watched quantumania yesterday and I really liked their illustration of the quantum realm, it was also my introduction to Kang who I really fw or at least Jonathan Majors' execution of the role
Tumblr media
got me interested in checking out comics with him and the first one I've been checking out has been pretty rad and also pretty much confirmed the feeling I got from him that he's DOOM × infinity, which again made me wish we had a proper proper DOOM on screen

The Only Way: Kang the Conqueror x Reader
Summary: Kang falls in love with you in every single universe, and you always get in the way. He decides to put an end to it.
Words: 800+
Warnings: some swears and sad ending
Author’s Notes: Another angsty Kang fic sorry not sorry! 😂 I promise I’m trying to write a happy one eventually lol

Kang has always felt like home to you.
He took you in immediately when you found yourself in the Quantum Realm by accident, terrified out of your mind with no idea how you got there. It almost felt like you’ve known him all your life, yet another phenomenon you can’t explain.
Since that day, he’s shown you everything in this strange world, inviting you into his empire and having you rule by his side. There’s nothing he doesn’t share with you, and you can’t help but fall for the unconditional kindness and love he gives you. Soon enough you’re waking up to his soft smile, spending your days together in the city, and falling asleep with his strong arms around you. The world above slowly becomes forgotten, and Kang becomes your world instead.
That is, until you hear of five humans coming to the Quantum Realm, one being someone Kang especially despises.
He told you the story early on, and you know how badly he’s wanted to get his technology working again. This might be your chance to take your life together back to Earth.
But Kang doesn’t seem to have the same attitude as you about this. He wants to use the humans to get out, yes, but becomes distant to you as soon as he hears this news.
He’s never acted like this with you. He retreats inside himself, shutting you out while you assume he’s thinking about how to proceed. You’re not sure how to get through to him in this state--you know he can have a cold demeanor--but never around you.
“Kang, please,” you place your hand on top of his. “Please talk to me. What’s going on?”
“I need to be left alone,” he refuses to meet your gaze. “Don’t make this harder than it needs to be,”
“What are you talking about?”
He stands up, stepping towards the door, “The humans have what I need to get out of here,”
“I know!” you yell at him, exasperated. “Aren’t you happy about that? Don’t you want to get out of here together?”
“Y/N…” he finally looks at you in the eyes, and you swear you see tears in them, “You can’t come with me,”
“Are you serious?” your voice remains raised. “Why the fuck not?”
“You wouldn’t understand,”
“I think I understand you better than anyone else in this realm, honey,” you say the pet name without the usual sweetness. “Is there something about these people you haven’t told me?”
You try to go to him once more, but he pushes you away. You don’t try it again because you know he could push you way harder if he wanted to, and it might even hurt more than your heart right now.
“In every single universe and every single timeline…” he whispers just loud enough for you to hear. “I can’t stop myself from falling for you.”
His eyes turn to a glare, and you feel faint. Everything you thought you knew comes crashing down, down through your very soul.
“You...you’ve known me in other universes?”
“Of course I have,”
“But why does that change anything? Why can’t I come with you?”
“Fuck, Y/N!” he curses under his breath, anger filling his normally soft features, “Don’t you understand? I’ve had to kill you in every single universe I’ve conquered, because you always get in the way! I’ve tried. I’ve tried to love you and fix the multiverse at the same time, but it’s impossible. I can’t afford distractions from what I must do.”
You feel as if your life leaves you right then and there, barely even processing his words. For the first time since you’ve been with him, you feel fear. You’re afraid of what he might do to you, and how brutally he might do it. If he’s killed you multiple times before, it must not be difficult for him.
The blind love begins to fade away in a way you never thought it could. His strong build is no longer a comfort of protection, but an immediate threat. His eyes are no longer warm and inviting, but the empty eyes of a killer. You never thought you’d have to beg for your life from the man you loved so much.
“Kang...please,” is all you can manage to get out, your voice shaking uncontrollably.
He finally touches you again, hands caressing your face. You don’t flinch, even though you know you probably should. Despite the fear shaking every bone in your body, he’s still your everything.
“I will make it painless,” he kisses your forehead. “Don’t worry,”
You wrap your arms around him, cheek against his cool armor, “How many of me have you killed?”
“I’ve lost count…” he says solemnly. “But I assure you, I never enjoy it,”
“Why can’t we conquer the Earth together? Why do you have to do it alone?” you continue to plead, even though it’s no use anymore.
“I must,” he holds you tighter. “It’s the only way,”

