the ancestor's scales (part 2 chapter 2) - GODS
→ pairing: dragon prince! namjoon x dragon princess!poc OC
→ genre/au: fantasy, royalty au, smut, fluff, humor, soulmates au, explores a little of African/Korean mythology
→ summary: Isador's hand has been won by none other than Namjoon. Now weddings bells are ringing and she has to walk down the aisle.
->wc:1.5k
This is your descendant, Orunmila?”
“Yes.”
“She is who you picked to spread our messages?”
“Yes.”
Isador’s head was ringing. The voices were not helping in any way.
“Isador Abioye, are you awake child?”
The noise she made was something between a grunt and an affirmation. The ringing was becoming louder and was making everything fuzzy. She could’ve sworn someone had said Orunmila.
“I believe she is incapacitated. Give the girl some water from the healing fountain.”
Was she in the hospital? If so, why were they talking about the gods and healing fountains?
She felt a glass being pressed to her lips, and she tasted cold water. She drank it feverishly and felt a cooling sensation through her body. Her head stopped spinning and she was able to open her eyes to see two people standing above her. One looked concerned while the other was annoyed.
The concerned one was a well-built man with a muscular physique. He looked like her but much older. Dark brown skin, kinky hair that raised towards the sun, brown eyes, and full lips. She instantly knew this was Orunmila. The god of wisdom and the god that bestowed her grandmother with the strength to lead the dragons to a new home.
The annoyed one looked like someone from the Seoul Province. In fact, Isador thought the person looked a little like Namjoon. Piercing almond eyes, long legs that went on for miles, and chestnut tanned skin. She wasn’t sure who they were but they were connected to Namjoon’s ancestry. If Isador squinted hard enough from her view on the floor, she could see that their eyes were really the color of a fire.
Racking her mind, she finally came to realize that this was Jowangshin.
“Are you clear minded now, child?” Orunmila asked.
Isador nodded and pulled herself upright. This was when she noticed that she was in her human form. She had clearly been in her dragon form.
She took in her surroundings, noticing the different drawings and writings on the walls. Isador could see brightly colored dragons and stick figured humans on one of the walls. The humans had pickaxes and swords while the dragons lay motionless. Chained. Weak. It was the time before Graele saved her people.
As many times as she heard the story from her grandmother, nothing could compare to the actual horrors dragons must have faced. Her grandmother still had the scars.
“You have no survival skills, child,” the annoyed one said, obviously irked. “We could have killed you ten times over now.”
“Jowangshin.”
“I’m just saying, Orunmila. She’s not asked a single question about us.”
Isador fought against the urge to roll her eyes. In retrospect, Jowangshin was correct. She hadn’t asked a single question. Isador felt as if she didn’t need to ask anything because it was going to be answered anyway.
If these were truly the gods her grandmothers always talked about, then they were wise beyond their years. And Jowangshin looked as if they would get annoyed if Isador asked questions.
So her situation wasn’t the best.
Orunmila squatted to reach Isador and bowed his head. Isador did the same in respect.
“It is wonderful to finally meet a descendant of the courageous Gayle. I was blessed to give her the gifts of the elements and more.”
Isador withheld her incessant snort and let him continue.
“But, it has come to my attention that someone took those gifts away. Especially at a time when you would need it most. Are you truly the only one with the gift? How was it stolen from the family line of Gayle? The line of Orunmila?”
“Here we go with the narcissist-like attitude,”Jowangshin said snarkily.
Orunmila shared a secret eye-roll with Isador but ignored the other god. He waited for Isador to answer.
Isador was surprised, which would be an understatement. “The gods took away our gift once they realized that the dragons were on the brink of civil war because of the elemental power that only my family could have. Were you not a part of that decision?”
Orunmila shook his head and cast a knowing look at his companion. Isador still had no clue why they were here. They hadn’t done anything but patronize her very existence.
“I would not take away something I kindly bestowed on a descendant I found worthy. That is not the way of the Arushi.”
Isador wanted to point out that it actually was the way of the Arushi, but she saw Jowangshin glare at her from behind Orunmila and kept her retort to herself.
“Isador, let me introduce you to Jowangshin, the god of the underworld. She is kin to the one you have made vows to.”
Vows. Isador had completely forgotten about the wedding. Namjoon and her family were probably freaking out, meanwhile she was being held hostage by the most two confusing gods she had ever (and these were the only two) spoken with.
“Namjoon is a descendant of hers and was granted a gift that equals yours.”
