Welp. I've talked before about how parts of the Jared stan lane have fake woke, dino, pseudoliberal tendencies while they're actually very narrow minded and anti-progressive and anti-diversity wankers. They sure are going hard openly embracing homophobic and fascist dog whistle tactics aimed against Destiel.

They're screaming and kicking and yelling against their own irrelevance. Nobody cares that you hate Destiel, Susan.

Worse, though, some from the staff of jibcon are full on embracing homophobic dog whistles, concern trolling, and fascism. They, and the Jared stans, resemble the book banning efforts targeted against LGBTQ books in libraries and schools going on in different states in the US right now. It's the same. Underlying. Mentality. It makes THEM uncomfortable. So nobody else should be able to have access. THEY don't like it so it has to go. The arguments are also relying on a vile level of demonizing the entire Destiel lane, which is extra gratuitous and gross and hilarious when you consider all the hatred that Jared stan accounts have been spewing onto the internet on multiple platforms non-stop.

The real world political climate makes it even more alarming that this is happening in a fandom space. It's a reflection of real world problems and it's leaking in. I do not want to hear your "shipping isn't activism" and that it doesn't matter how welcoming fandom spaces are. It matters.

This is malicious and the goal is to full on ban Destiel from fandom spaces and make shippers feel unwelcome. Someone even made the slippery slope argument, and tried to blame the existence of fanart.

So let me slippery slope this--if they get their own way banning Destiel at cons, the fandom fascist anti-Destiel brigade will start a concerted effort to try to silence it online too.

A jibcon staffer sought out a fan on twitter who got blocked at jibcon from having her fanart signed, despite Jensen's willingness to sign Destiel fanart (and he signed others). The fan got Misha to sign it and was comforted. Jensen never even got a chance to see it.

The jibcon staffer replied to this fan with a screed shaming them for refusing to hide their "boy love," used the "I have a gay friend" excuse, and collective accused every Destiel shipper who ever asked to have fanart signed, by two actors who have been more than willing and both have been kind and supportive towards shippers in fandom spaces, of only trying to "look cool" and using it as a "toy."

While the usual suspects from the Jared stan lane opportunistically tried to incite even more hatred aimed against the Destiel lane and used homophobic dog whistle tactics and concern trolling.

Someone calling all j2 fans "moderate, sensible" and all Destiel shippers "Gross" is classic dog whistling and is a tactic used by the far right while they attempt to paint compassion and inclusion and equity as an extremist position.

Do not even try to tell me this isn't homophobic fandom style fascism.

This whole thing is manufactured targeted drama. People from the staff and the little fascist stans targeted a fan who dared to make public her objections for how she was treated due to her PG rated Destiel fanart. Who had her fanart blocked, based on flimsy, targeted, biased excuses. And because afterwards she posed with the fanart with Misha, and she--oh horror of horrors--flipped up her middle finger.

F*CK OFF everyone who thinks that constitutes "violence" or "abuse" or "rudeness."

She had EVERY RIGHT.

Liveblogging the stupidity (I'm using the tag jibcongate if you want to mute it or read along and eat popcorn) and some bitter Jared stan who has worked cons decided to open their big mouth and made a thread that amounted to claiming "Jensen and Misha are faking it with all of you and are actually disgusted by all your fanart. They only sign it because they're scared you'll beat them up on social media" and apparently Jensen and Misha are so impoverished they need to sign Destiel fanart or they might starve. And that the reason Jensen and Misha keep returning to Jibcon is that they are "treated respectfully" so I guess CE Con, which doesn't have a policy to block PG rated fanart from Jensen and Misha, is just a bunch of disrespectful meanies who are cruel to actors and jibcon is their only safe haven to save them from The Destiel Menace.

Also claiming that Misha had his arm twisted by the fan in question to sign her art when anyone who read the fan's story knows that when Misha heard that the art had been blocked from signing, he was indignant and said "of course it's allowed!" And was delighted and very sweet to the fan.

Flipping the bird as a peaceful general defiance gesture has been used in countless photo ops is now being treated like an act of violence. (Meanwhile the entire cast of The Boys including Jensen Ackles, use it as part of the branding of a highly successful show but do go off how a Destiel shipper is a terrorist for a general defiance gesture that was not an attack on any individual).

The homophobic Jared stan then compared PG rated Destiel fanart to demanding piggy-back rides from actors.

And concluded this stunning example of incisive brilliance with IF ALL DESTIEL FANART IS BANNED IT WILL BE ALL YOUR FAULT, HELLERS.

Because little fandom fascists don't really have anything else but victim blaming and outrageously obvious homophobia and faux moralistic outrage that has the exact same vibe as ultra conservatives screaming THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!! while banning drag readings and trying to remove LGBTQ books from libraries.

They're really really REALLY showing who they are. Really. All their uwu talk about inclusion has been nothing but a smokescreen to cover up their actual biases and all the poison is spilling out louder and louder.

So far, the jibcon staff have compared a piece of cute, soft, PG rated fanart of the type Jensen and Misha have signed, happily, cheerily, even praised, 56362262 times, to: handing an actor a sex toy, stalkers planning to harm actors, crowd control problems, flash mobs, asking actors in photo ops to participate in inappropriately intimate physical contact, and "dangerous situations."

In this entire jibcon drama, the con organizer, her sister, con staff, and the homophobic dog whistle anti-destiel brigade, keep hiding behind "this is for the protection of the guests" as if Destiel fanart is...idk...the same thing as a fan who aims to do bodily harm. That's a tactic too. And not once have I seen con staff/homophobic dog whistling stans acknowledge what Jensen and Misha want.

