Wonderful Things That May or May Not Be Wonderful!!! There is a saying among those who own a maritime craft " The best days in a boat owner's life are the day he buys it and the days he sells it". In a sense, this is true especially if you don't use it after you buy it. However, if you have the choice, you should really try to use it. Not just because you shouldn't waste things but because boats are awesome. All kinds of boats. Canoes, kayaks, rowboats, schooners, yachts, sailing ships, barges, dinghies (he he...there I did it for you). They are what allowed civilizations to travel the waters of the world and allowed towns to live off their bounty. They now allow families to spend time trapped together fishing and buddies to do the same thing just with their choice of alcoholic beverage. So yeah, boats = wonderful. Makes sense.

Make a Wise Choice of Kayak for Fishing
Sea fishing kayak flying offers fresh chances to stalk fish in areas that aren't as accessible to larger or motorized vessels. It blends the peace of low-water kayaking with the excitement of hauling in a large fish. You may be covert as you glide overseas to your favorite fishing place and sneak up on fish without spooking them thanks to traditional boats' thinner profiles and improved mobility.
You'll need to make a lot of choices while looking for a fishing kayak because there are so many possibilities available. Here are some crucial deciding factors to help you limit your options when you shop:
Tumblr media
Choose a sit-on-top, inflatable, or conventional sit-in kayak based on your preferences. Inflatable kayaks are excellent for anyone with little storage space while sit-on-top kayaks are the simplest to get into and out of.
Decide whether you want to cycle or paddle. Paddling may be your preferred method of exercise and simplicity, or you may prefer the benefits of foot pedaling so your hands are free for fishing. What kind of load are you carrying? You should consider the boat's weight capacity. Take into account both your own weight and the load you want to carry. Do you prefer having lots of resources at your disposal or are you a minimalist?
Do you want to stand and fish? Here, stability is crucial. Wider hulls are often more stable, allowing you to stand and throw farther and with greater assurance; the trade-off is that the boat may be slower. How are you going to move the kayak from the sea fishing kayak manufacturer? How simple is it to lift and manage the kayak? Can you carry it by yourself to the fishing spot? Can you fit it on top of your vehicle or in the bed of your truck, or will you need a trailer to move it?
Air-filled kayaks
Inflatable kayaks are a great choice for anyone with limited storage space because of how compact they are. If your kayak doesn't come with a pump, make sure you get a nice one.
Once inflated, they are portable and light.
You might need to pay attention to where you launch and land because they aren't as stiff.
As a result of their deflation, they may be simpler to carry.
You might be able to stand up in certain high-quality models, but others might not be solid enough.
Tumblr media
Certain inflatables from sea fishing kayak supplier could not paddle as quickly or effectively as conventional hard shells.

People with Pisces 4h, Pisces Moon, Moon 12h , Neptune 4h, and Moon-Neptune aspect
Tumblr media
We talk a lot about Plutions 4h hardships but let’s talk about Neptunian people for a minute because chile yall go through it as well.
From my research of people, I noticed these type of energies has played out for y’all. Growing up with Neptunian influence is a lot like having ocean energy. It may be beautiful, mystical and ethereal but the ocean is deep and holds lots of secrets, it has a lot of life but don’t forget it’s known for its tragic deaths as well.
-growing up near water such as the ocean, lake, river. You may have been the love fishing, kayaking, swimming type of family. Growing up in a town or city that’s known for seafood, sea life or just water activities.
-lack of boundaries from family members, especially mom. I had a client who had a mom who use to read her diary and share it with other family members. she had moon sq Neptune 😫 your mom may not have any boundaries or taught you any. You may struggle with it as an adult
-grew up in a spiritual family, i noticed a lot of people grew up in a hippie style of home😂 or the grew up in a glamour style. Mom wearing hippie clothes or wearing the best fur coat, there’s no in between 😂
-alcoholism/other substance abuse may have happened in the home, mom or a family member drinks a lot. This can also play out as growing up with the finest alcohols brands, an open bar in your home. Substance abuse may run in your family or you have a family member who suffers from it. People you consider family may have this problem as well
-you may come from a creative family. I have a friend who’s a Pisces moon and his mom was a choir teacher and he plays the guitar. Music was a big part of your family home growing up, so much so, you can’t go a day with out it as an adult.
