MDZS Headcanon/Fic Idea | The forgotten 3zun legacy
A lot could be said about the Junior's. Yes, those Junior's.
They were always a handful. Always.
The tales had spread far and wide about specific groups of them especially - from the antics of WWX that NHS and JC always got tangled up in at Gusu Lan, to the next generations wild quartet that lived through the new age nightmare.
It was far from a secret in the world of cultivation that sects should beware of the curse of groups of Junior's. They were great fun, but in the end all too often also a major pain to tame and handle.
However, there was a certain trio that had gotten away scot-free. Were their tales too boring? Or were they just overshadowed by the fails and laughs of the others? Or was it just the mayham their world turned into..? Or maybe the three boy's in question were just never caught..?
One thing was for certain, innocence was not in the path of LXC, JGY and NMJ.
From the time they had a drink, the first time they shared an adult bevarage.. that had them realize that Lan's really weren't good with the liquor.. to the time that NMJ was about ready to choke LXC with the flute he'd been trying to teach the oldest while the youngest, JGY, watched in horror...
Yes, one thing was for certain. Somehow the tales of those Junior's had never seen the light of day.. but man, did they have some great stories waiting to be told - while hoping they'd never be told.

I adore the idea of Mu Qing being either a parent, mentor or older brother to his juniors.
Especially (even if there is some foreshadowing here) because of one of my favourite moments right before disaster.
Mu Qing is depicted as being genuinely considerate towards children back in Xianle: he's sharing food and is recognised and referred to by the street kids with fondness.
The three of them had just turned into the alley when five or six children in rags surrounded them. "Gege! Gege is back!"
Xie Lian was a little confused at first, wondering why they would call a stranger "gege." But then he discovered that the "gege" they were calling to wasn't him but rather Mu Qing.
Heaven’s Official Blessing (Tian Guan Ci Fu), Volume 2, p. 340.
Yes, Mu Qing acts the proper part of a reluctant and exasperated older brother, but he is letting the children play with him and pester him for some treats. And we can pick up on how his attitude isn't even entirely convincing. He tells them he has nothing to pass around, but his tone is gentle and he indeed caves quickly and gives them some of the cherries he picked (quite the moment itself) anyway.
"There's nothing this time. Don't 'gege' me so easily." His face was wooden, but his voice wasn't cold. He turned to Xie Lian. "Don't mind them, Your Highness, they're just kids from the block."
Still, this group of children obviously knew him well, so they were clearly used to playing with him and weren't scared at all. They giggled and surrounded them, their dirty little hands extended, begging for treats from Mu Qing. In the end, Mu Qing reached for the gem-like red cherries in his bag and handed them out.
Heaven’s Official Blessing (Tian Guan Ci Fu), Volume 2, p. 341.
I'd also like to add, that although Feng Xin is (a bit rightfully so) confused, Xie Lian thought this cold facade and the contradicting gentle actions were entirely in character for Mu Qing.
Feng Xin was astonished at this sight, as if Mu Qing doing anything like this was nothing short of a miracle. It was no wonder, since Mu Qing's pretty-boy face always looked extremely selfish and coldhearted; he seemed like the type that, seeing someone die from starvation on the streets, would still keep a tight grip on his own food.
Xie Lian, on the other hand, wasn't surprised at all.
Heaven’s Official Blessing (Tian Guan Ci Fu), Volume 2, p. 341.
To briefly and inadequately address the elephant in the room: Mu Qing is suspicious of HongHong'er specifically.
Though in retrospect and with circumstantial knowledge that treatment may have been cold (though in my opinion somewhat appropriate for both his standing and duty to His Highness), it's not indicative of how he would treat children in general. Unless this is contradicted at some later point I'm yet unaware of, he seems rather doting on misfortunate kids.
And I think that's very sweet.

