wc: 700
a/n: thank you so much for requesting!! yes i do write for jess!! one of my fave bfs other than james potter and gilbert blythe. they’re all so<33  i’m absolutely obsessed with the grumpy x sunshine trope rn and jess with that seems perfect so that’s what im gonna write about if thats ok!!
⋆ ࣪.      ⁺⑅     ⋰˚     *.゚    .˳⁺⁎˚     ˚⁎⁺˳ .    ༺ ˖
jess has always been the bad boy of stars hollow since he moved. that is a fact. and when he meets you it completely throws him off because how can someone be so happy and sweet, and so beautiful at the same time?
obviously he’s not known for being optimistic… so when you meet him while working at luke’s, you try to make it your personal mission to have jess smile at least once a shift
luke thinks it’s great that you two have to work together because jess badly needs a good influence, and you’ve known luke since you were young so you’re completely and entirely trusted with the shop when luke goes fishing and whatever
jess is astounded
and then the way you treat the customers
even kirk likes you- he thinks you’re a wonderful break from whatever the hell luke’s attitude is
you’ve memorized everyone’s regular orders and never fail to serve someone without a smile on your face
at first it kinda pissed jess off tbh because he thinks it’s an act and not genuine
but as he gets to know you better he realizes that you’re just a really lovely sunshiney person no matter what, and hey, maybe you’re rubbing off on him a bit after all
one time he leaves his book at the counter while he’s on a break and you run up to the apartment to give it to him, even though there’s a backlog of customers
“you forgot your book downstairs”
he kind of stares at you, a smile creeping up
“thanks”
“you’re welcome”
more awkward pauses
“you should really use a bookmark, you know, it’s bad for the pages if you bend them like that”
“you read?”
“yeah. you should really start a new book, though. that one had a super unsatisfying ending”
“oh yeah?”
that’s when everything changes for him
the next shift he comes to work on your day off and you’ve left him a small package beside the coffee machine with his name in cursive on it
it’s a book
your handwriting is inside the front cover with a little note to him
‘for jess, this is my favorite book, don’t bend the pages please :)’
and then there’s a homemade bookmark
from then on you guys start trading books
and he starts smiling at you more
you guys get closer and more attached, working perfectly in sync at the diner- you’ll have the fries done at the same time he’s grilled a burger, so that everything stays warm for the customers
jess also starts doing more little things for you: wiping down the counter, helping clean up so you can go home earlier, giving you all the tips in the tip jar even though technically he deserves half
until one day you come into work late, eyes rimmed with red, furiously blinking tears away
he’s never seen you like this, so obviously he has to fix it
because you’re y/n l/n. you’re the sunshine of stars hollow
lorelai and rory are there, and so he asks lorelai to help man the coffee
jess takes you upstairs to his room, away from prying eyes, and asks you what’s wrong, cause he can tell
you just burst into tears
“hey hey hey, you’re okay, what’s wrong?”
cue protective jess.
through the tears you tell him how you’re overwhelmed with school, homework, the pressure to get into a good university, and how you feel like you’re supposed to handle it all by yourself
jess knows it’s not the time for wisecracks
so he wipes away the tears from your cheeks and listens as you talk
when you’ve calmed down, you hug him as a thank you
jess has never really been hugged before. luke and his mom aren’t very affectionate, especially physically
when you finally pull away, his touch lingers
and you kiss him on the cheek very quickly
that’s when jess knows you’re the one
you’ll always be his sunshine, even through both of your worst moments
and he knows he’s going to spend the rest of his life with you, and devote his days to hearing you laugh
but that’s a story for another time
i hope you like this!! thanks so much for requesting, sorry if this got a bit long or if it’s not what you're looking for. likes and reblogs are appreciated! <33

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ᴊᴇꜱꜱ ᴍᴀʀɪᴀɴᴏ — ᴛʜᴇ ʙʟᴀᴄᴋ ᴄᴀᴛ ʙᴏʏꜰʀɪᴇɴᴅ
♠  Jess is the black cat boyfriend no debate
♠  his favourite activities are browsing bookstores in New York to find the most ridiculous books and having movie nights at with home-made pizza
♠  his gifts are usually consist of annotated books and/or CD’s he’s burned for you
♠  so touch starved, like so touch starved, his love language is definitely physical touch
♠  would do just about anything if you just bat your eyelashes at him
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ᴘᴀʀɪꜱ ɢᴇʟʟᴇʀ — ᴛʜᴇ ꜰɪᴇʀᴄᴇ ɢɪʀʟꜰʀɪᴇɴᴅ
♦  study dates, study dates, study dates
♦  probably mistook your flirting for picking a fight until Rory told her that you were flirting with her or you just straight up told her you wanted to kiss
♦  loves to do things for you just because, carrying your bags, making you coffee/tea when you working, because you deserve to be pampered, her love language is acts of service no doubt in my mind
♦  when it comes to gift giving it’s usually offhanded like, “Yeah I saw it in the store and bought it, no big deal.”
♦  she’s pretty stubborn so getting her to do things is hard but she ends up doing them because it’s you, and she would do anything for even if she complains 70% of the time
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ʟᴏɢᴀɴ ʜᴜɴᴛᴢʙᴇʀɢᴇʀ — ᴛʜᴇ ᴀᴅᴠᴇɴᴛᴜʀᴏᴜꜱ ʙᴏʏꜰʀɪᴇɴᴅ
♣  he takes you to so many places, sometimes it’s places he’s been other times he spotted a new restaurant on his way and he decides to take you there next time the two of you go out.
♣  his favourite thing to do is go shopping for you, particularly enjoys buying you clothes and accessories and then seeing you wear them
♣  Logan’s love language is definitely gif giving, and more often than not the gift are expensive (read: birkin bag.)
♣  whenever he plans dates it’s the out there stuff he thinks you’ll enjoy doing, but he doesn’t mind having dinner at home with a good movie or some music either
♣ he would also do anything for you, even the things you ask him to do halfheartedly or jokingly
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ʀᴏʀʏ ɢɪʟᴍᴏʀᴇ — ᴛʜᴇ ᴋɪɴᴅ ɢɪʀʟꜰʀɪᴇɴᴅ
♥  her favourite kinds of dates are the calm ones, like browsing bookstores and going to museums
♥  she loves to sit with you on the couch until ungodly hours just talking about random things or having deep conversations, although the ones about the future are her favourites
♥  love language is words of affirmation, mainly because growing up Lorelai thought her how important communication is in all her relationships
♥   Rory doesn’t really like dates in crowded places, she enjoys the occasional concert or outing to a busy place, but low-key dates will always be superior in her opinion
♥ getting her to do something she doesn’t want to is impossible, she’s very stubborn and when she doesn’t want to do something it’s very hard to convince her to do it

Sleepless without you
Jess Mariano x reader
--------------˖⁺‧₊˚♡˚₊‧⁺˖---------------
story: your boyfriend Jess wakes you up in the middle of the night cause he can't fall asleep, he's too busy thinking about you
--------------˖⁺‧₊˚♡˚₊‧⁺˖---------------
It´s 3 am and Jess lies awake in his bed. Every time he closes his eyes, he sees your face before his eyelids. He turns around in bed, but he can't get you out of his mind. Jess sighs, thinking about you all the time without you with him is driving him crazy!
When he dropped you off at your house at 10pm, you said you were super tired, so he didn't want to ask you if he could stay over. So he had decided to go to bed early himself too, but now he couldn't find any sleep no matter what he tried. Dammit! One thing was clear, despite of what he had set out to do he just had to see you!
A few minutes later, he had crept to your house in the dark of night and was now standing in front of your window. He knocks, at first gently, then louder.
"Y/n", he whispers your name and fervently hopes you hear him and have not yet fallen into a deep sleep. After a while he hears noises in your room and you open the window a crack.
"Jess?", your sleepy voice couldn't sound any sweeter to Jess and he starts to grin "Yes, it's me babe, as I live and breathe"
You open the window all the way to let him in and he doesn't let a second pass before he joins you in your room.
"What are you doing here?" you ask confused, "I thought we were both going to bed early?" Jess pulls his left leg through the window and is immediately right in front of you, he puts his hands on your hips and gives you a quick kiss on the cheek. "Change of plans, I guess."
"Oh nooo, Jess, I'm really tired," you sigh.
"Yeah, me too, angel"
"Then why the hell didn't you stay home in bed?"
Jess smiles guiltily and lets out a small chuckle "I couldn't sleep without you. I just... I couldn't help it, I had to come here to see you" Your knees go a little weak and you notice his gaze, which he hasn't yet taken away from you for a mere second.
You sigh again "Alright Jess, then stay, I guess" Jess leans in and kisses you deeply, he pulls away from you and then gives you a second kiss. he really can never get enough of you.
"Thanks, babe, I was hoping you'd say that" he then laughs suppressedly "Without your mercy, I probably would have died of insomnia tonight" you roll your eyes "Oh please! The way I see it, I'm the one now who's gonna die of insomnia tonight instead"
Jess shakes his head as he gently twists your body around so that your back is now pressed against his chest. He slowly walks you back to your bed in the corner of the room. "Nah, no way Y/N. You`re gonna get your sleep, I promise".
Standing in front of the bed, he slowly lowers you onto the mattress and pulls the covers over you before getting in bed himself. He wraps his arms around you and whispers softly "Y/N, angel, I swear I came here just cause I needed to see you. Needed to be with you, alright?" You can't help but smile while you lean back against him "Oh Jess, I guess you`re growing soft. My Jess, my poor Jess..."
Jess frowns slightly "whatever that means. I snuck out and came here to see my girl, that`s not... well- I thought you wanted to get some sleep. You wanna start arguing now?" You grin and turn your head around to kiss your boyfriend on the cheek
"No need to argue, baby, you´re the toughest guy I know, really. well, and...", you can feel his heart beating faster behind you, "and I love you"
Jess presses a kiss on your forehead and hugs you even tighter.
"I love you, too, Y/n"
you snuggel into him and the two of you drift off to sleep.
Good night ˖⁺‧₊˚♡˚₊‧⁺˖

Idk if I'm doing this right but can you write something with Jess Mariano just being really cute and soft? Submissive isn't the right word but just how you'd think he'd be when he's really comfortable with someone and they're playing with his hair or something.
My Soft Boy
Summary: In which Jess only likes Y/n playing with his hair.
A/N: Okay so I did this as a headcanon instead! I hope you don't mind!

