with characters constantly haunted by ghosts of the past, trying to stay on top of the food chain despite constant betrayals and having their secrets held up above their heads, comes back kyle, from his long stay back as a guiding spirit on earth, to take back reigns of the throne in the inbetween. though much like everyone else, hes got a long list of dirty laundry that many are aching to reveal. there are no real friends here.

a year!!! as of today i have now been drawing these funny little pizza freaks, to the exclusion of almost everything else, for!!! an entire year!!! i wanted to do a nice group shot/lineup of everybody to compare to when i first started trying to draw them because oh boy were they bad. i never even posted most of them anywhere because they were so bad. but im posting them here, now, to see how everything's changed/evolved.

this is probably the hardest time i've ever had trying to figure out how to work with a style, but we got there eventually; i'm pretty happy with the handle i've got on everybody now...dont let ur memes be dreams. lots of unimportant journaling and idle thoughts abt it below.

the first one is the VERY first time i drew them, before i thought i was going to actually have any interest in drawing them [lmao]; it was just the one isolated image, for my friendserver, to illustrate the funney message, so there was no attempt to make it Good or actually understand anything going on w/ the designs or style.

second is the original run of practices sketches to start trying to figure them out for real; done after i started having ideas for the comics and such and realized oh god maybe i am actually gonna draw fanart for this. [again, lol, and lmao.]

third one is the first pt art thing i posted on here. there were a couple weeks of sprite studies between this one and the previous image. the one on the top right wasn't part of that post i just threw it on as space filler; i'd intended to shift to doing Sprite Redraws But Stylized to explore tings more, but that was the only one i did. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

individual characters

peppino: by far the hardest dear god. bro what ARE your shapes how DOES your face work. jesus christ. everything i have trouble with this style for, peppino has it in excess. i draw in polygons! i need consistency! and that is the last thing this kind of style is concerned with. they are made of squarshy clay and i do not understand how to mold them. i was really hoping trying to learn this game's style would GIVE me that kind of flexibility for fun exaggerated facial expression but i don't think much came of it in the end 😔. anyway on the bright side all this means once i got peppino figured out a little bit everybody else clicked way easier.

fake peppino: honestly i never did anything with him on purpose except for how his eyes work + the perma-smile thing. i figured ok hes supposed to look weird and off model so whatever happens with him happens. and it did. and it kept happening. it is still, in fact, happening.

noise/ette: somehow, for every bit that peppino was the least natural thing i've ever tried, these two worked pretty much right off the bat. i still don't understand it, seeing as pretty much all the things at play for peppino are also at work for them. i think the new sketches are actually a little worse than older ones but not enough that i care.

gustavo: really funny bc i drew him on model twice and just went 'okay, cool nice, easy, um. he doesn't have any fucking legs?' fortunately he was the only one i had a strong idea for how to stylize him [square] and it worked exactly as i was hoping so wahoo.

brick: is an animal and therefore 5000x easier and more natural for me to draw/stylize than anything else in the cast. that is Just a rat bro. i can draw a rat.

gerome: i think the funniest one here. the most drastic and least necessary change imo. i was gonna have him be really small at first, like smaller than the noises, but then i just... didn't. he's just peppino-sized now. also i gave him like. actual human facial structure, which is funny bc in most cases i'd do anything to avoid, but it works well for his being A Rock to give him some angles and definition like that+ to differentiate his vibe from the rest of the cast who are all very squishy. also since he is essentially Just A Head it's good to emphasize that too ig.

john: i only drew john a couple times but he gets to be here because i like him. and because most of the stuff i applied to gerome was readily applicable to john, though i did try to keep him a little more uncanny because he is a Huge And Lanky Freak. i hate that he is barefoot btw but idk how to make his color balance look right with shoes.

