Victor nikiforov and empathy:
Following my fifth (?) rewatch I found yet another reason to be completely in love with Yuri on Ice, and that is Victor being a wonderfully accurate and non-demonized example of someone with low empathy. Seriously as someone who’s autistic and can’t relate to the influx of “actually we’re all super in tune to other’s feelings and have the MOST empathy!”, watch these scenes because this is what it’s like.
Tumblr media
This line at first seems to be Yakov thinking that Victor is arrogant, but Yakov knows him extremely well. He knows that Victor has a hard time viscerally placing himself in another’s shoes, and that’s a major obstacle as a coach.
Victor has trouble understanding what to do in situations that are highly emotional for Yuuri. Instead of being able to directly consider things through Yuuri’s perspective, we see him rely pretty often on environment cues, behavioral cause and affect, or straightforward commands.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He gets his habit of scolding yuri after a routine from Yakov because that’s what he’s familiar with. It’s not something Yuuri responds to particularly well, but it’s only when Victor pays attention to how others react when Yuuri finishes skating that he changes tactic. Victor sees how the crowd is going wild at the (Japan nationals) and it’s only then it occurs to him that Yuuri’s confidence may be jeopardized if he chooses that moment to criticize his performance. This is something he likely would’ve realized much sooner if he could share Yuuri’s stress easier instead of merely observing that it’s happening.
Then later on in episode 7, we get to the scene that actually inspired this post.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At first Victor approached the situation almost like an experiment, trying out cause and effect to disastrous results. When you have a much lower threshold for being able to experience another’s feelings second hand, it’s difficult not to think of other’s negative emotions simply as problems that need to be solved. Problem: Yuuri won’t perform well because he’s too anxious, he will only be MORE upset if he loses, and Victor has already tried to reduce his anxiety to no avail. Idea for solution: raise the stakes and see if increased pressure can replace his nerves with resolve, causing a good performance. Afterward, Yuuri will be proud of himself and happy again. Execute plan, observe results, adjust accordingly. When comfort doesn’t come naturally, this tends to be kind of the default. From experience it comes from a genuine place of caring even when it backfires (and it actually doesn’t at times), basically trying to actually fix the thing upsetting your loved one instead of play acting feelings you don’t get.
… however Yuuri was COMPLETELY within his rights yelling at Victor because regardless of intent he picked the worst thing on planet earth to say in that exact moment. I mean I’ve had my fair share of “oh crap someone is upset and it’s my responsibility” fails but my fuck-
Tumblr media
He’s shown to be pretty shit at comforting Yuri/ detached emotionally from the situation, but he is neither coldly unbothered nor strategically hiding it. It may appear callous to bluntly say “I don’t know how to help you” to a loved one who’s crying, but as someone who’s been there, that’s an insanely vulnerable thing to admit. “I don’t feel your pain, I don’t get it. But I love you, and just because I’m not feeling it myself doesn’t mean I don’t care that you’re hurting.”
Tumblr media
When Yuri finally just straight up tells Victor what to do, he is relieved and simply does it. Things are different between them after this episode because Yuuri finds the power to communicate his needs clearly and effectively. Victor doesn’t speak “subtlety” well. Yakov and Yurio both speak their mind to him directly regardless of if it’s polite, Which is quite telling because they’re the two characters he has the longest history with. It shows us the kind of communication style Victor is accustomed to and needs to navigate interpersonal relationships.
I’m not making a statement that Victor is autistic or even disordered per say. I feel his unusual circumstances provide enough explanation, but I really do see that he consistently struggles with empathy in the same way I do. He’s probably the only character I’ve been able to see that aspect of myself in with scenes that aren’t played for jokes.

Here's a free ask to tell us how much you love Yoi! :D I haven’t seen someone who loves it as much and that's just so dang cute! You go you!
Oh I'm positive there are people out there who love it even more than me-! xD But I'm a Pisces sun of course I'm going to get overly emotional about it! (disclaimer: You asked for it this gets long)
WHERE TO BEGIN THOUGH?? On my first watch of it, I thought it would be a comeback story for Yuuri, like he totally bombed his first Grand Prix Final, so it would be about how he gets back on top right?? HOW WRONG I WAS.
Oh my goodness all the narrators are so unreliable in this anime it makes me laugh! Viktor is worried he won't be able to surprise the audience anymore? BULLSHIT. Yuuri is worried that he's not good enough and just a dime-a-dozen figure skater? MY DUDE. Yurio worried that he won't make it in the future if he doesn't give it his all on his senior division debut?? BABY YOU HAVE A BRIGHT FUTURE DON'T BEAT YOURSELF UP OVER IT!!!
PLUS HOW THE WHOLE ANIME DOESN'T GIVE A CRAP ABOUT GENDER IDENTITY AND BOYS CAN BE AS FEMININE AS THEY WANT WITHOUT JUDGEMENT??? Guang-hong has a pink room filled with plushies! Yuuri dances eros from the pov of the woman not the playboy!! Young Viktor with long hair portraying both masculine and feminine parts in his skating?? YOU GO BOYS SHOW THEM YOUR FEMININE SIDES!!
AND MY FAVORITE PART OF ALL IS THE WAY ALL TYPES OF LOVE IS PORTRAYED. It's definitely not a shoujo romance! But there's so much love!! and ugh ugh ugh my heart!! I just want Viktor and Yuuri to be happy and in love forever and ever and THEY AREN'T EVEN REAL. WHO DOES THAT?? WHO MAKES FICTIONAL *underlines several times* CHARACTERS THAT YOU DON'T SIMP FOR BUT YOU SIMP FOR THEIR HAPPINESS??? UGH. YOU SEE WHY THIS FANDOM CAN RISE FROM THE DEAD WHEN GIVEN A CRUMB OF CONTENT??? ICE ADOLESCENCE DROPS AND IT'S LIKE A NECROMANCER SPRINKLED LIFE JUICE ALL OVER HUNDREDS OF GRAVES IN THE YURI ON ICE FANDOM GRAVEYARD BUT I WAS THE GRAVE KEEPER TRYING TO TEND THE PLOTS OF LAND WHILE EVERYONE RESTED. I NEVER DIED. IF ANYTHING AS THE YEARS GO ON MY LOVE GROWS AND IT'S SO UNFAIR THAT NOTHING NEW IS COMING OUT.
All I have to do now is collect old merch, scour the internet for fanart and doujins, REWATCH THE ANIME FOR THE SIXTH TIME NOW. Did you know that's a thing on Instagram? In honor of the five-year anniversary we're doing a hashtag yurionreset where we watch an episode every Tuesday like they were being released back in 2016! I just finished episode 3 and OH MY HEART THE WAY VIKTOR JUST GENTLY HOLDS ONTO YUURI'S ARM TO GROUND HIM AT THE END I *dies* YES I'VE WATCHED THIS SIX TIMES NOW AND IT STILL!!! GETS ME!!!! RIGHT IN THE HEART!!!!!
Hoo boy that got long. But as you can see, anon, I am probably not the biggest fan! I've seen posts that really delve into the symbolism and deeper meanings of scenes. I read one about the difference in height between Yuuri and Viktor when they hug in two different episodes and like I don't look for that but I love reading what other people discover! There was another one dissecting the airport reunion scene and it unalived me several times (yes I've died more than once)
And the music, the soundtrack, UGH SO GOOD. The song at the end credits? You Only Live Once?? Makes me cry. The airport reunion scene music? Makes me cry. The piano music when Viktor's asking what he should be to Yuuri?? YOU GUESSED IT. OPENS UP THE WATER WORKS. I don't know what it is about this stupid anime that makes me cry so freaking much but I've probably produced LITERS OF TEARS THANKS TO YURI ON ICE.
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk and letting me indulge in what I hope to be a lifelong love. ;u;

My Top 15 Anime of the Decade
So I’ve seen a few people do their top animes of the decade, so I figured I’d make one too. My list will include both anime series, OVAs, and films as I haven’t seen enough in all three catergories to make top 10-15 lists for each one. Also keep in mind these are series I have seen, so chances are there’s series or film you’ve seen and liked will not be on this list. There will be spoilers for these anime, so look away if you don’t want any for the series in the tags below.
Rules:
1. The series, OVA, or film must have be created between 2010-2019 and can’t be a continuation of a series made in previous decades (so sadly BLEACH and FMA: Brotherhood can’t make this list :( )
2. Remakes of series or direct sequels to series from previous decades can be included, just so long as they were made btween 2010-2019.
3. It has to be a series I saw all the way through the decade, with seasons  (not necessarily the story itself) being completed by the end of 2019 (so sadly I won’t be including Made in Abyss, Psycho Pass or Kimetsu no Yaiba as I haven’t finished watching any of them)
Honourable mentions: Erased (2015), Sweetness and Lightning (2016), March Comes in Like a Lion (2016-2018), One Punch Man (2015), Arrietty (2010), Yuri!!! On Ice (2017), Tiger & Bunny, Parasyte: The Maxim (2014), 91 Days (2016), The Anicent Magus Bride (2017), The Promised Neverland (2019), The Boy & the Beast (2015), Mirai (2018), Black Lagoon: Roberta’s Blood Trail (2010-2011), Zankyou no Terror (2014), and Cells at Work! (2018).
