hi mr keating may i ask how was it like when you were a student in hellton?
Acon,
I'm answering in response to both you and @knoxious-overstreet's request to know what my days in school were like. As my wife said, a was quite a bit of a hell-raiser, with zero sense of hyperbole or sarcasm in the slightest. Please imagine me winking.
I did get in trouble quite a lot, but for reasons that are quite benign when you look back on it. I, of course, ran the Dead Poets Society back in my day, but it was never found out beyond the mention of it in my yearbook. However, a majority of the staff (including Mr. Nolan) did have their suspicions, but not enough to take any action.
The problems arose in the few pranks I pulled, much like Mr. Dalton has done before. Now, my personal (and morally correct) view on pranks is that they need to be ultimately harmless, and they were! But of course, playing a prank on a teacher is essentially the equivalent of a war crime according to Welton.
In hindsight, my streak of rebellion was just a matter of being a teenage boy. Did I raise more hell in college? What earned me my title of "thigh man"? Those will remain a mystery to you, my friends.
I could talk in depth about the state of Welton education and what I was taught, but I believe that's a story for another day, and another very seperate conversation.
Best,
John Keating
PS. I believe Mr. Overstreet wanted @phonecall-fromgod to see how I behaved as well.

NSW Police consult community on gay hate crime inquiry findings
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/nsw-police-consult-community-on-gay-hate-crime-inquiry-findings/
NSW Police consult community on gay hate crime inquiry findings
NSW Police has met with a committee of LGBTQIA+ community leaders as it considers the findings of the state’s LGBTIQ hate crime inquiry.
The 18-month Special Commission of Inquiry into gay and trans hate crimes reported in December.
Fifteen out of 19 of its recommendations relate to police. NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb started Task Force Atlas to review them.
Now, NSW Police have established the LGBTQIA+ Consultative Committee to assist them with the job.
Last week, the committee met for the first time at Qtopia Sydney, the city’s LGBTQIA+ museum located at the old Darlinghurst Police Station.
At the meeting were First Mardi Gras member Barry Charles and Qtopia board member Garry Wotherspoon (above, left and right). Both men gave evidence to the hate crime inquiry.
ACON and Mardi Gras leaders also attended, as did Scott Johnson’s brother Steve.
The community leaders met with top police representatives, including Commissioner Webb.
Independent MP Alex Greenwich was there too, and said the meeting at the Qtopia site was significant.
“46 years ago gay men, trans women, sex workers, LGBTIQA+ people and our allies were held in cells at the Darlinghurst Police Station,” he said.
“Today, I was joined by two men who were part of that peaceful protest that was met with police brutality, 78ers Barry Charles and Garry Wotherspoon, at the liberated former police station that’s now Qtopia, Australia’s first Queer Museum.
“A powerful reminder of the strength and determination, through adversity, of our community.”

Hate crime inquiry reported in December
The Special Commission of Inquiry into LGBTIQ hate crimes investigated suspected hate crime deaths between 1970 and 2010. Commissioner Justice John Sackar released his report in December.
Of the 34 deaths investigated, Justice Sackar found there was “objectively reason to suspect that LGBTQIA+ bias was a factor” in 21 deaths. He ruled “LGBTQIA+ bias was a factor” in four.
Sackar said “indifferent, negligent, dismissive or hostile” conduct of police officers exacerbated the impact of the violence.
He found police responses to the deaths often mirrored the “shameful homophobia, transphobia, and prejudice” present in both the force and society at the time.
Sackar was also scathing of NSW Police’s approach to the inquiry. He accused the force of being “adversarial or unnecessarily defensive” during the inquiry.
‘Many years of fighting for justice’
NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb (below) said the LGBTQIA+ committee will ensure the police force addresses the inquiry’s recommendations.
“While some recommendations align closely with initiatives already under way, Task Force Atlas will thoroughly assess the recommendations as part of ongoing efforts to enhance the service and accountability of the NSW Police Force,” she said.
“We continue to be committed to improving the ways the organisation responds to LGBTQIA+ concerns. Community members’ involvement in those discussions is vital.”
The committee will meet again in October.
NSW Police Minister Yasmin Catley acknowledged “the enduring pain and suffering” experienced by hate crime victims, their families and loved ones and “their many years of fighting for justice.”
Image: NSW Police
“The LGBTQIA+ Consultative Committee will enable community voices and experiences to help shape the NSW Police Force’s response to the Special Commission of Inquiry,” she said.
“I know that the NSW Police Force, under the leadership of Commissioner Karen Webb, is deeply committed to learning from the past and continuing to strengthen its relationship with the LGBTIQA+ community into the future. I know this work is and will continue to be taken seriously.”