pizzahead: i did not want to put him on here honestly but i Have drawn him a handful of times and more importantly i didn't know what i was gonna do with john's pose if i didn't have him there to be glared at. the only thing that's different with him is giving him wider-bottomed pants, which i got from when i tried to draw these guys in clone high style [i never posted that one either][i will eventually]

snick: he gets to be here because 1. he's like 6 lines 2. i like him and 3. ive scribbled him a few times offhand and it went pretty well

there are some guys missing because those are guys i didn't draw enough [or at all] to have gotten comfortable with them. sorry

i would have Liked to shade these but for the time being i have accepted that my grasp of light/shadow has decayed to the point im not going to be happy with anything i try there, so For Now i am working on my presentation with flats i guess. gerome has a shadow only because he's shaded like that ingame and looks naked without it

anyway if you are still reading [hi?] i get to shamelessly plug now. i'm over the hill of my pizza run now, and while i still have plenty of things i want to make here, most of the bigger more in-depth ones have passed. pizza tower was the first thing in THREE YEARS to get me out of my oc groove to doing fanart, and once i am done with my ideas here i will be going right back to it. if you like my art or how i write characters/interactions you should check out my oc/webcomic blog @jamverse . i can't promise people who like pizza stuff will be terribly into my designs, but i can guarantee i treat my guys with the exact same sort of tone i handle the pt guys with. and hell, i've mentioned it a few times before, but like 70% of my characterization for fake pep is just copied off one of my characters, so if u are going to miss him... he will still be there in spirit >;p

ok back to hermpires! so i originally was gonna take an empire from s2 and just insert grian into it, but while browsing through the esmp s2 wiki i came across/remembered hermitopia and my brain went yep! this one. so i thought a bit about what grian would do if he was an empires smp member and how hermitopia would happen, and i think grian would crash the economy on purpose. i mean it almost already happened when the hermitpires crossover happened so i dont think im too far off. i think grian originally exported something simple, like maybe sugarcanes or mud, something easy to farm yknow, but then i dunno got bored or something so he made a couple more farms. then kept making more farms. then the hermitopia we all know and love happened!

actually maybe hermitopia isnt grians first empire. i think grian has a separate empire but decided to invite his friends to help him make some farms and then it just kept going. then hermitopia happened. i like the collaboration aspect of hermitopia so i think thats how that happens. hermitopia isnt necessarily grian's but its under his command so it gets called his. (isnt there a word for this? was it vassalage? i think its vassalage)

with that in mind i went with a robot-y grian because grumbot and a snazzy cool suit because business man (sidenote im looking over my pre art notes and one of them is just capitalism man and. yeah! not wrong). i gave him more steampunk-y wings than the usual feathery ones cause that fit better. i gave him a crown not really sure why but it fits since without it the design was more Just A Guy but with it he's more Emperor yknow. the buttons have a g on it because he would and an (attempted) gold trim cause that looked nice and fancy. originally he was gonna have four wings cause fun fact four wings is part of my base grian design but four wings kind of crowded the drawing so i didnt include them (sad) and i also didnt include the tail hes supposed to have because i couldnt find a good way to add it in with the pose. but in my heart he has both four wings and a tail

now why magazine style artwork? i 'unno. i thought itd look cool. and it does!! it looks SO cool!!! im so proud of it. recap magazine!! because of course im gonna make a hermitcraft recap reference are you kidding me recap is practically already a magazine reporting what gossip is happening on the hermitcraft server on any given week. its very specifically volume 9 issue 34 because thats when the crossover happened season 9 week 34 babey we love little esoteric details hell yeah!! i looked up how magazine covers work and its supposed to be like, main article big and smaller supporting side articles just kinda floating around so i did that!! and i made them funney references because of course i did! local bard catches scurvy because you cannot convince me that oli orionsound would not catch scurvy he would. does god is gay is a reference to that does bruno mars is gay nonsense article that makes me laugh everytime specifically in reference about mr smallish bean because he. has so many children. and none of them as far as i know from the lady server members theyre all lovechilds from gay lovers its hysterical and hilarious. quit your job join our sun cult is about the dawn empire because thatse the vibe that empire gives me and i think its funny. also!! thats hermitopia!! in the background!! i got the image off of the empires smp wiki and just Biggen'd it and it makes a bomb ass background hell yeah ^-^!!