Tumblr media
It should be known that Jess hates anyone touching his hair
Like no one but him can touch that hair of his
He styles it to perfection
But somewhere down the line, you came along
And it made him rethink it all
Apparently you had been working at Luke's Diner for a long time, and Jess has been surprised he hasn't seen you around in the few weeks he has been there
But then he finds out that you were on holiday
First time he had thoughts about you playing with his hair was before the two of you got together
It was a boring day at the diner
A Tuesday
Hardly any customers
And the two of you (now quite good friends) were playing cards, sat on either side of the counter
And there was a moment where Jess just focuses on your hands
Watching as your fingers fiddle with your own hair
And it brought a weird sensation to Jess and gave him that sudden craving of wanting your hand in his hair
He knew that you knew about his hatred for people touching his hair when you saw one of his dates/hook-ups try touching his hair and him telling her to "get off."
She stormed out the diner and he stormed off upstairs
Stating that he needed to wash his hair now
He came back down with wet hair in his face to continue his shift
And very cautiously you moved to stand in front of him to move a few strands of hair out from his eyes
He didn't tell you to 'get off' like you thought he would
Instead a soft smile appeared on his face and eyes fluttered as the smallest of touches
A few weeks after that, Jess found you reading a book under a tree
He came over to you - completely tired from school (he actually attended because of knowing you would be there)
And without any words he just sat down next to you
And laid his head down on your lap
Guided one of your hands away from your book to his hair
Closed his eyes
And smiled softly when he felt your hand very softly playing with his hair
He never fell asleep so quickly - and he never felt so calm before either with your hand in his hair
He was just falling in love with his best friend - and he knew after today he would have to tell you his feelings
(Especially if he wanted you to continue playing with his hair)

I have a request if you are interested? :)
A teen!dad jess. He has a best friend from New York (she can have a name or it can be Y/N, you can choose) (they are endgame, jess never had feelings for Rory but she has feelings for Jess, it won't go anywhere) Jess and his best friend have a kid, they co-parent (whether they are dating already or in the future is up to you) Jess gets sent to Stars Hallow, she ends up moving to stars Hallow to, to be close to Jess and so their kid can be with him too (she is emancipated, plus Jess knows she's coming because they keep in contact) if anyone reading this would like to turn this into an actual story, I'm totally down for reading it :) if you choose this request, I look forward to reading it. Thank you!!
hi noonie!! this is my first requests omg wowowow i think this is a great idea! im sorry if its kinda sloppy and not how u wanted! but i hope u enjoyy ! wc: 1.7k also i saw how you said that jess knew she was coming, but whats more fun than a suprise? ;) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As your best friend grabbed his bag and walked towards you and your one-year-old son, you forced yourself to keep your composure. You didn't know how you were going to okay without him. You'll still see him when he comes back to visit for holidays and such, but it won't be the same. You didn't want Jess to leave and neither did he, but he had no choice. He walked over to you and S/N. Reaching out for his father, S/N cooed and Jess took him from you. Jess held him preciously like it would be the last time. "Be good for your mom kid." He kissed his head.
He put down S/N into his crib before walking over to you and grabbed both of your hands. "I'm going to call you twice a day. Morning and night, okay? If there's anything you need, I'm there for you." He explained clearly. You nodded your head as you chewed on your lip, unable to form words. You wrapped your arms around his neck in a tight hug. Jess Mariano was your best friend. Having S/N was an accident, but you and Jess both believed that everything happens for a reason, so you kept him. And neither of you regret it. Your relationship is a little odd, but you love him nonetheless. You pulled away and kissed his cheek. "You'll be okay." You whispered, wiping a tear from your cheek. "And so will you, Y/N. You're the strongest person I know." You smiled softly at his words and gave him a picture of the three of you. He grinned and held it tightly. "Don't miss your bus, buddy." You joked. He ruffled your hair and waved goodbye.
A year later, you still feel the same as you did before. You know, the same day the two of you created a child, the same day you gave birth, and the same day he left. And you were panicking. "Oh, S/N, I'm so excited!" You jumped around making S/N giggle. He bounced along with you. "But I'm nervous too. What if he found someone else?" Then you gasped. "What if he cut all of his hair off?" You exaggerated just to see S/N's goofy smile. "This isn't about me though. This is all for you!" You tickled him (ugh, he's so darn cute). You grabbed your luggage, held S/N on your hip, and left the apartment. Stars Hollow was a cute name, you had to admit. You were thrilled to live in a small town! When you arrived, you stepped off the bus and looked around. Just as you imagined, it looked great! But maybe you should’ve told Jess you decided to be spontaneous and move to Connecticut. On the other hand, Jess could be on the verge of dying from boredom, so a surprise is the perfect thing to cheer him up.
“Thoughts, S/N?” You asked, clenching your hand into a fist as a pretend mic to his mouth. Your adorable son stared at you with his gorgeous eyes. Damn he looks just like his mother. Kidding, he’s an exact replica of Jess. Anywho, you accepted his answer and began to explore.
45 minutes later, you realized that you didn’t plan this out well enough like you thought. Even after talking to Jess everyday on the phone for an entire year, you didn’t know where exactly he was located. Fortunately, you took notice that people often went into a cute little diner called “William’s Hardware Store”, so you followed the crowd into the diner a little bit confused because this didn’t look like a hardware store. You walked in and almost immediately, people started turning to look at you. But atleast S/N enjoyed the attention.
You cleared your throat awkwardly and walked over to the stools at the counter and sat next to a girl around your age. You placed S/N in your lap and took in your surroundings. The girl you were sat next to turned around and gave you a bright grin. “Hi! You’re the new girl, aren’t you?” Her voice was sweet like candy (in the best way possible). “That I am! I’m Y/N. And this dude here is S/N.” You grabbed his hand making him give a little wave. She giggled. “Well, it’s nice to meet you, Y/N. And you too, S/N.” She tickled his belly quickly and perked up to you. “I’m Rory!”
You looked to where a boy was coming out of a hidden room and THERE HE WAS IRJAHDJWHS
Thank goodness he didn’t cut all of his hair off. You suddenly felt butterflies in your stomach, which you hated. Rory turned to face where you were looking and scoffed. But he was right out the door as quickly as he came. “Not the best of friends?” You asked, jokingly. “Jess? It's.. kind of weird right now. But yeah, no.” She informed you. You nodded. Weird? Like romantic weird?
“Hey, what can I get you?”
You turned away from Rory and looked in front of you. This looks EXACTLY like who Jess explained to be his uncle, Luke. You remember seeing a sign saying “Luke’s” bellow the hardware store sign. Backwards baseball cap, plaid shirt, scruffy facial hair, this must be him. “This is Luke, Y/N. Luke, Y/N just moved here from.. where?” Rory introduced and then turned to you. “New York.” You replied. “Oh, welcome. What part? My nephew Jess is from New York also.” Luke smiled. “Same as him.” You responded. Rory and Luke looked confused and you felt awkward again. Not the right choice of words.
That was until Luke’s face changed from “what is she talking about?” to “ohhh THAT Y/N!” You're glad you didn't have to explain.
“Y/N! It’s great to meet you! How are you? Is this S/N?” Luke looked below to see S/N’s cute lil chubby face. “Yup, this is him!” You held S/N up higher so Luke could see him better. “Wait you know Jess?” Rory asked. “Father of my kid. It wasn’t planned, but things happen, you know? Anyway, he’s my best friend. We’ve know each other since childhood, actually.” You explained. “Wow, this is amazing! So- so you live here now?” Before you could answer Luke, he rushed up and walked to a phone, dialing a number. “I'm gonna get him to come back right now, don't worry."
“Oh, uh. Well sure, I suppose.” You muttered. “Um, well I have to go home to my mom, but it was great meeting you! See you around!” Rory waved goodbye and left. You mentally smacked yourself on the forehead. You were never good at first impressions, EVER. Just a few seconds after Rory left, the door opened again to reveal a sweaty Jess with a panicked expression. “Where’s the fire? Why’s everyone so calm?” He ran over to Luke. “Here, lemme show you.” Luke placed his hand on Jess’ shoulder and guided him to your seat. You fixed your hair as quickly as possible.
Jess stood and stared. “Wh-What are you doing here?” He brightly smiled. He looked down at S/N, who stared into his eyes. He took him from you and rocked him slowly. “Hey, kid.” Jess kissed S/N’s head. “Hi, Jess.” You spoke shyly.
He then turned his attention back to you. “Hey,” He gazed. You stood up quickly and wrapped your arms around him. Luke took S/N from Jess so he could hug you back fully. “I can’t believe you’re here.” He whispered in your neck. “I missed you.” You told him, pulling away. Although Jess always had trouble expressing his feelings into words, it was a little tense when he didn’t respond back to you.
Luke awkwardly turned to you. “Sorry, Y/N, I gotta get back to work.” He apologized, giving S/N back to you. “It was nice meeting you.” You smiled. He winked and walked back to the kitchen.
"Sooo, how have you been?" You asked, trying to start a conversation while bouncing S/N in your lap. "I've been alright." He put his hands in his pockets and began to speak when a blond chick wrapped her arms around him. "Hey. Where were you? I thought we were gonna go to my place." She prodded. She then turned to face you. "Aw, cute baby."
Of course he had a girlfriend. He was always cool and popular in school, so why wouldn't he be here? You were terribly mistaken to think otherwise. But now you felt a weird pit in your stomach. This was a bad move. You shouldn't have come here. But no, your son needs his father. So, you decide to be brave for S/N.
"Can we do this later?" He mumbled to her. "So you expect me to be okay with this? Ugh, what's the matter with you?" She stormed out of the diner before Jess could respond (not that he wanted to). "Trouble in paradise?" You questioned wholeheartedly. Although you were disappointed, you weren't going let this get in the way of your friendship. He scoffed. "Shane is definitely not my paradise. Look," He got serious for a moment and sat down on a stool next to you. "I'm happy you're here. Really, I am! But you came at a bad time." He told you. "Love triangle?" You joked, thinking back to how Rory said things were weird between them two. "How'd you know?" Jess' eyebrows furrowed. Oh. "Lucky guess." You shrugged. Well, this can't get any better can it? "It was nice seeing you. I should go start unpacking though." You stood up and switched S/N to your other hip. "Listen, let me get things sorted out and I promise I will be with you." He grabbed your hand. "Sorted out? Jess, you shouldn't feel forced to be with me. It's okay, I promise." You tried to reason with him. Why did he make it seem like he had no other option but you? Clearly he has choices.
"No, no. I need to be with you. Remember a few weeks ago when I told you I was gonna go back home?" He asked. You nodded. "That's because I wanted to be with you and my son. But you stopped me and I listened. So, now you're here and I'm gonna be the best damn father I can, alright?" He let go of your hand and ran behind the curtain. All of a sudden, S/N began to cry.
a/n: i'm gonna do a part two dont worryy! im just tired rn but i will try and draft something later tonight and maybe post it tmr xx this was a little hard for me to write since jess would be more mature as a father (atleast i think so) and he wasnt alone like in the show yk? but i had fun nonetheless :)

a change in attitude (Jess Mariano)
A/n: im trying something new?!?! in honor of gilmore season :) and my 3rd fave gilmore boy (first is dave then tristain)
The bell above the door of Luke's Diner jingled, announcing the arrival of another customer. Jess Mariano, clad in his usual leather jacket and with an air of snark about him, was in the midst of one of his classic, snarky arguments with Luke Danes. The two of them had a unique way of communicating – mostly through grunts, eye rolls, and sarcastic comments.
"You can't just change the entire menu, Luke. People come here for the same thing every day," Jess argued, leaning against the counter.
Luke shot back, his voice gruff, "I can do whatever I want with my own diner. If you don't like it, go somewhere else."
Before Jess could fire off another retort, the door opened once more, and the chime sounded again. Both men turned their attention to the newcomer, a young woman with a hesitant smile. She scanned the diner, looking for an available seat.
Jess went momentarily silent, and Luke couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at his nephew's uncharacteristic behavior.
The girl, auburn-haired and carrying a worn copy of a book, finally spotted an empty stool at the counter. She made her way over, and as she climbed onto the stool, her eyes met Jess's for a brief moment.
"Hey, Jess, take care of this customer, will ya?" Luke grumbled, slightly bewildered by his nephew's sudden change in attitude.
Jess nodded in response and moved to stand in front of the girl, a small but genuine smile on his face. "What can I get you?"
The girl blushed at the unexpected attention from the usually aloof Jess Mariano. "Um, just a coffee, please."
Jess nodded again and turned to prepare the coffee, his focus entirely on the task. Luke watched with growing curiosity as Jess meticulously brewed the coffee and placed it in front of the girl.
"Here you go, one coffee," Jess said, his tone unusually polite.
"Thanks," the girl replied, a surprised but grateful smile on her face.
Luke couldn't resist the opportunity to tease Jess. "Well, well, Jess, I've never seen you act so… courteous."
Jess shot Luke an annoyed look but didn't take the bait. Instead, he leaned in slightly closer to the girl and asked, "So, what's the book you're reading?"
The girl's eyes lit up as she held up the book for him to see. "It's 'On the Road' by Jack Kerouac. Have you read it?"
Jess nodded, genuine interest in his eyes. "Yeah, it's a classic. Kerouac's a great writer."
The girl smiled, and a conversation between them began to flow naturally. Luke observed from a distance, his confusion giving way to understanding. Jess wasn't just being courteous; he was genuinely interested in the girl.
As the girl and Jess continued to chat, Luke couldn't help but smile to himself. Maybe his nephew was growing up, and perhaps this unexpected encounter was the start of something new for Jess Mariano – a little romance amidst the usual snark and sarcasm.
Luke retreated to his counter, content to watch the interaction between Jess and the girl, knowing that sometimes, life could throw pleasant surprises when you least expected them.

