Watching white tumblr users interact with black things is funny because they will always misapprehend things and just generally be reductivist.

So I’m seeing a lot of people going “haha Kendrick got awards for being a hater,” “Drake lost so bad lol.”

And I’m just massaging my temples at the irony of nonblack people en masse misunderstanding a song called “They not like us.”

Kendrick has a whole verse in the song breaking down the commodification of blackness and the history of colonization apropos to Black Americans. That’s what the whole Drake beef was about btw. It was about Drake’s pattern of ripping off black culture just to peddle it to the uncaring masses and make millions off of it, while the smaller artists he steals from get no recognition (money). Drake was getting called the rap goat by nonblack people, he was getting looked at as the greatest in a tradition he has no roots in. Kendrick’s distaste for Drake was years in the making. FdSignifier has some great vids from like 2020 about Drake’s rise in the rap world. There’s also Pusha T’s diss from 2018 called “The story of Adidon.” My point is, Drake is a culture vulture and the Drake v. Kdot beef was about reclaiming what Drake (and other culture vultures) stole.

Drake is also problematic for other reasons, e.g. sexually exploiting women, allegedly participating in sex trafficking, and so on.

It does a disservice to Kdot’s message to reduce this beef to an apolitical 1v1. It was never a 1v1, it was always political, it was always about the broader culture, it was always a culture war, etc.

You Love Like It’s Muscle Memory

You’re the kind of person who always notices the little things. Who remembers birthdays without checking a calendar. Who listens, even when no one else is paying attention. Your love is quiet. Not showcase , sho off or performative types. Not loud. But deepsteady like a heartbeat.

You've spent years pouring into people who barely noticed how much they were receiving. You’ve given rides , drop pick up. Covered bills. Paid the bills at restaurant ,were there during 12 am break down .Sent long messages when someone was hurting. Held space for stories that no one else stayed long enough to hear.

But somewhere along the line, that giving started to wear on you. Not because you wanted something back. Just because it hurt when nothing came. You started asking yourself questions you never thought you would. Like, “If I stopped showing up, would anyone notice?”

And now? Now you’re tired in a way that sleep doesn’t fix.And it feels heavy to exist (Why do I always rhyme when it vomes to sad emotions )

You’re not broken. You’re just more cautious now. You don’t rush to help the way you used to. You take longer to open up. You keep parts of yourself quietnot because you’re hiding, but because you’ve learned not everyone deserves the full version of you.

You’ve stopped begging to be seen. You’ve stopped proving your worth. You’ve stopped waiting for someone to finally say, “I choose you.” Because you’ve realized something no one ever told you:

You were never supposed to earn love by making yourself useful.

“I wish I was special...” That line still stings, because for a long time, you felt disposable. But not anymore. Now you know that you are the kind of person who brings warmth just by being in the room. And if someone can’t see that? That’s their loss,not your flaw!

You’re not a phase. You’re not a backup. You’re not a filler chapter in someone else’s story.

You’re the real thing. And you’re finally seeing that for yourself.

But now, you sit in your own company like it's a home you’re slowly redecorating. You’re not rushing out the door anymore, trying to fix everything. You’re letting things sit. Letting yourself breathe.

You’ve stopped texting first just to feel wanted. You’ve stopped explaining yourself to people who only listen to reply. You’ve let go of friendships that only survived because you were the one watering them.

It still hurts sometimes. But it's a clean hurt now not the messy kind that keeps you stuck. You’re making peace with things you can’t change. You’re walking away from stories that don’t have to be finished to be over.

“I still wanna try, still believe in good days.” That line hits different now. Because hope isn’t loud in your life right now,but it’s there. It lives in small things, clean sheets, long walks, sunlight through the blinds. It lives in the way you talk to yourself with a little more kindness than you used to.

You’re not in a rush to heal anymore. You’re letting time do its job. Letting your wounds close naturally.

You’re Done Swallowing Your Anger

You’ve always been the one who forgave first. Who tried to “take the high road.” Who bit your tongue until it bled. You kept the peace even when it tore you apart inside.

But not anymore!

Now you’re the one who walks away. Who doesn’t explain. Who deletes the message instead of sending it. Not because you’re cold but because you’re finally choosing yourself.