Police taskforce to respond to NSW hate crimes inquiry
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/police-taskforce-to-respond-to-nsw-hate-crimes-inquiry/
Police taskforce to respond to NSW hate crimes inquiry
Tumblr media
The New South Wales Police Force (NSWPF) has launched “Taskforce Atlas” under the direction of Deputy Police Commissioner Peter Thurtel to implement recommendations from the Special Commission of Inquiry into LGBTIQ Hate Crimes.
Taskforce Atlas will respond to Recommendations 10 and 11 that were handed down by Special Commissioner the Honourable Justice John Sackar when he delivered his final report in December last year.
Recommendation 10 stipulates that the NSWPF “conduct a systematic review or audit of all unsolved homicides pertaining to the period 1970 to 2010, including an audit of what exhibits have been retained in relation to each death and their current location.”
“That review should result in appropriately and accurately recorded information about each matter so that there is a real prospect of all matters being reviewed thereafter on a regular basis, every two years,” Justice Sackar wrote in his report.
“This may require the scope of such future reviews to be limited in an appropriate manner to ensure regularity.”
Recommendation 11 stipulates that, following the review in Recommendation 10, the NSW Police Unsolved Homicides Team should “promptly identify exhibits that should be submitted or resubmitted for forensic testing in light of possible technological advances.”
“This process should recur as part of the two yearly review in each matter referred to in Recommendation 10,” the report states.
NSW Police on Taskforce Atlas
“In relation to Public Recommendation 10, the NSWPF has established a working group through Taskforce Atlas to develop a process for conducting the recommended systematic review or audit of the several hundred unsolved homicides pertaining to the period 1970 to 2010, including the methodology, criteria and required resourcing for the audit or review,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“This process requires careful consideration, and will inform the anticipated timeframes for completion.
“This process will also inform anticipated timeframes for the completion of Public Recommendation 11 in relation to identifying exhibits to be submitted or resubmitted for forensic testing in the light of possible technological advancements following the audit / review process outlined in Public Recommendation 10.
“NSWPF will provide a further update on these anticipated timeframes as part of the NSW Government Response to the Special Commission by the middle of this year.
“The NSWPF Unsolved Homicide Team otherwise continues to carry out its important work conducting investigations into historical unsolved murders, suspicious deaths and disappearances.
“The NSWPF reiterates its commitment to learning from the findings outlined by the Special Commission.”

Rolls-Royce to Upgrade Six Platform Supply Vessels with Battery Power
The vessels are of Rolls-Royce UT 771 WP design.
Rolls-Royce Commercial Marine has received an order to deliver battery-powered energy systems for six platform supply vessels owned by a joint venture involving U.S.-based SEACORE Marine and China Cosco Shipping Group.
SEACOR Marine Holding announced earlier this month that they have entered a Joint Venture with China Cosco Shipping Group, called SEACOSCO, with the intention of owning over eight offshore vessels currently laid up by the Cosco Guangdong shipyard in China, where the vessels were built. The ships were originally ordered in 2013 and 2014.
The order with Rolls-Royce covers six of the vessels.
SEACOR, which has its head office in Louisiana, USA, will take full operational responsibility for the vessels and add them to their current fleet.
The power upgrade will include the Energy Storage Container System (ESSU); an upgrade of the existing Rolls-Royce ship design engineering package to match the new features; an upgrade of the Dynamic Positioning system (DP) and the ACON control system; and the new Rolls-Royce Energy Monitoring system, which will provide a complete overview of energy usage onboard.
In a press release from the company earlier this month, John Gellert, President, Chief Executive Officer and Director, SEACOR, said: “Combining a proven and advanced design, best in category accommodations, and the innovative Rolls-Royce battery system, these vessels will be highly marketable across all major offshore energy regions worldwide.”
Asbjørn Skaro, Director Digital & Systems – Commercial Marine, Rolls-Royce, said: “We are looking forward to seeing these great vessels in operation and invested in for the future. These are advanced and modern ships, and we strongly believe that the new energy system onboard will make them stand out from the crowd in the market. They will receive an upgrade that benefits both the environment and the economic efficiency of the ships.”
The vessels are of Rolls-Royce UT 771 WP design, and have the characteristic Wave Piercing bow. The bow reduces wave resistance during rough conditions, resulting in a smoother ride than traditional designs, reduced fuel consumption and increased onboard safety.
In addition to having provided the ship design, Rolls-Royce also originally delivered an extensive package of ship equipment and systems to the vessels now being prepared for an environmental upgrade. This new order for six offshore vessels – with an option for further two – follows deliveries or orders for battery systems for seven other vessels.

hi mr keating, i have a lil bit of a problem. see i take literature as a subject and i love it but my teacher is this old ass cancer patient looking dude and i swear at some point he wrote “he is a tumor probably” on the board when we were going through poems.
legit he also cannot hear what me and my friends are saying cause we would ask a question and he’d just scold us cause he wouldn’t be able to hear us properly and think that were being problematic.
he also has severe memory problems istg i have the four of the same worksheets.
what should i do?
Acon,
If your teacher's current mental/ medical state is prohibiting you from learning properly, I suggest bringing these issues up with an administrator or someone in power. Your school should be able to properly address the issue in terms of your teacher's potential health issues as well as the way your class is run.
If they're able to properly accommodate his hearing + memory issues without causing him his job, then no harm done!
Good luck,
John Keating