-pictures! You grew up in a home that took lots of photographs, your mom may have lots of photo books with pictures lol
-you may not be close to your family growing up, you guys are a lot like aqua moons when it comes to family. You may feel somewhat isolated or different from them. Good news is that I noticed the further you move away from them, the closer you will be to them. I know that sounds weird but this is what I noticed, by them being far away, no boundaries being broken.
-loneliness and projection, I noticed you all are really popular, like people may love you but at the same time, they don’t really know you. The project what they want you to be in there head, then project some type of disappointment when their bubble is popped! I know how it be for y’all. It’s bull 💩. This comes from lack of boundaries that I was telling you all about earlier. Really get to know yourself, use that alone time for your advantage.
-movies, grew up having movie nights, mom might have a collection of movies on DVDs. Going to the movies with your mom/family may have been a common thing.
-Hidden enemies! some of y’all biggest haters can be your own family members. You thought they were just a cute orca whale like Free Willy but the truth is orcas will F&&$k you up! I’m not saying to not trust your family but please notice the red flags and move accordingly with people. Not all kin is good people.
Do you have these placements and what was a theme you noticed in your life growing up?

Ruben Dias x Reader - Top Spies Part 5/8
Okay, now I'm happy! 😄
Tumblr media
Ruben and Reader are super spies, who have to pretend to be a married couple on vacation as a co-signed mission. A enemies to lovers fic, very sweet and funny!
Enjoy!
Things weren't awkward between you and Ruben since your little rumble in the sand, they were just different.
"So what are your plans for today?" You asked. Ruben was just returning from his morning jog, shirtless and dripping in sweat. You sat on the villas front balchony, enjoying a light breakfast.
"Not much, you?"
"Alejandro has invited us to play golf with him and his family this afternoon."
Ironically you and Ruben had settled in quite well with Alejandro and his family. They would often insist that you join them for a day on their yacht or a day kayaking in the sea. Ruben would usually try and come up with excuses why you shouldn't go, but Alejandro and his family kept insisting.
"What did you say?" Ruben asked.
"Well I said that you weren't much of a golfer and that it would probably be just me."
"Bet Alejandro liked that."
"What's that supposed to mean?" You frowned.
"The guy is clearly into you Y/N. He's just waiting for me to let you out of my sight."
"And will you?"
The scent of man invaded your nostrils as Ruben stepped up to you. For a moment you thought he was going to bend down and kiss you, however he paused as his lips hovered above yours.
"Never."
He snatched a grape from your plate. You admired the way his back muscles moved as he headed inside to shower. A part of you wanted to drop your skirt and join him. A very dominant part of you imagine what it would be like to fuck Ruben. Would he be gentle or rough? Handsy or tough?
Your guess was a bit of both.
********************************************
It was very obvious that Ruben wasn't much of a golfer, that he had never even held a club before. He was fine leaving you to it. Alejandro's nephew was eager to show him his collection of torphies instead.
"That's alot of golfballs." You acknowledged.
Arriving at Alejandro's golf course there were several piles of them overflowing the ranch.
"I'm thinking of expanding the resort with four more courses across the island, all with a view of the coast." He said.
"And for that you need more golfballs, makes sense." You nodded. "You should ad some more obstacles to the course, like a pond."
"No. Sand is fine. With water it gets too complicated with the golfballs."
You understood what he meant. It really was a hassle fishing golfballs out of the water, most of them got lost forever.
"Have you ever played golf professionally?" Alejandro asked. He was observing the way you picked your next golfclub, carefully weighing it in your hand, giving it a light swing.
"I stopped in the junior categories due to lack of funding from my parents."
"A shame. I would have stepped up as a sponsor if I knew you back then."
"Well that's very kind of you to say."
You learned that Alejandro supported alot of youth golfers in Portugal, including his nephew. You truly shared the passion for the sport, him a bit more since he was willing to invest in many young players careers.
"If I may ask, what was your maiden name before you got married?"
"It's was....."
