a maintenance man at Fox Hollow Apartments in High Point, NC. Mr. Walls was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, David, Jerry and Allen Walls; sister-in-law, Phyllis Walls.

           He is survived by his brothers, Jimmie "Roger" Walls of Wilkesboro, Ricky Walls and spouse Gwendolyn of Hamlin, West Virginia, Doug Walls and fiancee Roxanne of High Point; niece, Lisa Holler and spouse Allen; daughter, Paula Flowers; sons, Teddy Walls and Patrick Walls.

           Memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Miller Funeral Chapel with Rev. Allen Holler officiating. Miller Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.  

 Betty Church, 89

Mrs. Betty Huffman Church, age 89 of Ferguson passed away Friday, November 8, 2019 at her home.

           Funeral services  were November 10,  at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Reach Center with Pastor Kevin Brown officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.  

           Mrs. Church was born December 26, 1929 in Wilkes County to Everette Monroe and Selma Eller Huffman.  She retired from Wilkes County School System as a Secretary at Mt. Pleasant Elementary School and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.        

           In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by five sisters; Ruth Brown, Charlotte Greene, Maxine Church, Kate Huffman and Loretta Estes and four brothers; Wayne Huffman, Ray Huffman, N.C.Huffman and Loyd Huffman

           She is survived by her husband; Edwin Church of the home, a daughter; Teresa Church Bynum and husband Clancy of Ferguson, a son; Dwight E. Church and wife Loretta of North Wilkesboro, a granddaughter; Sarah Elizabeth Church, a sister; Patricia Minton of Wilkesboro, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews

Wade Miller,  84

Wade Albert Miller, age 84, of Wilkesboro, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at SECU Hospice Home in Yadkinville. Mr. Miller was born August 27, 1935 in Ashe County to Joe Henry and Cordie Bowlin Miller. Wade was a member of Calvary Freewill Baptist Church in Glendale Springs. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Sebert, Gilbert, Delmer, Robert, Ward and Henry Miller.

           Surviving are his wife, Dare Barnes Miller; Son, Jeffery Miller and spouse Janet of Purlear; daughters, Janet Triplett and spouse Jerry and Joann Miller all of Purlear; grandchildren, Jessica Bryant and spouse Scott of North Wilkesboro, Heather Powell and spouse Nick of Purlear, Brittany Barger and spouse Frank of Troutman, Renee Walker of Wilkesboro, Aaron Walker of Purlear, Amy Miller and fiancé Justin Jones of Charlotte; great grandchildren, Noah Powell, Preston Powell both of Purlear, Kaylee Bryant, Riley Bryant both of North Wilkesboro, Sophia Denny of Purlear; sisters, Shirley Jones of Glendale Springs, Faye Dixon of China Grove, NC, Evazell Kilby of West Jefferson; several nieces and nephews.

           Funeral service was November 9,  at Calvary Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Russell Sheets and Rev. Sonny Thomas officiating. Burial  followed in the church cemetery.   Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to SECU Hospice Care Center of Yadkin, 243 North Lee Avenue, Yadkinville, NC 27055.  Elizabeth Golden 99

Mrs. Elizabeth Martin Golden, age 99 of North Wilkesboro passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at Westchester Manor in High  Point.

           Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with Rev. Keith Knox, Rev. James Ferguson, Rev. Ronald Howell and Dr. Terry Hunt officiating.  Burial will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:30 to 12:30 PM prior to the service at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

           Mrs. Golden was born September 14, 1920 in Wilkes County to Henry and Lula  Alexander Martin. She was a member of the First Baptist Church Main Street and attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.  She was a member of the Eastern Star, she loved needlepoint, gardening, her grandchildren, family and friends. She loved cooking, and was best known for her apple pie and always had an open door.

           In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband; Charles Jerry Golden, a daughter; Carolyn Golden, two grandsons; Reginald and Chase, two sisters; Stella Hunter and Pludia Martin and one brother; Earl Campbell.

           She is survived by four daughters; Linda Habershaw and husband Robert of Roaring Rover, Marilynne Bailey of North Wilkesboro, Kathy Turner of North Wilkesboro and Penny Golden of Elkin, two sons; Walter Golden of North Wilkesboro and Charles Lee Golden and wife Sandra of Lawton, OK , ten grandchildren; Diedra, Timothy, Larry, Aaron, Charles, Ineke, Damon, Micah. Christopher and Jessica, thirteen great grandchildren; Amanda, Doug, Trey, Jordyn, Sydney, Embry, Sierra, Sienna, Rowyn, Elijah, Cameron, Dutch and Harper and one sister; Virginia Miller and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.

Susan McManus,  75

Susan E. (Knam) McManus, age 75, of Wilkesboro, passed away Monday, November 4, 2019 at Wake Forest Baptist Health-Wilkes Regional. She was born May 20, 1944 in Flushing, New  York to Justus H. and Mary E. Fernsler Knam. Mrs. McManus was a graduate of North Haven High School in 1962; a graduate of Virginia Intermont AA in 1963; a graduate from High  Point College in 1967 with a Bachelor's Degree in Teaching. She was a member of St. John Baptist de LaSalle Catholic Church and the choir. Her hobbies were her grandchildren.

