Headcanon: Post JL-endfight

As you probably know, Barry reverse time at the end of the JL movie. Not only did he do that but before that he kept running at very high speed to be able to charge up Victor. Something that must be pretty taxing, especially since he says that he can’t keep it up, meaning he can’t run at that speed much longer. It must have taken a lot of energy. Before he can charge Victor, he is shot by a Parademon and their weapon are energy weapons, so it’s more a burn than the wound from a projectile, you can even see his suit looking a bit melted (even looks like it’s attached to his skin.. ouch).

He’s also crashing when he gets shot and running in that speed, he must have cracked a few bones (just got the wind knocked out of you, my ass). Healing all those injuries enough to able him to run again, must have taken some energy.

Then he’s off to do his enormous feat of reversing time and saving the world from turning to dust before he charges Victor so he can fully integrate with the Mother Boxes. Since he said he couldn’t keep up the running he’d done before for much longer, which was considerably slower speed, this must have zapped a tremendous amount of energy. And we actually don’t see Barry again until after the others have killed Steppenwolf and sent his body back to Darkseid and when we see him then he’s visibly breathing heavily, something he normally doesn’t. This is very much a possible sign of his exhaustion.

However next scene we see him in he looks fine.

This is where me headcanon come in. I see it as Barry still being hyped up about it all, he has run faster than the speed of light, after all. So once they’re in the plane and they’re safe, Barry will just collapse. No warning, no nothing. He’s walking, joking, being his normal Barry self and then he just falls to the floor. Initial examination shows that Barry is quite literally burnt out. They do what they can while still on the plane, but it’s not until they’re back in Gotham and the Batcave medbay that he can get some proper help. He’ll most likely be out for a day or two and will get nutrition either intravenously (peripheral parenteral nutrition) or through a nasogastric tube (that the tube they put through the nose and down your throat into your stomach). Once he wakes up it will most likely take another day or so before he can manage a full day out of bed.

But hey, he did save the world.
