Musique de chambre allemande antérieure à Bach.

Voilà un coffret vraiment rare. Sur ces 3 merveilleux vinyles, et dans une interprétation virtuose, précise et élégante, Archiv n'a choisi (pour la sortie en cd en 1993, puis 2005) de ne retenir que des extraits :

Sauf erreur, ce qui manque n'a pas été repris sur d'autres cd ou compiles, sauf le Canon de Pachelbel. Et pourtant les pièces oubliées sont très belles :

Si ces musiciens ont tous influencés J.S. Bach, lui-même en retour s'est inspiré d’eux. Partant d'une pièce de Reincken, il compose la belle sonate BWV 965, jouée ici par Henk Bouman. Dans un texte très érudit, Goebel explique qu’en 1981 ces musiciens tout à fait remarquables et très appréciés en leur temps sont à tort considérés comme annonciateurs de Bach, rien de plus. C’est sans doute encore le cas aujourd’hui. Si le fameux canon de Pachelbel est très connu, et Buxtehude aussi, quand même, sans parler de Bach lui-même, on connaît moins Reincken, Rosenmüller,  Westhoff ou Schenck. Les deux sonates du premier sont vraiment d'une grande beauté. (Il existe aussi un beau disque Reincken par l'ensemble Les Cyclopes.) Goebel décrit ainsi la musique de Rosenmüller : « des adagios scandés, entremêlés de points d’orgue, (...) faisant fonction de transitions vers des mouvements lents pleins de mélodies vagabondes et de fugues mélancoliques. » Composée à Paris et jouée devant Louis XIV, la sonate de Westhoff dut être exécutée une seconde fois, sur l’ordre du roi, enthousiaste.

Au sujet de Schenck, voir aussi ce magnifique disque de Philippe Pierlot (uniquement en cd) avec son Ricercar Consort : Deutsche Barock Kantaten vol.V Label Ricercar, 1992 (pas facile à trouver !) et sur De Æternitate par le même Philippe Pierlot (2001, CD Mirare avec le contre-ténor Carlos Mena) on trouve une autre belle version de Reincken - Sonata for keyboard, No 1 in A.

Pour une fois Youtube ne me sera d'aucune aide pour les pièces manquantes. Au moins peut-on écouter l'équivalent du cd, c’est toujours ça :