a thing that irks me about wgxn as lsz's Best Parents Ever and lsz himself calling them his fathers iiiis that aren't... parents and basically ancestors... kinda important in chinese culture? yknow, like *gestures at some of the characters' complicated relationships w/ their parents, their legacy and last wishes*? lsz discovers he's a wen and doesn't immediately go "ah well, doesn't matter, they were Problematic and i feel more like a lan anyway", but rather goes to the nighless city with wn to bury the ashes of their family and build a cenotaph for wq. that means he still wants to honor his ancestry, especially since he's the last surviving member of his clan. would lsz just... conveniently forget about all that -- about his parents, whoever they were, who died in the war -- for lwj? hm
#there was a post or perhaps a thread or maybe even more than one#about how the juniors would SURELY mistakenly refer to their sect leaders as mom/dad and i was like. g#i think kids call teachers 'mom' because they're still young and don't have much contact with adults that aren't parents/their family#members. so when you want to call an adult and your brain malfunctions you either go mom or dad (so: the usual)#but if you're a disciple of a sect you have a Bunch of older people around you each of which has their own name -- sect siblings#teachers etc not to mention other sects' members -- so i feel like it would be much more difficult to make that mistake#especially since i'm not quite sure disciples at that age would see the sect leader a lot unless he's personally teaching them#but ig that doesn't happen very often if he's busy with other things. there are other disciples and elders who can pass their knowledge dow#idk it just seems kinda... western? american? i can't say. to assume an adult who's important has to be a parent/parental figure which is#ALMOST the same as parent really! and can be referred to as 'dad'/'mom'#like. no! not really! a 'teacher' is not just your ms smith who taught you english and always praised your handwriting!#it can very much be the person who pushed you to become the person you are right now because they saw your potential#and without them you wouldn't be where you are. this kinda person you send gifts and cards every year for decades after graduation#because you're this thankful for everything they've done for you.#shrimp thoughts#this is not to say that he doesn't feel grateful for everything lwj's done for him -- he saved his life -- but that still doesn't have to#equate to Being his father. wzl didn't call wrh his father either and look how dedicated he was

I love seeing how different writers with different AUs handle Xue Yang. Some writers are like “obviously he’d be irredeemably evil no matter what timeline he ended up in and we don’t need to waste sympathy on him” and other writers are like “no…he’s just a little guy…..”

“...Ah...um...I’m not doing it on purpose, I promise.” She’s UNUSED to suddenly being the bottom of the class - especially because she used to depend on doing her cousins’ homework for her spendthrift habits. Offers a sheepish smile - “It was the SAME at home with the horsehead fiddle...Maybe I just don’t have much musical talent?” A shame, as her flower demon attendants frequently told her - how could a duchess have SUCH LITTLE musical talent, especially when she had a knack for such an eclectic array of other things that she ought not know at all? “Is this a bad place to practice?” Stops the vibrating strings mid-pluck of the guqin. “I...I can go elsewhere...”

thinking about a canon div au where lwj goes to yunmeng jiang the summer after gusu lectures, walks in just in time to see a sweaty half-naked wwx, his dirtied training robe left hanging around his waist where it's tucked into his trousers and belt, tousling with equally sweaty and dirty junior disciples (only a handful of them are in equal states of undress).
wwx spots him half a minute later, right after demonstrating the proper archery stance to another disciple. the moment he does, he blinks, then brightens, dropping the bow to make his way towards lwj.
all six feet (how is he suddenly so tall?!) of him, sunkissed skin, toned chest and stomach bare and gleaming with sweat.
lwj can hardly breathe. his right hand is a tight fist behind his back. he imagines his frayed tether to his sanity in his desperate grip.
wwx is in his usual teasing lwj mode, especially now that he's a solid 2 inches taller than lwj (for at least the summer), back turned to his silly shidis shooting kites, revelling in lwj's attention—
his hand moves before he can think, snatching the arrow in midair an arm's length from them.
lwj had been so preoccupied he hadn't even noticed it before wwx had suddenly turned and seemingly plucked it out of thin air.
wwx clicks his tongue. "watch it, guys; i can't have lan zhan thinking i'm a crappy teacher!" he chucks the arrow as though it were a spear, where it lands dead center at a target.
lwj desperately recites the gusu lan precepts about restraint and proper conduct in his head. mostly, he would like to – needs to – lie down.
"but you are a crappy teacher!" one of the disciples retorted. "you all but left us for dead the moment you saw some handsome gongzi!"
"what, am i supposed to choose you stinky lot over a handsome er-gege?!" wwx snorts then turns back to lwj with a grin.
please don't notice my traitorous body, please, please, please, lwj prays desperately.
"sorry about that, lan zhan! these guys still only hit about half the kites—oh? do my eyes deceive me?" wwx leans closer, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
before lwj can step back to safety, wwx's hand grazes the tips of his ears. end me now.
"my poor dear lan-er-gege, has the yunmeng sun already given you sunburn? your ears are as red as my hair ribbon!" wwx cackles, then grasps his sleeve, tugging him towards the pavilions. "don't you worry, i'll take good care of you, lan zhan! shijie should know where to get salves to soothe the stings."
lwj swallows, wanting to collapse right there and then if that wouldn't only add to his mortification. he eyes the lakes. maybe if he could just stay there the entire summer...