Jess Mariano x Reader
Pairing: Jess Mariano x reader
Warnings: none
Summary: it's cold outside and Jess helps you out
Word count: 1.1k
Tumblr media
You’d been walking around town for a while now, the chilly night air starting to get to you. You rubbed your arms to get some semblance of warmth as you tried to think of what to do. You didn't want to go home, not with your mother bound to be there. After the vicious fight you two had, you had no longing to be anywhere near her, which unfortunately left you with no place to sleep tonight. You knew you should go back, you knew it would be the smart, reasonable thing to do, but you just couldn't bring yourself to do it as you remembered the words your mother had spat at you as she stared at you with revulsion.
Of course you’d had fights with your mother before, but when she wanted she could be particularly cruel, and tonight she had certainly wanted to be cruel. She was pissed at you because you’d failed an important test at school, a failure she said had to do with a certain raven-haired boy currently residing above Luke’s diner. She believed that Jess was a bad influence on you and since you'd refused to stop hanging out with him, your mother sought other ways to convince you he was bad, namely blaming every single failure you had onto him. You were sick of defending him to your mother whenever you made a mistake, and so you had said some things you shouldn’t have, which caused the massive fight to implode, and here you were. Walking around Stars Hollow late on a Tuesday night with nowhere to sleep.
You were about to relent and go home, wondering if you’d be able to sneak into your second story window, when you heard someone call your name.
“Y/n.”
You looked up and found Jess leaning out of his window, staring at you with a slight smirk and smug expression.
“Jess?” you asked in disbelief.
His smirk widened “Y/n. Enjoy your walk?”
Your brows furrowed in confusion. “What?”
“Seen you walking around for a while. Cold night for a stroll, don’t you think?”
You let out a huff, crossing your arms as you stared at the boy you were so reluctantly fond of.
“Shut up,” you muttered, though you made sure you were loud enough for him to hear you.
“I’m guessing that means you don’t want to come in for a hot chocolate.”
Your head perked up as you stared at him. “Are you offering?”
Jess rolled his eyes. “I wouldn’t very well say it if I wasn’t offering, would I?”
You grinned and walked up to the diner, crossing your arms to savour any warmth you might have while you waited for Jess to come downstairs. How slow could he be? Eventually you saw the diner light up and Jess walk towards the door, his stride leisurely despite the fact you were contracting hypothermia right that second.
Jess did open the door though, and as soon as he did you were inside, as far from the door as possible as you felt your whole body shiver in delight at the change of temperature. Maybe you wouldn’t contract hypothermia after all.
Jess snorted at your reaction and started making the hot chocolate while you trailed behind him, unused to being in the diner when everyone else was gone.
“Where’s Luke?” you asked, eyes darting around the place as if Luke would spawn there any moment.
Jess shrugged, his back to you as he stirred the hot chocolates. “Out at something. Can’t quite remember. He’s not gonna be back till later.”
You raised your eyebrows, checking your watch which said 11:45pm. “When exactly is later?”
Jess shrugged again. “I dunno. Later.”
You rolled your eyes but gratefully accepted the warm cup of hot chocolate he placed into your hands. You took a sip, burning your tongue slightly but you didn’t care. It was nice and warm and you were still so cold after spending most of the night outside with the snow in just a flimsy cardigan.
“You look cold,” Jess observed over his hot chocolate.
“You don’t say?”
Jess placed his mug on the counter. “I’m serious. How long were you out there?”
You checked your watch again. “I don’t know. A few hours? I left just after dinner so…”
Jess didn’t need to ask why. You’d complained enough about your mother that Jess knew when you had a fight it tended to be big, and staying outside while it snowed for hours was a pretty clear sign that whatever happened had been big.
Jess sighed. “You’re an idiot, you know that? Come on, I’ve got blankets upstairs.”
Jess took your hand and you complied, though you brought your hot chocolate with you. When you arrived in Luke and Jess’s tiny apartment, Jess led you to his bed where there were clothes, books, and most importantly, blankets scattered across the area.
You carefully placed you cup on a table and found one of Jess’s jumpers to put on, as well as not one, not two, but three blankets that you wrapped tightly around you. Still, you couldn’t stop the chills racking your body from all your time outside. Jess had sat next to you on his bed and was quietly watching you while you froze away, until he let out a frustrated sigh and tugged you towards him.
“What are you doing-“
You didn’t get to finish before Jess ripped you of every layer you had just wrapped yourself in – minus the jumper – and you squawked in outrage. Jess ignored you, rewrapping both of you in the cocoon of blankets and pulling you closer until your head rested against his chest.
“There,” he said. “Body heat.”
You rolled your eyes but nestled further into his embrace, feeling the delicious heat surround you. The two of you stayed there like that, holding on to one another, until you tilted your head to look up at him.
“Thank you,” you said. “For doing this.”
Jess raised an eyebrow. “Doing what, exactly?”
You shrugged. “Letting me stay over, keeping me warm, the hot chocolate.”
Jess looked at you silently before carefully brushing some hair away from your face. His hand stopped on your face, before a slow smile crept across his face.
“You’re all good,” he said quietly, tugging you closer to him.
You placed your head into the crook of his neck so he couldn’t see you smiling, and slowly, as you listened to the steady beat of Jess’s heart and felt some feeling come back to your fingers and toes, you drifted to sleep, wrapped up in Jess’s embrace.