Jowangshin cleared their throat and gave Orunmila a pointed look. “I can introduce myself ‘Mila. You don’t do me any justice anyway. Why’d you stop at god of the underworld and kin? I am much more than that.” The god had begun to rant in a language that Isador recognized as old Seoulan.
She had learned the language as a child, because her grandmothers liked to tease her. Of course, like everything else, she had to adopt the new languages of the provinces.
She waited for the god to calm down before asking, “What is this about? I need to go back to the wedding.”
“Listen, child,” Orunmila began. “As you know now, you are a harbinger for the gods. You are our messenger. When you saw the gift, that was our que to bring you here. We need questions answered, and so do you. Your wedding can wait.”
Maybe all three emotions packed into one is a good idea. But curiosity did kill the cat, but satisfaction brought it back.
“What questions do you have that you think I can answer? Aren’t the two of you supposed to be all-knowing?”
They both answered “No” at the same time.
Jowangshin crossed their arms and leaned on the wall, “One of the questions you already answered for us.”
“Great. Let’s hear the next ones so I can get back.”
Orunmila shared another look with Jowangshin–something that was starting to get on Isador’s last nerve.
“Our second question is-”
“Actually,” Isador interrupted. “I have a few questions of my own. Why am I the one with the gift if it was taken from us? Why do I have more than one gift?"
"All questions will be answered in due tim-"
"If I answered your question, then you answer mine."
Jowangshin lifted their eyebrows but Isador saw the minute smile growing on their face. " So the princess does have a spine," they said. "Fine. I'll answer why you have more than one gift. It's the same reason why Namjoon has more than one."
"His is hidden," Isador interrupted.
"Yes. For good reason. Where you are the harbinger of the gods, Namjoon is a death odemi."
Isador tilted her head in confusion.
"An odemi is a demon. A powerful one. There are many types but we’ll only focus on the death part.”
Orunmila shook his head at his companion. “Another time. Isador needs to go back.”
Jowangshin simply shrugged, “Isador, when you get back, everyone will be a little worried. You did fall almost 30 feet down-”
“What?”
“But thankfully,” they continued, ignoring Isador,” you were in your dragon form anyway. You will not tell anyone where you have been.”
Orunmila nodded, “I will say that it will be easy for you not to mention it. In fact, I will show you what you missed before we brought you here.”
The god placed his hand on her forehead. Isador felt a pulling sensation before a vivid image flashed before her eyes.
Oh gods.
“This is what I would have seen?” She couldn’t hide the panic in her voice.
Both of the gods nodded.
Her head began to pound again and her arm felt heavier.
“You are waking up, child. We’ll be calling you back soon.”
Orunmila stood to his full height. Isador hadn’t even realized she was still on the floor.
“Isador, I don’t like you that much. But I do like my descendant Namjoon. Stay near him and you will be protected,” Jowangshin said. “And practice your elemental gift. You will need it.”
The room was beginning to fade in and out, and the headache was turning into a migraine. Her arm was definitely feeling weird, and if Isador had to guess, it was broken.
Orunmila had one last thing to say though.
“History is repeating itself, Isador, but this time…the gods will not be on your side.”

Tumblr media
The door creaked open and music spilled out from inside the building, the lighting was dim inside the building even though it was only barely noon. The smell of cologne, alcohol, and cigarettes was all that Haneul could smell as Yeonjun pulled the girl into the building. Laughter swirled along with the music, all of it combined made Haneul’s head dizzy. Most of the inhabitants were more focused on their own things, as they continued to sip their drinks and talk with those who also sat with them.
what was this place, a speakeasy? As Haneul thought about it, it made sense, all the points pointed to it being a speakeasy and where there was a speakeasy, there were gods. Haneul jumped as the door closed behind them as if it was magic, and the bartender smiled at Yeonjun.
“Mr. Choi, what can I get for you?” He asked as if he knew Yeonjun like a friend
“I’ll have my usual.” Yeonjun answered before his eyes looked back over at Haneul, he opened his mouth again. “Make one for my friend, please.”
“Yes, sir.” The bartender nodded and turned to make the drinks
Haneul scanned the speakeasy as they stood there, it seemed off and almost magical. She watched the people who were already there. Most of them, Haneul guessed were humans which didn’t surprise her. There was a set of stairs that led to a upper floor and of course there was the bar but across the floor were lines of tables and booths that hung to the wall. Everyone talked in hush whispers but their eyes followed or watched Haneul as if they didn’t see a lot of new people in here. That was when a loud fit of laughter, coming from upstairs, broke the calm atmosphere. That laugh…it seemed familiar like Haneul knew the owner of that laugh.