____________________________________________________
15. Deadman Wonderland (2011)
Tumblr media
Deadman Wonderland was one of the first anime series I saw in the decade. Because of it’s weak ’go read the manga’ ending, I almost didn’t put it on the list. However, after rewatching it, I remembered exactly what I liked about it: the great bromance between Ganta and Senji, the crazy twist and turns in the story and fights, and it’s memorable opening.
14. Violet Evergarden (2018)
Tumblr media
Some have said this show was one of KyoAni’s greatest accomplishments in terms of animation and style, and I whole-heartedly agree. Aside from the goregous animation and colours, the show has beautiful music, an intriguing main character in Violet, and a few well crafted stand alone episodes (my favourite being episode 10).
13. Berserk: The Golden Age Arc (2012-2013)
Tumblr media
The film trilogy that got me into one of the best manga ever created. Some of the CGI is a bit shoddy in the beginning, but gets better by the last film (and is heck of a lot better then 2016 series). Although it doesn’t capture the full spectrum of emotion, grit, and bad-assery of the manga, these films still do a good job at telling the essential story of the Golden Age arc. Of course, the infamous Eclipse scene is brought to life in all it’s horrifying glory, and the final scene in the last film - where Guts has that darn hopeful smile when he sees Casca after all the crap they’ve been through - makes me cry every single time.
12. Kids on the Slope (2012)
Tumblr media
I didn’t expect to like this show as much as I did. I expected a standard coming of age story, and what I got in the end was a great slice of life anime with some catchy music. I remember being in awe of the animation for the drum and piano playing sequences and how well they matched up with what was recorded. It also made me really interested in what Japan was like during the 1960s, and I even went on to do a bit of reading about it.
11. Your Name (2016)
Tumblr media
It’s hard to believe this film only came out three years ago. This film is still a marvel to behold. The animation and style is still breath-taking (just look at the backgrounds!), the story is engrossing, and it’s probably my favourite film from Makoto Shinkai.
10. Death Parade (2015)
Tumblr media
I can’t believe it’s taken me this long watch this one. Death Parade has always interested me, but it wasn’t until the middle of this year that I finally sat down to watch it. I ended up binging the whole show over the course of two days. It’s strong in it’s visuals and concepts, and I consider Decim one of my favourite anime male characters. Oh, and of course, that opening is gosh darn catchy as hell (and an ending that’s just as good on my opinion)!
9. Shingeki no Kyojin (2013-ongoing)
Tumblr media
There’s no doubting the massive impact this series had on the anime community and beyond when the first season started airing. Everytime the studio has brought their A-game for the animation; even to this day, I still watch the vertical maneuvering gear sequences from all the way back in season 1 in complete awe. Every opening just gets me pumped up before the episode has begun and a few other pieces of music are memorable. The characters have gotten better with each season and the story is unfolded damn near masterfully.
8. Boku no Hero Academia (2016-ongoing)
Tumblr media
The classic shounen that builds on the conventional tropes of the genre. It’s given the community some of the most memorable fight scenes in recent anime history - like the fight between All Might and All for One O_O. This has been a series that’s gotten better as it goes along, building up a likeable cast of heroes, a complex villian in Shigaraki, and an interesting world. In particular, I’ve come to really like the conflict within the Todoroki family (including whether or not Dabi is a Todoroki) and the dynamics between the students in class 1 A.
7. Fruits Basket (2019- ongoing)
Tumblr media
It’s good to be watching this series again! It’s even better to see previously excluded scenes finally get animated. What can I say that hasn’t already been said? The characters are quirky, relateable, and so full of life,  the animation and visuals are stunning, and once again, Tohru is my favourite anime character of all time.
6. Anohana (2011)
Tumblr media
I first saw Anohana before it boomed into popularity. I knew after finishing it that it wouldn’t take long before it gained a large following. The characters are believeable and relateable, and the story is compelling from start to finish. To this day, the final episode and the ending theme song bring a tear to my eye.
5. A Silent Voice (2016)
Tumblr media
I have to admit, I was surprised when I heard A Silent Voice was going to be a movie. I didn’t think they’d be able to fit in everything essential to the story into a film; I was thankfully proven wrong. With KyoAni’s signature stunning visuals and animation, the story and it’s characters is just as poignant as they were in the manga. Shoko and Shoya are fantastic characters, and their complex relationship tugs at the heart-strings. I also just love seeing sign lanuage animated and being used in anime.
4. Wolf Children (2012)
Tumblr media
Oh this film ;w; I went to see this with a few friends and had no idea what I was in for. Hana is an inspiring character, her relationship with the Wolf Man is the emotional equivalent of the first ten minutes of Up, and Ame and Yuki are such cute kids. The dynamic between Hana and her children made them feel like genuine family. It also has my favourite anime soundtrack of the decade, and I’ve pop in the CD at least twice a year since I’ve seen it.
3. Devilman: Crybaby (2018)
Tumblr media
Oh wow this show! The emotions were high, the action packed a punch, and the visuals were the best combination of wacky and horrifying. I barely knew anything about the original Devilman, so a lot of what happened in this show came as a shock to me - a pleasent one at that. Akira sent me on an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish, as did his relationship with Miki. Despite the awful things Ryo did and how much I came to hate him, I couldn’t help but feel sorry for him in the final scene (where he finally learned that emotons, the one thing he denounced, weren’t a weakness...a lesson that comes too little too late).  I don’t think I’ll ever forget the last two episodes for as long as I live ;_;
2. Ore Monogatari!! (2015)
Tumblr media
This show came at a time in my life when I needed just pure fluff and sweetness, and it delivered that in spades. It’s a breath of fresh air in the shoujo genre, with so many tropes being flipped on their head . I adore everyhting about this show, from it’s characters to it’s comedy. Takeo and Sunakawa have the greatest bromance in all of anime, Yamato and Takeo are so friggin’ sweet together, and the whole cast is just so likeable. It’s an anime I always come back to when I need something light and fluffy to watch, and is one of the first shows I recommend people who want to get into anime.
1. Mob Psycho 100 (2015-ongoing)
Tumblr media
I knew from the scene in the gif that I would stick with this series, and I was most certainly not disappointed. Mob Psycho is a gem of an anime that I think everyone at least has to give a try. The animation and visual style are unique, using One’s simplistic character designs and switching between 2d, glass painting animation, and shots like one in the gif above. I love the message the series promotes, as seen in the main character who strives to better himself personally rather then rely on his powers. Mob is one of my favourite character of all time, and Reigen is one of the funniest, most dynamic characters I’ve seen in a while; I love seeing these two help each other develop and grow, and how their relationship of mentor-apprentice flips back and forth between them (in one episode Mob has something to learn from Reigen, but a few episodes later, it’s actually Reigen who learned something from Mob). Finally, there’s the awesome battles and fight scenes, which made my jaw drop to the floor one minute, and had me an emotional wreck the next. If you haven’t already, go watch this anime!

Middle Thoughts: SK8 The Infinity
Type: Anime
Title: SK8 The Infinity
Genres: Sports anime
Progress: 10/12, though refers more to 6/12
Spoilers Below
I feel like there's a few things I should preface about myself before starting. For one, I've been pretty burned out from anime as of late, or at least new anime. As for as anime watching goes, I've pulled back to rewatch some of my old favorites and finally get to some of those films I've been meaning to watch forever. Secondly, I rarely watch airing anime. There was a point where I started following that trend so I could join in some of the conversations of my friends and the anime community I was in, only to quickly realize why I didn't do it in the first place. Watching an anime when it's airing, depending on what anime you're watching, usually means you're constantly stuck on cliffhangers. It also means that, if whatever you're watching it on is a little bit behind or you're watching the dub, you are destined to just be swamped with spoilers by people that completely forgot that crowd exists. It's just really annoying to deal with, especially for someone like me who tends to binge shows they're really enjoying. The last airing show I watched was Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai back in 2018 and have managed to avoid airing anime ever since.
All of that being said, a show must be pretty darn good for someone like me to break their avoidance streak. A dub must be really, really good for someone like me to watch it over the sub, despite the fact the sub has finished airing and the dub has not. SK8 The Infinity as a show definitely, so far, lives up to my decision, and the dub only makes it even better.
Watching the SK8 dub gave me a feeling I never thought I'd feel in anime again. Well, actually, it gave me multiple feelings I believed other anime couldn't give me anymore, which is why I have certain anime on my favorites in the first place. Watching the dub specifically brought me back to my first time watching Durarara. Yes, I watched the dub and, after having come back to rewatch the sub with my partner, to me, it simply doesn't compare. The dub of that show completely entranced me. Every voice actor played their character wonderfully and in such an interesting way, even for the characters I disliked, their performance was unforgettable to me. Not to mention all the added humor that just made it all the more enjoyable, some of the jokes completely void in the sub or without the same kick. The dub performances will always be the way I see the characters, they're iconic.