Kang the Conqueror: Only Myself Left to Conquer
Tumblr media
I read the Kang miniseries and it was... A mix bag, really. It's only 5 issues so it's not long enough to bother but I think it's the length that hurts it the most, because it has some really fun ideas.
It tells the story of Nathaniel Richards before he became Kang looking for a way to escape his time that he finds boring, but before he could even become Iron-Lad, a Kang meets him and takes him to a few days before the meteor that killed the dinosaurs hit earth to train him. There are many twists and it plays with all of Kang's history but this is how it starts, and yeah, it's a very strong start!
Tumblr media
But after this first issue, you start noticing the biggest problem with the book, it's all mostly narration with very little dialogue, and for a visual medium like comics, being told that happens is very distracting and annoying. And here comes what I said at the beginning, I believe it's the short length of this series that played against it, because Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly had fantastic ideas for a fun Kang series that could never fit 5 issues so they had to write it in a way they could move things fast but it ends up hurting the experience a lot.
Tumblr media
The art is fantastic, Carlos Magno's art and colors are fantastic and the work he does with panels is as well, he really makes the reading experience better by making very unique panels and pages to accompany the narration, but it's also a shame he couldn't draw an actual story. In a way, this feels more like the entry on a wiki page telling you what a character's deal is instead of telling you then actual story.
Tumblr media
But then again, it's 5 issues so it's not unbearable and again, the book has some really cool ideas playing with this new variant of Kang and how he tries to actually alter his own history. If you're like me and like to see at least cool ideas, then I recommend checking this out because you do get something out of it, but if you don't care about Kang or any of that, I recommend skipping it.

Books read in 2022 #94 - “Kang the Conqueror: Only Myself Left to Conquer” by Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly & Carlos Magno
Tumblr media
With Kang set to be the “big bad” of the next arc of Marvel movies, this volume aims to explore his various incarnations throughout Marvel’s comics history.
And what better guide to the lives of an immortal time-traveling conquerer than a younger version of himself plucked from a far future and schooled in what makes Kang, Kang.
It’s an interesting attempt to weave a cohesive story out of a complex web of loosely connected events, while also trying to provide insight and motive to a multifaceted character.
But it is hampered by the subjects inherent complexity involving time-travel, variants, paradoxes, parallel incarnations, etc.
It just reinforced that there is no such thing as a straightforward narrative for a character like Kang, which makes me wonder just how he will be explained to the more general movie audience.

Kang's obsession with Ravonna is even wierder in Only Myself Left to Conquer. What is he obsessed with ? All those Ravonnas he created are completely different people. They have different lives, different physical appearences, all they share is a name and the vague concept of being a Variant of a woman he knew for a few days. So really, what is he obsessed with ?
I think he's obsessed with the concept of Ravonna as the woman he will never have. The first time he hears about her, it's from the mouth of his older self, who's drunk and rambling. Then he meets his own Ravonna, and it's the first (and last time) he experiences genuine and healthy affection. After that, he's stuck in a loop of nostalgia, never being able to reproduce this innocence with any of the next Ravonnas he meets. But it's never Ravonna's fault. Post Apocalypse Ravonna would probably been very happy to have a companion if Nathaniel had treated her like a human being. The saddest thing is that she didn't explain why his words were so offensive, but I suppose he was already too far gone in his megalomania.
And the fate of the Infinite Ravonnas is even worse. He litterally mass produced those Variants, knowing full well most of them would live miserable existances in dying worlds, with the only purpose of "saving one". I am fascinated by how a person can delude themselves to the point of purposefully causing endless suffering just to have one occasion of being the "hero". And until the end, he doesn't mind killing them like defective toys when they resist him (good grief our TVA Ravonna kicked his ass ^^).
And that final scene is perfect. In a fit of rage, he goes on a killing spree, murdering a poor villager woman with his bare hands, only to realise she was the last Ravonna alive. It's a perfect metaphor of his total absense of true purpose and humanity.
I think Only Myself Left to Conquer is my favourite Marvel comic book, along side 2007 Thor and Loki Agent of Asgard.

