in honor of the new men in black movie looking like its gonna be cool as shit may i offer u all a ffxv pwomptis -crunchy bass- i-it’s the M.I.Bz au where:

noctis is a legacy agent whose dad is a director but is still a rookie to the agency with difficulty holding down a partner due to everyone’s nervousness about having the director’s son as their partner.

instead, he tags along on gladio and ignis’ missions to get field experience and also! to whine.

their latest mission is to tail and protect a guy who’s the kid of a protected witness who testified against an intergalactic criminal empire.

part of the mission is to make sure their target isn’t made aware of them since SURPRISE!!! he is completely unaware that his parent was up to all this wild shit and is now being targetted bc he is also unaware that he has the Macguffin Object

DOUBLE SURPRISE!!! he’s prompto, local quirky freelance photographer/waiter of the diner noctis happened to frequent

by quirky i mean that he’s a difficult person to tail because he doesn’t follow any routines or take regular routes home and noctis thinks prompto’s onto him only a week in even though he’s not .... actually doing anything different to stake him out he really is just a regular at the diner

so, frustrated, noctis gets a little reckless and follows him too closely and prompto immediately tazes him bc while he wasnt onto him before, he’s ONTO HIM NOW

after a brief moment where noctis is like WHY DID U TAZE ME and prompto’s like WHY ARE YOU FOLLOWING ME ARENT U THAT REGULAR FROM THE DINER WHO ALWAYS WEARS SUITS AND KEEPS STARING IS THIS A WEIRD CRUSH THING NOT FUCKIN COOL DUDE and noctis is like HHHHHHHH bc admittedly... he did think prompto was cute and gladio and ignis are like just lookin at each other, after that wild moment, noctis finally gives him the vaguest description of what’s going on and prompto invites them back to his place for Exposition

as it turns out prompto’s quirks are built up from years of his parent raising him to be hyper-vigilant before they died but like, they never straight up told him that they were building up his extremely specific “avoid tails and recognize threats” skillset bc they framed it as like... fun games like “let’s find a different way home!” and “lets lock the doors all the way!!” and stuff so prompto just thinks he’s got a reasonable paranoia, good memory and an eye for detail

another thing they never straight up told him: he’s half alien bro

"i thought everyone had wings they just like... didnt take them out i thought it was a courtesy thing”

“yeah u kno my dentist just thought i had rly aggressive canines and filed them down but it’s been a while and they grew back but i don’t have the money to go back”

idk lads i wish i had more plot and stuff for u that’s all i got i just wanted the satisfaction of imagining prompto having the cool glow in the dark eyes of a cat and him scaring noctis when he’s eating out of the fridge at three am in a dark kitchen

also endgame is prompto joining the agency as noct’s partner in more than one sense of the word since he’s got a weird collection of detective skills, moxie, and a charming personality and helped catch the dudes who were hired to kill him and also,

noctis, crying: i’ll wait for u to graduate the academy prompto, crying: babe