Watching the first episode of the SK8 Infinity dub made me feel the same way. I was immediately drawn in by the way each voice actor played their characters, they did such a great job at portraying them in such a unique way. Not to mention the nuanced emotions shown at the beginning, which is only built on in later episodes in such a gut-wrenching way. Then, just like Durarara, there's the humor. I wasn't aware until some people pointed it out to me, but some of the funniest lines aren't in the sub or simply aren't delivered as hilariously. It's amazing how a few word changes and delivery can really make a joke all the more better, or Hell, add an extra layer entirely. However, that's not the only layer the dub adds. Let's just say the viewers weren't the only ones that support renga and matchablossom and it really shows in the best ways.
That being said, the dub voice actors still need a good script and characters to work off of, and this show provides that in spades. All the characters feel entertaining, rich, and I found myself wanting to learn a lot about all of them. All the characters have so much charm and I think the dub really highlights that. As for the story, the relationships and the dramas showcased don't ever feel one-note or neglected. The drama and conflict of the story constantly had me thrilled rather than rolling my eyes, which is thanks to the way the races are presented (more on that later) and all the emotional investment the characters put into it. It also follows my favorite trope of biting off more than you can chew and getting caught up in something much bigger than yourself, so maybe I'm biased.
SK8 The Infinity also has that certain element I think other sports anime are missing. It's what Yuri!!! On Ice had, focusing a lot more on making each performance theatrical, entrancing, with a focus on the character's passion and drive over realism. I want the characters to win not for the sake of winning, but because they put a part of themselves into each performance. It's not that other sports anime doesn't try to do the same, but I tend to either struggle with getting invested in the characters, winning is way too emphasized overall, or the way the sport is showcased is just dull to me. Yes, half of the things the skaters do in this anime are unrealistic, but that's what makes it so fun and unpredictable. I adore seeing the stunts the characters, especially Langa and Adam, pull. They're amazing and the way they're animated are so cool! In my opinion, this is a great example of "action" done "fun". All the characters are pulling out their greatest stunts to win, only getting better and better as time goes on. Still, as an audience member, you don't feel as if anything is artificially being held back from you, the characters are always giving their all, they simply learn or have different opportunities as time goes on. This is probably one of the reasons that Langa becoming too good at the sport so quickly didn't bother me. He's awesome to watch, that and the fact the snowboarding excuse makes sense to me, plus it makes for such an interesting plot point and character conflict. The way the races are portrayed, along with the deep connections of the characters that play into it reminds me of Yuri!!! On Ice a lot.
The last point I want to make is what great main characters Reki and Langa make. Reki is such a relatable character main character and is written really well in this regard. He's insecure without being a brat about it, when he does break down or get upset with the other characters it's completely reasonable. His struggles of not feeling good enough, of allowing himself to be bullied due to a lack of self-worth, among other things, are something a lot of us struggle with. It's been great seeing him go along his journey and finally find support in Langa. Speaking of Langa, apparently, he and Reki were made together (and for each other if you ask me), and it really shows. Langa juxtaposes Reki, yet isn't his complete opposite, nor a rival. In fact, their friendship is not only because of their common ground of loneliness and socialization issues, but also because of their differences and how that makes them work as a team. Unlike Reki, who comes off as very turbulent and cautious at times, Langa can come off as quite confident (with skateboarding) and adores taking risks. Reki effectively serves as Langa's breaks and the voice of reason, while Langa helps Reki come out of his shell and learn to trust. I just love these two together, can you tell?
To summarize, SK8 The Infinity is great, especially the dub. The writing does have some hiccups later down the line that I will discuss in my final review. For now, though, I am rating this really high and am going to finish it. I feel like, no matter how it ends, this is going to become one of my favorites.
Current Rating: 8/10

Haikyuu!!
Genre: Comedy, Drama, School, Shounen, Sports
SPOILER ALERT
Finally, I get to scream about one of my all-time favorite animes! I didn’t start watching Haikyuu until around 3 or 4 years ago and when I did, I originally had no interest in it. To preface this, 4 years ago the only ‘sports’ animes I had any interest in would have been Free and Yuri on Ice. After a lot of contemplation, and watching crack videos, I started Kuroko no Basuke based on the knowledge I already had on basketball from when I played in middle school. One day, while clicking through YouTube, I came across a video comparing Kuroko to Haikyuu. The person whose video it was claimed that Haikyuu was better and I, naturally, did not believe him. Still, I rushed off to see what made him think this volleyball anime could possibly be better than a basketball anime where they seem to have super powers? It has now been 3+ years and I still haven’t gone back to finish Kuroko. Oops...
So, what exactly is so good about Haikyuu? Honestly, everything. It is realistic, the moves you see on the screen can be (and have been) done in real life. Not to mention that the characters are, for the most part, lovable. Sadly, several copycat cat designs do exist and they are lovingly referred to as the ‘discount [Insert More Loved Character Name Here]’ by my friend group.
One character in particular I was to give a bit of focus to is Oikawa Tooru, who you meet very early in season one. When you first meet him, he is insufferable, arrogant, and pompous. You want nothing more than to punch him in the face and be done with him. That was my opinion when I first met him as well as the opinion of my husband and one of our dearest friends. I will tell you all the same thing I told them... “Just wait”. While he starts off as this character you just can’t wait to see lose, you end up falling for him and his dopey alien loving ways.
One of my favorite things about Haikyuu is that the writer managed to get you attached to more than just the main team. Karasuno, Seijoh, Nekoma, Fukurodani; you know that there can only be one winner but you don’t want anyone to have to lose either.
You all should know by now that I enjoy talking about shipping in these fandoms and the last two reviews talk about how the fandoms weren’t toxic and there weren’t ship wars. I can’t say the same for this one. It pains me to have to outwardly say this is a toxic shipping environment. Artists get attacked for depicting their OTPs, people feel like they have to justify when they don’t ship the same things that other people do... All in all, people seem to be much crueler.
Like most, if not all sports anime, mxm ships are the primary pairings and there are so many options. You can be diehard for one specific pairing or being a ‘filthy multi-shipper' and no matter your choice there is no shortage of content. I have seen some off the wall pairings and that is okay! Just be kind to your fellow weebs.
The final thing I want to briefly touch on before I finish up my review is the age-old debate about subs verses dubs. My stance on that is usually ‘whatever you want’ or ‘whatever gets you to watch XYZ’. Not Haikyuu. I started watching long before the dub came out and I was the first person to scream about how excited I was for the dub. Until it finally dropped. In my very personal opinion: the pronunciations is terrible, the voices just don’t match the characters, and I don’t like that they changed some very iconic lines. Don’t take that to heart if you really like the dub. It just upsets me.
Rewatch Value: 6/10 I have rewatched the first season a great number of times either to show all my friends or as a comfort and I never seem to get tired of it. However, to the average person, I could see it having little to no rewatch value based on the simple fact most things are upfront and there aren’t hidden meanings.
Ability to cosplay: 7/10 This one isn’t as easy as the others. Unless you want to do a casual cosplay, you will have to be willing to spend money on one of the uniforms or track suits but it is still super fun.
Would I recommend it?: Yes! Even if you aren’t a fan of sports anime, it is worth it to give this one a try. I don’t necessarily like the new art style but even that is more than worth it to meet so of the crowd favorites!

What are your anime suggestions, I’ve been trying to get into it but I don’t really know what to watch
Hey there! and yeeesss, i’m so glad you’re gonna give anime a try! there are so many good stories and plots in anime which dont exist in western media so it’s a great mode of entertainment! so as for recs, lemme copy and paste my previous answer to this similar question and update it to answer yours!
As for starter anime, I think these are good ones you can start with and have received widespread acclaim:
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
Hunter X Hunter
Gakuen Babysitters (feel good anime that has babies!!)
Yuri! On Ice (gay anime)
Madoka Magica
Cowboy Bebop
—–
You can keep track of what I watch and watched through following my MyAnimeList account:
https://myanimelist.net/profile/carlowesome
I do my best to update that one. It’s kinda like an active anime journal where you can document the anime you watch, plan to watch, and completed but here are individual links for each
watched - https://myanimelist.net/animelist/carlowesome?status=2
watching - https://myanimelist.net/animelist/carlowesome?status=1
to watch - https://myanimelist.net/animelist/carlowesome?status=6
If you need to read like some opinions about all the anime I watch and have watched then click ‘Read More’. I put a mini paragraph next to each anime and also categorize them. However, i don’t want to overwhelm you too much but I’ll just put this down for your reference anyway.
[last updated: 28 Apr 2018]
Currently watching:
Neon Genesis Evangelion - i admit it has a slow buildup but be patient because you will really find it intense and see how it’s not your typical mecca anime. so far, i think it seems to be a deconstruction of the genre and has alot of psychological themes
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood - i dont know why my memory about this anime is somehow a blur. i’m sure i finished it but also not so i’m rewatching it and honestly i think this is a good starter anime. i know many people who do not normally watch anime and watched this
Boku no Hero Academia - it’s a recent anime and it’s really good! i think it’s on course to becoming a really big anime that will last many seasons at this rate. the story is about a world where majority of the inhabitants are heroes cause they have quirks (powers).. and the premise is that the main character doesnt have one but he wants to be a hero so watch and see how the story unfolds
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures (currently on Stardust Crusaders) - macho anime with an excellent plot! the guys are hot haha and many of the memes are in japanese so watch the original subbed but if you prefer not to read, the dub isnt bad. it’s very memey but the story is really entertaining and has unpredictable moments
One Punch Man - a parody of a superhero anime. tbh this isnt really binge-watch material cause it’s like a running gag and the story unfolds after episode 5 so i’ve just been watching this during my cardio days in the gym. but it’s a parody of a superhero anime
Hunter X Hunter - this anime is popular and it’s about hunters. so the beginning has the protagonist wanting to be a hunter and then he meets some fellow hunters along the way. it’s one of the highest rated anime in MyAnimeList (the RottenTomatoes equivalent of the anime world) so yeah check this out!
