I couldn’t agree more with your statement about pro Palestinian argument turning into antisemitic dog whistles as well as the way you are treated when people find out that you are Jewish. I have the exact same experience and we’re far from being the other ones. I’m glad you pointed that out

Yeah it’s really upsetting. People try to act like antisemitism is in the past and nazism isn’t a real problem anymore and they are more comfortable then ever asking “the Jewish question”. Any conflict that happens in Israel just encourages people to share their antisemitic thoughts. The hatred and hysteria against Jewish people has its roots so deep in society it’s hard to imagine it will go away for the foreseeable future. All we can do is live proudly as Jewish people in the world and try to spread awareness and hope.

aaah I'm put in an awkward place when folks send other people's fanart and I...don't like it 😅 like traditionally it's fandom etiquette to just scroll away when you see fanon/fanart you don't like, but when I'm put on the spot like this and have my work directly compared to it...welp.

While it's nice to see more recognition to possible queer readings of marginalized supers, I'm wary of how mainstream queerness has been used to pinkwash adaptations of the more racialized aspects of the character in question. Superman is an allegorical analog for a white-passing Jewish immigrant, but in MAWS those themes are universalized to being just "different". There's a whole episode where Clark's marginalization is likened to that of a gay couple, and how he's forced out of the closet because having boundaries and privacy hurts his friends' feelings. Never once in the show is he likened to immigrants or people of color who experience xenophobia.

I haven't watched X-Men '97, but I do find it troubling that Sunspot- whose very origin involves him experiencing anti-Black violence- has his marginalization likened to just queer struggles. A non-Black actor has yet again been casted to portray him. Just another example of how Sunspot in particular has been gradually getting whitewashed in new takes. It's just with queerness now too.

I think this is why it kind of gets to me when people read my "wholesome" Superman-comic-about-losing-parts-of-yourself-to-xenophobia as a trans allegory. It's like whitewashing via pink kryptonite.

My midterm for my fibers class! All naturally dyed, and the embroidery took forever. The prompt was more or less “do something with color,” so I thought I’d do the story of Noah with the rainbow.

I'm being recommended videos from hijabis about islam again, and I'm watching them and boy, I'm not a muslim nor am I a woman, but I feel a lot of kinship with them - especially reverts. It's so odd (in a good way) seeing hijabis talk about how rewarding hajab is, how confident they feel, how it brings them closer to g-d because that's how I have felt ever since wearing kippah. I absolutely love that mitzvah and I can't imagine not doing it, and it's just so cool to see hijabis feel the same exact way about hijab that I do about kippah.

And about reverts, I found one who cried because she can't pray around her family because she's a secret muslim and it just... it strikes a chord with me because, again, I feel the same way about judaism. I was secret and stealth about this for years now until I couldn't hide it anymore. I feel for her, and I wish her only the best. We are so different in many ways, but not in the way we feel.

Something about that brings me even more security in my own journey. I'm happy for all of us.

This wave of people joining “creators for Palestine” has me really frustrated.

I have no issue with supporting the right to safety and freedom for the people of Palestine and I have no issue with wanting to help but I DO have an issue with the organizations that they are choosing to support.

One of the main organizations is the UNRWA, a confirmed Hamas puppet. The UNRWA is actively stealing aid from civilians, and members were actively a part of the October 7th massacre and held hostages in their homes. Why would you want to send them money?!?!?

The amount of misinformation and disinformation that is being spread at the moment is absolutely appalling. Israel isn’t “not sending enough aid”, Hamas is attacking humanitarian aid crossings and stealing the aid that they do let in.

In many of the cases of these creators, I do believe that they have only the best intentions but they are choosing to support a terror organization rather than actually helping the people they claim to care about.

There are also so many people denying the very legitimate REASONS that Israel is doing what they’re doing. I’m not saying I support everything they are doing but I understand why they’re doing it. If you want safety and freedom for the Palestinian people, you have to support the destruction of Hamas. There will be no peace until they are gone. It’s really a simple matter when you strip it down to the basics (not the conflict itself, that’s very complicated, but the reality of the current situation regarding any hope for peace).

Anyway… I now have to decide if I’m going to unfollow all of these creators whose work otherwise brings me joy. They are contributing to the false narrative and waving a literal imperial flag under the guise of “indigenous liberation” (don’t even get me started on the stupid fucking watermelons…)

If anyone has any advice about how to deal with this (tips on separating the content from the creator perhaps) or people who ARE doing good work and are actually helping the situation, please let me know.

This post is most specifically about SMOSH but it applies to a lot of creators. I’m so tired, and I can’t even begin to imagine how the Jewish people in those circles are feeling. People have been calling for Noah Grossman to be fired for being Jewish a zionist for months now, this cannot be helping that situation. I want him to know that the people with critical thinking skills and fucking basic understanding of the complicated history and current situation in the Middle East support him.