You almost said it. You almost blew your cover revealing your real name.
Alejandro noticed your hesitation, tilting his head in curiosity. "I'm sorry for asking so many question but it feels like I should know who you are based on your merits. I've been on the board for the junior championships for over fiftheen years."
"No need to apologize. My junior career isn't somthing I'm really proud of. It basically eneded before it started."
"I see. And your maiden name was....?"
"Y/N!"
Thank god for Ruben. He interrupted you and Alejandro just in time.
"Yes?" You asked since he looked to have seen a ghost.
"Our reservations.... "
"Our what?"
He looked over your shoulders where Alejandro stood and that's when you realized that somthing was definitely up.
"Right, our reservations." You played along.
"You have reservations?" Alejandro questioned.
"Yes, to the spa." Ruben said.
"I'm sorry." You apologized. "I totally forgot about it."
Alejandro shook his head. "It's no worries. I can have Beatrice rearrange the reservations for tomorrow."
"That's very kind of you." Ruben said, already dragging you along with him. "But my wife and I need to relax today."
You left the golf course but did not stop at the spa nor the villa. Ruben drove you all the way to the marina before you finally asked him. "Whatta fuck?"
"There is a submarine." He said, a bit exhilarated about the fact.
"A what?"
"Alejandro's nephew told me that his uncle has a very big boat, like a whale. A whale that can dive underwater."
"What should we do?"
"Report back to Captain. But by then it might be too late. If the Drugs are here on the island I'm sure it's getting ready to get devided and split up in more portable amounts."
"I don't know Ruben, sounds like you want us to make the bust ourselves. I don't think that's such a good idea."
He turned to look at you, seeing the concern in your eyes.
"We won't do anything to jepordize the mission let's just assess the situation and gather evidence."
There was somthing in his eyes. He really wanted to do this.
"Fine, let's find this submarine of yours."
It was later in the evening when you choose to search the bay for a 100 meter submarine, lurking in the calm waters, however with no luck of finding it.
"They can't hide it underwater, another ship might run into it." Ruben said. "But what place could be big enough to hold a submarine, let alone hide it from an island full of tourists?"
"The caves at the golden cliffs!" You exclaimed. It's where Alejandro's family had taken you kayaking a couple of days ago. You never entered the dark caves with the kayaks, but surley they appered large enough to hide a submarine.
"Fuck Y/N, what would I do without you?"
You and Ruben traced the submarine to a hidden cove on the coast of the island, where it was anchored deep in the water.
"I can't believe it." You laughed. Ruben was right all along.
"We'll have to report back to the agency once we get our hands on the evidence. Call captain Harlow and tell him to prepare the team to demand a warrant for the arrest of Alejandro Martinez."
"Ruben your seriously not thinking about going down there are you?"
He looked eager to investigate further.
"Y/N, entering the ship is the only way I'll get a hold of the evidence that we need. Trust me, I won't be long."
Trust wasn't the problem, you thought.
Ruben took notice of this too, how your steps altered, your expression indecisive. All because you didn't want him to enter the ship and leave you behind.
"Hey." Ruben closed the gap between you, letting his hand stroke your cheek.
"Ruben I don't want you going down there."
"I know. " He nodded. "But I have to, it's our chance to finally put this guy behind bars."
"I know but..."
"You won't lose me Y/N. We're partners, remember?"
You smiled as his thumb swiped across your bottom lip. Either it was you who tilted your head up to kiss him or the other way around, him tilting down to kiss you. Nonetheless, you were kissing, a real kiss, soft and sweet.
You lips parted with the echoing sound of the cave, Ruben's forhead knocking against yours.
"Wait for me here."
You nodded. "Okay."
As you made your way closer to the submarine, you suddenly heard the sound of footsteps behind. You and Ruben turned to see the shadow of a burly man, sneaking up on you.
"You're not supposed to be here!" The man growled, pulling out a gun.
He stepped into a spring of light, revealing his face. It was Andrés, Andrés Fierro.
"Alejandro won't be happy to know that you're here."
You and Ruben acted quickly, drawing your own weapons and taking cover behind a nearby boulder. You exchanged a quick glance, and then Ruben nodded.