Tokyo Ghoul - the opening song is what captivated me to watch this tbh. although i heard the manga is better. it’s interesting though
Anime currently airing and I’m caught up on (just waiting for the next season to air)
Gakuen Babysitters - super feel good anime about babies!!!!!
Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun - super funny anime. if you need a laugh, this will really lift you up. i watched the first two episodes in sub and dub back to back.. and i can vouch that the voice actors for the English dub are excellent. it’s actually even funnier.. but if you prefer subs, then that’s fine. it’s just the lines are more humorous, expressive and have more variety :) Nozaki’s voice is also attractive in the dub.. it’s still very Nozaki imo. this anime pokes fun at the shoujo manga yet still has romantic elements. it’s mostly comedy though
Shingeki no Kyojin / Attack on Titan - it’s the Game of Thrones of anime imo.. like it’s so GOOD.. it will just make you gag after every episode!!! it’s so intense and there are really badass characters. and the plot is really brilliant. like if you think season 1 was like WHAT THE FUCkk.. wait til season 2! this anime is crazy and exciting. not for the faint-hearted tbh cause it can be graphic and disturbing (also dont get attached. they could die!) but yeah, this anime is popular true and some say it’s overrated but that’s because it really deserves all the recognition and success it has for its amazing plot
Anime watched/finished:
Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure (Battle Tendency) - SONO CHI NO SADAMEEE JOOOOOOJOOOOOOOOOOOOOO the type of anime that’ll get you wanting to go to the gym and lift. that being said, it has a really amazing story
Kimi no Na Wa - universally lauded and recently released! it’s the best film released in 2016 imo. i swear it’s really next level storytelling
Rurouni Kenshin - i think i watched this anime twice/thrice.. It’s so suspenseful. it’s about samurais. and this anime made me interested about Japan’s history. it’s kind of a period drama with amazing fight sequences. and it’s critically acclaimed. it’s my father’s all-time favourite anime
Rurouni Kenshin OVA - it’s a prequel. also more violent and tragic than its anime counterpart.. like it’s really different from the series. but it’s so good. you’ll find out how Kenshin got his iconic X mark from here!)
Ghost Stories - THE DUB IS A MASTERPIECE! THE SUBBED IS SHIT. TRUST ME. the DUB is the popular one too cause it’s the superiour version. You really have to see this one. the anime bombed in Japan so the english dubbers got all the rights for the anime and they gave the go signal for the dubbers to do whatever the fuck they want and the end result is fucking hilarious. it shits on the Scary Movie Franchise tbh
Puella Magi Madoka Magica - i swear do not be deceived.. it is a really intense and surprisingly dark anime with excellent plot twists
Jigoku Shoujo / Hell Girl - angst, tragedy, philosophical anime analysing humanity’s hatred, need for vengeance, and suffering. Futakomori or the 2nd season is my favourite but it’s worth finishing the entire series. 3rd season is very painful to watch though and you dont have to watch that one tbh if you dont want to lol
Love Live! School Idol Project - i honestly just watched this like out of curiosity and just for kicks. i was not expecting to love it but after episode 3, i was like wait??? wasnt this anime supposed to be fun?? why am i crying?? so yeah, it’s super good, touching, entertaining and sweet! and the songs are really catchy and good.. TBH this anime is like so gay since there are no men (except Honoka’s dad) so yeah it passes the Bechdel Test with perfect score
Love Live! Movie - the conclusion to the anime!
Love Live! Sunshine - i watched this like a few months after finishing the original series cause i loved the original girls and i was worried i wont like these girls.. but honestly, you will appreciate them. and it has more gay subtext. btw tell me who your fave girls/best girls are after watching Love Live and Sunshine. my best girls are Umi Sonoda and Kanan Matsuura :>
Yu Yu Hakusho - occult, spirit world, ghosts, and fighting. you most probably have heard of this
Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters - 1st series starring Yugi is iconic. it might seem juvenile though so i’m not sure if you will like it but the anime is really good if you love the card games
Digimon - can be very intense! better than Pokemon imo
Cardcaptor Sakura - this is also suspenseful. like the premise is essentially that Sakura has to catch all the “monsters” that were freed from this book. and it’s up to her to “capture” them and put into cards. magic, fantasy, and beautiful animation
Ranma ½ - this was so funny but the ending was disappointing cause it got cancelled apparently.. i really hope this will go out of limbo and give us a proper ending like InuYasha did but i doubt it
Danganronpa (murder plot twists, intense and despair-filled storyline. click this to know more about the premise. it’s like Battle Royale meets CSI meets How To Get Away With Murder. btw i highly suggest you play this game (it’s available on Steam) instead of watching the poorly condensed anime. so buy it on steam or you can download it how you like cause it’s one of the best games ever. and if you plan on watching this, there is no Danganronpa 2 anime so yeah just play the first game tbh. here’s a trailer of the game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwJeZPMhdUk. if ya dont wanna play the games then you can watch the anime. and after watching this, here’s a link of the playthrough of the 2nd game. it’s super fun, full of plot twists, and interactive)
Yuri On Ice - it’s a really cute gay anime. people will argue it isnt and its queerbait but i’m gay and alot of the things which happen are too much for just bros to do so yeah, i believe it’s canon gay or mlm. and i enjoyed it so you watch it and be the judge
Blood+ - vampires and sword fighting
Ghost In The Shell - it’s a sci-fi movie
Yakitate Japan - baking and cooking!
Getbackers - still up to debate if the duo are gay but if you google art of them, there have been official art released and it’s so gay lol. but yeah it’s shonen genre and it’s not canon gay
Cowboy Bebop - a CLASSIC. the dub is great!!
I don’t remember if i finished these but I watched a lot of episodes enough to recommend it and will rewatch them soon to relieve memories. I’m pretty sure I tuned in though and watched like 80%:
Fushigi Yuugi (i think this is shoujo but it has a nice adventure storyline)
Gundam series (i think i finished the first Gundam and the second)
Tsubasa Chronicles (it’s like a spin-off of Cardcaptor Sakura but they’re like all grown up and the plot is different)
Naruto
One Piece (i watched like the first four seasons)
Bleach (i remembered watching until episode 40 omg)
Great Teacher Onizuka (this is so funny tbh. i think i watched almost all of it)
Studio Ghibli films I watched:
Spirited Away
The Wind Rises
Ponyo
Tales from Earthsea
Anime I plan to watch (many suggested this to me and i plan on watching them so i’ll write them down here) :
Koe no Katachi (A Silent Voice)
Anohana The Flower We Saw That Day
Re: Zero
Your Lie in April
Shin sekai Yori
Gintama
More of Makoto Shinkai’s movies like 5 centimetres per second, etc.)
More Ghibli films too
Final Fantasy XV: Kingsglaive (after i finish FFXV game im watching this one)
Persona 4
Here you go!!!! I know it’s an extensive list. I’ll probably make this a masterpost of anime recs and will update this list, and add more soon. If you have any questions or anything, don’t be shy to message me! :)

well, sorry now you gotta tell me your favorite animes! (i'm the same anon from before, the one who asked about tv shows, not the mean one lol)
Yassss, you my friend are asking all the right questions. Here are my faves in order of how many times I’ve rewatched the shit out of each one, plus a little comment because i love them so much and hope you all watch them. 1) Nodame Cantabile: Basically a very well written a romcom about musicians. Good content, hella cute relationship progress, realistic topics and character development. Watched it like 4 times, 10/10 would watch again, especially the last season. Lots of classical music it’s a huge plus and also Chiaki is FINE.
2) Fullmetal alchemist: Brotherhood: WHAT THE SHIT. This anime is too good. A complex story, lots of good characters, politics, female representation ftw, and do you know how rare it is to see an anime that properly adresses racial issues as an important element of the plot?? Fuck man this show is so good and made me ugly cry 12 times, also ROY FREAKING MUSTANG THE FLAME GODDAMN ALCHEMIST AM I RIGHT.3) Death Note: Dude. It’s a classic for a reason. Entertaining af. The second part after *huge spoiler of the show* happens is a little meh but still.
