The city of Athens has invited local street artists to undertake the city’s telephone line distribution boxes and transform them into works of art. (They are called KAFAO from the German acronym KV – KabelVerzweiger and most are installed on the pavements of the city).

This is Athens – Polis Project. Image by City of Athens / Athens Partnership The artists have submitted their proposals online and, after the selection process, they will be provided with materials of their choice, free of charge, to complete their work. The Athens Partnership organisation which is behind this action, will cover the finished works with a protective anti-tagging coat and add a plaque with information about the artists and their work.

Η ιδέα τα ΚΑΦΑΟ να μεταμορφώνονται σε υπαίθριους καμβάδες, να φιλοτεχνούνται και από άχαρα σιδερένια αντικείμενα να μετατρέπονται σε έργα τέχνης έχει εδώ  και ορισμένα χρόνια, υιοθετηθεί σε πολλές πόλεις ανά την Ευρώπη. Χαρακτηριστικό παράδειγμα πόλης που πρωτοπορεί στην ευρύτερη περιοχή της Μακεδονίας, προς την κατεύθυνση αυτή, η Κατερίνη, όπου με την αγαστή συνεργασία του ΟΤΕ, περισσότερα από 30 ΚΑΦΑΟ του αστικού ιστού, στις οδούς Μεγάλου Αλεξάνδρου, Τσιμισκή, Κρυστάλλη, Κύπρου, Ειρήνης, Θεσσαλονίκης, Φλέμινγκ κ.α., καθώς και στις πλατείες Δημαρχείου, Ελευθερίας και Μακεδονίας καθαρίστηκαν και…. πλημμύρισαν εικόνες και χρώμα.Όπως χαρακτηριστικά τονίζει ο Δήμαρχος Κώστας Κουκοδήμος: «Οι συντονισμένες δράσεις και πρωτοβουλίες μας για τον εξωραϊσμό της πόλης συνεχίζονται. Στόχος μας είναι να ομορφύνει το κέντρο της πόλης, καθώς επίσης να καθαριστούν και να αναδειχτούν όψεις ιδιωτικών και δημοσίων κτιρίων, να μετατραπούν γιατί όχι σε έργα τέχνης και να προστατευτεί η αρχιτεκτονική κληρονομιά του τόπου. Χαιρόμαστε ιδιαίτερα όταν βλέπουμε στα μέσα κοινωνικής δικτύωσης πλήθος κατοίκων και επισκεπτών να αγκαλιάζουν τις δράσεις μας αυτές, να φωτογραφίζονται με τους πρωταγωνιστές των εικόνων που φιλοτεχνήθηκαν στα ΚΑΦΑΟ»Επιπλέον, ο Δήμαρχος σημειώνει: «Παράλληλα, αποφασίσαμε να τιμήσουμε τους Ολυμπιονίκες μας, φιλοτεχνώντας τις μορφές τους αγκαλιά με την ελληνική σημαία. Με τον τρόπο αυτό θέλουμε να εκφράσουμε την ευγνωμοσύνη μας για τις επιτυχίες που μας χάρισαν και μας χαρίζουν. Ευχαριστούμε τον ΟΤΕ για την άρτια και δημιουργική συνεργασία, τόσο με τα καρτοτηλέφωνα όσο και στην προκειμένη περίπτωση με τα ΚΑΦΑΟ».Τα χρωματιστά και ζωγραφισμένα ΚΑΦΑΟ του κέντρου της Κατερίνης, αφήνουν πλέον στο περιθώριο το γκρίζο. Προκειμένου στο μέτρο του δυνατού να προστατευθούν τα σχέδια, τα κουτιά των κατανεμητών επενδύθηκαν με ειδική υδροφοβική επίστρωση, ενώ ο σεβασμός της συγκεκριμένης δράσης από όλους, συνιστά  προϋπόθεση για να  χαρούμε κάτοικοι και επισκέπτες τις όμορφες αυτές εικόνες.Πηγή: TVNEA.COM

Přiznám se, pády na hubu nejsou jednoduché. 🤔 Člověk se sice zvedne a jde dál. 🚶‍♀️A pokud má dost kuráže, tak jde dál se vztyčenou hlavou. 💃 Ale ono vás to pořád nahání, takže se za chvilku přistihnete, že před tím utíkáte, protože dobře víte, že na boj zblízka ještě nejste připravení. 🏃‍♀️Jenže vás ten běh paradoxně dost vysiluje a jsou chvíle, kdy vás minulost dožene a mlátí vás klackem do žaludku, zatímco vy se svíjíte v křečích a přejete si, aby to skončilo. ☠️ Už jsem toho měla dost, tak jsem se před tím radši schovala na strom, pozoruju z dálky dění kolem sebe a odpočívám, než naberu sílu tomu čelit tváří v tvář. 💪 Mezitím doufám, že se pode mnou nezlomí větev, takže jsem sladké radši vyměnila za kvalitní snídani (v 11 hodin🙈) a neodpustila si jedno kafao (kafe + kakao), aby mi to přemýšlení, co teď, šlo líp. 🥝☕️ Vrhla jsem se na malování, protože to je teď můj strom, který mi dává sílu se z toho života nepo... 💩 Ale nutrie se vrátí. Ο Δήμος Γρεβενών και το Γενικό Νοσοκομείο, έδωσαν χρώμα στον αύλειο χώρο του Νοσοκομείου Γρεβενών αξιοποιώντας το δημιουργικό ταλέντο της ζωγράφου Δήμητρας Μπαζούκη, με το μπλε χρώμα της ελπίδας να κυριαρχεί. Με το μπλε χρώμα της ηρεμίας και της γαλήνης να κυριαρχεί, η ζωγράφος Δήμητρα Μπαζούκη – μετά τα πανέμορφα kafao art – δημιούργησε ένα νέο έργο τέχνης που κοσμεί πραγματικά τον αύλειο χώρο…

Streets of Athens turn into sprawling art gallery with painted phone boxes

The Art on KAFAO project, is part of a wider initiative (This is Athens – Polis) to clear more than 20,000 square-metres of walls from graffiti, tags and illegal posters and is a follow up on the successful Commercial Triangle project that was completed two years ago, when more than 8300 square-metres of public surfaces were cleared, old buildings were put back to use and six streets were pedestrianised, all with the support of private business donors.

The wider aims of the joint venture’s initiatives are to “upgrade infrastructure, pedestrianise central streets, redesign cleaning and municipal police services, and renew urban equipment”, in other words to “restore the proper functioning of the area”.

Alexandros Kambouroglou, the executive director of Athens Partnership told Lonely Planet: “the Historic Centre of Athens hosts many architectural treasures, which are often covered by graffiti and tags. We are cleaning building facades and inviting Athens’ vibrant artistic community to create on a public space canvas. With over 100 commissioned works in the city centre, visitors and residents will enjoy a sprawling open space art gallery unlike anywhere else. “