Track 5: You’re On Your Own Kid
Jess Mariano
Summary. Jess falls in love just to leave everything behind for New York.
Warning. heartbreak. fluff. angst.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A whole town could fit in one room.
A room of over two thousand people yet I’m unamused by not one.
I swirled the cup in hand, some random red cherry drink that tastes like tart lemon.
I felt my seat shift as some guy, around my age, sat himself down.
I have seen him around town the past couple of weeks.
I have grown to learn not to interact with him, a trouble maker, he’s the new town gossip.
“Didn’t take you for one to party,” I sarcastically pointed to what seemed like anything but a party.
The room held a solid cold feel to it, a boring crowd.
“Don’t get the wrong idea,” he answered “Luke grounded me, feels like I’m on a tight leash.”
“What did you do?” I asked, sure am one for gossip.
“If I told you, you would probably police me like this whole shit town does” he refused, his eyes wandering around the room.
“I,” before I could reject his deception I was interrupted by Luke.
“Well, that’s my call, I’ll see you around”
The hot summer night air stilled around, too late for anyone to be out.
I lost track of time reading a new book I bought last night in the town square.
A door could be heard, slowly closing.
Jess, the boy from the party, slowly tip towed out of doose’s market with the open-closed sign in hand.
“Didn’t know doose’s closed up so late,” I said, surveying his figure.
He didn’t say anything, just kept walking.
I gasped “you were grounded for stealing, yet you do it again!”
It bothered me, the stoic unbothered feel he possessed so proudly.
“You read?” He asked, changing the subject to the book I had in hand.
“Yeah, I just finished this one,” I raised the book to my chest, “not that great, I mean the writing is moving, don’t get me wrong, but I didn’t like what I was reading. I didn’t like the story line.” I walked a few steps ahead, “What about you? What do you do in this life of yours? You know, other than stealing towns.”
“And so I get policed on” he mumbled, stuffing the sign into his armpit.
I don’t say anything, I just walk to Luke’s diner to drop Jess off, assuming that’s his next destination.
“Well,” I gestured to Luke’s door, bidding him farewell “bye, Jess” I waved off.
“You know my name…” he said, slightly shocked, “what’s yours? only seems fair for the name thing to go both ways.”
He didn’t walk in, he stood by the door waiting for a reply.
His eyes bore holes into my skin, I felt myself burn.
“Good night Jess” I smiled, walking off.
“Good night,” he chuckled, waiting for me to walk away.
“New sign?” I asked Luke, sipping my coffee.
“New what?” Luke came back to my seat looking around to what I pointed to, not having heard me.
Jess appeared behind Luke’s back gesturing me to stop.
I smiled shaking my head “sign”
“New wha- oh my god, Jess!” He screamed, noticing the changed sign on the door.
“Yes uncle Luke?” Jess answered, putting down his notepad.
“When we open tomorrow that better be back to its place, and I better have my old sign!” He scolded, taking off his cap angrily walking towards the stairs, Jess following.
“If he grounds me again, your meat.” Jess seethed at me, turning his head to walk up the stairs.
“We’ll see,” I mumbled, taking long sips of my drink.
“Where is it?!” I can hear Luke’s voice upstairs rummaging through Jess’s belongings.
Jess could be heard lightly, the thick walls not conducting his voice that well.
It’s good that not a lot of people are in today, or this would’ve been very embarrassing.
“This, this, all of this! I thought we talked about this already! Return everything back, and pack your stuff, you're not staying here for long!” Luke screamed, running down the stairs and into the diner then out the door.
I felt bad, terrible actually.
I didn’t know that what Jess did was such a big deal, and I didn’t know what I said would impact him that much.
I pulled myself up and to the second floor where I could hear things being thrown here and there.
“Jess?” I whispered nervously knocking the door.
The sun was pouring out of the window behind him as he walked around the room pulling little trinkets and chucking them into his bag.
I felt my chest tighten, maybe it’s because I’m nervous he’s going to scream at me, maybe it’s because he looks so good right now, maybe because it’s the first time I see into his personal life.
Jess caught me staring, rolling his eyes as he stomped his way to me, but before he could put any word in I started rambling him out with apologies “I’m sorry Jess, I didn’t mean to. If I had known it was that big of a deal I wouldn’t have, I’m really sorry Jess, please forgive me.”
“It’s fine” Jess huffed, going back to pushing his belongings into a small duffel bag “it’s my fault, I’m the one who switched the sign and stole all these things”
“You can stay overnight if you want, I don’t mind really, my way of saying sorry,” I tried to fix what I did “and for all this, you should really put it back, I’ll help you”
“Thank you,” he sighed, stopping his movements “but I’m fine, I don’t need your help”
“Please Jess, we can eat pizza and watch a movie after,” I tried to persuade him “your pick.”
Jess swung his bag on his shoulders as he carried two trash bags of all the things he stole for the past couple of months.
He stepped out into the hallway with me “lead the way.”
The sun was near down and after such a long day we were both exusted, some more than others.
“Come on Jess, last stop.” I urged him on kocking on babettes door to return her gnome.
“No, I’m not knocking the door of some old woman’s house, that's how horror books start” he huffed, turning a corner.
“Babette is the sweetest, here I’ll knock” I pulled the statue from his hands as we walked up babettes patio.
I knocked the door three times as babettes ruffling could be heard from the other side, “wait, I’ll be there in a moment!”
“Oh hi dear, come in, come in” she paused in shock realizing why I’m here and what I’m holding “Pierpont, oh honey!” She exclaimed, pulling the gnome from my hand.
“Oh, thank you darling!” She pulled me in for a hug, pausing as she noticed Jess behind me.
She knew that he stole her gnome as she was fighting Luke the other day for him to return it.
“Your welcome” I smiled.
“Come in, I’ve made muffins!” She gushed, ushering me into her home.
“Oh no need to bother, we were just making a stop, maybe next time” I said, backing into the patio.
The sun had set and the town fell into a quietness again, just how I like it.
Jess and I walked side to side, the sound of our tapping feet on the pavement was the only thing to be heard.
“These are really good” Jess spoke up after a long silence.
“Yeah, Babettes muffins are the best! I visit her every two weeks and she always sends me home with a batch, maybe next time you can visit her with me.”
He hummed in response, opening the small gate for me to walk through.
“My parents are still home and if they knew I’m having a boy over they would probably skin me alive” I said, walking him to the side of the house, where my window could be seen.
“Climb up this tree, that’s my room right there” I said, pointing to my window as he nodded.
I pulled away his duffle bag to carry it inside “don’t fall!”
“You have boys here often?” Jess asked, chewing a piece of pizza.
The movie could be heard in the background but it was some horrible romcom and we both had gotten bored 15 minutes in.
“Nope, what made you think that?” I asked, sipping my soda.
“You just seem experienced with the escape route.”
“Oh..it’s nothing like that, I just don’t like staying home that much, I use that tree to get out myself.”
“To read?” He asked.
“Mostly, yes, to read.” I got off the floor while I gathered the pizza box to throw out.
Jess sat in the middle of the floor, so out of place, in a room that was a filled with pastel pinks and ruffles and lace.
His leather jacket was thrown on my pink comforter and I felt my chest tighten.
He looked so out of place yet so perfect like he belonged here.
“You didn’t answer me last time, what do you enjoy doing?” I asked.
“I like music, and reading as well,” he answered.
“What do you like reading?”
“I like the classics, Hemingway,” he started rambling on about movies and books and music but couldn’t hear anything.
I felt like I was flouting between what’s real and what’s fake.
“I have wanted to read that book.” I say as soon as I hear him saying the name of a random book.
I never wanted to read that book.
But now that he has read it I wanted to read it too.
This feels like a dream.
Jess inside my room feels like a dream.
He stopped talking as he stared at me like I did him, it felt like being caught.
“Where did you live before stars hollow?” I asked again.
“New York, with my mom.” he mumbled.
I get the feeling that he doesn’t talk about this normally.
The sun poured into my room in soft rays.
“Jess?” I lazily mumbled, looking around the room for him.
His jacket is gone and so is his bag.
He probably left before I could wake up.
I screamed, stuffing my face into my pillow.
I haven’t seen Jess for a while now.
I wait patently, it’s okay we were the best of friends.
I dropped by the diner regularly for the past week looking for him but he is never there.
I even asked Luke a couple of times and I always earn a: why would I know where that kid ever is!?
Although three days ago I found the book he was talking about on my desk, annotated.
That book is the only thing holding me back from running around town looking for the trouble maker.
I’ve finished the book Jess gave me but I still haven’t seen him to thank him for it or even talk about anything else.
I can’t forget about his scent or his leather jacket.
I can’t forget about the way he talks or his laugh.
My every thought is consumed by his being.
A few months passed and I found myself standing in the corner of another lame town party.
I swirl my drink in hand, a sweet lime juice this time.
A room of over two thousand people yet I’m on the tip of my toes looking for one in particular.
I search the part of better bodies just to learn that he would never care, just to learn that my dreams aren’t there, aren’t here with me.
“Didn’t take you for one to party” his voice sounds like a godsend.
“Don’t get the wrong idea, I’m only here for this boy” I smiled, “5’9, brown hair, leather jacket, looks like he could bite you.”
Jess didn’t say anything.
He just stood a foot away from me, staring at my face.
“I missed you” I said softly.
“Missed you more” he smiled, wrinkling the corner of his eyes.
I hugged him tightly, inhaling the smell of cigarettes, cheap cologne, and rain.
The leather jacket I’ve dreamed oh so much of crinkled between my fingers.
“Where have you been!” I pushed him away to look into his eyes.
“I went back to New York. Did you like the book?” He asked.
“Yeah I did, piece of art.” I noticed Patty and Babette whispering while pointing at us, once they caught my eye they pretended that the ceiling was more interesting " Do you wanna walk outside?” I asked searching his face for any indication that he knows where I’m leading him to.
“Sure, let’s go.”
We talked about the weather and the music, his trip to New York and where he’s staying, his school and reading patterns, new town gossip and Babettes muffins, my new cat and his uncle, the stars and aliens, literature and artificial intelligence.
I returned to the same spot I saw him.
I sat on the same bench, in the same room I had met Jess six months ago.
I stared into his eyes as he breathed out knowingly.
He knew.
He knew why I missed him.
He knew why my cheeks were always pink.
He knew that my heart felt heavy.
He knew that I fell in love with him.
For the first time, I took a leap of faith, I kissed him.
He pulled away, stilling the air around us.
I looked into his eyes, panicking, looking for any indication that he isn’t interested, he doesn’t want this, he is disgusted by me, I had ruined what we had.
And for the first time, Jess Mariano kissed me like the whole world depended on it.
Jess kissed me like all of the books I read.
Jess kissed me like I never thought anyone ever would.
Jess kissed me and I felt the way one feels looking at a great painting, complete.
We were forced to push away, breathing for air.
“You better not leave again” I gasped as he went back in for more.
I felt light headed like I could fly.
“I’m leaving tomorrow,” he breathed against my lips. “maybe you can come with me.”
“Jess, don’t leave, not yet, please” I pleaded.
I can’t have my heart ache for him again, not again.
“I have to, I have work” he sighed, playing with my fingers.
“Jess please” I muttered looking at our intertwined fingers.
“I’ll take you out on a date, I’ll call you every day at 8 PM and I’ll visit whenever I can.” He assured me.
“I’ll miss you,” I snuggled up to him gloomily.
“Hey, don’t be like that” he groaned, pulling me closer.
And so I filled my nights in a parking lot, planning on running away every single time.
I read books I know he likes and I listen to songs I know he listens to.
I sleep every night waiting for him, wishing one day I could join him in such a big city like New York.
It’s 8 PM again, I touch my phone as it fits his face.
The rain was pouring heavily, as the heavy raindrops could be heard tapping on the window.
And the sound of heavy knocking and door bells.
I was left home alone, studying.
The knocking and ringing didn't stop, only proceeding to be more frantic as I started walking down the stairs.
I contemplated opening the door.
It is a small town anyways who would want to murder me.
I pulled open the door as a very rain soaked, heavily breathing, flushed Jess stood in front of me.
The last time I saw him was the night of our first kiss.
I wasn't prepared to sit face to face with him again.
I wasn't prepared to talk with him again.
Everytime I rang him up the other line would go dead.
Everytime I stood in front of the bus contemplating on whether to get a ticket or not I feel unfulfilled in doing so.
I return home, sit in my bed, and read his annotations.
I would think of him, trying to put together the way he used to talk, how his voice sounds, how he looks.
But here he is, Jess in all his glory.
His hair stuck to his forehead.
His clothes hung to his body, dark and heavy.
His face was flushed with color and feelings and emotions.
I frown, my heart breaking as I went to close the door “I tried,” he sighed out.
“I tried,” he said again, pushing the door open with the palm of his hand, “to forget about you, about this.” He breathed out.
“I was scared every time you called.” He spoke without breaking eye contact, not even for a split second.
“I’m terrible at this type of stuff. I get terrified at the thought of you, of what we could have.” He said in a fast pace, fitting everything in one breath “but I want this, as much as I tried to refrain myself. I always go back to you, like the water I drink, like the air I breathe” and he says he’s not a romantic.
This time around it was his turn, his leap of faith.
He pushed forwards, placing his lips on mine.
Suddenly pulling away, he searched for approval in my eyes.
I kissed him back just as passionate as he just did, maybe even more.
I pushed him on to the shoe rack as he tripped, laughing while he did.
“Bout’ time you let me into your front door.” He smiled.
“Jess, do you want to go upstairs?” I asked as he looked at me in surprise.
“Oh come on, don't get too excited '' I laughed, pulling him upward onto his feet again.
I breathed in the autumn New York City breeze.
I called a taxi to take me there.
After giving the location of Jesse’s apartment, I looked out the window.
I wonder why Jess loves this town so much.
My knees were bouncing, I felt nervous.
The clock read 7:48 PM, nearly 8.
I stepped out of the taxi into New York.
Into the place in Jess’s heart.
I walked up the stairs rather than the elevator, I had time to kill.
Finding his door was easy, but waiting till it hit 8 wasn’t.
When this time came, I rang the doorbell, the feeling of excitement building up in my chest.
But Jess wasn’t the one to open the door.
Rory, the girl I know oh so well, stood in front of me, shocked to see me here.
“Jess, someone’s out to see you,” my dreams are not rare.
“No, that’s um- that’s fine, I’ll be on my way.” I left the hallway in disbelief.
And in the loud city of New York, I could hear Jess’s voice aloud calling out for me.