“Haneul.” Yeonjun said and the girl turned to face him humming out a response. “Here’s your drink”
“Thank you.” Haneul replied, Yeonjun took a sip from the glass and Haneul brought the glass up to her nose
It smelt sweet and smelt alluring, Haneul closed her eyes as her mouth watered. Yeonjun stared at Hanuel confused on what she was doing.
“What are you doing?” He asked and Haneul opened her eyes furrowing her eyebrows as she answered. “It smells like nectar.”
Yeonjun just laughed and Haneul lifted the glass to her mouth and took a sip, it didn’t just smell like nectar, it was nectar. Haneul looked back at the staircase, she felt drawn towards there. Yeonjun grabbed Haneul’s wrist and started pulling her towards the stairs. The atmosphere changed as Yeonjun and Haneul walked up the stairs, it felt so much different than downstairs and more magical. This part was for the gods, most of the people who sat up here Haneul knew. Mostly just by passing by them on the street or just a quick talk at a bar.
The two stopped in front of a table which looked like a casino table, half round and huge. A waiter bowed to the two, smiling at Yeonjun.
“Let me know if you need anything else.” One of the occupants raised their glass at the waiter’s words
“Waiter.” A voice purred out, a voice that belonged to none other than Hwasa
Haneul rolled her eyes and chuckled at the goddess. Hwasa, good old Ms. Hothead, of course she would be here. She swirled her almost empty glass of what looked like nectar, the waiter looked back at the goddess.
She smiled sweetly, “get another round of nectar for us.”
“Yes ma’am” the waiter answered, turning to walk away
Hwasa placed her glass on the table, pouting as a candle went out. The woman reached out and touched the wick, it immediately caught fire. It did nothing for the lighting but Hwasa sighed as if she could see better, she scanned the table and smiled as she saw Yeonjun. Her eyes followed the man as he sat down.
“Glad you could join us Yeonjun. I missed playing with you.” Hwasa said in weirdly nice voice, Yeonjun laughed as she added. “You came just in time, things were getting good.”
The attention turned from Yeonjun over towards Haneul. some glared at the girl but a few had curious looks, she gulped feeling out of place standing there. They didn’t seem to like her, but Haneul found Yeonjun who smiled at the girl
“I brought a friend if that’s okay. Everyone this is Haneul.” He introduced Haneul, Hwasa’s eyes moved from Yeonjun to Haneul and her smile faded.
“Ah Haneul it’s good to see you but I though you did’t like gambling.”
The question sounded innocent to the other people at the table but Haneul could hear the underlying mockery in her voice. Hwasa and Haneul never had the best relationship, they hated each other and always thought the other was childish and “didn’t take being a goddess seriously”. Haneul slid into the seat next to Yeonjun but was now stuck facing Hwasa the entire night.
“I do but a wise person once said ‘life is short and anything can change in a millennium’” Yeonjun smiled at Haneul’s words
Hwasa already looked bored and they hadn’t even started, she moved her hand and sparks shot out. The person next to her whimpered as the embers shot directly at them. Hwasa grabbed the deck of cards and started shuffling before stopping and gasping dramatically.
“You do know know how to play blackjack, right Haneul?” She asked condescendingly
Haneul forced a smile as she answered through her teeth. “I do, thank you very much.”
The waiter came back around passing out the nectar, Hwasa winked at the man who turned and offered Haneul a glass who refused. He saw the stack of cards and put the plate on the ground before picking up the set.
“Blackjack please.” Hwasa said in a high pitch voice making Haneul roll her eyes
The man nodded and passed out two cards to the players before placing two cards down on the table, they all wagered their money. Haneul reached into her pocket and pulled out her cash placing some in the pot, Hwasa scoffed and mumbled out a ‘cheapskate’ so Haneul put a couple more bills into the middle.
She looked down at her own cards, a 7 and a 10, 17 which wasn’t bad. Haneul looked at the other players, Hwasa had a 6 and a 8, and Yeonjun had a 9 and a 3. Haneul stood and watched as the others hit card after card, a laugh escaped Haneul’s lips looking at the cards. All of them had busted, she had won. The dealer pushed the winning towards the girl.