"Ready?" he whispered.
You nodded, heart pounding in her chest. "Ready."
The battle was intense, with bullets flying through the air followed by the loud echoes exploding in the distance. You and Ruben had Andrés Fierro cornered. But as you made your way closer to the submarine, you suddenly felt a sharp pain in your shoulder.
"Ruben..."
You crumbled to the ground seeing the wound from the stray bullet.
Ruben saw the look of shock on your face and rushed to your side, pulling you behind a nearby boulder.
"Y/N, no!" he shouted, his voice filled with panic. "You've been hit!"
"Don't let him get away!" You said through gritted teeth. "He'll blow our covers."
Ruben looked conflicted, but he knew there was only one right thing to do.
"I'll be okay," you whispered, your voice barely above a whisper. "Just finish the mission."
Ruben nodded, his eyes filled with determination. He knew that he had to get to the submarine. With a fierce cry, he charged forward. You heard two gunshots and the crumbling shouts of a man. The cave fell silent, however you were never in doubt, Ruben had killed Andrés Fierro.

Headcanons for Cabin 3 bc I'm becoming obsessed again
- Children of Poseidon are rather composed and cool-headed, it's pretty hard to anger them. But when they DO get mad, it's a wild ride
- Just like the sea, they don't like to be restricted and controlled.
- They hate when other campers ask them to find lost items during kayaking. Why does everybody think they have location of everything underwater?
- Gossiping with pegasi
- Those who hold a rare ability to cause small earthquakes often use it during combat for dramatic effect
- Mind you, Cabin 3 is next to the lake. These people would sigh and roll in their beds whole night listening to the shitty fish talk
- Yea, they would probably use earplugs during mating season
- Because of how cool-headed they are they end up making pretty good strategists
- Most of them probably do not eat seafood
- Unconventional thinkers
- And pranksters. I can picture them hiding underwater, then suddenly screaming and shaking kayaks
-Of course, this is accompanied by even more screaming from the campers

Wild Kratts Episode Ideas
We made it another year. 2024, specifically, January 3rd, 2024, marks the 13th anniversary of Wild Kratts, which first aired in 2011 with Mom of a Croc. I remember first watching the bros as a toddler with Zoboomafoo, and I have grown up with Wild Kratts, from kindergarten to college. I owe the bros for opening my eyes to how amazing the creature world is. To celebrate, I wanted to share some episode ideas I came up with:
Fish Hacking 101: Chris and Martin desire to master the hunting techniques of the mysterious tentacled snake. But to Gourmand, the obscure serpent is just another ingredient for his latest dish.
Yetis and Leopards: To keep the bros away while they plan a surprise party, Aviva sends the bros looking for snow leopards. However, they find the mysterious cats much quicker than expected, forcing Aviva to keep the bros away from the Tortuga by baiting them with a Yeti robot she built, but snow leopards are great hunters.
Upriver With a Paddlefish: During Tortuga maintenance day, Koki goes kayaking, when she is hit by a jumping sturgeon. Injured and with her creature pod busted, the brothers find an unlikely hope in another strange looking fish.
Inferno the Fire Hawk: While visiting Australia, the crew observe a black kite intentionally setting fires. Paisley learns of this too, and hires Zach to mind control the birds into obeying her.
Dot and Stripe's Big Day: The crew have successfully rehabilitated a pair of orphaned Malayan tapir twins. But the spots the crew have chosen to release the siblings in have each been claimed by older, tougher tapirs. Aviva gives the bros Tapir powers so they can traverse the jungle and find new, suitable territory for the twins.
Ice Day for Salamanders: In the most ambitious experiment yet, the brothers freeze themselves alive in Siberian Salamander Powers for a day. However, Paisley abducts the brothers, intending to auction them off to the other villains to finance her schemes.
The Perfect Mudskipper Name: Martin's attempt to ride a mudskipper lead to him loosing his suit, and a mudskipper merging with it, like Seven did. The now humanoid fish kicks the gang out of the Tortuga, and all efforts to get him out of the ship and the suit fail. The brothers must learn to fight like a mudskipper to win their ship back, and get the fish back to normal.
