This guy is an absolute legend.
From the iHop restaurant sign, to flamingo, to the genie from Aladdin... the creativity always leaves me in awe. I’ve tried to be original and humorous with my Halloween costumes throughout the years, but have never quite found that one spectacular idea.
Growing up, my sister and I always coordinated - cats, cheerleaders, red riding hood and the big bad (NC State) wolf (Listen, I was like 17 and sort of too old for trick-or-treating, but wanted free candy so... chaperoning???)
I’ve even been Link from the Legend of Zelda (I know, a super cute and girly choice, right? Oof) Last year, I was red riding hood, stealing some props from my younger sister’s previous costume and going for a look more suitable for a college-age girl, finally. And though I did receive some interesting comments from the residents of Myers Park, it will NEVER top the years of stories I have from my grandmother’s neighborhood.
“I’m so sorry!”
“What did they do to you?”
*intense staring, simultaneous dumping of all candy into my backpack*
and even “Is that part of your costume?” I sarcastically answered yes... “Really? Cool.” and then proceeded to explain my situation, further confusing the poor woman. Truly, I wonder, where did she think I was hiding it? For added context, I was wearing leggings.
Anyway, I’ve heard it all, including this lovely old couple I used to see every year, the drunk husband making comments that became more and more bizarre every year, and the polite wife smacking him and giving me handfuls of candy as compensation.
Again, another example of how living with a disability isn’t as bad as people think.
This year, we’re coming up on the holiday, and I have absolutely no idea what to dress up as. Any suggestions???
Additionally, you should definitely go check out Josh Sundquist. Not only does he always dress to impress, but is also a motivational speaker and stand-up (yes, stand-up) comedian. It’s nice to see someone like me represented well in the media, and someone who can give even a fully able-bodied audience a good laugh.
IT’S OFFICIALLY SPOOKY SEASON