4) Steins;Gate: Yassss. Physics, Time travel, parallel universes, crazy ass protagonist with an A+ development, LOVE. All my fave tropes are here. And the story is actually interesting and well telled. El psy congroo bitch.5) Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun: Fucking hilarious. Seriously it’s comedy gold, especially if you’re are remotely familiar with manga culture and basic japanese stuff. I personally prefer the manga which is a masterpiece but the anime is also pretty good. 6) Slam Dunk: It’s from the 90s so it might seem a little outdated but NO. A bunch of hot ripped dudes playing basketball, an amazing art work and the comedy is on point. The anime never finished tho and that sucks, but the manga did and it’s 10 times better, seriously the art style is ridiculously good.7) Attack on Titan: Surprise! But seriously tho, it’s such a good concept and I love how you never know where the plot is gonna take you. Also, captain Levi of the Survey corps can punch me in the face and i would be grateful. 8) Sket Dance: Idk i just love it??? It’s such a random anime and very few people know about it but i think it’s so fucking funny. At first it seems like the classic episodic comedy with no continuity but it slowly goes developing subplots and they’re so interesting and dramatic!! This anime really knows how to go from buttmonkey humor to real drama with such mastery, like one minute you’re laughing your ass off and the next you’re crying like a bitch and I respect a show that can do that to me. Also the manga is GREAT and unlike the anime, it has an ending and it will leave you sobbing in your bed hugging the pillows.
9) Black Lagoon: Lmao this anime is so fucked up and so over the top it actually works. It’s basically a huge 90′s action pastiche with guns, gangsters, mafia, guns, drug dealers, a shit ton of guns and yakuza. Some lines are so cheesy and 90ish but they somehow work?? how they do it?? And there’s Balalaika OMG BALALAIKA she’s too cool to punch me but she would 100% step on me and it’d be amazing. 10) The melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya: Love it, so random, so silly yet so clever, so basic yet so complex. Kyon’s narration makes everything hilarious and yeah, i love the whole god/time traveler/alien/esp shit. Also, in a quite unpopular opinion, i really loved season 2??? Like everyone was so pissed about the episodes being the same but I really got it and enjoyed each and everyone of them, like ???EDIT- OMG I totally forgot Yuri on fucking ice wth is wrong with meYuri!!! on Ice: Brilliant. Pure. Amazing. Talented. Showstopping (Insert Lady Gaga gif) GAY. This anime is so cute and so realistic, with such real adulthood topics and issues. Also when the animation was bad it was pretty bad lol, but when it was good it was HEAVENLY OMG. Anyways this anime would probably be in 3rd or 4rth place if I hadn’t forgot about it for  a moment like a goddamn fool.

Please don't reblog. Replies welcome! A couple of people expressed interest in a state of the me, so here's a bit of a run-down as to what's been going on in my life lately: I've been sick for the last two weeks with a fairly annoying sinusitis. I don't suffer from this often and the symptoms were a little weird so I went and got tested for lyme's disease just in case - had a couple of close encounters with tics after the larp in july and since I've had it before I'm somewhat weary. Looks like it's not that though - its a bit hard to tell because the infection from long ago still skews the markers. Weight-wise, I just had my one-and-a-half-year post surgery check-up. Mostly, everything looks good. I've hit my target weight, but I could stand to loose another ten to twenty pounds. Mostly I'm annoyed because my weight fluctuates wildly every month - around ten pounds in extreme cases, sometimes within one week. Not sure what's up with that. Due to weather and health circumstances I haven't been keeping up as diligently with sport as I should. Stopped doing the sword fighting for reasons - some of the people there were weird and made me very uncomfortable. I miss running - the weather so far this summer has been very miserable. I should really make an effort to run more often nevertheless. I still do pilates once or twice a week and ride the bicycle a lot though. Some of you may remember me posting a bit about my dad and his heart problems last year. Then, after all of the scare he gave us, his docs decided he didn't have to had surgery. Now, a year later, they decide that he suddenly has to have it, because things have gotten way worse. Not sure wether to be angry or relieved. I just hope it goes well. He'll get a bypass and a new cardiac valve, hopefully next month. I really hope that with that his mental state will improve as well - we've been very concerned with what looks like an early onset of dementia or alzheimers lately. On the up side, my relationship with him has notably improved somewhat during the last year. I'm in the process of applying for a program that might help me get back into a job. It's a long and ardous process and the success rates arent thrilling - as someone suffering from longterm disability because of mental problems, it's pretty hard to get back into a real job. it's been years since I've been full-time employed. The whole thing is scary, but if I don't try now I may never manage to get back into it and I'm not done trying to fix my life yet. I've been catless for half a year now. Since Kea died and Teddy left its taken a while to get used to it, but I'm managing. I'm getting to the state where it's hard to remember why keeping Teddy would have been a bad idea (mainly, he needed more activity than my small flat could afford him plus deargod all that fur) but I start to really miss having a floofball around. I firmly believe that the cat finds the human though. Maybe one day one will find me again. I've been pretty productive lately. Finished some crafts and larp projects, worked on the flat a lot too. Did some digital work and am really thinking about getting affinity photo once it comes out for Windows, because my old copy of photoshop is really extremely outdated. I forgot how much I enjoy doing this stuff. Gishwhes sort of reminded me how much fun photoshopping can be. I also had way too much fun doing those little illustrations for @phoenike and her great mass effect andromeda mreyder fic "Unresolved". I enjoy betaing that one so so much too. After the disaster with the Drachenfest where I had to give up and go home because the weather was so bad and there just was too much mud the next larp I'm going to will be at the end of september and it will hopefully see my new charater's debut. I'm really looking forward to it. The antidepressant I've been on for the last three years was just unexpectedly cancelled by the only producer so I was forced to switch meds. That led to a bit of a stint with mania last week. Very productive, but also very exhausting and a little scary because it's not something I experience a lot. I hope it'll even out now. Hm, I feel like this all sounds pretty negative when really, a lot of things have been going pretty ok, too. I'm productive, things are going forward, I'm seeing a lot of social interaction and I'm getting stuff done. There's the occasional setback but overall I feel like I'm dealing fairly well with everything. I've been a little inactive here lately and I kind of want to remedy that and be more present again. I'd like to talk more with people too, so if you feel like it just chat with me. Fandomwise I'm in a bit of a lull since I'm feeling a little less enthusiastic about Supernatural lately. I'm still following along for now and I'll guess I'll see what the next season brings but I'm not very hopeful for it drawing me back in. Yuri on Ice still keeps bringing me joy but there's no new content and I just really finally want to own it on DVD so I can rewatch it whenever I want to. Other than that I really enjoyed watching Supergirl, Voltron, Designated Suvivor and iZombie lately, but none of these shows really draw me in shippingwise. But I have had nascent merthur otp feelings lately, I even thought of a plot and sort of started writing it in my head. Not sure it'll ever progress to the page though. So, uh, that's a lot of rambling, sorry. If you've actually progressed this far, wow. This is where I'm at, this is the state of the me. Would love to hear some feedback, but please no reblogs. Thanks!

RULES: 1. Answer the new questions given by the previous person 2. Write 11 new questions 3. Tag 11 people
I have been tagged by @lets-share-neen
1. What book are you currently reading? (If you’re not a reader, what show/movie are you watching lately?)
Currently reading a few different books but mostly reading Crazy Rich Asians. Tv show I semi recently finished watching yoi and I keep rewatching random episodes whenever I have time. Not really watching anything new atm.
2.  If you were granted three wishes, what would they be?
1. Give me a metabolism where I will never gain weight. 2. Give me clear skin for the rest of my life. 3. Let me be Arashi’s manager but like without the stress of manager duty lol
3.  Cite four books you consider your favourites, and why.
aghhhh i’m blanking on all books I’ve ever read. I read a book about a year ago but I forget what it was called. Basically it was about a lady and her family who gave up sugar for a year and how it changed their lives and it was really interesting. Bridget Jones’ diary is hilarious both book and movie and will forever be one of my faves. I really enjoyed itsuka tiffany de choushoku wo. It’s a manga which later turned into a drama about a girl who loves breakfast and she goes to different breakfast places in tokyo and I feel like I can mega relate because I love breakfast too haha. And I can only think of 3 books that were really good atm
4.  As a child, what were your favourite pastimes?
Playing with my neighbour. We always were outside doing jumprope or chalk or playing hide and seek with the other kids on the street. Just classic kid games. Playing house was an all time fave as well (do kids even play games anymore or is it just their phone/ipad?)
5. What are your fandoms?
Arashi fandom and a tiny little bit of yuri on ice fandom. other things/people I like but not enough to fully join the fandom
6.  Are you allergic to something?
Cats
7.  Tell me two facts about your home country.
Canada is turning 150 in exactly a week. Poutine (when made correctly) is heavenly and yes that is a fact.
8.  A character from a book/show/movie that shouldn’t have died?
MICHAEL FROM JANE THE VIRGIN OH MY GOD I AM STILL IN TEARS FROM THAT (I hope this isn’t some kinda spoiler for anyone who reads this)
9.  Favourite ship?
I have way too many. Top 3 at the moment are Victuuri, Ohmiya, Otayuri
10. Do you believe in love at first sight?
I’m not sure. I’ve never been in love in general but I feel like I could fall victim to love at first sight because I can develop a crush on someone mega hard and mega fast. But I wouldn’t consider that as love at first sight though. Maybe if the right person comes along I might. But that’s only really based on looks isn’t it? You can’t fall in love with someones personality at first sight cause you don’t even know them.