Parrotfish Beach: While at the beach, Martin chances across a parrotfish. Not having seen one of the vibrant fish since they saved some from Zach and Donita, the team get to work to make a new suit. Meanwhile, Paisley has decided to create her newest road right through the reef, using a monstrosity of a machine she calls, "The Colossus of Roads".
Nudibranch Bingo: After finding a Blue Dragon Sea Slug, the brothers head to the Philippines in a game to see who can find the most species of sea slugs. Unbeknownst to them, Donita has hacked their cameras, so she can find and collect the colorful invertebrates to use in her newest designs, having grown bored of regular gems and jewels.
Hagfish Day: After finding out hagfish have a day dedicated to them, yet barely anybody knows about them, the brothers take the Pulponaut to the bottom of the sea to look for the elusive slime eels.
Jimmy and the Silverback: While his friends go off with a Gorilla troop, Jimmy laments his fear getting in the way of his desire to explore. Fortunately for him, another troop comes to the Tortuga. Unfortunately, the bros, Aviva, Koki, and the first troop, get in trouble, and Jimmy must step up to save his friends, and the gorilla.s
What Big Teeth You Have: While diving, the brothers chance upon a den of Wolf Eels and their eggs. Soon though, the bros must take up the duty to defend the nest after the parents are injured. While their friends take care of the expecting parents, Chris and Martin must keep the eggs safe. But competition is fierce. Octopus and other Wolf Eels want the den, and the brothers must keep them away.
Do the Velvet Worm: The brothers are on a long overdue adventure to find the rare and mysterious velvet worm, who thrive in wet and warm environments. But Paisley's newest scheme threatens to destroy the home of the worms, and all the other creatures there.
Keeping up with the Hornbills: Chris and Martin seal themselves in with an expecting mother Hornbill so that they can document the process, but when Donita teams up with Paisley to collect animals from the forest she is destroying, the tree the bros are in gets tossed into the river.
Condor Crash Course: A malfunction of the Tortuga's new autopilot system causes the ship to crash at the end of the Andes Mountains, and the crew are stuck at the other end. Martin thinks they could traverse the mountains with condor powers, but the trick is to find the birds first.
Quetzals of Then and Now: Aviva tells her friends the story of how her grandmother obtained the feathers of the Corcovado family birdie in a massive creature adventure.
Four Kratts and Some Saigas: The brothers' sisters come to visit, but creature adventuring doesn't stop for family reunions. The crew get a call of a herd of Saiga suffering from a bacteria infection.
Vampire Deer: The brothers learn about Chinese Water Deer, which have fangs in lieu of antlers. But the investigation into these weird deer is interrupted by Donita, who wants to use the deer as material for her new line of formal wear: Donita's Deer-est.
24 Hours in Lake Baikal: From freshwater seals to special sponges, and even weird natural formations, the record-holding Lake Baikal has caught the brothers' interest. It has also caught the interest of Gourmand and Paisley, who team up to make sure the brothers don't interfere.
Queen of the Meerkats: Struck by how fierce meerkats are, Zach captures the head female and several others to use in his new line of "Zach-Tion Figure" toys. Chris and Martin must save the meerkats while their friends keep what's rest of the fragile hierarchy from falling apart.
Olm's World: The brothers realized they never got around to making Olm powers. They return to Europe to find the mysterious "human-fish", so they can figure out the secrets of the unique salamander, such as how it can live for so long despite being blind.
Jamming With Moths: While building more bat boxes for their friend Bite-Size, Chris realizes the Little-Brown Bat, and all the other bats, are struggling to catch moths. The team is spurred by curiosity to determine whether the echolocation of a bat is truly a fool proof adaptation.
Be the Bee Eater: Bee Eaters are disappearing, and Zach is behind it. He plans to mind control the birds and sell them around the world as insect catchers.
Jumping Spider Jubilee: The crew split up to find the most unique species of jumping spiders. They will meet hunters, dancers, and even one little spider who lives up very high.
Night with a Not-Lizard: Impatient to study tuataras, a miniaturized Chris injures his leg, and he must use his skills, and the powers of the Tuatara, to avoid rats and other hungry predators to get back to the Tortuga.