📝 Title: Midnight Rain
📚 Requested: Yes/No
✍ Summary: The story of how you fell in love with Jess Mariano and how second chances exist
🎶: Midnight Rain by Taylor Swift
💌: my first Jess Mariano fic, hope you guys like it!
You never knew what love truly felt like until Jess Mariano walked into your life.
It was just another typical day, walking into Luke’s diner for your morning dose of caffeine with Rory while her mother went to get a newspaper.
Then there he was, wearing a metallica t-shirt with red long sleeves, bickering with Luke about his choice of outfit for the day.
“Hello?” Rory waved a hand in front of your face with a teasing smile, “Do you want to sit down or are you just going to stand there?”
Clearing your throat, you gave the mystery boy one more glance before you nodded, “Yeah, of course we’re sitting down.”
While Rory placed the order, you pulled out your current read and started where you had left off.
“Emily Dickinson?” A deep voice said as coffee was poured into your cup, “A remarkable poet and woman, or so I’ve heard.”
Looking up, you see the mysterious boy now standing in front of you, “She is. You’ve read her work?”
The boy shrugged, “A little here and there.”
You nodded to the book in your hands, “You can borrow this one if you want, I’m just rereading it anyway.”
“Really?” He asked, a mischievous smile growing on his lips, “You wouldn’t mind?”
“Would I be offering if I did?” You countered.
“Touche.” He chuckled as you handed him the book, “Thanks.”
“You’re Luke’s nephew right?”
“I’d rather be known as Jess. And from what I can deduct, you’re Rory’s friend?”
“I’d rather be known as Y/N.”
“Done.” Jess walked in pace with you as you were on your way to the bookstore.
“Done with what?” You asked, making him hand you the Emily Dickinson collection of poems you loaned him three days ago.
“The book.” He answered as you took it from him.
“What’s the verdict then?”
“It was okay, also I did write some thoughts in the margins.”
Flipping open the book, you were met with his neat handwriting filling up all the empty spaces, “Wow. I thought you said you haven’t read it much?”
Jess gave a smile, “What is much anyway?”
“Point taken.” You smiled as he pushed open the door for you.
“You seem to be alone today.” Jess noted as he sat in the chair in front of you, “Not here with the rest of your coffee trio?”
You laughed, closing your book to give him your full attention, “Sadly no. Rory is off tolerating Paris since the latter is freaking out over something and Lorelai is attending to something at the inn.”
“Pity.” Jess’ signature mischievous smirk in place, “But on the bright side, I guess I’ll have you all to myself.”
“Oh really?” You giggled.
Before Jess could give his witty remark, Luke could be heard from behind the counter, “Jess, I do not pay you to flirt with the customers!”
“First of all, you don’t pay me at all.” Jess stood up, coffee pot in hand, “Second, I only flirt with this particular customer.”
And before he left your table, he leaned forward and pecked you on the cheek.
You couldn’t control the smile that adorned your lips as the heat crawled its way up to your cheeks.
Oh, but Jess Mariano was far from done, “I’ll pick you up at 8 tomorrow night for our first date?” He calls out as he makes his way to the counter.
Looking over your shoulder, it kept all of your willpower just to stop yourself from laughing at Luke’s rather shocked expression, “Sounds like a perfect plan.”
“Fine, laugh all you want but no one else can change my mind on the fact that Romeo and Juliet is a complete scam.” Jess said, stabbing his chocolate ice cream with the small spoon the dessert came with.
You were quiet for a moment as you took a bite off your mint chocolate ice cream, making it seem like you were thinking about what he said, “I know right! Rory refuses to hear a word I say on the matter but how stupid can Romeo be to see that Juliet was breathing?”
“It was a sleeping potion, it would be impossible for her to not breathe.” Jess interjected.
“Yeah, and people have the audacity to call it the greatest love story of all time when the title clearly belongs to ‘The Notebook’.” You said, taking another spoonful of your ice cream.
“Mhm.” He nodded in agreement, “Alie and Noah beat out Romeo and Juliet anyday.”
“You know, you’re adorable whenever you talk about books.” Your boyfriend added.
You swear that your face is 13 shades of red right now, and not because of the summer heat, “So do you.”
“I’m serious.”
“I am too.”
He rolls his eyes with a chuckle, tucking a stray strand of hair behind your ear, “Everything you do is adorable. From the way you would practically scrutinize every single bad decision in a tv show to the way you like to smell newly-bought books before putting it away.”
“Oh, so now we’re pointing out my awful quirks?” You teased.
“Lorelai’s sarcasm is now starting to rub off of you.” Jess mused, “Can I kiss you?”
“You better. ‘Cause I’ll be so mad if you don’t.”
It was surprising how you didn’t break the door as you ran into the diner.
“Luke, where’s Jess?” You said, hoping that the envelope in your hand wouldn’t be too crumpled with how tight you were holding on to it.
“In the apar-” He didn’t need to finish his statement as you bounded up the stairs faster than anyone has ever done.
“Looks like somebody’s excited.” Lorelai noted with a smile to which Luke just shrugged.
Immediately jumping into his arms once the door opened, it was a surprise how Jess was still able to keep his balance.
“Woah, someone might’ve got a sugar rush today.” Your boyfriend teased as you started to calm down a little.
“My book is getting published!” Finally brandishing the news you wanted to relay, you held out the envelope to him.
“See? I told you, they’d love you!” Jess grinned, taking the letter out and reading it over.
“I mean it’s nothing permanent yet.” You said, smile still intact, “The book still has to go through a round of edits and all, there’s no contract yet but they’re interested!”
In his delight, Jess picked you up and spun you around before pecking a kiss to your lips, “C’mon let’s go out.”
“What for?” You asked, still dizzy yet you weren’t sure if it was from being spun around or being kissed.
“Duh, to celebrate? What else would we go out for?” He then grabbed his coat before pulling you out of the apartment.
“Jess, you know it’s not that easy.” You sighed, tired of having to explain this over and over again.
“You’re the one who’s making it complicated.” He argued.
“Jess, the publication firm specifically told me that if I moved out of Stars Hollow then the deal is over. My book won’t get published.” You said, exasperated, “Hence, I cannot move to Philadelphia with you.”
Jess was getting tired of this discussion too, “Then pull it out! I’m going to be writing my book too, then we can look for a publishing firm together.”
“And put my dream on hold?” You gave a humorless chuckle, “Let me think about it, oh wait, the answer is practically obvious - I won’t.”
“So you’re going to choose your dreams over me?”
“Yes Jess, why on earth would you expect me not to?”
“I don’t know because you love me!”
You scoffed, shaking your head in disbelief, “Just because I love you doesn’t mean I’ll compromise my dreams, my future for you.”
“I would’ve done that for you.” Jess countered.
“Then I’m sorry if I can’t say the same.” You could feel your throat tightening with every passing moment, you knew how this would end - and you hated it.
“If that’s the case, then I’m going to Philadelphia with or without you.” He said, packing up the last of his clothes and stuff.
“And I’m not stopping you.” The tears were now freely dripping down your face, like raindrops on a windowsill.
“Fine.” Jess said, not being able to look at you since he hated seeing you cry then without so much as another word he left your apartment, slamming the door on his way out.
It’s been years since that fateful day. It took you a while to get over it but as Lorelai said, “Trains barely even wait for you at the station, so why would life?”
Part of you didn’t regret staying in Stars Hollow, you already had 3 published books to date and was now working on your 4th one. But a part of you would always ask the “what-if?”
The other night, you saw Jess on the news - proudly promoting the book he had just published. You had forgiven him, after all the time had passed, but you can’t help and wonder about the life you gave away.
“Oh hey, can you go get some coffee to-go? Mom needs me to save her from another one of Ms. Patty’s set-ups.” Rory said, looking up from her pager.
You nodded, “Yeah sure.”
Personally, you could never tire of the ambience that meets you when you walk into Luke’s diner, it’s hardly changed over the years.
“Hello Y/N, let me guess, a cup of coffee?” Luke greeted you with a smile, thankfully still fond of you despite what had happened with his nephew.
“Three to go actually.” You said, returning the smile.
“I see some things never really change.” A familiar voice, one you had thought that you would never hear again, reached your ears.
There he was, standing by the door in all of his glory, as if he never left.
“Jess.” You said in awe, not noticing that Luke had started tending to other customers - giving you and your old flame some privacy.
“Y/N.” He may have been older, but the same boyish, mischievous smile was there.
Even if you had imagined this day before, every word you had rehearsed was reduced to rubble. You tried to think of something to say, but everything you could ever possibly know in the English language is now gone.
“I see you’re now one of Stars Hollow’s pride and joy.” Jess teased, slowly walking towards you.
“Pride and joy may be a little of an overstatement.” You said, “I see life’s been treating you well too. Loved how you foreshadowed the plot twist.”
Jess sat down on the bar stool nearest to you, “All of your books were simply impeccable.”
Then with a smile, he pulled a book out of his bag, “Though, I must say, your second one is my favorite.”
Your heart sank as you braced yourself for the teasing/mocking you get in a few short minutes.
Jess had started to read the synopsis, “He was a montage. A love potion that works in slow motion. He could hardly be described as sunshine but he wanted it comfortable and stayed the same. She was midnight rain, she wanted that pain, would rather chase that fame and all of her changed. Their love was like a postcard of paradise, picture perfect - a guaranteed happy ending. But is anything in life ever guaranteed?”
You sighed, “Jess-”
“It’s about us isn’t it?” He said, not a trace of any childish humor in his tone.
“If you mean that our relationship served as an inspiration, then yes.” You said.
“Hm.” Jess contemplated, tracing the small picture of you on the jacket cover, “But they had a happy ending.”
You shrugged, “A part of me dreamed of getting that ending.”
“And who says that it's too late for us to have that ending?” He asked, pushing himself off the stool and now standing right in front of you.
You tried not to get your hopes up, “Do you think we could make it work? Pick up where we left it off?”
He reached forward to push the hair out of your eyes, “I mean it won’t always be sunshine and rainbows. We’ll have fights and all but I think that I want to be able to have those fights with you and resolve them with you. Remember when we had that discussion about Romeo and Juliet?”
Furrowing your brows, you didn’t have a clue where this was going, “Yeah?”
“Alie and Noah may be able to beat out Romeo and Juliet anyday, but I never thought that their story was the greatest one.” Jess said.
“Then who’s?” Your heart was beating faster with every passing second as you had a hint on what the answer was.
“Ours.”
“But, what about your life in Philadelphia? What about your publishing firm?”
“I can work remotely, then I’ll just go down to Philadelphia if I have to fix something and all. I lost you once, I can’t bear to lose you again.”
Persistent. One of the many things that made you fall in love with Luke’s nephew in the first place.
Without missing a beat, you grabbed him by the collar of his leather jacket and pressed your lips to his.
“I’m guessing that’s a yes then?”
“Obviously.”