wild zzz theory but hear me out... if grace is (canonically) the foot woman, and piper is the armpit gal... does that make rina for the hand fetishists?? okay i might sound batshit for that one but let's be real here, look at this woman's hands:

she's always got them propped up in front of her like little raptor hands? it's adorable as fuck. she's definitely got the whole ethereal/ghost vibes going on (no seriously how the fuck does she just Float like that) and if you actually follow her hands in her animations here? the way her fingers splay outwards and sweep her little bangboo around her as if attached by strings... it's so captivating and i can't stop focusing on them, it's honestly gorgeous im not gonna lie static screenshots here don't really do them justice, you just have to see them in motion also just look at those gloves

so i finally watched the Barbie movie, and it was... good. like, i really enjoyed myself, it's very funny, it's acted well, it LOOKS amazing.

but... am i the only one who feels like the script should've had, like... another good month or two to cook?

and i don't mind the lack of explanation. like, it never explained why Barbieland is this, like, weird demiplane connected to Earth and the Barbies are real and not only can they go to the real world and function basically as people, but real people can also travel to Barbieland. it was one of those things where i could easily go, yeah, sure, whatever. like, maybe they could've fleshed that out a bit, but it didn't distract me enough to say that would be necessary

but I'm talking about the actual plot, and the message of the film. it felt... clunky. I've seen people criticize it for being "intro feminism" but i don't even think it's that. i want to watch it again and have a more detailed and in depth analysis, but i remember a few things that bothered me. the idea that the deconditioned barbies used their wiles to make the kens jealous and turn on each other in order to defeat them felt... bad. the way the film said "manipulative women win" felt SO icky, especially how that was just kind of accepted and worked just fine and wasn't called out. and the way that Ryan's Ken was like "i thought it was all about horses anyway" yet the concept of men finding community with each other over common interests was never seen as a positive topic to explore, and it just all came down to oppressing the Barbies.

the whole movie implied that this is what the world would be like if the roles were reversed, right? if women were the one in charge and men were put down and subservient. yet all the kens were dumb, and ignorant, and only cared about the attention from their Barbies. and at the end, president Barbie said "maybe things shouldn't go back to the way things were" and the film recognizes that the kens were bad off... but then made the joke that they were "not ready" for equal representation? "maybe someday" a ken can be in the supreme court, but for now, they have to learn, and they're gonna have to work their way up. if we flip that metaphor and apply it to real life, flip the roles... that feels disgusting. you can't have a reverse metaphor and put down men at the same time. the reason why women haven't had equal rights is exactly this narrative, that they weren't "ready," that they were ignorant or dumb, that they wouldn't use their rights or power "correctly," and that's exactly what the film said about the kens. and it was a joke! funney!!!

it felt like they had this basic idea for the movie and did the worldbuilding centered on the fact that they're dolls and ken is just There while they're a million barbies with a bunch of different careers. and then when they tried to come up with a story, they had to shoehorn in the feminist stuff... and it just did not land for me. if they wanted this to have been a feminist piece for the ages, they should've started there.

I'm actually surprised at the lack of analysis and criticism I've seen of the actual story of the movie. I'm sure it's out there, but i haven't done across it. i know this was written just after covid, and it was written during the worst time to be a writer if we consider the timing of the strike. but... i still wish it had been edited. i think it would've fared much better had they've consulted with feminist and gender study scholars. i think it would've led to a much better lesson and a much tighter script.

Uhhh funney little fun facts abt FM and UM cuz heehoo.

-FM will occasionally transport creatures or supplies across the land if asked. Built for cargo carrying.

-UM thinks it is very funny driving her can into vultures and turning them into meat paste. Her fans and turbines look rusty because of this.

-FM isn't beyond firing warning shots at people. Extremely good shot though, won't hit until he wants to.

-If you see just random scugs or colonies with mark, they probably ran into FUM.

-FM holds the braincell but is NOT beyond being a little shit on occasion.

-When UM is pissed she makes her dockings purposefully hard on FM. Their ports are a bit damaged because of this.

-FUM Does keep track of entrances to the void sea and will point most creatures they come across to the nearest point. If only on principle.

-They can't live with each other. But they also can't live without each other for more than reasons abt water and whatnot.