11.  If money didn’t matter, what would your dream job be?
Probably like a travel blogger. Dream would be to simply travel the world and stay at posh hotels and eat delicious food and experience life in all parts of the world.
New Questions!
1. Is there any day from the past you would want to re-live? Why?
2. What is something you’re very proud of?
3. If you could only eat one certain food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
4. If you won 10million dollars, what would be the first thing you buy with the money?
5. Do you have any unpopular opinions?
6. Would you rather go far out into space, or the deepest part of the ocean?
7. Favorite food that’s only available in your country?
8. What people have had the greatest influence on your life?
9. If you were given the chance to live forever, would you?
10. Are there any cultures that fascinate you?
11. What made you start a tumblr account? :)

Curves - Yuriyuu
Title : Curves
Rating : K+
Pairing : Yuuri Katsuki x Yuri Plisetsky
Summary : After retiring, Yuuri began to gain weight again and is quite anxious about it ...
Note : A cute idea I had after rewatching the first episodes of the show.
Disclaimer : I don’t own anything!
Just like when he had stopped skating after his embarrassing defeat at the Final Grand Prix in Sochi, where he had met his future boyfriend for the first time, the anxious and pork cutlet lover Yuuri Katsuki had been gaining weight since he had retired from his professional career at the age of twenty-nine, and had a hard time to assume the new amount of flesh on his belly, even though it wasn't much since he could still wear the same clothes as before. However, it bothered him a lot more than six years ago, especially because his friends started giving him mean nicknames again, but mainly because of Yuri Plisetsky, his lover, who hadn't said anything about it until now, and the ravenette would think about this situation everytime he would have a bit of free time from his job research. Unlike the blond Russian, he couldn't go to the rink to enjoy a moment on the ice anymore and had to focus on what he should do now that he wasn't skating anymore, so he could pay the rent of their apartment in a town near Hasetsu, the other male accepting to move out of Russia to live with him as a real couple.
All of these new responsibilities and his enlarging silhouette were troubling him to the point of forgetting that he was actually cuddling with the second male, at least ten centimeters taller than him, sat between his legs, back resting against his torso, and that they were watching a drama series since the beginning of the afternoon, the one where the introvert guy is saved by the bad boy of the school who has a soft-hearted personality. To be honest, none of them were into this kind of show, finding the plot a bit too cliché, but they had nothing else on their shelves and they weren't even paying attention to it anyway, the two of them focused on something else.
A hand on his thigh brought the brown eyed man to reality and he almost jumped in surprise the moment those fingers tried to climb under his oversized dark blue sweater, not too sure if he wanted to let his lover discover that he had gained some pounds.
“You are spacing out again stupid piggy …” He said in a mocking tone. “What are you thinking about? Hope it's not another man?”
“Don't say such a ridiculous thing! I'm only thinking about the jobs I've applied to yesterday …”
“That's it?! So boring! You should come and skate with me tomorrow instead of looking for this … That's unnecessary.” The blond answered in annoyance, kissing the ravenette's bare neck three times in a row.
“You know it's important. The rent won't pay itself by magic and now that I've retired, there are no other options left … But it will work out somehow.”
“You are worrying too much … No one would refuse something to that adorable chubby face of yours!”
As he said that, the cat lover pinched both of his cheeks and pulled onto it like a parent would do it to tease their child, earning an exasperated groan from the person he loved the most. Yuuri didn't hate it but it made him feel like he wasn't the adult in this relationship, already smaller in body compared to Yurio, and he growled while pushing the members away from his face. Knowing that he had pissed him off a little, the youngster attacked his belly, tickling him under the large cloth, and bit on his left earlobe to provoke the Japanese even more, licking the flesh eagerly. Just like a cat which would have been splashed with water out of nowhere, the owner of the apartment jerked away from his lover and asked him desperately to stop, a dark blush appearing on his figure, tears of fear forming behind his glasses, grabbing his wrists in an attempt to stop him from groping his flesh. A bit surprised by the reaction after a minute, judging at first that it would be his usual anxious way to respond to the teasing, the tiger removed his arms from around his abdomen and let his fingers go through his long disheveled hair, incomprehension crossing his features. In front of him, Yuuri had encircled his belly in a protective stance and his shoulders were shaking a little because of his silent cries, curled up on himself like an injured and scared animal.
Yurio felt like the bad guy in that situation.
And not knowing why it ended this way and not how it always ended, was bothering him a lot more than it should have.
“Katsudon, what's the matter? Why are you crying? Did I do something wrong ?”
“N-no! That's not … you didn't …” The eldest mumbled more in embarrassment than in sadness.
  “Hey! Are you okay?”
The blond took a hold of his shoulders, feeling him tense under his touch, and forced him to turn around so he could look at him in the eyes. Hopefully, the sofa was large enough to let him kneel before his beloved. Head hanging low to hide the shame written all over his face, the eldest of the two had wished to avoid the subject, for now, not feeling confident about it, but it seemed that he couldn't escape at the moment and if he didn't want to argue with his soulmate, like they do everytime they don't agree with each other, he would have to answer to any of his questions. Fortunately, the cat lover didn't pressure him and stared at the man to see what was wrong. With his right thumb, he wiped the tears from his pinky cheeks and pecked his lips in an attempt to reassure him.
“You know that you can tell me whatever it is that's bothering you … Have I done something that you don't like?” He said in a desperate tone.
  “I told you … it's not you. I just … I'm …”
  “What Yuuri? You're what?”
“I have gained weight since I stopped skating …” the ravenette murmured shyly while looking toward the kitchen on his right, the television still working behind him.
A long and awkward silence settled after his revelation, tightening his grip over the sweater as if he was afraid of being eaten, and no one had the courage to break it, handling the situation just like you would with a fragile vase. Before one of them had the chance to speak again, the drama reached the last second of the episode they had been watching and the credits came scrolling down the screen. It was Yurio who decided to take the lead, chewing on his bottom lips for awhile now and imprisoned the sides of the anxious man's figure between his palms, cutting all possibilities to flee from him. It felt strange to the Japanese skater. As if the boy he had known for almost five years, had become more mature and left his cocky self behind this time.
“Is this all you had to say?”
  “Uh?”
“Is that what bothered you? Really ?” The youngster stated in a questioning tone.
“I … I though that you wouldn't stay with me if … I became that fat and useless person again. You … hated the way I was back then … Right?”
“When did I say that? Why would you think that I would leave you for such a trivial reason? Do you have such a low opinion of me?” Yurio answered with a touch of anger and disappointment to hear him say such a horrible thing.
In a simple motion, Yuuri prevented him from moving away by grabbing the hem of his t-shirt, the youngster before him trying to separate from him, understanding that he had said it the wrong way, and tried to find the right words to explain himself and clear his mistake. Of course, he hadn't intended to say it like that. He loved him more than anything else and he was simply afraid of being rejected just because of his looks. However, the passionate glow inside his light green eyes was telling him otherwise. Like a dangerous predator, the blond assaulted his mouth and ate the pink flesh with love and lust, not giving the time to the other to respond to the exchange. He sucked on the lower part of it and bit down on it, almost drawing blood out of it. It was his own way to show that he would never stop loving him no matter what.
“I know that I've always been mean to you when I was younger, but it was because I felt jealous of you and Viktor. You were so close even though you didn't know each other for that long … and I didn't know how to express my feelings except through harsh words …”
  “Yura … I'm sorry … I didn't want you to …”
The Russian held up a hand to stop him from saying anything more, not finished with his confessions and took a deep breath before carrying on, holding one of his lover's hand in his two, bringing it to his lips to caress it with them in an attempt to seek for forgiveness.
“But I was young, immature and too proud to admit that I had feelings for you since our meeting at the banquet, and seeing you lose at the Final triggered something inside me … I needed to see you and talk to you but, while I wanted to comfort you and chase your anxiousness away, all that left my mouth were rude words and reproaches, and now, I regret it …”
“I have no excuses aside from the fact that it's the way I communicate with the people I care about, and I'm really sorry if I said anything like that in the past. However, you have to know that I love you for who you are more than for what you look like and a few additional pounds won't change anything … Plus, you will be able to lose them in no time when you'll find a job …”
Yuri ended his speech with an awkward laugh, like a child who didn't know if his mother believed him, and kissed the soft knuckles to show that he had nothing more to add, a dark blush on his cheekbones. In front of him, the ravenette seemed relieved to hear him being so honest, the tears stopping from falling as joy replaced fear, and hugged the youngster happily, rubbing his face against his neck to catch the smell of almond that emanated from his blond locks. He was so glad. There was nothing that could make him happier than that. On his back, he felt two palms that started to stroke him up and down, doing small circles motions to soothe whatever would bother him in the future, and a kiss was pressed on his scalp, fingers playing with his disheveled hair. All this touching led to a heated exchange, their tongue fighting for supremacy, and soon, the desire grew stronger to the point that the Russian ran his hands along the flesh of his hips, massaging it with care and love, earning a surprised moan from his beloved Katsudon.
Still a bit unsure of his condition, the adult tried to escape from his greedy grip and mumbled incoherent things again, too overwhelmed by what was happening. Unfortunately for the Japanese, his lover wasn't letting go of his prey this time and would make sure to eat every last bit of his body, claiming him rightfully his by leaving some biting marks here and there. With all his might, Yurio pushed the eldest on the couch, straddling him with a sexy bucking of the hips, and pulled his sweater up to reveal his growing belly, sucking on the enlarging navel with a lustful glare.