jess mariano—it hurts to say, but i want you to stay.
summary: the breaks are the best parts of studying.
word count: 1.4k
fanfiction no. 004
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the principal of stars hollow high approached you one unsuspecting morning, asking you to follow him to his office for he had an important question to ask you. sure you were not in trouble, you followed him with eager curiosity, despite the worried looks on your friends' faces—they always worried for nothing.
"you know jess mariano, correct? asked your principal as he sat in his office chair and gestured for you to take a seat opposite him.
"yes?"
"I'm sure you've noticed jess has been skipping classes," he waited for you to acknowledge this, and only continued when you nodded vigorously in response. "in order for him to graduate this year, he needs to improve his grades."
he stopped there, waiting for another response, but this time it seemed he desired for it to be verbal.
"okay," you replied with a hint of confusion.
"it is perhaps...unconventional for me to propose this of another student," he prefaced, "but i would be remiss if i didn’t ask—would you be willing to tutor mr. mariano? now, of course," he continued before you could interject, "there would be benefits for you. extra credit."
extra credit? you knew yourself well enough to know you would have accepted this offer with or without these proposed benefits, but to save your silly little heart, you pretended to think over the offer and ask a question or two about the details.
。+゚☆゚+。★。+゚☆゚+。★。+゚☆゚+。★。+゚☆゚+。
jess trudged down the steps to the diner, peeking out from behind the curtain to see where y/n was sitting. scanning the room, he found them at a table close to the window, not far from the door, their nose buried in a textbook the size of his torso and thicker than drywall. he fiddled with the cd in his hand before finally shoving it down his back pocket and walking out into the nearly empty diner.
"hey," he announced himself.
you looked up from your history text book and turned to the voice's origin. jess mariano looked at you with a lopsided smirk while he pulled out a chair, turned it around, and rested his elbows on the back of it as he sat down.
"hey," you glanced at your watch, "you're right on time, i half expected you to at least be late."
jess shrugged, "i don't want to waste your time."
"that's considerate of you," you thanked him, "are you ready to get started?"
"on the reunification of italy during the eighteenth century? not really," he sucked in a breath through his teeth.
"well, when i don't want to study, i schedule out my breaks so i'm not working for too long at a time and i have something to look forward to," you suggested, "why don't we do that before we start?"
"okay," he nodded, "what do you do on your breaks?"
"anything. listen to music, get a snack, take a walk, read."
jess took this in and decided he knew exactly what he'd like to do for his first break. in fact, he was looking forward to it so much already, he found himself less inclined to do the work than he was before. but he settled himself down, looked over to you and your encouraging smile, and asked for a pen.
the next forty-five minutes clung to the clock's hands, dripping away slowly like honey from a spoon. jess's leg was bouncing impatiently, he tapped his pen against his notebook rhythmically until you told him to focus and stop distracting both himself and you.
"so, what was garibaldi's significance to reunification?" you asked jess, eyeing his notes and wondering whether he'd written down anything of importance, or just scribbled something down when he thought he was supposed to.
"it doesn't matter, because it's break time," he smiled mischievously.
you looked at the clock on the wall, and though he was right, you were eager to learn whether he had been paying attention, or whether your time had been somewhat ill-spent, for it was not all ill-spent if it was time spent with jess.
"can't you answer the question before we start the break?" you asked almost pleadingly.
"nah."
you looked at him with disbelief as he stood from his chair and headed over to the stairs that led to his shared apartment with luke. shaking your head, you went back to your own studying as he walked away, writing away almost immediately, which took jess by surprise when he turned around.
"aren't you coming?" he asked, forcing your attention away from work and over towards him.
"oh, sure," you replied awkwardly, rushing to catch up with him.
you'd never been in jess' apartment before, well, luke's apartment. but since jess was living there, it was much as you had expected—messy. clothes were strewn across the floor and bed, boxes lined every surface and every wall, music albums were scattered around his cd player, and there must have been at least a few dozen books littered across the entire space.
"it's very you," you broke the silence.
"uh, thanks. i got this new album today," he informed you, flashing the cover too fast for you to read the band's name. "they're called 'the strokes'."
you hadn't heard of them, but kept an open mind as jess put the cd on and skipped past some of the tracks until it landed on an upbeat song with light drums and a catchy guitar riff. immediately, jess began bobbing his head to the beat, subconsciously biting his lip as he watched the cd spin. he waited a moment before he turned to gauge your reaction.
it was hard not to move to the beat in some way, it was one of those songs. the man singing through the speaker had a unique voice that both you and jess seemed to enjoy.
"you like it?" he asked.
"yeah," you laughed, "i think it's awesome. can i see?" you pointed to the cd case.
jess raised his eyebrows, offering it to you. daring to walk across the room and further into his apartment, you took the cd from his hand, acutely aware of the way your fingers brushed over his, and turned it over to see the track list.
"we're listening to track five," he said.
"'someday'" you read the title aloud.
"yeah, my other favourite is 'last nite'" he added, noticing the first song was fading.
"put it on, i wanna hear," you demanded gently.
jess didn't get flustered, but if he did, he kew this would be one of those times where he'd be tripping over his own feet and fumbling with the buttons on his cd player. instead, he was collected as he changed it to track seven and tapped his foot to the beat.
"i think i’ll have to get myself this cd," you smiled excitedly, tapping the plastic case against your palm.
jess didn't say anything at all, he just watched you put the cd back on his dresser and stare at the music spinning in his player, your eyes going bright when the instrumental part sounded through the upstairs apartment, your head gently nodding to the beat. he thought you were perfect. and when the principal dragged him into his office to express the idea he had for him, he was sure he'd decline swiftly, certain anything he had to suggest would be stupid and not worthy of his time. but he had never been so wrong. he knew the moment he heard your name in that odious man's office that his life would become infinitely better seeing you twice a week in luke's diner.
but here you were, in his apartment, validating his music taste and enjoying it almost as much as him, being the most wonderful person he had ever known or read about. if he were a poet, he would create poems for the ages, poems that would one day be discussed in dingy classrooms, analysed to the heavens, and they would wonder who the person was that had him so enraptured beyond anything or anyone else. he would make the whole world desperate to get to know you.
you felt his staring, his unwavering gaze upon you. could you bare to look at him?
"this one's called 'hard to explain', i like this one too," jess whispered as the next song came on, and you found yourself involuntarily turning to look at him as he spoke—he was closer than before.
"yeah?"
"yeah," he breathed against your lips, rushing into a quick kiss before he could talk himself out of it.
you reciprocated his advances rather quickly, and once he felt this, the kiss became slower and more purposeful. his hands reached for your waist, trailing up your back to grip your hair.
"i- um, i don't usually do this on my breaks," you laughed breathily, "just in case you thought this was just something i got up to."
jess sniggered, "is it something you want to get up to more often?" he asked, quirking an eyebrow.
"only if it's with you," you confessed, cheeks heating from the bold confession.
"i only like to share music and literature," he winked, leaning back in.

hi lena,, hope you’re good! could i possibly ask for a 10) ‘You think I'm beautiful?' - 'Mmm, yeah a little' with jess mariano for the baby blurb blitz please? desperate for more jess content and you write him so well omg<33
[fem!reader]
morning routine adhered to, you left your home with enough time to grab coffee at luke’s before heading to school. you had always enjoyed this little routine, but it had become far more pleasant upon the arrival of luke’s nephew, jess.
he was the stand-offish sort, a little aloof and cold, which was terribly unusual for your small town, and it made him stand out rather harshly. but you had never minded his cool disposition, nor the fact that he was more reserved than many of your neighbours.
over the weeks you’d gotten to know him, his icy exterior seemed to thaw some, slowly disintegrating as you drew another laugh or smile from him. he had grown to like you, much the same as you had grown to like him, but neither of you were very proficient in communicating this.
“coffee,” you demanded with a huff from morning dreariness, dropping your belongings on the seat next to you at the counter.
jess leaned against the counter smirking at you, “what’s the magic word?”
you shot him a glare, though it quickly dissolved into an amused smile. “what happens if i don’t say it?”
jess shrugged, “do you really want to risk it and find out?” he glanced over to the coffee looking lonely without a mug to accompany it.
you shuddered, “no. please, then!” you pleaded, resting your chin on your hand as you looked longingly towards the coffee pot.
“alright,” jess scoffed, “couldn’t deny a beautiful girl like you her coffee, now could i?”
you thought you’d heard him incorrectly to begin with, trying to force the heat that came to your cheeks back where it belonged, but jess looked equally as embarrassed. had he meant to say such a thing, or was it a slip of the tongue?
“you think i’m beautiful?”
jess went to shrug his shoulders, then shook his head and tried to play it off: “mmm, yeah, a little,” he risked a glance as he poured your coffee.
you couldn’t help but look at him now that he was flustered, for it wasn’t often this happened to jess mariano. and despite your sickly sweet smile and thumping heart, you fixed your gaze on the boy until he was left an awkward mess.
“thanks for the coffee.”
“uh, yeah, no problem. i need to get my stuff…for school,” he scratched the back of his head and made his way towards the doorway to luke’s flat.
“wanna walk together?” you called after him.
jess paused, turning to you with a satisfying surprised look upon his face that he tried to downplay, “sure,” he nodded, lingering for a moment, a faint smile tugging at his lips, before trudging upstairs.

Dating Jess Mariano headcanons
-Jess can’t believe his luck, he thinks he’s living in some sort of dream. You’ve always been his dream girl and now you’re actually his
-He likes to show you off, at school, in Stars Hollow, at work and whatnot, he makes sure to pull you beside him and likes to put his arm around your waist.
-When you refuse and pull away, he’s gonna accept that and act as if it wasn’t bothering him although it sure as hell is. He likes to play it cool and he gets on with his day but he’s thinking about you rejecting his touch until midnight.
-He won’t show you but he DOES get insecure at times. Sometimes he can’t bear being around you cause he thinks he knows you’re way too good for him and it hurts him to realize it more and more day after day. He’s scared you will realize it too and leave him
-On good days though (when he misses you too much) he will invite you over or he simply shows up right outside your window to ask you to come with him/ to sneak out with him
-Likes to kiss you as if it would be the last time, most of the time behind some shabby cabin where no one can see you two
- when you two are walking around town, he likes to kiss your neck and teases you about giggling or laughing about it
- he works extra shifts to be able to afford taking you to a fancy restaurant. When you two finally wind up there, Jess usually complains about all the “snotty, snobby and super spoiled ol' rich people” in that place which makes you wonder why he even wanted to go there with you. He says he did it because that’s what a good boyfriend does and he’s a damn good boyfriend after all. He’s rather sarcastic while saying it and you two share a laugh.
- he’s convinced to stay with you until forever, provided that you don’t leave him of course. He even thought about marrying you one day although that thought kinda freaked him out a bit. No one in his family ever managed to stay happily married for more than a year and he doesn’t know if he will be able to work it out. He’s not the luckiest guy after all
- Still, once he got with you, he knew luck had been on his side for the very first time in his life.
-You’re an angel to him. Sometimes he says stuff like “hold on, my angel is coming over in a minute” or “wait, my angel is on the phone right now” when he’s around Luke and isn’t thinking too much about what he’s saying so it kind of slips out of his mouth. Luke restrains himself from mocking him because of it cause he genuinely likes to see Jess happy
- Jess buys you flowers whenever he’s got the money to do so but downplays it every time when he gives them to you. He acts as if it was “no big deal” but secretly he loooves when you get all excited about flowers and thank him over and over again.
- On Friday nights he loves to cuddle up with you on the couch but he doesn’t admit it. He says he usually isn’t into all that mushy stuff but he’s gonna act as if he was into it because of you. You know he’s lying.
-he actually loves you, damn it ;-)

Taylor Swift Songs that Would Describe Relationships with the Gilmore Girls Guys - Gilmore Girls Preference
Title: Taylor Swift Songs that Would Describe Relationships with the Gilmore Girls Guys
Characters: Dean Forester, Jess Mariano, Logan Huntzberger
Word Count: 3,183 words
Warning(s): (Dean's) none, (Jess's) jealousy, mentions of abandonment, (Logan's) bit of arguing (playful, but still arguing)
Author's Note: I might write for more characters in the future, but this felt like a good starting place (especially because of how long things like this take me).
These aren't written in chronological order.
Fearless gives off the same vibe as Gilmore Girls and I will not be explaining any further.

