thinking about the radical difference between downton abbey season one and suffragette (2015)… both are set (or at least partially set) in 1912 and yet the england they depict is vastly different
downton abbey season one would’ve been so much better if they drove sybil up to london and had her realise the like extent of the horrors she would be subjugated to if she actually became a full fledged suffragette instead of dojng whatever the hell she was doing back in ripon
like canonically the crawleys go to london for the season in 1914 so… surely they would’ve seen things happen. surely. you are lying if you’re telling me that sybil didn’t try to attend a rally at least once she was very very Very political after like episode 4??? anyways julian fellowes was a coward for denying us this plotline
and like i guess this just shows the difference in historical media; you’ve got the piece that clearly longs for a time before and you’ve got another that accurately (or at least semi-faithfully) retells a historical story without shying away from the dirty and nittygritty bits