Hello! I love your blog! I want to ask if you can make a story of Raiden having sexual tension with his ex wife? Like she watches him train shirtless or something 😂 (I’m just thirsty for Raiden tbh)
Thundering rain
Raiden x Ex wife Reader
Ohhh my goodness! You are my first request! Thanks so much! I actually read this at 1am last night when you sent it and I was so excited! Oh and quick warning, this does get a bit steamy at the end, no smut though, but of course if anybody wanted a part 2...
Tumblr media
The clouds defended from the sun, leaving no light down onto the Sky temple. A large stone balcony below was illuminated by a couple hundred candles. Behind one of the many pillars surrounding the training area, was a woman. She wore sleeveless, black robes, two metal rings were on each of her upper arms. Her scowl seemed permanent as she watched a man on the balcony.
Soft grunts filled air as the thunder god struck the invisible foe. He kicked and punched gracefully, never once becoming distracted by his surroundings. His hat rested on a crate nearby, his vest lay right next to it. The gods long silver locks flowed gently in the wind, the silk top of his robe peeled down, revealing his chest.
S/o growled silently to herself, nails clicking against the wall as sudden voices came from the halls behind her.
“She’s back!? Again?” A male said in a slightly rude tone.
“Yes, I suggest we tread lightly, she looked as if she wanted to eat me alive when I glanced at her.” A more respectful voice answered.
“Poor Raiden, marrying that woman was probably the worst decision of his li- ahh!” The monk was cut off as they turned the corner to find an extremely pissed off immortal woman seething at them.
The two men quickly turned the other way, their pace almost a run. “Kung Lao, Liu Kang!”
They both froze, glancing at each other before cautiously approaching S/o. She crossed her arms, eyes going from one monk to the other. “Hello boys. Good to see you again.” Her glare made her polite tone unbelievable.
The two monks looked at each other before both respectfully bowing, “S/o it’s… unexpected to see you here again, do you have business with the thunder god?” Liu Kang asked.
“I don’t need to have a gods damn reason to be here!” She snapped. “I was here when this cursed place was built and I’ll be here long after.”
“So you’re just here, on your own free will, just to watch Raiden train on the top balcony?” Liu Kang asked, careful not to come across as sarcastic.
“Shirtless?” Kung Lao added.
“I’m here because I enjoy the scenery!” The immortal growled. The monks analyzed the area around them, the dark sky painting over the sun, a sudden burst of lightning lashing out. Rain pouring and whipping at the backs of anybody who dared to emerge from the safety of the tower.
“Yes… it’s very nice…” Kung Lao said. “But I’m afraid we must get going, we have uh… business to discuss with the thunder god!” Tipping his hat, he grabbed the chosen one and bolted out of s/o’s sight, making a Beeline to the silver haired god.
“Lord Raiden!” Liu Kang started, earning the gods attention.
“Your scary ex wife is back.” Kung Lao announced. Raiden looked up, gaze meeting S/o’s briefly before she looked away. “I’m pretty sure she’s here to kill you.”
“I see, how long has she been there?” He sighed, brushing his hair out of his face.
“Well I first saw her a couple of hours ago climbing up the stairs, she was on the… 367th floor at the time I believe?” Liu Kang answered, his face strained trying to remember.
“Thank you, I must go speak with her now.” And with that, he started to walk over to the borderline feral woman.
“May Neatherealm have mercy on his soul.” Kung Lao mumbled as they both watched the god halt next to the immortal.
“S/o? Is everything alright?” He asked carefully. Blood krept onto the woman’s face as she quickly turned her head.
“Ya. I’m fine.” She answered quickly.
“Why are you here? Surely you have better things to do then scare the monks?” He prompted. S/o blinked and glanced over as his shirtless form. His body was certainly toned and muscled, the rain dripped down his body, tracing each crevice and adding an overall exaggeration of the man's body. “S/o?”
His voice brought her back to reality. She quickly thought, her and her ex husband had rarely had any civil conversations since they left, this was… refreshing. “I… I came back for my… crown.”