           Susan is survived by her husband of 46 years, Henry S. McManus; her son, Brian McManus and spouse Traci of Wilkesboro; step-sons, David McManus and spouse Sibrey of Novi, Michigan, Michael G. McManus of Reno, Nevada; grandchildren, Sydney, Payton and Addison McManus all of Wilkesboro; Sibrey Alexis and Troy D. McManus both of Novi, Michigan.

           Funeral mass will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 16, 2019 at St. John Baptist de LaSalle Catholic Church with Father John Hanic officiating. An ice cream social will be held immediately the service. Flowers will be accepted. Memorials may be made to Duke Children's Hospital and Health Center for Cancer patients at 300 West Morgan  Street, Suite 1200, Durham, NC 27701. Ruth McCachren, 87

Mrs. Ruth Brooks McCachren, age 87 of North Wilkesboro, passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2019 at Wake Forest Baptist Wilkes Medical Center.

           Funeral services were November 11, at Reins Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Snipes officiating. Burial will be in Scenic Memorial Gardens.  

           Mrs. McCachren was born February 23, 1932 in Richmond County to Thomas Joshua  Brooks and Lola Wallace Brooks. She was retired from the Wilkes County School System. Mrs. McCachren was a member of North Wilkesboro Presbyterian Church.

           In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; William Barnette McCachren, Sr. and a daughter; Myra O'Neil McCachren Carrigan.

           She is survived by two sons; William Barnette McCachren, Jr. and Matthew Scott McCachren both of North Wilkesboro, two grandchildren; Roseann Dixon and Jennifer Carrigan and three sisters; Rebecca Brooks Blackwelder of Mooresville, Norma Funderburk of Monroe and Myra Gray of Concord.

James Stanley, 71

Mr. James Paul Stanley, age 71 of North Wilkesboro, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2019.

           Graveside services  were November 9, at Salisbury National Cemetery.

           Mr. Stanley was born January 11, 1948 in Wilkes County. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Mr. Stanley worked in the Mobile Home business and was a member of Yadkin Valley Baptist Church.

           He was preceded in death by two brothers; Harold Stanley and Dean Stanley.

           Mr. Stanley is survived by his former wife; Nancy Karen James Stanley of North Wilkesboro and two sons; Mark Stanley of Roaring River and Kelly Stanley and wife Iva of North Wilkesboro.

Dina Benge, 84

Mrs. Dina "Mae'  Bumgarner Benge, age 84 of Ferguson, passed away Sunday, November 03, 2019 at Forsyth Medical Center.

           Funeral services were November 6,  at Lewis Fork Baptist Church with Rev. Dwayne Andrews and Rev. Sherrill Welborn officiating.   Burial was in the church cemetery.  

           Mrs. Benge was born November 8, 1934 in Wilkes County to Harry Delbert and Veoria Elledge Bumgarner. She was a homemaker and a faithful member of Lewis Fork Baptist Church for almost 50 years. Mae was well known as The Walnut Lady. She always thought of others before herself and took care of others before herself.

           In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; Harley Jackson Benge and a son: Randy Jackson Benge.

           She is survived by a daughter; Darlene Benge Roberson and husband Donald of Hays, two sons; Ricky Benge and wife Davina of Ferguson and Robin Benge and wife Dian of Charlotte, a daughter in law; Debra Benge of Ferguson, ten grandchildren; Jacob Norris and wife Julia of Knoxville, Tenn., Brenna Roberson Wood and husband Thomas of Roaring River, Matthew Roberson and wife Julie of Hays, Samantha Benge of Georgia,  R.J Benge of Ferguson, Penny Souther and husband Tracy of Ferguson, Brett Benge and wife Brittany of North Wilkesboro, Morgan Davis and husband Christopher of Raleigh, Daniel Benge of Charlotte and Paiton Benge of Charlotte, ten great grandchildren; Jonah Norris, Ethan Benge, Serenity Benge, Ashtan Benge, Mollee Benge, Paisley Benge, Amber Souther, Laura Souther, Aiden Davis and Wyatt Davis, three sisters; Betty Jones of Ferguson, Bert Dockery of Ferguson and Nancy Craven of Ferguson and a brother; Ronald Jones of Charlotte.

Henry Alexander Gonzales Rodriguez, age 27, of North Wilkesboro, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2019. He was born March 11, 1992 in Lima Cortes, Honduras to Isandra Francisca Pineda Soriano.

           Surviving are his girlfriend, Silvia Juares; sons, Steven Gonzales; Rossel Matute, Kricia Matute, Lester Pineda; his mother, Isandra Pineda of Honduras; sisters, Raquel Pineda, Reina Pineda of Honduras; brothers, Gustavo Pineda of Honduras, Rossel Matute, brother's-in-law, Juan Carlos Juares, Marco Pineda, Antonio Pineda; sister-in-law, Zeilyn Pineda; father-in-law, Marcos Pineda; mother-in-law, Blacina Sierra; and aunt, Marina Pineda.