“Beginner’s luck.” Hwasa hissed out
Rounds passed, Haneul won and lost gaining some money and losing it. Hwasa glared at the woman every time she won, her lips pulling up in a snarl but Haneul was having fun. She understood how gods enjoyed this and seeing Hwasa becoming angrier the more she won was all the buzz Haneul needed. Haneul wasn’t a god but in this moment, oh she felt like one.
“For being a vengeful goddess, I would’ve thought you would have a trick up your sleeve.” It petty but Haneul only allowed herself to be petty around gods
Hwasa rolled her eyes as her jaw clenched, “you have no say, you’re not even a goddess.”
Haneul giggled as she tilted her head. “You’re right, I am no goddess and still I’m beating Jowangshin.”
She smirked as the dealer started dealing out the card, a 9 and a ace. Haneul hissed, it was only a ten, she hoped that luck was on her side as she hit gaining a 7. She hit one last time and got a 5, a bust, Hwasa laughed before she hit and also busted. Haneul almost spat out her drink, the dealer won that round but Haneul was more focused on beating Hwasa than beating the dealer or anyone else. Hwasa looked angry as she watched her money get swept from the middle.
“What’s wrong Haneul don’t like losing?” She asked teasing
Haneul looked back up at her, “I could ask you the same, I’d think for being the goddess of fire you would like to burn money.”
“You need to clean up your act Y/n, I don’t like when women are dirty or have dirty houses.”
“Good thing we’re not playing in my house then.” She gave Hwasa a sly smile watching as her jaw clenched
“I raise.” She said but didn’t move to put more money in the full pot, her eyebrows furrowed together as Haneul watched her. “How much?”
Hwasa laughed as she reached for her money, Hwasa shook her head as she stated. “I didn’t say money. I just said ‘I raise’”
Haneul clicked my tongue and cocked her head to the side sighing. “What are we betting?”
Hwasa held up her hand as a flame appeared, the look in her eye as she stared at her fire seemed devilish. Hanuel’s heart raced with fear waiting for her to talk, but she took a deep breath. She finally looked at the girl, her eyes glaring into Haneul’s.
“Our powers.” She closed her hand extinguishing the fire
The whole group gasped before whispering to one another, Haneul gulped at her bet. Their powers? Could you even bet your powers? And what happens when you lost them, all these thoughts filled her head but the sight of Hwasa pouting pulled her from second-guessing.
“If you’re scared, we could go back to betting money.” She said with a fake sad voice but Haneul shook my head. “What happens if I lose.”
A smile crossed her face as she began, “you lose your powers but if you win, I’ll give you my powers.”
Before Haneul could answer, Yeonjun said something. “Excuse us for a second.”
He got up from the table pulling Haneul so they were out of earshot. “Are you crazy Hanuel, you’re not going to do it.”
She just shrugged, “so what if I am.”
“You’re going to risk your powers for your pride? We don’t know what could happen without your powers.”
“Why do you care so much, they’re not yours.” She hissed back at Yeonjun
“We’ve been friends for centuries, I’m worried about you Haneul. you want to be a mortal?” Yeonjun whispered but his voice was loud
Hanuel just shrugged, she wouldn’t be mad and would actually prefer it. She would be able to fall in love and do things that humans could, Haneul always wanted a family since she lost her real family centuries ago.
“You could die Hanuel.” He almost yelled out
Haneul just smiled, “that’s a risk I’m willing to take.”
She turned and headed back to the table, slamming her hands on the table. Hwasa looked up at Haneul saying. “Made up your mind?”
“Deal.” She nodded
Yeonjun had walked back to the table, unable to look at Haneul as he let out a defeated sigh. Haneul couldn’t back down, not against Hwasa. She stood up and reached across the table, Haneul reached out her hand taking the goddess’s hand. She hissed a bit at the squeeze but then suddenly gasped as fire surrounded their hands. A few of the other participants gasped and whispered to each other, Hanuel knew what this was and she had only seen this once. It was an unbreakable deal and now Haneul really couldn’t backdown now, her life was on the line. The fire dispersed and Haneul pulled her hand back rubbing where it felt like she had been burned. The two sat down and the game began.
The dealer hesitantly dealt out the two cards to the women, Haneul had gotten a queen and a 2 which was a safe 12. Haneul looked over to see what Hwasa had gotten, a 7 and a 9 which was a 16. Haneul took a deep breath and looked up at Hwasa seeing the smirk on her face.