“I really love your curves, my little pork cutlet bowl.”

Probably sound like a madman, but hear me out
Each character’s song represents them, through and through. (I’m just doing the 6 from the GPF because know most about them (except maybe Otabek but like ... we don’t know much about him #littlescreentime)
How? Well  (TIME FOR SOME PROOOOOF)
This got hella long.  TL;DR: the YOI creators knew where they were going with their characterizations and managed to convey this through each of the program’s music
Details under the cut.
Viktor’s First skate: Stammi Vicino
We first are introduced to this character with a self assured “Commemorative photo?” after he comments on Yuri’s program at the GPF. But his first skate we see actually gives us a deeper insight into who he was at the beginning of the series.
Tumblr media
I mean, this doesn’t scream “I’M SO PUMPED BECAUSE I KNOW I’M GONNA WIN” this is like “wow i’m all alone this kinda sucks”.
At this point, we have concluded he was lonely, what with all the meta on how empty and cold his apartment looks; there’s no personal effects, and it was noted that he was able to pack up everything in about a week.
Yuuri’s SP: On Love: Eros
Now I know all of you are like: wtf?
But hear me out. After the events of ep 10, we know that Yuuri has this locked up personality that he lets loose for people he’s close to, when he’s on the ice, or when he’s incredibly drunk (Kids don’t drink 16 glasses of champagne. The outcome is bad; if you don’t have alcohol tolerance you’ll barf your guts out before passing out or if you do you’ll end up pole dancing and not remember the night at all THIS HAS BEEN A PSA).
Tumblr media
(side note: DAYYYUM SON)
Celestino, as a coach, has picked songs he feels like Yuuri would skate to, which means they were probably very much like Yuuri himself; reserved, quiet, witty, determined, etc. All of this eros is held back by an incredibly vulnerable Yuuri who wants to get through life while rocking the boat as little as possible. So the fact that Viktor comes along and says “Ah yes you’re skating to this.” he was like wtf. But this is truly him and everything he wishes he could be - confident, sexy, someone who is equal to Viktor in every way.
(That’s my theory on why he was insistent he make Yuri on Ice equal difficulty to Viktor’s program)
Yuri’s FP -  Yuri On Ice
OK
So.
As said by the commentators, this song was used by Yuuri to express the different types of loves he feels. As you watch, he mentions all the feelings etc. etc.
But - Love.
Tumblr media
Yuuri has finally gotten love. It’s why the FP was record breaking. He’s gone and he’s fallen in all sorts of love with everyone. Don’t get me wrong - I’m not saying he’s just discovered love. He’s loved his family and friends and we get to see that in all the interactions he has with them, which is wonderful. But he finally realises that they love him as much as he loves them. Which makes him fill with more love and determination.
Not only that, but this piece is kinda.... a walk down memory lane. He’s gotten someone to capture his career, and if you listen to the music, it tells you exactly where he was dragged down and how he was able to rebuild himself and become even stronger. This song is Yuuri summed up in 3 minutes. You listen to that, and you know exactly who he is.
Yuri’s SP - On Love: Agape
Yuri is innocent and pure and for some reason, his Russian team (and the Hero of Kazakhstan along with Japan’s top figure skater) all love him.
Ahem.
There’s no other way to put this. Yea ok he’s angry and yells and likes to threaten people (I mean.. same), but he’s very much like a kitten - he can really do no harm.
Tumblr media
(He’s got nicer hair than I do (also look at how innocent he looks)).
But Yuri is very innocent. He’s only 15 years old, and sure, he’s travelled the world. But he hasn’t seen much of the real world. His entire life is figure skating. He eats, breathes, and sleeps it. So he lives in what essentially can be considered a bubble.
To the real world - he’s an innocent bean (it’s probably why they call him the Russian Fairy). And I think that he knows this, which is why he postures so much; all that anger and aggression keeps people away, like it kept Yuuri away at first, so that no one knows how young he really is (even though they say his age at every skating event).
Yuri’s FS - Allegro Appassionato in B Minor (RIP pianist)
To start, I’m going to translate this name (I don’t speak Italian, but I have studied music for the last 16 years AND I did ballet for 10 years, so I do know what these terms mean).
Allegro - the musical definition is bright, quickly, lively. However! In ballet, the term is the same, but it is applied to airborne movements (side note I just rewatched his ep 12 skate trying to get a good photo and he actually adds in a quad! So he’s airborne! ish!)
Appassionato - passionately; play with passion.
Tumblr media
(if this doesn’t scream PASSION i don’t know what does)
But Yuri is passionate. He’ll fight for what he believes in, as commented on by Otabek’s monologue (”Yuri Plisetsky had the eyes of a soldier”) and, I’ll bet someone dinner at a place of my choosing, he’ll fight for anyone he accepts into his family. This boy just has so much passion for figure skating (and cats. Definitely loves cats.) that it’s absolutely incredible - it’s something that can’t be contained and yes, he has to work for it, but with that passion, drive and determination he has, this song is essentially all him.
Phichit’s SP - Shall We Skate?
This pure bean.
Honestly, just listening to the music, you get a sense of who Phichit as a person really is. He’s upbeat, enthusiastic, (JUST LIKE THE MUSIC!!) and overall he just seems like the type of person who can just make you smile purely by existing.
Tumblr media
He’s encouraging and supportive and I think he was skating as the Skater, because the lyrics tell us the King was trying to learn to skate. The skater, much like Phichit, is showing the King how to skate, and basically being the best cheerleader in the world as the King skates.
Yuuri and him were roommates in Detroit; Phichit would have been incredibly supportive and encouraging because he’s the Purest Cinnamon Roll Ever.
He’s just so fucking supportive idk what else to say ok.
Phichit’s FS - Terra Incognita
So this piece is also upbeat and features a relatively happy overall mood. It’s somewhat inspired by South East Asian music (I’m not sure what part of South East Asia, but I feel that Indian vibe to it) which I really enjoyed.
Tumblr media
But again, this just summarises the picture we’re given of Phichit. Granted this is all painted from Yuuri’s POV, who is literally the most unreliable narrator. But that one bit we got from Viktor regarding Phichit shows that Viktor actually is in agreement with Yuuri’s ideas.
So from that, we can conclude that Phichit is incredibly supportive and loving, not just to his friends, but to people who his friends love as well.
Chris’ SP- Intoxicated
So the first opening bit reminded me of Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get It On. But once I got over that, this song is sexy, and sauve, just as we all know (and love) Chris to be.
Tumblr media
This piece kinda .. flows, for lack of a better word. To be honest, listening to this song when I’m not looking at this dork’s face (or butt) makes me think of those scenes where the dude emerges from the water, and we get a slow close up of a drop of sweat falling down his chest or smth.
This song, at the very essence, is exactly who Chris is. He’s confident, mature, and just oozing sexual pleasure. It’s a nice contrast to Yuuri’s Eros, which wasn’t as sophisticated as this one is. This is essentially pleasure after pleasure, all done so well and controlled, all to ensure that the partner (in this case, the audience) is getting as much pleasure out of it as possible.
And not only that - we know Chris actually wears glasses, but it doesn’t appear he wears them in public, which means there’s a vulnerable part of him that he doesn’t want the world to know, so he shows his sexual appealing side and keeps his vulnerable side for his super close friends and fam.
Chris’ FS - Rapsodie Espagnole
So as anyone can tell you, Spanish songs are full of passion. This one is no different.
Tumblr media
As is this man. God the passion this man has... incredible.
Chris is a man extremely comfortable with his sexuality, and he’s very comfortable and confident with who he is.
That’s all I can add on for him because we don’t get much of Yuuri’s thoughts re: Chris to be able to see another side of him apart from the super comfortable with his sexuality version.
AND FINALLY: (I’m not doing Otabek I can’t do him justice if someone else wants to analyse his music (he was the only one who didn’t get original music (BEETHOVEN ASSHOLES) for both his free skates))
JJ’s SP - Theme of King JJ  (his song is hella freaking catchy)
Right of the bat, in both the song and the anime, we’re introduced to JJ as a man who’s exceptionally arrogant. He sees himself as someone who essentially rules figure skating.
Tumblr media
And it’s interesting that we get a bit of that feeling as well from Yuuri.
This song and JJ are both incredibly arrogant - his song (presumably sung and written by him) talks about how amazing he is, and how no one can catch them. He taunts people, saying “Catch me if you can” and that’s exactly what he does to Yuri at the Skate Canada medal ceremony. “I look forward to climbing the podium again with you in Russia.”
He’s loud, brash, and an incredible show off, which is exactly what this song shows.
(I didn’t have to look up any of these quotes o hm ygod why am I JJ trash it must be Canada Pride)
JJ’s FS - Partizan Hope
So this piece is completely different from the last one. It starts off differently slowly and with just a piano.
The feel is completely different. To be honest, I get the shot of a person triumphantly crossing the finish line of a race in slow mo while this plays in the background.
