The original manga is one my favorite versions of hongo takeshi and Ichimonji hayato's story/stories. Here's two reasons why:
1. Cartoon bug antennas that can move
2. We don't get to see much after hongo and Ichimonji become one rider in shin Kamen rider, and more than half of the manga is just that! When that happens, hongo's facial scars surface alongside ichimonji's 🥹
I can't believe I still haven't finished the manga, I might do that today :)

was Takeshi becoming like a robot in the manga meant to the height of his self-loathing and dehumanizing spiral throughout the book.
How after his augmentation he saw himself as nothing more than a tool that lived only to stop SHOCKER.
His continuing insistence that Takeshi Hongo was nothing more than a mask that “Hid the monsterous Kamen Rider” as he refuses himself basic needs such as companionship and any amenity.
How after SHOCKER is defeated Ichimonji and Junko have to live with grief at the bitter cruelty of mankind while Hongo is just gone.
That in the end he has taken his belief that there is no man behind the Mask of Kamen Rider to its logical conclusion