Dean Forester:
Today was a Fairytale
Can you feel this magic in the air? It must have been the way you kissed me Fell in love when I saw you standing there
To this day I don't know what gave me the confidence to say yes when Dean asked me out.
It was a nice date.
I just wish I hadn't been so nervous. Maybe I could've actually appreciated it.
It was small. We really just got ice cream and spent a while walking around. It didn't really matter though. The entire event was perfect to me... besides how stupid I had been acting the entire time.
I tried to play it cool.
But I tripped leaving my house, rambled for ten minutes, and almost ran into Dean and knock over his ice cream. But through all of those moments where I wanted the ground to swallow me whole, he would smile.
He would smile, grab my hand, and keep going like nothing had happened.
When he dropped me off, I expected a shell to crack. I expected some sign that this had all gone wrong.
But he walked me to my door.
It was then that I noticed how he was looking at me.
It was disappointment or shame. He was smiling at me with this look in his eyes that made me incredibly nervous.
"I had a great time," he said.
I just nodded, "Me too."
I looked down, wanting to avoid any other potential mistakes.
"(Y/n)," Dean spoke softly. I slowly looked back at him. "Can I kiss you?"
I blinked at him a few times before nodding quickly.
He leaned down and pressed his lips to mine gently. It only lasted a few seconds, but it still made my heart do front flips. He leaned back and his smile was even wider than before. It made me smile back.
It was magic.
Paper Rings
I want to drive away with you I want your complications too I want your dreary Mondays Wrap your arms around me, baby boy
We both knew that we were moving faster than most couples our age. We had committed to each other fiercely. I wouldn't have traded this for the world.
It was the summer after we graduated that Dean decided he wanted to take a risk.
After making dinner for me at his house and having a lovely night together, we were sitting at the table with smiles resting on our faces.
"We should get married," he mumbled, almost in a daze.
"What," I asked. He nodded. "Are you being serious?"
"I know we're young," he explained. "I don't want to rush you into anything, but we've been together for years, we both love each other, and we're about to take a huge step in both of our lives."
I blinked at him, completely stunned.
"We... We can wait," he shook his head. "I... I don't even have a ring yet. I just... I'm ready to commit to you."
"Dean," I placed my free hand over our hands that were resting on the table. "I... I don't think I'm quite ready for a wedding because of college and the costs that come with that, but... I want to commit to you too. I'm ready to be with you... just not financially."
"Really?"
"Yes," I nodded. "I love you. Endlessly. As soon as we're both at the point where we can afford it without killing our savings, then I want to marry you, Dean."
He chuckled before leaning forward to kiss me. He pulled back abruptly.
"Hold on," he said, standing up quickly.
I watched him grab some twine and a pair of scissors.
"Give me your hand."
I held my hand out and watched him make a ring out of the twine. I smiled at the knot tied around the top of my finger.
"Just until I can get a proper ring."
"I love it," I nodded before kissing him again. "And I love you, Dean Forester."
"I love you too, (Y/n) (Y/l/n)... or Forester," he muttered.
It had a nice ring to it.
You Are In Love
'Cause you can hear it in the silence You can feel it on the way home You can see it with the lights out You are in love, true love
Our dates had become a normal pattern.
Dean and I had managed to find a pattern that suited both of us very well. It all just felt so natural with him. It was like this had been a part of my life forever.
I loved it.
I loved him.
Not that I had brought myself to actually say that to him.
Dean stopped in front of my house and I smiled at him.
"I'll see you tomorrow," I said.
"Yeah," he nodded.
I leaned over and pecked his lips.
There was a pause as I pulled away. We just looked at each other for a moment. There was so much in that moment that went unsaid. Silence truly spoke volumes.
I grinned again and got out of the car.
I was about halfway up the walkway to my front door when I heard a car door open and close. I assumed it was further down the road.
"(Y/n)!"
I turned around when Dean said my name.
"What is it-"
I froze up when Dean pulled me into another kiss. His hands held the sides of my face. I slowly kissed him back as my hands touched his sides. He pulled away slowly, only moving a few mere inches from my face.
"I... I love you," he said quietly, almost studying the look on my face.
I smiled at him, "Really?"
"Yeah," he nodded, smiling back. "I love you, (Y/n)."
"I love you too," I replied.
I leaned in and pecked his cheek nervously before pulling back fully and heading to my door. I stopped with my hand on the doorknob.
"Bye," I waved awkwardly.
Dean waved back.
It was innocent and precious and perfect.
I wouldn't have traded that moment for the world.

Jess Mariano:
The Other Side of the Door
I said, "Leave," but all I really want is you To stand outside my window throwin' pebbles Screamin', "I'm in love with you" Wait there in the pourin' rain, comin' back for more
I jumped when something bounced off my window. I pulled open the curtains just as another pebble hit the window. I glared down at Jess, who was standing in my yard with that stupid ass smirk.
I opened the window, "I don't want to talk to you."
"Don't be like that," he groaned. "Come on. We need to talk."
"I told you what I wanted."
Commitment.
That's what I wanted.
I was tired of Rory Gilmore feeling like a potential third player in our relationship. I could only blame her so much when she wasn't making any moves. But I was tired of Jess's behavior suddenly changing whenever she showed up.
"I know, I know, that's why we need to talk," he said. "Come on. Let me in. Please."
I crossed my arms and shook my head.
"Fine," Jess replied. "You want commitment, right? You want to know that you're the only one that I want?"
I nodded.
He smirked, "Then, watch closely."
He took a few steps away from my window and looked out at the street. He placed his hands around his mouth as a makeshift megaphone.
"I am absolutely in love with the person up in that window," he shouted into a pretty busy part of town. "I am in love with (Y/n) (Y/l/n) and I will continue yelling it until I know that (Y/n) believes me!"
"Holy crap," I mumbled.
This boy was so lucky my dad worked night shift.
"What the hell is going on," my mom asked as I pulled on my shoes and started running outside.
"I'm sorry," I yelled over my shoulder. "I'll take care of it!"
I ran into the yard and grabbed Jess's arm, pulling on it so he would turn and face me.
I quickly kissed him before he could speak. His hands touched my sides, pulling me closer to him.
"I love you," he repeated quietly once I pulled away. "I'm sorry that I didn't show it the way I should've."
"I love you too," I replied.
He smiled before leaning in to kiss me again. My arm wrapped around his neck. How perfect could this have been?
Run
Darling, let's run Run from it all We can go like they're trying to chase us Go where no one else is
Soft moments with Jess weren't super common.
They were mostly saved for times when we were alone, usually late at night or early in the morning. Those seemed to be the only time that Jess's sarcasm switched off for the most part.
"We should go on a road trip," he suggested one night, running his finger up and down my spine. "Just... go."
"What," I asked. "It's the middle of the school year."
"And?"
"We can't take off on a road trip right now," I chuckled.
"Why not?"
"Do you want a serious answer to that?"
He rolled his eyes.
He suggested things like that a lot. I had to be his voice of reason. I would love to do something like that. Just the two of us without anything else affecting us. It was a sweet idea. Just not realistic.
"We can plan for a trip over the summer," I offered. "You know I hate missing school like that."
"And there's nothing I could do to convince you?"
"No," I chuckled. "Plan a summer trip for us and we'll see what happens."
"'We'll see what happens,'" he mocked me before leaning over to kiss me.
I grinned against his lips. I started planning our trip in my head. I could only dream of how great it was going to be.
This Love
When you're young, you just run But you come back to what you need
Jess was impulsive.
That was truly the best word for it.
I never saw it as a particularly bad thing. It was just a part of him that I had long since accepted. Like every part of him.
I just never thought that would culminate in him leaving me behind.
I went to the diner to see him only to be told by Luke that Jess had left town. I asked where he had gone. Luke didn't know, but he was trying to figure it out. I asked if he had mentioned me at all before he left. A note, a passing comment, anything to make it seem like he had me in his thoughts at all.
Nothing.
I spent that night in bed. I cried until the exhaustion had finally forced me to fall asleep.
I had to eventually give up on trying to track him down. He clearly didn't want me to know where he was. I stopped trying.
I thought I was doing a good job moving on.
And then Jess showed up at my door.
I let out a huff and immediately went to close the door.
"Hey," he said, stopping the door with his foot. "Please. Talk to me."
"Like you talked to me," I snapped.
"I-"
"No," I shook my head. "You left me, Jess. You don't get to waltz back in. No. No."
I tried to push his foot out of the door with mine. He didn't budge.
"Do you think I wanted to come back here," Jess asked. "I came back for you-"
"Then you could've called," I said. I wanted the tears in my eyes to go away. I didn't want to show him any emotion.
"I know," he leaned on the doorframe. "And I'm sorry. I will do anything, and I mean anything, to get you to forgive me."
I looked away from him. I felt like I had wasted so much time waiting on him. I did everything in my power to fight off the sob that wanted to come out.
"(Y/n)," Jess softly pushed the door open.
When I didn't stop him, he stepped inside and pulled me into his arms. His hand cupped the back of my head to guide my face into the crook of his neck. My arms wrapped around him, and I finally started crying.
"You left me," I said through my crying.
"I know, I know," he mumbled. "I'm sorry."
I felt him press a kiss to the side of my head.
"I'm going to fix this," he promised. "No matter what it takes. I promise."
I just moved closer to him. I had missed him so much. As much as he hurt me, I didn't want to send him away. He was all I wanted.
"I love you, (Y/n)."
It was the first time I hadn't said it back. He didn't expect me to. Not yet, anyway.

Logan Huntzberger:
Ours
Don't you worry your pretty little mind People throw rocks at things that shine But they can't take what's ours
It was the first night I had stayed the night with Logan.
It had been calm and relaxed. It was perfect to me. I don't think I had anyone ever make me feel so completely comfortable. I loved every moment.
There was only one moment of pause.
I woke up around two in the morning to find the other side of the bed empty. I frowned and looked around the room. I spotted Logan pacing the room.
"What are you doing," I asked.
"Sorry, didn't mean to wake you," he muttered.
"That's not what I asked," I pulled myself into a sitting position. "What's going on?"
"I just... I got stuck in my head a bit," he shook his head, trying to wave the question off.
"Any reason why," I stood up and walked over to him.
"My dad... I called him today... he... wasn't very nice about us."
"Oh," I mumbled. "I'm sorry-"
"I don't want you to have to deal with this," he cut me off. "You don't deserve to be judged. You deserve to be able to be happy without getting crap from people. You deserve better."
"Logan-"
"I dragged you into this."
"Please stop," I grabbed his hands. "I chose this. I chose to be in a relationship with you. And as long as it doesn't change how you feel about me, I don't really care what your parents think of me."
He looked down.
"Logan," I stepped forward. "Do you want to be with me?"
"Yes," he replied. "Of course, I do."
"Then that's all that matters," I continued. "Anyone else can fuck off. Your happiness should come first. As long as you aren't hurting anyone, your happiness should be the first priority-"
Logan leaned forward to kiss me, cutting off my little speech. I wrapped my arms around his neck and grinned into the kiss as he pulled me closer.
"I love you," he blurted as soon as he pulled back. "God, I love you."
I smiled even wider, "I love you too."
He kissed me again. I pulled away a moment later.
"Let's go back to bed," I said. "Please. It's two in the morning."
He chuckled and nodded.
After that, the night was perfect.
Besides my issues falling back asleep after being woken up, but that wasn't important at the time.
Enchanted
This is me praying that This was the very first page Not where the story line ends My thoughts will echo your name Until I see you again
Meeting Logan was a complete accident.
I was just at work when he walked in.
At first, I didn't take much note of him. Just a handsome, rich kid that waltzed in. It wasn't the most uncommon thing for me to see on a day-to-day basis.
However, when he leaned on the host's stand and smiled at me, it definitely got my attention.
"Hi," I said, a bit awkwardly. "Can I help you with anything else?"
"Well, a phone number would be nice," he replied.
I had to bite back a scoff. He was confident at best, arrogant at worst.
"I'm afraid that's not very appropriate, I'm sorry," I explained. "Thank you for the compliment. Your table will be ready in a few minutes."
"Is there any way I could convince you-"
"Hello, how can I help you," I asked the person behind him.
He chuckled, watching my interaction.
When I finished with that customer, I turned back to Logan. He still seemed a little shocked that I had completely ignored him.
I gave him a sickeningly sweet smile, "Can I help you?"
He smirked and shook his head before stepping away.
"We'll call you when your table is ready," I called as he walked away.
I couldn't help but hope just a little bit that he would come back to bug me later.
I Think He Knows
He got my heartbeat Skipping down 16th Avenue Got that, oh, I mean Wanna see what's under that attitude like
I was just trying to get through my workday when I heard the door open.
"Hi, welcome," I said as turned around. It was Logan. "Welcome back."
"Hey, there's my favorite host," he greeted. "Haven't seen you in a while."
"I was visiting my parents," I explained. "Have you been stopping by every day?"
"It's my favorite place to eat," he shrugged. "And you're always a pleasant surprise."
"That's not weird," I muttered.
"Ah, yes, the sarcasm and attitude I get in response every time I see you," he said.
"I don't give you attitude," I replied.
"Oh, yeah, none at all," he mocked sarcastically.
He had a point.
After meeting him the first time, the two of us had ended up in a bit of a competition of who could sass the other person more. I was winning, by the way.
"So... I have an offer," Logan said when I had a moment to pause.
"Oh, I am so intrigued about what this is gonna be," I smirked as I leaned on the stand.
"Let me take you out to dinner," he offered.
"What," I asked, stunned.
He hadn't actually asked me out before. It was playful flirting. That's all it seemed like. I didn't mind it because he didn't seem like a threat at all. I also didn't think that he was genuinely interested. I thought I was just fun for him to mess with... hence the attitude.
"I want to take you out on a date," he continued. "Dinner, specifically."
"Are you being serious?"
"Completely," he nodded.
I stammered for a moment, every potential sarcastic comment falling apart.
"So...?"
He knew. He probably had known from the first we met that I liked him. That little bitch.
"Uh, yeah, okay, sure," I nodded awkwardly.
Logan grabbed my hand and kissed the back of it before letting go and going to leave the restaurant.
"See you later!"
I sat there in shock for a moment. That smug little asshole.
He better make this worth it.

