John Proudstar, Host of the Thunderbird
While John's base mutation is simply enhanced physical abilities (on par with a Super-Soldier like Steve Rogers or Isaiah Bradley) his greater power is his relation with the entity called Thunderbird, a being similar to the Phoenix that later possessed Jean Grey (and erroneously believed to be one and the same in some timelines). The Thunderbird not only enhances John's existing abilities, but allows him to manipulation energy (in the form of psychic lightning, much like the Phoenix's psychic flames) and imbue other objects with that power.
Believed killed during a mission, John--along with Sage, Morph, and young time-displaced Nathan Cable--formed an early, covert version of the team Cable would later head under the name X-Force.

Nightcrawler Being Held Prisoner By the Hellfire Club
Nightcrawler: Don't kill me! I have a family!
Sebastian Shaw: Ha! You think I give a damn about that?
Nightcrawler: Nein, that wasn't a plea for mercy. That was a warning.
Sebastian Shaw: Come again?
Storm, Wolverine, Colossus, Shadowcat, Banshee, and Thunderbird: (burst into the room with murder in their eyes)

X-Men #95 (Claremont & Wein/Cockrum, Oct 1975). The new team suffers their first casualty. It’s not quite as shocking as, say, Gwen’s death - but it does feel like a gauntlet has been thrown down. We’ve entered a new era of adventures and the stakes are higher.

The ultimate universe was real fucky, wasn't it? I was thinking about Ultimate Alpha Flight again.
It's most of the usual cast of characters from 616 Alpha Flight...and Jubilee. But Jubilee isn't the weird part here. You can direct your attention to Shaman and Snowbird. Snowbird is Dani Moonstar. Shaman is apparently John Proudstar. This might strike many as odd. Because neither of them comes from tribes within Canada. As a slightly less weird aside, Sasquatch is Rahne Sinclair, who is from Scotland. So DaniRahne is potentially alive in the 1610, and they're addicted to Wolverine drugs.
