Lmaooooooooooo
I just got ROASTED by Indeed.
So I’m casually looking for a new job as my current one is a little stagnant. I found one that looked interesting so I clicked it. I have 10+ years of experience in my current field (which is the same the one from the job posting). I have a college degree. I have not worked in professional kitchens. And the job I am applying to has nothing to do with food or the service industry, but is a specialized career field.
This is what happened when I clicked the job posting.
Tumblr media
LMAOOOOOOOOOO
No shade at all against service workers—and def none to anyone working in any professional kitchen.
But there is something so funny about this.
It’s like indeed became a boomer who just screamed at me “NO MASTER’S DEGREE????? Have you considered FLIPPING BURGERS?!”
🤣🤣🤣

Is ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) just a farce that's supposed to make us feel like the government actually gives a shit about people with disabilities? Cuz after talking to a lawyer, I found out you can disclose your disability to your employer, fill out all the necessary ADA forms for them, and they can and will still deny you accommodations. And then they can and will find any reason to fire you because you've told them they need to put more resources into you. According to the lawyer, ADA does not protect you from being fired for your disability if the employer says that your disability negatively impacts your ability to do the job.
For example, I was diagnosed with ADHD in October of 2022. Got a new job that November, disclosed my ADHD in January of 2023, and then was fired within 2 weeks of disclosing. They used the ADA questionnaire form to prove that I couldn't do the job. My training was never completed, and because of that (and ADHD that I had only just started medicating for), I made a big mistake and someone else caught it before I could. Almost cost the company a lot of money.
All the lawyers I spoke to said I didn't have a case because I made that 1 big mistake. It didn't matter that they outright denied my accommodation request from my psychiatrist. It didn't matter that they never finished my training and set me up for failure. Because I made 1 mistake not even 3 months into my new position, and because I had essentially given them a form that said I couldn't do the job without accommodations, they were within their right to fire me.
It's now almost August 2023 and I still have not found a new job. So what the fuck is the point of ADA?
Update: Finally landed a decent sounding job! I'm not going to disclose my disability this time. At least, not officially with HR.

✧.* some job searching advice *ೃ༄
I haven't coded in many manyy days oops BUT I have spent that time updating my resume and writing cover letters to send to some of my friends who are helping me with internal referrals!
Here's some job searching stuff I learned:
Most people get interviews because of connections/friends
Ask anyone and everyone you can for an internal referral (ask nicely ofc)
Once they submit the referrals make sure you start researching and learning about the company and what they do
If they have a specific product, make an account and play with it
Make a list of things you like about the service and things you would change
Recruiters/Interviewers LOVE to hear what you know and think about the companies product it gives you a HUGE adv over others
I know it feels like a ton of work but trust me QUALITY over QUANTITY when it comes to applying to jobs. Do your research!
For those of you in the job search good luck and I hope you get that job you want! (´・ᴗ・`)♡

This morning my sister helped me update my resume. I applied at two local Starbucks, and I really hope I hear something soon. It’s a job I really enjoyed, and would like to do again. I’m so nervous, it’s been so long since I applied for a job, and the entire process is so stressful. I have to figure out where else to apply to, I need to get out there so I find something.

I applied for a job as a library specialist in a small town outside Gainesville, and tomorrow morning I have to take a test there as part of the hiring process. I was a bit concerned about the commute, but I just drove there and back and it took less than 25 minutes each way. I left my apartment at 10:40, got on the I-75 a little after 10:50 and arrived at the library a little after 11:00. I didn't stop to go inside, I just drove past and doubled back around. It's a real small town, super rural, but not in an unsettling way. It's not abandoned, it's quaint. My main cocnern was that it might be in Krazy Konservative Kountry, but this summer the town council voted unanimously to recognize June as pride month; so shines a good deed in a weary world. I got back on the road at 11:05, and pulled into my apartment at 11:26, so all told the drive's not too bad, not too bad at all. Most of my time was spent waiting at stoplights. This job would be a fantastic opportunity for me, so I really hope it works out. I don't know how many other people have applied, but I do know that last year the test was given at the big library in Gainesville, population 140k, so the fact that they're holding tomorrow's test in a town of less than 1k seems to me like this branch has less competition. Fingers crossed!

It's wild to me how ridiculously expensive it is to live in the US on your own. You have to have a roommate or a live-in partner to split bills (both of which I've tried and it always ends terribly). The only way you can live on your own and not live paycheck to paycheck is if you have a high paying job. And those don't hire often, and when they do, they're super picky.
Not to mention even getting a job that isn't retail-based is its own form of Hell. Between recruiters/companies ghosting job applicants, AI resume picking bots trained to toss out "ethnic" sounding names and cherry picking keywords, & redundant application processes (you apply on LinkedIn, only to be redirected to another website to submit your resume, only to find out that you still have to manually input your entire resume), what are we supposed to do? How is anyone supposed to survive like this?

I look forward to the opportunity to meet you face to face and build a lasting professional relationship that will be sung of in ballads long after our civilization is become dust and ashes.