He tilted his head, confused, eyes at full attention. S/o felt a maddening blush overtake her, damn his rare, innocent expressions. “You know! That old golden one, with the glowing gems, it covers my forehead and curves down to my cheeks? Looked like a conquerors helm? I used to wear it with my armor?”
Recognition filled his glowing eyes as he nodded, “Oh yes, I remember. Do you… plan on wearing it?” He asked carefully.
S/o wanted to slap herself for picking the crown as her excuse. The crown was gifted to her by some ancient king of a realm conquered by Shao Kahn long ago. It was given to her after her wedding with Raiden, a symbol of her status as his wife. It also granted her great strength, yes she would use that as an excuse.
“Well obviously.” She snapped. “I plan on… participating in the mortal Kombat tournament.” She finished awkwardly. Raiden raised a brow.
“What do you have to gain from it? You are already an immortal s/o. Besides, what realm would you represent?” He asked.
“I- I, I don’t need to explain myself to you Raiden! Just take me to your damn room so I can grab it.” She angrily stuttered. Raiden grimaced but started to make his way to his things on the crate, the flexing of his back muscles quickly made s/o grab him. He turned, his gaze questioning. “By the elder gods, just teleport us really quick, no need to stop what you’re doing!”
“Very well then.” With a sudden flash, they were both standing in a clearly abandoned room. Dust has settled on their bed, candles were blown out and all of her things looked untouched. She blinked in surprise.
“You… haven’t used this room since I left?” She asked, her questioning gaze landing on the god.
He frowned. “Gods don’t need sleep, I only chose to sleep because you were beside me. Without you, this room is meaningless to me.” Something about that sentence stabbed through her heart as she quickly turned the other direction.
“Let’s just… get the crown so you don’t have to see me again.” She mumbled, opening her dresser drawers.
“Why would you think I wouldn’t want to see you again?” He inquired, walking over to her, strong, soaked muscles shining in the window light. Fuck, no no no.
“I was the one who left, figured you would hold it to me.” She answered quietly.
Guilt clouded his eyes, he halted behind her “we both were at blame. I’m sorry if I ever made you think it was purely you at fault.”
S/o huffed, “oh so I suppose we are just supposed to kiss and make up now?” Her voice dripped with sarcasm.
“I would not be opposed to that.” He stated simply. S/o felt her eyes widening, she turned around only to see Raiden, still without a fucking shirt, giving her an expectant look.
He couldn’t really expect this to work? Just kiss and say sorry and BAM marriage fixed! But then again they never necessarily got a divorce, they simply mutually agreed to stay the hell away from each other- fuck why was she overthinking this?
A fucking shirtless GOD was before her, asking her for a kiss. The answer shouldn’t have even taken a second.
Without a warning she grabbed him, slamming him against one of the tall bed post and placed her lips on his. He was definitely startled by the sudden movement but he returned the kiss anyway.
S/o leaned forward on him, hands finding his wrist and pinning them. She wicked onto his lower lip, biting it slightly. The god groaned, opening his mouth, giving her the perfect opportunity to claim it. There was no battle for dominance, only simple sweet submissiveness.
Sliding her body downwards, she left his still gasping lips, going down until her mouth met his neck. She mouthed his throat all over, nipping at all of his sweet spots that she had spent thousands of years memorizing. Each one granted a new sound of pure desperation.
Finally she pulled away, releasing Raiden from her hold. She took a moment to look at her work. Raiden leaned against the post, panting, his hair messy, his lip bleeding and small dark marks beginning to form on his throat.
Yes, this was going to be a very long night indeed.

Reading Only Myself Left to Conquer for the first time : Ooh, Nathaniel gets war paint that looks like Kang's mask by a stone age witch, what a nice Easter egg.
Reading it for the second time : Nathaniel is given a warning and a condemnation by Khonshu through the mouth of his avatar, the last Ravonna Renslayer clone alive who's about to die by the hands of Kang. I am not okay.