-FM goes down first. UM spends her last cycles sending forced messages that will never be received, even knowing he is gone.

what’s powering this whole Angel/demon system? Are humans a part of it? Is god harvesting humans for sin and regret?

tbh i prefer to leave the more like blatantly theological aspects a lil ambiguous for funsies and to leave things open to interpretation but the gist is that, regardless of what the objective Truth may be, angels are beings who believe themselves to be the messengers, architects, and when necessary, soldiers of capital g god.

but new orders havent been coming in for a looong time, so angels, being sort of singleminded beings by nature, have just sort of been retreading the same ground over and over since bible times. studying the scripture, spreading messages of love and light, polishing up the ol holy swords in preparation for the day they are called to use them at last, etc etc etccc. its like if you combined a nun with a doomsday prepper. theres also the matter of the angel hierarchy that dictates who exactly does what to keep celestial society running on like an internal level but thats the basic vibe.

angels mostly exist within the celestial realm but they have outposts in the mortal realm as well (because demons started setting up shop there and they didnt want to be shown up). while angels are only supposed to go to earth for business purposes, theres not always a whole lot of oversight on their activities and in modern times there are plenty who are just kinda. living normal lives amongst humankind.

and in the other corner, demons. contrary to common belief, they are not all or even mostly fallen angels. theyre their own thing, occupants of the infernal realm and dealers in human misery and avarice. back in ye olde days it was just you know every once in a while one of these funney little guys with pop in the mortal realm to fuck with humans or trick them into selling their soul for a piddling bit of magic or whatever, but over time they industrialized and now hell is a massive sprawling enterprise with a highly competitive and highly confusing economic system and no clear idea who is at the top.

its an mlm. its just literally a really big slightly more evil than normal mlm scheme.

angels and demons have had beef from the very beginning, not least of all because team infernal keeps bringing those angels who cant stay the path over to their side, but also just about every non-infernal beastie in existence thinks devils are kind of a bunch of little yuppie shits. actually, neither side is particularly well liked by the rest of creature-kind come to think of it.

btw shouldve mentioned earlier but humanity in this world is like. vaguely aware of the paranormal and such. angels are more of a rarity because one of the many many rules they abide by forbids them from doing anything that could bring harm to humans (gods specialest little guys) which over time, following several Incidents, has been expanded to mean "dont reveal yourself to humans or ideally even interact with them unless absolutely necessary", meanwhile demons whole deal kind of requires direct interaction. they might keep the horns under wraps until theyve got your signature for obvious reasons, but at this point everyones got a cousins best friends uncle who did some shady shit at a crossroads and came back with a crazy story and a blurry photo of some cloven hooves or smth.

tldr god is not rly a factor here. demons deal in mortal souls for power and promotions back in hell and angels intervene wherever they can. otherwise everyones just kinda doing their own thing. its more in line with like the pop culture tradition of angels and demons as fantasy creatures of a kind more than anything specifically religious, though i think its sort of impossible and tbh kind of boring to try and avoid all the source mythology.

LIZZI THAT'S HARD

instinct says new who s1/s4/s10, classic who s12/s25 and like, i am right and i know that because they're the series' that everyone ever would pick. well maybe people would pick s13 classic because pyramids of mars rightfully is a banger episode but overall i think sarah is better in her earlier series - not that she's ever NOT good but like, she's at her strongest when she's more than just tom baker's funney friend, and s12 has genesis (which unpopular opinion, is more boring than everyone thinks) but objectively, it's a best. and of course s25 is remembrance, happiness patrol, silver nemesis, greatest show, and you'd probably struggle to get a better run of episodes (no i don't care what people say silver nemesis IS good it's FUN and dr who is no good when it's not FUN)

and you can't beat the way the end of s1 makes you feel. i don't care what people say, the slitheen are fine actually. actually all of s1 is so raw - the end of the world? father's day? dalek? boom town? (yes everyone who hates boom town is WRONG christoper eccleston is SO POWERFUL). and how can you dislike s4 like really. 10&donna are in the top three iconic doctor/companion duos of all time. they are just that good. there's actually not a single episode of s4 i find a bit of a slog which i do in pretty much every other new who series. and do i even need to say why s10 is the best? it's moff actually following through on his potential. it's the gorgeous and devastating finale. it's bill potts!!!