I'm going insane. what the fuck is up with the Lan disciples. i though that if the Lan rules and general Vibe are so strict and demanding... but no. madam mo calls them useless for letting her son die, and the narration goes "they were the sons of a fancy family, so no one was ever this mean to them, and they were raised very strictly and told to be respectful, so they couldn't even talk back to her". jc goes "wow, 'wherever the chaos is' indeed! what are you doing in this remote place hgj?" and because his tone isn't pleasant, the juniors "feel uncomfortable". are they young peerless cultivators or helpless baby princelings? there's a chance this is specifically wwx's pov narration, and this is why it's Like This, but also... ???

Imagine if there's a fanclub for Wei Wuxian and the junior quartet and all the young disciples are part of it. Like every second friday of the month, they congregate to the Jin Sect and discus Wei Wuxian.
Jin Ling always ends up bragging about Wei Wuxian being his martial uncle, while Lan Jingyi interjects with a slight smile and says he's my shifu's husband.
Lan Sizhui interrupts and says very politely with a smile, "He's my dad, so..."
"He's my husband,"
Pin drop silence ensues when Lan Wangji, who followed them because he was curious why his lan disciples left for LanLing every month said this.
They all rush to explain themselves but Lan Wangji just waves a hand and tells them they're all good as long as he gets to join and he gets the first pick on merchandise.
And so every second Friday, the lan juniors go to Lanling with their Hangguang-jun beside them. Nie Huaisang is also in these meetings somehow, they don't know how he entered but he makes the merchandise.
So they don't question it.

Just had this vision of Nobume finding some magic altana wishing well and reviving Oboro with it to help fight Utsuro. And Oboro just going “ok” and whatever cause if his little sister asked for his help he’ll give it to her. So anyway Oboro is leading Gintoki, Takasugi, Katsura and Nobume to his Naraku mansion and the moment he turns around to face them once their in his room he would just see each of his junior disciples with a handful of his stuff. And Oboro just gives up at this point because if Takasugi wants to take his Kiseru, Katsura wants his scrolls, Gintoki wants his expensive silk yukata’s and Nobume is eating what is definitely an expired donut that Oboro has no idea where she got it from that’s their problem. Oboro just thinks it’s karma at this point.

Hi Shana, happy holidays! Would you mind writing something about the Nie brothers, maybe with time travel? (Your time travel AUs are always so so amazing <3)
a continuation of 1 2 3 4
Father is courting.
Nie Mingjue is trying not to be resentful about it but he's mostly failing.
It's been over a decade since his own mother died and nearly five since Huaisang's had. It's not improper, or unexpected, even. Their father is still young, just over forty. Why shouldn't he marry again? A larger family is more security for their clan.
Except it's not even more heirs he's after, because the person he's pursuing is a man and maybe the most improper thing about it is that he's some random wandering cultivator that no one has heard of.
Wei Cheng looks too young for their father except the way he acts and moves doesn't feel match his face, which means some random cultivator has achieved a level of cultivation sufficient to slow down the aging process.
There are full senior disciples that can't do that. Father hasn't even achieved that. Why should this nobody be able to do it?
His and Huaisang's mothers were young and powerful and beautiful, selected from the strongest families within their clan and offered to the clan leader.
They both died.
"Are you still out here brooding?" Huaisang asks.
Nie Mingjue regrets telling Huaisang about this place more and more every day. "Missing your shadow?"
He rolls his eyes. "You have to be nicer to A-Ying." Why should he be? He's just waltzing into their lives with his stupid dad and Huaisang is just a kid, he doesn't know what any of this means, he just knows that Wei Ying is fun and likes getting in trouble with him and encourages all of his worst habits, why wouldn't they get along - "He's going to be our brother and Dad is really not going to put up with you being mean to him once he tricks Wei Cheng into bowing to him."
Nie Mingjue stares. "You - how did you - did someone say something?"
He wrinkles his nose. "Who would need to? Look at him. Wei Cheng spent like twenty minutes yelling at him about the junior disciple archery curriculum and Dad just say there and nodded. If Wei Cheng had any family besides A-Ying he'd probably just save himself the time and approach them with a marriage contract." He tilts his head to the side. "Maybe he should do that anyway. A-Ying would totally sign it."
Nie Mingjue has a headache.
And at this rate, he's going to have two.