Picking the Right Fishing Kayak Is Essential

The lake was as smooth as glass when you opened your curtains the next morning. A perfect morning to take out one of the kayaks. Your eyes shifted to the dock, and you found yourself smiling a little to see Orm standing there. You pulled the curtains closed again and slid into one of your bathing suits, pulling a jumpsuit cover-up over top. You applied some sunscreen and opened the curtains again before heading down to the dock.
Grabbing one of the yellow single-seater kayaks laying on the front lawn, you slung it onto your shoulder and turned to head to the water.
“Good morning.” He greeted you, at your side. You jumped a little, startled, but managed not to drop the kayak.
“Good morning! The water is so calm, I was thinking of going kayaking. Did you want to join me?”
He eyed the plastic boat, and the way you were shifting on your feet a little as the weight of it seemed to increase the longer you held it, with notable skepticism. He reached out and took it from you easily.
“I might just swim along side?” He carried it down to the dock for you.
“Right, of course. Thank you!” You followed quickly, realizing he was wearing the black swim trunks you had bought for him. He seemed very in tune with what human clothing was worn when and where…maybe he enjoyed fashion?
You stepped into the boathouse and grabbed a lifejacket and paddle stored in the simple building before joining him on the dock. Pulling on the lifejacket, you crouched down to place the kayak into the water, using the paddle to slide into the seat. You stretched your legs forward into the footwell and pushed off from the dock. You looked back to see him sliding off the long sleeve shirt, tossing it onto a lounge chair, and gracefully diving off the end of the dock in front of you.
Shaking your head, to clear the image of his well-defined torso from your mind and focus on the task at hand, you began to paddle towards where he surfaced. He looked up to you as you paddled past, leaving a respectful distance to avoid hitting him, and you could almost swear he had a tiny smile on his lips. You were definitely smiling as your kayak glided through the water smoothly. All you could see of him was a gentle wake on the surface as he explored the bottom of the lake. He popped up every so often to keep an eye on you but otherwise seemed happy to exist nearby without direct interaction.
After about fifteen minutes, you turned your kayak into a bay and he suddenly surfaced beside you, holding a desperately squirming fish.
“Do you eat this kind?”
You looked it over and nodded. “Yes, that’s a walleye or pickerel. White fish, nice flavour. That one is unfortunately too small though, you have catch a bigger one if you want to eat it.”
“Yes, of course. Population health.” He nodded before diving again.
Glancing around to be sure you would not hit him, you dipped your paddle back into the water to turn around towards home. The sun was warm, and the lack of breeze was making the idea of a swim very, very tempting. You paddled back to the dock, startling as a very large walleye was slapped onto the end of the dock beside you.
When you turned to look back at it, you saw him tying up the end of your kayak before shifting to the bow to do the same there.
“Thank you.” You smiled and climbed out of the kayak…your dismount was a lot less graceful, but you made it out without falling. You set the lifejacket on one of the chairs before sliding the straps of your coverup off your shoulders. The fabric pooled on the dock, and you stepped out of it, laying it across the chair. You grabbed one of the floatation noodles from the cabana built on the solid section of the dock.
You walked to the end of the dock to see him treading water there easily. Tossing your noodle into the water, you followed with a simple jump. The water was cool and refreshing. You kicked back to the surface, smoothing your hair off your face before reaching for the noodle, sitting on it like a swing.
“I see you’ve caught yourself some breakfast?”
He nodded. “Though there is also a surprising amount of garbage at the bottom of this lake…”
You nodded sadly. “Unfortunately, my ancestors just wanted the things that were no longer needed, or nor longer working, out of their sight. Putting it in the lake made it disappear. There was no concept that it just sits down there…I know the cottagers now try and collect what they can but it’s pretty deep out there. Well, deep for a lake.” You added at his slight smirk, laughing.
“Where does the garbage go now?” He asked in reply.
“We pack it up and take it to the landfill.” You noted his disapproving look. “I agree…it’s why we try not to make much garbage.”