So let me pin up another reminder: they have both signed countless pieces of Destiel fanart. PG rated, cute, sometimes a little bit suggestive at a very low rating, definitely shippy in feeling, not highly sexualized, it's them being cute, or it's an embrace, or it's Cas pulling Dean out of hell.

They have signed and signed and signed at countless cons. They've grinned and laughed and gone oh wow that's really cool. There are countless countless positive stories from Destiel shippers about having Jensen and Misha sign Destiel fanart.

So on top of everything else, it's insulting to Jensen and Misha how homophobic people think they can USE THEM as their pitiful excuse for this kind of gatekeeping.

It pisses them off and scares them that Jensen and Misha don't share their hate.

UPDATE: the jibcon staffer posted another public missive, tripling down on blaming the queer fan who was the target of homophobia and reiterating the virtue signaling about uwu be kind while not once acknowledging the hurt caused to queer fans at jibcon. It was poorly worded, narcissistic, full of even more homophobic dog whistles. Worst non apology I have ever read.

The owner of the fan art in question posted a statement in response. It was eloquent and gracious and clear and gentle.

It’s increasingly self-evident which “side” is the problem here.

Any spn stans on twitter dot com who continue to valorize the behavior of the jibcon organizer and her staff are participating in homophobic dog whistles and fascist tactics, and some of them are Very Big Accounts who create fandom content like gifsets and so on, to give you an idea how systemic this is. It’s not just small bitter Jared stan anti-Destiel accounts. It’s BNF’s too. It’s not fixable, it’s not going to go away, they aren’t going to realize the hurt they’re causing because they don’t care. So at the least, I wanted to acknowledge the problem. It’s coming systemically from the jibcon management, and it’s reflected in the dialogue from certain stans.

Also a reminder on the flaw in "just ignore the hate." Sure, we can make fun of small accounts being stupid to identify and illustrate biases and othering language. But notice how it doesn't just say on little twitter standom accounts. It's systemic. Con organizer and staff. Fans spend a lot of money to go to jibcon. They are consumers and customers. That is a contract, between consumer and provider. Fans deserve better than to be treated this way. Not just because this is transactional and jibcon screwed up, and has violated its promise, its contract, with fans, because that's just one way this is systemic and these attitudes are in places with real power.

So I'm going to make fun of the anti-Destiel shutdown arguer who has on their profile equating shipping to being a hater, I'm going to laugh at it, but that exact garbage mentality affects and infects things on a systemic level.

For me personally it's worse when certain behaviors come from Jensen's lane because I'm a Jensen fan, and I'd like to feel safe there and I don't. I don't expect perfection from any lane and never have I ever claimed perfection. I'm going to make a wild suggestion here and say--hang on this is wild--that homphobic dog whistles and fascist tactics used to try to silence a queer ship is not a good look.

Let me describe a twitter exchange I saw because I think it helps for people to learn how to identify that kind of language and tactic.

Jensen fan A is against fanart being signed. They victim blame by saying it's all the fault of queer fans for objecting to how badly they were treated, for objecting to self-evident biases. They also argue "fans assume endorsement of their views" if fanart gets signed. Unpack that, they're annoyed that queer fans feel any kind of welcome from their favorite actors. They don't like it, so it bothers them that the actors aren't filled with disgust. They don't want reminders.

They then tut tut on how "messy" it is that queer fans who ship a queer ship can have fanart signed at all. MESSY.

Let that language sink in for a moment.

It's messy for fans to be allowed to have fanart signed.

Another fan tries to talk some sense into Jensen Fan A. Jensen Fan A resorts to blame pushing. No they're not spreading hatred by wanting queer voices silenced in fandom, everyone else is the problem.

Jensen Fan A then proceeds to brag "neutrality is my thing."

THERE!! IT IS! THERE!! IT IS!!!!!!!!!! THE FALSE CLAIMS OF NEUTRALITY WHILE THEY ARE USING FASCIST SILENCING TACTICS AGAINST QUEER FANS

And this bs false neutrality flag btw has been used as a dog whistle in spn fandom since ancient times. I was there the day spn fandom started using it. "I'm NEUTRAL so I'm going to use passive aggressive dog whistles to be patronizing at you about your queer ship" has been utilized in spn fandom since three US presidents ago.

The exchange then proceeds to more victim blaming. "A solution to the controversy you created."

Jensen Fan B enters the conversation only to chime in to call the silencing and fascists tactics "common sense."

This..is absolutely chilling.

I'm not meaning to trivialize what marginalized groups are facing in the real world. It's that I have seen this same mentality aimed against marginalized groups over real world issues, to try to silence them, victim blame, vilify, and incite more hatred. And I've seen these tactics used in fandom space repeatedly aimed at a queer ship and at queer fans who ship a queer ship.

What is WRONG with people that they don't understand that seeing this play out in fandom space, a space that should be welcoming to all who enter in good faith, a space that offers a haven when the real world literally puts people's lives in danger for who they are, is HORRIFYING.

Reading through new developments on stan twitter discourse on the jibcon related drama and having a big I TOLD YOU SO moment.

I TOLD YOU. The goal would be to ban it outright. I TOLD YOU this would be weaponized into an excuse to attempt to shut out Destiel fanart.

Nobody has yet, but Daniela, the con organizer, basically threatened to take all the toys away if queer people and allies didn't stop pointing out the problem with how queer fans were treated, and then the concern trolling dog whistling conformists showed up and started arguing with a fan who reasonably pointed out, why is this an issue if the actors are willing to sign the art, and then a homophobic busybody stan suggested all fan art should be banned and they only allow photographs for signing.

Slippery slope indeed.

And some people think we can't call this fascist behavior.