so yea i think i stand by that as best. unfortunately i think the masses are right on this one. but in terms of best to me, classic s7 (liz shaw BELOVED), s11 (because sarah is the best in her first series, she really is), s23 (trial of a time lord is good actually everyone else who hates it can shut up. do they not like fun????); and new s5 (anyone who hates amy can fight me and also like. it does make sense. like it's silly and overcomplicated but you're telling me the big bang doesn't make you feel?). they're the best in my heart and i won't be dissuaded

Originally this was me trying to get the vibe for Toby again (I had to look up a reference for his stripes my 5th grade self was rolling) and then it tumbled away into general creepypasta shit. A few details and explanations in the down there part.

- I only read YCYD once months ago and it wasn't really my bag with the removal of the supernatural elements tho I can definitely appreciate how it's done and I really like Toby in ski goggles. So I just kinda stole that particular design choice and a few other really small bits. Sorry reabees you have a very strong narrator voice meant as a compliment. Another thing is that I hold to Toby having a facial scar but instead of just. Chewing through his cheek my headcanon is that his dad fought back and tore through it with his keys. I don't get what the muzzle is so it's just a dark face mask now!

- Nat is so hard AUGH. I don't like Natalie's base story or design I think its like especially bad for cp standards I think the tanktop is annoying bc of old fanart the clock eye is STUPID not even a think statement there. But it's hard to try and redesign and recontextualize her in a way that the personality and backstory just snaps so I did whatever! Gave her a kinda militant hunter vibe bc of my headcanons about her family and situation, gave her orange hair bc she's Irish now, and picked up the time obsession in a way that makes fucking sense (she's living on borrowed time via Zalgo so she can't waste a second and keeps meticulous track of how long things take) so she's covered in time pieces under her jacket plus that stop watch.

- (pasting from a dm convo) Sally's design and character in the larger fandom have never connected for me like they just don't feel right. If Sally died while on a store run why would she manifest in her nightgown. Why does she have blood running down her face, is the implication supposed to be that her uncle busted her head in? The whole reason he's killing her is to make sure she doesn't tell, he's just putting himself in prison for way longer it's idiocy. And then her character, Sally was supposedly a super normal kid, there's no indication that even after something bad happens to her she'd do anything like take it out on other people, especially innocents. Like realistically if Sally was haunting your house perhaps there'd some misbehavior bc that's still a traumatized little kid but not MURDER. So to remedy this bullshit I gave Sally some play clothes and implied she was instead strangled. I like playing with Sally as ghost who doesn't remember anything so she's actually still super sweet and bored and reckless which is what can make her dangerous for younger kids her age bc she can't die so she has no self-preservation.

They always wanted to get into music a little I think. As a kid it was a love of stars and karaoke, but they kinda fell out of love for that sorta stuff when they were like a tween? Because their self confidence tanked for some time. When they discovered DJing and electronic music though, they got pretty damn hooked on it and went right back. Felt great to discover a way to reconnect with their old passion in a way that fit them much better. No need to sing or come up with the right words or do what others wished they would do... they could just be.

He moved out of his mom's house when he was like 16-17 after a bad fight. He spent those years between this and the band couch surfing, staying in some rather nasty situations before moving back in with his sister, who had already left their home, for a while.

They do live with Val, idk abt the Cellist tho. I wonder if the building below the venue in Jammin Salmon Junction is a house? If so maybe they live there. I kinda like to imagine theyre with Val in one building and the one the Cellist is in another close by and they have a little string-and-tin-can phone system up w/ a little pulley thing too.

DJ's really into tech in general. Their niche is the music but they wanna get into coding and stuff. They also like graffiti, rap and breakdancing, lots of that urban art... They're a bit of a party animal but the magic of it fades fast esp when things get out of hand...

Oh and for Splatfest: woulda rooted for Team Fun, Grass, Sweet, White Chocolate (bc funney) Aliens, Power and uhhh Vanilla. Or Strawberry. idk!!