You passed the rest of the swim enjoying the water in your respective ways. He disappeared from time to time while you floated happily on the surface. Eventually you started to get hungry and swam over to the ladder, climbing out. You heard him land on the dock as you were wrapping yourself in your towel and the two of you headed up, him with his fish in hand.
You changed into dry clothes before making your way into the kitchen. He was already there, carefully filleting the fish with one of the knives he found in the knife block. He was focused, his movements precise and elegant as he separated scales from the tender flesh of the fish. His torso was still bare, wearing only the swim trunks as he worked. You forced yourself to look at his expanse of skin from a medical perspective. It was remarkable – he was essentially healed.
Only a few smudges remained where bruising had painted his skin the day before, and the cuts and scrapes had disappeared to leave only smooth flesh instead. You tensed as he had stopped cutting and you looked up to see he was looking at you. You looked away quickly, embarrassed to have been caught in the act.
“You are very talented with a knife.” You commented lamely stepping further into the kitchen. “Did you want anything else with your fish?”
“I would like some crispy bread, and the drink made with warm water.”
“Toast and tea it is!” You made yourself a couple of slices of bacon, making an extra one for him to sample, and sliced a tomato to make bacon and tomato sandwiches for yourself. You made a generous pot of tea and put out the milk and sugar on the table. He sat down with a plate of finely sliced fish that looked like essentially sashimi to you. As you ate your respective breakfasts, he nodded to you.
“This is a very good fish, I appreciate your recommendation.”
He also tried the bacon, and admitted it was a taste he would enjoy again. After you finished eating, you gathered the dishes and took them to the counter.
“Is it customary to clean everything so promptly after eating?” He asked, following you.
“Out here I do, it keeps the bears away. They are attracted to the smell of food, so I keep the kitchen pretty clean out here to avoid unwanted visitors.”
“I am familiar with the animal, I was not aware of them as something to avoid?”
“Because of their size, they can easily kill a human with a single swipe of their paw. They are considered a dangerous animal, and if they become reliant on human food, or refuse to leave the cottage area, they are called a ‘problem bear’ and usually that means they are killed to protect the people. Cleaning up is an easy thing to do try and avoid that.”
He started the hot water running in the sink and looked to the leftover parts of fish.
“We’ll put those in the freezer, and I will take them to the landfill at the end of my trip.” You grabbed a shopping bag and slid the fragrant garbage into it, setting it in the freezer out of sight and scent of wildlife.
The drain tray was already half full of dishes when you turned back, and you grabbed the tea towel to dry and put them away. Once he’d finished his role in the dishwashing, he went out to sit on the veranda quietly. After putting the last clean dish away, you joined him. As you picked up your book, he asked,
“What do you read about?”
“All sorts of topics, really…sometimes fiction, sometimes non-fiction. This is what is referred to as a beach read…something that doesn’t require a lot of thought, perfect to read on vacation.” You replied.
“I am interested in reading a surface book. Do you have any others?”
“Follow me.” You led him to the bookshelf in the hallway and showed him the variety of options. “History, romance, action, non-fiction…”
You watched as he pulled a book off the shelf detailing the sinking of the Lusitania in 1915.
“That one is very interesting.” You nodded encouragingly and the two of you settled in for an evening of reading.
Over the following days, the two of you settled into a semblance of a rhythm. Spending as much time as possible on the water, working together on cooking and cleaning. There had been no contact from Arthur, no indication of how long Orm would be staying with you. Slowly, Orm began asking questions. They started with the contents of the book he had finished in roughly a day.
He wanted to know more about World War I, what was happening on the surface during the events of the sinking. You pulled out your laptop and set him up with reliable sources to delve into anything and everything that he was curious about. After that, there was never a struggle to find a topic of conversation between the two of you. Everything he read, he also wanted to know your perspective. You supposed he had never had the opportunity to learn about the surface from a human before. He remained skeptical and well, it reminded you a little of a general learning all he could about the enemy, which was slightly unnerving.
As you were sitting on the veranda one evening, reading your respective books, he seemed distracted by the increase in boat traffic on the lake. You frowned.
“A lot of people come up on the weekends, unfortunately it won’t be as quiet as it has been. Most of them will leave in a few days.”