Advocates respond to NSW Hate Crime Inquiry report
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/advocates-respond-to-nsw-hate-crime-inquiry-report/
Advocates respond to NSW Hate Crime Inquiry report
Tumblr media
The report of the Special Commission of Inquiry into LGBTIQ Hate Crimes has been welcomed by LGBTQIA+ advocates, who call on the NSW Police Force to action the report’s recommendations
In its three-volume report released today, Commissioner Justice John Sackar made a number of case-specific recommendations. These include establishing fresh inquests into the deaths of Scott Miller, Paul Rath, Richard Slater and Carl Stockton; reinvestigating the death of Gerald Cuthbert; reviewing DNA and other evidence relating to Crispin Dye and Kenneth Brennan; and correcting the Register of Births, Deaths and Marriages for Peter Sheil, Russell Payne, Graham William Paynter, Samantha Raye and Peter Baumann.
Justice Sackar said it was confronting for all those involved to delve into the suspected homicides of 32 people, including many deaths that were “lonely and terrifying”.
“Each homicide was suspected of being motivated, at least in part, by hatred for a person simply because of their identity,” Justice Sackar added.
“It was – and is – confronting to face the reality that, despite all efforts, many of these deaths remain unsolved.”
READ MORE: Hate Crime Inquiry examines Wendy Waine murder
ACON CEO Nicolas Parkhill said the special commission had “shone an important light on a dark time in NSW’s history”.
“The implementation of the Commission’s recommendations with regards to these cases will provided much needed answers and closure for the victims’ families and loved ones,” he said.
“ACON calls on the NSW Government to ensure these recommendations are fully implemented.”
The report also laid out 12 recommendations aimed at improving shortcomings in the investigative practices of the NSW Police Force, particularly in relation to unsolved homicides and bias-related crimes. These include reviewing evidence and conducting forensic testing in light of the latest technological advances; conducting a systemic review of all unsolved cases and setting up a framework for regular review and reporting; updating records and databases of hate crimes; and providing adequate resourcing for staff and/or units to deal with bias-related crimes.
The NSW Police Force was also called upon to enhance the training and education provided to all its officers relating to the LGBTQ community, including cultural awareness, LGBTQ hate crimes and trauma-informed communication and engagement.
While the report did not call for an apology from the NSW Police Force, it did urge the NSW Police Force to consider the value of sincerely and unequivocally acknowledging the shortcomings of their work in the past.
READ MORE: ‘I have no sympathy’: Justice finally to be served for Scott Johnson
“We note in the report the Commission’s detailed observations about its engagement with the NSW Police Force, and the challenges the Commission experienced in those interactions,” Mr Parkhill said.
“We are hopeful that the recommendations in this report are adopted in full so that the victims, their loved ones and LGBTQ communities get the answer answers we deserve. We stand ready to work with the government and other agencies to ensure they are actioned.”
“Any apology will only be meaningful for community when recommendations that materially change practice and increase safety and access to justice have been implemented.”
Just.Equal spokesperson Rodney Croome also welcomed the recommendations for additional training for NSW police officers, but wanted law enforcement nationwide to work to eliminate bias.
“We urge police services around Australia to heed these recommendations and to ensure crime motivated by anti-LGBTQIA+ bias is no longer brushed under the carpet or overlooked,” Mr Croome said.
Independent Member for Sydney, Alex Greenwich MP, who helped secure the establishment of the inquiry, said the report provides a mandate for police and legal reform.
“The multi-partisan support for the creation of the commission gives a mandate for all sides of the NSW Parliament to take the findings and recommendations seriously and act on them,” Mr Greenwich said.
Mr Greenwich said where discriminatory laws exist, discriminatory actions continue to prevail.
“Discriminatory laws that targeted the LGBTIQ community facilitated an environment where police and others treated us as second-class citizens and denied us justice because of who we love. The sad reality is many of these laws still exist today,” he said.
“LGBTIQ people in New South Wales should be protected in law, and members of parliament can show they take the report seriously by supporting my LGBTIQA+ equality bill when it comes to a vote early next year.
“I thank all the LGBTQ advocates and my colleagues who urged the government to instigate this special commission of inquiry. While the findings and recommendations will be sobering for police and other government agencies; I urge them to embrace the opportunity for positive reforms and not excuse the past.
“My thoughts are with the families and friends of those who were murdered and denied justice because of their sexuality or gender identity.”
“Through the bravery of these individuals, the true extent of the harm inflicted upon our community has been brought to light,” Mr Parkhill added.
“They are a beacon of inspiration for us all.”