“Hit.” The dealer placed a card next to her 12, it was a 4 raising her value up to a 16
“Hit.” Hwasa said as well, it was a 2, her value was 18 now
“Hit.” Haneul said again, the dealer slowly placed down the card
Haneul slowly looked down, her heart stopped as she saw the four cards in front of her. A 22, she had busted, Haneul had lost. She had lost the game, had lost the deal and….her powers. Her blood ran cold as she sat there frozen. Hwasa cheered with her friends as Haneul was stuck there staring at her lost. Of course the only time she gambled…she lost everything.

SPOILER 2: CASAS.
JOSHIN
Pátronos: Jowangshin, Bari Gongju.
Cor: Vermelho.
Elemento: Fogo.
1. Não falar palavrão na lareira.
2. Não sentar na lareira.
3. Não colocar o pé na lareira.
4. Manter a cozinha limpa.
Pés no chão, estáveis, tranquilos…

Victor's Past
Tumblr media
Once there was a woman referred only as Gwayangsaeng's wife, who had three very talented sons, and to celebrate their talents, they held a Munjeonje, a ritual to Munshin, the door god. As the kids bowed before the door, they all fell dead.
The woman constantly plagued the King of Gwayang, Gimchi Wonnim, to bring Yeomra, the god of the dead, so that she may know the cause of their deaths. The king asked all his ministers to meet him. However, Kangrim was drunk from a birthday party of the mother of his eighteenth concubine and was late. Using this crime, the king sent him to capture Yeomra.
Kangrim asked his concubines for help but to no avail. However, his official wife gave him a sirutteok after sacrificing two other sirutteok to Jowangshin, the hearth goddess, and Munshin. She also gave him a green robe with a needle pierced on it and red paper with white writing. With that, he went on his way.
First, he found an old woman. When he ran to meet her, she vanished, only to appear again a few miles west. He finally caught her under a willow tree, where she was eating a sirutteok. He noticed it was the same as his own. The woman revealed herself to be Jowangshin and told him the directions to the Underworld. He followed the directions into a place where the road branched in seventy-seven different ways.
There he met an old man. As the old man ate his sirutteok, Kangrim noticed that it was again the same as his own. The man was Munshin, and he told him the names of all seventy-seven trails, finally pointing out the seventy-seventh trail, the one he followed.
The hero reached Henggimot Lake, it was surrounded by spirits who had not been able to enter the Underworld. These spirits had starved for eras, and attacked Kangrim, who distracted them with his last tteok, then threw himself into the lake. When he came out, he found himself standing before the Yeonchu Gate, the gate to the Underworld.
When Yeomra emerged in a procession to a divine feast held by the god Wonbokjangi, Kangrim emerged and blocked the procession, traping Yeomra with a steel chain. The god them had the brilliant idea to invite Kangrim to Wonbokjangi's feast and as turmoil took place, he vanished.
Kangrim sought Yeomra, but could not find him. Suddenly, a goddess standing near the hearth muttered that he was a fool, for he could not see that there was a pillar through the table. When Kangrim prepared to chop it down, the pillar transformed into Yeomra, who promised that he would go to Gwayang. He made Yeomra write it down, thus the god tattooed his vow on Kangrim's back.
All this adventure only lasted three days for him, who was in the Underworld, but in the mortal realm, he was gone for three years. His wife expected him to be dead, but once he showed her his green robe she let him in. Mr. Kim, who wanted Kangrim's wife in marriage, saw him and told the king that the man was secretly living in his wife's house. The enraged king ordered to detain Kangrim.
In the afternoon, Yeomra descended into the land of Gwayang and ordered the king to bring out Gwayangsaeng and his wife. Yeomra told the couple to dig up the place where they had buried their triplets. However, the grave had three empty coffins. When they searched the Jucheon River, the triplets' bones were there.
Yeomra tapped their bodies, and the three sons of King Beomu who ruled the kingdom of Donggyeong returned to life. Only then did the couple understand that their sons were the princes that they had murdered eighteen years before, reborn. Yeomra turned the Gwayangsaeng couple into mosquitoes and returned the princes into their realm.
Yeomra asked the king to give him Kangrim, but he refused. Yeomra then offered him a deal between keeping Kangrim's soul or body. The king chose the body, and Gangnim's body instantly collapsed. Yeomra kept the soul and made Kangrim the Jeoseung-Saja, who reaps the souls of the dead. He is now considered to be the leader of all Jeoseung-sajas and is so close to the king that received the title 'Kangrim-Daewang' (King Kangrim).