“Hn.” The noise of annoyance was subtle but clear. It was not a turn of events he appreciated.
As the days passed, in fact, he became increasingly irritable. The traffic from water skiers, tubers, and jet skis meant you did not go kayaking. The partying of your rowdy neighbours well into the night made him clench his jaw and set down his book, unable to read in the evenings. The breaking point came on Sunday night, as he sat beside you simmering with quiet rage instead of reading. A loud boom broke across the water, instantly bringing him to his feet.
You looked up, startled but then smiled as a shower of red sparks broke across the sky. “Someone has brought fireworks with them it seems.” You stood as well. “Did you want to come down to the dock with me to watch them?”
His fists clenched as another boom sounded and he shook his head coldly. The rage emanated from him in waves of malice, and you swallowed.
“I will be outside.” You said quietly and left him to his anger, grabbing some bug spray and heading down to the end of the dock to take in the full thirty minutes display of a riot of colours. They must have spent a fair bit to have such an extensive show. You glanced back to the cottage from time to time and could see him silhouetted on the veranda. At least he’d sat down at some point.
You sighed and set your chin on your knee…wondering if there was anything you could do to make this less intolerable for him.

NATURE & SHIPWRECKS (unit #5 - freestyle)
Hello friends,
We are back again this week with the most exciting prompt yet: no prompt! I am taking this opportunity to talk about my biggest childhood interest… SHIPWRECKS!
You might be wondering how this relates to nature at all but deep-sea shipwrecks are biodiversity hubs. I have always been interested in shipwrecks because I am both terrified and in awe of them. My main fascination is with how such an inorganic and visually man-made object is completely emersed by aquatic life and fits so well in an ecosystem it was never intended to be in.

Shipwrecks are considered “islands of biodiversity” because they offer a structure for an incredibly wide variety of species to inhabit, which creates pockets of very high biodiversity, acting as artificial reefs (Hamdan et al., 2021). Imagine a sandy sea floor with not much going on besides some small rocks and vegetation, now put a huge stationary shipwreck there, and eventually, many species will call this new isolated habitat their new home. Many shipwrecks are dripping with so many species that you cannot even see bare metal anymore.
It is clear from photos that there are lots of different fish, vegetation, and corals that inhabit old shipwrecks, but we are missing a very important aspect of shipwreck ecosystems: the micro-organism colonies! In our defense, we can't see them but they make up a huge portion of biodiversity. Microorganisms establish and preserve shipwrecks as artificial reefs, allowing other species to thrive in/on shipwrecks. It is amazing how much power the tiny species hold and how influential they are to full ecosystems. (Hamdan et al., 2021)

I have never had the opportunity to visit a shipwreck other than kayaking over top of a boiler. I love watching videos of people diving to explore shipwrecks, although I can't imagine ever doing it myself. I am incredibly curious to hear if anyone has done this? I would absolutely love to hear your experiences! We (Ontario locals) live in the perfect place to go shipwreck diving because the Great Lakes have cold water and low salinity which are fanatics conditions for the preservation of shipwrecks. The Great Lakes are regarded as one of the best shipwreck diving spots in the world. (Harrington, 2019)
I have always found shipwrecks interesting because of the duality that the vessel wasn't strong enough to complete its voyage but it is strong enough to be preserved underwater for (possibly) hundreds of years, sometimes in near-perfect condition. However, the shipwrecks of the Great Lakes are in trouble!! Invasive species of the Great Lakes like zebra mussels (Dreissena polymorpha) and quagga mussels (Dreissena rostriformis bugensis) are threatening our beautifully preserved nuggets of history. These filter feeders can cause damage through heavy weight and even corrosion of some metals, if enough pile up. Additionally, they release carbon dioxide which can severely alter water quality and the conditions that help preserve shipwrecks. It is insane that these huge structures that can last up to thousands of years can be threatened by something as small and seemingly passive as mussels. (Harrington, 2019)
Thanks for reading, hopefully you see shipwrecks from a slightly different perspective! Who knew shipwrecks were so intertwined with nature (I did because I am a nerd who loves shipwrecks)!