Hey! Happy 11K girlie!! You deserve it!! Also funny enough I just left OBX and didn’t realize until I saw one of your posts and put 2&2 together that that stood for OuterBanks lmaoo anyywayyy:
I’d love to request a Jess Mariano x Roommate! reader
The first bullet point on the Roommate AU’s where they move in with a mural friend it’s like enemies to lovers: what if the mural friend is the Readers Brother (Foster , biological, adoptive whatever). They know Jess from the publishing scene and their sister (Reader) needs a place to crash for a while. Jess and the brother have been living together for a while and are comfortable but like the sister comes and messes up what Jess calls in a sarcastic tone “the Feng shui”.Maybe Reader is an Artist and fills the flat with art and that’s how her and Jess bond? Or
((This is the Roommate AU : We’re both moving into the same apartment with a mutual friend of ours but we didn’t know each other and it’s dislike at first sight, but now we’ve got to live together))
Thank you!!! And 🤣 about the obx/outer banks thing!!

Roommates - Jess Mariano
Summary: you move into your brother's apartment and clash with his roommate, Jess.
A/N: You know I wrote this whole thing and forgot the feng shui line! I really wanted to use it too but then I couldn't figure out where to fit it in and I really wanted to post this so I apologize for that!!

Maybe if he closed his eyes and opened them again, or punched himself hard enough, everything would be back in its place. His mug, sentimental in that he’d swiped it from Luke’s the first time he moved out of Stars Hollow, would be sitting right there inside the cabinet door above the coffee maker (the only valuable thing you’d contributed to the apartment, in his opinion).
“Are you having an aneurysm or something?”
Jess turned around almost comically slow, hand still on the doorknob of the cabinet, to find you standing behind him with the exact mug that he was looking for in one hand, eyebrow raised skeptically. No one had ever claimed that Jess wasn’t judgemental, but you might have outmatched him in that category. The look on your face right now surely beat half a life’s worth of judgement on his end.
“I was trying to have a cup of coffee, couldn’t find my mug.” He made a point of looking at the mug in your hands, his mug, as if to get his words across. Passive aggressive maybe, but when he moved into this apartment with another editor at Truncheon he hadn’t expected to be saddled with you too.
You were only supposed to be down in Philadelphia for a week. At least, that was what your brother had led Jess to believe when he’d first posed the idea to him. “Hey, my sister’s in town for a couple days, would it be cool if she crashed with us?” Jess wasn’t heartless, he agreed to a couple days (your brother apparently didn’t understand the definition of a couple) but this wasn’t visiting. You had all your stuff in their apartment, crammed in with their stuff. Clothes and wound up in the wrong pile, in the wrong room. Art supplies that littered countertops and desks.
He’d admit that you were a talented artist, he’d admired a few of the pieces that you had in your room whenever he happened to be in there (returning pairs of socks or taking back the pen you borrowed and never returned).  But being a talented artist didn’t make you less of a pain in his ass.
“There are other mugs.” You replied, finally stepping around him and refilling the mug that was in your hands. His mug.
In all honesty it was a simple mistake. You hadn’t intentionally taken the mug that apparently had such a sentimental place in Jess’ heart that he was debating not having coffee at all, you had just reached for the first one available.
When Jess didn’t say anything and made no move to acknowledge that there were, in fact, other mugs in the cabinet, you finally spoke again, “I can throw this out? I’ll even rinse all the girl cooties off it,” you teased.
Your brother had described Jess as ‘super chill’ and while your brother had never been spot on with descriptions you hadn’t expected him to be so far off either.
“I don’t want any.” Jess finally said, closing the cabinet and moving passed you into the hallway.
“It’s a mug Jess, it’s not the end of the world,” you remarked, setting the cup of coffee on the counter and going into the refrigerator for cream.
“My mug,” Jess clarified, turning back around to you, “and my printer because apparently yours is busted and my t-shirt cause you don’t wanna get stains on yours. You know; I put up with a lot of your brother’s shit at work, I don’t feel like getting stuck with your shit around the apartment when I’m home.”
“First of all, the printer is in the living room, you don’t want me to use it? Move it. Second of all, do you even listen to Metallica or was it just some stupid ‘don’t talk to me’ shirt you got in high school to repel people? Cause you don’t really strike me as the heavy metal type.”
“Stay out of my stuff.” Jess replied, leaving the kitchen and heading to his bedroom. He was half-tempted to rip the mug off the counter and pour the coffee in the sink but he was thirty and that seemed a little childish for thirty.
Things with Jess didn’t get any better when you extended your timeline in Philly to include a couple extra months (“I’ve got a show in D.C. but it’s stupid for me to move everything down there for a month when I can just commute on the weekends”). Jess made a comment about you grifting your way along the east coast despite both of you knowing that you paid your share of the rent every month on time. Things didn’t get better, necessarily, but they didn’t get worse either. You stayed out of his way for the most part and, aside from the Metallica shirt that had paint stains on it, you made a mental note to stay out of his things.
“I already told you I wasn’t going,” Jess commented, hanging his keys by the door and dropping his backpack. He was on the phone, switching it to speaker and placing it on the entryway table as he kicked his shoes off.
Your brother’s voice came through the speakers, “Oh come on man; I can’t go. I thought I could but I’ve got a date tonight and I can’t cancel again.”
“That’s not my fault, I told you I didn’t wanna do these parties.” Jess replied.
You had been working on a painting in your room, door ajar, and you could hear Jess on the phone. You weren’t one to eavesdrop but you couldn’t help yourself, stretching your arms and heading into the hallway, slowly making your way into the living room. Jess was still on the phone, attempting to make a case for not going to the party. It was more a wine and cheese night to schmooze the people who gave money to Truncheon and that wasn’t Jess’ scene at all but your brother was never good at scheduling himself, or being responsible, and Jess was usually the one to pay the price.
“I’ll go with you,” you spoke up before you could even really think about what you were offering. Spending an entire evening at a stuffy cocktail party in a used bookstore with a roommate who actively hated you; it wasn’t your best decision but you were art blocked and Jess was a surprising source of inspiration.
Your brother asked what was happening as Jess stared at you, mildly surprised, “your sister’s gonna go with me.”
“Maybe you guys can resolve all the weird sexual tension.” Your brother announced and Jess scrambled to quiet the phone.
“You were on speaker you moron,” he snapped, carrying his phone and his backpack into his bedroom.
Jess didn’t give you much more information but you’d been to plenty of events like this for galleries and knew most of what to expect. You dressed nice enough, you sipped at a familiar red wine and you talked to some older man about the Subsect and tried to keep an eye on Jess just in case you needed an excuse to make a get away.
A couple of times throughout the evening you made eye contact, raising your eyebrows in amusement or offering a smirk at something someone else said. Jess would smile or roll his eyes and you couldn’t help that little flutter in your chest, you were actually enjoying his company even if you were mostly separated. This was better than you expected it to be. Long and tiring but better than you had expected.
“Thanks for helping out,” Jess mentioned, as you tossed the last of the small plastic hors-d'oeuvre plates into the trash bag he was carrying.
“Oh, this isn’t the first time Chris has dropped the ball and it definitely won’t be the last. Besides, I don’t mind cleaning up.” You replied, honestly. You weren’t sure you wanted to outright admit to him that you were actually enjoying the evening; bickering with each other at home wasn’t always ideal but there was a part of you that enjoyed the relationship you and Jess had.
“I meant coming along tonight.” Jess answered, “I hate these things...made it a little more bearable.”
“Are you saying you enjoyed my company?” You laughed.
“From the sounds of it you enjoyed that shitty book I wrote.” He replied. He’d overheard you mention it a few times and talk like someone who truly understood the subject matter.
“I’ve read it a couple times, I really do enjoy it.” You replied, setting down the cups in your hands, “you should be proud of your work Jess, it’s really incredible.”
“You too,” He finally said after a long pause, “your talented, your art pieces are really something. Almost makes up for you being a terrible roommate.”
“Hey! Would a terrible roommate have come here with you?” You asked. This was the most you and Jess had really gotten along with each other since you moved in and you were enjoying the chance to really talk to him.
“They would have forced me to go in their place,” he replied, obviously insinuating your brother.
“Oh, I’ve got no control over Chris,” you moved over to the desk that they’d converted into a makeshift bar top, checking for empty bottles of wine. In among them was your favorite red and you realized than that you’d been sipping it all night. Jess had gotten drinks for the both of you when you’d first arrived and you hadn’t even realized that the wine was that until you were standing there holding the bottle. “This is my favorite.”
“I know,” Jess commented, “I asked Matt to get it for tonight.”
You couldn’t wrap your mind around his admission, whether because you were slightly tipsy or because the evening wasn’t quite going the way you had expected. “How’d you know?”
“I remember you bringing it home a couple months ago, you said you couldn’t believe the wine store had it and that it was your favorite.” Jess recalled. You’d been so excited that night you had poured Chris and Jess both glasses and insisted they each had some.
“Sorry I just...I didn’t even know you were paying attention.”
“I’m a writer,” Jess shrugged, “I have an eye for detail.”
You laughed and nodded your head, replacing it on the desktop. You wanted to say more about it, ask him what other details he might have noticed about you, maybe even mention a few that you had noticed about him, but this didn’t quite feel like the time yet. Maybe soon, hopefully soon, but just not yet. For now, cleaning up Truncheon after a party and talking about stuffy rich people who thought they were cultured because they liked indie books was good enough.