Tumblr media
The feeling of how he skates is completely different as well. It’s more triumphant, less arrogant.
Confident. JJ is a confident person, something the music reflects earnestly. And he knows he’s going to win, so he just skates for the fun of it. He’s not taken no for an answer, and because of that, he’s built up quite the character of fighting for he wants just by being loud, brash and opinionated (something that will get you strange looks on a Canadian bus, fun fact).
This confidence is hidden behind his outgoing self, which you can hear very clearly in this piece (probably why they put it second, because the ISU regulations RE: times would make sense for them to reverse this order of pieces).
“Ok, so I read all that. You’re right. What’s your point?”
Wow thanks for asking that!
This is my point.
Viktor’s second skate: Duet - Stay Close to Me
This is an absolutely incredible transformation - we know the songs of the characters represent who they really are. As a result, not really seeing Viktor skate competitions and then suddenly see him skate this, a song filled with so much hope and love (I was actually crying when this aired because the emotions were too much in this piece); the loneliness of the violins has been replaced with happiness, hopefulness and love.
Tumblr media
All because of our dear Yuuri.
And I think that this is one of my favourite character growths in a tv series - Viktor, growing and changing not for love.
Instead, he changes because of it.
And I think that’s beautiful.

Anime Review 2016
Yes, I know this is long overdue. But 2016 has been a very eventful year in anime, so this had to be done.
All series are sorted according to season, followed by how much I enjoyed it, only applies to current shows airing at the time. To avoid the rage of the respective fandoms, series which I didn’t particularly enjoy will only be described, but you may still identify some of them.
P.S: Long Post!
Winter 2016
Personally, I feel that not much goes on in Winter, save for adaptations and the transition from one Precure series to the next.
Watched: 3
Loved: Assassination Classroom S2
This is a series that is very faithful to the manga it was adapted from and it’s a thrilling ride from beginning to end. I truly identified with the Class 3E kids and I wish for their bright futures.
Dropped: (description) An anime based on a card game which certain people contract with beings from another world to fight evil. I thought I’d get the same feelings as WIXOSS for this show, but unfortunately, while the start was great the end was terrible. Sorry.
Spring 2016
Things may perk up from here. Maybe... ...
Watched: 2, may be starting on another from that season since they have an S2 soon.
Notable: Kaitou Joker S3
It may sound and look childish, but I personally find this show very entertaining as best. Also, Joker is a cute little asshole.
Dropped: Sousei no Onmyouji (anime adaptation) (name mentioned due to one side being liked while other side isn’t)
While the manga series is interesting and the anime adaptation fun to watch, I dropped it in the Fall Season because the filler was getting to me. In summary, the same problems the original D.Gray-Man anime had, only a lot worse as some filler episodes were just plain confusing. Also, I can’t help but wonder if Sukeno-sensei actually approved of some of the filler stuff. Like the Singing Basara. What was with all that...? I’m still reading the manga, though but time will tell if I’m going to drop the series as a whole eventually. I hope not.
Planning to watch: Boku no Hero Academia
I’ve read the manga, but put the anime adaptation on hold because of S2. Now that it’s coming up, I’m going to see if I have the time to watch S1.
Summer 2016
NOW this is where the fun starts. Not only is this the season with the most comebacks, I’ve also labelled it the Despair Season.. ... for a reason.
Watched: 7
Enjoyed: Bananya, D.Gray-Man: Hallow, Amaama to Inazuma, Show by Rock! Short
Bananya: I mean, banana cats. This show is SO CUTE. It always makes my day with it’s purity. Each episode is 3 mins each, so it doesn’t take long to marathon it. Recommended if you love cats, bananas, bananas and cats, or Kenma/Hinata (because the cast is just these two).
D.Gray-Man: Hallow: The anime I have been anticipating the most out of all the 2016 animes. While the animation is choppy at worst and it takes a while for some of the seiyuus to get into their roles, it’s overall a good show with expansion that doesn’t take away from the original manga. I’d recommend the series as a whole very much, and since the manga adaptation’s back in serialization, now’s a good time to start on the series.
Amaama to Inazuma: A very heartwarming tale that also teaches you how to cook. I’ve read the manga after a few episodes and I’m glad they provided recipes at the end of each chapter, also one particular scene in the manga which has yet to be adapted into anime form made me sob. Someday, my parents are going to watch this show. Also, please protect Tsumugi Inuzuka who is a Cinnamon Roll too good for this world so pure.
Show by Rock! Short: I liked the concept, and happily went to watch this one. It’s a buildup to S2, which I’ll explain later. I enjoyed this one for the humor and brightness in the series. TBH, I wish the game will get released internationally soon. I want to play it....
Watched once, never again: 2
(description): The finale to a visual novel series about killing games and evil teddy bears. Let’s get to the point - for a series that has ‘Hope vs Despair’ as its motif, it sure has way too much Despair (some of it forced into our throats) and while the ending is sweet and all, there are still some loose threads here and there, which made it disappointing. I’m considering dropping the series right here and there after I saw the ending to its third game instalment, but I love certain characters too much to go through it.
(description): A very average boy finds a stray cat and takes it in, only for the cat to actually be a vampire and thus said kid is dragged into a war between vampires. Concept is interesting, but plot and character wise, it’s vanilla plain. The symbolism is fascinating though.
Dropped: 1
(description): Based on a card game, 5 worlds are in danger of colliding due to evil forces and only certain girls are chosen to fight them. Just like a winter series, I picked it up hoping for a counterpart to WIXOSS. Shame I dropped it after 3 episodes, but it’s really that bad. The monsters looked oddly suspicious, and there’s too much fanservice. Once the actual plot kicked off, I left since I could see the ending a mile away. Someday, I hope to see a card game anime just as good as WIXOSS. Or maybe I’m just being plain biased.
Fall 2016
From what I know, this is where the treasure chests start popping up.
Planned: 8
Watched: 6
Enjoyed: Lostorage incited WIXOSS, Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku, Flip Flappers, Kaitou Joker S4, Show by Rock! #, plus 1 more that needs a section all to itself.
Lostorage incited WIXOSS: While it might very well be more brutal than the original, overall it’s a wild ride from start to finish. I panicked at some scenes, and heaved a sigh of relief at others. I still love this franchise, and with a S2 of the Lostorage era in the works, I hope to be entertained further as well.
Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku: It’s Madoka Magica meets Dangan Ronpa, but while the brutal scenes are worse, overall it manages to have a satisfying end. When the light novels come out in English officially, I hope to get them and someday get to the sequels. Speaking of which, will this series get a anime sequel?
Flip Flappers: While I enjoyed the animation and the character development, the plot sadly flies over my head. I may want to rewatch this to fully understand it. Overall a cute, if mind-screwy show.
Kaitou Joker S4: Despite being darker than most, it’s overall a fun ride and hopefully more people will give it a shot and a S5. Maybe.
Show by Rock! #: The music is just as good as the 1st season and the backstory for this season’s Big Bad hit me in the heart. While I want a S3, The conclusion is satisfying in itself. I hope to see more from this series.
Want to get back in as soon as possible: Chi’s Sweet Home and Udon no Kuni no Kiniro Kemari
Chi’s Sweet Home: Full of sweetness, I watched it in the hopes of getting rid of the despair from last season. While I dropped it due to lack of subs, I truly loved the series and hope to get back into it soon.
Udon no Kuni no Kiniro Kemari: It’s Amaama to Inazuma meets Barakamon with tanukis. It’s super cute, but the short segement at the end was unnecessary in my POV. Like Chi’s Sweet Home, as soon as I have the time I want to get back into it. I think I left off at episode 6/7?
Dropped: There’s this Idol anime that has an original twist in the genre, but I forgot the plot. Despite the name having to do with memories, the show is VERY forgettable. Shame, it has potential. The thing that made me drop it is the live action talk sequence, which takes up half the episode. If they did that in another form of media, I’d keep watching.
Ensemble Darkhorse: Yuri!!! on Ice
I thought I’d never get into this show due to it being a sports anime, which I avoid due to lack of interest. But then at episode 5 there were so many people talking about it on my dash, I decided to check it out. What I thought would be a one-time thing ended up as the 3rd biggest fandom on my blog (I’m sorry if you came for another fandom and don’t like this show because of it being ALL OVER THE PLACE) due to amazing character development, lovable characters, beautiful animation, fascinating plot, well thought-of sequences and a FANTASTIC ‘screw you’ to stereotypes and cliches as it gave us a gay couple that is not queerbaiting (cutest couple 2k16 and has the honor of being the ONLY OTP with a tag to itself on this blog), characters who are contrary to what most people think of their home countries and well, basically made history. God, I can talk about this show all day. Please give us a Season 2.
I hope that 2017 will be just as entertaining as 2016 in anime, but I might end up watching lesser shows due to time and well... ... you know... ... The show I’m looking forward to the most is Season 2 of Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de aru, but maybe we’ll get some hidden gems in here somewhere.

and i really can’t believe that we had 1 month for winter break - which i thought was just a little too long. but i guess in retrospect, it was nice to end my college career with a month long winter break. LOOKING FORWARD TO 2017 (even though we’re already like 2 weeks in because i’m late in making this post...lol)
